Help Senior Cat Artemis Recover After a Frightening Emergency

West Palm Beach, FL • Adopt A Cat Foundation

Sweet senior cats deserve comfort in their golden years—not a medical emergency. Artemis, a beloved senior cat in the care of Adopt a Cat Foundation, was recently rushed to the emergency veterinary hospital after showing alarming signs that something was seriously wrong. She was repeatedly going in and out of the litter box, straining to defecate five to six times without success. On her final trip, Artemis vomited bile, a clear indication that she needed immediate medical attention. At the emergency hospital, veterinarians quickly determined that Artemis was dehydrated and required intravenous fluids and an enema to stabilize her. They also performed X-rays and comprehensive bloodwork to determine what was causing her sudden decline. The diagnostics revealed that Artemis is facing several significant medical challenges. In addition to her existing asthma, she is anemic, has an elevated white blood cell count indicating inflammation or infection, and is suspected to have a urinary tract infection. Her veterinary team is now working to identify the underlying cause of these abnormalities while providing the treatment she needs to feel better. For a senior cat, conditions like dehydration, anemia, and infection can become serious very quickly. Thanks to the quick actions of her caregivers, Artemis is receiving the medical attention she desperately needed before her condition became even more critical. Now, Adopt a Cat Foundation needs your help. Emergency veterinary visits are never planned, and the costs of hospitalization, diagnostic testing, medications, fluids, and follow-up care add up quickly. Artemis still has a road to recovery ahead of her, and every dollar raised will help ensure she receives the treatment and monitoring she needs to regain her strength and continue enjoying her golden years. Your donation today can make a life-changing difference for Artemis. Whether it's $10, $25, or more, every contribution helps provide the lifesaving care this sweet senior girl deserves. Please donate today and help Artemis recover from this frightening medical emergency. Together, we can give her the comfort, care, and second chance she deserves. 8/8/26 Update We have some wonderful news about sweet senior Artemis! After her frightening medical emergency, she is feeling much better and showing us that she still has plenty of spirit. Even more encouraging, Artemis has started to open up to one of her volunteers and now allows her to pet her—a beautiful little sign that she is feeling safer and more comfortable. For now, her caregivers are continuing to closely monitor her urination and bowel movements to make sure everything is returning to normal before she can safely rejoin the main cat room. Artemis still needs your support as Adopt a Cat Foundation works to cover the veterinary expenses from her emergency visit, diagnostics, and treatment. Please consider donating to help Artemis continue on her road to recovery. Every donation helps ensure this sweet senior girl can get the care she needs and return to the comfortable, happy life she deserves.

Bo

Bo is a 10 year old Mix-Breed in Loxahatchee, FL, who needs $2,000 for Chemotherapy using Epirubicin.

Loxahatchee, FL

Bo came into my life as a family dog. When I moved out on my own I took him with at 6 months old. He has been the one constant in my life, being there through a divorce and moving across country with me from Colorado to Florida. He loves the outdoors, going hiking, swimming, running on the beach and playing with other dogs. He loves everyone and everything that he meets. He truly is the sweetest. He has been healthy his whole life so when I noticed him being lethargic & pale gums I took him right to the Anzer animal hospital They found a mass on his spleen & they removed the whole spleen to send out to histology which it came back as hemangiosarcoma. We have started chemo at Pet Referral & Emergency with Dr. Zaidi to help extend his quality of life. Bo is very special to everyone he meets. He greets everyone and everything with lots of welcome sniffs and kisses. He loves treats so he will constantly show you his tricks in attempts to get some extra snacks. His favorite toys are stuffed and have legs so he can chew the legs off and take the stuffing out. He is the best sunggler and companion anyone could ask for Unexpected things happen in life but when it’s your loved one you’ll do anything you can to help them. The vet bills unfortunately don’t stop when going through surgery and chemo. To have some stress taken off me financially would do wonders to spend quality time with my boy

