Today, they're finally beginning to play, explore, and discover what it means to feel safe. But just a few weeks ago, Roro, Livvy, Joey, Eli, Issac, and Maddie, lovingly dubbed The McGhee 6 by Sweet Onion Kitten Club, were simply trying to survive. The six kittens came from a home with a large cat colony where they had little to no human contact. Terrified, painfully sick, and victims of heartbreaking neglect, they arrived in rescue completely feral and in desperate need of help. What happened to their eyes was entirely preventable. They developed severe upper respiratory infections, essentially a "kitty cold," that caused thick discharge to seal their eyes shut. When a kitten's eyes can't drain, pressure builds as infection spreads, causing the eyes to swell until they rupture. All these babies needed was someone to care enough to gently clean their faces and keep their eyes draining while they recovered from their colds. Instead, they suffered in silence until the damage became irreversible. The damage has affected each kitten differently. Sweet Maddie appears to be completely blind. The others seem to be able to see at least shadows, offering hope that they still have some vision despite everything they've endured. Issac's eyes remain cloudy but are otherwise looking healthy, while Joey is still being closely monitored as his veterinary team watches to see how his eyes continue to heal. After just 10 days of antibiotics, gentle face washes, regular meals, clean bedding, and countless prayers, the transformation began. Their appetites returned, the infections started responding to treatment, and tiny bursts of playful energy began appearing on the kitten cam. For the first time, each kitten's unique personality started to shine through as they learned that people could be trusted. It's been about three weeks since they were rescued, and they've made incredible progress. The latest update has brought a glimmer of hope. Thanks to the dedicated care they've received, their eyes are looking better than expected, and their veterinary team has decided to hold off on surgery for now. While this is wonderful news, they're not out of the woods yet. The damage to their eyes is still significant, and surgery may still become necessary if their condition changes. For now, the McGhee 6 will continue receiving the specialized veterinary care, medications, and close monitoring they need as their team works to give them the very best chance of healing. Their rescue has already poured countless hours, endless compassion, and significant medical care into saving these little lives. They transformed six frightened, suffering kittens into babies who are finally learning to play, explore, and trust. Every day, the kitten cam captures little bursts of zoomies and curiosity that simply didn't exist when they first arrived. Those precious moments are proof that these babies are finally beginning to feel like kittens. Even though surgery has been postponed, their medical journey is far from over. Ongoing veterinary visits, medications, and specialized care continue to add up, and the possibility of future surgeries still remains. Left abandoned on the side of a highway with nothing but a blanket is how a good Samaritan discovered Nimby. That person saw Nimby was injured and needed emergency care. So they took him to the nearest animal hospital and called the Legacy Humane Society. Poor Nimby had a fractured femur. He was not microchipped, did not have a collar with tags, and no one claimed him. The Legacy Humane Society is raising money for Nimby's urgently needed surgery to repair his fractured leg. Though Nimby looks at you with those sad eyes, he's expected to make a full recovery and have much happier days ahead! "Despite his injury, Nimby is a super smart boy and very laid back," Molly B., with the nonprofit group, tells Waggle. "His story didn't start well, but Legacy Humane Society is trying its best to give him his best shot and a second chance." We adopted Meka when she was 8 weeks old. She is so sweet and adorable, She loves to cuddle and brings much joy to my husband and I and also to our grandchildren She just had three kittens that are 4 weeks old She is such a good mother. But after her accident she is not able to to care for her kittens and it breaks our hearts.. We love her so much and are trying to do everything to help her I'll never forget the day of the accident, we were deep frying some fish and chip in our deep fryer. when sh all of a sudden jumped on the counter to get on top of the refrigerator and landed in the deep fryer. She took off running and crying. When we finally was able to get a hold of her place her in some cool water and rush her to her vet. She was given some pain medication to help her. Meka loves to play and snuggle with my husband and I. She is such a good mama to her babies. She loves to play outside and chase lizards. She loves to play when we are making our bed. She is such a character. We love her and her babies so much. My husband was hospitalized about a month ago for Cellulitus in his leg and could not walk for about a month and unable to work, which has really put us in a financial stressful situation. Hospitalization for Meka is so expensive which we can't afford at this time.

I have been blessed with Gus in my life since he was a puppy. At first I didn't want him when I heard what breed the parents were, a English bulldog and German Shepard. I worried the outcome. He turned out a pig dog (snorts) and I absolutely love him. He's now 10 years old and it's been the best ten years. Gus was minding his own while going potty in his yard. Our neighbors old fence gave way when their dog busted through. The neighbor dog attacked my Gus causing severe injuries. He went to olympia pet emergency and was treated for his wound. He started to decline fast. So I brought him back to olympia pet emergency, they closely monitored him but needed to transfer him to summit referral vet clinic Gus is the best dog you could ask for. He loves his giant tennis balls from tractor supply. He loves to play with the kids which means barking at them. He knows he can easily beg for his rabbit stocks by sitting near them and gives the cutest sad face ever. He has never bit a person and loves delivery drives (treats he's not suppose to have). My house would be so quiet without his deep pig snoring My house hold only has one income currently. With a new mortgage. Normally there would be two incomes. I didn't expect his vet bills to reach into the thousands. Oly emergency was around 6k and now at summit, the first bill was 6800 and now they want an additional 8k.

