Bear
Bear is a 4-month-old Domestic Long Hair Cat in Indianapolis, IN, who needs $300 for Eye Removal.

My mom found two kittens with very severe eye infections back in July and took them in to care for them. Although we were told putting them down would be the best option, we believed they had enough spunk to make it and they’re still as spunky as ever 4 months later! But now they both need their bad eyes removed (Bear needs both, Monty needs one). Bear is a fun, unique little guy. He doesn’t have any sight left but still loves life, most especially climbing things. He is a little shyer than his brother Monty but is always happy and purring just being around people. He often will spin around in circles like he is chasing his tail until he gets dizzy and falls down. We definitely think it’s a coping mechanism for being completely blind, either an a compulsion or as a way to entertain himself. Either way, it’s one of a kind just like him. At our most recent vet visit at West Michigan Veterinary Clinic, we realized both of these brothers, Monty and Bear, will need their bad eyes removed in order to live healthy lives free from infection. Bear’s case is worst with him needing both eyes removed. My mom is in her mid-80s and lives on social security benefits with not much wiggle room for emergencies like this and I’m a full-time student living on loans. We are hoping to rehome these guys together after they recover from their surgery. The cost for Bear alone is estimated to be up to $800.
Spruce
Spruce is a 7-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog in Orem, UT, who needs $2,000 for Cystotomy.

I researched traits and qualities in the dog I wanted. I chose a Bernese Mountain Dog to be my buddy and hiking companion. The breeder actually gave personality tests so match dogs with owners. Spruce was my boy and it has been a perfect match. At the time I got him, I was going through a very difficult setback in my life. I can actually say that Spruce saved my life and now it is my turn. Spruce and I are glued at the hip. I rarely go anywhere without him. He is smart and cute. We have a special communication between us. It is just Spruce and I. He welcomes anyone I bring into my circle and is always very excited to see them. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body, but is always welcoming. I almost look at Spruce as being more human than dog because he is so intuitive. All of his antics make me smile: the way he holds up his paw when he wants something, the way he lays his head on my shoulder when we go for drives, the way he puts his chin on my bed and breaths hard to wake me when he needs to go out. He is the one who leads when we go on walks and communicates which way we go. Spruce has had the needed surgery once. Here we go again. It is a genetic condition that causes bladder stones. They are painful and could cause blockage. This is a life saving surgery. Frustratingly there is a medication that could prevent them from forming, but the pill that used to cost 1.32 now costs 30.00 per pill. Spruce has good years left. He needs surgery. Been through this surgery once. It cost me my savings. I learned I need to see a nutritionist to formulate food that can possibly prevent this from happening again. The consult and ultrasound has already cost me almost $1,000. I need my buddy to live his full life.

Sadly, since we wrote this story, two of the kittens, Hannah and Eli, passed away. There is still time to help save the remaining two kittens. A group of rescuers dedicated to fighting cruelty were heartbroken when they first saw these poor, suffering animals -- they were barely recognizable as kittens. "They were most likely abandoned simply because of their medical conditions," Kim D., with Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue, tells Waggle. "They were found covered in fleas and suffering from severe eye infections -- left alone on a scorching hot day and seeking shelter beneath a car, desperately trying to escape the heat." When the rescue heard about these helpless kittens, they wasted no time racing Hannah, Eli, Samuel and Penny to the animal hospital. Veterinarians discovered their eyes were ruptured and draining. The kittens are being treated with antibiotics and eye ointment, which will help alleviate their discomfort and prevent further complications until they are healthy enough for surgery. "The vet thinks it's unlikely that their eyes can be saved, but kittens are incredible, so there is still hope," Kim says. The kittens are already beginning to rebound. They are starting to eat on their own; their foster has been syringe-feeding them to help them gain strength. With every day, their survival rate increases. Presley

