Carlos

Carlos is a 10 year old American Cocker Spaniel in Harrington, DE, who needs $9,100 for a Knee Replacement.

Harrington, DE

I found Carlos in a horrific condition—starving, covered in fleas and parasites, and blind from severe eye infections. After rescuing him, I discovered he had chronic ear infections that had spread all the way to the bone of his skull. The damage was so severe that Carlos had a double ear canal ablation to relieve his chronic pain. Carlos was also born with a defect that left his knees severely misaligned. He now relies on two daily pain medications to manage his constant pain. Dr. Walesby at Maryland Veterinary Surgical Services can preform a surgery that will give Carlos a fresh pair of knees. He will finally be pain-free! Carlos is incredibly sweet and gentle. He loves to play when he can, adores children, and always wants to be close to his family. He also has a special bond with cats, who seem to love him just as much in return. I put all my savings into Carlos’ ear ablation surgery and have nothing left. With this final surgery, Carlos can finally live his last days pain-free.

Kami

Kami is a 10 year old Mix-Breed in Baltimore, MD, who needs $4,800 for Amputation (Digit) Toe Mass Removal.

Baltimore, MD

In 2016, someone came into my job with a tiny pup and asked if I wanted him. Of course I said yes and I have not looked back. He is the definition of the goodest boy. He has been my apart of my emotional support system for 10 years. Over the pass three months, Kami has had a growth on his paw. It has been progressively growing. He has gone to multiple vets to find a solution to what the growth was. When the testing came back, it was positive for squamous cancer cells. The mass has doubled in size since April when he was originally taken to Erdman Vet and then Warm and Fuzzy in May. Since Kami is a little older, he spends most of his days sunbathing in the backyard with his 2 dog siblings. When in the house, he’s either asking for pets or snuggling in his bed with one of his 4 cat buddies. When the surgery was originally getting scheduled, money was not an issue. I ended up with pneumonia in May and that ended up with bills falling behind. The surgery price was unexpected since the surgery requires a part of his paw amputation.

Scout McSwain

Scout McSwain is a 3 year old Belgian Shepherd Dog (Malinois) in Berlin, MD, who needs $4,800 for ACL Repair Surgery.

Berlin, MD

Scout was found on Facebook chained to a tree. I notified the owner that I would pay to bring him too me. He agreed and Scout arrived a few days later. The bond was instantly. We named him Scout, because I was a Cavalry Scout in the Army. We have 2 other dogs and they loved him. Playing together all the time. I believed we rescued him from a life chained to a tree and I know his life is better. Scout was running around one day and he started hopping on 3 legs. His left rear was barley touching the ground. We took him to the pet ER and they took x-rays and found he tore his ACL in his leg. It seams he is getting worse holding his leg up while he plays and go on little walks. We found a place (Maryland Veterinary Surgical Services) to preform his surgery for $4,800. Scout needs assistance. Scout plays with Red and Tackle everyday. He loves to be chased around the yard. Scout is a Belgium Malinois that has one speed (full throttle). He always like to be petted by everyone in the house every morning. He gets jealous when I pet Tackel or Red and he pushes up to get attention. Scout is one of a kind. He get a ball and runs around the yard shaking his head around hard. Scout is great. We are on a fixed income and it would take us over a year to save enough for Scouts surgery. We need to have this soon so it does not get worse. Scout and his family would love all the support you give him. It hurts me seeing him in pain daily. We need scout healthy again.

Boa

Boa is a 6 year old American Pit Bull Terrier in Laurel, MD, who needs $5,000 for Orthopedic Surgery.

Laurel, MD

Boa is a Pitbull that my son brought home. He soon after moved out and was unable to care for her at 4 months. I took care of her, alone to the best of my knowledge. I knew nothing about dogs before. I grew to love bo so much as my own child. I think I didnt fully understand how animals work as they get older. Because I never imagined this, at her age of 6years old. I feel that I failed her. Sat. July 12, 2025 Boa was stuck on the basement steps unable to move. I lifted her off. I then realized she couldn't walk properly, she's limping. I took her to the ER and was told she had a torn acl. I was horrified. I contacted a few places and came up with maryland veterinary surgical services. They were able to more tell me a price over the phone. I already had spent 600 so I didnt have it Boa is so special because she's opened my eyes and life to a new love and appreciation I have for animals. I never could have imagined i would become an animal over by taking care of her. My friend calls me peta. I help cats in the neighborhood with food and I just love animals. Boa has changed my life and everyone around her. She's so sweet and kind it hurts me to see her like this. It would mean the world to me if I am quickly able to help Boa. I fear with my help alone that she may damage her other foot because I am not able to help her right now and im not sure of when I would be able to come up with 5000. Already contemplating not paying certain bil

Pirate

Pirate is a 14 year old American Shorthair in Dover, DE, who needs $2,000 for TECA - Total Ear Canal Ablation.

