Rufus Needs Your Help: Emergency Care and Ongoing Treatment

West Palm Beach, FL • Rescue Dog Network

In West Palm Beach, Florida, two dogs were left behind when their owner never returned. With nowhere else to go, they needed help, and Rescue Dog Network stepped in. Rufus and his brother Bear were brought into safety, but it quickly became clear that Rufus needed far more than routine care. He arrived with a persistent urinary tract infection that did not resolve with initial treatment. While managing that, Rufus experienced a sudden and severe allergic reaction late one night, scratching intensely at his ears and paws and clearly in distress. He was rushed to the emergency vet for immediate care. From there, his medical needs became more complex. Despite treatment, his infection continued. Additional diagnostics, including an ultrasound, were needed. Rufus had also recently been neutered, and veterinarians began investigating whether an enlarged prostate — more common in dogs neutered later in life — could be contributing to his condition. Imaging confirmed that his prostate is enlarged, and his care team continues to monitor his progress as his body adjusts. So far, Rufus’ care has included: Emergency veterinary treatment Diagnostic testing, including ultrasound Ongoing medications Surgical care These costs have added up quickly, but they were necessary to give Rufus a real chance at recovery. Today, Rufus is safe, healing, and thriving in a dedicated foster home. He may have already found his future family, but before that can happen, he needs to be fully healthy and stable. Rescue Dog Network is committed to seeing him through, but cases like this are exactly why support is so critical. Your donation helps cover Rufus’ medical care and allows the rescue to continue saying “yes” when dogs like him need urgent help. Every dollar makes a difference.

Rescued Rocky at 3 at the HS, was told he was transferred from a Solano county shelter and that’s all we knew when we took him home. Rocky soon showed his carisma affection and natural charm. Rocky has been great companionship for my daughter who has depression and anxiety. Rocky has done a lots of hiking, running and fetching and his favorite beach walking! Rocky is my Hershey kiss nose dog 🍫 Now at 11 yrs Rocky struggles walking, an xray at the Bel key Marin Animal Hospital in shows a torn ligament in his left knee. At the same time protein in his urine was found and low thyroid was diagnosed. Medication for thyroid is not an alternative. Follow up blood test for thyroid and urine are recommended as well as referral for ortho specialist, brace, routinely injection for pain meds Rocky loves females specially the ones with a bag around their waist! Athletic, affectionate who did not tolerate big dogs, always walked leashed, now he plays with all types of dogs. Rocky has been a life saver helping both my daughter and I survived a divorce and rough times. It has been a long journey for Rocky and I’m honored carry him on every hike and be Rocky’s emotional support every sec Rocky, full of energy and willing to always go and play did not give me any signal of health deterioration until recently. Unfortunately I have already used all assets available to me to cover for his initial treatment and I’m out of options

Avocado

Avocado is a 3 year old Mix-Breed in Westerville , OH, who needs $6,000 for Catheterization; Perineal Urethrostomy.

Westerville, OH

I met Avocado when he was just three days old and my heart knew the moment I saw him that he was meant to be in my life. I had planned to name him Mittens(for obvious reasons- look at those socks!) but realized that was too basic for my boy. The first thought of the most ridiculous name I could think of- Avocado- felt so right when I said it out loud. Typical 20-something girl and her best friend. In March, Avocado suffered a urinary block, requiring a several days vet stay. Despite urinary support diet and daily medications, he suffered another block 4 weeks later. Since Avi blocked so quickly after initial treatment, he requires Perineal Urethrostomy to widen his urethra. Both incidences, Avi was diagnosed by local emergency vets and has received his care with Cryan Vet Hospital. Avocado is my best friend. He is so talkative and acts as my shadow at home. We play fetch every day and he has been trained to do tricks! He can sit, laydown, stand, spin, shake- all on command (of course only for treats). He waits for me in the window and greets me at the door whenever I come home. At bedtime, he snuggles under the covers and shares my pillow. He is my soul cat. Avi is my whole world, and I can't imagine life without him. We are approaching $10,000 in vet bills the last month. This is extremely financially taxing. Avocado and I have exhausted all of our resources to the point I've had to consider withdrawing care. Please help us.
