Milo

Milo is a 1.5-year-old Domestic Shorthair Cat in Norwalk, CT, who needs $2,000 for PU/Stone Removal Surgery and Catheter Placements.

Norwalk, CT

I adopted Milo as a small kitten with his sister, Daisy. Milo also has two other cat siblings, Fireball and Mellie, who are older cats. Milo and Daisy have always been best friends but, Milo softened the hearts of everyone. Fireball, my grumpy old man, has come to love Milo more than I could’ve anticipated. Milo’s name, as he is an orange cat, comes from the movie Milo and Otis. Milo is the sweetest cat that I have ever known, and I’ve known many cats. He is always happy and kind as well as curious and cuddly. He is the glue that holds us together and he is missed by his entire family greatly while he has been in the hospital. He is the only cat that can cuddle with my oldest and grumpiest cat, Mellie. She will not tolerate anyone else. He is just the sweetest boy ever. Milo is very sweet but he is also my goofiest cat. He is my nosy boy and will stick his head in any bag to see what you have. I regularly find him going through any shopping bags and my backpack if I leave it unzipped! Any box is immediately his box to play in but he is willing to share. He is always cuddling with a sibling or with me, he rarely sleeps alone. Milo has been a healthy cat since I got him until he has his first urethral blockage two weeks ago. He had an emergency procedure and then got to come home. He seemed to be doing well then blocked again. For this, he needed another emergency procedure. The vet discovered he had stones and strongly recommended surgery. He has had two catheters put in, a major surgery, and multiple days in hospital. Recently, we had to move suddenly after leaving a bad relationship. With this, there was less money coming into our home. I also just completed my masters and have not yet found a full time job. I work two part time jobs and do my best to provide for my pets.

Percy

Percy is a 6-year-old American Shorthair Cat in Danbury, CT, who needs $2,000 for Hiatal Hernia.

Danbury, CT

I adopted my Percy boy when he was around 6 months old. My cat of 18 years had passed a few months before and a store I was at one day was hosting an adoption event. Percy was an older kitten that was overlooked because he was very timid and shy. I took him to a chair away from the crowd, talking to him softly while petting him. He calmed down and began to purr. I adopted him a few days later. Percy is my calm, quiet one. He loves to cuddle at bedtime. He is also my "grumpy old man", though he isn't old. He has a dog and a cat brother. He is snuggling with his feline brother, Elliott, in the attached pic just weeks before Percy getting sick. I foster cats & kittens, which is where the "grumpy old man" part comes in. He tolerates the kittens' antics, but puts them in their place too. LOL Percy believes he is the king of the house and common cat play is beneath him. He is oddly particular in his choice of cat toys, black toy mice and my hairbands only. Both of which he loves to play fetch with. His favorite activity is watching the birds and squirrels out back. When he sees me settled in under a blanket, he will hop up to make biscuits, curl up, and purr contentedly. A week ago, Percy began vomitting. It was extreme and unusual. I took him to the vet where an X-ray showed, what was initially believed to be an obstruction in his esophagus. He is still undergoing tests, but we now believe he has a hiatal hernia. This is extremely rare in cats. He has not eaten in 5 days. He will likely need surgery. He is currently at the VCA emergency center in Norwalk, CT. This expense has been very large and unexpected. My emergency fund has been depleted, with much treatment still to come. He is young, only 6, & this condition is treatable with the appropriate care. I would be extremely grateful for any help provided to get my boy healthy.

Boo

Boo is a 6-year-old Shorthair Cat in Bridgeport, CT, who needs $2,000 for Perineal Urethrostomy.

Bridgeport, CT

Boo was rescued along with his mama, Chloe, a feral street cat who was brought to a shelter when she was pregnant. He lives with his family, Pete, Sue, and Amanda and Chloe. Boo is such a joy in all our lives. He still bugs his Mama and can be a bit of a food/treat bully, but he is also sweet and affectionate. He loves lazy afternoons basking where the sun hits and looking at the birds out the window in the morning. He sleeps with his adopted mom, Amanda and naps frequently with Chloe. He loves his scratch pads and mouse toys and the happiest boy. Boo has been my best friend since I got him. He never lets me go to the bathroom alone, and always greets me when I get home from work. He is prompt to alert us when it is meal times, and pretends he is not afraid of his dog cousins. He is terrified of thunder and loud noises which unfortunately is cause of some of his health issues. Boo has had bladder issues since 2021, which is common for male cats. He had a full block last week which is life threatening and will be prone to reoccurrences. He had a painful recovery and is still not fully able to completely empty his bladder. If he undergoes a perineal urethrostomy, he will be able to have a positive prognosis and prevent these painful urinary blocks from happening. His hospitalization plus subsequent visits back to the vet have cost over $5,000 just this week. I applied for additional credit and was denied. The surgery is quoted between 6-8k. I simply do not have the funds but do not want him to suffer needlessly because of that.

