Rita

My family used to live on a farmhouse with plenty of barn cats - in 2012, one kitten in particular was so sweet and attached to me that I decided to bring her with me to college. Rita's been with me ever since! We recently made a very large move across the country, from the Midwest to Oregon. She was so brave for the entire trip, I can't bear to think that she made it all the way here for nothing. On Monday, Rita spat up a small blood clot, and later we realized there was also blood in her stool. We took her to the ER and confirmed that something in her upper GI tract is hemorrhaging. She's currently hospitalized at Bridgetown Emergency Vet in Portland, but she needs an endoscopy and quite possibly surgery to identify the source of bleeding and help get through this alive. She has so much big diva personality, stomping everywhere she goes and letting you know exactly what she thinks of everything. She loves ear rubs, playing with people's hair, and sticking her face into a freshly worn shoe. She has the most beautiful green eyes. Even though she can barely jump, she once caught a mouse out of nowhere from underneath my apartment stove. I love her so very much. The industry I work in is very unstable right now, and my salary was cut back in November to keep the doors open. I was prepared for expenses related to moving, but not for something as sudden and terrible as this to happen.
Rufus
Rufus needs urgent care for severely infected eyes

When a kind-hearted Good Samaritan went to feed a small colony of community cats, they never expected to meet Rufus. Unlike the others, Rufus didn’t shy away—he walked right up to them, purring and pressing his head into their hands, desperate for love. But what broke their heart even more was how badly he was suffering. Rufus was skin and bones, so frail and thin it was a wonder he could stand. His fur was matted and dirty from struggling to survive outdoors. But the most shocking of all were his eyes—so red, swollen, and infected they were barely open. It’s a miracle he could see anything at all. Despite it all, Rufus was unbelievably sweet—rubbing against legs, asking for pets, trusting humans. Pumpkin’s Rescue Club took him into their care. After seeing his condition, they immediately took him to the vet where he is now hospitalized and receiving intensive care. He’s being treated for malnutrition, dehydration, and painful eye infections. Pumpkin’s Rescue Club is a small rescue that helps cats like Rufus receive the care and love they need to get their second chance. Please consider donating to help them cover the cost of Rufus's treatment. Update 8/14/25 Rufus is doing great in foster care. He has energy to play and loves attention. He goes back to the vet soon for more bloodwork and to re-evaluate his eyes.

Help Save Pocahontas — Our Sweet Girl Needs Lifesaving Surgery My name is Karen, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for help saving my beloved dog, Pocahontas. Pocahontas is a 14-year-old chiweenie (chihuahua-dachshund mix) who has been my shadow, my comfort, and my family. She’s black, grey, and white — and full of gentle spunk despite her age. Pocahontas was diagnosed with mammary gland tumors, which the veterinarian confirmed as urgent and likely cancerous. She now needs surgery to remove the tumors before they grow or spread. The cost for her surgery and care is $1,883.35, and unfortunately, I’ve exhausted all options trying to come up with the funds. I live on a very limited income and have been denied by multiple assistance programs. I’m doing everything I can — including applying for help, selling belongings — but I can’t do this alone. Pocahontas is still eating, wagging her tail, and full of life. With this surgery, she has a fighting chance to stay with me longer, pain-free and happy. Penny
Will You Help Penny Get X-Rays and an Ultrasound?

Penny’s past was filled with unimaginable horror. Her front elbow and leg were badly broken but never tended to. She now walks with a permanent limp. Thankfully, Penny managed to escape her tormentors by limping across a field toward safety. After being found by a good Samaritan, she was surrendered to a shelter and then transferred to NE Ohio Greyhound Sanctuary. Penny arrived 3 years ago with stage two kidney failure, a skin infection, heartworm, and Ehrlichia, which is a tickborne illness. She's been treated for the parasites and infections, and her kidney function improved. But now she started passing blood in her urine and needs x-rays and an ultrasound at Madison Vet Hospital to diagnose the problem and provide treatment. Despite the abuse she suffered, Penny is sweet and kind and forgiving. She gets along well with all the other hounds at the Sanctuary, has a hearty appetite, isn't picky about eating her allergy diet food, likes to chew on toy bones and has become quite attached to her caretakers. Penny's soulful eyes, however, still hint at her former abuse and there are times when she seems very sad. As a registered nonprofit animal sanctuary, NE Ohio Greyhound Rescue relies on donations to pay for vet bills and medical care. They have been able to raise money for some of Penny's bills, but they need help to pay for x-rays and ultrasound. Will you please help Penny?
Shinji
Shinji is a 0 year old Unknown in Florence, SC, who needs $70 for General Check Up.