Presley narrowly defied the odds after being attacked. She was found lying on the street motionless and could only lift her head. That's when Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge heard about the kitten. The nonprofit group rushed her to an animal hospital. She was dehydrated with traumatic injuries to her back end – including a severely fractured femur, puncture wounds, a large abscess from her thigh to her tail, a painful abdomen, a fractured pelvis, and impacted stool. "Presley's tiny body was failing at just four months old – the priority was stabilizing her. Her blood pressure was plummeting," Amy H., with the rescue group, tells Waggle. Veterinarians feared she was in the early stages of sepsis. After a blood transfusion and medication, Presley finally stabilized. "We breathed a sigh of relief and hope," Amy says. But now Presley needs your help to survive. Presley needs two separate surgeries. One to repair her wounds and add drains before the infection worsens. The second operation will address her fractured leg, which is shattered without hope of repair and must be amputated. Presley has a long road ahead, but today, she has something she has never had: YOU – a kind, dedicated community of supporters. Dobby, an 8-month-old dog, is in desperate need of your help. He found himself alone at the Emergency vet clinic with a broken front leg, longing for his owner to come and save him. But sadly, they never showed up. His owner abandoned him instead of providing the care he desperately needed. Due to legal complications, Dobby's much-needed leg surgery has been delayed. Time was running out as the ER faced the difficult decision to euthanize him if no one stepped forward. The ER has approached one By One Animal Advocates, asking for our assistance in saving Dobby's life. "Sadly, we currently have no available foster homes or space to accommodate him. But one thing is certain - we cannot let him down, and we cannot let him lose his life when he's just starting to experience it," Heather A., tell their supporters. "We are going on faith that you all will show your support through donations, that may be a rescue will find a spot, or that hopefully a foster will find a little extra room." Coming from a rough and neglectful past where she was most likely used as a breeding dog and then dumped by her owner and ran as a stray, Lacey is surprisingly sweet and kind and, above all, forgiving despite her numerous, painful rotting teeth, huge tumors and high blood pressure and high levels of protein in her urine. Lacey arrived woefully thin due to a huge intestinal parasite burden that was negatively impacting her liver and hemoglobin. And sadly, because of this, she needed to be separated from the other animals until she was clean. But that never stopped her from impishly playing hide and seek through the deck railing with her caretakers and several of the other dogs, where it’s all love and gentleness. Thriving on her caretakers’ love and affection, she loves snuggling in blankets, being bathed and massaged, and is easy to groom. Friendly and well-behaved at the vet, where she’s a special favorite, she’s sleeping better, and longer now, is as smart as she is sweet, and is always in tune with what’s going on around her. Lacey has four different tumors on her body, and the two that are the most concerning are on her chest. The pendulous one is about the size of a lemon and sways back and forth when she moves. The other is a subcutaneous tumor that is growing in size daily. Although benign, they need to be removed, along with her numerous rotting teeth. Lacey must also be spayed to help prevent mammary tumors. We provide lifetime care for animals with medical needs and rely solely on donations to pay for their vet bills. We have raised funds for Lacey’s recent lab tests and cytologies but need help with getting donations for her surgery. Please help this deserving hound. Thanks!!
Zeus

Zeus is in critical condition, fighting deadly parvo-virus after being hit by a car. Zeus was struck by a car, and his injuries were neglected without medical attention. His wounds were wrapped in clear tape and bandages that had cut down deep into his muscle, causing him unimaginable pain and his white blood count to be alarmingly high. As severe and horrific as Zeus’ untreated wounds are, they are nothing compared to what he is facing now. Recently, Zeus contracted parvo - a severe illness that can be fatal in dogs if left untreated. He has been suffering from bloody diarrhea and a dangerously high fever of 106 degrees. This poor pup is fighting for his life and needs our help. Upon admission to the animal clinic, Zeus struggled to breathe and regurgitate, his temperature dangerously high. His medical team feared his body was going into shock, and his blood pressure and heart rate were at critical levels. A central line and NG tube were placed to stabilize Zeus with supportive care, oxygen, antibiotics and fluids. Zeus is very sweet puppy, at just 9 months old, having lived his whole life as a yard dog, trying to escape his grim reality with his 2 siblings, Bunny and Adam, only to face a worse battle. Despite her emaciated body and sunken face, the rescuers at Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge could still see hope and love in Maggie's eyes. "She was found malnourished, covered in fleas and pressure sores, likely from being confined to a cage," Amy H., with the nonprofit group, tells Waggle. "A discarded mama dog, Maggie was used for breeding and horrifically neglected. We can't even begin to imagine what happened to her babies." The rescue immediately rushed Maggie to an animal hospital. "Despite being malnourished and having painful sores, she's hanging in there," Amy says. "The veterinarians are doing everything possible to determine what caused her condition, including X-rays and blood work. They suspect starvation, but they're also checking for other medical issues." Maggie was so starved she resorted to eating her feces to survive. But now, with the help of caring professionals, she's on a slow refeeding schedule and healthy food to put weight back on. "We can't imagine how scared and confused Maggie must have felt before finding help," Amy adds. Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge partnered with Best Friend Dog and Animal Adoption to rescue Maggie. Stormy
Stormy is a 12-year-old Beagle in Geneva, OH, who needs $920 for urgent care.

Abandoned by her owner, Stormy was left to wander aimlessly. Finally, someone called the shelter, and Stormy was brought in as a stray. Based on Stormy's huge, distended abdomen, everyone thought she was pregnant. Stormy was claimed by another rescue, but after an X-ray revealed that she was not pregnant, the rescue abandoned her at the vet hospital. That’s when we sprang into action to save her. While we don't know the details of Stormy's past, we do see the telltale signs of abuse. Her tail is raw and often bleeds, which is common in dogs that are kept in very small cages. Stormy's coat is extremely dry and full of stains, particularly around her neck, indicating a collar that was fastened too tightly. She was absolutely covered in fleas and ticks, and she was an itchy, miserable mess. Despite all that Stormy has endured, she is the sweetest beagle who is determined not to let her serious health issues get her down. With a hearty appetite, Stormy lets us know when she's hungry and when she has to go outside. She's mellow and friendly with all the other dogs here and loves to snuggle with her caretakers, too. Stormy has the most endearing facial expressions and makes us smile. Stormy's liver and spleen are both extremely enlarged, and the right side of her heart is also displaying some abnormalities. In addition, Stormy is dealing with a heart murmur and her teeth are rotting away inside her mouth. She still needs to undergo additional radiographs, an ultrasound and lab tests to determine whether she is suffering from cancer, heart or liver disease, or Cushing's. We are a non-profit animal sanctuary that provides high quality, lifetime care for severely ill animals, like Stormy, that have no other options.
