I was born in Arizona in Jan. 2020. Two weeks after being born, I was given away to a local shelter and life was looking grim until a loving couple agreed to foster me. Later I’d learn they’d become my Grammy and Grandpa, but at this point in my story, they’re my saving grace. Soon, my mom came into the picture and drove 800 miles from Colorado to meet and adopt me and it was love at first sight! Shortly after arriving to my new home, my mom took me to this horrible place called “the vet”. She tries to make it sound not so scary, but I know better and don’t like going. Upon my exam, I had discomfort in my hips and was told it may be Hip Dysplasia. At only 4 months old, I was skeptical. How could they diagnose that when I was still growing? My pain continued for months and so did testing. Eventually, I was diagnosed with a rare, incurable disease called Brucellosis. Simply put, this bacterial infection can cause reproductive problems (I’m neutered). But, there’s much more to it. I have constant pain preventing me from walking too far and from playing with my doggie friends. So, like in the age of Covid, I can only say ‘hi’ from a distance and will live mostly in isolation. My mom was despondent knowing my life would change immediately, when all she ever wanted was to give me the best Colorado dog life ever! Often, parents make the heart wrenching decision to euthanize as it requires a major financial, emotional, and mental commitment. On top of regular check ups, this includes, but not limited to: 3-4 X-rays and various tests annually and daily medications for life. Mom doesn’t like to ask for help but says euthanasia isn’t an option. Thus, I know she’d be grateful for any support towards my expenses so I can be as healthy as can be. We got her from a girl I work with who had a accidental litter of puppies. We had lost a dog to cancer and Lyme disease a few weeks before and our other dog was lonely and needed a friend and playmate. She needed a loving home and a family of her own and we had both the love and home to share with her. She loves to sleep in bed with us she has her own blanket she has had since just tiny. She loves to cuddle and have her belly rubbed she woofs at you to say hello and to get attention from you. She loves to play with anything that squeaks. Is always happy to see anyone and always wagging her tail. I work full time & my husband is disabled &she is a companion for him when I am working & she is a friend and playmate for our other dog she is a wonderful puppy very calm and listens very well for a 18 week old puppy. She is not just a dog she is a family member & loved!! She is at Noah’s Ark Animal hospital in Manchester Kentucky being cared for By Dr Massey and his wonderful staff. Her symptoms started as vomiting and being tired and refusing food then today she had diarrhea I called them and they got her in rite away and have been wonderful and explained everything Her best friend is our Male Shar-Pei who is 8 and was a rescue at 18 months old. Even though he is bigger than her she only 15 weeks old and is in no way afraid of him she likes to play with him and follow him around. She has a adorable way of tilting her head when you talk to her she gets mad when you shut the shower curtain to shower and she can’t see you.
Bella rose
Bella Rose is a 4-year-old Boxer in Canandaigua, NY, who needs $900 for a tumor removal.

Bella was born in August of 2016, the neighbor at the time was breeding her dogs for the money, almost a puppy mill but personal. The neighbor came to the house with a picture of the brindle beauty and I dropped the money then, without hesitation. I had to wait for 8 weeks, and it was difficult to do so, the conditions were aweful for her and brothers, so much so our friends bought the brothers. Bella is the queen of the house, she is full of life and loves everyone in the home. She does not growl or bite and can be walked around the neighborhood without a leash. During summer months she spends her days laying in the sun and greeting people walking up the road. Bella is typically full of energy and loves to play with her brothers and her human family. Due to the pandemic, my wife has not been able to work, and I have had to move my daughters family into my home. I have not been able to save enough money to be able to have the tumor removed. To have Bella be able Lively again will mean the world to everyone. Around the age of two Bella started growing a number at the base of her tail. Since then it has grown substantially, to.the point where it.covers her anus and fecal matter covers it,, and we have to clean the area to ensure it does not get infected. The vet has watched this, as we have and the now needs to be removed, as it breaks open and bleeds and has a high risk of infection. Bella has a lot of human behaviors from laying on her back in bed to sitting upright like a person on the couch, she is gentle and loving and the consumate pet. She checks on everyone during the overnight, making sure people are where they should be, when you dont feel well, she won't leave your side until your better.
Arlo
Arlo is a 1-year-old Black Lab Mix in Summerville, SC, who needs $1,900 for knee surgery to fix luxating patellas in both knees.

