Bradford Jack

Bradford Jack is a 1 year old Mix-Breed in WHITESTONE, NY, who needs $2,000 for surgery.

WHITESTONE, NY • NYC Second Chance Rescue

Just days ago, Bradford Jack was returned to the care of NYC Second Chance Rescue under heartbreaking circumstances. His adopter was facing a crisis at home and made the difficult decision to surrender Bradford Jack so he could be safe. What happened next made that decision even more significant. Before Bradford Jack returned to rescue, he got into the trash and began vomiting repeatedly. His condition quickly became concerning, and his rescue team rushed him to the veterinary hospital. X-rays revealed a linear foreign body lodged in Bradford Jack’s gastrointestinal tract. This is a life-threatening emergency. If left in place, a linear foreign body can cause severe intestinal damage, including tissue injury, perforation, infection, and potentially fatal complications. Bradford Bradford Jack is already severely dehydrated, and right now, he isn't stable enough to safely undergo anesthesia. His veterinary team is working urgently to change that. Bradford Jack is receiving IV fluids and medications to stabilize and rehydrate him. As soon as he is strong enough to safely undergo anesthesia, the veterinary team will perform surgery to remove the foreign material and assess the damage it may have caused. There is no time to waste. And while Bradford Jack is fighting for his life, we want to make one thing very clear: we do not blame his adopter. Domestic violence can force people into unimaginable situations and impossible choices. Bradford Jack's adopter made the heartbreaking decision to get him somewhere safe while navigating her own crisis. She didn't stop caring about him—she made sure he had people who could protect him and get him the emergency medical attention he needed. Returning Bradford Jack may very well have saved his life. Now, NYC Second Chance Rescue is fighting to save him once again. 💙 Please donate toward Bradford Jack's emergency care today. His hospitalization, stabilization, surgery, medications, and recovery will be costly, but every dollar can help give this sweet boy the chance to survive this frightening ordeal. If you can't donate, please share Jack's story. Your share could reach someone who can help. Bradford Jack has already endured more upheaval than any dog should. Now he needs a safe place to heal, a team willing to fight for him, and a community willing to stand behind him. Please help Bradford Jack get through this emergency and give him the second chance he deserves.

Jimmy Survived a Lifetime of Cruelty. Now He’s Fighting to Survive

WHITESTONE, NY • NYC Second Chance Rescue

Jimmy should have known nothing but kindness. Instead, his body tells a heartbreaking story of unimaginable cruelty and prolonged neglect. When NYC Second Chance Rescue received an urgent call about a dog who had been brutally struck by a car in Queens, volunteers rushed to help. They expected to find an injured dog in need of emergency care. What they found was so much worse. Jimmy was severely emaciated—nothing but skin and bones. He was covered in feces, ticks, and fleas. Deep rope wounds encircled his neck, and an old, infected wound on his head was infested with maggots. And then there was the damage from the car. Jimmy’s front leg was fractured, leaving him in tremendous pain. He was rushed immediately to an emergency hospital, where veterinarians began working to stabilize him and determine just how much this poor dog had endured. ### After extensive X-rays, bloodwork, examinations, and consultations with multiple specialists, Jimmy’s veterinary team uncovered an overwhelming list of medical problems. His front leg is fractured and requires specialized orthopedic surgery. His head wound is severely infected and needs aggressive treatment. Several of his teeth are fractured all the way down to the roots, leaving painful nerves exposed. Because of the extent of the damage, Jimmy will likely need most, if not all, of his teeth removed by a dental specialist. He also has corneal scarring in one eye—another sign of trauma from his past. And then came another devastating diagnosis: Jimmy tested positive for heartworm disease. His heartworm status makes his upcoming surgery even more complicated. His veterinary team is performing additional testing to determine whether microfilariae are circulating in his bloodstream. If they are present, Jimmy will need additional medication and careful monitoring. But his heartworm treatment cannot begin until he is stable enough to undergo the surgeries he desperately needs. ### Jimmy has already survived circumstances no dog should ever have experienced. Now, instead of being left to suffer, Jimmy has people fighting for him. He has veterinarians caring for him. He has rescuers advocating for him. And he has a chance to finally learn what safety, comfort, and love feel like. But that chance comes with an enormous medical cost. Jimmy is preparing for surgery to repair his fractured leg, and his treatment will not end there. His dental procedures, wound care, heartworm treatment, additional diagnostics, medications, hospitalization, and ongoing monitoring will all add to his growing medical bills. Jimmy’s road to recovery is going to be long—and he needs us beside him every step of the way. 💜 Will you help Jimmy get the care he needs to finally leave his painful past behind? Every donation helps NYC Second Chance Rescue continue providing the emergency and specialty veterinary care Jimmy needs to survive and heal. And if you aren't able to donate, please share Jimmy’s story. A single share could put his story in front of someone who can help. Jimmy has spent far too long suffering. Now, he deserves the chance to spend the rest of his life knowing only love. 🐾

