Street Dog Left with a Devastating Open Fracture, Maggot-Infested Wounds, and Multiple Fractures After Being Dragged Along the Road

Pinehurst, TX • Soltis Hope Street Animal Rescue

She lay there in the darkness, barely moving and completely alone. Her body was covered in wounds. Her hind leg was shattered, the bone exposed through a devastating open fracture. Maggots crawled through the wounds across her back. She was emaciated, weak, and exhausted. As we stood there looking at her broken body, even after more than ten years of rescue work, we were shaken to our core. We had received the call just before midnight about a dog in extremely bad condition. But we were not prepared for this. Looking at her, we could not understand how she was still alive. We knew immediately that she could not wait until morning. We lifted her as gently as we could and rushed her back to our sanctuary clinic, where our veterinarian worked into the small hours of the morning—removing maggots and necrotic tissue, cleaning her infected wounds, administering fluids, antibiotics, and pain medication, and doing everything possible to stabilize her. By morning, the full extent of her suffering was becoming clear. Her blood work showed severe anemia, and the open fracture we had seen in the darkness was not her only fracture. There are multiple fractures throughout that same hind leg, and we also believe one of her front legs is fractured. Looking at the injuries covering her body, we believe she may have been hit by a vehicle and dragged along the road before being left there—alone—to somehow survive in this condition for possibly a week. But not all of her wounds came from the road. There are also dog bite wounds across her body. While she was already broken, severely injured, and unable to escape, she was attacked by other dogs. We are heartbroken by what she has endured. Disha desperately needs surgery, but right now, she is simply too weak. Before we can repair her shattered bones, we first have to make her strong enough to survive what comes next. For now, we will continue fighting the infection, treating her wounds, managing her pain, correcting her anemia, and giving her body the nutrition and support it so desperately needs. We will do everything in our power to give her the chance she has fought so hard to reach. If you are able to donate, your kindness will help provide Disha with lifesaving medication, daily wound care, blood tests, nutritious food, hospitalization, and, when she is finally strong enough, the orthopedic surgeries she desperately needs. She has survived so much already, but she has a very long road ahead. Together, we can give her the chance to heal. 8/6/26 Update: Disha is a Fighter Weeks ago, Disha was found lying alone in the darkness, barely able to move. Her body was covered in wounds. One of her hind legs had been shattered in a horrific open fracture, with bone exposed. She was severely emaciated, dangerously anemic, and her wounds were infested with maggots. We believe she had been struck by a vehicle, dragged along the road, and left there to suffer. Unable to escape, she was even attacked by other dogs while she lay helpless. When Disha arrived at our sanctuary clinic, she was fighting for her life. Her blood work revealed severe anemia, and she was simply too weak to survive the orthopedic surgery she so desperately needed. Before we could even think about repairing her shattered leg, we had to stabilize her, treat her infections, heal her wounds, improve her blood values, and help her regain the weight she had lost after weeks of suffering. Today, we finally have wonderful news to share. After weeks of intensive care, Disha has just had her third blood test, and we’re thrilled to say that her results have improved enough for surgery to finally go ahead. Even more incredibly, she has gained more than 4 kg (9 lbs) since her rescue—a remarkable transformation for a dog who was once little more than skin and bone. All of the wounds across her body have healed beautifully, her mange has completely cleared, and she looks like a different dog. She is brighter, stronger, and finally ready for the next step in her journey. In just a few days, Disha will undergo the orthopedic surgery to repair her shattered hind leg. We are so excited that she has reached this milestone, and we couldn’t be prouder of how hard she has fought to get here. Please keep Disha in your thoughts as she faces this next chapter. We will be sure to share another update once her surgery has been completed. Thank you to every single person who has supported Disha’s recovery so far. Because of your kindness, she has been given the chance to keep fighting—and now, the chance to walk toward a brighter future.

Keru Fought to Survive. Now He Needs Us to Fight Back.

