Adopt and Save a Life Rescue Mission is urgently seeking support for Melissa, a young rescue dog who was severely injured in a sudden and traumatic incident. Shortly after another rescue dog was brought into care for safety, an unexpected accident occurred and Melissa suffered serious dog bite injuries that required emergency medical treatment. Melissa was rushed immediately to Kendall Point Animal Hospital in Miami, where she began intensive care for her wounds. She is expected to require surgery along with ongoing treatment and recovery support. The estimated cost for Melissa’s emergency care is up to $8,500, an overwhelming burden for a rescue already managing multiple urgent medical cases. But Melissa is more than a medical case. She is a sweet young dog with so much life ahead of her. Even while recovering, Melissa continues to show gentle resilience as she fights to heal. Everyone caring for her is rooting for her recovery and giving her every chance to heal comfortably and safely. Any support will help give Melissa a chance at recovery. 5/1/26 Update: Melissa’s Recovery Continues — Managing Post-Injury Infection Melissa developed a bacterial infection from her bite wounds, so her medication has been adjusted accordingly. While she has shown some improvement, the infection is still present and continues to require close monitoring. To support her healing, she is currently being seen by the vet every three days for laser therapy and wound cleaning. This ongoing care is essential to promote proper healing and prevent further complications. Throughout it all, Melissa has continued showing strength and her sweet personality shines through. Adopt and Save a Life Rescue Mission is closely monitoring her progress and remain hopeful as she continues her recovery journey. 5/12/26 Update: Help Melissa Continue Her Healing Journey Melissa continues to make steady progress in her recovery under the care of Adopt and Save a Life Rescue Mission. After weeks of intensive treatment, including regular laser therapy and bandage changes, Melissa is continuing to respond positively to care. Her veterinary team is encouraged by the progress she has made so far, even though her healing journey is still ongoing. She still requires continued wound care, follow-up treatment, and close monitoring to ensure her injuries continue healing properly. Despite everything she has endured, Melissa continues to fight through recovery with quiet resilience, and everyone involved in her care remains committed to helping her fully heal. Thank you for continuing to support Melissa and her recovery journey. 7/12/26 Update: Melissa's Fight Continues: One Step Closer to Saving Her Leg Melissa's journey has been far from easy, but she continues to fight for the chance to keep her leg. Since her last update, Melissa has taken another important step in her long road to recovery. She recently underwent her second surgery, where her external fixators were removed. While this was a major milestone, her treatment journey is not over yet. Melissa was originally facing the possibility of losing her leg, but her rescue has been committed to exploring every option to save it. These surgeries are being done to give Melissa the best chance at keeping her leg and improving her quality of life. Unfortunately, the final procedure cannot happen just yet. Before Melissa can undergo her arthrodesis (joint fusion), the areas where the fixators were removed need time to heal. Her veterinary team also needs to ensure she is free from infection before moving forward with the next step of treatment. Melissa still has another major surgery ahead of her, and her rescue continues to stand by her through every challenge. This has been a long and difficult process, but each step brings Melissa closer to the outcome everyone is fighting for. Since her previous surgeries, Melissa has been battling an infection related to the injuries she suffered during the dog attack. Her veterinarians have been working hard to get the infection under control so she could safely move forward with this next stage of treatment. This upcoming procedure alone is expected to cost more than $5,000, adding to the significant medical expenses Adopt and Save a Life Rescue Mission has already incurred throughout Melissa's recovery and previous surgeries. Georgia came into our lives after we said goodbye to our 13 year old Dane, Chloe. She was the spunk of energy that we needed and we were the love and security she needed. As with all of our girls, we co-own our dogs with our trusted breeder. She wanted to enter Georgia into a few shows and keep her in between. Long story short, she called me a week after the first show and said Georgia wasn’t right. I drove to Doswell, picked her up and took her right in. She had pneumonia. She stayed overnight at Columbia Pike Animal Hospital. Georgia loves everybody. She welcomes any companion on the couch next to her and she becomes the companion whether welcomed or not:) She is, by far, the most affectionate dog we have ever owned. I swear she was the dog put on this Earth for one purpose and one purpose only: to LOVE. She was readmitted to the hospital last Monday. She’s been on high flow oxygen and a ton of antibiotics to try to kick this thing. She has had ups and downs, as we are learning is common with pneumonia. We are coming up on an entire week of critical 24/7 care ❤️‍🩹