We adopted Arlo on Jan. 31, 2020. We saw him online and rushed to the humane society first thing when they opened. We loved him at first site. Arlo lives with his older uncle dog, Roro. He also lives with his many humans: mom, dog grandfather, dog grandmother, two uncles, and two aunts. His youngest human aunt is 19 months old- he loves sharing food with her! Arlo is fantastic with everyone! He is a big ol’ barrel full of love! He’s good with everyone he meets, he thinks he’s a lapdog. We all love him as if he were our baby. He’s fantastic with kids. Loved to share food with his infant aunt. His injury has us all worried sick! Arlo is the best of the best! We had a house fire four months after we got Arlo and to be honest, pet insurance slipped our mind. We were displaced from our home and when we were pricing out policies is when he slipped and we got the diagnosis. Pet insurance isn’t even an option now. On Christmas Day, Arlo slipped on our lvp flooring. We thought he had a broken toenail. Two vet visits and $1,000 later, we find out that he has luxating patellas in both needs and requires surgery. We take him to the Summerville Pet Clinic in Summerville, SC. We love the pet clinic and trust their judgment- they have treated our other dog for cancer. Arlo fit in perfectly with our family. Our daughter, Meg, desperately wanted to raise a dog from the puppy stage (our other dog, Roro) was 2 years old when we adopted him. Our rule about getting a puppy was that he had to come from a shelter! Arlo’s cutest feature is that he snores like a human at night!!!!

Kristina D. knew the precious looking orange and white kitten she saw in an online adoption photo was destined to be hers. "He was lying upside down. He looked like a little goofball," Kristina says. "He had been found wandering the streets of New York City." She raced over to the shelter, adopted him, and named him Pignoli, after her favorite Italian cookie. Shortly after Kristina brought Pignoli home, she noticed what looked like black dirt in his ears. It turns out that was a warning sign of a big problem. In the following months, Pignoli suffered through a long road of ear infections, vet appointments, X-rays, and surgery consults. The final diagnosis: Pignoli has severe polyps deep inside both of his ears that need to be removed. "We're really upset. I'm a mess," Kristina tells Waggle in tears. "I'm sorry I'm crying. It's quite a big surgery. They have to drill a bit into his skull." Kristina knows Pignoli is in good hands with the surgical team at Animal Emergency Referral Associates, but Kristina is panicked about how to pay the bill. She thought she did everything right and bought pet insurance for Pignoli, but the company denied the claim, saying his polyps were a pre-existing condition. "We appealed it. I wrote a letter. I had my own vet write a letter. They would not budge," Kristina says. Kristina is a social worker, and her partner is a full-time student. They are living on one income and sick with worry about finances. They want to get Pignoli his surgery right away. If he doesn't have the operation, his situation could become dire. "The polyps can grow as he grows, and they could grow into his throat cavity and cause breathing problems," Kristina says. "They could grow and mess up things with his nerve endings. He shakes his head a lot. He knows the polyps are there. If he keeps shaking, it could also cause nerve damage."
Luigi
Luigi is a 13-year-old Maltese in Yorba Linda, CA, who needs $850 for cancer treatment.

2020 was a rough year for Celia R., and without your help, 2021 will be even tougher. Celia lost her job due to COVID-19, her son was diagnosed with a debilitating illness, and then their beloved dog, Luigi, was diagnosed with lung cancer. "Lung cancer is very rare and only affects less than one percent of dogs," Celia tells Waggle. "He had his first appointment with the oncologist at Advanced Veterinary Specialty Group. Dr. Bommarito performed a chest X-ray, and it showed a mass the size of a kiwi on Luigi’s right lung." The news devastated Celia and her family. "I adopted Luigi 12 years ago as a gift from Santa for my son," Celia says. "All he wanted for Christmas was a puppy. My son refers to him as his little brother. Luigi walked my son to kindergarten every day, and he was part of my son’s high school graduation this year. They even wore matching graduation caps." Luigi started taking anti-cancer pills, and they appear to be shrinking the tumor! The problem is Celia can't afford the cost of his treatment, which seems promising so far. She is desperately trying to find another job. "It's just a bad time right now," she adds. "I do marketing and events, and we have no events because of the pandemic." Her family would be thrilled to keep Luigi's treatment going and hope, with your help, they may reach their fundraising goal. "Luigi is the sweetest dog alive. He's the heart of my family. We were so devastated when we heard the news. Now we want to keep him in a healthy place. He's the sunshine of my family." Their family is trying to be optimistic, but they need help paying for Luigi's care. "Luigi is simply the heart of my little family. He’s very well behaved, loving and playful. Our lives are so much better because he has been in our family. He’s the best part of our day. Luigi loves to play and guard the door. His cute little bark has certainly kept us safe! He loves to run around outdoors, and he loves to eat his num nums," Celia adds.
Two Boos
Two Boos is a five-month-old kitten in Pittsburgh, PA, who needs $1,000 for leg surgery.