Grayson

Grayson is an eleven-week-old puppy in Norwalk, CT, who needs $2,000 for emergency surgery.

Norwalk, CT • Pet Animal Welfare Society

How this adorable puppy was left to fend for himself on the streets in Texas is hard to comprehend. And if the Pet Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) didn't rescue Grayson, he would not have made it. The group brought him to their shelter in Connecticut, and that's when they realized he was in big trouble. "Grayson came to PAWS with his sister, Gemma. They couldn't be more adorable. They were both infested with parasites and were very lethargic and not eating. The sister's health turned around after deworming protocol. However, Grayson continued to be lethargic and wasn't eating," Ellen E., from the nonprofit group, tells Waggle. He was rushed to VCA Veterinary and Referral and Emergency Center in Norwalk, CT. He was diagnosed with bowel obstruction from the worms, and he needed emergency surgery. Without the operation, he would have died. "Grayson is very special because he had 0% surviving if left as a stray," Ellen says. "Post-surgery, both the sister and Grayson are acting playfully as puppies do. I hope we all can agree that an 11-week old puppy deserves a chance at a healthy life. This is a life worth saving. Just look at his beautiful face." Now the PAWS is trying to raise the money to pay for this unexpected and hefty expense. They hope you'll give to Grayson's campaign. It will help the group pay off his bill and allow them continue to save more pups who need medical help.

Photo of Fennel

Fennel

Fennel is a four-month-old German Shepherd mix in Norwalk, CT, who needs $1,500 for urgent care.

Norwalk, CT • Pet Animal Welfare Society

Fennel started his life in one of the worst places in the U.S. for dogs: South Texas. Countless sick and injured dogs live on the streets. Only the lucky ones get saved. When PAWS, the Pet Animal Welfare Society in CT, first saw Fennel's picture and cute face, they knew they had to rescue him. Once he arrived in New England, the group got quite a shock: the pup had two infected, gaping, oozing lacerations on his leg. Fennel was limping in pain and needed emergency care. "We don't know how it happened," Ellen E., with PAWS, tells Waggle. "He could have had a terrible history. Maybe he was stabbed? Or perhaps he just got caught on something?" They rushed him to VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center, where the medical team cleaned Fennel's wounds, put a drain in the larger laceration, and sutured it closed. "If it had been left untreated, he could have lost his leg," Ellen says. Once Fennel heals up, he will be ready for adoption and ready to find his forever home. "He is smart, sweet, and a sensitive boy who will do well with an active family," Ellen says. "He is a very friendly pup who gets along with everyone. He has such a great disposition. He is outgoing and comfortable with people and other animals. He is a perfect size and will be someone's best friend." PAWS relies on donations to help pay the medical bills for all the animals the organization saves, including Fennel. They're hoping you will pitch in this holiday season and help them pay off his emergency veterinary tab. "We thank everyone for their kindness to come to his aid," Ellen says. Will you help Fennel get back on all four feet again?

Clyde

Clyde is a 6-year-old domestic short hair in Norwalk, CT, who needs $2,000 for Perineal Urethrostomy.

