Help Chico Get Life-Saving Cardiac Care After Losing His Home

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Chico is a 10-year-old Chihuahua who has spent his entire life deeply loved. His owner made sure he was always cared for — she had him neutered, kept him current on vaccines, and even provided daily pain medication to ease his arthritis. But when her own health declined and she had to move into a nursing home, she was heartbroken to say goodbye to her loyal companion. One By One stepped in to help Chico, determined to make sure this sweet senior would continue receiving the care he deserves. During his recent veterinary visit, it became clear that Chico’s health is fragile and he needs urgent follow-up care. His exam revealed abnormalities on his bloodwork, severe dental disease requiring extractions, and — most concerning — an abnormal heart rhythm and unusual heart sounds. While listening to him, the veterinarian noted a possible arrhythmia and even observed his tongue turning a shade of purple, suggesting possible low oxygen levels. These findings make a full cardiac workup essential before any dental surgery can safely be performed. Chico now needs an echocardiogram, ECG, and cardiac consultation with a specialist. These tests will determine whether he requires medication and how to safely proceed with his dental treatment. Unfortunately, the specialty clinic requires payment at the time of service, and the cost for the cardiac workup is $1,300. Additional expenses include: • Dental extractions estimated at $500 • Senior bloodwork already performed: $150 Although this sounds like a lot, Chico is only 10 years old and still has many happy years ahead of him with proper care. Helping him now not only improves his quality of life, but also brings tremendous comfort to the owner who loved him for so long and wants to know he is safe and cared for. Your donation will help Chico receive the cardiac testing he urgently needs and move forward with life-improving treatment. Every contribution, no matter the amount, helps this sweet senior get closer to the care he deserves. Together, we can show Chico — and the people who love him — that senior dogs matter, and they deserve every chance to live their best life. 4/29/26 Update Yesterday, Chico made the long trip to MedVet for his full cardiology consultation, including an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) and ECG, and we truly received the best news we could have hoped for. While the veterinarian did confirm that Chico has two mildly leaky heart valves, these changes are considered age- and breed-related and, thankfully, do not require cardiac medication at this time. Even better — Chico has officially been cleared for anesthesia under a monitored cardiac protocol. This means we can now move forward with the next major step in his healing: addressing the severe dental disease that has likely been causing him chronic pain for quite some time. For a tiny senior dog, bad teeth are not just cosmetic — they are painful, dangerous, and can affect the entire body. Infected teeth and diseased gums can make eating miserable, worsen inflammation, and continue putting strain on his health if left untreated. Now that his heart has been evaluated, Chico desperately needs his dental procedure and extractions scheduled as soon as possible so he can finally eat comfortably, feel better, and enjoy the happy golden years he deserves. But we still need your help to get him there. The cardiology visit was a huge expense, and we are now actively fundraising for Chico’s upcoming dental surgery. This procedure is essential — not optional — and every day we wait is another day Chico continues living with pain in his mouth. Please donate and share to help us finish what we started for Chico. His best years are waiting — and we cannot get him there without you.

Liam

Liam is a 14 year old Mix-Breed in Avon, IN, who needs $1,000 for Imaging, Lab Work and Excision Surgery.

Avon, IN

Liam wondered into my life as a teeny tiny kitten who'd been left in the bushes across the street from my home. He is the patriarch of the house and nobody messes with him! He's my guy; constant companion and snuggle buddy. If you're looking for him, the chances are high that he's on my bed and in a very silly sleeping position. He's also great with kids; the best, in fact! Liam has a cyst on his neck. When we first had it examined there were no indications of malignancy and since it wasn't bothering him we decided not to put him through surgery, but now a lot has changed and it definitely needs to be removed. He has scratched the area bald and it constantly leaks, causing discomfort. Liam is Mr. Chatty, Grumpy Old Man. He always has a stern-looking expression, but the BEST purr in the world. He loves being up high, but is spending more time on soft low surfaces now that he's gotten older. He loves everyone once he warms up and is incredible with kids. He really puts up with a lot, even if you know he doesn't like it like, baths! He just gives me a pathetic meow and deals. We lost our Gemma, who was the best nanny dog you ever met, just last Fall. I am doing my best to keep everyone healthy, but can't do this on my own. I don't currently have income, but I'm working very hard to get back to having it & don't want him to have to wait.

