Brutally Attacked, Now Fighting to Heal: Help Conejito Recover

Fort Collins,, CO • Amici Cannis

At some point before he was rescued, this gentle dog was brutally attacked by other dogs, leaving him with severe bite wounds across his neck, ear, and the back of his head. No one knows how long he suffered before help arrived, but by the time Amici Cannis found him, his injuries were extensive and incredibly painful. The veterinary team immediately began treating his wounds with an emergency cleaning to remove damaged tissue and reduce the risk of infection. Unfortunately, because the injuries are so deep and located around his face and head, one treatment simply isn't enough. Conejito now requires repeated wound cleanings every two to three days to give his body the best chance to heal. These procedures are essential, but they are also extremely painful. Because of the sensitive location of his injuries, Conejito must be sedated for each treatment so the veterinary team can thoroughly clean the wounds without causing him unnecessary fear or suffering. Sedation allows his doctors to carefully remove unhealthy tissue, monitor for infection, and help healthy tissue grow so his wounds can finally begin to close. Without continued treatment, Conejito faces a much greater risk of serious infection, delayed healing, and prolonged pain. Amici Cannis refused to let this sweet dog suffer alone. They stepped in when he needed them most, giving him safety, medical care, and the chance to recover. Now they need your help to continue providing the lifesaving treatment Conejito depends on. Your donation will help cover the cost of his repeated sedated wound cleanings, ongoing veterinary care, medications, and everything he needs on his road to recovery. Every gift, no matter the size, helps ease Conejito's pain and brings him one step closer to healing. Please donate today and help give Conejito the second chance he so desperately deserves.

From the Streets to a Second Chance: Help Gepeto Walk Without Pain Again

Fort Collins,, CO • Amici Cannis

When rescuers received a call about a small dog limping through the streets, they feared the worst—that he had been struck by a vehicle and urgently needed help. But when Amici Cannis brought him to safety and rushed him to the veterinarian, they discovered an even sadder truth. His injury wasn't new. The sweet little dog they named Gepeto had been living with a chronic hip luxation, a painful dislocation that had likely gone untreated for a very long time. Every step he took was a reminder of the pain he had been forced to endure while surviving on the streets alone. Despite everything he has been through, Gepeto remains gentle, trusting, and hopeful. Now, for the first time, he has a chance to leave that pain behind. His veterinary team has recommended a Femoral Head and Neck Ostectomy (FHO), a specialized orthopedic surgery that will remove the source of his chronic pain and allow him to regain comfortable mobility. The goal is simple but life-changing: to help Gepeto walk, run, and enjoy life without the constant discomfort he has known for so long. Following surgery, Gepeto will move into a loving foster home where he can safely recover and begin physical rehabilitation. There, he'll finally experience something every dog deserves—a warm bed, gentle hands, and the patience to heal both physically and emotionally. For a dog who has survived life on the streets, this surgery represents so much more than a medical procedure. It represents hope, comfort, and a future where every step is no longer filled with pain. Your donation today can help make that future possible. Every tax-deductible gift, no matter the size, helps provide the surgery and veterinary care Gepeto urgently needs. If you're unable to donate, sharing his campaign is another powerful way to help him reach compassionate animal lovers. Gepeto has already endured more pain than any dog should have to face. Together, we can give him the chance to heal, recover, and discover the joy of living the life he's always deserved. Please help Gepeto take his first pain-free steps toward a brighter future.

Nieves

Nieves is a 8 year old Chihuahua in Fort Collins, , CO, who needs $600 for emergency care.