A Split-Second Accident Put Draco's Life in Danger—Now He Needs Your Help

WHITESTONE, NY • NYC Second Chance Rescue

Draco has already beaten the odds once. Now, he's fighting through another life-threatening emergency. Nearly a year ago, NYC Second Chance Animal Rescue saved Draco from the New York City Animal Care Centers (ACC) after he developed a serious upper respiratory infection. The municipal shelter didn't have the resources to provide the medical care he desperately needed, so the rescue stepped in, giving him the chance to heal and start over. Draco recovered beautifully and settled into a loving foster home, where he has been safe, happy, and deeply loved ever since. Then, in a split second, everything changed. After accidentally swallowing a piece of a rubber yoga mat, Draco's foster family rushed him to the emergency hospital as soon as they realized what had happened. Veterinarians explained that the rubber material could absorb stomach fluids, expand, and create a life-threatening intestinal blockage if it wasn't removed immediately. The veterinary team first attempted to retrieve the object using a minimally invasive procedure, hoping to spare Draco from major surgery. Unfortunately, the procedure was unsuccessful, leaving the team with no choice but to perform emergency abdominal surgery to remove the foreign object and save his life. Draco is now recovering, but this unexpected emergency has created overwhelming veterinary expenses. NYC Second Chance Animal Rescue never hesitated to approve the lifesaving care Draco needed. They made the decision every rescue hopes they can make—that cost would never stand in the way of saving one of their animals. Now they need your help. Emergency diagnostics, anesthesia, specialized procedures, abdominal surgery, hospitalization, pain management, and follow-up care come at a significant cost, placing an unexpected financial burden on the rescue. Will you help Draco recover from this frightening ordeal? Every tax-deductible donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward Draco's emergency medical care and recovery. If you're unable to donate today, sharing his story could help him reach someone who can. This was a heartbreaking accident that can happen even in the most loving and attentive homes. Draco's foster family acted immediately, giving him the best possible chance to survive. Draco has already overcome so much in his young life. Thanks to the compassion of his rescue, he was given a second chance once before. With your support, he can recover from this emergency and continue the happy life he was finally beginning to enjoy.

Blueberry's Leg Was Torn Off in a Lawn Mower Accident. Help Save His Life.

WHITESTONE, NY • NYC Second Chance Rescue

One moment changed Blueberry's life forever. This sweet dog suffered unimaginable injuries after a horrific lawn mower accident ripped off part of his leg, leaving him with a catastrophic wound and in unimaginable pain. By the time rescuers learned about him, half of his leg was already gone. No animal should ever have to endure this kind of trauma. When NYC Second Chance Rescue received the urgent plea for help from Alabama, there wasn't a second to waste. The rescue immediately stepped in, arranging emergency veterinary care and rushing Blueberry to the hospital, where a team of veterinarians began evaluating the full extent of his injuries. Blueberry needed an emergency amputation. Without hesitation, the rescue agreed to let surgeons quickly remove what remained of his severely damaged leg. The surgery was successful, and Blueberry is now beginning the difficult road to recovery. While the worst of the trauma is behind him, his journey is far from over. Blueberry is receiving intensive pain management, antibiotics, wound care, and around-the-clock monitoring as he recovers from major surgery. He'll need follow-up veterinary visits, medications, bandage care, and plenty of time to heal before he can begin adjusting to life as a three-legged dog. Thankfully, dogs are incredibly resilient. Once Blueberry has recovered, there's every reason to believe he can enjoy a happy, active life. But right now, his focus is simply on healing. Emergency medical care is expensive, and every hour of treatment adds to Blueberry's growing veterinary bill. NYC Second Chance Rescue refused to let him suffer alone, but they can't do it without compassionate supporters standing beside them. Your tax-deductible donation today will help cover Blueberry's emergency hospitalization, diagnostics, surgery, pain medication, and recovery care. Every gift, no matter the size, gives this brave dog another step toward healing and the second chance he so desperately deserves. If you're unable to donate, please consider sharing Blueberry's story. Together, we can help turn one of the worst days of his life into the beginning of a brighter future. 8/5/26 Update When Blueberry first arrived at the shelter, we shared the information that had been provided to us: that his leg had been severed in a lawnmower accident. At the time, the shelter that sent us the urgent plea was legally prohibited from disclosing the circumstances surrounding his case because of an active investigation. Now, they are permitted to speak and the truth is horrifying. Blueberry was seized through the court system, and his former owner is facing animal cruelty charges. Investigators do not believe that Blueberry lost his leg in a lawnmower accident. They believe he was intentionally attacked by a human and that his leg was deliberately severed. We know how difficult this is to read. We want our community to understand that we initially shared the only information legally available to us. Investigations like this cannot be compromised, because justice and ensuring that animal abusers are held accountable must remain the priority. Because of your support, we were able to provide Blueberry with the critical care he so desperately needed. Surgeons amputated what remained of his badly damaged leg, and he is now receiving the care, safety and compassion he should have had all along. We are outraged. We are devastated. But above all, we are committed to standing beside Blueberry as he heals and to fighting for the justice he deserves.

