Chewy is a purebred Chocolate Yorkie, named after Chewbacca. My grandkids had him for two years before life moved them on, and he’s been my loyal sidekick ever since. He’s a tiny watchdog with a huge heart, filling our quiet home with love, laughter, and tail-wagging joy. This is an emergency. A fast-growing tumor was found on Chewy’s rectum at Wasilla Veterinary Clinic. He’s in pain, scooting constantly, and now there’s bleeding. Just today, he stopped eating and drinking. We’re heartbroken and urgently need help to get him the care he deserves. Chewy’s a tiny genius in a fur coat. He loves snow, chases cats from the yard like it’s his full-time job, and alerts us when the mailman or anyone else dares to approach. Leave anything lying around-he'll take it. He senses when I’m down and always gives me snuggles, and even knows the sound of any snack bag from three rooms away! He's smart, loyal, full of sass, and we couldn’t love him more. My husband has Parkinson’s, and we’re both retired with no emergency savings. Chewy is our comfort and joy. It breaks my heart to see him in pain. I just want to help him heal and live. Toast was found outside in the Lagrange area of Toledo. He at first appeared to be feral, but I gained his trust by feeding him daily and providing him blankets on my porch and talking to him. I was able to start petting him over the weeks that I fed him. One day I just picked him up and brought him inside because I knew he couldn’t go on longer outside with his conditions. Toast was matted, dirty, had burrs stuck in his fur, his tail is broken, he limps from leg injury, he has inflamed intestines & a mass that needs biopsied which costs $1000-2000. I need 25% down payment to then make monthly payments. I’ve already spent around $600 on treatments at community pet care clinic, dr reed treated him. Toast needs help. Toast is a very very sweet boy. He was thought to be feral but I’ve earned his trust and he is so loving. He has spirit and a will to live. He loves food, he loves pets. He purrs and gives kisses. I love toast. He’s a young cat and deserves a chance at a good life in a safe home. I’m a young woman working full time dealing with my own health issues & taking care of my pets. I make ends meet but do not have the means to afford large vet bills at this time. But toast deserves a chance.

Lulu came into my life 2 weeks before Covid shut everything down. As a disabled senior, I was thrilled to have another heartbeat in our wee home. Lulu is a rescue, a Jack-Chi mix, 10 years old and 15 pounds. We live in apartments bordered by ponds, parks, and woods full of wildlife. It's her job to patrol the wilderness of our common yard out our front window. Lulu needs a good dental check-up for a bad tooth that's causing her to restrict her eating, even softened foods. I'll get her teeth cleaned, too, to help her health and suspect she may need a tooth pulled. We go see the lovely folks at Berkshire Veterinary Hospital in Pittsfield, MA. Lulu loves almost all humans & her BMF Oliver (my Grand-doggie, a Chi-Weenie, also a rescue), but otherwise acts like she hates other dogs until she gets know them. She spent the first 18 months of her life on the street, so I'm extra patient as she learns to trust and feel safe. She's too smart for her own good, adventurous, and often very quirky. She cracks me up! I am a disable senior, living in public housing, slowly saving for a car. Lulu is my companion animal, my fur-baby, my little mixed blessing, my roomie, and a big part of my old heart.

Mabel Will Melt Your Heart!

At NE Ohio Greyhound Rescue, a sweet Beagle named Mabel is suffering. Her soft, melting gaze barely masks her unspeakable pain. And yet, this ailing Beagle is 21 pounds of pure love! Sweeter than sweet and surprisingly well-mannered, she never barks and gets along easily with the other dogs at the rescue. She knows her name, absolutely adores snuggling and being held, has a lusty appetite, and takes her medications like a champ. Two years ago, Mabel was found as a stray and placed in an overcrowded shelter where she was at high risk for euthanasia given her advanced age and assorted maladies. She's been living at the Sanctuary ever since, was treated for heartworm disease, had surgery to repair a very large hernia, had rotting teeth removed, and she was spayed. However, Mabel's lymph nodes have suddenly enlarged, and they need to perform a needle aspiration to diagnose her illness. ACF Animal Rescue received an urgent call for help regarding a puppy in need. When they arrived, they found a litter of fragile puppies, their tiny bodies trembling with fear. But one little soul, in particular, needed urgent help. Teddy had a deep wound on his head, likely from blunt force trauma, yet despite his pain, he held on, fighting to survive. The rescuers scooped them all up, wrapped them in warmth, and brought them to safety. At first, they were scared, their small bodies shaking in shock, not expressing interest in food despite their small frames. But as the night passed, something beautiful happened. By morning, they had finally relaxed, eaten every bite of food, and curled up, knowing they were safe. Teddy has already shown incredible resilience and he is healing. His face wound is improving, and for the first time in his young life, he’s surrounded by love and care. His siblings are growing stronger too, each day bringing them closer to the happy, playful pups they were meant to be. Now, they just need your help to continue their journey. Tiny Kitten Desperately Needs Help Battling Megaesophagus

