Luna

The loss Kasey M. and her family experienced are unfathomable. It all started when her husband, Robert, a firefighter, got a department emergency alert on his phone. He was shocked to see the address of their home flash across his screen. "He called me and said, 'You need to get home. Our house is on fire!'' Kasey tells Waggle. She knew all their kids were out of the house but was worried sick about their animals. When she got to her street, fire engines blocked the road, she couldn’t get through. She pulled her car over, threw it into park, and started running toward her house. "I could smell the burning plastic, and I could tell it was really bad," Kasey says. "A volunteer firefighter jumped in the car with the dog warden and kept the oxygen on her, while the police gave them an escort to Central Animal Hospital," Kasey adds. She was devastated to learn seven of her pets, two dogs, four cats, and one rabbit were killed in the fire. "The animals were all in the backyard under a tarp. I couldn't bring myself to go back there," Kasey says. The only one to survive was Luna, an adorable Poodle mix, who was already on her way to the emergency room. The fire was out, but the scene was chaotic and surreal. Rescue crews told her they pulled all eight of her pets out of the house and tried to save them. "The firefighters worked on all the animals in my backyard and tried to resuscitate them," Kasey said. "There were more firefighters trying to work on my animals than in my house.”
Ellis, Yuri, and Evie
Ellis, Yuri, and Evie are 4-week-old English Bulldog pups in Providence, RI, who need $2,000 for eye surgery.

Rhode Home Rescue says what happened to these three English Bulldog puppies is an atrocity. Ellis, Yuri, and Evie, just weeks old, are the victims of breeding gone bad. "A guy walked into a vet's office and wanted them euthanized," Nadine with Rhode Home Rescue tells Waggle. "He tried to breed these puppies, and something went wrong. They were unable to be sold for profit, so he dumped them." Someone at the vet's office called the rescue, which immediately agreed to save the pups and pay for their care. "I told them we'll take them, do not put them down," Nadine says. "I couldn't; I couldn't even think of these poor babies, who didn't even have a chance to start their life euthanized. They all have vision problems and need surgery, but there are all sorts of things we can do to help do Rhode Home Rescue has partnered up with True North Rescue and Transport to help these babies. Rhode Home Rescue is a 501(c)3 dog rescue that relies wholly on donations to help neglected, abused and abandoned animals in RI and in various parts of the country. These puppies have received minimal vetting care and will need a full workup to determine the severity of their blindness, genetic and other issues. One puppy is in extreme pain due to an enlarged eyeball that will need to be removed. Others are suffering from lack of vision and will need a full work-up as well as to whether their vision can be saved. They are at Florence Animal Clinic. We don't know much about these pups yet, but we are doing everything we can to ensure they can go on to live happy and normal lives as the adorable puppies they were destined to be. We could not stand by and watch these puppies euthanized without a chance at recovering from their genetic deformities.
Pepper
Pepper is a 2-year-old Domestic Shorthair in Orangevale, CA, who needs $2,000 for Oral Surgery/Teeth Extraction for advanced Stomatitis.

Pepper was an abandoned stray who approached me in the street one day. He was so emaciated that it pained me to look, he was drooling green from an obvious bad infection in his mouth. I brought him immediately to the ER where he was given IV fluids, a large dose of antibiotics, steroids, and pain meds. He was diagnosed with Stomatitis, a very painful disease that requires oral surgery. Pepper is still very new in my home, I found him recently in a not so good neighborhood, hungry and dehydrated. He has adapted quite well, he never leaves my side when I am home and is very determined to become friends with my other 2 cats! He is very friendly with every human who meets him, in spite of being severely neglected by his previous owners. I require assistance because the cost of the surgery is more than the cost of my entire monthly income. I applied for Care Credit and was denied. Pepper was diagnosed with stomatitis. I brought him in off of the streets and it is already pretty advanced, as he was roaming the streets un-treated for so long. He will require all of his teeth to be extracted. He was seen at VCA Mueller Pet Medical Center and Pet Inn as an emergency patient. Pepper is a very affectionate kitty, he actually hugs me when I pick him up! My other 2 cats are not used to his presence quite yet, but Pepper is very friendly and never growls or hisses at them...he only wants to play! He loves to meow (high pitched kitten meow) and chirp! He tries to play, as well, in spite of the pain he is in.
Lilbit
Lilbit is a 11-year-old mixed in Alton, IL, who needs $800 for Dental Cleaning for Severe Dental Disease.

