Garfield was chosen by my son right after we found out my husband was terminally ill. We wanted something that would take his mind off things and comfort him, which he did,, as much as anything could. He's always been there for my son, & for me. We adopted another cat, Soma (the black one in the photos) 4 years ago and, even though they're both male, they're best friends, they cannot be apart. We also have a dog, Muffin, who is about Garfield's size and will lay next to him and Garfield will put his head on Muffin's paws, and Muffin will lick the top of his head. Muffin won't get near Soma, but he adores Garfield.

Boudreaux is my sewer rat. I heard him in the drain on the street and after 2 hours and city services coming out finally got him out. We sent him to the shelter but I hated the thought of that tiny boy being scared so I went and got him. A few months later his blood sugar dropped and we almost lost him again. It's been about 11 years but he's my boy and I wouldn't trade him for anything.

Colors was a pregnant female, abandoned and we adopted her during a harsh winter 8 years ago. She has been a loving part of our family. We have 3 grandchildren who love her very much. She loves to play with them. We adopt strays as a way of helping with the cat population. We are diligent with getting her spayed and necessary vaccinations and check-ups. We assume she had a rough life the first few years, so we wanted to make her golden years as comfortable as possible. She has given us so much more than we could have ever given her.

Puffi was born at home and I attended her birth, so I've known her all her life. She was born April 12, 2007. She is a sweet little girl, and is the smallest in our cat family (at 5 pounds). She's being fed wet food only, since she is having issues chewing dry food. I love her a lot, and want to get her dental needs seen to.

I rescued champ 3 nights ago he was on the curb he had been hit by a car I saw him and decided to pick him up his name is champ because he’s strong he’s a champ and I believe he can make it we don’t really have much history but since he’s been here he’s been the most amazing dog ever. He loves my son and niece and the love him back I just wish to give him a home with us.

We found him at 4 weeks old he had been abandoned, we bottle fed him to save his life! Because of that we have such a bond. Kitty stays in our yard and loves hanging out with us He is so loving and sweet. If we lose him our family would be devastated because he is a family member. I need to help him!

Remy we rescued to be trained by the VA as my service dog after medical retirement from the Marines in 2011. He served me well and help me get better for years before his own retirement to be a family dog and protector of my 3 kids. He has helped keep them safe since my oldest was born. He still runs around like he's young and deserves to continue living a good life.

Bella is my fiance Kelly's "little tiny". Bella came into Kelly's life shortly after she lost her mom to a serious bout with cancer. Bella has been Kelly's world since losing her mom and has been the one person/pet Kelly can count on being there for her as Kelly's family situation hasn't been the easiest. Upon starting our relationship 6 years ago, not only did I gain a wonderful loving partner, I also gained an energetic and adorable little dog. Bella loves going on walks, visiting the dog park and chasing lizards in the back yard. What dog wouldn't? She has a little "brother" Buddy, who we rescued about 3 years ago. They love playing with each other even though it's hard for her to keep up with his pace.

Meet Loretta Sammons....to know her is to love her. Loretta joined our family in December of 2017 as a five month old Humane Society rescue. She was found on the streets of Memphis completely eaten up with mange. When we first saw her, we weren't even sure what kind of dog she was or what she would eventually look like. She was tiny, scared and just starting to grow her fur back. We now know that she is what we affectionately call a "Memphis Street Dog". The one thing we were sure of was that she needed us and we needed her. Loretta fit right in. She's the epitome of a "Good Girl" and we can't imagine our family without her. At about 8 months old, we thought she injured her leg. After a trip to the vet and a set of x-rays, we learned that Loretta has one of the worst cases our vet has ever seen of genetic dysplasia in both hips. In addition to her hips being "toast" her knees were also sliding in and out of stability. Over the course of the last year and a half, we have tried medications, supplements and injections to avoid surgery. At just two years old, she has stopped bearing weight on her right side most of the time. At our last vet appointment, x-rays showed that her lower legs were bowed out, compensating for all of her "specialness" in her hips and knees. We were sent to specialist to find out exactly what kind of hip surgery would be best. We were prepared to pay for a FMO hip surgery. An FHO, or femoral head ostectomy, is a surgical procedure that aims to restore pain-free mobility to a diseased or damaged hip, by removing the head and neck of the femur (the long leg bone or thighbone). To our surprise, we were told that she would need to have a TPLO surgery on both knees before we could even address her hips. TPLO, or tibial-plateau-leveling osteotomy, is a surgery performed on dogs to stabilize the stifle joint after ruptures of the cranial cruciate ligament (analogous to the anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] in humans, and sometimes colloquially called the same). The cost per knee is almost $5000.00. This is where we need your help. Lehman and I have good jobs, but $5,000-$10,000 is not something we can come up with anytime soon. We will do what we have to do to make this happen for our "Good Girl", but any help along the way would be most appreciated. I know some people see her as "just a dog", but to our family, she is so much more. She is friend, companion, snuggle buddy, guardian and fur baby. She loves the park and swimming and we want to make sure her future is filled with doing the things she loves. She's only two!!
