Terry Was Facing Euthanasia Until SOCKS Stepped In
Fort Walton Beach, FL • Save Our Cats and Kittens (SOCKS)
Terry’s tiny front leg never quite touched the ground. Twisted and permanently bent, it hovered awkwardly in the air as she struggled to hobble from place to place. Every step was difficult, yet somehow, this sweet girl never stopped purring. When Save Our Cats And Kittens (SOCKS) first heard about Terry, she was facing euthanasia at another organization because of her severe deformity. We couldn’t let her story end there. We welcomed Terry into our care and rushed her to the veterinarian, hoping there was a way to give her the comfortable life she deserved. After examining her, the veterinarian recommended amputating the malformed leg so Terry could finally move without pain and difficulty. It was the right decision — but also an expensive one for a small rescue like ours. Thankfully, Terry’s surgery went beautifully. Now, instead of struggling to balance on a useless limb, she’s recovering comfortably in foster care, showering everyone around her with nonstop purrs and affection. In fact, her foster mom has already fallen completely in love and plans to adopt Terry once she’s fully healed. For Terry, this is the beginning of a beautiful new chapter. But for rescues like ours, every medical emergency stretches our resources to the limit. Terry’s veterinary care totaled about $300. To many, that may not sound overwhelming, but for a small rescue juggling countless cats in need, every unexpected surgery, every emergency vet visit, and every bag of food adds up quickly. While we never hesitate to save a life, we rely on compassionate supporters to help us continue saying “yes” to cats like Terry. Today, we’re asking for your help. Broken Leg, Tick Disease, and Now Surgery — Olive Needs Critical Care

Olive’s story almost ended before it even began. A good Samaritan found her after she was likely hit by a car, and rushed her to the emergency vet where her leg was stabilized with a splint. From there, she was passed from clinic to clinic, searching for help — but no one was able to take responsibility for her care. She was in pain, injured, and out of options. And then we got the call. We couldn’t let her story end there. Now safe under our care, Olive is scheduled for orthopedic surgery. Her leg injury is serious and requires a surgical plate to repair the damage and give her any chance at walking normally again. But Olive’s situation is even more complex. She has tested positive for Lyme disease and Ehrlichia (E. canis) — tick-borne illnesses that complicate her treatment and make surgery riskier. Because of the increased bleeding risk, she cannot be spayed at the same time as her orthopedic procedure, meaning she will require additional care down the road. Right now, Olive urgently needs: \- Emergency orthopedic surgery with a plate to repair her leg - Pain management and post-operative care - A full month of doxycycline to treat her tick-borne illnesses - Ongoing monitoring due to surgical and medical risks - Boarding during recovery, as we currently have no placement available Despite everything she’s been through, Olive is very sweet — 52 pounds of pure love, soaking up every bit of kindness she’s offered. She is gentle, trusting, and still believes people will take care of her. We’re determined to prove her right. But we can’t do this alone. Between emergency surgery, medical treatment, and extended boarding, Olive’s care is costly and urgent. Saying “yes” to her meant taking on all of it — because the alternative was unthinkable. Her leg was repaired with an orthopedic plate, and she also underwent her spay procedure while under anesthesia. After everything this sweet girl has been through, seeing her finally on the road to recovery feels incredible. Olive has quickly become a favorite at the clinic and spends much of her time relaxing in the clinic manager’s office, where she gets lots of extra love, attention, and snuggles. Despite her painful past, she continues to show everyone just how gentle, trusting, and loving she is. She still has a long recovery ahead of her, including rest, monitoring, medications, and follow-up care to ensure her leg heals properly. But thanks to your support, Olive now has the chance she deserved all along — the chance to heal safely and move toward a brighter future. After undergoing orthopedic surgery to repair her leg with a surgical plate, Olive has continued to make incredible progress. At her recent follow-up appointment, her X-rays looked fantastic — so good that her veterinary team was able to remove her splint and finally take off her cone! Even better, Olive has now been discharged to a loving foster home where she is absolutely thriving. Her foster describes her as an absolute doll who loves leaning into people for affection and soaking up every bit of love she can get. And in true Olive fashion, she has already chosen her foster sibling Whale as her “boyfriend!” She’s now enjoying supervised playtime in the backyard as she continues rebuilding strength in her leg, and watching her run, play, and simply enjoy life again has been incredibly rewarding for everyone involved in her journey. Sweet Betty needs your help!

