From a Hoarding Home to Healing: Help Three Rescued Kittens

When NY Cat Warriors rescued Newt, Toast, and Baby Veg from a hoarding situation, all three kittens came into their care with medical issues and in need of help. Toast, a young tabby, was suffering from severe diarrhea and an upper respiratory infection. One of his eyes was so swollen that it was completely shut, requiring immediate veterinary attention. Newt, a little black kitten, was also battling an upper respiratory infection and was vomiting when he came into the rescue's care. Baby Veg, the white and black kitten, was part of the same group rescued from the hoarding situation and, like the others, arrived with medical concerns of his own. These kittens had already been through far too much at such a young age, but with veterinary treatment and the dedicated care of their foster families, they have been given the chance to recover. Toast's eye is improving, his appetite has returned, and he is now eating like a champion. Although he remains shy and a little skittish, he continues to show everyone what a brave little boy he is. Newt has been just as resilient. He may be understandably tired of all the medications and treatment, but he continues taking everything in stride as he works toward feeling better. Unfortunately, the group recently encountered another medical setback. As Newt was preparing to go to a foster-to-adopt home, testing revealed that he has coccidia, an intestinal parasite that can cause gastrointestinal illness, particularly in vulnerable young kittens. Because Newt, Toast, and Baby Veg all came from the same hoarding situation, there is concern that the entire group was exposed. NY Cat Warriors is treating the kittens with Albon to address the coccidia and help them continue on the road to recovery. The good news is that their eye infections are resolving, and these little ones are moving in the right direction. But getting three kittens healthy after such a difficult start takes time, medication, veterinary care, and a lot of hands on support. The Road to Safety Depends on This Van- Help Keep Lifesaving Transports on the Road

Before sunrise, volunteers with One by One Animal Advocates load dogs and cats into their transport van, each one beginning a journey toward a second chance. Some are leaving overcrowded shelters where time has run out. Others are traveling to foster homes, rescue partners, or adopters waiting to welcome them into loving families. Many have never known kindness before that moment. For these animals, this isn't just a ride. It's the trip that saves their lives. Since June 2024, this single transport van has become one of the rescue's most valuable tools. Nearly every Saturday, volunteers drive more than 600 miles across West Virginia and Maryland, spending up to 14 hours on the road coordinating lifesaving rescue transports. During the week, the van continues making trips to Cincinnati, Akron, and Youngstown to bring vulnerable animals to safety. In just two years, the van has traveled an incredible 110,000 miles helping save countless dogs and cats. But after so many miles spent serving animals in need, the van itself now needs help. During the most recent transport, the driver noticed the van becoming difficult to control around curves. A mechanical inspection revealed serious repairs are urgently needed, including a replacement rear differential, transfer case repairs, and new brakes. Without these repairs, the van cannot safely continue the lifesaving journeys that so many animals depend on. Every day the van is off the road means animals waiting longer for rescue, longer for medical care, longer for foster homes—and in some cases, losing the opportunity for a second chance altogether. Kissy, short for (吉祥) Kisshō and meaning lucky omen, was born into our family on St. Patrick's Day 2006. The daughter to my mother's kitty Lita, who just showed up one day and decided she would be moving in. Oh and btw I'm pregnant, surprise! And surprise it was because my little kissy was the beautiful blessing, my lucky kitty that came from that wonderful day. My kissy has a lump growing on her belly the vets at Banfield say $300 just to find out what it is then $500+ for removal options. Due to age she also has some bad teeth that need removal, depending on difficulty the range goes over $1000. I love my baby with all my heart and she is still strong and full of love. Given treatment she could live many more happy years with her family. My kissy is the sweetest baby. She adores snuggles on my lap and lounging in one of her many fine beds. My wife and I are blessed to call her and her daughter Dora family.(named for being the first kitten to leave her birthplace and explore the rest of the house) she has been with us since the day she was born and I simply don't have the words to explain how much I love her and need to help her. Our sweet boy is a beloved member of our family and means the world to us. He is affectionate, loving, and has always brought so much happiness into our home. Seeing him suddenly become weak and unable to walk normally has been heartbreaking. We are doing everything possible to give him the care he deserves. He suddenly developed severe weakness, especially in his front legs, difficulty walking, neck pain and unusual behavior. Blood tests were mostly normal, but our veterinarian is concerned about a neurological condition involving his neck, including possible meningitis. He needs additional neurological testing and specialized veterinary care. He is not just a pet — he is family. He has filled our home with love, companionship, and joy every single day. Watching him struggle to walk and lose his normal energy has been heartbreaking. We want nothing more than to see him comfortable, strong, and able to enjoy life with us again. Lily came into our lives as a puppy after being left behind. From the moment we met her, we knew she was meant to be part of our family. She is loving, loyal, silly, and full of personality loves to swim. She has been by our side through everything and has brought us so much love and happiness. Absecon veterinary hospital Lily was hospitalized after suddenly becoming very weak, shaking, and vomiting. She is in a lot of pain and her blood pressure is elevated. Her stomach is also extended from pancreatitis, so the doctors want to keep her monitored and make sure there isn’t a blockage. She has been with us through thick and thin, the good times and the bad. She isn’t just our dog, she’s family. She has given us unconditional love and comfort through so many moments in our lives. Her recovery means so much to us because we can’t imagine our family without her. We just want to give her the chance to get better and keep making memories together. We never expected to be in a position where we would need to ask for help, but her vet care has become more than we can manage on our own. We are doing everything we can for her, but the cost of her treatment is overwhelming. I was blessed with Kumo in May of 2025. He joins Luna, my 3 1/2 year old Chow Chow. The 2 became fast friends, Luna, like a mother to Kumo & Kumo, a shadow to Luna. Kumo LOVES water of all kinds: sprinklers, garden hoses, & swimming in lakes (not a typical chow in this regard)! A perfect day for Kumo and Luna includes hiking, swimming, and laying in the shade on the porch! After a walk, Kumo & Luna went sprinting around the back of the house only seconds later to return with Kumo limping (holding his back left leg completely off the ground). After rest and leash walking for a few weeks, with no improvement (non-weight bearing), I learned that Kumo needs cruciate ligament TPLO surgery in order to have use of this leg and to avoid the pain he continues to be in. Kumo loves children of all ages! He gets quite vocal with his "grumbles" when he's excited & wants to play. He is very smart and well behaved and has great recall. He knows kisses & sit in Polish. He and Luna are joined at the hip and he is a total mama's boy. His injury not only breaks my heart as his "mom", but Luna shows concern as well, and isnt quite sure why he can't play like before. In the past few years I have experienced chronic health issues that have created an extreme financial burden. Unfortunately, I am still receiving treatment which makes it difficult to manage my own finances and also Kumo's surgery. It would mean so much to receive some help!

