Meeko is the baby when it comes to our family of 6, cats and dogs that is! Meeko will be 3 this April and we have had him since he was a few months old. He is quite a character and a little piglet. He hates hot weather (much like his mom). He loves spending his days playing ball with his brother and pappy. He loves food more than anything in the world and enjoys a good nap throughout the day. Meeko starts his day by announcing breakfast to his older sister and brother. He gets very excited! He spends his days hanging out on the couch with his brother or playing on the floor with his pap. He is very close to his 2 brothers, one of which is another Cavalier named Max and a cat named Kylo. At night he sleeps in bed with his pap, doggy brother and sister and sometimes even Kylo! Meeko is super silly. He makes silly faces, and sometimes has silly hair. He is so sweet and wants so badly to be a lap dog even though he is on the heavier side. He loves a good belly rub. He has the saddest puppy eyes sometimes and those are the moments I wish I could take any pain or sadness away. He is a great brother to his dog and cat siblings. Meeko had surgery for foreign body at BluePearl Pittsburgh North on Saturday. He did poorly post-op and suffered from regurgitation and inappetence. By Tuesday he was doing better and set up to be discharged later that day. That afternoon he became lethargic and regurgitated several times. Doctors in the ER and Surgery Dept found an internal abscess. He had to have a second surgery. The cost of initial surgery was all we could put on CareCredit but our bill keeps increasing due to furthering need of care. We miss him dearly and he is fighting so hard. Such a sweet angel that deserves to come home safe and sound.

Hermoine had been wandering a neighborhood for months, showing up hungry, disappearing for stretches, and slowly declining. By the time Rescue Kitties of Hawaii stepped in to rescue her, she was in rough shape—very underweight, dirty, and struggling to eat. Despite everything she had endured, all she wanted was love. Once they got her safe and seen by a veterinarian, they learned just how much she had been suffering. Hermione is only 3 years old, but her body tells a much harder story. She is FIV+, and she has severe gingival stomatitis—a painful, chronic condition causing extreme inflammation and infection in her mouth. She is missing multiple teeth, likely has roots remaining, and has lesions along her gums. Eating is painful, and at times she avoids food and even water because of it. On top of that, she is being treated for lungworms and parasites, adding another layer to her recovery. The only way to truly relieve her pain is a full dental procedure to remove her remaining diseased teeth. This will allow her to eat comfortably, regain weight, and finally start to heal. Hermione is incredibly gentle and affectionate. She just wants a safe, quiet home and someone to love her. Because she is FIV+, she will need a peaceful environment with compatible cats or to be the only pet. Right now, their focus is getting her out of pain, and they can't do it without you. Dental surgery is costly, but it will completely change the course of her life. With proper care, FIV+ cats can live long, happy lives—and Hermione deserves that chance. RKH rescued her so she wouldn’t have to suffer alone anymore. Now we’re asking for help to give her the life she’s been waiting for. She has a microchip, and they found her original owner. Hermoine got lost over 2 years ago, and her owner moved back to the mainland. RKH even offered to fly her back to her, but she said she no longer wants to own a cat. Please help us let Hermione know that she is still loved and cared for and deserves a chance at a happy, healthy life. Thank you.

Gato came into our life when we arrived at the shelter to adopt a kitten in need and saw just one kitten out of the many up and about and wanting to leave their enclosure. He has been a spunky, furry and full of life character that has brought us much joy and happiness. I am a full time student going into my senior year and need help with providing with his emergency bill. Unfortunately Gato fell from a tree near the second story balcony. We found him after he had fallen and he appeared to have injured his belly. We rushed him to MedVet Emergency in San Jose where they determined that his likely suffered a bladder rupture from his fall. He needed emergency surgery for the injury to be suture and cleaned as well as a few days stay at the clinic. Gato is very special to me because he is full of spunk and attitude. He is catty just as any other feline because he likes his personal space but he also is very warm and loving when the time is right. He is so gentle despite having tiny weapons hidden in his mittens and seems to know just how to bring fun and joy to everyday life. He has taught me a lot about cats and some about myself as well. I am a full time student and work part time to cover my basic expenses. I have one year left of school and honestly dont know how I will be able to afford this bill. He is a young cat and deserves the chance to live on especially since his injury is highly treatable.