Betty was found sitting quietly at a stop sign when Castaway Critters was called to rescue her. She is only about a year old, but her body tells a much harder story. When she was found, Betty was severely emaciated, her small frame worn down from what appears to have been life as a breeder mom. She had painful bite wounds, a severe infection, and her teeth had been filed down. Her skin was inflamed with hot spots, and in her distress, she had chewed her own paw pads so badly that she could barely walk. And yet, Betty greets people with the sweetest spirit. Despite everything she has endured, she wiggles with excitement when someone comes near. Her little body tries so hard to show happiness, and her tiny underbite gives her the most endearing smile. She leans into gentle hands and looks up with trusting eyes, as if she still believes that kindness is coming. Betty is now safe, but her road to recovery will be long. She needs intensive veterinary care to treat her infections, heal her skin, manage her pain, and help her regain strength so she can walk comfortably again. For a dog so young who has already suffered so much, this care is essential to give her the life she deserves. We are asking for help to give Betty that chance. Pup, lovingly nicknamed “Pupperoni,” first came into our lives in September 2025 when his owner enrolled him in training with my husband, Tyler. Over the past several months, we trained and boarded him multiple times and grew very attached to him. About three weeks ago, his owner decided she could no longer keep him and planned to surrender him to a shelter. We stepped in immediately, brought him After worsening blood blisters on his stomach began bleeding, we brought Pup to the vet for evaluation. A fine needle aspirate revealed mast cells in one mass, raising concern for a mast cell tumor, while the blood-filled lesions may be hemangiomas or hemangiosarcomas. Surgery and biopsy are urgently needed to determine severity and remove the masses safely. Pup is one of the sweetest dogs we’ve ever met. Despite everything he’s been through, he loves cuddling close to his people, soaking up the sunshine outside, and being part of the family. He’s incredibly affectionate, goofy, and eager to please. Watching him finally feel safe and loved has made us completely fall in love with “Pupperoni.” I’m currently in CRNA school, so we are living on a single income while unexpectedly fostering Pup. Lily Was Brought In to Be Euthanized; We’re Giving Her a Chance

Lily wobbles when she walks. Born with cerebellar hypoplasia, a neurological condition that makes her unsteady, she lived a happy, loved life until her owner was placed into assisted living. Overnight, Lily lost her person, her home, and the only safety she had ever known. She was grieving and scared, and even began peeing outside the litter box — a common stress response in cats. She was brought to a vet to be euthanized, but thankfully the clinic refused. Instead, Lily spent her days crated while the office searched for help. When one of our volunteers walked in and saw Lily, she knew we at A Pathway to Hope needed to help. Once in foster, the full picture became clear. Lily arrived matted, with diarrhea, vomiting, and incontinence worse than described. She was taken to our vet, and we are now addressing her urinary inflammation, digestive issues, and other medical concerns so she can finally get the relief she deserves. Through it all, Lily remains gentle and incredibly loving. She purrs the moment someone enters the room. She adores warmth, seeks out people and her heating pad, and simply wants to feel safe again. And we intend on helping her do just that. Lily was nearly lost because she needed help, not because she was beyond saving. She’s a reminder of how quickly vulnerable animals can fall through the cracks, and how urgently our Medical Fund is needed to catch them. Lily fought to stay alive. Now she needs us to fight for her. A Pathway to Hope takes in several urgent cases every month and we can’t continue to do so, without generous donations. 3/18/26 Update Despite her challenges, Lily greets each day with the sweetest spirit. This tiny girl may be a little wobbly and have some challenges with potty habits, but her gentle personality and loving spirit make everyone who meets her fall in love. Lily is happiest when she’s close to her people, soaking up attention and affection. While she is safe and loved in foster care, Lily does have some medical needs that we are continuing to manage. Our veterinary team has discovered that she is dealing with significant dental disease, which is unfortunately very common in cats and can be quite uncomfortable. We are planning a dental procedure for Lily in the coming weeks to help relieve that pain and improve her overall comfort. For now, she is being monitored closely and enjoying the love and patience of her foster family. 5/18/26 Update Thank you to everyone who supported sweet Lily on her healing journey. We are so grateful for your love and care as Lily's journey is not quite over. She still needs to have a dental procedure, but we are hopeful all will go well and will be able to find her forever home soon. She desereves it.

