Jazzy

Jazzy Needs Surgery to Breathe Freely Again

Port Republic, MD • Friends of Felines Inc

Jazzy is a special young cat who has already overcome so much. She arrived at a local shelter as a stray and, not long after, gave birth to her kittens there. Friends of Felines stepped in to help, moving Jazzy and her babies into a loving foster home where they could finally be safe. With care and stability, Jazzy devoted herself to raising her three kittens—and thanks to that support, every one of them has now found a home of their own. But while Jazzy was busy being an incredible mom, she was quietly struggling herself. For a long time, Jazzy has suffered from a recurring upper respiratory infection. Despite repeated treatments and ongoing care, her symptoms never fully resolved. After exhausting all other options, Jazzy was referred to an internal medicine specialist for further evaluation. During that visit, veterinarians discovered the underlying cause of her ongoing illness: an intranasal polyp. This growth is affecting Jazzy’s ability to breathe comfortably, and without surgical removal, it could continue to grow and eventually block her airway. Surgery is now necessary to give Jazzy relief and put her on the path to long-term health. Friends of Felines has already done so much for Jazzy—rescuing her from the shelter, providing foster care, medical treatment, and ensuring her kittens all found homes. Now, Jazzy needs help with this next critical step. Please consider donating to help Jazzy receive the surgery she needs. Every contribution goes directly toward her veterinary care and brings her one step closer to breathing easily and living comfortably. Jazzy gave everything she had to her kittens. Now it’s her turn to receive the care she deserves. 2/23/26 Update Jazzy came through her surgery beautifully, and her polyp was successfully removed — a huge step forward in helping her breathe easier and feel better. After surgery, she was also diagnosed with rhinitis, which helps explain some of the lingering congestion she had been experiencing. The good news? We now have a plan. Jazzy has started treatment with an inhaler to help manage the inflammation and keep her airways comfortable. She’s adjusting wonderfully to her new routine, resting well, and showing us that same sweet, resilient personality we’ve all fallen in love with. Every day she seems brighter, more comfortable, and more like the happy girl she was meant to be. While her surgery was a major milestone, her care doesn’t end here. Ongoing medications, follow-up visits, and monitoring are essential to ensure she continues to heal and breathe comfortably long-term. If you’re able, please consider making a donation to help cover Jazzy’s continued medical expenses. Your support allows us to say “yes” to specialized procedures, necessary diagnostics, and the ongoing treatment that gives cats like Jazzy a real chance at a healthy future. 3/21/26 Update We are thrilled to share a wonderful final update on sweet Jazzy! After everything she’s been through, Jazzy is now in her follow-up phase and doing very well. Since her surgery to remove the intranasal polyp, we’ve seen meaningful and lasting improvements in her health and comfort. One of the most exciting milestones is that Jazzy has successfully come off antibiotics — for the first time since this entire journey began back in August 2025. This is a huge step forward and a sign that her body is finally healing the way we hoped. Jazzy is currently being maintained on an inhaler twice daily to manage her rhinitis and keep her airways comfortable. She’s tolerating this routine beautifully and continues to show her sweet, resilient personality every day. She will also be following up with her internal medicine specialist next week to ensure everything continues to progress as expected. Because of the success of her surgery and ongoing care, we are excited to share that Jazzy is now able to be marketed as an adoptable cat. After being such a devoted mom to her kittens and patiently working through her own medical challenges, she is finally ready to find a forever home of her own. We are incredibly grateful that we made the decision to move forward with surgery. It truly changed Jazzy’s life — allowing her to breathe easier, feel better, and look ahead to a bright, healthy future. Thank you to everyone who supported Jazzy throughout her journey. Your generosity helped make her diagnosis, surgery, and follow-up care possible. Because of you, Jazzy has gone from struggling to breathe to thriving and ready for adoption. This is the happy ending we were hoping for — and Jazzy’s next chapter is just beginning.

Lola

Lola is a 5 year old Mix-Breed in Lothian, MD, who needs $14,000 for MRI Scan and IVDD/Back Surgery.