Norwalk, CT • Pet Animal Welfare Society

Clyde originally came to Paws in 2018 as a friendly stray. He was adopted after and we heard nothing thing further until Easter night when the emergency vet called to say that Clyde was there with a urinary blockage and had been left with them to euthanize. He needed a catheter ASAP in order to pee on his own and the vet felt he needed surgery to prevent future urinary issues. Clyde was very affectionate with us at the shelter and we can only assume with his adopters as well. They never provided an update but now that Clyde is back with us, he is so sweet, rolling over and showing his belly, rubbing all over you and depending attention. Anyone looking for a big lap cat is going to find him irresistible! Paws is a small animal shelter who goes above and beyond for the animals in our care. Despite fewer and smaller donations in 2020 we do our best to provide the best medical care possible. A surprise vet bill means less money to take care of other cats and dogs in need. Clyde was adopted in 2018 and we did not hear back from the adopters for any follow-ups. We got a call on Easter night that he was at the emergency vet and blocked, not able to pee. Doing more research revealed that that adopter had brought him to a local vet office 3 weeks ago for urinary issues but as far as we know that is the only care he got in 3 years. Clyde is so outgoing and affectionate with everyone! He loves flopping on his side to get belly rubs and it is a big belly! He needs to lose a bit of weight to be healthier but he is a cute "chonk" for now. Clyde is even still playful after all he's been through recently which is amazing. He has a great personality and big personality.

Preston

Preston is a 10-week-old Domestic Shorthair in Norwalk, CT, who needs $1,685 for support care.

Norwalk, CT • Pet Animal Welfare Society

Preston is a sweet kitten just 10 weeks old who came in with his four siblings to our shelter. He was in foster a couple weeks and all the babies are very friendly. A couple days after he came to the shelter he became very lethargic and had labored breathing. We took him to the vet who determined he has pneumonia which will require round the clock fluids, antibiotics, feeding and supporting care. Poor Preston has never been part of a family. While he did spend time in foster it's not the same as having your very own special person to sleep and cuddle with. We're hoping that with the supportive care he will get at the emergency vet, he will pull through and go on to find a loving forever home of his very own. We are a small shelter with limited financial resources during the best of times. Since COVID donations are down by 50% and we are struggling to provide even basic care. Preston is just 10 weeks old and could have his whole life ahead of him, with just a little help now. Preston is so sweet and cuddly, even on the day he became ill he was purring and snuggling with us. Like all kittens he has been very playful, and good natured. With a little financial help and some luck, we hope he will go on to have a long life full of kooky behavior that makes some lucky family smile.

Russell

Russell is an 8-year-old Chihuahua in Ridgefield , CT, who needs $2,000 for surgery for abdominal abscess.

Ridgefield, CT

Russell was rescued from a shelter in Florida. He had been dropped there prior to a hurricane and his family never came back for him. My oldest son was working as a fisheries biologist and volunteered at the shelter. Russell had been there six months by then and needed lots of care. My son adopted him and when he moved back home to go back to school-he brought Russell with him. I fell in love instantly and stole him away from Jason. Ok we share but truly Russell has become such a wonderful companion!

Bronx is a 1-year-old Domestic Short Hair in Norwalk, CT who needs $2,000 for disconnected elbow surgery.

Norwalk, CT • Pet Animal Welfare Society

Bronx came to us as a stray with his brother Binx. They are very bonded and we are hoping to adopt them together. These boys were very shy when they first came to us and could barely be touched. They have made so much progress the last couple months, Bronx especially loves to be petted, brushed and spend time with people.

Myles

Myles is in who needs $2,000 for .

GREENWICH, CT

Myles still needs a miracle...while he is at home, he still has 104 temp and won't eat or drink. He doesn't have the strength in his back legs to walk for more than a couple of steps and then is exhausted. He can't use the litter box without that strength, so wee-wee pads help. I'm keeping him crated so that he isn't feverishly/ aimlessly wandering, wasting the little energy he has...i need that energy to work towards healing him. He is still extremely ill. I've got to get his temperature down and syringe feed him as he will not survive without eating for the next couple of days. Please God, help Myles. Please bring him back to me. Please heal his infection and help his temperature to return to normal. I pray... _________________________________________________________ I wrote that yesterday after I picked Myles up at the hospital. The doctors recommended that he stay there but, honestly, I have depleted my funds. Myles is still not stable as of 5 a.m. Tuesday. I still feel if I could have him in the hospital for a couple more days, the doctors might be able to stabilize him to get over the infection. I realize this is no guarantee that he will recover which makes this so difficult. I don't have any further funds to hospitalize him as the doctors recommended. I am asking for $2500 - 3500 for my darling's cause to try to get him over the hump of this infection. If you are financially able (and please, do not contribute if it is stretching yourself), please consider helping me and Myles.