From a Rusty Crate to a Real Future — Help Rusty Heal

West Palm Beach, FL • Adopt A Cat Foundation

Rusty was found abandoned in a managed colony of community cats—left behind in a rusty crate, with an empty food bowl, dry water dish, and a filthy litter box. Clearly once an indoor cat, Rusty was terrified, emaciated, and confused. He had been discarded like trash. Luckily he ended up in Adopt A Cat Foundation's care. Rusty was finally on the path to recovery when he suddenly fell extremely ill. A volunteer noticed he was lethargic and clearly unwell—when his temperature was taken, it read 106°F, a dangerously high fever. He was immediately rushed to the emergency vet, where he is now hospitalized. Veterinarians have discovered that his bile duct is enlarged, possibly due to triaditis, and he is also suffering from an ear infection. The full extent of his illness is not yet known, but he will remain hospitalized overnight and likely longer, with additional diagnostics and treatment needed. The cost of Rusty's treatment is quickly adding up. Please consider donating to help Adopt A Cat Foundation give him the care he desperately needs to be healthy and live the life he deserves. Update 7/30/25 After struggling with diarrhea, an additional diagnostic test revealed that Rusty was infected with coccidia, a GI parasite. This can make cats very sick but thankfully it is very easily treated. Rusty is on the mend with a new medication to kill the parasite.

Archie’s Critical Condition: Help Treat His Urinary Emergency

West Palm Beach, FL • Adopt A Cat Foundation

Adopt A Cat Foundation is urgently asking for help on behalf of Archie, a sweet 4-year-old male cat who was rushed to the Pet Emergency & Referral Center after he suddenly became unable to urinate — a potentially life-threatening condition that could be caused by a urinary blockage. Archie is currently undergoing x-rays and bloodwork as the veterinary team works to determine the cause and severity of his condition. Urinary blockages are extremely painful and can quickly become fatal without immediate intervention. Right now, Archie is in critical need of care — and the costs are adding up fast. As a small nonprofit rescue, Adopt A Cat Foundation is doing everything possible to get Archie the emergency treatment he needs. But they can’t do it without support from compassionate animal lovers like you. Please consider donating to help Archie receive the care he needs! Donations of any amount are deeply appreciated. Update 5/13/25: Archie’s X-rays showed no blockage and no crystals were found in his urine. The vet diagnosed him with a urinary tract infection (UTI) — painful, but thankfully treatable. Archie was sent home with medications and is now on the road to recovery. While we’re incredibly relieved, the emergency vet visit came with a heavy price tag. Please consider donating to help cover Archie’s ER visit, diagnostic tests, and medications.

Strudel

Strudel is a 5 year old Mix-Breed in Fort Lauderdale, FL, who needs $223 for Soft Tissue Injury.

Fort Lauderdale, FL • Operation Liberation

For at least four years, Strudel survived the harsh realities of outdoor life as part of a feral cat colony. She weathered bitter winters, fought for food, and lived with no guarantee of safety. When Operation Liberation trapped her for spay surgery, the plan was simple: spay and return. But Strudel had other plans. To everyone’s surprise, this quiet, resilient girl turned out to be friendly — not just tolerant, but affectionate. It became clear she wasn’t just surviving outside — she had been waiting for a second chance. Operation Liberation made the easy decision to bring her into foster care, where she quickly began to thrive. Recently, Strudel began to limp, and the condition worsened throughout the day. Concerned for her well-being, Operation Liberation rushed her to the emergency vet. After a thorough exam, the veterinary team diagnosed a soft tissue injury. She was sent home with pain medication and anti-inflammatories, and strict instructions for rest and monitoring. Strudel’s prognosis is good, but her care has already come at a cost and as a volunteer-run rescue, Operation Liberation relies entirely on community support to cover emergency expenses. Please consider donating to help give Strudel the future she deserves - safe and loved.

Boots

Boots is a 2 year old Mix-Breed in Fort Lauderdale, FL, who needs $731 for Emergency Exam and Abscess Treatment.