Dover, DE

This is Pirate. We adopted him when his previous foster could no longer care for him because their baby was allergic, he was forced to live in their cold garage. People threw rocks at him when he was a stray kitten, and he lost his eye. His life started off rocky; However, he has warmed up over the years and is the sweetest little guy. I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for help. He’s 14 years old and has been a best friend, a comfort, and a constant companion for me, my parents, and my brother for over a decade. Recently, we found out he has a tumor growing in his ear canal. It started out as an ear infection that we’ve been attempting to treat for months (dozens of vet appointments). Little did we know it was not an ear infection, but a tumor that slowly grew larger and larger unnoticed. He has had a CT (see pic) that says the TECA should resolve his issues. We’ve been told the only other option is to put him down because he is in pain. The doctor we consulted suggested a unilateral right total ear canal ablation. The surgery could give him a second chance at life. He may be old, but he still has so much love left to give, and I’m not ready to say goodbye when there’s still hope. The cost of the surgery is more than we can afford on our own, and that’s why I’m asking for help. Every little bit counts, and even just sharing this page.

Loki

Loki is a 6 year old Mix-Breed in Baltimore, MD, who needs $2,000 for ACL Right Repair.

Baltimore, MD

I saw Loki's picture on the SPCA website. He was in the shelter in DC but was scheduled to be transferred to Baltimore City. I was excited to see him when he arrived and checked the website for updates. My daughter and I went to see him when he arrived. It did not take long for us to both be smitten. I adopted him at 8 months old. His head was bigger than his body. The staff was so so excited to see Loki adopted. They thought it was adorable that he had this very large overbite. I thought oh that is adorable. Later on you realize this is not a cute thing but very problematic. So we love Loki although he has constant drool leaking from his mouth....when he shakes his head/body drool is released and goes everywhere. Its gross we know but we just wipe it. We like the name Loki and decided it did not need top be changed. I had no idea that he would top out at 110 lbs. The vet immediately scolded me...lol and put me on a food plan for Loki. He is now weighing in at 100lbs. Loki has much anxiety. Walks backwards into rooms, is terrified of the hardwood floors at home now covered with rugs everywhere. He loves his walks very much and the snow I had not anticipated what a significant injury might cause. Loki has injured his ACL and requires surgery to fix. I work part time and rely on SSI with no current emergency fund. I know that there is no question about what to do, but difficult to think about how to do.

Khita

Khita is a 8 year old Boxer in Windsor Mill, MD, who needs $2,000 for Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CCL) Repair Surgery.

Windsor Mill, MD

I'm so grateful for my Boxer, Khita, who has been my companion for 8 years. I found her in North Carolina during my son's spring break, and it was love at first sight. She’s not just a pet, but a true part of our family. Now she needs surgery, and I’m doing everything I can to help her. I'm reaching out for support so she can continue sharing her love with us for years to come. Khita recently tore her cranial cruciate ligament (CCL), and after consulting with our veterinarian, we've been referred to Maryland Veterinary Surgical Services in Catonsville, MD, for surgical intervention. Khita is my heart, she’s family. Her love is unconditional, and she has a way of knowing exactly when someone needs her – whether it's to play or simply curl up and offer comfort. She’s energetic and playful with my everyone, always ready to give and get love. Her presence fills my home with so much love, and I can’t imagine having home without her. After unexpected major home repairs, helping family, & repaying student loans, I’m struggling financially. I work for the government, but the $4,500 for Khita's surgery is beyond my reach. Its presented a huge hardship but having Khita healty & Happy again means everything

Carmelo

Carmelo is a 5-year-old Catahoula Leopard Mix in Wilmington, DE, who needs $500 for TPLO Surgery.