Lothian, MD

In March 2020, I lost my childhood dog, Loba. A few months later, a friend gifted me the cutest puppy, my sweet Lola who was named in honor of Loba. 2 months later, we got her Pomeranian brother Yogi who has been her companion, growing up together. They were the only two before we were also gifted two more dogs. So Lola now has one brother and two sisters always keeping her company! On Sunday morning, Lola started to lose function in both her hind legs slowly throughout. We took her to AAVEC as an emergency case, where they informed me that it's most likely a neurological problem and has IVDD. She is no longer able to walk on her hind legs and drags them, having back pain as well. Due to this we have to express her bladder for her to pee. She does have a chance, with surgery. Lola is the sweetest! I just adore her laidback personality. She loves to eat, and she will perform her roll over trick for a taste of your food. She loves walks, and she will demand them! Lola enjoys laying between your feet, this is how you know she trusts you. She has such a different & unique personality compared to her siblings. I love her quirks and her little feet/legs. I just love her so. I lost my job and unfortunately have no emergency funds left. Lola is still so young, she is only 5 years old. When talking to the vet, he did tell us her chances. While not guaranteed, we don't want to give up on her and want to fight for her life when recovery is possible.

Jari

Jari is a 4 year old Finnish Lapphund in Crofton, MD, who needs $2,000 for Pancreatitis/GI Disease Treatment.

Crofton, MD

Jari is a Finnish Lapphund we adopted two years ago. He is a bright part of our little family, bringing joy to our two boys. After having cataract surgery, he went from being a show dog to our family dog. He has become a part of our family and is especially popular amongst the many teenagers we mentor out of our home. Jari needed an expensive surgery to remove his eye just over a year ago, which we have already paid for out of pocket. Now, only a few weeks after Beth's dad had a stroke and we needed to completely replace our HVAC system, Jari has racked up over $5,000 in Vet bills with a Pancreas/GI issue that is treatable. He was seen both by Family Veterinary Clinic and Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty. Jari is as precocious as he is fluffy. We joke that he and Desmond (our little guy with Down Syndrome) make up the "Mischief Squad," as they are prone to going on adventures together. Jari will flop down in front of the many teenagers we host in our home, looking for a belly rub or attention. We love him dearly and it breaks our heart to see him have a treatable issue that we can't afford. Jari's high bills are the second we have endured in a short time. This is coming just days after having to pay for a full HVAC replacement and on two teachers' salaries we simply cannot afford these extra medical bills.

Milagro

Milagro is a 3 year old Yorkshire Terrier in Bowie, MD, who needs $2,000 for Lung Contusion Care.

Bowie, MD

My husband saw a little dog get hit by a car and rushed him to an emergency vet. After receiving support on Facebook, we decided to save him and named him Milagros, meaning "miracle" in Spanish. He is severely matted, unneutered, and has no microchip. Thankfully, the vet shaved him for comfort. We've reached out for help but no luck. For now, we’ll bring him home and figure out the next steps. Milagro has a hemorrhage in his left lung, but his right side is fine. His matted fur protected him. He’s in an oxygen chamber at Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty and expected to recover well. His bloodwork is normal, and his kidneys and electrolytes are great. He has a blood clot in his kidney, so he’s receiving fluids and medication. We hope to bring him home in the morning. Milagro is special because he instantly connected with my husband, who felt compelled to help him. He could have passed away before receiving care, but they trusted each other in this battle. Milagro put his full trust in my husband, and we are committed to saving him. We’re in a difficult spot after recent events set us back financially. We paid $3K upfront hoping for donations, but Milagro’s prolonged vet stay is making it hard to continue. Thankfully, the vet is helping, and we hope for good news tomorrow.

BERTRAM

Bertram is a 2-year-old Neighborhood Special in Hollywood, MD, who needs $2,000 for Urethral Prolapse Fix.

Hollywood, MD

Bertram joined our family about a year ago when we were going through a difficult time. At that time, our son was facing some significant health issues and requested a dog for emotional support. Bertram has an innate ability to understand the needs of everyone around him. He encourages Eric to be active, provides the perfect cuddling companion for the girls, demonstrates great patience with our snippy cats, and is an excellent playmate for our other dog. But what makes Bertram special is how he's helped our family heal from the trauma we dealt with last year. As parents, we're in his debt for kids to find their smiles again. A week ago, Bertram started dripping blood EVERYWHERE. After seeking medical attention for our pet, he was diagnosed with a urethral prolapse and advised to undergo surgery. Our first attempt with our regular veterinarian was unsuccessful. On Tuesday, we received confirmation of the failure and were recommended to take our pet, Bertram, to a specialist. We were quoted between $4500-$6k. Following the frequent vet visits this past week and the costs of his initial surgery, we're tapped out financially. We don't have specialist money, but Bertram must see a specialist now. We're determined to help Bertram through this and not above asking for help.

Ziggy is a 6-year-old Australian Shepard/Border Collie Mix in Lusby, MD, who needs $2,000 for CHOP Chemotherapy.

