The devastating storms hitting Hawaiʻi right now are relentless. Between flooding, thunder, lightning, mud slides, sinkholes, and just total destruction, the roads are completely underwater and impassable. Rescue Kitties of Hawaii's phones have been ringing nonstop with calls for help, but they physically cannot get to so many of them yet, and there are no flights in or out of Molokai, so even critical cases are trapped with us until the storm passes. Luckily, this sweet, little orange kitten was brought to them just before the roads flooded. His name is Pazuzu. He’s about five to six months old and only 3½ pounds… severely underweight. His spine is protruding, and he clearly has some neurological issues. He cannot fully empty his bladder on his own and only passes stool from overflow. They have been manually expressing him and providing round-the-clock critical care. Right now, there is no access to a veterinarian. No transport. No options, but they are doing everything they can. He’s been started on FIP medication, antibiotics in case this is toxoplasmosis, and he is being kept warm, hydrated, and stable… they are trying to buy him time and praying they don’t lose power again. This is the reality on Molokai in a storm like this. Rescue Kitties of Hawaii is not giving up. So many people and animals are displaced from these storms. It’s beyond heartbreaking. Can you please help Pazuzu and Rescue Kitties of Hawaii in this urgent time? 5/30/26 Update Thanks to all of you, Pazuzu is doing really well and keeps growing. He has limited mobility in his hind legs and incontinence issues from the tail pull injury. His vet wants to keep monitoring him to reassess when he grows more to see if his body can heal any further on its own.

These four tiny kittens and their devoted mom were found in one of the most dangerous places imaginable—inside a manhole on a busy road. Every passing car above them was a risk. Every moment they stayed there, their lives hung in the balance. Thankfully, they were rescued in time. Now safe, we’ve gotten to see who they really are—and they couldn’t be more deserving of a happy ending. Mom is incredibly sweet, gentle, and trusting despite everything she’s been through. Her kittens are just as loving, playful, and full of life. But before this family can move on to the homes they deserve, there’s one critical step: spay and neuter. Fixing this entire little family will: \- Protect mom from future litters and health risks - Ensure the kittens grow up healthy and don’t contribute to overpopulation - Give each of them the best possible chance at a safe, stable future They survived something unimaginable. I adopted Alex four years ago from our local Humane Society. I saw him in an ad on Craigslist and knew i wanted him, but couldn't afford the requested rehoming fee. I went to the Humane Society to see what dogs were available, and there he was, just brought in the day before. I renamed him from Star Lord to Alex, in memory of Alex Trebek. Alex has been sick for a while. It started with a sort of cough that seems random but also happens when we go on long walks. I've been wanting to take him to a vet, but can't afford it. He's been getting slowly more lethargic and seems to have trouble eating. Today he won't go outside, won't go for a walk, and just lies on the floor guarding the pizza crust he can't seem to eat, and I'm worried. Alex loves his stuffed ducks. He rips them open to pull out the squeaker and stuffing, then wants to play tug with the remains. He's a clear communicator, being mostly husky, and makes it very clear when he has an opinion on something. He's my emotional support animal and curls up in my lap whenever he thinks I need him. And when there's thunder. I'm on a fixed income, disability, which I supplement with a part-time job. My total income is less than half the federal poverty level and barely covers my monthly expenses. I have Lemonade pet insurance, but it requires up front payment. I don't have it.

We adopted & bottle fed Zeus since he was four days old. He was shunned from his mother because he was the “runt” & had medical issues. He's been a part of our life for four years. We moved from California to Minnesota 8/25, he rode all the way here with no issues, he's always been in good health. In CA we took him to the local veterinary clinic in Clearlake & he was diagnosed fully blind in one eye, 90% in the other, & was mentally impaired. He's always been in good health, but he has an ear infection & is shaking his head a lot, it's beginning to impact his balance. Zeus is a purebred miniature Pitbull, naturally he sounds vicious. Once you get to know him his sounds are playful & he spins around in circles when he sees people he likes, he plays with plastic bottles until they pop their top, every time he eats he growls because he's afraid somebody's going to take his food. He sounds mean, but he's the sweetest dog in the world. Since our move from CA my fiancé has learned he’s disabled & cannot work. Our 83y old, Vietnam Veteran, family member is with us & we are providing unpaid care services for him. I am on the Dean's list in paralegal school attempting to better our future financially.

