Smokey

Smokey is a 6 year old German Shepherd Dog in North Port, FL, who needs $2,000 for Abscess and Tooth Removal Surgery.

North Port, FL

On July 21st, 2024 my mom breathed her last breath and I was left with a car and Smokey her dog. It is an emotional thing to see him hurting and in need of a life saving surgery. Smokey was my step fathers dog, and when he passed my mom had him to remind her of her late husband. Now I am doing the same and Smokey is what I have left living from my mom and step father. Smokey has an abscess in his mouth and needs a surgery I just can't afford. They told me he needs it immediately and I will need to get it right away. Right now Smokey is on pain meds and antibiotic, which ran out today. Smokey is now a part of my pack because his has passed away. As you can imagine Smokey now has us and we have him and we need each other. He has lost a lot and I just want him to be healthy and well to live a great life. When we took Smokey in it strained our income for sure since my husband is retired and living on SS and I am self employed. We need help getting Smokey the surgery he needs to save his life and we just don't have the finances to do it. Please help us.

Dolly

Dolly is a 2-month-old Mini Golden Doodle in North Port, FL, who needs $900 for Xrays, IV and Oral Antibiotics.

North Port, FL • Mending Hearts Pet Rescue

Dolly is currently living in a foster home while she heals from a respiratory illness. She was sick from the day she was purchased, and declined quickly in her new owners care. The previous owner gave her medications but did not put in extra effort to make sure she was eating or thriving. After 1 week of medication, Dolly was still declining. The owner scheduled her to be euthanized citing "no attachment" to her and not wanting to spend any additional money. Dolly is a perfectly adorable and playful little puppy, beautiful inside and out! She loves her toys and her people and is a sweet and innocent soul! Dolly was brought to Charlotte Animal Hospital shortly after being purchased from a breeder. The owner did not have a name for her, and did not want to spend any money on her. After a brief exam, all diagnostics were declined, and she went home with some antibiotics. We, as a newly formed rescue, could not stand to see a puppy euthanized due to lack of care or interest from the owner. The owner contacted the breeder and got no response, and refused to spend further money on the puppy. We paid the nearly $700 on her and she is improving!

Xena

Xena is a 5-year-old Mixed Breed in Port Charlotte, FL, who needs $1,100 for Bladder Stone Removal.

Port Charlotte, FL

I adopted Xena after Hurricane Irma 5 years ago. She was in a shelter and I saw her picture and fell in love. My dog Shana passed away in Hurricane Irma so I adopted Xena. Xena lives with me in my house and I also adopted another puppy named Gabrielle from the same pound to keep her company. I love them so much. They are inseparable. They are always together. Joined at the hip as they say. Xena loves being outdoors. I have a huge fenced in back yard, and Xena and my other dog Gabrielle (names were derived from a science fiction series called Xena Princess Warrior. Gabrielle was Xena Princess Warriors sidekick). Xena and Gabrielle love playing out in the back yard and running around. My 18 year old grandson lives with me and he adores both of my dogs and spoils them. Xena is very friendly and loves attention and being petted. She is very well behaved and if I ask her to do something or not do something, she obeys me. When strangers come to the door she wags her tail and looks to be patted. Definitely I do not think of her as a watch dog, she is too friendly and would probably just wag at an intruder and want to be patted. She is a people dog all the way. Xena has a large bladder stone and when she urinates the stone perforates her bladder and she urinates blood. She needs surgery to remove the stone so her bladder can heal. Due to Hurricane Ian unforeseen hurricane related expenses, I do not the money to pay for her surgery now. I am financially strapped, I live on Social Security and SSI disability which is not much money. I maxed out my credit card and savings with hurricane Ian related living expenses. The Xena started to be in pain and urinating blood, and her vet says she needs this operation
