Saving Sheldon: A Second Chance for a Special Pup

Sheldon arrived at a Georgia shelter in the middle of a heat stroke, weak and barely hanging on. He was placed on the euthanasia list, but this little fighter wasn’t ready to give up. With quick action and a will to live, Sheldon stabilized, and Purrfectly Wonky Animal Rescue stepped in right away. As he recovered from the heat stroke, the veterinary team noticed something unusual: Sheldon’s head seemed slightly enlarged. He’s suspected to have hydrocephalus, a condition caused by fluid building up around the brain. It can lead to pressure and neurological symptoms, but with the right care, many dogs live long and happy lives. Sheldon is now safe and resting in foster care. He’s already started on omeprazole, a medication that helps reduce fluid pressure in the brain and keep him comfortable. He’s alert and adjusting well as we begin planning for his next steps, including his neurology appointment scheduled for later this month. Sheldon’s journey is just beginning, and we’re committed to giving him the care he needs every step of the way. Donations help cover his vet visits, medication, and future diagnostics. Update 07/29 Sheldon had his big neurology appointment with the fantastic team at the University of Florida and right off the bat, he stole hearts left and right. No one can resist that sweet face and calm little soul! The neurologist confirmed Sheldon’s enlarged noggin is due to Hydrocephalus. Fortunately, he is not in any pain and is fairly asymptomatic — meaning he does not struggle with the typical symptoms (circling, trouble walking/balancing, vision issues, lethargy, seizures). His doctor did, however, say that our little guy is a bit "neurologically delayed" and "not too good at school.” Unfortunately, Sheldon is now facing a new challenge: he’s urinating constantly, sometimes five times in just a couple hours. So, it’s back to the vet we go — this time, to test for a possible pituitary gland disorder (an issue that can affect hormone balance, metabolism, and water retention). Sheldon’s current medical costs have already skyrocketed, and we’re bracing for even MORE as we continue his diagnostic testing and treatments. Beyond his emergency care, one neurology visit alone cost $295 and now he is looking at $300-400 for bloodwork and a urinalysis to hopefully give more answers. Sheldon’s come such a long way, despite so many setbacks — showing love every step of the way. So while his recovery care certainly isn’t cheap, if there’s one thing we DO know it’s that little sweet, very special, slightly-dopey boy is SO worth it. Please consider joining #TeamSheldon. Daffodil’s Fight: A Tiny Life Worth Saving

Daffodil was just days old when she arrived at Purrfectly Wonky Animal Rescue, injured and barely holding on. In a heartbreaking turn, her wounds weren’t from an accident, they were caused by her own mother. Deep puncture wounds marked her tiny sides, already swollen with infection. Though her eyes were still closed, her quiet presence spoke of a newborn in pain, but also one with a chance. Caring for a puppy this young is delicate under any circumstance, but Daffodil’s condition made everything more urgent. She was placed gently into the rescue’s incubator—lovingly known as the Bean Bakery—where she could stay warm, monitored, and surrounded by care. She’s receiving broad-spectrum antibiotics, pain medication, and daily wound cleanings to fight off infection and keep her comfortable. Because she’s still learning how to eat from a bottle, Daffodil is being tube-fed by hand, around the clock. It’s slow, careful work, but she’s showing signs that she wants to keep going, curling up tighter in her blankets and doing her best to hold on. Each hour she makes it through is a victory, and her tiny strength gives everyone reason to believe. There’s a long road ahead, but Daffodil isn’t in this alone. Biscuit’s Battle for Comfort and Clarity

When Biscuit arrived at the shelter, it was clear something was wrong. His tiny, swollen eyes told a heartbreaking story. He was alone, just a few months old, unable to see and clearly in pain. Shelter staff feared he might lose both eyes. Even while hurting, Biscuit purred and made biscuits when touched, earning him his sweet name. We rushed Biscuit to the hospital, where vets diagnosed him with severe congenital glaucoma. The pressure in his eyes was dangerously high, nearly four times the safe limit, and he was already blind. The original plan was to remove both eyes as soon as possible, but his case has become more complicated. Four different vets, including an ophthalmologist, are now working together to investigate whether there’s an underlying fungal infection or ocular FIP causing his symptoms. Until they have answers, we’re treating him with multiple medications and running additional tests. Biscuit’s medical bills are growing by the day. Between emergency hospitalization, diagnostic testing, specialty consults, biopsies, and bloodwork, the cost of his care has already surpassed $2,600 and continues to rise. But we believe he’s worth every penny. And thanks to a loving medical foster experienced with blind cats, Biscuit has a safe place to recover while we wait for the next steps. Please Help Benjamin After Being Hit By a Car

