They were terrified, filthy, and in so much pain that even being touched hurt. Luckily, Joyner's Furr-eedom Rescue saved them from being outside a Dollar General story for what they think was days. Then came Squeaky Clean Dog Grooming. ❤️ They didn't hesitate. They took these two sweet, bonded babies in and got to work—and the transformation is incredible. These tiny kittens deserve relief from pain and the chance to grow up knowing love. At just six weeks old, Pearl should be chasing toys, climbing everything in sight, and learning what it means to be a carefree kitten. Instead, she is living with an eye that is painfully infected and damaged beyond repair. When RBARI's veterinary team contacted them about two tiny kittens found outside and shared Pearl's photo, they knew they couldn't turn away. Pearl and her sister, Lucy, are battling calicivirus, which is a viral infection that can be especially dangerous for young kittens, along with eye infections and malnutrition after a difficult start to life. While Lucy's eyes are expected to heal with treatment, Pearl's injury is much more severe. Their road to recovery will include medications, veterinary care, surgery, and follow-up treatment. Every donation helps RBARI provide the care they both need—not only to survive, but to thrive. They are also working to trap, spay, and provide medical care to their feral mom, who heartbreakingly appears to already be pregnant again. Their goal is to break the cycle for this little family. Help Cayenne get the Diagnostics that She Needs to Heal

Called Kai for short by her loving caretakers, Cayenne, an elderly blue tick beagle, is more sweet than spicy! She was discovered as a stray, living under a truck for months after her humans cruelly failed her. Cayenne's initial issues included skin inflammation, a secondary infection from allergies, a benign lump under her chin and infections in both ears. X-rays show that she has right hip dysplasia, and her left rear leg has a luxating patella and is severely arthritic. She’s also anemic and has crystals in her urine. We promptly started treatment for both as well as therapy for degenerative joint disease. When she arrived, we were concerned with the hypermature cataract in her blind left eye as her eye looked swollen and cataracts can lead to glaucoma. Her eye pressure was normal in both eyes, but she has an immature cataract growing in right eye, and will eventually lose her vision completely. A few days ago, Cayenne's cataract started to change and is luxating. We need to test her eye pressure again. Cayenne's allergies have flared again and she's having some trouble with malabsorption and weight loss. She's finishing a course of antibiotics and antifungals for her skin issues and is taking supplements to help with digestion and weight gain. We are grateful to Cayenne's supporters who paid for her initial vet bills but we now need to raise funds to cover the cost of her upcoming diagnostics. On a more positive note: Kai LOVES being picked up and held and excels where grooming is concerned. An excellent patient and an exceptionally good beagle, she takes all of her medications like the charming champ she is. She loves her bed, keeps her bedding clean and is usually quiet, except at suppertime! AROO!