One of the patients I deliver food to gave me this cat. He said that it seemed like a miracle the cat would wake up every morning. I took off work early to get supplies for the cat. When I returned, he told me I should take the cat because he thought I'd be able to care for it better than he can. I named him Shinji and took him home with me. I am not sure what his wrong with Shinji, I want to get a general veterinarian check up, then go into t he more pressing details after we get a proper examination. However it is clear that he is malnourished and there is something wrong with his eye. My Grandfather believes it's a tumor of some kind, which could cost money I don't have. Shinji has been very sweet and kind from the moment I picked him up. Despite his frail condition and poor eyes he is full of love. He is always purring whenever I'm around and loves to eat. My grandfather, who I live with, has outright REFUSED to assist or help the cat because 'he doesn't want to.' I recognize the futility in fighting with him, but at the very least I want to do what I can for him before I have to look for a forever home for him.

I adopted Craig off of Craigslist when I was in college and he quickly became family to me. I love him so much that I moved out into my own apartment to be able to give him the best living space! Since before Craig was 1 year old, he has had skin issues. It started as one hotspot, then grew to him scratching his head and neck to no end and completely licking all of the fur off of his stomach and legs. He has been tested and treated for so many things to no avail. He continues to scratch and lick despite being on antibiotics and anxiety meds. Craig is so special because he Craigy. Everyone who meets Craig loves him. He is such a sweet guy with a tough outside appearance. Craigy loves to cuddle with me and his family when he knows he can trust them. Although he doesn’t play so much anymore, Craigy would love to play with his tunnel and treat dispenser. He is the sweetest boy and I want to see him healthy again. This issue has been going on for so long, I no longer have funds to help Craig. Life continues to demand more financially, and I want to be able to have Craigy seen by a vet until we can solve this issue. I have already spent thousands but it’s not enough until he is healthy
Peach
Three Legs, One Purr-fect Peach

At just 7 weeks old and weighing only 1.12 lbs, little Peach has already endured more pain than any baby animal should. She was brought to Animalluvr’s Dream Rescue through a local shelter with a severely swollen front leg, unable to walk or bear weight. Her condition was critical — but she never stopped fighting. Veterinary exams and radiographs revealed the heartbreaking truth: Peach was suffering from a large abscess, a broken leg, and osteomyelitis — a serious bone infection that had already caused irreversible damage to her elbow joint. The only way forward for Peach is a difficult but necessary one: amputation of her front left leg. It’s the best chance she has at a life free from constant pain. But despite everything, Peach continues to amaze. She eats on her own. She purrs when touched. She looks at her caretakers with eyes full of trust and quiet resilience. This tiny kitten has the heart of a lion. Peach is a survivor, and with the support of compassionate animal lovers, she can heal — and thrive. Beans was surrendered to Suncoast Animal League by an English Bulldog breeder at 3 months old because of his genetic issues. I am a medical foster for the shelter and fostered this cutie while we had him assessed by our specialists. At that time, he was deemed a hospice case and we were told he wouldn't make it to his first birthday. He is now 2 1/2 years old and living a full fun life. Beans was born with scoliosis, spinal bifida, shortened spinal cord syndrome, hydrocephalus, rotary nystagmus, shallow hip sockets and dwarfism. He is a patient of neurologist, Dr Kimura at Blue Pearl Specialty hospital. He is assessed about every 6 months for mobility, pain, neurological function so that I am providing the best care so he can live his best life. Beans is a special little guy because everyone he meets falls in love with his little squish face. He is a certified therapy dog visiting schools, hospitals and is part of a reading program at our local library. He is a shelter ambassador and attends special events to promote awareness for rescue and special needs dogs like him. Providing Beans with a quad cart for his mobility to be used while he is out meeting kids or at shelter events would mean the world to me. He is a silly & sassy boy who brightens the day of everyone he meets. This cart would help him continue to live a full comfy life
Toffee
Toffee Was Found Abandoned, Starving, and With a Broken Leg — Help This Heartbroken Kitty Get the Life-Saving Care He Desperately Needs

Toffee came to us late one night, tucked into himself like he was trying to disappear. He had a broken leg, a body starved thin beneath his matted fur, and eyes full of heartbreak. Abandoned and alone, he looked too tired to keep going, too confused to understand why he’d been left behind. And for a while, he simply gave up. We call it Broken Heart Syndrome. It's not officially diagnosed in animals, but we see it all the time. Pets like Toffee lose their home, their people, and their sense of safety, and their spirit just fades. The night he arrived, he didn’t eat or drink, barely moved, and stared out as if waiting for someone who never came back. But little by little, Toffee is responding to care. He’s begun to eat again. He lets us wrap him in blankets, accepts slow strokes on his head, and rests more peacefully each night. He’s now on medical treatment for his injuries, and with your help, he’ll also get the proper treatment for a broken leg, pain relief, and comfort he needs to fully recover— both body and soul.