Fort Collins,, CO • Amici Cannis

Nieves is an 8-year-old rescue dog who has already overcome so much in her life. Today, she is fighting to recover from a terrifying attack that no dog should ever have to endure. Nieves lives in Cotacachi, Ecuador, with her devoted guardian, who loves and cares deeply for his dogs. This morning, what began as a peaceful day quickly turned into a nightmare. While Nieves and another dog were relaxing together in their yard, an unknown dog suddenly entered the property and viciously attacked them without warning. Both dogs suffered serious injuries. In the chaos, the second dog ran away in fear and has not yet been found. Nieves was immediately rushed to Amici Cannis Hospital, where the veterinary team worked quickly to stabilize her. Under anesthesia, her wounds were thoroughly cleaned, carefully examined, and sutured to reduce the risk of infection and give her the best chance at healing. While Nieves is now recovering under veterinary care, she still has a long road ahead. She will need pain management, medications, follow-up examinations, and continued monitoring to ensure her injuries heal properly and that complications do not arise. For Nieves' guardian, this emergency came without warning. Like so many loving pet owners, he never expected to face such a devastating and costly veterinary crisis. Although he is committed to doing everything he can for Nieves, the unexpected expense of emergency treatment is simply beyond his financial means. No family should have to choose between financial hardship and lifesaving veterinary care for a beloved companion. Your donation will help cover Nieves' emergency treatment, wound care, medications, follow-up visits, and recovery. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps relieve the burden on her guardian and gives Nieves the opportunity to heal without unnecessary suffering. Please consider donating today. If you're unable to give, sharing Nieves' story can help her reach others who are willing to stand beside her during this difficult time. After surviving this frightening attack, Nieves deserves the chance to recover safely, surrounded by the love of the family who cherishes her.

Hit by a Car and Left to Suffer — Tito Needs Us

Fort Collins,, CO • Amici Cannis

This sweet community dog was brought to our hospital after being found with a devastating open fracture that had been left untreated for days. His wound was severely contaminated and infected, with extensive tissue damage from the trauma. Every moment Tito spent suffering alone on the streets meant more pain, more infection, and less chance of saving his leg. Sadly, cases like Tito’s are far too common in Ecuador. Street dogs are often hit by vehicles, and many drivers simply keep going — leaving injured animals behind to suffer without help, terrified and in agony. Tito was one of the lucky ones. Someone finally stopped, cared enough to help, and rushed him to us before it was too late. After carefully evaluating Tito’s injuries, our veterinary team determined that amputation is the only humane option. The damage to his leg is too severe, and without surgery, the infection could continue to spread and become life-threatening. While losing a leg is heartbreaking, dogs like Tito are incredibly resilient, and amputation will give him something he does not have right now: the chance to live without constant pain. Tito will require hospitalization for several days so we can manage his infection, provide pain control, monitor his recovery, and perform the amputation surgery safely. His medical care is expected to cost approximately $750. We urgently need your help to give Tito the treatment he deserves. Your donation will directly support his surgery, medications, hospitalization, and recovery care. Every dollar moves him closer to a life where he no longer has to suffer on the streets in agony. Please donate today to help Tito heal. After days of pain and abandonment, this gentle dog finally has people fighting for him. With your support, we can give him a second chance at comfort, safety, and a future free from suffering. 7/16/26 Update Thanks to your incredible generosity, Tito received the lifesaving surgery and medical care he desperately needed. After undergoing his leg amputation and spending time recovering under the care of our veterinary team, Tito healed beautifully. Like so many resilient dogs, Tito quickly adapted to life on three legs. Once free from the pain and infection that had plagued him for so long, his sweet personality began to shine. It was clear that losing a leg didn't slow him down—it gave him the chance to finally live comfortably. And now for the happiest update of all... Tito has been adopted! This gentle dog, who was once left to suffer alone on the streets with a devastating injury, now has a loving family to call his own. Instead of facing each day in pain and uncertainty, Tito is enjoying the safety, comfort, and affection that every dog deserves. None of this would have been possible without your compassion. Your donations helped provide Tito's surgery, hospitalization, medications, and recovery, giving him the opportunity not only to heal but to find the forever home he had always deserved. From everyone at the rescue—and especially from Tito—thank you for believing that every animal deserves a second chance. Because of you, Tito's story didn't end with tragedy. It ended with hope, healing, and a family of his very own.

