Howie

Howie is a 8 year old Mix-Breed in Lemoore, CA, who needs $2,000 for Mass on Spleen.

Lemoore

Mr. Handsome Howie came into my parents lives in 2015. My mom foster failed again with 4 dogs at our home but she couldn’t resist this little yappy Maltipoo dog. He was medium built, with off white hair of a fur, and has deep chocolate brown eyes so mesmerizing that you immediately melt and give him anything he wants. Today, Howie lives comfortably with his mom Bee, her dad, and her brother. As of yesterday, Howie has a big mass on his spleen. It has been causing him pain to the point he has a hard time laying down on his stomach. Right now he still is Howie living life. He still has his crazy appetite and his love of food especially the cheese tax. Howie is on three medication provided from his vet at Karing for Kreatures. He is on steroids, prednisone, and gabapentine for the pain. Howie is the most funniest and anxious dog that me and my dad have ever owned. He knows how to make us laugh or love him more when he wants to cuddle. Howie has a huge love for food that when we are eating he has to act like his life depended on it as if he is back on the streets. He’s a serious couch dog especially when he’s on guard duty on the recliner by our front window. He’s my best friend. Both me and my dad are not in the best financial right now. We both are in bad debt. All the money and the credit that we built all got used went to this emergency vet visit just to get the diagnosis. $800. This will be HUGE for us cause we know Howie has a lot of life left.

Dawn

Dawn is a three-year-old Terrier mix in La Crescenta , CA, who needs $2,000 for urgent leg surgery.

La Crescenta, CA

It was back in 2020. I rescued Dawn from S. Korea. According to animal rescue group, her mom was rescued with her 4 puppies, 5 other puppies were found as dead. My dog wasn't in good condition and no one expected her to survive. She was a runt and no one wanted to adopt her because she was not a pure breed or a white dog. Dawn was going to get euthanized soon so I decided to take her in. Dawn is extremely skittish and is scared of everyone but our family. She is extremely lovable and playful, and has great patience. Dawn is also quick-witted and never bothers a family member when they are sleeping, busy, etc. She loves going on beds and staring out the window and rolling around on the blankets to her hearts content. Dawn uses her paws for everything, similarly to how a human uses their hands. She always taps us for attention or grabs our hands and places it on top of her. Even when she dislikes the food that she is eating at times, she will push the bowl away with her paw, instead of turning her face. It's always funny to see her reaching for things and heartwarming when she places our hands on her. Dawn was involved in a car accident on Sept. 9, 2023 that left her right hip dislocated and her left ankle ligament completely shredded. The hospital that has been treating her is VCA Animal Specialty Group and she has been under the care of Dr. Biggo. She has received a Femoral Head Ostectomy for her right hip, however she still needs surgery for her left leg. I will have spent a total of $37,000 on Dawn's surgeries. I have a daughter who will be attending college this year, however I do not have the funds to support her and the dog. Being able to provide Dawn this surgery would grant her the same life that she always had.

Roxy

Roxy is a 3-year-old Mixed Breed Dog in Davis, CA, who needs $750 for Echocardiogram and X-rays.

Davis, CA • The Life of Kai: Compassion Connections Inc.

Roxy is not mine. I met her while volunteering for Street Dog Coalition. SDC provides free vet care for pets of the unhoused. She was waiting to be seen for a foxtail problem at the SDC clinic when I saw her. She and her dad DaShawn live in an encampment at a local park. At present, she belongs to DaShawn but he already plans to rehome her to give her a better future and life. As a trainer, I volunteer to provide behavior help to these pets. Roxy is social and sweet. She was friendly and allowed me to pet her immediately. DaShawn brought her to the clinic as he thought she may have a foxtail in her ears. She was amazingly calm despite her discomfort. As I replaced her old and worn out harness, she did not complain even though she was uncomfortable. All dogs and cats are special especially those that belong to the unhoused. These "pets" are family and provide companionship and security. This is a difficult situation for Roxy and DaShawn. She is 3 and has a life in front of her. DaShawn is rehoming her because he understands her medical needs are beyond his means. It takes immense courage and love to put her well-being first. Roxy has a murmur and needs an echocardiogram to assess its severity and determine the appropriate treatment. Roxy also needs X-rays of her knees to investigate possible bilateral ACL injury. The X-rays are essential in developing an effective treatment plan to give Roxy back some mobility. Front Street Homeless Outreach sponsors her. DaShawn is unhoused but Roxy is well cared for. She looks healthy and happy despite her medical issues. Roxy already has a potential adopter - a park ranger who monitors the homeless encampment where Roxy and DaShawn live. We at Life of Kai are committed to helping Roxy

Willow

Willow is a 11-year-old Sphynx in Waxhaw, NC, who needs $2,000 for Ultrasound with Needle Aspiration.

