Fiona
Fiona's Fragile Fight: Help Fiona Overcome Her Painful Past

At only 1-2 years old, Fiona's already been through so much. When ThisIsHouston first saw videos of her last week, her sad eyes and tail tucked tightly between her legs broke their heart. Despite her fearful and fragile state, they knew they had to help her. ThisIsHouston offered to take Fiona in, but she went missing before they could reach her. Volunteers searched everywhere, asking anyone they could find, but no one had seen her. Just when they thought they'd never see her again, a kind-hearted Good Samaritan spotted her on Tuesday and reached out to ThisIsHouston. Fiona was finally found and brought safely to the ER for a full assessment. She’s in rough shape—severely dehydrated, covered in painful skin issues, and her abdomen was painfully swollen. X-rays revealed she has ingested foreign material, including bones, which have been troubling her system. But Fiona is a fighter. She ate well for the ER staff and her stomach should be able to handle the bones without complications, but she's not out of the woods yet. The medical bills are stacking up as the ER continues to monitor her condition and provide the treatment she needs. Your donation can help cover her ER visits, treatments, and long-term care as she recovers from both the physical and emotional scars of her past. Update 3/21/25: Fiona was discharged from the ER and is now in foster care. Her skin is already showing some improvement! On top of that, she is really coming out of her shell and showing her sweet personality. She is enjoying being loved and cared for. Update 3/28/25: We are so excited to share that Fiona tested heartworm negative! Heartworms are extremely common in Texas so this is extremely exciting news! Her hair is slowly growing in as well. Fiona's personality continues to shine. Her fosters say she's such a happy and wiggly girl and never has any complaints. We are so happy that she is doing so well! Update 4/25/25: Fiona's fur has nearly all grown back, revealing the soft, beautiful coat she was always meant to have. She's no longer mangey, and she's starting to look — and act — like the vibrant, healthy pup we always knew she could be. Just recently, Fiona underwent her spay surgery, another big milestone on her road to recovery. She handled it like a champ and is bouncing back with her signature gentle resilience.
Lumi
Lovebug Lumi Needs Help Recovering from Heartbreaking Leg Injury

Lumi, at just a year old, sat at the shelter for almost a week with a horrific leg injury. Her leg was infected, broken, and had puncture wounds. Poor Lumi also had horrible ear infections. The shelter workers were just heartbroken, unable to bear the idea of euthanizing this total lovebug due to her worsening condition. She was marked as "rescue only" and thankfully, Saving Hope Rescue took her into their care. The rescue quickly went to get Lumi from the shelter and to their vet when they heard her fever had begun to climb, indicating the infection was taking over. Lumi needed help urgently. She needed IV fluids, medication to help fight both pain and infections, thorough bloodwork, and an amputation. There was no saving this leg. Lumi's surgery went beautifully. Her mood was immediately better, which is seen often with amputee animals. Sometimes they know before we do that their limb has to go. They do not mourn or grieve their loss, they just go play, finally able to do what their heart desires pain free. Lumi is just extraordinary and her caretakers have already fallen in love with her. Sweet Andi’s Journey: A Lap Cat Worth Saving

Andi’s life before rescue was filled with hardship. She was found wandering an apartment complex, alone and searching for food and a safe place to be. No one knows how long she had been struggling to survive, but one thing was clear, this sweet girl had been abandoned. Andi’s gentle nature made it impossible to turn her away, and thankfully, Best Friends Furever stepped in to help. When Andi came into Best Friends Furever's care, it was clear she was in pain. Her eye was badly injured and needed to be removed. She also had severe dental disease that required immediate attention. Thanks to Glade Valley Veterinary Clinic, Andi underwent surgery and is finally on the road to recovery. Through it all, Andi has remained the most loving and easy-going cat. She’s a lap cat through and through—calm, cuddly, and full of quiet joy. She adores affection, gets along beautifully with other cats, and is wonderful with kids. Now that her pain is behind her, her personality is shining brighter than ever. But Andi’s care came with steep medical bills. Cali's Comeback: From Crisis to Comfort