LilBit came into my life from my belated ex-husband, David. He rescued her as a stray when she was just a puppy and she's been a part of our family for 11 years. My other dog Cookie has a close bond with Lilbit and they often play in our backyard plus snuggle together every night. When David rescued LilBit, she was underweight and lethargic, her name came to be because she was so little. David and LilBit had a special bond. He saved her from life as a stray and she comforted him during his dialysis sessions. She often laid with him while he slept as being tired was a constant side effect of his treatment. When he passed away in 2011, LilBit went through a period of time where she often searched him. Three years later, Cookie came into our home, and LilBit formed a motherly bond. I've been on disability for 10 years due to spinal degenerative disease which mean my income is fixed. Normally, I pay for vet visits with my Care Credit Card, but right now it is maxed out. Asking for donations is out of my comfort zone, but I don't want to lose LilBit. In mid August, I went to brush LilBit's teeth and noticed they were in pretty bad shape. She had also started to slim down but I thought it was due to her age and walking daily. I took her to Daniel-Randall Vetrinary Clinic to get them professionally cleaned but when Kelly Hall, DVM told me the price tag, I knew I wouldn't be able to afford it. For fun, LilBit and Cookie chase each other around the backyard. Her favorite treats are green beans and boiled eggs. When she wants attention, she nudges me and vocalizes her desire. After David's passing, LilBit and I became very close. She helped me mourn losing my dear friend, and having my dogs as companions keeps me from feeling lonely because only the three of us live in the home.

Claire came into my life as a rescue from a friend of mine that was going into the Navy, he could not take care of her and was going to take her to a kill shelter, so I told him I would take her off his hands and raise to be a beautiful dog, there are no other pets in the household. She is in training for a service dog, for my PTSD and Bipolar Disorder, she is sweet, caring, and lovable. Claire likes to sleep with my husband and I on our bed, she has a doggy bed but instead likes to sleep with us, she loves to keep us warm and loves to cuddle. Her favorite toys are squeaky toys, tug toys, and Kong toys, Claire gets along with people very well, she does not growl, bite, or snarl at us or at other people. She is very well behaved, and loves anyone and everyone. My husband is on a fixed income, he is permanently disabled with four auto immune diseases, I lost my job because of COVID-19 and I also had a recent death in the family. Claire is need of all of her shots, my husband and I don’t have the finances to get her shots because we just paid for an apartment, she is my service dog in training, and the apartment needs her shot records before we move in on October 15, 2020. She needs her rabies, parvovirus, and DDP shot, her veterinarian clinic is in Bloomington, Indiana it’s called Monroe County Humane Association. Claire loves to play at the dog bark, she likes to go swimming, she likes to chase after herself or look in the mirror at herself and growl at her own self. She is a goofball on four legs. She loves to go swimming, taking long hikes, and loves to run. She does not have a bad temper or doesn’t bite no one, she loves to lick your face off. And she loves her dog food that we give her also.
Zoey

Zoey came into our lives as an adorable, tiny wiggly floof of a kitten and has since given us 16 years of love and joy. Though she's getting older, she's still delightfully playful. She loves being brushed, sleeping in the oddest of places (like laundry piles and on slippers) and playing "goalie" with her toys. We always know when Zoey is around. She makes gentle "murr" sounds in her sleep and announces her arrival in a room with a loud "mer-errr." Every night when we go to bed, she follows us, hops in bed to supervise us until we've settled in, and then goes to sleep nearby. She has a younger sister (Willa) who is a bit needy, but Zoey is incredibly patient with her and lets Willa cuddle up anytime. The estimate is to remove the sarcoma, biopsy the cyst on her chest, and removal the nodule on her thyroid. We can only cover about half. We want to do all that we can to save our baby and give her a few more great years, but we need financial help. In August, we found a small lump under Zoey's skin, which was confirmed as a sarcoma. They also found a small mass on her chest (likely a cyst, but it needs to be biopsied) and a small nodule on her thyroid (also likely benign; her thyroid function is fine). The doctor thinks he can get clean margins on the removal of the sarcoma and that she will recover quickly. Zoey is truly a great cat and a vital part of our daily lives. She's not only an adorable ball of fluff, she's such a lovebug. If she knows you're upset she'll come and snuggle, and she loves getting attention. She's also totally fearless (when it's hot she'll sleep on the bathroom rug and not even blink when you stand over her). The only time she ever seems less than 100% happy is at the vet.
Tiller
Tiller is a 3-month-old Labrador in Lewisville, IN, who needs $2,000 for bladder surgery.

