VIOLET

Violet is a 3-year-old Pit Bull / Bulldog Mix in Branford, CT, who needs $2,000 for Bloodwork, Spay, Vaccines, Mammary Tumor Removals.

Branford, CT • Murphy's Paw Rescue Inc.

Just 24 hours after pulling VIOLET from Bridgeport Connecticut Animal Control, and we have discovered mammary tumors. It’s obvious that VIOLET was used again and again for her babies…until her heartless owners finally abandoned her at a gas station. VIOLET could not be more grateful to be safe and pampered in her foster home. She adores children and everyone she meets. She is a sweet, low-key little micro pitty mix and is soaking in every bit of love she receives. VIOLET has an adorable smushy face, with her tongue always sticking out along with an adorable underbite. She is a snorer and is the BEST little cuddle buddy! VIOLET is scheduled with Clinton Vet Hospital for bloodwork, exam, spay, vaccines...and for her mammary tumors to be removed and sent out for testing. The cost of these procedures will exceed $2,000. Murphy's Paw Rescue is a small foster-based rescue, and large unexpected medical expenses really take a toll. We are hoping that our incredible supporters will rally up and donate towards VIOLET'S needs so that we can continue to help countless other dogs who need our help.

Waffles

Waffles is a 11-month-old Shepherd mix in Guilford, CT, who needs $2,000 for Radius/Ulna Fracture Repair.

Guilford, CT

We adopted Waffles just a few weeks ago, she was dumped a few times and finally has a forever home!! She quickly became very comfortable in our home. She is wonderful with the kids and loves to play with her fur siblings, Olive and Atlas. Waffles, brings so much joy to this family. She loves to play in the yard,go for walks and hikes, then snuggles up on the couch with us. She is a very sweet special little girl! Waffles does very well with training, she’s super smart and wants to learn new tricks. Her ears are the cutest and she does cute little head tilts. Waffles was playing in the yard with Atlas and Olive-doing what she loves to do, unfortunately, we heard a loud yelp and poor waffles couldn’t put any weight on her leg. We brought her to the emergency vet right away, and the x-rays showed that she has a fracture of the radius and broken forelimb. This was very unexpected, and of course happened before any pet insurance was purchased as we just adopted her. We want Waffles to heal properly with the surgery that can save her leg. She is so young and has a whole life of adventures to look forward to.

KAUAI

Kauai is a 8-year-old Chihuahua in Branford, CT, who needs $2,000 for Mammary Tumor Removals and Dental.

Branford, CT • Murphy's Paw Rescue Inc.

KAUAI came to Murphy's Paw Rescue from a hoarding situation. She settled wonderfully into her foster home and she is forever grateful to be out of the horrific home she came from. KAUAI is a dog who bonds deeply with her humans. Although she can be weary of new people, if you allow her go at her own pace she will eventually crawl right into your lap and never want to leave. We thought we had found KAUAI her forever home, but soon it was determined that she has mammary tumors. So KAUAI is still in foster care as she not only waits for a forever family to come along, but now awaits her upcoming surgery for three mammary mass removals. KAUAI will be under the care of our friends at Clinton Vet Hospital for surgery on December 14th. Mammary tumors are not uncommon in dogs who are spayed later in life, and we have been through this many times before with fosters as well as personal pets. Although expensive to remove, the good news is that whether benign or malignant...these tumors can be completely excised. Murphy's Paw Rescue is a small foster based rescue and we take responsibility for the dogs in our care. We rely heavily on donations in order to give each dog everything they need and deserve. Please consider donating to KAUAI'S medical needs!

Auggie

Auggie is a 7-year-old Pitbull in Branford, CT, who needs $2,000 for ACL Surgery / Eye Growths Removal.

Branford, CT • Murphy's Paw Rescue Inc.

We (Murphy's Paw Rescue) pulled sweet AUGGIE from the Bridgeport Animal Shelter in late September. During our visit at the shelter, we realized her chances of finding a loving forever home through the shelter system would be very slim. But something about her told us she would really shine in a foster setting, where we could help highlight just how wonderful she is! On her way out of the shelter she began limping. Although we hoped it was nothing major, we knew in our hearts she was going to need more than just routine vet care. Her first vet visit revealed even more than we anticipated. Not only was it determined that she had a torn ACL, but she had quite a long history associated with her microchip. Her microchip revealed that she was confiscated by police, found all torn up with open wounds. From that moment on, her life has included a long list of "adopters" who dumped and abandoned her at least four times within the last few years. It's gut wrenching to know what she has been through...and it's amazing how resilient she is, and how her personality remains so soft, trusting and loving. Auggie is not a candidate for rehabilitative methods, and her tear requires extensive ACL surgery. She is scheduled with Dr. White at Small Animal Surgical Service of CT right after Thanksgiving. She will also have her eye growths removed during that procedure. The estimated cost is $4,400-$4,800. It's impossible to predict what's ahead once we commit to saving a dog. Auggie has gone through so much, and while she still has to endure surgery and recovery...her future is so bright. This is a huge financial hurdle, but we cannot fail her like so many others have.