Emergency Rescue: Help Cover Harley’s Critical Care

At just 4–5 months old, Harley should have been chasing toys and learning about the world. Instead, she was battling a painful abscess on the side of her neck and struggling to survive on her own. Kind park feeders brought her to the shelter, where she began treatment. But when her abscess ruptured and her medical needs became more extensive, she was placed on the euthanasia list. That’s when This is Houston stepped in. Harley was immediately transferred to an emergency vet for urgent care. Her abscess was flushed, she was started on IV fluids and strong antibiotics, and bloodwork revealed she was anemic. Thankfully, she did not require a transfusion, but she needed close monitoring and overnight hospitalization before heading to foster care. And then something beautiful happened. One of of foster's kids had requested a “large brown puppy,” and we were more than happy to make that wish come true. Harley walked straight into a safe home, a warm bed, and a person ready to love her through recovery. Her first night home? She slept through the night and kept her kennel spotless. Such a good girl. She still has some swelling as demodex mites die off, a bit of eye discharge, and a drainage hole from the abscess — possibly from a puncture wound or bite. The good news is the drainage is clear, which is exactly what we want to see. She returns to the vet tomorrow to recheck her anemia levels and ensure she’s continuing to improve. Harley is safe. But she is not out of the woods yet. Emergency hospitalization, diagnostics, medications, follow-up care — it all adds up quickly. We stepped in to save her life, and now we need your help to carry her through the rest of her healing journey. If you can donate, even a small amount, it makes a direct impact on Harley’s recovery. For every kitten born outside, the odds are stacked against them from the very beginning. Hunger, disease, injury, harsh weather, predators, and overcrowded shelters become part of daily survival. Right now, we have rescued 14 cats from the streets who desperately need spay and neuter surgeries before they are forced back into that dangerous cycle. These cats have already suffered enough. Many came to us underweight, sick, injured, or exhausted from trying to survive outdoors. Some were already pregnant. Others were fighting infections, wounds from territorial battles, or illnesses spread through unaltered colonies. Without intervention, the cycle would continue — more kittens born into suffering, more cats struggling to survive, and more overcrowded shelters pushed beyond capacity. Spaying and neutering is one of the most important and lifesaving things we can do for homeless animals. It not only prevents unwanted litters, but also dramatically reduces the risk of serious health problems and injuries. Spayed females are protected from deadly uterine infections and certain cancers. Neutered males are less likely to roam, fight, or suffer severe wounds and infections from territorial behavior. Altered cats also help reduce the spread of disease within outdoor colonies and create healthier, safer communities for both animals and people. Most importantly, spay and neuter saves lives by preventing overcrowding in shelters and rescues already struggling to keep up. Every year, countless healthy and treatable animals lose their lives simply because there are not enough homes, space, or resources available — a heartbreaking reality known as economic euthanasia. Preventing litters before they are born is one of the only ways we can truly reduce this crisis long-term. Meet eight forgotten street cats whose lives were hanging in the balance. For months, these cats have been surviving in the heart of a busy city center, scavenging for scraps, dodging traffic, and trying to stay alive in an area that has become increasingly hostile toward them. As the colony continued to grow, complaints escalated — and now, multiple people have threatened to poison the cats if something is not done immediately. These cats did not choose to be born outside. They are victims of abandonment, lack of spay/neuter access, and generations of unchecked breeding. Without intervention, the cycle will continue, putting even more cats at risk of suffering, illness, injury, and death. We are stepping in now before tragedy strikes. Our rescue team is working urgently to trap, neuter, vaccinate, and medically assess all eight cats. Through TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return), we can stop the population from growing while also protecting the cats already living there. This is their chance to break the cycle. I got Pete as a rescue from Pawswatch in RI during Covid in 2020, after my previous cat (who was 20!) unfortunately passed away. He was two years old when I got him and had endured a major injury to the top of his head, which left him with a scar by his ear. We heard a noise and Pete was on his side, heavily panting and salivating/not moving and had soiled without control. We grabbed him and rushed to the closest emergency vet (8pm on a Sunday) which was ocean state veterinary specialists in East Greenwich, RI, where he has been in an oxygen chamber, as it was determined he has asthma and had a major attack. Right now the bill is well over $3000. Pete is about as sweet as it gets when it comes to cats. He is more like a dog at times - likes to greet you at the door and seemingly wags his tail when excited. He likes belly rubs and tucking up close against his people. He’s also very chatty and often responds if you talk to him. As a kindergarten teacher, he has also become a beloved part of my classroom family, as all my kids know him. I am a teacher and in the process of trying to save for a house. This vet bill is going to be a fairly big chunk of my yearly salary. Right now I’m expecting the cost to be somewhere around 4-5k. Having just lost my dad on May 15, having my boy healthy means the world.
