Auggie

We (Murphy's Paw Rescue) pulled sweet AUGGIE from the Bridgeport Animal Shelter in late September. During our visit at the shelter, we realized her chances of finding a loving forever home through the shelter system would be very slim. But something about her told us she would really shine in a foster setting, where we could help highlight just how wonderful she is! On her way out of the shelter she began limping. Although we hoped it was nothing major, we knew in our hearts she was going to need more than just routine vet care. Her first vet visit revealed even more than we anticipated. Not only was it determined that she had a torn ACL, but she had quite a long history associated with her microchip. Her microchip revealed that she was confiscated by police, found all torn up with open wounds. From that moment on, her life has included a long list of "adopters" who dumped and abandoned her at least four times within the last few years. It's gut wrenching to know what she has been through...and it's amazing how resilient she is, and how her personality remains so soft, trusting and loving. Auggie is not a candidate for rehabilitative methods, and her tear requires extensive ACL surgery. She is scheduled with Dr. White at Small Animal Surgical Service of CT right after Thanksgiving. She will also have her eye growths removed during that procedure. The estimated cost is $4,400-$4,800. It's impossible to predict what's ahead once we commit to saving a dog. Auggie has gone through so much, and while she still has to endure surgery and recovery...her future is so bright. This is a huge financial hurdle, but we cannot fail her like so many others have.
Penny
Penny is a 7-year-old Hound in Geneva, OH, who needs $382 for Spay Surgery and Complete Dental.

Penny’s past was filled with unimaginable horror. Her front elbow and leg were badly broken, but never tended to. She now has a permanent limp and degenerative arthritis. Thankfully, Penny managed to escape her tormentors by limping across a field toward safety. After being found and testing positive for heartworm, she was transferred to our Sanctuary. Despite the abuse she suffered, Penny is sweet and kind and forgiving. She gets along well with all the other hounds at the Sanctuary, loves to sunbathe when the weather permits, likes to chew on toy bones and has become quite attached to her caretakers. Penny's soulful eyes, however, still hint at her former abuse at times and we know that she's a deep, complicated soul. If ever there was a hound that had all the cards stacked against her, it's Penny. She never gets a fair shake medically and everything that can happen seems to happen to Penny. Her heartworms were resistant to drugs and Penny spent the year going through 2 complete rounds of treatments and injections. She's allergic to every animal protein and needs to eat a very specially formulated food. Penny also suffers from false pregnancy symptoms and painful heat cycles and now that she's finally cleared for surgery, we need to spay her and give her a complete dental. Because she also has stage 1 kidney disease, keeping her teeth clean is very important. Dr. Tom Zulandt, owner of Madison Vet Hospital has been treating Penny since her arrival over a year ago. While we've raised the funds for her prior heartworm treatments and other medical needs, we need to ask for help with Penny's spay surgery and dental. As a registered non-profit rescue, we rely on donations to pay for vet care. Please give Penny the future she deserves!

Before Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge saved Joseph, his life was a horror show. Joseph arrived at an animal hospital, suffering in unimaginable pain. He was so neglected his wounds were infested with maggots. "Can you imagine the agony he must be feeling? On top of that, itchy fleas covered his entire body, causing even more discomfort. His fur is matted and tangled, with feces and urine stuck to him. His painful, infected ears have caused him to develop a head tilt," Amy H., with the rescue group, tells Waggle. The rescue says they're taking over Joseph's emergency care after the animal hospital convinced Joseph's family to surrender him. Now, the nonprofit needs your help to pay for his desperately needed medical treatments. "Joseph's condition is devastating," Amy says. "This poor dog deserves so much better. Guido found me when I was walking to the store. I saw a little grey & white kitten with HUGE paws. I asked & a man said a truck drove down the street & threw a box of kittens out the window! How could someone do that to kittens! I looked down as he was rolling over on my foot meowing with his big thumbs. He has thumbs bc he is a Hemingway cat & Guido is what my parents called us as babies. Guido is the man of the house & everyone knows it. Much of his life he was indoors & outdoors. He made friends wherever he went & he went a lot of places! Bloomington, Indianapolis, Chicago. He would even hang out in the lobbies with the door guys in Chicago. Guido knows how to sit, shake, hi-five, fetch, & knows it is time to come inside when I give him to the count of 3. 1,2, in comes Guid. Guido is so smart. Sometimes maybe too smart for his own good. When he talks to me, I joke "Guido pls use your words!" One of my favorite stories was when I lived in Woodruff Place & from my window, I saw Guido about to cross the road. Immediately I got worried & watched, but Guido stopped & literally looked both ways before crossing the road to come home. Needless to say I was a proud cat mom! Guido turned 14 this year! We went for a check up and had a blood test, which came back perfect.. Soon after, he became lethargic & started rapidly losing weight. I took him to Indy Paws & found out he had lost 8lbs in 2 months. Dr. McGovern said it could be IBS, which is manageable with diet and medications or cancer. We need a full body ultrasound & tissue biopsy to know Guido's diagnosis. Last year my father died of cancer. I'm proud to take on his business & carry on his legacy, but it has been difficult to pay bills. Getting this test done will tell me, meds & diet or end of life care. I don't want him in pain if I'm losing my 2nd favorite guy to cancer.