Fort Lauderdale, FL • Operation Liberation

It’s been a whirlwind week for Operation Liberation, with emergency rescues coming one after another. Among the most urgent is Boots, a stray tomcat who recently appeared near the home of a longtime supporter and foster. Boots had been frequenting the area around an Operation Liberation foster's house, gradually coming closer as she began to feed him. The initial plan was to trap him for a standard TNVR (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return). But once he was safely trapped, it became immediately clear that something was seriously wrong—Boots had a large, painful abscess on his face, swollen and visibly infected. Despite the discomfort, Boots showed surprising signs of friendliness. He allowed gentle pets, lingered close to the foster, and sought out her presence. His body carried the scars of street life, but his eyes held a softness that couldn’t be ignored. This wasn’t just a feral cat in need of medical help—this was a cat quietly asking for a chance. Operation Liberation made the decision to step in and give Boots that chance. He is now receiving veterinary care to treat the abscess, along with antibiotics, pain relief, and supportive care. Please consider donating to help Boots receive the care he needs. Update 7/30/25 Boots has healed amazingly! He has put on weight and filled out and you cannot even tell that he had such a big wound on his face.

Donovan

Donovan is a 2-year-old Cairn Terrier in Jensen Beach , FL, who needs $2,000 for Liver Detox.

Jensen beach, FL

Our little baby boy, Donnie, is a spunky, upbeat, active and happy boy who comes everywhere with mommy and daddy in his favorite backpack. He loves coming to the doctors with us and hanging out with the staff at the various doctors offices and other places he comes. Donnie just spent is 2nd birthday admitted to the ER with liver failure due to being poisoned. Donnie loves to take long hikes, walk on the beach, come out in the backpack on the bicycle and snowmobile and just loves running along the water at the beach and playing with the seagulls. Donnie is such a good boy all the time and is the happiest boy in the world as long as he is with mommy and daddy! Donnie, AKA, Mister Snarfie Pants, communicates with us by making various snarfing sounds that vary in sound and pitch so he can express what he’s saying. He has the biggest smile with his cute black lips and big tounge which he uses to give licks of love all day!! We have some songs and jingles that we sing to Donnie every day to let him know just how loved he truly is. Donnie started to show signs of lethargy, started shaking continuously, lost his appetite, and started vomiting his water. He then started loosing control of his urine and was excessively thirsty but too weak to get up to drink or move. He was admitted to the pet emergency of Martin county after last week and he is experiencing liver failure due to ingesting some sort of a poison like rat poison. We spent our savings last week for the unexpected emergency costs incurred due to Donnie being poisoned, and he now requires a minimum of 2 weeks of additional hospitalization at $2500 per night. This is our baby, our son, and he is dying right now. Please help us save him

Cece

Cece is a 4-year-old Mixed Breed in Port Saint Lucie, FL, who needs $2,000 for Cranial Cruciate Ligament Tear Surgery.

port saint lucie, FL

I am a teacher and proud caregiver of two shelter dogs.I was not looking for a second home but took in "Chicken Nugget" to see if she would get along with my other dog. It worked out and "Chicken Nugget" was renamed Cece and became part of the family. Cece has been plagued with allergies and is now in need of Ligament surgery so she can get up and moving again. Cece is the "baby" of the family. She is scared of everything and very timid. She is my therapy, my companion, and the light of my day when I get home teaching. Lately, she has been confined to little or no movement. It breaks my heart that she misses all walks with our other dog. She is the most loving and innocent animal I have ever owned Cece comes to life on walks and romps in our backyard. She is gentle and wouldn't hurt a butterfly. She is curious but reserved and is easily scared of trashbags. She loves baths and snuggles Cece has had ongoing allergies, however, now she is in need of surgery. She is having surger on 10/19/23 at Pet Emergency and Referral Center under the care of Dr. Hanson. She needs her left leg stabilized so that she can be active again. There is a high recovery rate. I want her to have her quality of life back. We have seen three vets and all have said this is what Cece needs to regain activity I am a single mom and first grade teacher with two dogs. The washing machin was just replaced after house flooded. Cece's allergies are an ongoing expense leaving me without funds for this expense
