Berlin Birdy LaRocque

Berlin Birdy LaRocque is a 11-year-old Miniature Pincher in San Andreas , CA, who needs $1,900 for Acute Kidney Disease Hospitalization.

San Andreas, CA

Berlin is the oldest of our 3 fur children. We adopted her from the Sacramento Spca in 2015. She came home with aggressive kennel cough, but with lots of TLC she quickly adjusted. 3 years later and 2 dogs more Berlin quickly declined and was diagnosed with Doggie Diabetes. Soon after that she lost her eyes to the disease. I have been caring for her round the clock with all the love I can give. Berlin has 2 siblings. Gunner a 7 year old Doberman rotwiller. And Marsali and 5 year old Mutt. Before Marsali was added to the pack Berlin was the sole provider of Gunners play. Although she was much smaller she did what she could. Unfortunately because of her handicap and size both dogs tend to leave her be. They do come around her bed and give her kisses and love. It's very endearing to see. Although Berlin is blind she can very much see with her nose. She can locate the smallest crumb from under the couch and has no problem with crawling under to find it. She is speedy and spunky. She gives much attitude when it comes to things she wants. She is a cuddle bug and loves a warm blanket. You will never catch her without some sort of clothes garment. She loves to dress to impress. Berlin has an extensive medical file. Her diabetes comes with insulin, needles, ketone strips, subcutaneous fluid ringers, glucose meters with strips and lancets. She requires close care from both me and the staff at our vet hospital. Everyone knows Berlin there and everyone is aware of her case file. We are expecting our first child, a baby girl due March 23rd. Unfortunately because of inflation as well, and my husbands medical retirement we are really struggling to find a way to keep Berlin from being put to sleep because of cost.

Ginger P. Sputnik

Ginger P. Sputnik is a 15-year-old Chow-Shepard Mix in Denver, CO, who needs $1,007 for Cancer Tumor Surgery.

Denver, CO

When Ginger was young (her full name is Ginger P. Sputnik), here she was out of bounds in love with being in the world. I remember going to my wife’s office when her colleague’s son had brought Ginger home from a cardboard box of puppies a rancher had quietly left in his college Student Union. I, being older, had specified that, if we accepted adoption, the dog had to be quiet and mellow. Ginger was a cup-sized bundle of rusted fur not with any demeanor that suggested quiet and mellow. When I picked her up for the first time, she exploded in wiggles and kisses. I said, “oh no this is a Sputnik”. My wife and kids thought Sputnik was not lady-like and so she became Ginger (the P. stands for Penny, my wife’s choice). With joy she could launch herself into orbit at the sight of you We are well over 65 and with modest fixed income. The surgery to remove the remaining cancer and give her another day in the sun is twice one monthly income. her caregivers are in grief facing a drawn-out untimely death without a surgery beyond their financial reach. We were not ready for our old pup to have a lump on her paw during a nail trim. Our vet removed much of what was a tumor and had it biopsied. It was both a benign and aggressive carcinoma. Our Google searches had shown us that the aggressive part would fatal if it had spread. The prognosis came back with a sense of joy, the cancers were still confined. Ginger has a good fighting chance. The college Student Union where the rancher left Ginger and her siblings in the cardboard box is in the vast San Luis Valley in southern Colorado. We like to say she was the first member of her family to go to college, but she was a "valley girl" and flunked out immediately, a party animal that had no brain. She loves to gnaw up and down on the cat's back. The cat has no opinion about this.

Boo

Boo is a 3 year old Russian Blue in Richmond, KY, who needs $2,000 for MRI.

Richmond, KY

Boo came into our lives as a little runt kitten from a pregnant stray. She lives with my husband and I along with our 4 other cats. She is adored by all of us, but especially by our shy calico named Reese. Reese has always been terrified of everything, but once we got Boo she really started to come out of her shell. Boo is her best friend. I don't know how Reese would live without Boo. We have been taking her to the vet for over a month once a week. They first thought she had sciatic pain and treated her accordingly. After many visits it was determined that she now needed further help from a neurologist. Her hind legs are having muscle atrophy, her tail doesn't work at all, and she is barely moving around even with constant pain meds. She requires an MRI and further tests now. Boo lives in our hearts heavily. She is quite young, but has a huge bond with my husband especially. She begs to be held by him every day and purrs so very loudly when he does. Boo is typically very lively and loves to play with her adopted siblings daily. Our oldest cat Reese is attached to her emotionally and physically. Boo helped her to become an active, social cat since we adopted her. Unfortunately my husband and I are having medical issues as well right now. I am in the middle of a major diagnostic journey for an autoimmune disease and both of our health issues have drained our accounts. She helps us and we just want to be able to help her in return

Hoarding Case

Castaway Critters was met with another hoarding cat situation. They desperately need you!