Albert Has Suffered Long Enough—Help Him Finally Heal

WHITESTONE, NY • NYC Second Chance Rescue

When Albert arrived at NYC Second Chance Rescue, it was impossible to ignore the pain he had been carrying for far too long. Hidden beneath years of severe matting and neglect was a dog who had been silently suffering. As veterinarians carefully examined him, they uncovered one heartbreaking medical issue after another. Albert has painful ulcers in both eyes that make every blink uncomfortable. He is also battling a severe bacterial and yeast skin infection that has left his skin inflamed and irritated. On top of that, he has a heart murmur and bloodwork showing multiple concerning abnormalities, including elevated liver values, mildly elevated kidney values, inflammation throughout his body, electrolyte imbalances, and a borderline low thyroid level. While we're grateful that testing ruled out tick-borne diseases and intestinal parasites, doctors know there is still much more to uncover. They are now concerned that an underlying condition—such as Cushing's disease or hypothyroidism—may be contributing to everything Albert is facing. The next step is a comprehensive abdominal ultrasound to evaluate his liver, kidneys, adrenal glands, and other vital organs so his veterinary team can determine exactly what is causing these abnormalities and create the treatment plan he desperately needs. The good news is that Albert hasn't given up. Despite everything he has endured, he continues to eat well, accepts the care he's receiving, and greets his rescuers with a gentle, loving spirit that shines through his pain. Soon, we hope to move him into a dedicated medical foster home where he can continue healing surrounded by comfort, patience, and love. For the first time in what may be years, Albert finally has people fighting for him. Now he needs a community willing to stand beside him. Your donation will help provide the diagnostics, medications, veterinary care, and ongoing treatment Albert needs to finally get answers—and, most importantly, a chance to live a life free from constant pain. Albert has spent far too long suffering in silence. Together, we can give him the future he has always deserved. Please donate today and help Albert continue his journey toward healing. Every gift, no matter the size, brings him one step closer to a healthier, happier life. 7/23/26 Update Albert recently underwent an echocardiogram, which revealed valve regurgitation on both sides of his heart. While that diagnosis may sound frightening, there is good news: his atrial valves are not enlarged, which means his heart is compensating well. At this time, his cardiology team has determined that he does not need heart medication, and they will continue to monitor his condition. His abdominal ultrasound also brought a wave of relief. The scan showed mostly age-related changes, and veterinarians have officially ruled out Cushing's disease—one of the biggest concerns they had when Albert first arrived. The only significant finding was an enlarged prostate, which will be addressed during his upcoming neuter surgery. Additional testing confirmed that Albert has hypothyroidism, and he has now started medication to help regulate his thyroid levels. With treatment, his veterinary team is hopeful this will improve many of the symptoms that have been affecting his overall health. Tomorrow marks another important milestone in Albert's recovery. He is scheduled to undergo both his neuter surgery and a much-needed dental procedure to relieve the years of pain caused by neglected teeth. Because these procedures require an extended period under anesthesia, his veterinarians will wait another one to two weeks before bringing him back to receive his vaccines, allowing his body time to recover safely. While Albert still has a journey ahead of him, today's update is filled with cautious optimism. Every diagnostic test has brought valuable answers, allowing his veterinary team to develop the best possible treatment plan. For the first time in a long time, Albert isn't just surviving—he's finally getting the care he has always deserved. Thank you for standing by Albert throughout his recovery. If you're able, please consider making a donation to help cover his ongoing medical care, medications, follow-up appointments, and recovery. Every contribution helps give Albert the healthy, comfortable future he's waited so long to experience. 8/5/26 Update When Albert first arrived in our care, his condition was heartbreaking. Years of neglect had left him painfully matted and suffering from a long list of untreated medical issues. He was diagnosed with painful ulcers in both eyes, a severe bacterial and yeast skin infection, a heart murmur, elevated liver and kidney values, inflammatory changes, electrolyte imbalances, and other concerning abnormalities that required extensive diagnostics and ongoing treatment. Over the weeks that followed, Albert underwent countless veterinary appointments, bloodwork, medications, and specialized care. Every step forward was made possible by the incredible support of this community, which refused to let him continue to suffer. Today, we are overjoyed to share the update we've all been waiting for... Albert has been adopted! This sweet senior finally has a family of his very own, one that saw beyond his medical challenges and chose to give him exactly what he has always deserved: love, comfort, and a place to call home. Albert's journey is proof that rescue changes lives. Because someone chose to adopt, another dog in need now has the opportunity to be saved. Thank you to everyone who donated, shared his story, cheered him on, and believed in him every step of the way. You helped give Albert the happy ending he always deserved. Happy Tails, Albert.

Help Rocket Heal After a Devastating Dog Attack

WHITESTONE, NY • NYC Second Chance Rescue