When Cali was found wandering the streets, she was in heartbreaking shape—filthy, severely matted, and clearly in pain. Her teeth were so rotten she could barely eat. She had been suffering for a long time. She was brought to the local shelter, but her condition was dire. That’s when Pooch Savers Rescue stepped in and knew they had to give her a fighting chance. Cali was rushed to the vet for a full evaluation, spay surgery, and bloodwork. The results were alarming—her infection levels were so extreme, the vet initially assumed she had pyometra, a life-threatening uterine infection. But after surgery and closer examination, it became clear: the infection was entirely from her mouth. Her vet, with over five decades of experience, said he had never seen a white blood cell count that high from a dental infection. Cali’s mouth was in horrific condition. Her gums were necrotic and rotted down to the bone. She had to undergo multiple dental procedures and ultimately had every single tooth removed. But this strong girl never gave up. Despite the pain, she remained gentle and trusting, as if she knew help had finally arrived. Thanks to the expert care and her incredible resilience, Cali is finally feeling better. She can now eat wet food with far less pain, and her tail is starting to wag again. Her journey has been long and expensive, but she's come so far. 2012, six months after my first girl at almost 16 year old sweet Bessie passed away, I finally decided upon suggestion to honor her by saving another life. I didn't know it, but scrolling on Facebook led me to the cutest, sweetest face I have ever seen. I decided right then she would be mine. Two days later (after driving to Long Island from Manhattan 3 days after Hurricane Katrina), she was. Rizzo for the second or third time has a UTI. Previously antibiotics worked quickly, but not this time. My wonderful vet at Brooklyn Veterinary Group wants to go ahead with x-rays and what not with an estimated cost of $326 to $726. Rizzo and I are in love. Of all the people in the world, she is my favorite and boy does she love her daddy!She loves to run and play at our dog park, can sit in the sun for hours at a time soaking up the rays. Raised by two male cats, she is the most gentle, sweet baby one can imagine. I love my Rizzo baby. As a Certified Nurse Assistant living paycheck to paycheck in NYC, this is a very hard emergency expense for me to handle. It's breaking my heart. We didn't learn about pet health insurance until she was too old for acceptance.
Frenchie

My sister had bought Frenchie from a breeder and after only a couple of months, her husband demanded she get rid of her because she wasn't a "manly" dog. My mom luckily took Frenchie in and when I moved to VA, she told me I could take Frenchie with me. We drove across the county together and started a new life together. She's loved by residents in my complex and loves coming to work with me. Frenchie was recently diagnosed with oral malignant melanoma and while we did have the tumor removed before it could spread, her doctor recommends an extensive surgery that will require removing part of her jaw bone. It will help reduce tumor regrowth and potentially give her more time with us. We are looking for help to cover the cost of her surgery so we don't loose her so soon. Frenchie has been with me since she was a puppy and she's the first dog that has been "mine." She loves everyone she meets and just wants to snuggle with you on the couch. So many people have been heartbroken to hear about her diagnosis and it's shown me just how much of an impact she makes on others. Financially we have been struggling due to the cost of the tumor removal and biopsy as well as other unexpected expenses like car repairs, our rent increasing and needing mental health services. If we are even able to get a small portion, we would be beyond grateful!

House Fire Survivor Found After 2 Months—This Miracle Kitty Needs Your Help

After a devastating house fire broke out almost two months ago, this sweet 7-year-old cat named Ivory was presumed dead. She was finally found living alone in the ruins of her former home, severely emaciated, weighing only 5.9 pounds, weak, missing her tail, and fighting on her last leg to stay alive. Her elderly owner hasn’t been seen since, and the apartment was condemned. But miraculously… Ivory survived. She was at a high risk of euthanasia due to her declining health until A Pathway to Hope stepped in. They immediately rushed her to the vet and are getting her the urgent medical care she needs. She’s currently being syringe-fed baby food and churros, and comes to the kennel door seeking attention, head-bunting and purring. She’s too frightened to eat on her own unless someone is with her, offering love, safety, and encouragement. But once she feels comforted, she eats with a strong appetite. With your help, we can give Ivory the chance she’s fought so hard to earn. 5/9/25 Update: Following her visit to a specialist, Ivory began treatment for suspected IBD or lymphoma. With your help, she’s responding well to steroids and B12. Her appetite has improved, her strength is returning, and she’s even made a best friend—her special needs foster buddy, Moose.