After 12 Years on the Streets, Chimbo Deserves Comfort

Fort Collins,, CO • Amici Cannis

Meet Chimbo, a gentle senior about 12 years old who has long been known as the mellow “grandpa” of his neighborhood. He’s wandered the streets for years, quietly winning hearts wherever he goes. Everyone knows him. Everyone likes him. But despite all that kindness, Chimbo has never had a family to call his own. Now, after a lifetime of surviving on his own, his body is asking for help. Chimbo is suffering from severe, chronic ulcerative skin lesions and painful ear infections that have already caused hematomas and ongoing discomfort. His skin is sensitive, he tires easily, and he needs consistent care — something street life simply can’t provide. The team at Amici Cannis stepped in to give this sweet soul a chance. There’s even someone interested in adopting him — which is wonderful news — but they don’t have the financial means to cover the diagnostics and treatment he urgently needs. To truly help Chimbo, veterinarians must perform important diagnostics, including biopsies and cultures, to determine the underlying cause of his chronic skin disease. They also need to rule out possible hormonal imbalances that could be contributing to his condition. These tests are critical — once the cause is identified, his care team can create a targeted treatment plan to relieve his pain and dramatically improve his quality of life. In addition to the initial testing, Chimbo will likely need ongoing care, including medicated baths, daily treatments, and potential monthly follow-ups. With proper medical support, he could finally leave the streets behind and settle into the loving home that’s already waiting for him. Despite everything he’s endured, Chimbo remains a total sweetheart. He greets the world with quiet kindness, asking for little more than comfort, relief, and a soft bed to rest his tired bones. 💛 Your donation will help fund the diagnostics needed to understand Chimbo’s condition 🐾 Your support will help start his treatment and give him lasting relief 🏡 Your generosity could be the final step toward getting him off the streets for good After 12 years of wandering, Chimbo deserves more than survival — he deserves comfort, care, and a family to love him. Every dollar brings this gentle grandpa closer to the peaceful, happy life he’s waited so long to find. 4/28/26 Update We are overjoyed to share that Chimbo’s story has turned into exactly the kind of ending every senior street dog deserves. This sweet old gentleman could not be happier — his skin is healing beautifully, his discomfort is improving, and most importantly, he is no longer facing life alone on the streets. Chimbo has officially found his forever home in the hearts and home of Amici Cannis founders, Drs. Heather and Phillip Steyn. After spending years wandering as the beloved “grandpa” of the neighborhood, Chimbo is now living the good life surrounded by warmth, safety, and companionship. He spends his days alongside the family’s other dogs and enjoys something he likely never had before: a soft, comfortable bed to call his own. And for an extra dose of sweetness, Chimbo has formed an especially adorable bond with his new best friend, Meneer, who has graciously decided to share his favorite bed. Meneer even patiently allows sleepy Chimbo to step all over him while getting settled — proof that true friendship comes in the fluffiest forms. From lonely streets to soft beds, loving hands, and lifelong companionship… this is the happy ending your generosity helped make possible. Chimbo does still require medicated baths and ongoing medication to keep his chronic skin condition under control, so he visits the hospital regularly for continued care. The good news is that he has quickly become a favorite among the veterinary team — though anyone who has met Chimbo knows he has always had a way of winning hearts. Because of your donations, Chimbo was given more than medical treatment. He was given relief. He was given security. He was given a family. Thank you for helping this gentle senior finally experience the comfort, love, and peace he waited so many years to find.

