Oliver

Oliver and I met six years ago as I looked at shelter kittens, determined I wasn't adopting anyone that day. I returned for him the next morning! 🤣 He's so full of love, and is the sweetest, silliest kitty I know. He coos! That's how he and my cat Harrison became friends. Oliver cooed through a closed door, and Harrison cooed back. Then they both started cooing at me! Harrison is Oliver's special friend. Ollie follows Harrison around, tail up straight in the air. Though, Oliver herds H into the bathroom when it's time for H's medicines. That's because they BOTH get treats afterwards! Oliver comes to me whenever I call. Lately, he sits quietly with me while I'm meditating -- close to me, but far enough away that I can't pet him. "Stop it, Mom! We're meditating!" At $7,500-9,000, the surgery is super expensive. I've already paid for an MRI (hence the shaved area on his side), other tests and specialist appointments. I'll do what's needed to help Ollie but I've been out of work due to my medical issues for almost 4 years so it's hard. A few weeks ago, Oliver had an episode that looked like a stroke. His pupils became different sizes, he walked aimless circles, etc. I took him to neurologist Dr. Bibi at BluePearl in Kirkland, WA, who found a meningioma brain tumor. She believes a craniotomy can remove it and return his quality of life. Without surgery, even with meds, he'll progressively worsen and die in "weeks to months". 😥 Oliver has his own unique style. When hungry, he licks his lips. If I ask him if he's done eating, he spins around to say he's finished. When he walks upstairs, he zig-zags. Ollie also has an amazing internal clock. If he wakes me up too early, I tell him how many minutes to wait and that's how long he waits before reaching up from the floor to tap my shoulder again. For real!
Honeybun

Honeybun came into our lives at a very hard time we had lost our dog to cancer. We knew something was missing in our lives and here comes honeybun. Honeybun was a feral kitten that was living outside in the woods behind our home. We had a very bad storm one night and here comes honeybun meowing outside our door until we let him in. He took a very sad family and turned into one with joy again. Honey bun gives us joy during our hardest days. He is great with our children and other cat. He loves to cuddle but keeps you on your toes. He is smart and loves to explore everything. Chasing balls with the kids brings hours of laughter. Honeybun has a huge place in our hearts and is a beloved member of our family. Unfortunately we used a huge part of our resources trying to help our dog through cancer. We want to see honeybun healthy and happy. Seeing him in pain and losing his spirit is heart breaking. We want nothing more than to have him live a long happy life. Honeybun's lively personality sadly landed him with a broker femur that know needs to be amputated. This kitty has no fear and knows no bounds unfortunately he is suffering in pain and has to be confinded to keep his leg stable. He is need of an amputation to give him a chance at a full recovery and life without chronic pain. Etowah valley veterinary hospital Dr. Jull is the treating veterinary Honeybun can make any one laugh on their worst day. He love to run. His eye light up and he just goes. Honeybun makes sure to let us know if one of us is not giving him enough attention he will meow and paw until they get his ball to play with him. Honeybun knows if your sad too and just need a nuzzle on your neck to cheer you up and make you smile.
Stella

Our next door neighbor was fostering sweet Stella and her brother which afforded us a lot of time to get to know them both. To say we fell in love instantly would be an understatement. When we were given the opportunity to adopt her from the rescue organization we felt incredibly blessed. She joined our home and seemed to settle right in, cuddling and bonding with her new family. Stella sleeps in our bedroom outside of her crate at night. When attending puppy class she was awarded the "advanced relaxer" title. We now know that this may have been in part due to the pain she was in but also know that she is a lover who will curl up anywhere if her people are around. Her vast number of sleeping positions and snoring have provided great entertainment for us. We were told that THR surgery was the only option for her for both hips, plus additional expenses. To take this on feels overwhelming but we also know her fate is in our hands and didn't feel we had great options. After purchasing pet insurance for her, within a very short period of time we noticed her struggling to stand and regularly whining and writhing in pain, and biting her legs to try to relieve the pain. We immediately took her to the vet. After x-rays we discovered that she had terrible hip dysplasia at the young age of 4 months (9 out of 10). Bridger Vet Specialists, Dr. Jackson are treating Despite all the pain she is in, Stella is still the sweetest puppy that has brought great comfort and joy to our family. Stella has an irrepressible happiness and an impish love of taking our things. Her resilience and ability to share so much love despite her discomfort is truly exceptional. To have her only one week and get the sad news was challenging but we knew we didn't have a choice.
Tiger