Lusby, MD

I rescued our Ziggy in Nashville, TN when he was just 4 months old. I saw our sweet natured boy all snuggled up in the back & once he laid in my arms he didn't want to leave my side - we knew then it was meant to be. I still remember his bright brown eyes staring at me, so excited for his forever home. The four of us include Mom, Dad, Ziggy, and his baby brother Murphy and we now reside in MD. Our Ziggy boy was named after Ziggy Stardust but goes by many nicknames including: Zig Zag, Seal Pup, Our Speckled Cow & more. He loves spending time outside on the front porch or in the back yard as much as possible when he's not nuzzled up with his favorite sloth plush toy in his bed. He and his baby brother love playing tug of war whenever they can! Ziggy's favorite friends include Abby & Jerry and their beautiful pup, Ellie. He also loves both of our nieces, sisters, his mimi/nee nee, and papas. He also adores his auntie Kathy. He enjoys playing in the snow, playing in the sand more than the water at the beach, going for long hikes, hanging his head out of the window in the car, and snuggling up on the couch with us. We noticed him not quite acting like himself around Christmas. All of his lymph nodes were completely swollen/inflamed, so we went in for immediate testing. He has recently been diagnosed with Stage IV B Cell Lymphoma and began treatment with our incredible oncology team. The associated costs with his continued aggressive chemotherapy, diet and medication needs have hit our household by surprise as you can imagine. We appreciate any and all support in getting our baby boy back to his old self and giving him the best quality of life.

Echo

Echo is a 7-year-old Mixed in Upper Marlboro, MD, who needs $2,000 for MRI.

Upper Marlboro, MD

I adopted Echo January 2015 when he was 3 months old. I lost my previous dog 1.5 years prior due to a random snake bite out in our yard. I live with chronic Lyme, so having an animal companion is extremely important for me. Echo has a spoiled lifestyle, before getting sick, he had his own room, he currently has a dedicated space in the house with wall padding and non slip floor padding. Echo has always been a pretty lazy dog, so laying around and receiving pets and treats was his typical day. Before getting sick, Echo would play with the neighbors dog for a maximum of 10 mins and that’s it, he’d be ready to go back inside and lay down. He still receives pets and treats but with some struggle. Echo is a very smart pup, which also concerns me now, because I know he fully understands that something terrible has happened to him. When he was a baby, I was amazed at how fast he caught on to potty training, he had at the most 3 accidents in the house while learning, and after that, no more accidents. About 7 months ago Echo began having trouble with stairs, I assumed it was just joint pain. When I took him for his grooming appointment, they said they weren’t comfortable grooming him because he was extremely disoriented. He had an MRI that determined he has some cerebellar issues going on. He’s currently doing acupuncture at Healing Paws, and water therapy at Aquatic Paws. For the last 10 years I’ve personally been struggling with Lyme which has ruined every part of my life. I’m currently on disability and exhausting all finances to get Echo better. Mentally nor physically could I handle losing him at any point but especially not right now,

Teddy Bear

Teddy Bear is a 1-year-old Short Hair Domestic in Silver Spring, MD, who needs $1,900 for chemotherapy.

Silver Spring, MD

My baby boy Teddy came into my life on October 2020. I spotted him on a website and immediately fell in love with his cute little face, brought him home and named him Teddy Bear. I inquired about Teddies medical records but did not hear back from the owner after adoption. He is our very first pet for our family and we were all very excited to enjoy our lives with him! He is our very first pet in the family, and everyone is so in love with him. He sleeps a whole bunch, but when he is awake he likes to play catch, which is odd but it is his favorite thing to do with his favorite toy monkey. He loves going on long rides and sticking his face out the window for some nice wind action. I am asking for help from you lovely people because I just recently graduated from college this week and learned about his condition right after. We have also drained our savings in initial diagnosis for his condition but will do anything to see him get better. Unfortunately, Teddy was diagnosed with high grade Lymphoma and fLV, which is feline leukemia virus. He is strictly an in door cat so we think he was exposed at the previous owners hands. His condition is extremely critical as high grade Lymphoma takes it course in a matter of weeks or months. For now, he is being put on initial treatment and steroids before starting his chemo therapy. His favorite toy is monkey, he brings it to us anytime he wants to play catch. He sleeps with monkey, naps with monkey and loves to enjoy snuggles. Where Teddy goes monkey goes. He loves playing laser tag and is a wall climber! Hes also very talkative and we love his little chrips and meows! He responds to me when I say "meow meow" so I would like to think he is very excited to communicate with us