Help Oreo Get the Pain Relief He Desperately Needs

Meet Oreo, a handsome ten-year-old tuxedo cat from California who has been a source of love, comfort, and emotional support for his devoted mom for nearly a decade. Now, this sweet senior boy urgently needs help. Oreo has been diagnosed with painful dental disease causing infections and inflammation, along with stomach inflammation that also requires treatment. His veterinarian has recommended urgent dental care, including possible extractions, to relieve his pain and restore his quality of life. The estimated cost for his treatment begins at $404.31 and may increase depending on how many teeth need to be removed. Thankfully, Oreo’s veterinarian is optimistic and believes he is expected to make an excellent recovery after surgery. But before that can happen, his mom needs help covering the cost of his care. With the support of a $150 grant from Paws 4 A Cure, she is still trying to raise an additional $400 so Oreo can finally receive the treatment he desperately needs. Rescued from the Roadside: Vera Needs Healing and a Second Chance

She didn’t cry for help. She didn’t run. She just sat there… on the side of a busy road, as if she had nowhere left to go. A few days ago, calls began coming in about a cat who wouldn’t move from the roadside. When a volunteer from Big Little Life Animal Rescue stopped to check, what they found was heartbreaking. Vera didn’t resist. She didn’t try to escape. She simply allowed herself to be picked up — as if she already knew this was her only chance. But once she was safe, the reality of her condition began to unfold. Vera walks unsteadily, her body not fully responding the way it should. She is missing part of her tongue — something that didn’t happen overnight, something she has been living with for a long time. Despite this, her long fur, though dirty, wasn’t completely matted… a quiet sign that someone once cared for her. Now at the clinic, Vera is facing even more serious concerns. She is vomiting, and when she arrived, her gums showed a yellow tint — a possible sign of liver dysfunction or severe infection. She is currently undergoing bloodwork, diagnostics, and receiving supportive care just to stabilize her fragile condition. We don’t yet know everything she’s fighting. But we know she has been failed before. And there’s something else Vera needs — something just as critical to her future. Vera is not yet spayed. Unspayed cats face enormous risks. They can develop life-threatening infections like pyometra, reproductive cancers, and are often driven to roam — putting them directly in harm’s way. Being unspayed may be part of how Vera ended up alone, vulnerable, and suffering on the side of a road. Spaying isn’t just a routine procedure — it’s protection. It prevents suffering before it starts. It gives cats like Vera a real chance at a stable, safe life. Before she can be spayed, Vera must first be stabilized. Her body needs to be strong enough for surgery. But that procedure is an essential part of her recovery — and part of ensuring she never ends up in a situation like this again. Despite supportive care, she continues to vomit bile, eat very little, and her mucous membranes still have a yellow tint — a sign that her body is under serious stress. What we first thought might be mostly due to her damaged mouth is now proving to be far more complicated. Her bloodwork shows concerning problems with her liver and gallbladder, and an ultrasound revealed free fluid in her abdomen. This has raised the frightening possibility of FIP (feline infectious peritonitis) — a dangerous disease that can quickly become fatal without intensive treatment. But at this time, Vera’s results do not give us a clear diagnosis, leaving us in a very difficult position: we know she is very sick, but we still need more testing to understand exactly what is happening. Vera now urgently needs repeat bloodwork, likely another ultrasound, continued supportive care, nausea treatment, and close daily monitoring. On top of her internal illness, Vera struggles every day because part of her tongue is missing. Eating is difficult, drooling is constant, and she cannot properly groom herself without assistance. She has likely been suffering silently for a long time. We are committed to getting Vera the answers and treatment she needs, but the veterinary costs continue to rise with every new diagnostic and every day of care. Please