BABY

BABY is a 8-year-old Cairn Terrier Mix in Branford, CT, who needs $2,000 for Spay, Dental and Cyst Removal.

Branford, CT • Murphy's Paw Rescue Inc.

BABY was rescued after her owner passed away. Sadly, no one in the family would take her in and she was abruptly dropped off to a rescue volunteer. Since that day, BABY has struggled to come out of her shell...but she is finally exactly where she belongs and has been adopted by a wonderful woman who is spoiling her to pieces! BABY and her adopter are as thick as thieves! She loves her stuffy toys, fluffy blankets and cozy bed. She sticks by her adopter's side and they have formed quite a special bond! BABY waddles around behind her owner all throughout the day, and her adopter's family members lovingly refer to them as "the two grumpy old women"...in the best possible sense...it's just adorable! While BABY'S basic vetting was able to be updated immediately, the rest of her vetting has had to take a back seat. We ruled out her having a UTI and it was determined that she was in heat! We have waiting 6 long weeks since she has gone into heat, and so she is finally ready to be spayed, have a dental cleaning and have a cyst removed. Her bloodwork looks great and surgery date is set for 9/7. BABY'S surgeries and pre-surgical prep will cost $2,000+. She has received bloodwork and xrays, and on September 7th she will have her spay, dental and cyst removal.

Bandit

Bandit is a 8-year-old German Shepherd/Labrador Retriever in Meriden, CT, who needs $500 for Cystocentesis and Culture.

Meriden, CT

Bandit was rescued from a kill shelter in CT. He was advertised on social media for adoption. When I saw the post, there were hundreds of comments. I was looking for a dog but was having trouble finding the right fit between the thousands of other people seemingly wanting to adopt as well. 3 weeks later he popped up again and was still available. I went to meet him, paid his fee and he came home. Bandit quickly showed us his goofball personality. Between his smart aleck antics, his quick learning and problem solving skills, he was the right dog at the right time. He loves everyone and has filled our home with so much joy. We have a cat he adores and is always trying to make another best friend wherever he goes. He has several amazing qualities! He learned very quickly he was going to be special. He learned several of his service dog tasks quickly and earnestly, he loves to work! He always knows what I need and when, sometimes before I do! He has helped me during my good days and my bad and never fails to bring a smile or a helping paw. 1 month ago after a long shift at work, I came home to a dog that was so lethargic and very unlike himself. He was diagnosed and treated for a simple UTI and in 4 days he was back to himself. 2 weeks later, his symptoms returned. He improved a fair amount but still lacked energy due to pain and showed obvious discomfort during basic activities. My job has decreased hours significantly and has limited them to upper management instead of anyone. My position was terminated due to covid but I was still able to work available hours until this year. An injury prevented me from being eligible for promotion or other work.

Gordito

Gordito is a 7-month-old Mix in Hamden, CT, who needs $2,000 for ICU care for Leptospirosis Treatment.

Hamden, CT • Where The Love Is

Gordito came to the rescue with his sister from down South. Gordito is at the rescue waiting for his forever home. He is well cared for and loved by all the volunteers who take care of the dogs at the rescue. Gordito gets along and is lovable with all of his rescue family. He gets along with other dogs and is gentle and loving to his human caregivers. He loves to play ball and him and his sister can play all day. They are just full of energy! Gordito’s loving nature makes him so special. He is easy going loves to play, sleep and eat like puppies love to do. You couldn’t ask for a better companion. Poor Gordito was diagnosed with Leptospirosis which made him so sick and can be deadly. He needed to stay at the hospital for veterinary medicine getting around the clock care until he was finally out of the woods. The rescue is a non profit organization that relies on 100% donations. They will take every measure to save any dog that comes to the rescue but the veterinary costs are high and the rescue needs help to cover an unexpected illness like this.

Photo of FRANK & BABY

FRANK & BABY

FRANK & BABY is a 10-year-old Terrier Mixes in Branford, CT, who needs $2,000 for Senior & Pre-surgical Bloodwork, Dental Cleaning & Extractions, Lump Exam & Removal if Needed.

Branford, CT • Murphy's Paw Rescue Inc.

Frank & Baby lost the only owner they have ever known. Overnight, they became dogs without a home. Family members had no interest in caring for her beloved dogs, and instead abruptly handed them off to rescue. As these sweet seniors mourn their huge loss, they are safe in foster receiving lots of love and care. Basic vetting is now complete, but they need additional senior vet care. Frank is the more outgoing of the duo. He is happy to trot over for some love and affection. And my gosh, is he a snorer! Watch (or listen) the video! Baby is on the shyer side, but she is beginning to open up in her new environment. It was a pleasant surprise to find out she loves stuffy toys! Watch her video! Their foster mom describes them as "an old married couple" and just sweet as can be. Frank & Baby are not reliant on one another, but they find comfort in being together. There is not much interaction between the two of them, but being older dogs...their favorite thing to do is nap in cozy blankets for most of the day! While we have completed basic vet care for Frank & Baby, they are still in need of some additional senior vet care before we search for a loving forever home. They both need senior and pre-surgical bloodwork, dental cleanings and extractions. Baby has a lump that needs to be examined and potentially removed as well. We have a soft spot for seniors. Although senior vetting often depletes rescue funds, we cannot turn our backs on them. Donations help allow us to continue intaking dogs of all ages and providing them with necessary vet care and placing them with loving families.

