They were already full, stretched thin like so many rescues are—but when one of their incredible fosters stepped forward to help, they knew they couldn’t turn her away. Nothing could have prepared them for what they found. When transport arrived, this sweet girl wasn’t running, barking, or afraid. She was lying still. She had been shot. Twice. One bullet shattered her leg. The second tore through her chest. She was rushed immediately to the vet, where the team worked quickly to stabilize her fragile body. Thanks to the unwavering dedication of her foster and a friend who refused to leave her side, she made it safely to VSS. But the news that followed was devastating. Shaya has air and fluid in and around her chest—a life-threatening complication caused by the gunshot wound, but they are doing everything they can to save her life. Through unimaginable pain and fear, Shaya has been nothing but gentle. She trusts. She loves. Zinda Survived the Accident — Now He’s Fighting to Walk Again

Zinda was brought to Baw Baw Animal Welfare with a painfully enlarged abdomen that had been worsening for nearly two weeks. Behind his tired eyes is a life that has already endured so much. Zinda is believed to be the victim of a road traffic accident, carrying both visible wounds and hidden internal trauma. Although he is still able to urinate and defecate, he is very weak. A neurological examination revealed slow reflexes and reduced muscle control. Most concerning, his anal sphincter remains relaxed — a worrying sign of possible nerve damage caused by the accident. He also has multiple wounds on his body — painful reminders of a harsh past that no animal should ever experience. Zinda has never received routine vaccinations or consistent medical care. Only recently dewormed, he is fragile and vulnerable, now depending entirely on us to fight for his survival. Our veterinary team immediately began intensive treatment, including: Ceftriaxone (antibiotic therapy) - Dexamethasone (to reduce inflammation and spinal swelling) - Neurobion (to support nerve function) - IV fluids (Normal Saline and Dextrose) to stabilize and strengthen him Right now, Zinda needs: Continued hospitalization and close monitoring - Ongoing medications and supportive care - Diagnostic testing to better assess internal injuries - Nutritional support and wound management Recovery from neurological trauma is uncertain and requires time, specialized care, and constant monitoring. Sweet Zinda, who had already endured so much suffering in his short life, passed away last night at the hospital. When Zinda first came into the care of Baw Baw Animal Welfare, his fragile body told the story of unimaginable hardship. Believed to be the victim of a road traffic accident, he arrived with a painfully enlarged abdomen, multiple wounds, neurological weakness, and signs of possible nerve damage. Despite everything, he fought quietly and bravely. Our veterinary team began immediate intensive treatment — antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, nerve support, IV fluids — doing everything possible to stabilize him and ease his pain. For a moment, we hoped his strength would carry him through. But in the days that followed, Zinda developed severe diarrhea and began struggling to breathe. Gradually, his appetite faded. His water intake decreased. His small, tired body grew weaker and weaker despite continued hospitalization and supportive care. Last night, surrounded by the veterinary team who refused to give up on him, Zinda took his final breath. We are devastated. Though we could not save him, we are grateful that his final days were not spent alone on the streets in pain. He was warm. He was medicated. He was cared for. He was loved. In his last chapter, he knew kindness. Thank you to every single person who donated, shared his story, and kept him in your thoughts. She is an abandoned stray cat who showed up at my home wearing a collar that was too tight and frayed. I spent days gaining her trust so I could safely remove it. Since then, she has stayed close and now waits at my door every day for food, safety, and comfort. She is currently limping and often not putting weight on one of her paws. There is no visible wound, which makes me concerned about a possible injury or developing infection. She appears to be in pain and needs a veterinary exam as soon as possible to determine the cause and prevent it from getting worse. She is incredibly gentle and trusting despite what she has been through. After gaining her trust, she now comes to me every day and waits by my door. She chose to stay, and that connection means everything to me. I want to give her the safe, loving home she deserves. I have had reduced hours at work and do not have the full amount needed to cover emergency veterinary care right away. I can contribute some, but I do not have an emergency fund. I am asking for help so she can receive the treatment she urgently needs.

Chintu was brought into Baw Baw Animal Welfare after struggling to walk. He was helplessly dragging himself forward using only his front legs. We rushed him to our clinic, where we discovered he had likely been involved in a traffic accident. Although there were no visible wounds or obvious signs of trauma, the damage was far more serious than it first appeared. We believe Chintu may also be suffering from neurological injury. He is currently unable to control his urination and defecation, leaving him frightened, uncomfortable, and vulnerable. Right now, we are doing everything we can to find the root cause of his condition and provide the supportive care he desperately needs. Chintu is confused and living in pain, but he still chooses to fight every single day. He fully depends on our rescue team for the compassion, treatment, and safety he deserves. While he still has challenges ahead, we are noticing encouraging changes. He is more alert, more responsive, and showing small but meaningful improvements in his mobility. He continues to receive supportive care, monitoring, assisted hygiene, and therapies aimed at helping his body regain as much function as possible. Cases involving neurological trauma are rarely straightforward, and progress can be slow. But even small steps matter — and Chintu is taking them. He still depends on us completely. He needs ongoing medical evaluations, rehabilitation support, specialized care for his bladder and bowel management, and a safe space to continue healing. On top of that, he had no control over his urination or defecation, making him incredibly vulnerable and uncomfortable. Today, we are so grateful to share encouraging progress. Chintu’s appetite and water intake are now normal, and he is urinating and defecating regularly. These are very important signs that his body is stabilizing and responding to the care he has been receiving. His overall condition has improved, and he is now actively present in our sanctuary environment. Even more beautiful to witness is Chintu’s personality beginning to shine. Chintu has shown himself to be a lovely, playful puppy who enjoys being around his caregivers and exploring the sanctuary. Despite everything he has endured, his spirit remains bright and full of life. While he continues to receive supportive care and monitoring as we work to understand the full extent of his injuries, seeing him engaged, playful, and comfortable is a meaningful step forward in his recovery. However, Chintu’s journey is not over. Continued physical therapy (PT) will be critical in helping him rebuild strength, improve mobility, and give him the best possible chance at regaining function. Declawed Senior Cat Ryder Was Found Struggling Outside — Now He Needs Medical Care