Wilmington, DE

I adopted Carmelo, FKA Jimmy, in late 2018 after a big life change. When we had our meet and greet it was love at first sight! I was so excited to bring home such a bubbly, cuddly puppy. At the time I was living alone and Carmelo grew to be my family. Since adopting Carmelo in 2018, I have gotten married and had a son. We are currently all living together as a happy family! Carmelo is truly a family member in our home, it is almost like having 2 children. He is enamored by my husband, Rob and especially 4 year old son, Robbie. He is such an active, happy pupper who loves to "sun" when it is nice outside and dig in the dirt. He especially loves our nightly family walks. Carmelo is a special dog in so many ways. He is able to read people so well and has so much fun playing silly games. His favorite thing to do is take Robbie's "bear bear" and hide it. Since adopting him, I actually started a small dog treat business called, Carmi's Cookies. He is the BEST taste tester and is slightly addicted to their PB goodness. He has such a silly and playful personality. Unfortunately Carmelo has had several instances of on/off limping. In Nov. of 2023 he was diagnosed with a chronic CCL tear in the left, an acute CCL tear in the right, and bilateral patellar luxation. He has planned surgery on 12/12/23 at Maryland Veterinary Surgical Services with Dr. Walesby for the right side. After the right heals, he will need surgery on the left. Carmelo has not been able to enjoy our nightly walks and has been spending lots of time sleeping. We are a family of 3 with 1 full time working family member. These surgeries are extremely expensive. It will mean the world to us to have him back to his bubbly self.

Ari

Ari is a 9-year-old Labradoodle in Pasadena, MD, who needs $2,000 for Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy.

Pasadena, MD

After the death of my last dog, a beautiful Black Labrador named Bentley, I was pretty depressed. Then Ari came into my life and she rescued me from my sadness and sorrow. I named her after Bentley's astrological sign, Aries. I never knew an animal could be so loving and gentle. Her joyfulness is contagious. Even with a torn ACL (CCL) she still looks as happy as ever but I know she is hurting. Ari is one of our two family dogs. We live in a small house with my Mom and Dad (who love her to death), both retired, and I am semi-retired. Ari is just the happiest dog all the time and we can't help but to feel happy when we are around her. She sleeps in my bedroom with me and I get to wake up every morning to her smiling face. She loves people and gets very excited when folks come over. As I said we are all pretty much on fixed incomes and all told the cost for her treatments and rehab will run in excess of $4000. It would mean the world to us to have our baby back healthy again and I promised Ari I will do everything I can to make her whole again. Ari was out playing in the yard one day and I heard her yelp really loudly. She came into the house limping badly. We got her to the vet for x-rays and the doctor told us she had torn the CCL in her left hind leg. We were informed that she needed an operation and that it would cost $3,450 for the surgery at Maryland Veterinary Surgical Services with Dr. Honor Ame Walesby in Catonsville, MD. Ari loves to run and play in the yard. Her favorite game is fetch. She'll go and get the ball and drop it right at my feet, having never been trained to do it. She loves people and will run up to the fence to say hello when any of our neighbors comes near. Inside the house she spends most of her time begging for treats and sleeping. We also play fetch in the house with a treat dispensing ball.

Simba

Simba is a 1-year-old Chug in Bowie, MD, who needs $2,000 for FHO Surgery.

Bowie, MD

Simba came into my life when he was just 2 months old. He was a birthday surprise from a very close family member of mine who means alot to me but is no longer living close. Simba and I are just 2 adventurous young professionals. we live in Washington DC Area currently.. JUST US 2! And we definitely bring joy into each others lives. Simba is a very easy going little fella! He loves to run and jump but is very well mannered and kind of "goes with the long" without argument. He loves to go on short hikes and long nature trails in my area. He gets along with my most immediate family members who just love to play and "talk" with him. This was a sudden expense and due to the pandemic I an short the additional income needed to have the surgery and provide recovery and medication. I am also head of household and helping to provide to other children. Simba leaped from the back of the sofa one day and landed on his side. This resulted in him injuring this Femur bone. He is currently in need of an FHO surgery. I took him to 3 different vets who all gave the same recommendation and stated there was no other option and it needed to be done right away. Simba is definitely one of a kind, rare gem! I call him my "little man" because his demeanor is so mature and in a way, professional. Simba loves to "talk". And will try his best to hold a long conversation with you. He loves to be the center of attention by batting those big eyes. Whenever I talk about him he senses it and his eyes are glue to me. Also he enjoy FACETIME calls with my friend