Rocket is just a puppy. She should be spending her days playing, exploring, and discovering the world—not fighting to recover from devastating injuries that no young dog should ever have to endure. Just days ago, Rocket was surrendered to a shelter after suffering for more than 24 hours following a brutal attack by another dog. By the time she arrived, the extent of her injuries was heartbreaking. Her head was severely swollen, covered in multiple puncture wounds, and it was clear she had been living in unimaginable pain. NYC Second Chance Rescue immediately stepped in to give Rocket the emergency care she desperately needed. Although Rocket is now in stable condition, her fight is far from over. She has developed a significant infection from her wounds and remains incredibly weak. While antibiotics are beginning to help combat the infection, Rocket still has very little interest in eating, and her veterinary team is working around the clock to keep her comfortable with aggressive pain management and supportive care. Despite everything she's been through, this brave little puppy continues to fight. Rocket's recovery will require ongoing hospitalization, medications, wound care, diagnostics, and close monitoring as her body heals from the trauma she endured. Your donation will help cover the cost of Rocket's emergency veterinary care and give her the best possible chance at a full recovery. Every dollar directly supports the lifesaving treatment she needs as she continues this difficult journey. If you're unable to donate, sharing Rocket's story is another powerful way to help. Every share gives this resilient puppy the opportunity to reach more compassionate people who want to be part of her recovery. Rocket has already survived the unthinkable. Now she needs all of us standing beside her as she fights toward a future filled with safety, love, and the carefree puppyhood she deserves. Thank you for supporting Rocket and the lifesaving work of NYC Second Chance Rescue. Together, we can help this courageous little girl write a much happier next chapter. 7/22/26 Update We're grateful to share a hopeful update on Rocket's recovery. Since beginning treatment, Rocket has continued to show encouraging signs of improvement. The severe swelling around her head has gone down significantly, and her wounds are responding well to the care she's receiving. While she still has a long road ahead, it's heartening to see her becoming a little brighter and more comfortable with each passing day. Rocket's veterinary team has also received the results of her wound culture, giving them a clearer understanding of the bacteria causing her infection. One of the strongest antibiotics available could be effective but also carries serious risks, including potential kidney damage. Because Rocket has been responding positively to her current treatment plan, her doctors are continuing to monitor her progress closely while carefully weighing the benefits and risks of any changes to her medications. Although these updates are encouraging, Rocket's recovery is far from over. She continues to need ongoing medical care, medications, wound management, and close veterinary supervision to ensure her injuries continue healing and to watch for any complications that could arise during her recovery. Your support is making every step of Rocket's healing journey possible. If you're able, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help cover the cost of her continued veterinary care. Every gift, no matter the size, helps provide the treatment, monitoring, and compassionate care this resilient puppy still needs. If you're unable to donate, sharing Rocket's story is another meaningful way to help. Thank you for standing beside Rocket and NYC Second Chance Rescue as she continues fighting toward the happy, healthy future she deserves. ❤️ 7/26/26 Update Rocket continues to amaze us every single day. We're so happy to share that this resilient little puppy is doing marvelously. Her wounds have healed beautifully, the painful swelling that once covered her head is completely gone, and she's officially graduated from her E-collar! While Rocket is still healing, she's feeling better with each passing day, and her personality is beginning to shine through. Watching her become more comfortable, more curious, and more confident has been incredibly rewarding for everyone who has followed her journey. Seeing Rocket finally getting the chance to simply enjoy life like the puppy she is reminds us why every effort to save her was worth it. We are so grateful to everyone who has donated, shared her story, and kept Rocket in your thoughts. Your compassion has made every milestone in her recovery possible, and she is proof of what can happen when people come together to give an animal a second chance. Rocket still has follow-up veterinary care ahead as she continues her recovery, and NYC Second Chance Rescue is caring for many other animals with urgent medical needs just like hers. If you're able, please consider making a donation today. Your support helps ensure Rocket can continue receiving the care she needs while also giving the next injured animal that arrives at the rescue the same chance to heal. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a lifesaving difference. 8/6/26 Update We have wonderful news to share about Rocket! Just a few weeks ago, Rocket was fighting for her life after suffering a brutal dog attack that left her covered in puncture wounds, battling a severe infection, and in unimaginable pain. Thanks to the incredible care of her veterinary team—and the support of this amazing community—Rocket has made an incredible recovery. Her wounds have healed beautifully, the infection is gone, and she's feeling like the happy puppy she was always meant to be. Even after everything she endured, Rocket never lost her sweet, loving personality, and she quickly won the hearts of everyone who met her. The best news of all? Rocket has officially been adopted into a wonderful forever home! After being medically cleared, she made the journey to New York, where she is now surrounded by a family who will love, protect, and cherish her for the rest of her life. Watching this once-injured puppy begin the next chapter of her life has been the greatest reward we could have hoped for. While we're celebrating Rocket's incredible transformation, we're not quite at the finish line yet. The emergency care that saved her life—including hospitalization, diagnostics, medications, wound treatment, and ongoing veterinary care—came at a significant cost, and we're still working to pay off the remaining medical expenses. If you're able, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help us finish covering Rocket's veterinary bills. Every dollar helps NYC Second Chance Rescue continue saying "yes" to animals facing medical emergencies just like Rocket's.

