Lucy

I rescued Lucy from the LASPCA where she had been a TNR, therefore she has a tipped ear. She was 1 at the time and we also took a kitten and they bonded. Since then I became disabled, divorced, moved in with my mom who passed suddenly, and then last Thanksgiving we lost her bonded mate because of economic euthanasia. I can't lose Lucy this way. She just turned 10 in June. Lucy is a mama's girl, even more so now that Mabel is gone. Before my mom passed we got a kitten, Vinnie, and they do play and cuddle. She sleeps next to me. When it's time for bed and I start my nighttime routine she meows at me and comes to lay down in her spot. Once I'm settled she curls up and waits for pets while I go to sleep. Lucy has a fish that she loves. She loved her first blue one so much and it got so raggedy that i finally tracked it down and got her a new pink one. She is huge talker... especially at 2am. She also loves to yowl when she's walking around with her toy mouse in her mouth. Otherwise, she's a typical ginger. She loves watching birds & squirrels on tv as well. They have their own YT account to watch! Just before Thanksgiving I noticed that Lucy was licking her leg and there was blood. I thought she'd cut herself so I checked but there was nothing so I checked her mouth and there was a big bump protruding from her top gum. I feel awful that I haven't noticed it before now. Dr. Bryan at Primary Vet Care examined her and said it's a tumor that needs surgery to diagnose. I am disabled and on Social Security Disability. Until my mom passed I lived with her and we shared costs. Since then I have been struggling. The cost of this surgery is almost half of what I receive in a month. I can't lose another pet because I can't afford to save them.
Wilbur

Click the blue donate button and choose the Monthly Donation option. * “If you see something, say something” … thank goodness a concerned neighbor did just that, calling animal control to report an injured animal left outside. When animal control arrived, the owner said Wilbur had gotten into some kind of chemical three weeks ago. He said “he meant to take him to be euthanized” but never gave a clear reason why he didn’t. Sadly, lack of medical care is not a punishable offense. For three weeks, this poor dog has suffered in agony, in silence, all by himself. The skin has been burnt off his face, affecting his nose and lips, oozing clear fluid that caused the straw he was lying in to stick to his wounded face. The shelter is full and does not have the funds to provide care for this grievous injury. That is when we stepped in to take him into our care at One By One Animal Advocates. Wilbur was sedated so he his wounds could be cleaned, debrided, and treated. In addition to his obvious wounds he has muscle wasting most evident at his head and along his spine; so much so that the vet did not feel comfortable neutering him in his current condition. We found out he is Lyme and Erlicchea positive, not a huge surprise since he’s been living outside, and possibly heartworm positive - it has been sent to an outside lab for confirmation. We were a bit worried because they wanted to do an XRY because his heart sounded suspicious, but turns out it was ok and he had “old man lungs”. We are feeling overwhelmed in medical cases, but we cannot say no to this innocent dog who has fought to survive. Peaches

No one knows how Peaches sustained the shocking, blistering injuries to her face, but she realized she needed help. "Someone found Peaches seeking refuge at a house, her face marred by wounds from her forehead to her nose," Heather A., with One By One Animal Advocates, tells Waggle. "She whimpered in agony, desperately seeking relief." The group saved Peaches after she ended up in a shelter and brought her straight to an emergency animal hospital. "Poor Peaches is suffering from oozing and infected burns," Heather says. "It's heartbreaking." The medical team discovered Peaches had scars all over her body. "This isn't the first time Peaches has encountered violence before finding safety," Heather says. "She is lucky to be alive." The staff sedated Peaches to clean her wounds. She is hospitalized, receiving IV fluids, antibiotics, and medication to manage her pain. While these treatments provided temporary relief, her journey toward recovery is just beginning. The good news is Peaches doesn't seem to know her face bears the scars of her hideous past. She appears on her way to being a happy-go-lucky, tail-wagging girl. "Our hope is that we love her so much that she doesn't remember what happened," Heather adds. "She did not deserve to be so horrendously mistreated, but we are hopeful that we can still give this girl a bright future." Help Peaches put her traumatizing past in the rearview mirror and live a pain-free future. Every dollar counts and will make a big difference! Petey
Petey is a 12-year-old Beagle in Geneva, OH, who needs $600 for Complete Dental and Extractions of Rotting Teeth.

Petey was a stray and when no one came for him, he was in grave danger of being euthanized at a small, overcrowded, underfunded shelter, trying to do its best with limited space and resources. Petey is now safe and has a permanent place to live out his remaining years, surrounded by love, thanks to a wonderful group of people that rescued him and drove him to The Sanctuary. Petey, despite his pain, has a zest for life, loves humans and canines alike, and has quickly settled into his new life after an initial bout of anxiety. With so many changes, this old man has shown how resilient he can be, once he knows he's safe. He's been a very good patient through all the heartworm treatments and takes his medications like a champ. Petey's tail never stops waging, even when he's being examined by the vet! Even though his spine, knees, hips and his left rear leg are splayed outward, causing him to walk with a limp and a swagger, he's able to run around in the treatment room at the vet hospital and visit with all the other vets and techs, getting as many treats as he can! He's affectionately called Pistol Petey. Petey has finally recovered from heartworm disease after many months of treatments, but his rotting teeth now must be extracted and he must be neutered. Dr. Tom Zulandt, owner of Madison Vet Hospital has been treating him. As a registered animal rescue specializing in the long-term care of animals with medical needs, we rely on donations to pay for vet care. We've already raised funds for Petey's heartworm treatments. Mable Rae

