King

King is a 9 year old Mix-Breed in Columbus, OH, who needs $14,000 for Laparotomy Partial Pancreas Removal.

Columbus, OH

King’s journey with our family began in a very special way. When he was just 11 weeks old, we found him through Craigslist, and from that moment on, he became the heart of our home. On June 21st, King turned 9 years old, surrounded by his family (mom, dad, brother, sister, and his adopted dog sister, Diamond). He has been with us through milestones, celebrations, and everyday moments. On 8/16, King was rushed to the ER after a sudden seizure. He was admitted to OSU's Veterinary Oncology ICU, where doctors discovered he has an insulinoma, a tumor on his pancreas causing dangerous hypoglycemia. His blood sugar drops to life-threatening levels whenever he’s removed from the medications currently sustaining him. He still needs neurological testing & is scheduled for major surgery he is the heart and joy of his family. He is talkative and loves to “chat” with his humans, but wrestling with his dad is one of his favorite activities. His favorite humans are his dad and his sister,(unless he's in trouble-then he's a mamas boy) and he especially loves watching videos on his sister’s phone. His big personality, goofiness, & gentle heart make him truly one-of-a-kind gentle giant His ICU stay, surgery, and treatments are expected to total nearly $14,000, not including the lifelong medication and quarterly scans he will need to stay healthy. His family is doing everything they can to provide him with the best care possible, but this sudden and urgent

Harper

Harper is a 5 month old Siberian Husky in Limerick , ME, who needs $2,000 for Leg Amputation.

Limerick, ME

Harper came into my life in March. She’s a woolly coat husky from the same parents as my beloved Dasher, who passed away in 2024. I brought her home on March 15 to help heal my heart after losing Dasher, who had been helping me cope with a traumatic event. Harper bonded closely with me and quickly became my shadow, bringing comfort and light when I need it most. She needs me more than ever now. Soon after I brought Harper home, my older sick dog bit her, breaking her front leg in two places. Ross Corner Animal Wellness did X-rays and referred us to Portland Specialty Care. Surgery would require multiple procedures with little chance of success. To avoid chronic pain, the surgeon recommends amputation for the best quality of life. For now she is relying on pain meds for comfort. Harper is SO special. She is the most gentle dog EVER. she cuddles and has such a free spirit. She LOVES KIDS. I have a special needs daughter and cat and now Harper fits right in lol. She brings joy and comfort to our whole household. Everyone who meets her falls in love with her. She is also incredibly beautiful and has a rare husky coat that =makes her stand out. I LOVE HER! I’m a single mom working hard to make ends meet. Between raising my daughters and covering daily expenses, I can’t afford Harper’s surgery and it kills me. She’s family, and I just want to give her the pain-free life she deserves.

License Your Way Home

License Your Way Home in Santa Maria, CA, needs $2,000 for Keeping Pets with their Families!