Mia Survived the Attack—Now She Needs Our Help to Keep Fighting

WHITESTONE, NY • NYC Second Chance Rescue

One moment changed Mia's life forever. This tiny five-year-old Yorkshire Terrier suffered a horrific attack by a much larger dog. The force of the attack threw her into the air and slammed her to the ground, leaving her critically injured and fighting for her life. When Mia arrived at the animal hospital, her condition was devastating. She was in full-blown shock. Her jaw was shattered in two places. Multiple ribs were broken. Her lungs were severely bruised. Large sections of skin along her body had been torn open. The veterinary team immediately began lifesaving treatment, but Mia's injuries were so severe that she needed to be transferred to a specialty critical care hospital where advanced surgical and emergency teams could take over her care. That is where NYC Second Chance Rescue came in. After rushing her to the special critical care hospital, Mia was stabilized enough to undergo surgery. But once surgeons began operating, they discovered the damage was even worse than anyone had hoped. Parts of Mia's jaw could not be saved. Her surgeons worked tirelessly to preserve as much function as possible and were able to save her lip, giving her the best chance at maintaining a functional mouth and quality of life moving forward. Today, Mia remains in critical condition. She has survived the initial trauma and major surgery, but her journey is far from over. She continues to require around-the-clock monitoring, pain management, specialized nursing care, medications, diagnostics, and ongoing treatment as her battered body fights to heal. Despite the unimaginable pain she has endured, Mia continues to fight. Now NYC Second Chance Rescue is fighting right alongside her. The cost of emergency critical care, specialty surgery, hospitalization, and recovery is substantial, but we refuse to let finances determine Mia's future. She deserves every opportunity to heal and experience the life that was nearly stolen from her. Please consider making a donation to help cover Mia's emergency medical expenses and ongoing care. Every contribution helps give this brave little survivor another chance to recover, heal, and one day know a future filled with comfort, safety, and love. Thank you for standing with Mia during the fight of her life. 7/1/26 Update We have some encouraging news to share about Mia. If you remember, this tiny Yorkie was attacked by a much larger dog, suffering multiple broken ribs, devastating bite wounds, and a shattered jaw. She underwent emergency surgery to save her life, but complications followed, including a severe infection, dead tissue that required surgical removal, and another major surgery after her jaw repair failed. Now, Mia is finally showing signs of progress. Her vital signs are stable, she's eating well, and she's moving both front legs a little better. While she still has some deficits, her medical team is hopeful they're caused by inflammation and her injuries rather than permanent damage. Her wound cultures also confirmed she's already on the correct antibiotics, allowing her team to continue treating the infection with confidence. Mia will remain hospitalized so her surgeon can reevaluate her. She still has a long road ahead, but today we're celebrating these small victories. Thank you for keeping Mia in your thoughts and making her care possible. Your support is giving this little fighter every chance to heal. If you can donate to Mia's care, it would be so helpful for our rescue. Her vet bill is going to be a very large one- but we are not giving up on her. 7/7/26 Update Because of your incredible generosity and support, Mia has officially been discharged from the hospital after weeks of intensive care, multiple surgeries, and around-the-clock treatment. Mia's journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. After suffering devastating injuries in an attack by a much larger dog, she underwent emergency surgery to repair her shattered jaw and treat her extensive wounds. Along the way, she faced heartbreaking setbacks, including a severe infection and another major surgery after her initial jaw repair failed. Through it all, this tiny fighter never gave up. As Mia's condition stabilized, we were finally able to learn the heartbreaking story behind how she came into our care. Before surrendering Mia, her family had already emptied their bank accounts, spending more than $2,000 in a single hour trying to save her life. When they were told they simply could not afford the lifesaving treatment she needed, they made the impossible decision to surrender her to the hospital, praying that a rescue would step in and give her the chance they desperately wanted for her. They never stopped loving her. When NYC Second Chance Rescue contacted them to share the incredible news that Mia had survived—and that, thanks to your generosity, there was a chance she could come home—they collapsed to the floor in tears. Today, we are beyond thrilled to share that Mia is exactly where she belongs: back in the arms of the family who loves her so deeply. While her recovery isn't over, and she'll continue to need follow-up appointments and ongoing medical care, she now gets to heal in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by the people who never stopped fighting for her. To every single person who donated, shared Mia's story, and kept her in your thoughts, thank you. Your compassion did more than save one little dog's life—you reunited a family that thought they had lost their beloved companion forever. As Mia continues her recovery, her veterinary bills remain significant. If you're able to make a donation, your gift will help cover her ongoing follow-up care and allow NYC Second Chance Rescue to say "yes" to the next critically injured animal who has nowhere else to turn 7/15/26 Update After everything she has endured, Mia continues to make steady progress in her recovery. This brave little Yorkie has overcome unimaginable obstacles—from surviving a devastating dog attack and multiple emergency surgeries to battling a serious infection and weeks of intensive hospitalization. While her journey has been long, she continues to show us just how resilient she is. Mia is now recovering at home with the family who never stopped loving her. Being back in a familiar environment, surrounded by the people who fought so hard for her, has made all the difference. She continues to attend follow-up appointments with her veterinary team to closely monitor her healing, and while she still has a road ahead of her, she is growing stronger every day. Her recovery remains a gradual process. She is still receiving ongoing medical care, medications, and regular evaluations to ensure her jaw and injuries continue to heal properly. Every small milestone is a reminder of how far she has come since the day she arrived fighting for her life. We are so grateful to everyone who has donated, shared Mia's story, and kept her in your thoughts. Your generosity made it possible for her to receive lifesaving emergency care, specialty surgery, hospitalization, and the continued treatment she needs today. If you're able to support Mia's ongoing medical care, your donation will help cover her follow-up visits and remaining veterinary expenses while also allowing NYC Second Chance Rescue to continue saying "yes" to other critically injured animals in desperate need. Thank you for being part of Mia's remarkable journey. We look forward to sharing more happy updates as this courageous little survivor continues to heal. 7/28/26 Update We are thrilled to share that Mia has officially been discharged from the hospital after weeks of intensive care, multiple surgeries, and around-the-clock treatment. Her journey has been incredibly difficult. After suffering devastating injuries from an attack by a larger dog, Mia underwent emergency surgery, battled a serious infection, and required additional surgery when her initial jaw repair failed. As she stabilized, we learned the full story behind her surrender. Her family had already emptied their bank accounts, spending over $2,000 in a single hour trying to save her. When they could no longer afford her lifesaving treatment, they made the heartbreaking decision to surrender her to the hospital in hopes that a rescue could step in. They never stopped loving her. When we reached out to inform them that, thanks to Waggle's generosity, Mia survived and could return home, they were overcome with emotion. Today, Mia is back where she belongs, with the family who loves her so deeply. While her recovery is not over, she still faces multiple follow-up appointments and continued medical care, she now gets to heal surrounded by her family. Thank you and everyone at Waggle who donated, shared her story, and stood by Mia. You didn’t just save her life; you gave a family their beloved dog back.

Donnie Is Fighting to Survive After a Horrific Injury

WHITESTONE, NY • NYC Second Chance Rescue

Donnie has already endured more suffering than any dog should ever have to face. When he arrived at the shelter, rescuers were shocked by the severity of his injuries. Donnie was found with a devastating wound to his genital area. His penis was severely swollen, deeply lacerated, and showing signs of tissue death. Veterinarians believe the injury may have been caused by something being tightly wrapped around the area, cutting off circulation and causing extensive damage. The pain Donnie must have experienced is unimaginable. While the exact circumstances remain unknown, what is certain is that Donnie is now in urgent need of lifesaving medical care. Veterinary specialists have determined that Donnie will likely require an emergency perineal urethrostomy (PU) surgery to survive. During this complex procedure, surgeons will remove the necrotic tissue and create a new pathway that will allow him to urinate normally. Without immediate treatment, Donnie faces the risk of severe infection, ongoing pain, and potentially life-threatening complications. Despite everything he has endured, Donnie is still fighting. NYC Second Chance Rescue has rushed him to an emergency hospital where he is receiving critical care and being evaluated for surgery. His medical team is doing everything possible to relieve his suffering and give him the chance at the healthy future he deserves. The cost of emergency hospitalization, surgery, medications, diagnostics, and post-operative care is significant, but turning away is not an option. Donnie deserves the opportunity to heal and to experience the kindness and compassion that every animal should know. Your donation will help provide the lifesaving treatment Donnie urgently needs. Every contribution, no matter the amount, brings him one step closer to recovery. Please donate today and help NYC Second Chance Rescue give Donnie the second chance he so desperately deserves.