All my family's cats have come in as rescues. even when I say "no more", my kids will bring me an animal in need and I don't have the heart to turn anyone away. The latest rescue came with some medical issues. I told my 11 yo we should turn him over to the humane society or a rescue, but those two bonded really fast. So here I am trying to figure out how to get him the medical care he needs. My youngest kiddo brought in a kitten last winter and "hid" him in his room. The two of them bonded really quickly. The kitten is just the sweetest lil baby, even in pain he doesn't lash out. The vet techs at the ER said he was sucking his own paw rather than biting any of them. With his injuries he isn't very kitten like; he doesn't run, jump or play but he will snuggle on your lap all day long. This kitten has taken us on quite a journey. With all the medical treatment up to this point I just don't have the money for the next surgery. I told my kiddo we couldn't afford it but he's so heartbroken I have to try. Dr. Owen at Yellow Creek Animal Hospital is the most amazing vet ever. He has done the best to meet us where we are and still give the kitten the best care. We started out with a broken leg requiring 2 surgeries and follow ups. It healed well but we just discovered a second issue, the growth plates in his hips are damaged so he requires another surgery. Tiger is a silly baby and a super snuggler. Even when he isn't feeling well he just wants all the love. He has bonded with my 11 year old and is "his cat". My kiddo is heartbroken that his cat needs care and he doesn't want to have to give him away to a rescue, so I am doing everything I can to get the funding together for his treatment.
Elpis

I had a third litter of beautiful German Shepherd puppies. At 8 weeks, this puppy went to her new home. The next day I received a text stating she was not keeping anything down, not food or water. I felt more comfortable bringing her back home until I could get her into the vet. I brought her to the vet, they did an x-ray and informed me she had Megaesophagus. Recommended I put her to down. Elpis makes our household a family of 7. I strongly believe she came back into my life because God knew she would be in the best hands, and well taken care of. Elpis lives with her mom and dad, her half brother, two other sisters and brother. So we now have 5 shepherds and 2 pitbulls:) We also have 3 cats. So our household is a zoo. She loves playing with her siblings. We were referred to the U of M Vet Surgery center. I have already spent $500 on these first two vet appointments. The surgery consult at the U will be $233 plus additional x-ray and blood work. Surgery is 4,500+, and we do not have the funds to pay for this necessary surgery Elpis was first diagnosed with Mega esophagus at Garrison Animal Hospital. With the recommendation to put her down, I just couldn't live with that. So I did research about this disease. My vet called me a few days later to see how puppy was doing. I went back and got further testing, underlying cause of ME was PRAA, persistent right aortic arch, which can be corrected with surgery. Referred again. Elpis is special because she is a normal 9 week old puppy other than how she has to eat. Elpis has to eat mushed food in a slurry like form while sitting upright then stay sitting up for 20-30 minutes afterwards to prevent regurgitation. She loves to chase the cats. She loves to play with socks and chew on shoes. Elpis and I have a very special bond because I am the one that feeds here.
Baby
Baby is a 6-year-old German Shepherd in Point Richmond, CA, who needs $1,400 for the surgical repair of carpal hyperextension in her right front leg.