I've had birds my entire life. My 1st was a Yellow-nape Amazon, then African Grey, now and for 21yrs, Tasha. She's a Cockatoo and there's a picture when I got her at a few weeks. Started feeding her with an eye dropper. Weaned her to solid food. She was born May 25 2005. She has a large 6ft stainless steel cage, has her own room and is the friendliest bird I've ever had. Love to cuddle At about 14-15 yrs she started lying an egg once a yr. About 17 yrs she started to prolapse,went to the vet,tried things to stop it,we made her opening a big smaller,that lasted 6 months, we tried another operation($2500) about 1 yr ago. Knowing I could not pay for it(I'm disabled and 61 yrs) I put it on a Credit Card cause her life supersedes my credit score. Exotic Vet in Mount Pleasent S.C. Tasha is the sweetest bird u'd ever meet. She loves al, never bit a soul. Anyone can handle her...She'd rather be in your lap than anywhere else. She says her name "Hello Tasha".....She's not a screamer or annoying like some birds can get. I've always let he roam free around the house before this prolapse issue, but now I can not cause at times she drips blood. My only other option is euthanize I have had birds my entire life, never had this kind of expense..I'm 61 yrs old, disabled on a $994 a month income. Monkey

My former roommate's dachshund stayed behind of his own choosing when the roommate moved out. He is now my emotional support animal going across the country on work runs. When he is not working he is lounging on the bed or marking his territory outside. He lives with me, my wife, kids, grandpa, Ethan the dachshund, Sunny the opossum, and three cats. When Monkey is off the clock, he spends his days lounging around and eating. Though he is a boring dog so is his owner. We love to spend hours just sitting beside one another staring out of a window together, no television required. When we cook, Monkey is close behind ready to lay beside me while I cook. After police nepotism last year, my family was left financially gutted. Problem grew worse in January of this year when Monkey experienced police brutality. He was dropped on the road by state troopers during an illegal stop and search. He deserves a good retirement. His past medical history is full of unknown unknowns. Current events have exasperated and quickened the decline of his health, mainly the structural integrity of his jaw. Hospital for Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery was able to perform the repair but Monkey requires two more visits and we cannot cover the cost. Monkey is special because he makes himself special. He inserts himself into every situation he is able to with a boisterous attitude. Just the other day we were on the job explaining what was needed to alleviate a workplace situation, and Monkey proceeds to visualize the situation by upchucking on the floor. His health mirrors mine in a lot of ways like the periodontal disease he suffers from.

Ruby came to us at 3 years old from a rescue. She took no time at all integrating into our family. She may be tiny but her personality is huge! She is all about the cuddles. Ruby is our baby. After losing her sister Lulu (a rat terrier) at 17 from heart failure and her brother (a xolo) Walter at age 20, Ruby has become her big brother sams (11 year old Staffy) rock and pillar. Sam and Ruby have an extraordinary bond. Ruby has also stepped into role as an ESA. Ruby may be tiny but she be fierce! She lost her eyesight last year and her hind legs usage around the same time. Nothing slows her (or her wagging tail down. Ruby developed an inguinal hernia and. The vet is confident that it should be a simple fix, as confident one can be on the side of caution. It is better to fix the hernia now, as it could lead to further, problems. Ruby still has the ability to get around on her own, despite her challenges. Like many other families, quality and affordable veterinary care can be difficult. The cost of living is relatively high right now, and insane in California. After losing 2 pets at the end of 2022, keeping Ruby in our lives would mean keeping our family whole.

We met Charlie (aka Tommy) at the end of March and adopted him from a small rescue. He was a nervous little fellow, but you could clearly see he had a gentle/calmness about him. The rescue shared his story and the challenges he had with pneumonia. We fell in love and are committed to helping him. He lives with a family of 6. 4 great kids 16-8 years of age. He is adored by our Toby! K-9 Charlie is a very special boy. When he first arrived to our home he was quite overwhelmed. Under the table or in his kennel was his favorite place to be. The only thing that got him to come out was his new friend Toby. Watching Toby have so much fun with Charlie makes us smile every day! He's never far from anyone hoping to give a little love to and always curled closely to Toby when we aren't. Charlie needed to learn how to trust people. As a military family we've learned how to recognize and understand the effects of trauma. His fear of men, makes us very suspicious that there's been some kind of abuse that happened before he was rescued by Nite Howls. Watching the two dogs play, interact and connect puts a smile on all our faces daily. After only a week t they became best buds! So unfortunately a day after we adopted Charlie, we started to see some abnormal movements. We noticed that he would stand on top of his paws and even try to walk that way. We have since found out this is called knuckling and normally is a sign of a neurological condition. We also noticed that his back legs didn't move or operate in a normal, We need a specialist opinion to proceed ASAP. Being a proud military family of 6, but for the past 4 years we've had a very medically fragile child many hospitalizations, Specialist and homeschooling. Because of this, we became a one income family. We were not prepared for this medical need. We want to save Charlie!