Someone Nearly Starved Her to Death — Please Help Us Save Her

WHITESTONE, NY • NYC Second Chance Rescue

A police officer responding to a call at 3:30 in the morning never expected to find this. Dumped outside a FedEx processing facility in Brooklyn was a dog so emaciated, so weak, and so close to death that she could barely lift her head. Alone. Starving. Abandoned like trash. The officer, heartbroken by what she saw, immediately reached out to us begging for help. Without hesitation, we said yes and rushed her to a critical care hospital. What the veterinary team found was devastating. For hours, she lay motionless. Skin stretched tightly over fragile bones. Barely responsive. Fighting to survive. Her body condition score is just ONE — the lowest possible score a dog can receive. Her body is literally shutting down from prolonged starvation. Even stray dogs are usually able to scavenge enough to survive, which tells you just how severe and prolonged her suffering has been. Over the last 48 hours, she has required intensive lifesaving care just to stay alive. She has already needed plasma transfusions. Her blood sugar dropped so dangerously low that she remains on a constant dextrose infusion to keep her stable. She is under round-the-clock monitoring by critical care specialists, and her fight is far from over. Despite everything she has endured, she is still here. Still fighting. Still trying. But critical care comes at an enormous cost. Her hospitalization and emergency treatment have already exceeded $20,000, and the bills continue to grow as her medical team works tirelessly to save her life. At the same time, our rescue has been overwhelmed with emergency after emergency these past few days. We never want to turn away an animal suffering like this — but we cannot continue saying yes without help from compassionate people like you. Right now, this sweet dog needs a community to stand beside her. She needs people willing to fight for her life after someone else so cruelly failed her. Your donation will help cover her emergency hospitalization, lifesaving transfusions, medications, diagnostics, specialized care, and ongoing treatment as she battles to survive. Every dollar matters. Every share matters. Most of all, she deserves the chance to know that the world is not only cruelty and pain. Please help us save her life. 5/26/26 Update Haven is out of the hospital. ❤️ As you may remember, Haven was found abandoned outside of a FedEx facility in Brooklyn in absolutely devastating condition. She was starving to death, too weak to stand, and fighting for her life after enduring unimaginable neglect. Her body condition score was the lowest possible score a dog can receive, and for days she remained in critical condition requiring plasma transfusions, constant dextrose support, and round-the-clock emergency care. There were moments when we truly did not know if she would survive. But Haven kept fighting. And somewhere along the way, something beautiful happened — her attending veterinarian completely fell in love with her. After spending days helping save Haven’s life, her doctor offered to foster her once she was stable enough to leave the hospital. Recently, Haven officially walked out of the critical care hospital and into a home. Today, she even enjoyed a short walk outside, taking in fresh air, meeting neighbors, and showing everyone the unbelievably sweet soul hiding beneath all the suffering she endured. While she still has a long road of recovery ahead of her, we are overjoyed to finally say that Haven has made it out of the woods. For the first time in a very long time, this girl is safe. She is loved. She is healing. Her medical bills have already exceeded $20,000, and we are still working to cover the enormous cost of her lifesaving care. If you would like to continue supporting Haven’s recovery journey and help us say yes to the next animal in desperate need, please consider making a donation. Every contribution, no matter the size, truly makes a difference 6/7/26 Update When we first met Haven, we weren't sure she would survive. Today, we are thrilled to share a very different update. Haven has found her forever home. Not only does she have a loving family, she also has a new name: Bean. Her adopters recently shared this wonderful update: \_"She's doing wonderful in her new home. She's gaining strength every day, playing, running, loving her walks, and fitting right in with the pack, following them all over. She's a great addition to our family. She's the sweetest little thing ever. We are so grateful and happy to have her."\_ To see Haven—now Bean—living the life she always deserved is nothing short of incredible. The dog who once lay motionless in a hospital fighting for survival is now surrounded by love, companionship, and security. She is gaining strength, enjoying her new canine siblings, and finally getting the chance to simply be a dog. Stories like Haven's remind us why we do this work. They remind us that even in the darkest circumstances, hope is possible when people come together to help an animal in need. While Haven's story has the happy ending we all hoped for, her lifesaving medical care came at an enormous cost. Her emergency hospitalization, transfusions, diagnostics, medications, and critical care exceeded $20,000, and we are still working to cover those expenses. If Haven's journey has touched your heart, please consider making a donation. Your support helps cover the cost of Haven's care and allows NYC Second Chance Rescue to continue saying yes to the next animal who has nowhere else to turn. Every dollar helps us save lives, provide emergency treatment, and create more happy endings just like Haven's. 6/25/26 Update When Haven was found abandoned outside a Brooklyn FedEx facility, starving, skeletal, and barely clinging to life, we didn't know if she would survive the night. Her tiny body was shutting down from prolonged starvation. She required plasma transfusions, constant monitoring, lifesaving medications, and around-the-clock critical care. There were moments when the odds felt impossible. But thanks to the incredible support of this community, Haven was given the chance to fight. Not only did Haven survive, but she has been adopted into a loving forever home, where she now goes by the name Bean. The frightened, starving dog who once lay motionless in a hospital bed is now running, playing, enjoying walks, and following her new canine siblings everywhere she goes. Most importantly, she is finally surrounded by the love, safety, and security she always deserved. None of this would have been possible without the compassionate people who donated, shared her story, and believed that her life was worth saving. Because of your generosity, Haven received more than $20,000 worth of emergency medical care and was given the opportunity to heal, recover, and begin a brand-new chapter. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing beside Haven during the darkest days of her life. Your support transformed a story of neglect and abandonment into one of hope, healing, and love. While Haven's journey is complete, the need never ends. Every day, animals like Haven arrive needing urgent medical care and a chance at survival. Because of supporters like you, NYC Second Chance Rescue can continue saying yes when animals have nowhere else to turn. Thank you for helping write Haven's miracle. This campaign is now complete, but the impact of your kindness will stay with Haven—now Bean—for the rest of her life.

They Survived the Testing Facility. Now These 6 Beagles Need Your Help to Truly Begin Living.