Pinehurst, TX • Soltis Hope Street Animal Rescue

How long had Keru been living like this? Part of his nose gone, an open wound left to fester, dead tissue and maggots where his face used to be? We may never know exactly how it happened, though the wound suggests something sharp caused it. What we do know is that this street dog suffered far longer than any animal should have to. When Solti's Hope Street Animal Rescue found Keru, he was thin, weak, and in poor body condition. Somehow, though, carrying this devastating injury, he had kept fighting to survive. Keru is now safe in our sanctuary clinic, but his recovery is only beginning. So much skin and tissue have been lost that the wound cannot be closed with sutures. It must heal slowly, in the open, while we fight the infection and give healthy tissue the chance to grow. Every day means careful cleaning, debriding damaged tissue, and closely managing his pain. Keru will always carry scars. He has permanently lost part of his nose, and his face may never look the way it once did. But he is alive, and after everything he has endured, that is nothing short of remarkable. Your donation will give Keru: 🐾 Intensive daily wound care and infection control 🐾 Pain relief and medication 🐾 Nutritious food to rebuild his strength 🐾 Vaccinations and future neutering Keru survived long enough for help to finally reach him. Now it's our turn to make sure that help doesn't stop. Please consider a donation today. This poor boy has suffered alone for far too long. Now he has all of us. 7/21/26 Update: Keru's Wound is Beginning to Heal Remember Keru? The gentle street dog who was found with part of his nose completely missing, leaving a horrific open wound filled with dead tissue and maggots. It is suspected that his devastating injury may have been deliberately inflicted with a sharp object, though what happened may never be known for certain. Whatever the cause, Keru had been suffering for a very long time before he was finally rescued. It has now been just over one week since Keru came into Soltis Hope Street Animal Rescue's care, and although his wound still looks shocking, it is healing far better than anyone had hoped. The infection is gone. All of the dead, necrotic tissue has been removed, and healthy new tissue is growing beautifully. The wound is now a healthy pink color, showing that Keru's body is finally able to begin healing. Because there wasn't enough healthy skin and tissue remaining, the wound could not be closed with sutures. Its location on his face also makes bandaging impossible, so Keru continues to receive careful wound cleaning, medication, and supportive care several times each day as the area heals naturally. While this is an encouraging step forward, Keru still has a long road ahead. Ongoing treatment and daily medical care remain essential to helping him continue healing comfortably. Thank you for standing beside Keru during his recovery. Your generosity is making this life-saving care possible. 8/8/26 Update: Keru's Sweet Spirit Continues to Shine One of the best parts of Keru's recovery has been watching his personality emerge. Despite everything he has endured, Keru is eating and drinking well, has received his first vaccinations, and continues to show everyone what a gentle, loving boy he truly is. Although part of his nose can never grow back, Keru continues to receive daily wound care and monitoring as he heals. Every day brings him one step closer to a life free from the pain and suffering he endured for so long. Thank you to everyone who has donated to Keru's fundraiser. Your kindness is giving him the medical care, comfort, and second chance he deserves. Soltis Hope Street Animal Rescue will continue to share updates as Keru's journey continues.

Mia's Jaw Was Shattered. Saving Her Meant Flying Her Across Nepal.

Pinehurst, TX • Soltis Hope Street Animal Rescue

This tiny puppy lay alone in the darkness on the streets of Dhangadhi with her jaw shattered. Broken in several places and hanging painfully from her tiny face, Mia could barely eat or close her mouth. Every movement hurt. Weak, terrified, and exhausted from suffering alone on the streets, this little baby would not have survived much longer without help. When a video of Mia's condition reached Soltis' Hope Street Animal Rescue, it was immediately clear that she needed urgent intervention. But saving Mia would not be simple. Dhangadhi is far from the rescue's veterinary resources, and the specialized orthopedic care Mia desperately needed was not available locally. To make matters even more difficult, the rescue's orthopedic surgeon was away completing advanced training. With no other options available, arrangements were made to fly Mia to Kathmandu for emergency treatment. Two compassionate women gently cleaned her wounds as best they could and prepared her for the journey, comforting a tiny puppy whose face had been shattered by trauma no animal should ever endure. Waiting in Kathmandu was volunteer Sapana, who rushed Mia straight from the airport to the hospital. There, veterinarians confirmed the devastating extent of her injuries. Her jaw was fractured in multiple places and required complex surgery involving plates and wiring to reconstruct the tiny bones in her face. And somehow, this brave little puppy survived it all. The surgery was successful, and Mia is now recovering safely in foster care with Sapana, surrounded by warmth, medication, soft food, and love while her little body heals. Once she is strong enough, she will travel to Soltis' Hope Street Animal Rescue and officially become part of the Soltis' family forever. Every animal deserves a chance to heal. For Mia, that chance meant emergency transport, a flight to Kathmandu, specialized orthopedic surgery, hospitalization, medications, and ongoing recovery care that would not have been possible without intervention. While Mia's surgery was a success, the costs of her rescue continue. Emergency transportation, airfare, orthopedic surgery, hospitalization, medications, and long-term foster care have created significant expenses for a rescue already caring for vulnerable street animals in need. Your donation helps cover the life-saving care Mia has already received and supports her continued recovery as she heals and prepares for the bright future she nearly never had. Thank you for helping make stories like Mia's possible. Soltis' Hope Street Animal Rescue is a Texas-based 501(c)(3) that operates a sanctuary and provides rescue and medical care for street animals in Bardiya, Nepal. 7/7/26 Update Do you remember tiny Mia? 🥹 The little puppy who lay alone in the darkness on the streets of Dhangadhi with her jaw shattered in several places… The little baby whose jaw hung painfully from her face, who could barely eat or close her mouth, and who had to be flown all the way to Kathmandu for complex orthopedic surgery… Look at her now. ❤️ Mia’s jaw has healed beautifully. In fact, it healed so well that she recently returned to her orthopedic veterinarian and had the wires removed from her jaw. The tiny broken bones in her face have healed, the surgery was a success, and our little girl is doing absolutely amazingly. And Mia is not so tiny anymore. 🥹 She has gained lots of weight. She has grown so much. She plays with the other puppies, enjoys every moment of her new life, and is making up for all the love and happiness she missed while suffering alone on the streets. And her foster mommy? Well… she absolutely adores her. ❤️ Mia is spoiled exactly as she should be. She sleeps on the bed, plays with all the other puppies, and spends her days surrounded by comfort, safety, and love. From lying alone in the darkness with a shattered jaw… To sleeping in a bed, playing with friends, and being completely adored. This is what rescue can do. Mia was expected to eventually travel to Solti’s Hope and become part of our family, but now we are wondering if perhaps there is another future waiting for her… A family of her very own. 🏡❤️ We are currently looking for a wonderful adopter for Mia and would love to find her a possible international home. After everything this little girl has survived, she deserves the most extraordinary life. If you—or someone you know—might be interested in adopting Mia, please reach out to us. Her jaw has healed. Her little body has grown strong. And now, perhaps, it is time for the next chapter of Mia’s story to begin. ❤️ 7/21/26 Update: Mia is Thriving What a difference your kindness has made for little Mia. After everything she endured, Mia is doing incredibly well in her foster home in Kathmandu as she continues to recover from her reconstructive jaw surgery. Now that she is feeling better, her true personality is shining through, and she is finally getting the chance to simply be a happy puppy. One of Mia's favorite things in the world is food. After spending so long unable to eat properly because of her shattered jaw, she now eagerly enjoys every meal, snack, and treat that comes her way. She has even grown the cutest little chubby belly—a wonderful reminder of just how far she has come. Mia has now received two rounds of vaccinations, been dewormed, treated for fleas and ticks, and recently completed another post-operative checkup. Her veterinarians are very pleased with her progress, and her jaw continues to heal beautifully. Looking at Mia today, it's hard to believe she is the same tiny puppy who was found suffering alone with a shattered jaw. Today she is safe, loved, healthy, and finally discovering all the joys of puppyhood. Thank you to everyone who donated, shared her story, and believed that one small life was worth saving. Because of your compassion, Mia was able to receive the life-saving surgery and medical care she desperately needed. Your generosity gave her the chance not just to survive, but to truly live. From all of us at Soltis' Hope Street Animal Rescue—thank you for making Mia's incredible journey possible.