Miss Grey has faced more challenges in her short life than most could imagine. Rescued from a heartbreaking hoarder’s property in West Virginia, she was just one of many cats and kittens struggling to survive in unspeakable conditions. The house was falling apart with missing deck boards and an infestation of giant spiders. There were abandoned cars and trash strewn everywhere. The cats were living off rusty trays filled with stale kibble. One by One Animal Advocates was doing their best to aid the cats on this property. They saw Miss Grey and her three siblings in a box, so young they still needed to be bottle fed. The rescue had absolutely nowhere to take them, but knew they couldn’t leave these incredibly susceptible, vulnerable kittens there as the cat colony was sick and dying. Safe and under their care, Miss Grey was the most enthusiastic eater but was vomiting up food consistently and only half the size of her siblings. They took her to the vet for an evaluation where she was diagnosed with generalized megaesophagus, warranting critical need for specialized care. This condition, likely congenital, causes her esophagus to function improperly, making it difficult for her to eat. She requires meals prepared as slurry and must eat in an upright position to allow gravity to help her digestion. Miss Grey has already undergone vet evaluations and X-rays, and while her condition cannot be cured, it can be managed with ongoing care. Despite her challenges, she is a sweet and resilient soul. She needs high-quality food, a specialized feeding chair, and regular follow-ups to monitor her progress. We cannot do this without your help. Help Violet Find Relief and Love in Her Journey to Recovery

Today, a tiny pup named Violet was found by animal control, suffering from unimaginable pain. Weighing only 8 pounds, her little body is covered in scabs from both demodex and sarcoptic mange. As if this wasn't heartbreaking enough, she's also coated in a purple substance, likely a livestock spray someone applied in a misguided attempt to soothe her raw and hurting skin. Every inch of her small body shows signs of irritation, and she appears to be in constant pain—even with the slightest movement. Violet's journey to recovery is just beginning, but she urgently needs your help. She has been admitted to Blue Pearl ER for immediate hospitalization and medical care. The road ahead will be long, but with the right treatment and love, we know she can heal. Update 3/28/25: Violet has made incredible progress and is now thriving in a loving foster home where she is truly experiencing the care and comfort she deserves. Violet is now a beloved girl who’s living her best life—she even has matching pajamas with her foster momma! They cuddle up together in bed, and it’s clear that Violet’s heart is healing as much as her body. The love and affection she’s receiving is helping her regain her confidence and joy! Violet continues to receive medicated baths and is almost purple free! She had a vet recheck and her bloodwork is steadily improving. While she still has a long journey ahead, it’s clear that Violet is getting stronger and healthier every day. Update 4/8/25: It’s hard to believe it’s already been nearly three weeks since little Violet came into ThisIsHouston's care. When she first arrived, she was a heartbreaking sight—her fur stained purple, her spirit low, and her tiny body clearly in distress. But today? She’s a whole new pup. Violet is receiving the medical treatment and tender loving care she so desperately needed. She’s no longer purple. No longer suffering. No longer unloved. And no longer unrecognizable. With the right meds, nourishing food, and a safe place to heal, Violet is finally getting to be the happy, spunky little dog she was always meant to be. Her skin still has some healing to go, but she has made tremendous progress! They've also learned more about her—turns out she’s not getting any bigger, so she may be a little Chihuahua mix! And the best news? She’s been catching the eye of some potential adopters lately. Once she’s spayed, she’ll be ready to find her forever family. Update 4/24/25: Today, Violet looks like a completely different dog. Her once patchy, irritated skin is now starting to grow fur, and her eyes shine with new life. Healing from such an extreme case of mange doesn’t happen overnight. While her fur has come a long way, she's still waiting on that final stretch of skin healing — and she’s almost there! With every week, Violet grows stronger, more confident, and more radiant. Update 5/2/25: Today was a major milestone for Violet — it was spay day! This step brings Violet one step closer to finding her forever home.

From Suffering to Safety: Help Heal a Survivor of Dog Fighting

Grits was found found lying motionless on the side of the road. At first glance, it looked like he had been hit by a car. But when North Star Rescue took him to the vet and took a closer look, the heartbreaking truth was revealed. This wasn’t just a single accident. This was a lifetime of suffering. His body tells the story of the life he was forced to endure. Puncture wounds cover him—old scars layered over fresh ones, proof of the endless battles he had been thrown into. His mouth is so swollen with infection that he can't even eat. The damage to his body is unspeakable, his pain unimaginable. And yet, despite it all, he still fights. Not because he wants to, but because he was taught to. Thankfully though, someone stopped. Someone decided to care. A Heartbreaking Past, A Bright Future: Let’s Give Monty the Love He Deserves

Monty’s life has been full of hardship, but despite everything, he’s never given up on love. For years, Monty was a loyal companion, staying near the home where he was abandoned, waiting for a family that never came. He’s never known the comfort of a warm bed or the simple pleasure of curling up on a couch. Instead, he lived as a stray, enduring the harsh realities of life outside. At some point, Monty was struck by a car. His right rear leg bore the brunt of the impact, leaving him with a healed fracture, and signs of changes to his bones in his chest. Still, he persevered. He’s been diagnosed with heartworm and Lyme disease, and he has severe demodex mange covering his entire body. There’s also a potential eye issue that may require specialist care. Monty was rescued, and he’s been receiving the critical care he desperately needs ever since. He lost his appetite, so a feeding tube was placed, and he’s been fighting dehydration with IV fluids. Despite all his struggles, he’s shown small improvements every day, but the road ahead is still long. Monty deserves a chance to know what it feels like to be loved, to feel safe, and to experience the comfort he’s never had. ThisIsHouston is doing everything they can to help him heal, but they need your help. Update 2/20/25: Monty is such a great boy! He’s made some wonderful progress, though his skin still has a long way to go. It’s heartwarming to see him getting spoiled and understanding what care feels like.