Blue came into my life as a gift to myself for my birthday from an ad looking to re-home puppies. I have been planning for awhile to adopt a German shepherd as my forever fur baby. When I seen Blue I knew she was the one for me. She’s 6 months old and so smart, loving and just a joy to be around. She fills her day bonding with everyone individually and ends her night with me brushing her to sleep Blue was struck by a car in the face during the snowstorm and it fractured her upper and lower jaw. She's struggling to breathe, can't close her mouth, can't eat properly, can't smell and can't even bark. Blue needs surgery asap for chance at normal life. Crown Veterinary Dental in Charlotte NC is prepared to perform surgery but it will cost $4265. Please help Blue Blue is a ball of energy, she loves on us hard and brings so much joy to our family. She loves hanging out with the boys watching tv snuggled up and playing fetch outdoors. She's our personal alarm clock with her high pitch bark and I get a special surprise as she dives on my bed and pulls my pillow. I have had Willow and her sister Ava since they were 8 weeks old. They haven't been apart a single day for the last 7 years. They have both been the best dogs. I can see that Ava is having a hard time with Willow being sick also. She is giving her extra attention and loving on her. They are both the most loving and gentle girls. I first noticed a lump on one side of Willow's neck the first week of December. It took me a month to get her into the vet. By that time she had multiple lumps and they were growing quick. The vet sent out a sample and put her on prednisone. It came back that Willow Mae has lymphoma and I was devastated by the diagnosis. The prednisone shrunk the lymph nodes. Willow's favorite thing to do durimg the day is to lay in the window and let the sun shine on her while she watches the cars and people pass by. I love when people come into my work and let me know they seen Willow in the window today. We took Willow to the Veterinary Oncologist and they gave us hope that she can fight this awful disease. This diagnosis came very unexpected and it's very hard for me to admit that I need help to save her. We will need to travel over 4 hours every 3 weeks for 5 mths for her chemo. Her Dr said she has a very good chance to go into remission. She deserves a chance to beat this.

Drizella became a part of our family 15 years ago when she was only 8 weeks old. She was the first big, serious decision my partner (now husband) and I made towards our future together. We adopted her and her sister, naming them Drizella and Anastasia (Cinderella’s stepsisters, knowing one day we would have a girl and name her Ella). 5y later, they became big sisters our daughter Ella! Other than some hearing loss, Drizella has been an exceptionally healthy girl. A few days ago, she began to have diarrhea, and yesterday we noticed blood in her stool. I immediately got her in to the vet for X-rays and evaluation..she has pyometra which is a very serious & life threatening condition. Her vet made it very clear that she needs to have her uterus removed ASAP. Drizella has so much more life to live and love to give! She may be 15, but she doesn’t act like it. She still has some of that puppy energy and playfulness with her dog sister and human sisters. Drizella is an important and much needed member of our family. She has been by our sides through so much, and I cannot give up on her 🩵 She is a bright light in my life, a constant companion. I lost my job a year and a half ago due to the company being sold. That cut our income in half, and it hasn’t been easy. I have since started a new career as a TA, however compensation is still a cut from what I was making. We are still behind financially yet working hard.

I got leo in 2021 as a baby and he has been my baby ever since. Leo is a 5 year old miniature dachshund. He is so full of life and has such an amazing personality! Leo was diagnosed with IVDD which is very common in his breed. In his case he started to limp. I took him to the vet and they didn’t see an urgent need to any type of MRI. Following a few weeks he began to lip stain and within hours he became paralyzed in his hind legs unable to move them. He was rush to the ER for emergency surgery. He had a herniated disc that was pushing on his spinal cord. I was prior military and got stationed away from my family, so it is just me and my 2 dog. My dogs are my family, my children, and I would do anything to save them. Leo surgery was very expensive. I could not pay eveything upfront so I had to do a care credit and put some on the cere credit and then the rest on a cried card. I just need some financial assistance in order to pay of his surgery.

