Jimmy Survived a Lifetime of Cruelty. Now He’s Fighting to Survive

WHITESTONE, NY • NYC Second Chance Rescue

Jimmy should have known nothing but kindness. Instead, his body tells a heartbreaking story of unimaginable cruelty and prolonged neglect. When NYC Second Chance Rescue received an urgent call about a dog who had been brutally struck by a car in Queens, volunteers rushed to help. They expected to find an injured dog in need of emergency care. What they found was so much worse. Jimmy was severely emaciated—nothing but skin and bones. He was covered in feces, ticks, and fleas. Deep rope wounds encircled his neck, and an old, infected wound on his head was infested with maggots. And then there was the damage from the car. Jimmy’s front leg was fractured, leaving him in tremendous pain. He was rushed immediately to an emergency hospital, where veterinarians began working to stabilize him and determine just how much this poor dog had endured. ### After extensive X-rays, bloodwork, examinations, and consultations with multiple specialists, Jimmy’s veterinary team uncovered an overwhelming list of medical problems. His front leg is fractured and requires specialized orthopedic surgery. His head wound is severely infected and needs aggressive treatment. Several of his teeth are fractured all the way down to the roots, leaving painful nerves exposed. Because of the extent of the damage, Jimmy will likely need most, if not all, of his teeth removed by a dental specialist. He also has corneal scarring in one eye—another sign of trauma from his past. And then came another devastating diagnosis: Jimmy tested positive for heartworm disease. His heartworm status makes his upcoming surgery even more complicated. His veterinary team is performing additional testing to determine whether microfilariae are circulating in his bloodstream. If they are present, Jimmy will need additional medication and careful monitoring. But his heartworm treatment cannot begin until he is stable enough to undergo the surgeries he desperately needs. ### Jimmy has already survived circumstances no dog should ever have experienced. Now, instead of being left to suffer, Jimmy has people fighting for him. He has veterinarians caring for him. He has rescuers advocating for him. And he has a chance to finally learn what safety, comfort, and love feel like. But that chance comes with an enormous medical cost. Jimmy is preparing for surgery to repair his fractured leg, and his treatment will not end there. His dental procedures, wound care, heartworm treatment, additional diagnostics, medications, hospitalization, and ongoing monitoring will all add to his growing medical bills. Jimmy’s road to recovery is going to be long—and he needs us beside him every step of the way. 💜 Will you help Jimmy get the care he needs to finally leave his painful past behind? Every donation helps NYC Second Chance Rescue continue providing the emergency and specialty veterinary care Jimmy needs to survive and heal. And if you aren't able to donate, please share Jimmy’s story. A single share could put his story in front of someone who can help. Jimmy has spent far too long suffering. Now, he deserves the chance to spend the rest of his life knowing only love. 🐾

Keru

Keru Fought to Survive. Now He Needs Us to Fight Back.