On October 20, 2023 I drove to Valencia County Animal Shelter to pick up a darling blind pitbull that came in as a stray. I keep an eye on the Valencia volunteer Facebook group, which is where I saw the plea for a rescue to take this sweet girl, no one had volunteered, so I went and got her as a foster. This shelter euthanizes for space and I didn't want this sweet girl to lose her life. Mable has proven to be an easy going pup who LOVES people and other dogs! Since Mable is blind, she is extra sensitive to noises and if we walk past a person talking she absolutely has to stop and say hi. When she meets strangers she likes to lean into them for pets and will usually end up flopping onto the ground for belly rubs. She also does great with my dog in the home and loves children! By simply looking at Mable, one knows that life has not been fair to her. Her body shows a history of neglect and although there is no way to know what happened to Mable in her past, the state she was in when I got her spoke volumes. But the thing is, Mable is full of LOVE. For people, animals & life. She loves squeaky toys, to roll in the grass & most of all cuddle up with her human. Mable tested positive for ehrlichiosis, which is a awful disease that develops from a infected tick and can cause blindness. Dr. Glandon and her team from Eubank Animal Clinic has been AMAZING in getting her health on track but has referred us to an eye specialist at VCA as the pressure in her bad eye is 70, a healthy range is 12-14. The initial consultation to see a specialist is $250. I was not planning on fostering a dog, but just knew that I had to get Mable as she was at risk for euthanasia. As a single income household, I have done my best to care for Mable, but am at a point where I need help to get her the care that she deserves.
LITTLE ROSIE

LITTLE ROSIE isn't complaining. She is totally enjoying her pampered life in her foster home. But she has had some tough obstacles pop up in her life, and we are committed to making sure she gets everything she needs from here on out. LITTLE ROSIE is about 8 years old and is a little peanut at only 4.5 lbs.! We took her into the rescue not knowing too much about her history other than that she was pulled from a shelter right before being euthanized, and ended up living with a sweet 90 year old woman for a very short time who unfortunately could not care for her. LITTLE ROSIE has the sweetest personality and is a joy to have in foster care. She is a total snuggle bug and likes other dogs and every person she meets. She will make the ultimate companion for anyone looking for a low-key, sweet, lap dog. Upon taking her into rescue, we knew right away she was going to need a dental. But in addition to that, we found three little lumps. After the vet consultation, it was determined that she has mammary tumors that need to be removed immediately. The surgery will include complete removal of the tumors as well as biopsies. Her surgery date is set for November 9th at Clinton Vet Hospital. LITTLE ROSIE'S procedures are estimated at $1,380-$1,970. This is a huge and unexpected expense for a small rescue group like ours. We need your help in order to keep our doors open for dogs like ROSIE and so many other dogs in need.
Maxine

One By One Animal Advocates saved Maxine after a series of terrible events. "Imagine spending your whole life confined in a small cage, with no freedom to explore or experience the joys of being a cat," Heather A., with the nonprofit group, tells Waggle. "That's exactly what Maxine endured until she was surrendered to be euthanized." It was suspected stress and ear mites were causing health problems for the sweet cat. But things only got worse when an attempt was made to treat her with medication. "Instead of providing relief, it caused a horrific chemical burn, leaving her with an open, bloody wound and singeing off her whiskers," Heather says. But now, Maxine is safe with One By One Animal Advocates. "She has been through a lot, and now we have the opportunity to truly change her life for the better," Heather says. Oscar

Oscar spent more than a decade roaming the streets. Sadly, his caretaker recently passed away, leaving Oscar to face the world alone. He had never experienced the warmth and comfort of being indoors, but thankfully, a kind-hearted family member came to Oscar's rescue and welcomed him into their home. But they soon discovered Oscar needed urgent medical care they could not afford. They contacted One By One Animal Advocates for help. "Oscar's swollen paws are split open and bleeding, which makes it incredibly painful for him to walk," Heather A., with the nonprofit group, tells Waggle. "This is a condition called plasma cell pododermatitis." He is underweight, and his teeth are so rotten his tongue won't stay in his mouth. He may also be deaf or have polyps in his ears. Oscar will need antibiotics and dental surgery when he gains weight and is stable. Poor Oscar never puts his head down! Even while he sleeps. Heather suspects it's because he lived outside for so long he's used to being on high alert. But with your help, Oscar can get the care he needs and live out his senior years indoors with a loving family. "We look forward to getting him in tiptop shape so he can enjoy life," Heather says. "We would appreciate your help in doing so!"
Sissy Rhodes

3 bedroom home work assistance through housing authority. Still painting and doing minor repairs while moving in at the same time. Have been here less than 2 weeks working on making it ours. Currently it's my husband, myself, or 9 year old son Randy and my 19 year old Josh will be moving in soon. Sissy is one of us. We don't go anywhere without her. She goes to visit family, stay the night off with her brother, my 9 year old son, she spends the night with mawmaw and pawpaw, goes shopping, for walks, she sleeps in bed with her mommy, daddy or younger brother. She eats meals with the family and loves Dr Pepper. We just recently begin moving into a new home rented using HUD. Have been painting and doing other minor repairs and the process of moving in and recently adopted a small kitty that was abandoned by its mother and was bottle fed by me but cared for by sissy and passed away unexpectedly yesterday. The vet says it should like a upper respiratory system infection. Didn't even know the cat was sick. The kitty passed away and expectedly yesterday we are not even aware that she was ill. Either the kitty or something in the new environment may be the cause. Sissy is due for her regular vaccination shots and needs wormed, which I normally do myself, but I'm afraid to with situation. New pt at Beckley veterinary hospital said it's more than likely a uri but they need payment upfront. I am currently unemployed and seeking work My husband is the only recently been employed and we just moved into our new home having to pay all the initial security costs and deposits to get everything turned. Both my husband and I were denied care credit so we need help
