Max Was Almost Euthanized - Help Us Heal Him

La Mesa, CA • The Animal Pad

Max’s family made the heartbreaking decision to schedule an in-home euthanasia appointment after watching him suffer for so long with painful skin and ear issues they could no longer manage. But when the veterinarian arrived, she felt in her heart that euthanasia wasn’t the right answer. Beneath the inflamed skin, infected ears, and discomfort was a dog who still had life left in him — and a condition that appeared treatable with proper medical care. She immediately reached out to The Animal Pad asking if we could step in and give Max a chance. His owners lovingly agreed to surrender him to us so he could receive the medical support he desperately needed. Since coming into our care, Max has already begun treatment for a severe skin infection and painful chronic ear disease. His road to recovery includes medications, medicated mousse treatments, frequent medicated baths, Cytopoint injections, ear medications, and a specialized prescription diet to help calm his skin and start healing his body from the inside out. Despite everything he’s been through, Max is gentle, sweet, and so deserving of comfort and care. We truly believe this boy still has plenty of love and life ahead of him — he just needed someone willing to fight for him. Your support will help cover Max’s ongoing veterinary care, medications, diagnostics, and recovery needs as we work to get him healthy, comfortable, and eventually into a loving forever home. 5/19/26 Update We wanted to share a hopeful update on sweet Max. When Max first came into our care, his skin was painfully inflamed, his ears were severely infected, and his future felt uncertain. But even in the middle of all that discomfort, we knew there was a dog worth fighting for, and we are so grateful we gave him that chance. While we are still waiting on the results of Max’s skin testing so his veterinary team can create a full long-term treatment plan, the improvement we’ve already seen in just one week has been incredible. With consistent medicated baths, medicated mousse treatments, and dedicated care, Max is already starting to heal. The difference is truly amazing! He has grown back a significant amount of hair, his skin is looking healthier, and he finally seems to be getting some much-needed relief and comfort. Seeing Max begin to look and feel more like himself again has been so emotional for everyone involved in his care. After suffering for so long, he’s finally getting the medical attention he desperately needed and deserved. Max still has a road ahead of him, and ongoing treatment and diagnostics will continue as we wait for answers and work toward fully healing his skin and ears. But this progress is such an encouraging sign that brighter days are ahead for this sweet boy. Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared his story, and supported Max on his journey so far. Your kindness is already changing his life in a huge way. 5/29/26 Update We are so happy to share another encouraging update on sweet Max! When Max first entered our care, he was suffering from severe skin disease, painful ear infections, and discomfort that had become overwhelming. Today, while his healing journey is still ongoing, the progress he has made has been nothing short of incredible. Max's skin is still a work in progress, but it is looking significantly better thanks to his medicated baths, medications, specialized care, and the dedication of everyone involved in his recovery. Seeing his skin improve week by week has been incredibly rewarding after all the discomfort he endured for so long. While we are still waiting for the final results of Max's skin testing, we expect to have more answers very soon. Those results will help his veterinary team better understand the root cause of his skin issues and create the most effective long term treatment plan moving forward. Although there is still work ahead, every day brings more progress and more hope. Max is finally receiving the medical care he needed all along, and it is wonderful to see him feeling better and becoming more comfortable in his own skin. His recovery remains an ongoing process, and continued veterinary appointments, diagnostics, medications, and treatment will be essential as we work toward giving Max lasting relief. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated, shared his story, and supported his journey so far. Your generosity is helping give this deserving boy the second chance he almost never received. 6/23/26 Update We wanted to share another update on sweet Max and his ongoing recovery journey. As part of Max's continued veterinary care, his team recently evaluated a mass that had been monitored and causing some concern. We are relieved to report that the cytology results came back as a lipoma, which is a benign fatty mass. After careful discussion, Max's veterinary team decided that surgical removal is not the best option at this time. While the lipoma is growing slowly, removing it would require a very extensive surgery. Given Max's age and the risks associated with such a major procedure, the team feels that monitoring the mass closely is the safest and most compassionate path forward. While this is certainly encouraging news, Max is not out of the woods yet. He continues to require ongoing medical care for the chronic skin and ear conditions that brought him to us in the first place. His recovery has come a long way, but he still needs regular veterinary monitoring, medications, specialized treatments, and continued management to keep him comfortable and healthy. Caring for a senior dog with complex medical needs is an ongoing commitment, and Max's journey is far from over. We are incredibly grateful that this latest test brought reassuring results, but the costs of Max's care continue to add up as we work to give him the quality of life he deserves. Your donations have already helped transform Max's life from a dog whose family had scheduled euthanasia because they could no longer manage his medical needs, to a dog who is finally receiving the treatment, comfort, and second chance he deserves. But he still needs us, and he still needs you. Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared his story, and supported his recovery so far. Every contribution helps provide the ongoing veterinary care, medications, diagnostics, and specialized treatment Max needs as he continues healing. We can't do this without you.