Jaona’s Fight to Heal — Multiple Fractures, Urgent Orthopedic Care

Pinehurst, TX • Soltis Hope Street Animal Rescue

At just four months old, Jaona has already endured more pain than any puppy should ever know. This tiny street pup was found with devastating, life-threatening injuries, including fractures to three legs, her hip, and pelvis. One of her hind legs suffered an open femur fracture, while her front leg had a severe break accompanied by a large, painful wound. Another fracture had already begun to heal improperly before help could reach her. Despite the severity of her condition, Jaona was given a chance. A compassionate individual drove her three hours to reach Solti’s Hope Street Animal Rescue, where she could receive the urgent, specialized care she desperately needed. In this rural region of Nepal, Solti’s Hope is often the only lifeline for injured street animals for hundreds of miles. Jaona has since undergone complex orthopedic surgery. Her most critical fractures were stabilized using advanced techniques, including internal pinning and an external skeletal fixator to support healing while allowing ongoing wound care. Some injuries, however, had progressed too far for surgical repair and must now heal slowly with time, strict rest, and continued medical support. Her journey is far from over. Jaona requires ongoing wound care, medications, follow-up treatment, rehabilitation, vaccinations, and eventually spay surgery. As a sanctuary rescue, Solti’s Hope is committed to providing her with lifelong care, safety, and love. And through it all, Jaona continues to show quiet resilience, gently wagging her tail and looking to her caregivers with trust. Her strength is remarkable. But she cannot do this alone. The cost of emergency surgery, ongoing treatment, and long-term care is significant. Your support will go directly toward covering Jaona’s veterinary expenses and ensuring she has the future she deserves. Thank you for helping give Jaona a second chance.

Pippy

Pippy is a 7 month old Japanese Spitz in Nepal, who needs $1,000 for urgent surgery.

Pinehurst, TX • Soltis Hope Street Animal Rescue

Pippi dragged her little body along the ground; her back legs were deformed from a combination of malnutrition and congenital disabilities, which left her unable to walk. She was dumped and discovered alone on the streets, struggling to survive. When our Soltis Hope Street Animal Rescue team learned of her heart-wrenching condition, we didn't hesitate. We immediately sprang into action, determined to save her. We knew from the moment we saw her that we would do everything to give this sweet pup every chance at a better life. We gently scooped her into our arms, feeling her tiny heart beating against us. After consulting with the country's best orthopedic surgeon, we knew the surgery to help her would be difficult and expensive. It involves pinning, cross-pinning, and plating both legs to reconstruct her back limbs. This intricate procedure is necessary to give her the best chance to walk again. Please help us turn Pippy's life from pain and sadness to one of the greatest success stories ever!
