Penny
Penny is a five-year-old Hound in Geneva, OH, who needs $1,080 for critical care.

When you look into Penny's soulful eyes, it's hard to imagine that her past was filled with horror. "Her front elbow and leg were badly broken but never tended to," Duane J., with NE Ohio Greyhound Rescue, tells Waggle. "Thankfully, Penny managed to escape her tormenters by limping across a field toward safety. After being found by a good Samaritan, she was surrendered to a shelter and transferred to our sanctuary." The rescue rushed Penny to Madison Veterinary Hospital, where she needs urgent care for stage two kidney failure, a skin infection, heartworm, and Ehrlichia, a tickborne illness. Penny suffers each day with a painful permanent limp and degenerative arthritis. Once the nonprofit group addresses Penny's pressing medical needs, they will focus on helping her leg. The rescue is very optimistic about Penny. "Despite the abuse she suffered, Penny is sweet and kind and forgiving," Duane adds. "She gets along well with all the other hounds at the sanctuary and has a hearty appetite. She has become quite attached to her caretakers. Penny's soulful eyes, however, still hint at her former abuse, and there are times when she seems very sad." And Penny is a role model for all who have endured abuse. Somehow, she escaped with multiple painful health issues and survived. She seems to know that she's in a good place now. "Penny will need lifetime care, and we need help with her veterinary bills," Duane says. "As a registered nonprofit, we rely on donations to pay for our dogs' care. Please give Penny the future she deserves!"
Hawi
Hawi is a 2-year-old Domestic Short Hair Cat in Honolulu , HI, who needs $1,900 for Cystotomy.

I found my all blk male kitty Hawi in my apt bld parking lot all alone. He came right to me crying & I brought him up to my 1 bdr apt. He was about 8wks, hungry, thirsty, dirty & fit right in with my other kittys who I also rescued from the prk lot. He is now 2 yrs old, fixed & chipped. My sweetest Hawi's name is the birth place of King Kamehameha Hi Island & is majestic, spectacular & sacred. Hawi is friends with my 2 other kittys. They all get along, eat, play and have fun with each other. My female Maya who is also fixed & chipped and the around same size loves to chase, jump on his back and roll around on each other. They are definitely a couple. He loves to sleep right on my chest, that is absolutely his spot every night. It just warms my heart to see him so happy and loved by all. As much as Hawi is attached to his paw family he wants my attention as well. He loves for me to pick him up but very specific about when he wants me to do it. He will talk up a storm, get on his hind legs stretch his front arms and paws on me while still talking (asking) for a pick up. Every time he asks for a pick up it makes me laugh out loud and as soon as he is in my arms the purring starts. In December of 2021 I noticed Hawi bearing down to urinate. I have brought him into my vet 3 times to manage and dissolve his bladder stones to no avail. His only alternative to solve his problem is a Cystotomy. Cystotomy is a surgical procedure used in cats to remove bladder stones. This procedure is 100% effective and will save his life. As a senior on SSI in Honolulu I live on a fixed income. I have no extra funds for his surgery & this is now life or death. His bladder stones are now blocking him from urinating & when he does there is blood. He sits on me & pees blood to show me his pain. Heartbreaking!
Leela

I found this 8 week old kitten almost dead. I’ve saved her for 9 days now. She is eating, drinking, and toileting. But she was so sick. I’ve taken her to a family members vet and she is getting antibiotics, eye ointment, and had iv fluids and steroids, however, her eye is gonna need more medical attention and most likely removal. I can keep her but can’t afford medical bills right now. Thank you She is the most loving baby I’ve ever seen. Although she must be in a great deal of discomfort, she just purrs and follows you. She loved to perch on my shoulder and get love. We recently had to euthanize our 15 year old dog… so our hearts are heavy… but sweet Leela is helping fill the big hole we were left with Seeing that Leela is only a wee baby and I just found her a little over a week ago, her behaviors ans personality are still being observed and learned. She is so so very loving and wants to perch on my shoulder when being held. She prefers me over my kids, maybe because she still not feeling great, maybe she just likes me 😉 Infant rescue kitten with eye infection. SEVERE. Needs medical assistance. Smith Veterinary hospital, Spartanburg, SC had bid the surgical removal of the eye at 800.00. This is who we will be using for treatment and post operatively. Leela was found with a litter mate in a neighbors yard. My aunt and I rescued them but Leela needs more vet care than I can afford right now. I recently (last week) started a new job after unexpectedly losing my job a few months ago. I was without work over two months. Last week we had to put our 15 yo dog down… money is just hard to come by temporarily
Cocoa
Cocoa is a two-month-old chocolate Lab puppy in Austin, TX who needs $900 for treatment of burned paws.

When Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption volunteers first saw Cocoa's sweet face and burnt paws on a shelter's social media post, they sprang into action. There was no way they could leave that adorable puppy in the animal control facility. "The picture of the puppy's red feet brought tears to our eyes," the rescue tells Waggle. "An animal control officer spotted her and picked her up, thank goodness! She was all by herself." No one knows how Cocoa's paw pads became so burnt. Her veterinarian at New Hope Animal Hospital isn't sure if it was a chemical burn or if the poor pup had been running on hot asphalt as a stray. Let's remember; we're talking "Texas hot" asphalt. Temperatures in The Lone Star State have been hovering around 90 to 100 degrees this summer, which means the asphalt could heat up to 160 degrees. "We believe it's likely the burns came from walking on the hot road," the rescue says. Cocoa is on several medications and antibiotics to help her little feet heal. Her prognosis is excellent. Cocoa's foster mom, Margaret S., says the puppy now walks on her tip toes due to the pain. We hope she realizes she can walk on her full paws again once she heals. Don't tiptoe around it. Let's help Cocoa!
Sugar
Sugar is a 2-month-old Domestic Longhair Kitten in Kitts Hill , OH, who needs $500 for Surgical and Medical Intervention.

Poor little sugar was all alone, cold and wet in southern Ohio. Someone had cruelly abandoned her we suspect in the middle of nowhere. We believe this person abandoned her because she had a severe rectal prolapse and was ill. Sugar was so very fortunate to be found by someone who then brought her to MisFit Paws rescue in southern Ohio. Sugar is a super friendly kitten. She recently had her surgery and is now resting alot and recovering from so much trauma to her poor little body. She loves her foster mom and just loves to be held and cuddled. She does not show any negative reactions to people or to other animals. She just seems super grateful for the care. Sugar is a young girl and at this point, due to recovery from such a horrible trauma, it's hard to see any unusual behavior. She is just so tiny, cute and sweet and looks at you as if to say "thank you". We are looking forward to her feeling well enough to show her true antics and idiosyncracies. Poor little Sugar was found in very poor physical condition with a prolapsed rectum, a very severe condition. She was treated at the Pawsitive Pet Care Clinic in Flatwoods, KY. We are grateful to have this hospital relatively close to us. They fixed Sugar surgically but Sugar will still need follow up care and spay. We are a rescue located in southern Ohio near Kentucky. We have more than our share of stray dogs and cats and intake many given we are in such a needy area. It is hard to keep up with the demand and we must rely on donations for our beloved pets that we rescue.
Ezra
Ezra is a 2-year-old Chinese SharPei in Phoenix, AZ, who needs $994 for Biopsy and Mass Removal.

Ezra is a 5 years old SharPei from the county shelter euthanasia list. She weighs 39 lbs. She is just a shy girl trying to navigate her way in this big world. Staff found her curled up on her bed not wanting to come out of her kennel. She mostly hides curled up on her bed from the noisy kennel life. Our rescue is looking to save her and get her medical treatment so she can go to a home! Ezra always wants to be in the same room with us. Most the time she sleeps on the couch, but sometimes in the middle middle of the night, she comes upstairs and crawls in bed with us. Ezra likes to go for walks, but until her leg gets better we don’t walk too far. She likes going for car rides to pick mom up from work. She is trying to play with the other dogs and she REALLY loves her hotdogs! Ezra likes to think she is a 55 pound lap dog. She also likes to just flop and lay whenever the notion hits her, and you had better not have wanted to walk there, because she just gives you the look of I’m not moving! She does like laying outside in the sun. It’s funny, when one dogs starts barking, the rest join in, but looking at each other because nobody really knows what they're barking about! She has a lump on her leg and we’re still not sure if it’s cancerous. She limps on the leg with the lump, so she gets pain pills that help. We are hoping the treatment alleviates the pain she can go for longer walks, play more, and live a full, pain free life. In a short time, she has shown herself to be a sweet, loving dog that just wants love and attention. She deserves a chance for long life! We were able to save Ezra hours before she was scheduled to be euthanized. She was a fear dog, afraid of literally everything. She was 20 pounds underweight, literally starving from being on the street. The rescue needs funds for treatment so she can finally be adopted!
Horton
Horton is a 12-year-old Beagle in Geneva, OH, who needs $60 for X-Rays to Check for Bladder Obstructions.