Alex Is Fighting For His Life

Alex has been fighting for his life for months, and after everything he has endured, he still needs help. Alex was originally found on the streets of Lebanon in terrible condition. He was severely dehydrated and emaciated, with painful ulcers inside his mouth. He was also diagnosed as FIV-positive. Since being rescued, Alex has been in and out of the hospital as his veterinary team searches for answers. His most persistent problem has been a severe, chronic ulcer on his tongue accompanied by excessive drooling. The inflammation and pain have made something as basic as eating incredibly difficult. Doctors eventually determined that Alex was also suffering from neuritis, believed to be related to a previous traumatic injury to his face. The nerve damage makes it difficult for him to control his tongue and mouth, causing his tongue to hang out and leaving him drooling constantly. The moisture has also caused painful irritation to the skin around his face and discoloration of his fur since he is unable to groom himself. Veterinarians have tried everything they can to give Alex relief. He has undergone multiple dental extractions, extensive diagnostic testing, repeated cultures, several courses of antibiotics and supportive care. At one point, Alex needed a feeding tube so his mouth could rest while he continued receiving nutrition. Unfortunately, his painful tongue lesion and inflammation have persisted despite treatment. Now Alex is facing another serious setback. Recent bloodwork revealed that his hematocrit had fallen to just 11.3%, leaving him severely anemic and potentially in need of a blood transfusion. His white blood cell count was also significantly elevated, indicating that his body is continuing to battle severe inflammation or another underlying problem. Alex has once again been hospitalized, where he is receiving IV support and vitamins while his veterinary team works to stabilize him and determine what is causing his worsening anemia. After months of hospital stays, procedures, medications, testing and around-the-clock care, Alex’s medical expenses continue to grow. His rescuers have never given up on him, but they cannot do this alone. We are hoping to raise at least $3,000 to help cover Alex’s ongoing hospitalization, diagnostic testing, medications and supportive care. Alex has already survived so much. Nicco is my 9 year old bichon Frise. I had gotten him for Christmas as a child at 12 and he’s been with me ever since. Nicco is a dog that loves to be loved. He has bad fomo and wants to always socialize with everyone. Hes a little goofy when he gets the zoomies because he’ll parkour against the wall for momentum. He sleeps like pays the bills and sometimes will fart in his sleep. He unfortunately needs dental surgery and I’m trying to find money for Harmony Vet Care to pay for it. He has lost two of his teeth already and requires blood work as well since he counts as a senior now. He’s gotten me through a lot of tough times in my life. He’s my soul dog and I would trade my life for his. I try to spoil him he has clothes like a raincoat and shoes. A bed in every room and variety of treats. We’re Bestfriends so much to the point he recognizes the sound of my car locking and waits at the door before I even get upstairs to my apartment. He’s the reason I keep going in life. I’m a 21 year old college student that already has a 2700 bill I have to pay to my school. I’ve tried loan payments and credit lines but was unfortunately denied for all of them. I work five days a week alongside school but I still haven’t been able to raise enough funds.

That was the day they found BooBoo, the tiniest kitten, his little body being eaten alive by maggots, yet somehow still fighting with everything he had to survive. They fought for him and tried everything, but were sadly too late. And losing BooBoo absolutely broke their hearts. But they still had six little lives depending on them, including his sibling Socks. And they made a promise that BooBoo's suffering would not be in vain. They were determined to save them, and they did! Socks got the chance BooBoo never had. A chance to grow, to feel safe, to be loved, and to experience a life without suffering. But rescue isn't free. Between veterinary care, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter surgeries, saving these babies has come at a significant cost. Sable Has Never Known Love. We Can Change That.

When we first read Sable's story, we couldn’t turn away. Someone had found this beautiful Siamese mix dragging herself across the ground, unable to use her back legs. She wasn’t crying. She wasn’t giving up. She was simply pulling herself forward with her front legs, hoping someone would notice. Then we stepped in. One By One Animal Advocates cannot turn these cases down. We rushed her to the emergency room, fearing the worst. As we waited for the first x-rays, we braced for a shattered spine and an impossible decision. Instead, the x-rays told a different story. Thankfully, her spine wasn't broken, instead the x-ray revealed old bullet fragments. The fragments were old, but a testament to the life Sable has endured. She's been through unspeakable, intentional cruelty and still approaches her people with trust. At the ER, Sable could not stand on her own. She still had feeling in her back legs and normal anal tone, and she would “rabbit kick” to reposition herself, all small signs of hope. But she was unable to urinate on her own and required manual bladder expression. After being transferred to Ashland Animal Clinic, there has still been no improvement. She is still unable to stand, and her bladder continues to require manual expression. Without a clear structural cause, we are holding onto hope that inflammation is affecting her mobility. Steroid treatment may help, but right now, we are waiting and hoping to see how much function she can regain. Cases like this are never easy. We are constantly balancing what medicine can do with the quality of life every animal deserves. Sable deserves every possible chance to recover, and right now that means around the clock care. Her emergency visit, x-rays, medications, hospitalization, and ongoing treatment have already resulted in significant medical expenses, and her care is far from over. Owl Is Fighting to Survive After Unthinkable Cruelty