But Emily and her husband just got devastating news. Archie's bones developed incorrectly, and he needs surgery in both legs to correct the conditions so he can walk without pain. Emily and her husband are panicking because they can't afford the operation. "I am still paying off medical debt, paying for grad school, which is a requirement for my job as a teacher, and working part-time," Emily says. "My husband can barely provide for us solo, and these surgeries are serious unexpected expenses for which we don't have the funds." Please help Archie walk into the new year pain-free!

Tiny Theo Is Fighting for Every Breath. Help This Little Survivor Keep Going

Theodore came into Tiny Cat Animal Rescue's (TCAR) care before his eyes were even open. TCAR was working with a family near the DC/Maryland border who feed a colony of unaltered community cats when one of those cats, a mom, gave birth on a porch. Once a foster was ready, TCAR collected the whole family: the mom, later named Chippie, and four newborn kittens — three boys, Theo, Alvin, and Simon, and their sister Chipette. Within a week, it was clear Chipette wasn't going to make it. She passed away despite everyone's best efforts, from respiratory illness. Chippie wasn't improving much either; after two weeks of antibiotics with no real progress, a vet visit revealed that she's FIV positive. At five weeks old, Theodore's eyes wouldn't stay open. They were crusted shut with discharge that wouldn't clear no matter what his foster tried. By six weeks, he'd stopped eating on his own. His bloodwork showed that he was anemic and fighting a serious infection, but his foster kept at it, giving him eye ointments, antibiotics, and steam showers to help him breathe. And for a little while, it looked like he was turning a corner. On 7/22, at seven weeks old, Theodore weighed just 1.4 pounds, his left eye had swollen shut around a deep ulcer on his cornea, and his breathing had gone from bad to alarming. An X-ray revealed that his entire left lung had collapsed and the vet diagnosed him with severe pneumonia. Theodore was put on oxygen in the clinic to stabilize him, then sent home on different medications, including round-the-clock eye drops. At his 7/29 recheck visit, Theodore had gained weight and his eye was healing, but his left lung still wasn't clearing. An X-ray showed almost no improvement from the week before. His care team has added nebulizer therapy and sent off testing to rule out mycoplasma, a stubborn respiratory infection. Every recheck, every X-ray, every round of bloodwork and medication adds up — and Theodore isn't done yet. He still needs ongoing vet visits, his full medication regimen, and possibly further diagnostics. Additionally, because of Chippie's FIV positive diagnosis, Theo's own FIV status is still an open question: kittens nursed by an FIV positive mother can test positive themselves from her antibodies alone, without being infected, so he and his brothers won't have a reliable answer until they're retested around six months old. It's one more layer of uncertainty on top of an already fragile recovery. Despite everything, Theo is still just a kitten. He loves Churu treats and being swaddled, falls asleep held against his foster's chest while he gets his oxygen, and still nurses from Chippie even now, at almost ten weeks old. But Theodore ("Sweet Theo") is also a fighter and, with your help, Theodore gets to keep fighting. Theo has a severe, ongoing case of pneumonia. While a week of treatment has brought some improvement, his lungs have barely changed on repeat imaging. Results from a respiratory PCR panel revealed Theo has Calicivirus. While his medication routine stays the same unless his symptoms get worse, he now needs to be separated from his siblings and mom to minimize the risk of his family getting it. His care so far has included: - Two full-body X-ray series (7/22 and 7/29), plus radiologist consultation - A F.A.S.T ultrasound - Oxygen chamber support to stabilize his breathing - Corneal staining and ongoing treatment for a deep corneal ulcer, now healing well - Seven medications and counting: azithromycin and Clavamox (failed early on), clindamycin, doxycycline, tobramycin and erythromycin for his eye, and now nebulizer therapy for his lungs - Bloodwork from his 7/10 visit - A full PCR panel from his 7/29 visit Costs so far: - 7/10 visit: $362.99 - 7/22 emergency visit: $1,052.76 - 7/29 recheck visit: $466.42 - Total incurred through 7/29: $1,882.17 Costs likely still ahead (estimates): - Bloodwork at a future recheck: ~$300 - Continued antibiotics, eye drops, and nebulizer supplies: ~$125 - Buffer for complications, a treatment change if mycoplasma or another pathogen is confirmed, or extended oxygen/hospitalization: ~$350 - Other supportive care: ~$350 Theo has overcome impossible odds since the day he was born.