WHITESTONE, NY • NYC Second Chance Rescue

This week, more than 60 beagles were pulled from the notorious Ridglan Farms testing facility and transported to safety in New York through a massive coordinated rescue effort between us and our trusted partners. They are finally out. After lives spent in confinement, used for testing and denied the simple comforts every dog deserves, these beagles are experiencing freedom for the very first time. But rescue was only the beginning. Now comes the critical medical care they have long been denied. Our first urgent plea for help is for Alexander, Joshua, Franklin, Pedro, Antonio, and Buckey— six sweet survivors who are now safely in foster care but each require immediate veterinary attention to assess the toll that years in a laboratory have taken on their bodies. Every one of these dogs needs: Vaccinations, Spay/neuter surgery, Full bloodwork, Comprehensive diagnostics to evaluate organ function and overall health. These are not routine intake exams we can afford to cut corners on. These are dogs who have spent their lives being used for testing. We do not know what their bodies have endured, what may have been compromised, or what hidden medical issues may still be waiting beneath the surface. So we are saying yes to every test. We are sparing no cost when it comes to giving them the thorough care they deserve. Transporting over 60 dogs, providing emergency intake, and beginning extensive medical work has already created enormous expenses. We cannot do this alone. Because of supporters like you, Alexander, Joshua, Franklin, Pedro, Antonio, and Buckey got their second chance. Now we need your help to make sure that second chance includes health, healing, and the life they were always meant to have. Please donate today to support their veterinary care and help these beagles begin the journey from surviving to truly living. 5/15/26 Update We are so happy to share a positive update on Alexander, Joshua, Franklin, Pedro, Antonio, and Buckey as they continue adjusting to life outside the research facility. All six of our beagle boys have now successfully undergone their neuter surgeries and are recovering well in foster care. Right now, they are mostly focused on resting, healing, and figuring out how to navigate life while wearing those funny cones! Every day, these resilient dogs continue to show us more of their sweet and loving personalities. Watching them experience simple comforts for the very first time — soft beds, toys, affection, playtime, fresh air, and the freedom to simply be dogs — has been incredibly emotional and rewarding for everyone involved in their care. While their pasts cannot be changed, their futures finally can. Your support is what made these surgeries, diagnostics, and ongoing medical care possible. Because of your generosity, these boys are not only safe — they are finally beginning to heal physically and emotionally after years of confinement and testing. Please consider making a donation to help us continue saying yes to survivors like Alexander, Joshua, Franklin, Pedro, Antonio, and Buckey. Every contribution helps provide lifesaving medical care, comfort, and the chance for these dogs to finally experience the life they always deserved. 7/22/26 Update One of the greatest privileges of rescue is witnessing the moment an animal stops merely surviving and finally begins living. When we launched this campaign, six beegles had only recently been rescued from the Ridglan Farms testing facility as part of the historic rescue of more than 60 beagles. They had spent their lives in laboratories, deprived of the love, comfort, and freedom every dog deserves. We knew their journey would only be possible with compassionate supporters like you standing beside them. Today, thanks to your generosity, we are thrilled to share that these incredible dogs—and many of their fellow survivors from the same rescue mission—are thriving in loving homes. Their adopters have shared the beautiful milestones that remind us why rescue matters. Theo (formerly Charlie) has settled into family life beautifully. He follows his canine brother, Loki, around the house, loves being tucked into bed every night, has discovered all kinds of new treats, gained more than three pounds, and has even developed a favorite pastime—watching TV! Sosa has truly found her voice. She has grown into a confident, happy girl who loves treats, enjoys playing with her family's beagle, has mastered going up and down stairs, and is embracing every day with joy. Bodhi (formerly Beau) is full of classic beagle energy. He adores his adopted brother, has gained healthy weight, completed additional medical treatment, and continues learning that the world is a safe place. While strangers can still make him a little nervous, his family is giving him all the patience and love he needs to continue healing. Faith has adjusted wonderfully to her new life and keeps her family smiling with her endless energy. She has become best friends with another Ridglan survivor, Toby (formerly Franklin), proving just how resilient these remarkable dogs truly are. Alexander has blossomed into a beloved companion. He now enjoys long walks, visits to the dog park, and making new canine friends every week. His confidence around people continues to grow, and his adopter couldn't be prouder of how far he has come. Huck recently celebrated his very first birthday—a date discovered through his laboratory tattoo. After weeks of determined practice, he proudly conquered the stairs and now races up and down them with excitement, celebrating every small victory that once seemed impossible. Reading these updates is an emotional reminder that healing isn't measured only by medical procedures or test results. It's measured by wagging tails, healthy weight gains, playful zoomies, cozy beds, first friendships, favorite treats, and the confidence to explore a world they were once denied. Because of your support, these dogs received the comprehensive veterinary care they desperately needed after years in a research facility. Their surgeries were completed, their medical needs addressed, and their futures forever changed. Most importantly, they found what every dog deserves: families who adore them. From all of us—and from every beagle whose life you helped transform—thank you. Your kindness gave these survivors more than medical care. You gave them safety, hope, healing, and the chance to simply be dogs. This campaign may be coming to a close, but the impact of your generosity will last a lifetime. Thank you for believing that every animal deserves a second chance.