Santa Maria, CA • Santa Barbara County Animal Services

Santa Barbara County Animal Services Rabies vaccinations and dog licenses are fundamental components of responsible pet ownership. Not only do they ensure the health and safety of individual pets, they also protect the broader community from the risks associated with rabies and unregulated dog populations. However, for many dog owners, especially those facing financial hardship, the costs associated with these essential services can be prohibitive. This challenge is particularly acute when dogs enter the shelter system and their owners, already burdened by financial stress, are unable to afford the necessary vaccinations and licensing fees. In response to this pressing need, Santa Barbara County would like to launch an initiative aimed at covering the cost of rabies vaccinations and dog licenses for dogs who enter the shelter system and whose owners are unable to pay. This initiative is designed to remove financial barriers, promote public health, and support responsible pet ownership, ultimately reducing the number of unvaccinated and unlicensed dogs in our community. Background and Need Rabies is a deadly disease that poses a significant threat to both animals and humans. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent rabies, and in many areas, it is legally required for dogs. In addition to rabies vaccination, dog licenses serve as a form of identification and a means to ensure that dogs are up to date on their vaccinations. Licensing also provides a way to reunite lost dogs with their owners and helps us monitor and manage the dog population. Though we are able to waive many of our fees, we are unable to waive these. For many low-income families and individuals, the cost of rabies vaccinations and dog licenses can be a significant barrier. When a dog enters the shelter system, these costs can become an even greater burden, especially if the owner is facing additional challenges such as housing instability, unemployment, or health issues. Unfortunately, this financial strain can lead to a cycle where dogs remain unvaccinated and unlicensed, increasing the risk of rabies outbreaks and unregulated dog populations. Initiative Goals and Objectives The primary goal of this initiative is to ensure that all dogs who enter the shelter system are vaccinated against rabies and properly licensed, regardless of their owners' ability to pay. To achieve this goal, the initiative will focus on the following key objectives: - Cover the Cost of Rabies Vaccinations: The initiative will provide funding to cover the cost of rabies vaccinations for all dogs entering the shelter system whose owners are unable to afford this critical service. - Fund Dog Licensing Fees: The initiative will also cover the cost of dog licensing fees for these dogs, ensuring that they are legally registered and can be easily identified if they become lost. - Promote Public Health and Safety: By increasing the number of vaccinated and licensed dogs in the community, the initiative will help reduce the risk of rabies outbreaks and contribute to overall public safety. - Support Responsible Pet Ownership: The initiative will educate dog owners about the importance of rabies vaccinations and licensing, encouraging responsible pet ownership and helping to prevent dogs from entering the shelter system in the first place. Implementation Plan The implementation of this initiative will involve several key steps, each designed to ensure that the program is effective, efficient, and reaches the target population. - Financial Assistance Program: A financial assistance program will be established to cover the costs of rabies vaccinations and dog licenses for eligible dogs. This program will be funded through a combination of grants, donations, and our nonprofit partners and will be administered by Santa Barbara County Animal Services. - Monitoring and Evaluation: To ensure the success of the initiative, a monitoring and evaluation plan will be implemented. This will involve tracking the number of dogs vaccinated and licensed through the program, assessing the impact on public health and safety, and gathering feedback from participants and partners to identify areas for improvement. Expected Outcomes The initiative is expected to have a significant positive impact on both the dogs entering the shelter system and the broader community. The expected outcomes include: - Increased Vaccination Rates: By covering the cost of rabies vaccinations, the initiative will help increase the overall vaccination rate among dogs in the community, reducing the risk of rabies outbreaks and improving public health. - Higher Licensing Compliance: The initiative will also lead to higher rates of dog licensing, which will help us monitor and manage the dog population more effectively and ensure that lost dogs can be quickly reunited with their owners. - Reduced Financial Burden on Dog Owners: By removing the financial barriers associated with rabies vaccinations and dog licensing, the initiative will help alleviate the burden on low-income dog owners, allowing them to focus on other important aspects of responsible pet ownership. - Enhanced Collaboration: The initiative will foster stronger collaboration between animal shelters, veterinary clinics, and local government agencies, leading to more coordinated and effective efforts to address the needs of dogs in the community. - Improved Animal Welfare: Ultimately, the initiative will contribute to improved animal welfare by ensuring that more dogs receive the essential services they need to stay healthy and safe. Sustainability and Future Plans To ensure the long-term sustainability of the initiative, Santa Barbara County will continue to seek funding from a variety of sources, including grants, donations, and fundraising events. Additionally, the initiative will explore opportunities to expand its scope to include other essential services, such as spaying and neutering, microchipping, and basic veterinary care. Over time, the initiative aims to create a model that can be replicated in other communities facing similar challenges, ultimately contributing to a broader movement to ensure that all dogs, regardless of their owners' financial situation, receive the care and protection they deserve. Conclusion The initiative to cover the cost of rabies vaccinations and dog licenses for dogs entering the shelter system addresses a critical need in our community. By removing financial barriers, promoting public health, and supporting responsible pet ownership, this initiative will have a lasting positive impact on both individual dogs and the broader community. With the support of our partners and funders, Santa Barbara County is committed to making this initiative a success and ensuring that every dog receives the care and protection they deserve.

Bingo

Bingo is a 11 year old Golden Retriever in Beach City, OH, who needs $2,000 for Surgery to Remove Large & Small Cysts, Mouth Burs.