Help Mercedes Smile Again

Orange, CA • MeoowzResq

Help Mercedes Smile Again ❤️ Mercedes' story is one of resilience, hope, and a little bit of luck. This sweet orange kitten was found alone on the streets of Anaheim when she was just five months old. Despite everything she had already endured, Mercedes never stopped purring or greeting everyone with her adorable little tongue that always peeked out, making her impossible not to fall in love with. Shortly after entering our rescue, Mercedes was diagnosed with FIP, a disease that was once considered fatal. After 86 days of intensive treatment, she beat the odds and survived. Unfortunately, the disease left her immune system compromised, causing severe inflammation in her mouth and gums. We sought answers from three different veterinarians, hoping there might be another option. Each one came to the same heartbreaking conclusion: Mercedes would need a full dental extraction to end her constant pain. As if that wasn't enough, Mercedes was also born with a congenital eye condition. The inflammation from her mouth led to an infection in that same eye, requiring emergency veterinary care. We knew there were still more medical hurdles ahead. Before making such a life-changing decision, we wanted one final opinion. Then something amazing happened. At one of our adoption events, a kind woman named Lucky met Mercedes and agreed to foster her while she continued her medical journey. That same day, a veterinary technician from a dental specialty practice happened to stop by our event. She encouraged us to bring Mercedes to their office for another evaluation. Although the specialists agreed that a full-mouth extraction was the only way to relieve Mercedes' pain, they were touched by her story and generously offered our rescue a significant discount to make the surgery possible. On July 16, 2026, Mercedes received her full dental extraction. For the first time in months, she has the opportunity to live without constant pain and begin enjoying life the way every kitten deserves. The cost of her life-changing surgery was $1,200. Today, we're asking for your help. Every donation—large or small—helps us cover Mercedes' medical expenses so we can continue saying "yes" to cats like her who have nowhere else to turn. Mercedes fought to survive. Now we're asking our community to help her heal. If you're able, please consider making a donation toward Mercedes' care. Thank you for giving special cats like Mercedes a second chance at a happy, healthy life.

Little butt

Little butt is a 4 month old Mix-Breed in Grafton, MA, who needs $2,500 for ER Admission for Further Treatment/Testing.

Grafton, MA

Little Butt came into our lives approx 3/4 mon ago. One day after our house fire, we went to the food bank to find a tiny kitten being given away by a stranger. eagerly I accepted the role of mother to this tiny kitten. since then he has been a bundle of joy, wonderful temperament, cuddly, and affectionate. he loves playing with his big brother or our ducks, cuddling up on a lap, Less than 24 hours ago, I noticed little butt was having diarrhea along with a lot of blood in his stool. I immediately rushed over to the emergency room. At the emergency room, they gave me an option to admit him to the ER for further examination because at this point, he was not able to move unable to drink or eat. admitting him to the ER they said would cost approx 2000$ Little butts an affectionate playful bundle of fluff, his big brother Scooch and the ducks love playing with him. He’s a big lap cat & super cuddly at just 4 months He’s a tiny guy that thinks he’s a tiger & often goes up against his big brother in wrestling matches he loves being with people & hates to be alone. It would break my heart to not be able to save him because of my financial situation my fiancé lost his job due to Covid. I have an online store & We both work side jobs for extra $ we are trying to get by just like everyone else I would live with such guilt if I lost him because I cannot afford to pay to get him the proper treatment. A life cut too short

Brandy

Brandy is a 6 Year Old American Pit Bull Terrier in San Bernardino , CA, Who Needs $2,000 for Surgical Removal of the Uterus and Ovaries.