Pinehurst, TX • Soltis Hope Street Animal Rescue

How long had Keru been living like this? Part of his nose gone, an open wound left to fester, dead tissue and maggots where his face used to be? We may never know exactly how it happened, though the wound suggests something sharp caused it. What we do know is that this street dog suffered far longer than any animal should have to. When Solti's Hope Street Animal Rescue found Keru, he was thin, weak, and in poor body condition. Somehow, though, carrying this devastating injury, he had kept fighting to survive. Keru is now safe in our sanctuary clinic, but his recovery is only beginning. So much skin and tissue have been lost that the wound cannot be closed with sutures. It must heal slowly, in the open, while we fight the infection and give healthy tissue the chance to grow. Every day means careful cleaning, debriding damaged tissue, and closely managing his pain. Keru will always carry scars. He has permanently lost part of his nose, and his face may never look the way it once did. But he is alive, and after everything he has endured, that is nothing short of remarkable. Your donation will give Keru: 🐾 Intensive daily wound care and infection control 🐾 Pain relief and medication 🐾 Nutritious food to rebuild his strength 🐾 Vaccinations and future neutering Keru survived long enough for help to finally reach him. Now it's our turn to make sure that help doesn't stop. Please consider a donation today. This poor boy has suffered alone for far too long. Now he has all of us. 7/21/26 Update: Keru's Wound is Beginning to Heal Remember Keru? The gentle street dog who was found with part of his nose completely missing, leaving a horrific open wound filled with dead tissue and maggots. It is suspected that his devastating injury may have been deliberately inflicted with a sharp object, though what happened may never be known for certain. Whatever the cause, Keru had been suffering for a very long time before he was finally rescued. It has now been just over one week since Keru came into Soltis Hope Street Animal Rescue's care, and although his wound still looks shocking, it is healing far better than anyone had hoped. The infection is gone. All of the dead, necrotic tissue has been removed, and healthy new tissue is growing beautifully. The wound is now a healthy pink color, showing that Keru's body is finally able to begin healing. Because there wasn't enough healthy skin and tissue remaining, the wound could not be closed with sutures. Its location on his face also makes bandaging impossible, so Keru continues to receive careful wound cleaning, medication, and supportive care several times each day as the area heals naturally. While this is an encouraging step forward, Keru still has a long road ahead. Ongoing treatment and daily medical care remain essential to helping him continue healing comfortably. Thank you for standing beside Keru during his recovery. Your generosity is making this life-saving care possible. 8/8/26 Update: Keru's Sweet Spirit Continues to Shine One of the best parts of Keru's recovery has been watching his personality emerge. Despite everything he has endured, Keru is eating and drinking well, has received his first vaccinations, and continues to show everyone what a gentle, loving boy he truly is. Although part of his nose can never grow back, Keru continues to receive daily wound care and monitoring as he heals. Every day brings him one step closer to a life free from the pain and suffering he endured for so long. Thank you to everyone who has donated to Keru's fundraiser. Your kindness is giving him the medical care, comfort, and second chance he deserves. Soltis Hope Street Animal Rescue will continue to share updates as Keru's journey continues.

Warrior

CRITICAL: Pup’s face consumed by horrific eroding tumors

Kewaskum, WI • Pawsitive Sanctuary Inc

When we first laid eyes on Warrior, we honestly thought he had survived some kind of explosion. His face was grotesquely swollen and torn, with deep, hollowed craters carved across his muzzle. It was shocking. Graphic. Almost impossible to process. We prepared ourselves for a single catastrophic injury. But the reality was even more heartbreaking. Warrior’s wounds weren’t caused by one tragic event. His face is covered in multiple tumors—masses that have grown unchecked for far too long. Several have ruptured, leaving raw, open cavities where healthy skin should be. This didn’t happen overnight. This is the result of prolonged, untreated suffering. Tumor after tumor growing, stretching, breaking down—while he somehow continued trying to eat, move, and survive on his own. And no one stepped in. When our team brought Warrior to safety, our veterinary staff immediately began stabilizing him. His open wounds are being gently cleaned and flushed, though every touch causes pain. The ruptured areas are highly vulnerable to infection. We’ve taken samples of the masses and sent them off for testing to determine exactly what we’re facing—and whether these tumors are cancerous. Right now, we don’t have all the answers. But we do know this: Warrior is in pain, and he needs urgent care. In these critical days, he requires intensive wound management, strong pain control, antibiotics if infection sets in, diagnostic testing, and constant monitoring as we wait for results and map out the next steps. He is finally safe—but safety alone won’t heal him. Cases like Warrior’s are overwhelming in every way—emotionally, medically, and financially. The level of treatment he needs is extensive and ongoing, and we simply cannot shoulder it alone. Please, if you are able, consider donating toward Warrior’s emergency care. Every single dollar helps us continue his treatment and gives him a real chance at relief and recovery. If donating isn’t possible, sharing his story could connect him to someone who can help. Warrior has endured enough alone. Please help us fight for him.