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

Castaway Critters was recently contacted by a woman who recognized that she needed help and bravely reached out to Castaway Critters for support. First and foremost, they want to thank her for taking the right step. It takes courage to acknowledge that things have gotten out of hand and to ask for help before the situation becomes even worse. After seeing their other recent hoarding situation, she realized she didn't want her own animals to reach that point. She knew it was time to ask for help—and they are here to help both her and her cats. They are currently looking at 35–50 cats living in the home, including both kittens and adults. None of the cats have been spayed or neutered. Their plan is to safely remove and care for all of the cats while also helping the four senior cats she has loved and cared for their entire lives. Once they have been spayed/neutered and received the veterinary care they need, they will return them to her. They will also work with her to provide food and litter while she gets back on her feet. Some may question why they would return the senior cats, but they believe that helping the community is an important part of rescue. These cats are loved, and uprooting four senior animals who have spent their entire lives with their person isn't necessarily the best solution. If they can ensure they are healthy, fed, safe, and loved while helping their owner get back on her feet, that's a win for everyone. ❤️ This will be a massive team effort. They are organizing extraction teams and will move the cats out in phases. Their first phase began with the kittens. The kittens arrived with fleas, upper respiratory infections, worms, and infected eyes. They have all started antibiotics and are already getting cleaned up with a much-needed bath. There are still many more cats waiting, and they know this journey will be long, but it will be worth it. Your support makes it possible for Castaway Critters to keep showing up, one animal and one community at a time. Please remember to be kind. Everyone needs a little help sometimes, and they believe that offering compassion can change lives for both people and animals. Thank you for everything you have done for Castaway Critters and for continuing to stand beside us and them. We appreciate you more than words can say. At the end of the day, we all have the same goal: saving lives.

Hoarding Cats

This is the worst hoarding case Castaway Critters has seen.

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

What Castaway Critters walked into was something they'll never forget. Castaway Critters cats rescued 20+ cats and kittens from a home in Pennsylvania. The conditions were beyond heartbreaking. The home was infested with roaches, bed bugs, mice, fleas, ticks, and lice. The ammonia from years of waste was so overwhelming that their team had to wear HAZMAT suits and respirators just to enter safely. It was a scene of unimaginable neglect. Inside, frightened cats of all ages—from newborn kittens just 2 days old to senior cats over 10 years old —were doing their best to survive together in an environment no animal should ever endure. Now the real work begins. Every cat they rescued needs veterinary care, nutritious food, parasite treatment, and a safe place to heal. Some are in far worse condition than others, but every single one deserves a chance at a new life. Castaway Critters is desperately asking for your help. Your donation, no matter the size, will help provide emergency medical care, supplies, and the resources needed to get each one of these cats the life-saving care they need to heal and hopefully, find a loving home one day that will care for them properly. Together, we can turn a place of unimaginable suffering into the beginning of a brighter future for these cats. Thank you for standing with them.

Shammi and Her Kittens

Shammi and her kittens need your help in a heartbreaking fight for survival.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

What should have been a joyful story of a mother cat raising her babies has turned into a heartbreaking fight for survival. Shammi and her five kittens came into the rescue already struggling. The tiny family has been battling severe gastrointestinal illness, parasites, dehydration, and ongoing medical concerns. Despite multiple veterinary visits, diagnostic testing, medications, supportive care, and around-the-clock monitoring, the kittens remained dangerously small for their age. One of Shammi's precious kittens, Tinos, suddenly declined and was rushed to the emergency hospital. Despite every effort to save him, Tinos passed away wrapped in the warmth and love of his devoted mother. Our team was devastated, but we immediately made the difficult decision to authorize a necropsy in hopes of determining what caused Tinos' death and whether there is anything more we can do to protect his siblings. Just hours later, another kitten, Rhea, developed labored breathing and coughing and was rushed back to the emergency hospital. Doctors diagnosed pneumonia, and Rhea remains hospitalized while receiving intensive medical care. Today, Shammi's remaining kittens—Rhea, Cora, Eros, and Nikos—are still fighting. They are receiving medications, fluids, supportive care, and close monitoring as we work tirelessly to keep them alive and uncover the cause of their illnesses. In less than 24 hours, medical expenses for this tiny family have exceeded $7,000 and continue to climb. Emergency hospitalization, diagnostic testing, medications, imaging, treatment, follow-up care, and Tinos' necropsy have created an overwhelming financial burden, but we refuse to give up on these babies. Every donation will go directly toward: Emergency hospitalization and treatment for Rhea Ongoing medical care for Shammi and the remaining kittens Diagnostic testing and laboratory work Medications, fluids, and supportive care Tinos' necropsy to help provide answers and protect his siblings Rescue can be heartbreaking. We cannot save every animal, but we owe them every chance. Please help us give Shammi and her remaining kittens the care they desperately need. Your support could make the difference between life and death for this fragile family. Thank you for standing with them during one of the most difficult rescue cases we have faced.