Tiller has quite a story! Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption got an urgent message from someone who originally bought this cute 11-week-old Lab puppy from a breeder. What no one knew is Tiller has something seriously wrong with her bladder and needs major and expensive reconstructive surgery to fix it. The puppy has what's called an ectopic ureter. Not to bore you with anatomy and biology, but basically, her ureter is supposed to run from her kidneys to her bladder. Unfortunately, something in the plumbing department got misrouted when she was developing, and her ureter does not connect to her bladder. The rescue had only hours to get a plan in action, but amazingly the most wonderful foster mom offered to take in Tiller. Her former owner did get scans and testing done and found a specialty hospital to handle her case. Now the rescue just needs to raise the money! Her former owner could not keep up with the care she needs nor could they afford the surgery. The breeder, we're told, did not want to take the puppy back. The owner was going to euthanize Tiller, she even had the appointment made to put her down. But right before she did, she contacted Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption asking for help. As a result, this gorgeous black Lab puppy is well, leaking urine everywhere, all the time. And she's getting chronic infections as well. Tiller is not off to a good start at just a few weeks old. Surgery can help fix this, but the operation has to be done by a specialty surgeon at a specialty hospital.

This sweet desperate kitty just arrived in our shelter this morning in great need of Veterinary care, guess what, we don't have a DVM on staff so we called around and have her under Veterinary care at this moment. After 72 hours she will become our property. In the mean time the first phase of care needs to get covered, can you help us please I am not sure of her previous life, but we will look for that right home for her, once she is ready for that. kitty just arrived in our shelter this morning in great need of Veterinary care, guess what, we don't have a DVM on staff so we called around and have her under Veterinary care at this moment. After 72 hours she will become our property. In the meantime the first phase of care. Trauma victims of many forms that enter our shelter sometimes may have to be euthanized as we do not have a the proper logistics to help these victims. When admitted into the shelter we Take to a Veterinarian to asses the situation and give us a proper plan. Currently we have no previous medical background. This Siamese feline came in with a plastic/hard fabric collar type around her left underarm neck area creating a severe open wond, embedded and cut into the skin at least 1 inch in depth. We do not know the length of time like this, so as for the damage to tissue is unknown at this time. All animals are special, and this one is no different, currently in pain, she is so gentle and coping well. I am sure we will learn more about her gentle nature and once she overcomes these hurdles and gets better, we will be able to share more information at a later time. Please if there is any way you can help us out. Every trauma victim deserves a second chance, right?
Cricket
Cricket is a 11-year-old Heeler/Terrier in Omaha, NE, who needs $500 for Cushing's Syndrome test, x-rays and EKG for heart murmur.

We adopted Cricket from Hearts United For Animals 5 years ago. She picked us. She had been there for 3 years, and in all of that time no one asked to meet her. That was all we needed to hear. She was ours. She came home with us that day. Since then she has settled right in, and we love her with all of our heart. She loves toys and treats and walks. Cricket sleeps wherever she wants. We have beds in the living room and bedroom. She used to sleep on the bed quite often, but can't jump up there anymore. She still sleeps with us occasionally, but she prefers to be in her bed in case she needs to get a drink of water. She loves to take walks and smell everything there is to smell. Her love of plush toys is legendary. Our income has been affected by Covid-19 and other pressing issues. I have been working really hard to have enough funds to get these needed tests done, but bills keep piling up. She desperately needs these tests. Cricket was diagnosed with diabetes in March. We have been working really hard to make the necessary adjustments to her food and treats. We have even found a new vet with more experience at Ralston Vet. We haven't been able to get her blood glucose numbers under control, so it's possible she also has Cushing's Syndrome. Cricket's bff is a black lab named Jin. They are so cute together! Cricket makes us laugh every day. Sometimes it's the way she plays, or noises she makes, or when she gives kisses. She loves to play with her toys. She likes to play tug, and then shake the toy... eventually tearing into it to remove the stuffing and finding the squeaker.