Missy was puppy when I had gotten her from a cousin of mine. We’ve been together for two years come July 19th (her birthday). Missy lives with one other dog, Devin. They’ve been best of friends since. I gave Missy her name by calling out names to see which she responded to the best. She is a black lab, pitbull, and possibly mixed with more breeds. Missy has had a partial ACL tear in her back left leg, which healed fairly well. Last Sunday (06-08-2025), she had torn her ACL and her Meniscus on her right back leg. The veterinary said that Labs and Pitbulls are prone to ACL tears and since Missy is both, she is predisposed. The veterinary office is Modern Vet in Springfield Tennessee where they diagnosed Missy. Missy is simply my best friend. She’s always there to comfort me when I cry, she’s always there to make me laugh with how silly she is. She’s the sweetest dog I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. She loves everyone she meets and she particularly loves to play with babies and children. Missy is very full of life and is the most precious thing to me. She’s my girl, and she’s everyone’s friend. I am only 20, I just started cosmetology schools and am full time student, currently am unemployed. It would mean the world to me for my best friend to not be in any pain. I don’t want to have to put her down while she’s so young and full of life.

Stubby came into my life at the end of my grandfather's life. He was being trained as a service dog, and he continued his training and became my new service dog and servied as a full-time service dog for 5 years. He is now 98% retired, but still loves the days that he gets to go out and work, but doesn't mind being a couch potato either. He's the calmest sweetest Chihuahua you will ever meet. Stubby has 4+ teeth that need to be extracted, including some canine teeth. He saw the vet today 3/5/2025 at Penobscot Veterinary Services, LLC in Bangor, Maine, USA and they said that he will more than likely need 4 teeth removed and upwards of 8 teeth removed, but x-rays will determine just how many he needs removed. He has a really painful mouth right now and has a hard time chewing. Stubby is one of those dogs with a big personality, but is quiet and calm. you wouldn't know he's a Chihuahua he's so chill. He's willing to be picked up and held by anyone who is having a bad day, but he especially loves his momma. He's saved my life more times than I can count at this point as a service dog, and he deserves to be healthy. He's a bed hog through and through though. This is an unexpected major expense, he had a vet wellness check in November and his teeth were nothing like this. I just graduated in May 2024 and got a job as a Mental health therapist, and I just don't have the funds to pay for his vet bills right now.

Barry came into my life two months ago, I got him from a breeder in Springfield, IL. I kept the name, Barry because I thought it fit him very well and I love when dogs have human names. He has 3 cat sisters who he loves to antagonize and play with. I take him with me to anywhere that lets him in. He loves anyone and everyone who stops to give him attention, and he smothers them with kisses. At home Barry was very active and lively. Until his recent accident when he jumped out of my arms, breaking his arm. My neighbor has an American Bulldog who loves to play with Barry between the gate and they run back and forth together. He loves to go on walks, bringing me huge leaves and sticks that are usually bigger than he is. He is smart and learns quick with the tricks I have taught him. He is spunky and loving, the first time I picked him up I knew he was mine. He is so funny and energetic, he chases his tail, when he goes outside, he plays fetch, and he runs so fast that he does a somersault when he tries to get his toy. He loves to go on car rides, when I start singing a song, he sings along with me, and it makes my heart melt. Yesterday, he jumped out of my arms, landing on his left arm, breaking it in two places. Upon examination, it was determined that he fractured his radius & ulna bones. He needs emergency surgery. I am distraught over seeing him in so much pain and not his usual happy self. Any help is greatly appreciated. Im a full-time nursing student at SIUE, working a part time job on a fixed income. The surgery is estimated @ $4200 with about $800 follow-up fees. I applied for care credit and got approved for half of that amount. I have $500 saved to use, but am in desperate need of help.