Help Dinki Run Again — Even on Three Legs

Fort Collins,, CO • Amici Cannis

When 5-year-old Dinki was rushed into emergency care at Amici Cannis, the scene was heartbreaking. His right forelimb had been completely destroyed — reportedly crushed by a motorcycle. The damage was catastrophic, and the pain he must have endured is unimaginable. Yet despite everything, Dinki looked up at his family with trust in his eyes. Two options were carefully explained to his guardians: amputation of the severely damaged limb or euthanasia. Pain medications were immediately administered to ease his suffering while they tried to process this impossible decision. Because of financial limitations and his recent medical history, bloodwork was not performed. What was clear, however, was that without surgery, Dinki would not survive. His family simply cannot afford the cost of emergency amputation and hospitalization. When the reality of euthanasia was discussed, Dinki’s guardian burst into tears. The thought of losing him was unbearable. This is not a case of neglect or indifference — this is a family who loves their dog but does not have the financial means to save him. So instead of letting cost determine whether Dinki lives or dies, we chose to fight for him. Dogs are incredibly resilient. With proper amputation surgery, careful pain management, strict postoperative weight control, and dedicated aftercare, Dinki can adapt beautifully and go on to live a full, joyful life on three legs. But he urgently needs surgery, hospitalization, medications, and intensive follow-up care to get there. Without community support, euthanasia may become the only option for this family — not because Dinki cannot be saved, but because they cannot afford to save him. That should never be the reason a young, loving dog loses his life. Dinki is not ready to go. He still has so much life ahead of him. Please help us give him the chance to heal, to adapt, and one day to run again — even if it’s on three legs. Every donation and every share brings him closer to survival. 3/11/26 Update Thanks to the incredible compassion and support from this community, Dinki was able to receive the life-saving surgery he so desperately needed. Dinki recently returned to Amici Cannis for a follow-up visit, and we are happy to share that he is doing well. His surgical site is still in the healing process, but his progress has been very encouraging. According to his guardian, Dinki is eating and drinking normally and has already adapted remarkably well to life on three legs. He is even walking comfortably and continuing to regain his strength each day. During this visit, a topical cream was provided to help support the final stages of wound healing. At this time, Dinki is stable and recovering just as his veterinary team hoped he would. What once began as a heartbreaking emergency — a devastating injury that could have meant the end of his life — has become a story of resilience, love, and community support. Because of you, Dinki was given the chance to heal instead of facing euthanasia simply due to financial hardship. Dogs have an incredible ability to adapt, and Dinki is already proving that life on three legs can still be full of comfort, love, and joy. His family is deeply grateful to everyone who helped make his surgery and recovery possible. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for giving Dinki a second chance at life. Your generosity truly made the difference.

Help Japon Heal: From Abandoned to Hopeful

Fort Collins,, CO • Amici Cannis

Japon is a 2-year-old poodle mix whose life could have ended very differently. He was found near a bus terminal by a compassionate resident who knew he needed help and brought him straight to the hospital. That single act of kindness saved his life. When Japon arrived, he was in rough condition—dangerously thin, covered in fleas, and suffering from a painful abdominal wound. Veterinary exams revealed the true extent of his injuries: Japon had suffered a traumatic impact—likely from a car or another force—that caused his intestines to herniate, a life-threatening condition. Thanks to the incredible generosity of a donor, Japon was able to undergo emergency surgery to repair an inguinal hernia. During that procedure, our medical team discovered a second hernia, requiring an additional surgical correction. Japon is now hospitalized, receiving pain management, close monitoring, and around-the-clock care as he recovers. Because Japon was abandoned, his journey isn’t over yet. He still needs: · A second surgical procedure · Sterilization · Vaccinations and deworming · Continued hospitalization and follow-up care Once healed, Japon will be placed up for adoption so he can finally know safety, stability, and love. Your donation today helps cover Japon’s remaining medical care and gives him the chance to start a new life. He survived trauma and abandonment—now he needs us to carry him the rest of the way. Please donate and be part of Japon’s rescue story. 1/20/26 Update We’re so happy to share a hopeful update on Japon. After undergoing two hernia-repair surgeries, this sweet pup is now recovering comfortably in a foster home. He has completed all of his medications, his stitches were successfully removed at his most recent check-up, and he is healthy and healing beautifully. This is the outcome we all hoped for—but it only happened because Japon received urgent, life-saving medical care when he needed it most. While Japon has come so far, his rescue isn’t fully complete. He still needs ongoing veterinary care, including sterilization, vaccinations, and follow-up visits, and we are still working to cover the significant medical costs already incurred to save his life. If you’re able, please consider donating to support Japon’s continued care and recovery. Every contribution helps ensure that this resilient little dog can move forward healthy, protected, and ready for adoption. Thank you for being part of Japon’s second chance. Together, we’re turning survival into a new beginning.