Drift

Drift is a 2 year old Labrador Husky in Tulsa, OK, who needs $2,000 for Left Hind Leg Amputation.

Tulsa, OK

Hey everyone! Well, the time has come for the next step in Drift's medical journey. Her condition has worsened and she now needs a left hind leg amputation. I have done everything I can to prepare for this moment --including switching jobs for more income. However, we are not financially prepared for this step to happen so soon. If you can help, then thank you. Prayers are also accepted. Drift's lump has massively increased in size. I have had multiple vet opinions. We have x-rays telling a partial story. Someone shot Drift with a pellet gun. There are two pellets in her body. The vet theory is that one of the pellets grazed a vein and caused a hematoma and that it may have opened back up which is causing more blood to accumulate under the skin. Immediate amputation needed. Drift reminds me of why I became a dog trainer. She pushes every boundary while loving our family completely. She is a stubborn husky soul that will trot just out of reach if she gets offleash. "Here" is our most practiced command. Drift loves to train and is extremely smart. She is an amazing fifth addition to our home. She even tolerates our two 4-year-olds. Time was not on our side. The vet estimates $1100 or more for this highly complicated surgery alone. If you are unable to help financially, then please share a message of how I've helped your dog with your family and friends. Please Share Drift's Journey. We love you all.

Felix

Felix is a 8 year old Ragamuffin in Weaverville, NC, who needs $4,000 for Hospitalization, Catheter Post Urinary Obstruction.

Weaverville, NC

Felix came into my life 8 years ago, my mom had found him listed on craigslist when he was 6 months old, but the family couldn’t keep him. He was originally intended to be my mom’s cat, but he decided that i was his person and that was that! Felix and I just moved last month into our own home. He’s been my licensed ESA animal for the past 3 or so years- although he’s been helping me since day one. Due to how close Felix and I are, i noticed symptoms as they escalated, and on August 8th took him to the Emergency Vet. I caught it in the early stages, but Felix’s bladder was obstructed. He has FLUTD, or Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease, which is a chronic condition. Poor boy tried to chew his boy parts off due to the pain. He is being cared for at South Asheville Veterinary Emergency. Felix is my everything. He may not know he’s a licensed ESA, but he takes his job very seriously. I have Complex PTSD, and other mental and physical disabilities. Felix literally wakes me up daily and gives me a reason to live. I take better care of myself in order to provide for him. I leash trained him at a young age, so when given the chance, this indoor cat loves to adventure and hunt moths. I am in the long process of getting disability, and so blessed to have just gotten housing through the state. I am on a very fixed income, and the estimate for Felix’s treatment cost is at $4000. I cannot put into words what this cat means to me. He’s my entire life.

Panther

Hope and Healing for Panther

ELBURN, IL • Blind Dog Rescue Alliance

She was adopted into a loving home. Now Panther needs her rescue family once again. When Blind Dog Rescue Alliance first rescued Panther, they hoped her difficult days were behind her. She was adopted by a family that loved her deeply, but sometimes love alone isn't enough to overcome overwhelming medical costs. As Panther's health became more complicated, her family made the heartbreaking decision to return her to BDRA when they could no longer afford the care she desperately needed. It was an act of love, ensuring Panther would have access to the treatment she couldn't receive at home. Panther has already been living with dry eye, cataracts, and glaucoma. Now she's facing another painful challenge: chronic ear infections that have progressed into abscesses. To relieve her pain and stop the infection from spreading, Panther urgently needs a Total Ear Canal Ablation (TECA). During surgery, her entire left ear canal will be removed. Because her left eye has also become severely affected, it will need to be removed as well to give her the best chance at a comfortable, pain free future. Unfortunately, Panther's journey may not end there. After she recovers, she'll see a veterinary dermatologist to determine whether her right ear can be saved. If not, she may need a second TECA surgery. Through every setback, BDRA has remained committed to Panther. They welcomed her back without hesitation and are determined to give her the medical care she deserves. But these specialized surgeries and ongoing treatments come at a significant cost. Your donation will help cover Panther's surgery, follow up care, and the specialized treatment she needs to finally live free from the constant pain of chronic infections. Every gift, no matter the size, helps give Panther the comfort, healing, and second chance she deserves. 8/12/26 Update Panther has reached an important step in her journey toward a life free from pain. After undergoing a CT scan, she had surgery on her left eye and left ear. Her surgical team performed a left ear TECA to remove the chronically infected ear canal, along with the removal of her painfully affected left eye. These procedures are an important step toward giving Panther the comfort and relief she desperately needs. This is only the first stage of her treatment. Once Panther has completely healed, she will need to return for surgery on her right ear. Panther still has a long road ahead, but each procedure brings her closer to a life without the constant pain she has endured. Blind Dog Rescue Alliance remains by her side through every step, committed to giving her the care she needs. Please continue to donate and share Panther’s fundraiser as she recovers and prepares for the next stage of her treatment. Every gift helps this sweet girl move one step closer to the comfortable, happy life she deserves.