Mila

Mila was a healthy and happy dog until 10 days ago when she started showing stomach problems with diarrhea and vomiting. We took her to the hospital to check what was going wrong, thinking it was just a silly infection, but after 24 hours we needed to hospitalize ina critical her and now she is fighting for her life! More than just a pet, mila is family. She fills our home with laughter, licks away our worries, and reminds us what unconditional love truly means. She is the sweetest, kinder and most caring and kind dog ever. She has a sixth sense for cuddles. No matter how tangled on the couch we become, her fluffy presence is a haven of comfort and she is the sweetest dog. Mila has a severe inflammation in her stomach, Doctor Cohen from MedVet don't know exactly why yet (it could be a severe ulcer, cancer or something else) and she is literally fighting for her life as vets mentioned she is aseptic due to her sever inflammation. She is taking 3 different antibiotics, she is taking medicines to maintain her blood pressure and blood sugar. We have already spent more than $13,000 in a week and we don't know how we will pay for our credit cards in the following month as we don't have the resources to cover it, but Mila is family and we will fight for her and won't let her down!

Rusty came to us after his owner passed away and a family member dumped him at the neighbors and never returned. He had a horrible tumor on his neck that was never addressed and it ruptured so we immediately took him to the vet Rusty is an amazing boy that gets along with everyone. He has the sweetest soul and is curious of new things and new surroundings. He adjusts well and thankfully the tumor does not bother him to bad at this time He loves to play with puppies and other dogs, cats don’t even seem to knock him off his game. We just need to get this tumor out of him. He loves to ride in the car also He has a massive tumor on his neck that ruptured and is leaking. Someone Had sprayed gentcin violet directly in the open wound which has to have burned in that deep of a wound. We are a 501c 3 rescue that relies solely on donations in order to help the animals that come into our care. Without donations these animals would not get the care they do desperately need

I rescued my dog coco 11 years ago. Coco has been my everything! I suffer from depression & Anxiety and coco has made my life a much happier place as she is such a special dog. Coco has never been sick but unfortunately in the last month started building up with fluid around her lungs/ Chest Cavity. Numerous trips to Emergency to get the fluid out so coco can breathe and feel better, Cardiologist/LabCtscans Coco loves to go swinging and hiking and also loves going on long drives and loves her feline friend Taz who is also very sick and she also has a canine friend named Lucy who I rescued 9 years ago. I have exhausted all my funds paying her vet bills and she is now hospitalized. My dog is my best friend and I couldn't imagine life without her. She is a great loving dog who loves everyone, she loves her feline friends and canine friends. She is my life. Please help me and coco anything helps Coco had throatic surgery today and several biopsies were taken and sent to the lab I want to help coco, she is my favorite dog and I hope to get some answers I paid thousands of dollars already for Cardiologist appointments, CT scans Lab work trying to find out what was wrong with coco. Numerous chest taps from her filling up with plurial effusion. Coco is still currently in the hospital

Our beloved dog 6 year old Goldendoodle Archie Bunker has spent his life supporting others. Trained as an EMS PTSD support family member, he has provided comfort, stability, and unconditional love during some of the hardest moments imaginable. Now, he needs our help. Just a week ago, Archie became critically ill very suddenly. Emergency surgery on Monday, May 18, revealed a 9.7 mass. The mass was attached to his spleen. At the same time, he was diagnosed with Evans Syndrome, a serious and life-threatening condition. We emptied our savings to make sure he could have the surgery he needed, and thankfully, he is currently recovering well. But this is only the beginning of a long and uncertain road. Archie will continue to need transfusions, medications, intensive veterinary care. His risk of relapse is extremely high. We are also waiting for biopsy results to determine whether the mass is lymphoma. If confirmed, he will require chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Archie has given so much of himself to help others through trauma, fear, and difficult times. He deserves every chance we can give him now. We got Elliott 4 years ago when he was a month old. He is our everything, our world. He's the sweetest little boy and this situation is just breaking our hearts. We were told that Elliott needs surgery to place a drain for an abscess he had, due to a dog bite. We took him to UrgentVet in RI. They also gave him some medicine for pain/discomfort and an antibiotic. Elliott loves his toys and one of his favorite ways to play is to play Fetch. He loves to watch birds and squirrels and rabbits outside where we live. He enjoys being employed as the world's best biscuit maker. This was so very unexpected. We just don't have this type of money. I'm also taking care of my bedridden mom while my dad is in a facility for the time being. We just want Elliott to be better, he's our everything, our baby.