We received a message that Horton was in dire need of rescue as his owner was leaving the country in 2 days and Horton would be euthanized if a rescue could not be found. We immediately made arrangements to take him into The Sanctuary and to give him all the care he needs for the rest of his life. He's settling in here and making many friends with the other hounds and human caretakers. Horton is a quiet, sensitive soul who spends most of his days resting. He's grossly obese and has a heart murmur and significant arthritis in his hips, so he moves slowly. The cataracts have left him completely bind at night, but he takes it all in stride and doesn't seem to be bothered by his afflictions. He's a sweet old man that just wants to be loved. When it's time to go potty, Horton lets us know with a loud, raspy beagle bark. He sniffs around outside and does his business like a pro. He's gentle and kind with the other hounds and has taken a liking to Penny Hound. He will follow her around like a puppy dog. Horton is not found of being groomed, but he tolerates it when we brush out his thick coat and trim his nails. In addition to his cataracts and arthritis, Horton is having some difficulty urinating and seems to be uncomfortable when his abdomen is touched. Tests show no sign of infection. His prostate is of normal size and his kidneys are functioning. Dr. Zulandt, from Madison Vet Hospital, needs x-ray images to check for obstructions, stones and tumors. As a registered non-profit animal sanctuary, we rely on donations to pay for the medical bills of the animals in our care. We have already raised funds for Horton's medications and tests, but we need funds for the x-rays. Please show Horton that his life matters.
Jack
Jack is a two-year-old Terrier in Ewing, NJ, who needs $1,213 for urgent eye surgery.

Jack is an almost two year old handsome mixed breed boy that was born in the care of EASEL Animal Rescue. His mom was a petite and friendly gal who, (surprise!) was pregnant so she was placed in foster to deliver her puppies. Jack was the tiniest of the litter, and before his eyes were even open he developed an infection that caused scarring on his eye. At the time of Jack's adoption his eye did not need to be removed, but it was clear that would happen in the future. As time went on Jack enjoyed countless adventures with his human, Dana, and older fur brothers Rocco and Albie. Despite having this issue he was able to grow up big and strong and did not let his disability hinder him. But as predicted his eye became worse and needed surgery. Jack is a road warrior and loves to ride in the car and go to the beach. He's very talented at opening gifts. But his eye needed to be dealt with so he could keep on having fun. After numerous conversations with the family vet Jack was scheduled at one of EASEL's partner vet hospitals to have eye removal surgery performed in late June and everything had gone relatively well. Unfortunately after a few days, Jack developed an infection which needed to be addressed. He had developed a fever earlier that morning it was urgent that services were sought out for resolution. He was sent to Crown Veterinary Specialists by his owner, Dana, where he received medications and his incision was reopened and flushed. Jack is back on the road to recovery, fortunately. Most adopters have the ability to pay for routine care, and cover some emergency costs. Things are getting tighter and tighter, so it's tough to get every bill paid. Beast
Beast is a 9-year-old Rottweiler in North Liberty, IA, who needs $2,000 for Chemotherapy.

My beautiful male rottweiler Beast. He came into my life at just 12 weeks old! I got him from a puppy store. A few days in, I noticed he was sick. I took him to the doctor, double pneumonia and giardia. I remember nights being up with him while he ran outside with diarrhea, and panting from the pneumonia. Now I'm up with you as you pant at night from nerve pain. Beast is married to a female rottweiler named Beauty. The love one another and have been together for 7 years! They literally kiss one another when they see each other! The two of them enjoy running in the snow together, hikes on the trails, swimming in pools and lakes, trying new foods, and visits from Grandma! Beast has such a stoic demeanor. He can be calm and cool and confident. He can also be the protector and muscle in the household. He is the kindest most sweetest soul that was placed in a dogs body. He is highly intelligent. I trust him with my life. He can read people's auras (he instinct knows if your a good/bad person) Beast is a very healthy 9 year old neutered male Rottweiler. Like most Osteosarcoma stories, dogs start with a limp, and x-rays show a lesion of some sort. Beast had a leg amputation on 6/16/22 and needs chemotherapy to stop metastasis from occurring. Currently his blood work and x-rays look great, lymph nodes look great, and is healing well from his surgery. He desperately needs the chemo Beast is a patient of Iowa State Small Animal Hospital Oncology Department. The quote for chemo is 6k. I am a recently divorced/single dog mom who works as a preschool teacher and makes very little money (as all teachers do) I can continue his healthcare, but need help.