The Toby Project provides free spay and neuter, by appointment only, for feral cats brought to us by registered 501C3 nonprofit TNR ( Trap, Neuter, Release) rescue groups in New York City. We've set a goal to raise $2,000, which will cover the cost of 16 cat sterilizations each month. By reaching this goal, we can ensure that more feral cats receive the care they need, helping to control their population and improve their overall well-being. Each year, approximately 6,000 cats taken to municipal shelters in New York City are killed simply because there are not enough homes to account for the overwhelming number of cats in need. This intolerable problem exists because the City's uncontrolled stray population reproduces naturally -- and too many pet owners allow their cats to breed without contemplating the consequences. Sterilization is essential when it comes to managing the population of feral cat communities. Hi my name is Briana and I’m a 24 year old living on my own, about a month ago I adopted a female adult dog who was abandoned at my place of work by her previous owner. Instead of staying at the pet day care for a short time to return home, she was left there alone and confused for about six months. Then her former owner legally abandoned her and I could bring her home. ❤️ Sheba came into my home feeling sad and afraid. After a bit she has become my shadow! She never wants to leave her. She doesn’t want to be abandoned again. She is amazing with 2 sweet kitties! She is very friendly with everyone and animal that I’ve introduced her to. Sheba is an 8 year old German Shepherd with the sweetest purest soul. We are not too sure about the details of her past, whether she was in an accident, suffered some kind of injury, or just has a bad case of arthritis. She has a severe limp on her upper right arm. I have been taking care of her and trying to provide the proper care she needs to live out the rest of her days being happy and loved The vet says she’s in good health but has unfortunately tested positive for heart worms. The cost of her needed treatment plan is little more than I can handle on my own. Please consider donating so that we can get the proper care needed for my sweet Sheba! Thank you! Mabel

Mabel was found as a stray and placed in an overcrowded shelter where she was at high risk for euthanasia given her advanced age, heartworm positive status and large, distended belly. Not much is known about her past, but it’s evident that she never received the care that she needed. Sweeter than sweet and surprisingly well mannered, Mabel never barks, and gets along easily with the other dogs here. Bright as a button, she already knows her name, absolutely adores snuggling and being held, has a lusty appetite, and takes her medications like a champ. Mabel’s soft, melting gaze barely masks her unspeakable pain. And yet, this ailing Beagle is 25 pounds of pure love! Mabel has heartworm disease, a tennis ball-sized inguinal hernia, allergies, upper respiratory infections, advanced dental disease, ear infections, intestinal parasites and anemia. Her liver is also showing signs of stress, most likely from her heavy parasite load. She's started treatments and her eyes are brighter and her energy level is improving. She's always ready for attention, now. As intimidating as these various conditions sound, the good news is that all of this is fixable! It will take many, many months, but Mabel has a good chance of living a long life if she continues to receive the care she needs. The most pressing issue now is clearing her of heartworm. She will be retested in 6-7 months and if the treatments worked, she'll be ready for her surgeries. We are a non-profit animal sanctuary that provides high quality, lifetime care for severely ill animals, like Mabel, that have no other options. Bear
Bear is a 4-month-old Domestic Long Hair Cat in Indianapolis, IN, who needs $300 for Eye Removal.

My mom found two kittens with very severe eye infections back in July and took them in to care for them. Although we were told putting them down would be the best option, we believed they had enough spunk to make it and they’re still as spunky as ever 4 months later! But now they both need their bad eyes removed (Bear needs both, Monty needs one). Bear is a fun, unique little guy. He doesn’t have any sight left but still loves life, most especially climbing things. He is a little shyer than his brother Monty but is always happy and purring just being around people. He often will spin around in circles like he is chasing his tail until he gets dizzy and falls down. We definitely think it’s a coping mechanism for being completely blind, either an a compulsion or as a way to entertain himself. Either way, it’s one of a kind just like him. At our most recent vet visit at West Michigan Veterinary Clinic, we realized both of these brothers, Monty and Bear, will need their bad eyes removed in order to live healthy lives free from infection. Bear’s case is worst with him needing both eyes removed. My mom is in her mid-80s and lives on social security benefits with not much wiggle room for emergencies like this and I’m a full-time student living on loans. We are hoping to rehome these guys together after they recover from their surgery. The cost for Bear alone is estimated to be up to $800.
Spruce
Spruce is a 7-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog in Orem, UT, who needs $2,000 for Cystotomy.

I researched traits and qualities in the dog I wanted. I chose a Bernese Mountain Dog to be my buddy and hiking companion. The breeder actually gave personality tests so match dogs with owners. Spruce was my boy and it has been a perfect match. At the time I got him, I was going through a very difficult setback in my life. I can actually say that Spruce saved my life and now it is my turn. Spruce and I are glued at the hip. I rarely go anywhere without him. He is smart and cute. We have a special communication between us. It is just Spruce and I. He welcomes anyone I bring into my circle and is always very excited to see them. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body, but is always welcoming. I almost look at Spruce as being more human than dog because he is so intuitive. All of his antics make me smile: the way he holds up his paw when he wants something, the way he lays his head on my shoulder when we go for drives, the way he puts his chin on my bed and breaths hard to wake me when he needs to go out. He is the one who leads when we go on walks and communicates which way we go. Spruce has had the needed surgery once. Here we go again. It is a genetic condition that causes bladder stones. They are painful and could cause blockage. This is a life saving surgery. Frustratingly there is a medication that could prevent them from forming, but the pill that used to cost 1.32 now costs 30.00 per pill. Spruce has good years left. He needs surgery. Been through this surgery once. It cost me my savings. I learned I need to see a nutritionist to formulate food that can possibly prevent this from happening again. The consult and ultrasound has already cost me almost $1,000. I need my buddy to live his full life.