Help Loki Survive This Life-Threatening Urinary Emergency

Wakefield, MA • Paws 4 A Cure

Meet Loki, a sweet and spirited four-year-old cat who is now fighting for his life after developing a severe urinary obstruction and complications from FLUTD (Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease). What started as a few days of lethargy quickly turned into a heartbreaking medical emergency that no family was prepared for. Loki’s mom rushed him to the emergency vet after realizing something was terribly wrong. He was diagnosed with a painful urethral obstruction — a condition that can quickly become fatal without immediate treatment. Since then, Loki has already undergone catheterization procedures twice after suffering repeat blockages. Now, veterinarians suspect a urethral tear, and Loki is also battling severe anemia, even after receiving a blood transfusion. Right now, Loki remains hospitalized under close veterinary supervision. He requires ongoing intensive care, including urinary catheter management, constant monitoring of his PCV levels, medications, and supportive treatment to keep him stable while doctors determine when he will be strong enough for the next step in his care — a lifesaving PU surgery that could prevent future blockages. The cost of Loki’s emergency hospitalization and continued treatment has already reached $6,289.56, and it continues to grow each day he remains in critical care. Thankfully, Paws 4 A Cure has stepped in with a generous $400 grant, but Loki’s family still urgently needs help raising $2,194 to continue his treatment and give him the chance to recover. Loki is not just a cat — he is family. His mom has loved him since he was only a tiny kitten. One of their children owned Loki’s father, and the family instantly fell in love with him while helping care for the litter. Since then, Loki has grown into the goofy, clever, lovable companion everyone adores. True to his name, inspired by the Marvel character Loki, he is sneaky, smart, mischievous, and full of personality. He keeps everyone laughing with his antics and fills their home with joy and love every single day. His family cannot imagine life without him. Now they are doing everything possible to save him — but they cannot do it alone. Loki still has so much life ahead of him. His veterinarians remain hopeful, but time and continued medical care are critical. Every donation, no matter the size, helps cover his hospitalization, ongoing treatment, and the surgery he desperately needs to survive and avoid future painful blockages. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help Loki continue fighting. If you are unable to donate, sharing his story can make an enormous difference and help this loving family reach more people.

Tuesday

Tuesday is a 2 month old Mix-Breed in Harrisonburg , VA, who needs $700 for Enucleation.

Harrisonburg, VA

Tuesday come into my life unexpectedly, when her and 6 litter mates were dumped off along the side of the road in a small cat carrier with no food or water, in 80+ degree weather left to suffocate and die. I am an experienced foster through my local SPCA and was tagged in the post about her and her litter mates being found as the person who did could not and was no in the situation to help them. When Tuesday come to me, she had an eye infection which I was treating with some erythromycin twice a day, and seemed to be helping. But while playing with the others, I believe she got scratched in her eye or done so herself which fully got worse in no time, a vet visit with a medical voucher and co-pay confirmed it ruptured and she needs an inoculation when she reaches 2 pounds and cost $700. Aside from Tuesday and her litter, I have 8 cats of my own and dog, which doesn't include the three I foster for my local SPCA! She is a beautiful soul and despite her pain and sensitivity to her eye, she doesn't let it stop her from playing or purring. She loves and thrives off interaction, having to keep her in a cage to protect her eye means she can't sleep with me or play with her litter. Not only was this unexpected, I'm a single mom of 4 kids, with one income. To have Tuesday's eye fixed means she could play and sleep with me again, my kids could play and love on her, her and her litter could reunite. She has a potential home, but her eye need fixed to go.