At just 10 weeks old, Benjamin has already faced more pain than most animals do in a lifetime. This tiny kitten, weighing only 2 pounds, was hit by a car and found dragging himself around, broken but still trying to survive. At the shelter, he sat waiting for help that never came… until the caretakers at Spicy Whiskers saw him. They couldn’t turn our backs. X-rays revealed the heartbreaking truth: two broken bones in one back leg and a shattered hip in the other. Benjamin needed immediate, specialized care. Their orthopedic team dropped everything to save him. In just 48 hours, he endured two major surgeries—two plates placed in one leg and an FHO (femoral head ostectomy) to repair the other. He is a fighter. Spicy Whiskers Rescue fought for him, too. But the cost of giving him this chance at life was enormous: $4,000. For a small rescue like theirs is overwhelming. Benjamin’s story is just beginning—he deserves to grow, to play, to live without pain. But they cannot carry this burden alone. Help Miso heal from a debilitating Tail/Back Injury

Miso came to us late one night, barely clinging to life. He was lying lifeless on the side of the road, his back torn and raw, his tail completely gone. Underneath his fur was nothing but skin and bone, and in his eyes… a sadness too deep for words. He was exhausted, dehydrated, and too weak to even stand. But when we wrapped him in a soft blanket, maybe the first he’s ever felt, Miso did something that broke our hearts. He leaned in and hugged us. As if after everything he had endured, what he needed most wasn’t food or medicine, but simple, human comfort. Now, Miso is resting in a cool, air-conditioned room in our shelter, far from the heat and chaos of the streets of Karachi. He’s been sleeping almost nonstop, his body still in disbelief that it’s finally safe. His wounds are being treated, he’s on a careful refeeding plan, and he’s receiving love and care with every step of his healing. Your support can give Miso the second chance he’s quietly asking for. 70+ Dogs Need You: Support Ace of Hearts After Palisades Fire

On January 7th, Ace of Hearts Rescue faced a devastating loss when the Palisades fire destroyed their facility. By some miracle, none of the dogs were harmed—but the rescue was still caring for over 70 dogs at the time, all of whom needed food, shelter, and stability in the chaos. The team immediately sprang into action, checking in with foster families, moving 10 dogs from impacted homes to safer fosters, and using their 500+ volunteer network to deliver emergency food and supplies. But just as they were scrambling to care for their own dogs, a flood of desperate calls came from Angelenos who could no longer care for their pets because of the fire. Ace of Hearts took in nine additional critically injured dogs, many suffering from broken legs, burns, demodex, luxating patella, and cherry eyes. In total, 12 dogs required extensive medical care—including surgeries for broken hind legs, severe hip dysplasia, and cruciate ligament tears. The estimated cost of veterinary treatment alone is nearly $30,000. Through disaster, heartbreak, and exhaustion, Ace of Hearts refuses to give up on these dogs. But they can’t do it without your help. Winston is a 4-year-old neutered male dog who lives with me in my sister’s basement. This has been our home since I was evicted from my previous residence following the end of a relationship nearly a year ago. Winston is primarily an indoor dog and lives alongside my other dog, Pete. He serves as my emotional support animal, providing daily comfort and stability during this period of transitional Winston is a 4-year-old neutered male dog and my emotional support animal. He is up to date on vaccinations and previously Erhlichia positive. Recently, he has shown increased bowel straining, and a tender bump near his rear end. His primary Veterinarian is The Animal Hospital Of Kentwood and Blue Pearl Pet Hospital he has an appointment in November. Winston is such a character - he pushes me out of bed each and every morning since coming into my life - he buries himself under the blanket to make sure you're sufficiently warm at night. He's a vocal lil guy who loves "pizza bones" (pizza crust) He is compassionate and loves his brother Pete more than most things and wont pass up the opportunity to push him around. He is Pete's older brother! Within the last year I was evicted and gone bankrupt last year due to unforeseen events with my now ex-partner. It ended abruptly and the fallout was messy and detrimental to my mental health and income. I've just started trying to get back on track before I found the lump.