Ryder never should have been outside. This sweet senior cat was found trying to survive on the streets with all four paws declawed — a heartbreaking and extremely dangerous situation. Declawed cats have no way to properly defend themselves from predators, other animals, or even the harsh realities of life outdoors. Being left outside in this condition is not just unfair — it’s incredibly cruel. When Adopt a Cat Foundation learned about Ryder, we immediately made space for him and brought him to safety. After everything he had already endured, the last thing he deserved was another night outside trying to survive without claws to protect himself. Once Ryder arrived, we quickly scheduled a veterinary visit to evaluate his health. A senior blood panel revealed that Ryder is suffering from hyperthyroidism, a common but serious condition in older cats that can cause weight loss, increased heart rate, and other complications if left untreated. Ryder has now started daily medication to manage the condition, but treatment doesn’t end there. He will need ongoing veterinary visits and repeat bloodwork to monitor his thyroid levels and determine whether his medication dosage is correct. On top of that, Ryder is also battling an upper respiratory infection, which he is currently receiving treatment for as he settles into his safe indoor environment. Despite everything he’s been through — abandonment, surviving outdoors while declawed, and now multiple medical issues — Ryder is safe now. He finally has a warm place to rest and people looking out for him. But his medical care comes at a cost. Sammy is 17 years old. At this stage of life, he should be spending his days curled up in a warm bed, enjoying gentle pets, and living out his golden years surrounded by love. Instead, Sammy’s life took a heartbreaking turn. Over the years, he was shuffled from home to home until he eventually ended up with a friend of the daughter of the woman who originally adopted him. Somewhere along the way, contact was lost—and so was Sammy’s safety. No one knows exactly what happened, but this sweet senior cat suddenly found himself homeless, trying to survive in a colony with eight other cats. For a cat like Sammy—friendly, gentle, and used to the comforts of a home—life outdoors was never where he belonged. After spending most of his life with people, this should not have been how his story ended. Thankfully, someone noticed him and reached out for help. Cathy’s Cats stepped in and went to bring Sammy to safety. The moment we met him, it was clear: Sammy is incredibly sweet and still loves attention. Despite everything he’s been through, he hasn’t lost his trust in people. Sammy was taken to the veterinarian for a full checkup. He was tested for diseases and received a complete senior blood panel. The good news is that overall, he is doing well. The only concern is some changes in his kidney function, which is very common in senior cats and something we can manage with proper care, monitoring, and diet. There’s also something very special about Sammy. He looks like he has \_two little noses\_. Sammy was born with a cleft palate, and someone loved him enough as a kitten to get him surgery to correct it. That surgery helped give him a chance at a normal life. Which makes it even harder to understand how, after all those years, he ended up abandoned in his old age. But that part of Sammy’s story is over now. Today, Sammy is safe in foster care, and he is so happy to be back inside where he belongs. He’s enjoying soft beds, gentle attention, and the comfort he clearly remembers and loves. Our biggest hope is that someone will step forward to give him a forever home where he can spend the rest of his days feeling cherished. Right now, we’re raising funds to cover Sammy’s veterinary care, diagnostics, senior bloodwork, and ongoing support for his kidney health as he settles into his foster home. My boy Frankie is blind in both eyes and is diabetic. He is needing go to visit again get more blood work done and to run glucose curve to determine best treatment. But I'm in tight budget barley affording his medicine and insulin shots etc. This boy means so much to me. Don't want loose him yet still young is about 6 years old. We live in motel room getting by. His mom Grace is with us. I had explained in previous section. I am currently taking him to neel vetinary hospital here in Oklahoma City. He is still struggle. Vet requires him be on royal canin which out of my budget. He is the love of my life. He makes me smile every day. He is my emotional support dog ne not with me I'm depressed. I just breaks my heart he can't see no more CC any enjoy chasing the ball or seeing birds or squirrels trying chase them. Him not able see me. I know some days he struggles but he still tries to move on. I am on tight budget struggle working 2 jobs and pay bills and his medical needs. Living in motel room can't afford get house or another apartment due to no savings used on my boy. If rather be broke just long he is in my life.

We adopted Bean in November 2020 when she was almost a year old. She was terrified at first and had to be carried inside, just frozen. We had a two-year-old, and I was hesitant, but they grew up together and truly shaped each other. We also had another rescue, Millie, who was blind and a little bossy, but they became best friends. Bean took her loss hard. I took Bean to Willamette Valley Animal Hospital. She was seen for sudden left-sided facial paralysis, decreased appetite, and lethargy. She cannot blink or move her ear. The vet suspects severe bilateral ear infections. Cleaning will likely require sedation. Ear drops caused redness and discomfort. She needs an alternate treatment plan. Bean may seem intimidating at first, but once she warms up, she acts like you’re her favorite person. She nudges your hand for pets, sleeps on her back with all paws in the air, and always “tells” on herself if she’s naughty. She’s patient and kind with my daughter, who has loved her since age 2. And when she gets the zoomies, you better watch out—she definitely zooms! I’m a single mom to my daughter and Bean.Bean’s treatment is straightforward, but I can’t afford it. She’s been a huge support, especially to my daughter since losing her dad. I went part-time to help my daughter heal.Getting the care she needs would be endlessly appreciated