Keru Fought to Survive. Now He Needs Us to Fight Back.

How long had Keru been living like this? Part of his nose gone, an open wound left to fester, dead tissue and maggots where his face used to be? We may never know exactly how it happened, though the wound suggests something sharp caused it. What we do know is that this street dog suffered far longer than any animal should have to. When Solti's Hope Street Animal Rescue found Keru, he was thin, weak, and in poor body condition. Somehow, though, carrying this devastating injury, he had kept fighting to survive. Keru is now safe in our sanctuary clinic, but his recovery is only beginning. So much skin and tissue have been lost that the wound cannot be closed with sutures. It must heal slowly, in the open, while we fight the infection and give healthy tissue the chance to grow. Every day means careful cleaning, debriding damaged tissue, and closely managing his pain. Keru will always carry scars. He has permanently lost part of his nose, and his face may never look the way it once did. But he is alive, and after everything he has endured, that is nothing short of remarkable. Now he has all of us. 7/21/26 Update: Keru's Wound is Beginning to Heal Remember Keru? The gentle street dog who was found with part of his nose completely missing, leaving a horrific open wound filled with dead tissue and maggots. It is suspected that his devastating injury may have been deliberately inflicted with a sharp object, though what happened may never be known for certain. Whatever the cause, Keru had been suffering for a very long time before he was finally rescued. It has now been just over one week since Keru came into Soltis Hope Street Animal Rescue's care, and although his wound still looks shocking, it is healing far better than anyone had hoped. The infection is gone. All of the dead, necrotic tissue has been removed, and healthy new tissue is growing beautifully. The wound is now a healthy pink color, showing that Keru's body is finally able to begin healing. Because there wasn't enough healthy skin and tissue remaining, the wound could not be closed with sutures. Its location on his face also makes bandaging impossible, so Keru continues to receive careful wound cleaning, medication, and supportive care several times each day as the area heals naturally. While this is an encouraging step forward, Keru still has a long road ahead. Ongoing treatment and daily medical care remain essential to helping him continue healing comfortably. Your generosity is making this life-saving care possible. 8/8/26 Update: Keru's Sweet Spirit Continues to Shine One of the best parts of Keru's recovery has been watching his personality emerge. Although part of his nose can never grow back, Keru continues to receive daily wound care and monitoring as he heals. CRITICAL: Pup’s face consumed by horrific eroding tumors

When we first laid eyes on Warrior, we honestly thought he had survived some kind of explosion. His face was grotesquely swollen and torn, with deep, hollowed craters carved across his muzzle. It was shocking. Graphic. Almost impossible to process. We prepared ourselves for a single catastrophic injury. But the reality was even more heartbreaking. Warrior’s wounds weren’t caused by one tragic event. His face is covered in multiple tumors—masses that have grown unchecked for far too long. Several have ruptured, leaving raw, open cavities where healthy skin should be. This didn’t happen overnight. This is the result of prolonged, untreated suffering. Tumor after tumor growing, stretching, breaking down—while he somehow continued trying to eat, move, and survive on his own. And no one stepped in. When our team brought Warrior to safety, our veterinary staff immediately began stabilizing him. His open wounds are being gently cleaned and flushed, though every touch causes pain. The ruptured areas are highly vulnerable to infection. We’ve taken samples of the masses and sent them off for testing to determine exactly what we’re facing—and whether these tumors are cancerous. Right now, we don’t have all the answers. But we do know this: Warrior is in pain, and he needs urgent care. In these critical days, he requires intensive wound management, strong pain control, antibiotics if infection sets in, diagnostic testing, and constant monitoring as we wait for results and map out the next steps. He is finally safe—but safety alone won’t heal him. Cases like Warrior’s are overwhelming in every way—emotionally, medically, and financially. The level of treatment he needs is extensive and ongoing, and we simply cannot shoulder it alone. Please, if you are able, consider donating toward Warrior’s emergency care.