Calla Lilly

From Pain to Hope: Calla Lily’s Journey

La Mesa, CA • The Animal Pad

This sweet girl was found in Mexico after being hit by a car and left without medical care for who knows how long. Somehow, despite the unimaginable pain she endured, Calla Lily never lost her spirit. She greets everyone with a wagging tail, leans in for love, and refuses to give up. When The Animal Pad rescued her, we discovered she had already lost one of her legs, making her a tripod — but the injury had never been properly treated. Part of her hip bone remained exposed, leaving her vulnerable to constant pain, infection, and further suffering. And yet, she kept moving forward. Thanks to emergency veterinary care, Calla Lily has now undergone surgery to address the exposed bone and finally begin the healing process she deserved all along. She is currently recovering safely in a loving foster home, where for the first time, she can rest without fear. But her journey isn’t over. Her emergency surgery, diagnostics, medications, follow-up care, and recovery expenses are significant, and we need your help to continue giving Calla Lily the future she deserves — one filled with comfort, safety, and love instead of pain. Dogs like Calla Lily remind us why rescue matters. Despite everything humans failed to give her, she still trusts, still loves, and still wags her tail. Please consider donating to help us cover Calla Lily’s medical care and recovery. Every dollar helps give this resilient girl a second chance at life. Because after everything she’s endured, she deserves the chance to finally heal. 🩷 5/19/26 Update We are so happy to share an incredible update on Calla Lily! Just a few weeks after surgery, this resilient girl is absolutely thriving. After everything she endured, being hit by a car, left without medical care, and living with an exposed bone that caused unimaginable pain, seeing Calla Lily happy, energetic, and full of life feels nothing short of amazing. Her foster family says you would never guess she just underwent major surgery. She’s constantly on the move, loves going on walks, sleeps cuddled up with her beloved stuffies, and makes it her personal mission to give nose kisses to everyone in the house. One of her favorite things? Licking yogurt tubs completely clean. Despite all the suffering she was put through before rescue, Calla Lily continues to love with her whole heart. Her joy, resilience, and affection have been such a beautiful reminder of why rescue matters so deeply. She is recovering wonderfully in foster care and finally getting to experience what safety, comfort, and love feel like. Watching her personality shine brighter every day has been incredibly emotional for everyone involved in her journey. While she still has follow up care and recovery ahead of her, we are beyond grateful for how far she has already come. None of this would have been possible without the support of people who believed she deserved a second chance. Thank you for helping us give Calla Lily the life she always deserved. One filled with love, soft beds, walks, stuffies, yogurt snacks, and endless nose kisses. 5/29/26 Update Calla Lily continues to remind us every day just how resilient and special she is. Her foster family recently took her to the beach for the very first time, and she absolutely loved it. Watching this sweet girl explore the sand, take in new sights and smells, and enjoy such a simple adventure was incredibly heartwarming. Moments like these are exactly why we fight so hard for dogs like Calla Lily. She's also been hard at work learning new things. Her foster family has been teaching her "sit" and "paw," and they say she's getting better with each day. Despite everything she endured before rescue, Calla Lily is eager to learn, eager to please, and soaking up all the love and attention she's receiving. Perhaps the biggest update of all is how comfortable she's become in her foster home. Her foster family says she has turned into their favorite snuggle buddy, always happy to curl up close and enjoy some affection. Seeing her feel safe enough to relax, trust, and bond so deeply with the people around her has been incredibly rewarding. It's hard to believe this is the same dog who was found suffering after being hit by a car and left without proper medical care. The pain, fear, and uncertainty she once faced are slowly being replaced by beach days, training sessions, cozy naps, and the love every dog deserves. While Calla Lily still has ongoing medical expenses and follow up care related to her recovery, she continues to make wonderful progress thanks to the support of this community. Every donation, share, and kind word has helps make these happy moments possible. Thank you for joining Calla Lily's journey. Watching her heal, learn, and experience life's simple joys for the first time is been nothing short of incredible, and we can't wait to share more updates as this amazing girl continues her recovery. 6/23/26 Update Calla Lily continues to amaze us with her resilience, sweetness, and unstoppable spirit. Since our last update, this special girl got to experience another beautiful first: her foster took her on her very first vacation to Las Vegas! After everything Calla Lily endured before rescue, seeing her safely enjoy new places, new experiences, and life as a loved dog has been incredibly emotional. These are the moments we dreamed of for her when she first came into our care in such painful condition. Calla Lily has also been busy showing off just how wonderful she is. She has attended our last three adoption events, and to absolutely no one’s surprise, she was a huge hit. Everyone who meets her is quickly won over by her sweet personality, happy spirit, and the way she continues to trust and love despite everything she has been through. But even with all this progress, Calla Lily’s journey is not over. She is still recovering, still adapting to life as a tripod, and still receiving the follow-up care she needs after her emergency surgery. Her healing has been beautiful to witness, but recovery takes time, consistency, and continued medical support. There are still ongoing expenses for her veterinary care, monitoring, medications, and everything needed to keep her comfortable as she continues to heal. Calla Lily has come so far from the injured dog who was found in Mexico after being hit by a car and left without proper care. Today, she is experiencing vacations, adoption events, snuggles, love, and safety, but she still needs our community behind her as she continues this next chapter. Your donations help make every step of her recovery possible. They help cover the care that got her here and the ongoing support she still needs as she heals, adjusts, and waits for the forever home she so deeply deserves. 7/9/26 Update We have the happiest update to share... Calla Lily has officially been adopted! Now renamed Clover, this sweet girl has found the loving forever home she always deserved after everything she endured. She has joined two furry siblings, and it sounds like she has settled in beautifully. Her new family says Clover loves playing, chewing on her toys, and chasing her siblings around the house. They recently bought her a Casper dog bed, but apparently she'd much rather be curled up on the couch with her family. We can't say we blame her! Watching Clover go from a dog who was found in Mexico after being hit by a car and left to suffer without medical care to a beloved family member has been nothing short of incredible. Every milestone in her journey has been possible because compassionate supporters believed she deserved a second chance. While we are overjoyed that Clover's story has such a happy ending, we're still working to cover the costs of the emergency care that made this future possible. Her surgery, diagnostics, medications, follow-up appointments, and recovery required significant veterinary care, and those expenses don't disappear once a pet is adopted. If you're able, please consider making a donation to help us cover Clover's medical expenses. Your support not only helps us finish paying for the care she received, but also allows us to say "yes" to the next animal who needs lifesaving treatment.