San Bernardino, CA

This is Brandy. She is my emotional support dog. She is the last of my two beloved momma and poppa dogs(Gordo and Ruby, seen in pictures with her). We were evicted from our home last summer. My two boys, her brothers, were beautiful and very love, were taken by the pound. And my beautiful momma, Ruby died in my car.We were devastated. Brandy became my emotional support thru my severe depression. Brandy got sick. She didn't eat, but drinks lots of water and had become bloated. She began bleeding a lot from her vagina. I had no money, but luckily a good friend lent me the money to take to Veterinary Emergency Center of Redlands. And the Vet told me she has pyometra which is life-threatening. Her uterus is full of infected fluid and needs immediate surgical removal of the uterus and ovaries. There were 4 in Ruby's litter. Two boys and two girls. They were so cute and we ended up keeping them all. You can imagine 6 put bulls. But they were raised well and loved as they were our own children. It was challenging, exciting, fun with many enjoyable memories. Didn't raise them to fight, but grow together as a pack. As family, and they were our children. Momma, poppa, and the babies. We had a nice house around the corner from my mom. It was our home for 14 yrs. It was sold and for a short time, after a long exhausting fight to keep our home, we became homeless thru the hot summer of 2025. My boys were put to sleep before I could rescued. And my Ruby died

Hermie Is Learning What It Means To Be Loved

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

How does a little cat end up like this? Hermie was found outside alone, frighteningly thin and covered in fleas. There were so many fleas that simply getting him comfortable and free from parasites became an immediate priority. But his extremely low weight is especially concerning. When a cat comes in this thin, it can be a sign that something more serious is happening beneath the surface. Hermie will need extensive diagnostics to understand why his body is so depleted and determine what treatment he needs to recover. Castaway Critters had no open space. No available fosters. And after taking on back-to-back hoarding cases, their resources are already stretched incredibly thin. But how could they look away? They couldn't. The team made Hermie a temporary space in a ferret cage at their medical sanctuary and immediately began tackling the fleas and worms that had been overwhelming his fragile body. It may not be much, but for Hermie, it means a new beginning. A fresh start. He is warm. He is clean. He has fresh food, water, extra nutrients, and people watching over him as he begins to regain his strength. Now, Hermie needs our help taking the next step. His diagnostics and continued veterinary care will add to an already overwhelming financial burden for Castaway Critters. Please consider donating toward Hermie’s care. Every contribution can help give this little guy the answers, treatment, and new beginning he deserves. Hang on, Hermie. Your new beginning is already here. ❤️

Swiss & Trailer Swift

Help Trailer Swift & Swiss With Essential Veterinary Care

Tampa, FL • Rags to Riches Animal Rescue Inc

One was found living underneath a mobile home, while the other is a curious young kitten who wants to be part of everything. Now Swiss and Trailer Swift are both relying on Rags to Riches Animal Rescue to make sure they receive the veterinary care they need before moving on to their forever homes. Trailer Swift is a sweet gray and white cat who was discovered living underneath a mobile home. The original plan was to have her spayed, vaccinated, and returned outside through TNVR, but there was one problem: Trailer Swift was simply far too friendly to send back to life outdoors. This affectionate girl made it clear that she wanted to be around people. She loves cuddling, being picked up and held like a baby, and having full conversations with her caregivers when she wants attention or knows it's time to eat. Once her foster saw just how social she was, Rags to Riches decided Trailer Swift deserved the opportunity to trade life underneath a mobile home for a safe indoor home of her own. Before she can begin that next chapter, the rescue has been making sure her veterinary needs are taken care of. Trailer Swift has undergone her spay along with wellness care, vaccinations, fecal testing, feline disease testing, microchipping, and medication to keep her comfortable following surgery. For now, she is safely recovering indoors in her little spay suit instead of struggling outside. Swiss is a playful tabby kitten with a very different beginning but the same need for responsible veterinary care. This curious little explorer loves chasing toys, climbing, investigating anything new, and following her people around the house so she doesn't miss out on the fun. She enjoys other cats and has been learning what life with dogs is like, too. As Swiss grows, Rags to Riches has been keeping up with the vaccinations and preventive care she needs to stay protected. Her recent care has included important kitten vaccinations, rabies vaccination, and several months of parasite prevention. Neither of these girls needed a dramatic emergency for their veterinary care to matter. Spaying, vaccinations, disease testing, parasite prevention, and routine medical care are all important parts of giving rescued animals a healthy start, and those expenses add up quickly when a rescue is caring for animal after animal. Donations to Swiss and Trailer Swift's fundraiser will help cover their spay, vaccinations, testing, parasite prevention, and other eligible veterinary expenses. With Rags to Riches covering the care these girls need now, Trailer Swift can continue adjusting to a life safely indoors while Swiss continues growing into the playful, curious girl she's meant to be.