Salima G. and her husband found Baby four years ago, as they were walking home from dinner out. Or rather, Baby found them. They saw a stray dog running in the middle of the street, and then, suddenly, she was following them home. Nobody was around to claim her, and subsequent efforts to publicize her situation, bore no fruit. And by then, their bond was a perfect one. Salima and her husband lead a very activity-oriented, outdoor life, and Baby fit right in. "We are very active and we love being out, taking hikes, swimming, working out," Salima beams. "And Baby is part of all of that. We take her to the hills in the morning, and then we take her to swim in the afternoon." Salima notes that Baby loves all these activities as much as her "parents" do. She also says that everybody loves Baby and that Baby reciprocates that love. "She is sweet and affectionate with everybody. She likes being around our families and our kids." Baby's carpal hyperextension in her right front leg causes constant pain that they are managing; but that is not a solution. Salima says that the leg must be splinted and Baby cannot use it until she has surgery. The joint is torn and until the tissue is repaired, she must refrain from weight-bearing on it. Without surgery, the leg could atrophy and at the moment, by not using it, Baby is compensating as she walks, so this could ultimately impact her other limbs. But happily, this surgery has a bright outlook and outcome: Salima says that the two surgeons she has consulted both say there is a very good prognosis. So, surgery is imperative, as quickly as possible. "We want her to be healthy again, and we know it will take a long time before she becomes the same as before, but we are prepared for the long haul. We just want the best for her." Salima's husband Is not working right now, so money is tight, a situation that is compounded by health issues that Salima is facing. Baby is a comfort to the family, as well. "She crawls over the couch or in my bed, and then when she sleeps, she snores; it's so cute and we have big laughs about it." Salima adds that Baby is also extremely smart, with an amazing personality. "We need HELP for Baby," Salima asks. Can you dig into your heart and your wallet to help Baby be the Olympic sprinter and pole-vaulter she dreams of being again?
Butterball
Butterball is a blind 5-year-old Lab Mix in Menomonee Falls, WI, who needs $1527 for emergency care.

Butterball was born blind. Then her owners dumped her at a shelter where the puppy sat for more than a month. No one seemed to want the Lab mix until Barb T. met her. She adopted Butterball on the spot. > "She is so cute, and she is very playful. I just needed to have this dog. I was lucky enough to get her," she tells Waggle. "Never in a million years did I think I'd have a blind dog." To help welcome Butterball home, Barb looked up sorts of tips to help blind dogs adapt to new places. But soon Barb realized Butterball doesn't know she's blind. "The stairs were a challenge, but she got used to that really quickly," Barb says. "All her senses are heightened; she knows when she's in front of something." The pair have been inseparable now for five years. "I was meant to have her, and she was meant to have me. It's my job to care for her and stays healthy," Barb says. So recently, when Butterball started vomiting uncontrollably, Barb raced her to Mayfair Animal Hospital. "I thought maybe she had eaten something. Then it just got worse; everything she ate, she was vomiting back up. The vet gave her some fluids and nausea medication, and that didn't work." Barb was worried, and Butterball was admitted to the hospital. "I was lost. I was really lost without her," Barb says. "I had a heavy heart. I could not fathom losing my dog at such a young age. Butterball and I bonded in such a strong way." Veterinarians ran tests and could not figure out the cause. "She did not eat anything weird. They did X-rays on her stomach trying to see if there was a blockage, they didn't see anything. The vets are talking about doing surgery to pinpoint a cause." > Barb has not physically been able to work for more than a year and depleted all her savings. She started selling her belongings to try to pay for Butterball's tests and possible surgery. Barb says it's her job to take care of Butterball, something she pledged the day she adopted her. Preston

Preston is a sweet kitten just 10 weeks old who came in with his four siblings to our shelter. He was in foster a couple weeks and all the babies are very friendly. A couple days after he came to the shelter he became very lethargic and had labored breathing. We took him to the vet who determined he has pneumonia which will require round the clock fluids, antibiotics, feeding and supporting care. Poor Preston has never been part of a family. While he did spend time in foster it's not the same as having your very own special person to sleep and cuddle with. We're hoping that with the supportive care he will get at the emergency vet, he will pull through and go on to find a loving forever home of his very own. We are a small shelter with limited financial resources during the best of times. Since COVID donations are down by 50% and we are struggling to provide even basic care. Preston is just 10 weeks old and could have his whole life ahead of him, with just a little help now. Preston is so sweet and cuddly, even on the day he became ill he was purring and snuggling with us. Like all kittens he has been very playful, and good natured. With a little financial help and some luck, we hope he will go on to have a long life full of kooky behavior that makes some lucky family smile.