I am a vet who volunteers with The Street Dog Coalition, providing care to pets of people experiencing homelessness. Two Boos belongs to a woman named Laura who was homeless, but recently found housing. Two Boos was out exploring in an unsafe area and got caught in a hole under a rock. Her rear leg broke and had to be amputated, and unfortunately, there were post-surgical complications. Two Boos has a wonderful mix of a determined spirit alongside a gentle and understanding sense of self. Her determination to heal was apparent in that she allowed me to perform multiple bandage changes and she put up with daily medications and a cone around her head 24/7. Much more so than the average feline would be willing to endure. Two Boos’ owner, who was previously homeless, does not have the funds for veterinary care. While I was able to provide a free month of medical foster care, the hospital bills had to be paid. Our PA Street Dog Coalition team is now trying to refill the kitty (pun intended). 11/12: Amputated rear right leg at Animal Friends Shelter. 11/19: Back into surgery for dehiscence and infection. Medical foster for 2 weeks. 11/22: Shivering, discharge, odor. 11/22- 11/24: Temp WNL and BAR. 11/25: Additional surgery at Humane Animal Rescue (HAR). 12/2: Continued treatment. 12/3: Recheck at HAR. Medical foster continued beyond 2 weeks. 12/19: Two Boos healed and returned home Two Boos was amazing to work with and her calm personality is likely was the reason for her eventual healing. She was also very sweet with my household pets and family members. She adapted to having only three legs and entertained us with her sweet nature and keen interest in pair of unicorn slippers.
June
June is a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois in Saint John, KS, who needs $2,000 for Foot Reconstruction.

On a family walk to the town square, we came across what looked like a stray dog, she spotted us and came over to us. She was so sweet and friendly, but she was malnourished and limping. Someone had already called dispatch to pick her up, so we waited with her for the next half hour until she was picked up. Our family fell in love, and said we would take her if she wasn't claimed by her owners. When we got the call that we could pick her up from the pound, we went out and bought dog supplies, and got a pen all set up outside. But June has not even spent one night in it. She has her own fluffy pillow and snowman blanket that she love. June loves to play outside with our older girls, they run around our year and play fetch when her paw isnt hrting too bad. June is in constant pain, requiring pain medication. She also is unable to enjoy runs or chasing squirrels because she will be in pain afterwards and limp or squeal in pain while playing. We want her to be able to enjoy life again, now that she has a forever family Through vet appointments with Dr. Weber, trying to find June's owners, and make sure she was caught up on shots. We found out she has a chronic paw fracture, from approximately 2 months ago that has healed improperly and needs completely reset through surgery and the addition of pins and plates. We have been referred to Dr. Renberg, at the Kstate Veterinary Hospital for this intense surgery. June is so special to us. We rescued her about 2 weeks ago now, and she has worked her way into our hearts, quickly becoming a part of our family. She even won over our cat! Her sweet personality is so good with all our kiddos, and she has so much energy to play. She loves to go on walks and pick up our oldest from school. She is a social dog, and enjoys all the pets and attention from kids.
Dutchess Johnson

After losing Magic to Parvo in 2000, We didn’t want to put our boys through that trauma again. However, in 2007 we had a huge change of heart and lived in a place we could have pets, that’s when Dutchess came into our hearts/home, born in the dead of winter, the only survivor of the litter. My husband’s co-worker promised us a dog, so he kept his word and gave us his only pup in Jan. 08 @ 6wks. Dutchess was named by my sister because of her prissy demeanor and believe you me she earned every bit of the name. She loves people, more importantly she loves kids, she loves it when you throw her toys so she can run and get them. Even now at 13yr she still loves to run after balls, play tug-o-war, and hide and seek. Every time the doorbell rings she barks like security but wags in submission. With the pressing amount of bills/debit we already have then not receiving a stimulus check this go round, we are in desperate need of help getting our fur baby’s tumor taken off her elbow. She’s 13yrs old but our baby has so much spunk in her euthanizing is not an option! We didn’t notice a bump growing on her elbow until it was the size a golf ball early last year. It didn’t seem to bother her but started to grow even more we took her to her vet Dr. Riggs @ Eastland Animal Clinic, and was able to use our 1st stimulus check in April 2020 to have it remove. Now it’s back, growing at a faster rate, it looks as if it could pop at any moment, and she very uncomfortable Dutchess is even more special to me now because since becoming disabled in 2016, she has become the mother and I the child. Home alone on a daily basis, Dutchess watches my every move, I can’t be out of my room for long or she’ll whine until I get back in there. She doesn’t like anyone letting her out to the bathroom but me, and she will sit and stare me down and whine until I get up to let her out