Beulaville, NC

Hi, I'm Willow and I'm having trouble breathing because of a nasty lung mass. I love everyone and am loved by many in return. From the day I was adopted at 9 months old I have filled my family with light even in dark times, of which there have been many lately. I'm especially beloved by my owner and a sweet little 2 year old girl; we have lost 3 friends recently and losing me would be unbearable. Believe it or not, I love going out with my family; I'm a dog in a cat's body. That said I am a great cat ambassador and many non-cat people have met me and decided they actually love cats! I seriously don't know a stranger; I'm the first to greet new visitors and crawl up into their laps for a welcoming cuddle. Aside from cuddling with my humans I still love to run around like a kitten at times! From my human: My Willow is truly a blessing; she is just so smart and so loving and I can't imagine life without her - not yet and not after losing so much so recently. I love walking into a room and seeing that she drug her blanket into the beam of light coming in through the window. I love untucking her little head, giving her a kiss and hearing her loving meep in return. Now she can't breath. Willow started having episodes where she struggled for breath days before Thanksgiving. She immediately went to the vet and subsequently saw some specialists until we finally figured out there was a mass in her lung - this has taken a few months and her breathing is worse. Now she is scheduled for a CT this Thursday. However, now they say they may do surgery which I am not financially ready for. I'm between jobs and blew my savings on vet bills as one after another my pets became sick. I ended up losing 2 of my darlings back to back and the family cat. Then my other dog was diagnosed with a rare and expensive to treat kidney disorder. I am truly tapped out.

Polly is a 4-year-old Husky Mix in Madison , WI, who needs $2,000 for Diagnosis and Treatment.

Madison, WI

Polly is the sweetest dog ever!! Shes my babygirl! Back in November, after going to doggy daycare, she developed an illness. She began coughing, then wheezing, and even vomiting from coughing so hard. We went to her vet but after 3 rounds of antibiotics she is still sick! She has been referred to a vet specialist. We currently are going through financial hardship and need help for further care. Polly loves everyone. She is a sweetheart and loves my 8nyear old daughter, Asali. They are always playing. It is just me and Asali in out household. Polly is part of our family! She is so playful and loving! Polly has come a lomg way. she was rescued from Underdog rescue when she was 1 and she was very wild. After intense training, Polly is so much calmer and she listens and is well disciplined. Polly loves to talk to us. She tells me when she has to go outside or when she wants a treat! She's very vocal and she knows most commands and she loves to turn around if a treats involved! She is always by my side. She comes with me everywhere I go, well almost. She is my best friend. She likes to sing and she howls when we blow a horn. Polly loves the snow and she pounces like a cat in snow Polly has been to 2 vets. She was diagnosed with kennel cough from her 2nd vet. After 3 rounds of antibiotics, and after steroids, hydrocodone and cough meds, Polly is still sick, coughing wheezing and vomiting. She was referred to a specialist for treatment. I have an appt in march set up for her. I am having a hard time with bills. I am currently on disability ssdi, and I have been suffering from a head injury since 2017. I'm still healing but I was loving off credit cards for a couple years. It's been very difficult to stay afloat with bills

Jax

Jax is a 6-month-old Australian Shepard/Border Collie in Two Harbors, MN, who needs $2,000 for Bone Fracture Repair.

Two Harbors, MN

Jax came into our household about 4 months ago. We were dog sitting for him for my wife's brother. He was born in Detroit, MI to a family that breeds these dogs. Jax is a mild natured dog that does very well with kids. We didn't even hear him bark for the first time for a couple months and he loves to have his belly scratched. We have 10 acres in the country and our 7 little kids love to play with him on our property! His favorite kid is our 1 year old girl that likes to show him who is boss. She also likes to ride him and jump on him like he is a trampoline! As a herd dog he chases the boys on the dirt bike and tries to nip at the tires. Funny how their instincts come through so strong! Jax is a good mild mannered dog and that is why he is special to our family. With 7 kids thats basically a must. It's said that 1 in 26 dogs are good dogs for kids. The thing that makes us chuckle is sometimes he will just lay on his back with his legs spread and fall asleep. It is the most unusual position and we often wonder what causes him to do this! On November 23rd our kids were sliding down the driveway on their sleds and Jax was playing with them nicely. When a car came down the road, his herding instincts kicked in and he ran out in front of it and got hit with the kids watching. The driver brought him to the vet clinic, and they removed the air around his lungs and did X rays. Luckily it only turned out to be a broken leg. The leg is broken in an area that is going to require over $3,000 in medical costs due to a special surgery using rods and plates. Do to raising 7 children there just never seems to be any extra money laying around. The alternative to the surgery is to put him down 😩
