Darla

Darla is a six-year-old Beagle in Jacksonville, NC, who needs $1,000 for life-saving surgery.

Jacksonville, NC • Adoption First Animal Rescue

When Adoption First Animal Rescue first saw Darla, she broke their hearts. The kind senior Beagle was clearly neglected for years. Then, pregnant, Darla ended up on death row in a shelter. The rescue saved her from being euthanized by the pound, only to save her life again! Darla needed an emergency c-section, a mastectomy to remove mammary tumors, and another surgery to remove a tumor in her ear. The rescue just had to get Darla out of that shelter, but now they need to raise money to pay for her care. The medical staff at Five Oaks Animal Hospital has been working with the nonprofit, which relies on donations for major medical cases. The group hopes animal lovers who see Darla's story can spare a few dollars to help. The triumph of the animal spirit really shows in Darla. Even though she was let down by humans who never cared or spayed her, she's a wonderful dog and a good mother. "Darla is special because she has so much love to give," the rescue's Staci V. tells Waggle. "She loves every person, every animal, and cherishes her life. She has been such a blessing for her foster family, and she shows them so much love daily. We have no idea what she went through before coming to us, but whatever it was, she certainly did not deserve to be in an animal shelter in severe medical shape." Help Darla have a happy 2021! Please consider joining the Waggle Foundation's FurEver Fund to set up a recurring donation to help save many more pets' lives. This will enable our nonprofit to build a strong and reliable safety net for animals in crisis and desperately in need of a second chance. This substantially improves the odds that every dog or cat will receive the treatment they need to save their life—and simply put, that is Waggle's mission.

Xany

Xany is a 5-year-old Pitbull Mix in Jacksonville , NC, who needs $1,000 for Surgery .

Jacksonville, NC • Adoption First Animal Rescue

Xany came from a county shelter where she was surrendered by her owners. Unfortunately Xany was not in any medical shape to be adopted to the public. Her only options were to be euthanized or to find a rescue. Adoption First saw her and we could not leave her there. Originally it was thought that she had severe mastitis due from having a litter of puppies, however that was not the case. Xany is currently in a foster home enjoying her life with other dog family members. She enjoys sun bathing, relaxing, and even playing from time to time. She LOVES her food and even needs to be on a little diet per the veterinarian suggestions as she continues to gain weight in her happy home life! She is very friendly and loves being around people. Even though her tumors were not cancerous, she does have heart disease, severe skin infections, and needed lots of medical treatment. She still needs medication for her skin because her immune system is shot. Originally it was thought she had a severe case of mastitis, and we were going to remove it while she was spayed. After she was seen, it was determined that she actually had severe tumors that were possibly cancerous. Her tumors were removed and sent off to pathology. The reports came back that it was most likely not cancerous, which is great news! Xany deserves such a great life. She is too young to be euthanized because she was treated poorly in her earlier years. She deserves to understand the good life and to live the second half of her life happy and in a family home! She makes everyone smile who sees her, and loves rolling on her back to get belly rubs!

Brock

Brock is an eight-week-old German Shepherd mix puppy in Jacksonville, NC, who needs $700 for immediate leg surgery.

Jacksonville, NC • Adoption First Animal Rescue

Brock is alive because of the kindness of strangers and a fantastic animal rescue who saved him. Now he needs your help. A passerby recently discovered Brock on the side of the road with wounds all over his legs. The puppy was the lone survivor of his litter; sadly, all his siblings were hit by a car and killed. The people who found Brock scooped him up and brought him to a shelter that immediately contacted Adoption First Animal Rescue. The group raced over to pick him up. "We brought Brock back to our rescue center," Staci V., with the nonprofit organization, told Waggle. "You could clearly see that all of his legs are very sensitive to the touch. He is dragging one of his legs when he walks." "Our rescue will make sure he gets the medical treatment he needs and then find him a wonderful family," Staci adds. "This puppy is only eight to ten weeks old, and he deserves to live an entire full life." Post-op Brock is expected to bounce back quickly and will be ready for his forever home. Adoption First Animal Rescue relies on donations and the support of giving animal lovers to help pets that need medical care. In fact, the group saves more than 500 dogs a year, all because of the generosity of others. Five Oaks Animal Hospital discovered Brock has an old leg injury that unfortunately can't be repaired with orthopedic surgery, so he needs to have his leg amputated. The rescue is now trying to raise the money for the operation. "Due to the nature of the injury, it is in a critical location that will require a specialist to perform the surgery," Staci says.

Houdina

Houdina is a 1-year-old Walker Coonhound in Jacksonville, NC, who needs 1,000 for to have her leg amputated.

Jacksonville, NC • Adoption First Animal Rescue

This dog broke her leg, originally the veterinarian thought the dog's leg could just be splinted, however after further examination the leg actually had bone sticking out through the skin. Because of this the dogs leg will need to be amputated. The owner of the dog did not want to do that and instead asked the veterinarian to euthanize. Since we partner with this Animal Hospital, they called us and asked if we could take her in. We agreed and will be having her leg amputated. Once the leg is amputated the dog will be available for adoption!