Photo of Cornflake

Cornflake

Cornflake is a 2-year-old Domestic Short Hair Cat in New Haven, CT, who needs $2,000 for Doxycycline and Full-Mouth Extraction.

New Haven, CT • The Greater New Haven Cat Project, Inc.

Cornflake was rescued in New Haven in Nov. 2022. His front feet were swollen (Pillow Feet diagnosis), requirning a long-term course of doxycycline. Once his feet healed, he developed stomatitis, requiring a full-mouth extraction. He is living in a foster home and after 7 months of care, attention and love, Cornflake is fully healed and ready for adoption! Cornflake has 3 favorite resident cats at his foster home who play with him, and he loves to eat. He has a lot of energy and is very "enthusiastic" with his cardboard scratcher. Cornflake primarily eats canned food, but also enjoys smaller dry kibble as a supplement, and soft cat treats. He is very social with people and enjoys watching the birds from inside the house. He would enjoy cat company. Cornflake is special because he was originally a "discarded cat" whose family abandoned him. He found a feral colony where he could eat, but his friendly demeanor left him vulnerable to living outside. He keeps himself very clean, and has good litter box skills, and enjoys interacting with humans for pets, or for playing with toys on a wand. He would not have survived if he wasn't rescued. People who feed outdoor cats do their best, but often these cats do not eat nutritionally balanced food. Cornflake appeared to be healthy at first, but the 2 disorders for which he was treated confirmed he was immunocompromised and needed more care. With antibiotics, diligence, and good food, he is looking wonderful! GNHCP is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization supported by donations and grants to carry out its mission to humanely address cat overpopulation through spay/neuter. When a cat is rescued and requires extraordinary veterinary care, it places a burden on financial resources.

Photo of Chico

Chico

Chico is a 1-year-old Chihuahua in Norwalk, CT, who needs $2,000 for Corrective Osteotomy.

Norwalk, CT • Pet Animal Welfare Society of CT (PAWS)

Chico came to our shelter from New Haven Animal Control. He was found as stray. Due to his anxious personality and seems to have the need to want and enjoy company, we found a foster with a chihuahua that Chico has been enjoying playing and snuggling with. The same foster will be his medical foster post-surgery. During his stay at our shelter, Chico loved snuggling in the arms on laps of staff and volunteers, especially our interns. He is a social eater, which means he eats his meals in the company of a human in his presence. When introduced to foster "mom" and her chihuahua, Chico was ready to play with his young energy. Chico loves all! Even with a injury and lameness to his front leg, Chico is agile to get upright on his back legs and get your attention. He greets everyone with such cuteness of smiling eyes. He is extra special for a young dog and being introduced to new environments of two animal shelters, and new faces, he adapted very well with his cheerful attitude of rushing to make new friends. Chico has a malunion of a right RU fracture leading to an angular limb valgus deformity. This is causing lameness and intermittent non-weight bearing. Abnormal weight bearing through these joints can lead to arthritis in these joints. Corrective osteotomy will allow for return to normal limb use. PAWS relies on donations, fundraisers, and grants to assist in the costs of operations, animal care, food to medical costs. Helping Chico with a surgery will help him not be overlooked for adoption if an adopter had to take on this expensive veterinary cost.

Photo of ESTELLE

ESTELLE

ESTELLE is a 10-year-old Chihuahua in Branford, CT, who needs $1,600 for Mammary Mass Removal, Bloodwork, Teeth.

Branford, CT • Murphy's Paw Rescue Inc.

If you can imagine, ESTELLE was found stray after being abandoned on the side of the road. She is now safe in foster care in Connecticut with Murphy's Paw Rescue. She is enjoying the comforts of her lovely foster home as we prepare her for the remainder of her vet care needs before finding her a wonderful forever family! ESTELLE is all about warm, cozy blankets...and a lap to snuggle up in! Her favorite thing is to be held and coddled, but if you wrap her up in fuzzy blankets like a burrito, she is just as happy! ESTELLE is such a love bug with her foster sibling and her foster family. You can see it in her eyes just how grateful she is to be safe, warm and on the way to a healthier life! It is always heartbreaking when a dog is left abandoned, and it is particular gut wrenching when a senior is abandoned. At some point in her life, ESTELLE was loved and cared for...and we will never know how or why she ended up alone and scared as a stray. ESTELLE deserves to be cherished and loved...she has already endured far too much. ESTELLE has been vaccinated and has had a full senior blood workup done. However, during her vet exam a mammary mass was discovered. Luckily, mammary masses can typically be fully surgically removed, and even if it test Cancerous, they are usually non-spreading. It needs to be removed immediately so that she can be on her way to a long healthy life! Murphy's Paw Rescue relies on donations to help support the high costs of vet care. We often take the dogs who are left behind, and without financial support...we cannot continue to help dogs like ESTELLE who require more than basic vet care.