Baby

Baby is a 7 Year Old Dachshund in Lenoir, NC, Who Needs $1,728 for Senior Dental Cleaning and Extraction.

lenoir, NC

Let me introduce you to Baby. I am Baby’s Groomer. Baby belongs to a lovely elderly lady. She is a tiny dachshund with a big, loving heart. I groom her regularly, and every time she comes in, her little tail wags like she’s greeting an old friend. Her elderly isa widow who loves her dearly. Baby is her comfort, her only company, and her joy in the quiet of her days. Baby is in pain. Her teeth have gotten so bad that she struggles to eat, and when I look in her eyes, I can see that she’s hurting. Her owner doesn’t fully understand how serious Baby’s dental condition is, and she simply doesn’t have the means to help. I can see Baby’s health diminishing because of her critical need. She loves Baby deeply, but the situation has grown beyond what she can manage. Baby is so loving to everyone and has provided so much companionship. She deserves to be healthy. My desperate plea and prayer is Baby can get the dental care she urgently needs to live without pain. I’ve promised to personally help with Baby’s after-care so that her owner isn’t overwhelmed. I just want Baby to be able to enjoy life again… to eat, to play, to wag, and to simply be the healthy. Baby’s owner is a widow, lives very humble and has a fixed income.Saving her loving little companion would be enormous. The condition of Baby’s teeth is deteriorating rapidly. Her owner takes her in for regular checkups and preventatives but this expense is beyond her means

Alice

Alice is a 1 year old German Shepherd Dog in Eupora, MS, who needs $2,000 for Ilial Body Fix - Bone Plate & Screws.

Eupora, MS

Alice was born August 19, 2024. We found her on September 5, in the woods behind the kennel where her mom had abandoned her. She had a gash on her head and a raw place on her tummy from where she had been lying in the mud. We brought her inside and started bottle feeding her. I would take her to work with me everyday. I named her Alice because the place I work has an Alice in Wonderland theme. Alice was a happy, healthy, 1-yr-old German Shepherd full of life and energy. She was hit by a car on September 27. This accident resulted in a broken pelvis. We found her where she had pulled herself out of the road. We took her to Smith Animal Hospital where they did xrays showing the extent of the damage. He referred us to Magnolia Veterinary Surgery where she will undergo surgery on October 1 Alice has been a special dog since Day 1. She is super sweet and sassy, She's also extremely smart. She loves to play with her squeaky toys, explore in the woods, and swim in the pond. She loves to play with Zeus and Suzy the most out of all her dog family. She's also super spoiled and loved by the customers who have known her since she was the tiny puppy I would bring to work with me every day. I am on disability and depend on my little part time job to make ends meet. This surgery is going to put a significant strain on my finances. I want her to have this surgery because she has shown such a will to live. I think she still has many years of life in her.