What happened to Owl was not simple neglect. It was prolonged, heartbreaking cruelty. Someone appears to have watched this beautiful dog slowly starve until she became so weak that she could no longer stand. Her nails grew horrifically long and curled beneath her paws. Sores developed across her skeletal body. Her tail became necrotic. And when she was finally abandoned, she was simply dumped on a Brooklyn sidewalk and left there. Owl was found near Owl’s Head Park unable to walk and barely strong enough to survive. Estimated to be just 5–7 years old, Owl may have spent years—possibly half of her life—with the person who allowed this to happen to her. Her condition tells the devastating story of prolonged starvation and suffering. When she arrived at NYC Second Chance Rescue, Owl was severely emaciated, extremely weak, and unable to stand. Her body was covered in pressure sores over the areas where bone protruded beneath her skin. Her nails were so severely overgrown and curled that they showed just how long she had been neglected. Her tail tip has become necrotic and ulcerated, and she may require surgery or even amputation. Bloodwork revealed significantly elevated liver enzymes, showing just how severely her body has been affected by prolonged starvation. Owl also has a heart murmur and severe dental disease, adding even more challenges to an already critical situation. Right now, Owl requires around-the-clock medical care and extremely close monitoring for refeeding syndrome. After prolonged starvation, simply giving a dog food again can be dangerous if it is not done carefully. Her veterinary team must slowly and cautiously nourish her while watching for potentially life-threatening complications. There are no guarantees that Owl will make it. If she does survive this critical period, she is facing weeks of hospitalization, intensive treatment, rehabilitation, and a long road toward rebuilding her strength. But for the first time in what may have been years, Owl has people fighting for her. And the rescue is also fighting for justice. They are seeking surveillance footage from cameras near Owl’s Head Park and the area where she was abandoned, hoping to identify the person responsible for what was done to her and hold them accountable. Owl never deserved this. She deserved food. She deserved medical care. She deserved a safe place to sleep. She deserved someone to protect her. Instead, she was allowed to waste away until she could barely stand—and then she was discarded. We refuse to let that be the end of her story. Her road to recovery will be long, expensive, and uncertain, but the rescue is determined to do everything possible to get Owl out of the woods and give her the life she should have had all along. Every Breath Is a Struggle for Dior

Dior is a tiny, one-year-old Pomeranian with a huge personality and a dangerously fragile airway. He was found abandoned in poor condition by a senior volunteer with New York Cat Warriors. He had a severely matted coat and was covered in ticks and fleas. But the most frightening problem was something we could hear: a harsh, hoarse cough followed by episodes of gasping and labored breathing. Dior is a happy, affectionate little puppy who wants to play, explore and be close to people. But excitement and stress can make him pant heavily and struggle for air. Ordinary moments that should be joyful can become frightening because his airway cannot reliably remain open. Dior’s preliminary examination, bloodwork and chest X-rays have been completed. The radiology report confirmed collapse of his trachea where it enters his chest, along with collapse affecting some of his smaller airways. His condition also creates additional risk under anesthesia, particularly during recovery. Dior has now been referred to the specialists at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center for the advanced care he needs, including an anticipated tracheal stent procedure. The AMC estimates that Dior’s surgery will cost approximately $16,000. With assistance from AMC to the Rescue and NYCW’s 20% rescue discount, most of that cost can be covered, but our rescue must still raise the remaining $3,000 for Dior to move forward with treatment. That $3,000 is the obstacle standing between Dior and the specialty care that could allow him to breathe more safely and comfortably. Although New York Cat Warriors is ordinarily a cat rescue, we could not turn away this tiny abandoned dog when he needed help. We are a small, all-volunteer, foster-based organization with limited financial resources, and a $3,000 specialty-care balance is more than we can absorb without help. Dior is now safe in foster care with the volunteer who found him. She is seriously considering adopting him once his airway condition has been treated and he is medically cleared. Dior may already have the loving permanent home he deserves but first, we must help him breathe. Please help us raise the final $3,000 needed to unlock Dior’s procedure. NYCW will remain responsible for his medications, follow-up care and recovery needs as they arise. Every donation will help turn AMC to the Rescue’s extraordinary assistance into the specialty care Dior needs and bring him closer to the secure, happy life that should have been his all along.