continue to help us fight for Vera. She is gentle, trusting, and depending on us not to give up on her now. 5/18/26 Update Because of your compassion and support, Vera’s story has taken a hopeful turn. When Vera was first found sitting helplessly beside a busy road, weak, jaundiced, vomiting, and unable to properly care for herself, we feared the worst. As her condition worsened and fluid was discovered in her abdomen, there was a very real concern that Vera could be suffering from FIP — a devastating diagnosis that would have meant an incredibly difficult and uncertain road ahead. Thankfully, after extensive monitoring, multiple rounds of bloodwork, biochemistry testing, ultrasounds, and supportive treatment, Vera’s doctors were able to rule out FIP. The relief we felt was enormous. Slowly, Vera began responding to treatment. Her vomiting has stopped, and while she is still healing, she is finally showing signs of strength again. Every small improvement feels huge for this gentle girl who has already endured so much. Life is still not easy for Vera. Because part of her tongue is missing, even basic daily tasks remain difficult. She eats slowly and carefully, struggling to grab food properly, and grooming herself is nearly impossible without help. Her little beard is often wet with drool, a constant reminder of the challenges she continues to face. But despite it all, Vera remains incredibly sweet, trusting, and gentle with the people caring for her. Once she is fully stable and strong enough, Vera will still need to be spayed — an important step toward protecting her long-term health and ensuring she never has to endure the dangers that vulnerable unspayed cats face on the streets. To everyone who donated, shared her story, and cared about this fragile little cat: thank you. Oh this little baby girl right here is Ohana. I’ve had her since she was just a couple months old. She came into my life when everything felt like it was falling apart. I was only 15 years old (now 29 )I always loved the movie stitch growing up, and the word Ohana has always met something very strong to me, so I knew it was the perfect name for her she’s always been such a Good girl So Loving I’ve never done something like this, but I am truly desperate and I’m reaching out for help. Ohana was recently diagnosed with a heart murmur that is slowly turning into heart failure. I have tried to keep it maintained for the last year but as of recently Ohanas cough has gotten worse. Possibly(pulmonary edema)I know he needs x-rays and bloodwork. But it’s so expensive reason I’m begging for help Me and Ohana have created this bond that is stronger than any one I’ve had in my life. She is such a beautiful soul full of life and love mostly love by just looking at her you can see the love in her eyes. She has always been by my side and has never let me down, which is why I wanna be by her side and never let her down. I am absolutely broken right now that I am financially unstable I am self-employed and I’m trying my best to do anything that I can to get a better job and get back on my feet. Molly Lost an Eye — Help Her Keep Her Future

At just 5 weeks old, Molly should be snuggled up with her siblings, learning how to play, and discovering the world around her. Instead, this tiny kitten was fighting through unimaginable pain. A concerned community member posted on social media after finding Molly with a severely infected and protruding eye. The condition was so advanced that her eye had become badly ulcerated and beyond saving. Desperate to help but unsure where to turn, they reached out online hoping someone could step in before it was too late. When our rescue saw the post, we knew we couldn’t look away. Molly was immediately brought into our care and rushed in forveterinary treatment. Due to the severity of the damage and infection, she needed an urgent enucleation surgery to remove the eye and relieve her pain. Without surgery, the infection could have spread and become life-threatening for such a tiny kitten. Despite everything she has endured, Molly is incredibly sweet and resilient. Even after surgery, she leans into affection, purrs for comfort, and is already beginning to show us her playful spirit. She may have lost an eye, but she has not lost her will to live or her ability to trust. Molly still needs continued veterinary care, medications, follow-up visits, and support as she heals and grows stronger.