Beach City, OH

Bingo is a rescue. He came from a home with two small dog. The owner could not or did not want to handle a large dog like Bingo. Bingo has been a part of our family since 2013. He came to us soon after my husband passed away. At that time we had two rescues from Tuscarawas Humane Society. They were two little mixed terriers. The boys all bonded together, and played in our fenced in backyard. Bingo needs an operation to remove a large cyst on his left shoulder, a small one on right hip, and some dental burrs. The cyst swells up and then bursts open bleeding profusely. This week it was bleeding so much it was difficult to stop it. He loves baths so after bathing him to remove most of blood, I put pads on and secured it with rope material. As he is 11 years surgery worries me. Bingo loves chasing any ball, particularly his jingle ball. He drops it and then catches it making squeak. He loves playing in muddy puddle after the rain. He also likes to amuse himself by chasing shadows. Shadows like his own, the trees, the moon. My grandson rough houses with him like making Bingo pull him like a sled dog. Bingo was good companion to my daughter who passed away 2 years ago. I am on a fixed income and this surgery won’t fit in my budget. The past year I have had several medical emergencies. When I was not able to walk Bingo was always near me. Bingo kept my spirits up by making me laugh. I love the goofy guy so much. I need him to be healthy

Winston

Winston is a 5-year-old ChiWeenie in Parker, CO, who needs $2,000 for Hemilaminectomy.

Parker, CO

Winston came into my life as a little foster pup, of course, I foster failed. That was the best thing to ever happen to me though! Originally he was known as peanut, but it didn’t fit his personality at all. So, as the new girl fanatic that I am I named him Winston Miller. A play on 3 of the main characters names in that show. He lives at home with me and his sister pup Willow. Winston has always been the life of the party and the one to bring the mood up the second he walks into a room. He is spunky, energetic and could play fetch for HOURS. Everybody who meets him absolutely adores him, he’s here to offer many cuddles, lots of laughs and an endless amount of energy. He is always the center of attention when around family or friends! He is a very sassy boy who likes to talk back and sing with you in the car! Or should I saw howl with you.. the first time he ever “sang” was in the car one day while I was belting out the words to “Man I Feel Like A Woman.” That song will get anyone singing and moving, even Winston! Unfortunately, Winston was diagnosed with IVDD in September over Labor Day weekend. His momma started to notice some changes in behavior such as lower energy, no motivation to play fetch, not talking back, slowly getting up the stairs, no pep in his step and sleeping a majority of the day. He is currently being treated at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital by Dr. Raczek. In august I totaled my car which ended up depleting my savings account and increasing my monthly car payments and insurance payments. Giving me little to no wiggle room with expenses. Winston deserves to live life pain free and this surgery would provide that for him!

Mila

Mila is a 2-year-old Yorkie Pom in Ridgely, MD, who needs $2,000 for Bladder Stone Removal.

Ridgely, MD

Mila came a time in my life where I needed not only her companionship but her. We rescued her from a negligent breeder and she was so clingy. Soon, we found out we were expecting and Mila was exactly the same age as I was pregnant. After having the baby, she was very attached to our son. They act and play as siblings, she is truly a part of our family. Mila curls up any where soft and plush. She enjoys sunbathing. She loves her family and being close to us, she loves outside walks and like every other dog, Mila is very food motivated. She’s very close to our 18 month old son, they play like siblings. Anytime, someone is under a blanket, Mila is begging to get in. She’s the best cuddle bug. During a long night of study, Mila will curl up next to my laptop directly where the fan blows out heat. In a moment of stress, this always makes me giggle. She’s so tiny, she’s always looking for a blanket or a form of warmth. She’s not only my cuddle buddy, but has consistently been my study buddy. Mila first started with uti symptons. After months of misdiagnosis and hundreds of wasted dollars in vet bills, we sought out a second opinion. We’re informed Mila suffers from a massive bladder stone about an inch in diameter. Her being less than 5lbs, there is a dire need to have emergency surgery to remove the blockage. We recently moved to a new home, with a large yard. We were excited for Mila to finally have space to run. Because of the move, and being a college student money is tight. Having Mila healthy again to get to finally explore the yard would mean the world to us.