From Backyard Breeder to ICU: Peanut’s Fight Isn’t Over

WHITESTONE, NY • NYC Second Chance Rescue

At just five weeks old, Peanut should have been learning how to play, explore, and feel safe. Instead, she came into our care fighting for every single breath. Peanut is a survivor of a backyard breeder, and by the time she reached us, her tiny body was already overwhelmed. Her lungs were filled with pneumonia, and she was struggling to breathe on her own—the heartbreaking video of her gasping for air is something we’ll never forget. Right now, she remains oxygen dependent and in critical condition. Despite everything, Peanut is fighting. We’ve seen small signs of improvement, but her condition is still incredibly fragile. During her initial exam, our veterinary team detected a heart murmur, raising concerns about a possible congenital condition called a persistent aortic arch. This condition can trap the esophagus, making it difficult to swallow properly and often leading to aspiration pneumonia—the very battle Peanut is facing right now. We have approved an echocardiogram to get answers. If this diagnosis is confirmed, there \_is\_ a surgical option—but Peanut must first be stable enough to survive it. Right now, her care is intensive and around-the-clock. Oxygen support, medications, monitoring—everything she needs to stay alive. The cost of her hospitalization is reaching approximately $1,000 per day, and it continues to climb as we fight to give her a chance. Peanut didn’t deserve the start she was given. But with your help, her story doesn’t have to end here. Please consider donating to support Peanut’s critical care. Every dollar helps us continue lifesaving treatment and brings her one step closer to breathing on her own, to healing, and to the life she should have had all along. We cannot do this without you. Thank you for standing with Peanut. 6/11/26 Update At just 5 weeks old, Peanut entered our care fighting for every breath. The tiny puppy, a victim of backyard breeding, arrived critically ill with severe pneumonia and was so oxygen dependent that she could barely function on her own. As doctors fought to stabilize her, another devastating concern emerged. Peanut was found to have a heart murmur, raising fears of a congenital condition called a persistent aortic arch, a defect that can trap the esophagus and lead to repeated aspiration pneumonia. Her future was uncertain, and every day felt like a battle. But Peanut had other plans. Day by day, she got stronger. Breath by breath, she kept fighting. And today, the little puppy who once needed round-the-clock medical care is living the life every dog deserves. Thanks to the support of our community, Peanut is thriving in her forever home. She has canine siblings, feline siblings, and even a niece who she absolutely adores. The puppy who once struggled just to breathe now spends her days playing, exploring, and making memories with the family who loves her beyond measure. From an oxygen chamber to a loving home, stories like Peanut's remind us why we never give up. Happy Tails, Peanut. We couldn't be happier for you.

Grace Anne

Tormented and Discarded — But Still So Full of Grace

WHITESTONE, NY • NYC Second Chance Rescue

When we named her Grace Anne, we meant it. Because despite everything that has been done to her, she has shown nothing but quiet grace. NYC Second Chance Rescue received devastating information about this poor senior doge re rescued. What we initially believed to be a severe infection may, in fact, be cancer. If it is an infection, we can fight it aggressively. If it is cancer, her already fragile body may not be strong enough to endure what comes next. While we wait for definitive answers, we are treating her as though it is an infection. We cannot afford to lose time. But that is not the only battle she is facing. Grace Anne is heartworm positive. She is profoundly underweight. She is extremely weak, with significant leg weakness that makes even standing difficult. Her jaw appears to be an old, untreated fracture — a painful reminder that her suffering was ignored for far too long. The veterinarian was heartbreakingly clear in their assessment: Grace Anne was tormented. Used. Abused. Likely bred over and over again. And when her body could no longer withstand pregnancy, she was discarded. Even cancer or infection would not cause this level of starvation. This was intentional. Cruel. Diabolical. We had the hardest conversation an organization can have — about prognosis, about suffering, about whether her body is strong enough to fight. And here is where we stand: We are trying. Because she deserves to be loved. She deserves to know that her life mattered. She deserves to feel safety instead of pain. Grace Anne remains in a 24-hour critical care hospital, receiving around-the-clock monitoring, diagnostics, medications, nutritional support, and stabilization. Every hour of hospitalization, every test, every treatment adds to her mounting medical costs — but we will not walk away from her. Not now. Not after everything she has survived. We are asking you to stand with Grace Anne during this fragile and uncertain time. Your donation will go directly toward critical care hospitalization. advanced diagnostics to determine infection vs. cancer, heartworm treatment, medications and supportive treatment, nutritional rehabilitation, and pain management and monitoring. We could lose her at any time. The doctor has been honest about that. But as long as she is fighting, so are we. Please donate if you can. Please share her story. Please help us show Grace Anne that the world can be kind. She has carried pain for so long. Now let her carry hope. 3/24/26 Update When we first shared Grace Anne’s story, we spoke about her quiet grace in the face of unimaginable suffering. Today, we are able to share something truly incredible — Grace Anne has gained 17 pounds. That number is more than just weight. It is proof of what happens when a dog who has been starved, neglected, and discarded is finally given proper nutrition, medical care, and love. Her body is beginning to heal, and it’s telling the truth now — Grace Anne always had the ability to grow stronger. What she never had before was the chance. Every pound she gains is a powerful reminder of how much she was deprived before rescue. And every day, she continues to fight forward with the same quiet determination that inspired us from the beginning. Grace Anne is still on her journey. She continues to need careful monitoring, ongoing medical support, and continued nutritional rehabilitation. But the strength she is showing is nothing short of remarkable. Watching her body respond to care and compassion has been deeply moving for everyone involved in her recovery. We are so grateful to everyone who has helped give Grace Anne the care, nourishment, and kindness she was denied for far too long. Your support is quite literally helping rebuild her — pound by pound, day by day. 🙏 We still need your help. Grace Anne’s recovery is ongoing, and her medical care, specialized nutrition, and continued monitoring come with significant costs. If you’re able, please consider making a donation to support her continued healing. Every contribution — no matter the size — helps ensure she keeps moving forward. 📣 Sharing her story also makes a meaningful difference and helps us reach more people who can be part of her journey. 4/4/26 Update Grace Anne is doing incredibly well. She’s gaining weight, her spirits are bright, and she’s finally learning what it feels like to be safe and loved. Watching her experience comfort and kindness—perhaps for the first time—is truly moving. She also gets along wonderfully with other dogs and clearly enjoys their company. Our medical team is continuing to investigate one remaining concern: an elevated white blood cell count. We are committed to identifying the cause and making sure she stays on a strong path to recovery. Soon, Grace Anne will be making her way to New York, where we’re hopeful she’ll find the loving forever home she deserves. Your support is what makes stories like Grace Anne’s possible. Donations help cover her ongoing diagnostics, medical care, and safe transport. If you’re able, please consider contributing to help us continue her recovery journey and give her the healthy future she deserves. 5/3/26 Update We have an update to share on Grace Anne… and it’s one we’ve been hoping for Grace Anne came to us from one of the most horrific abuse cases, dumped on the side of the road after being used to breed, unable to stand, her body completely depleted after a lifetime of being used and discarded. When she first arrived in our care, doctors told us her chances of survival were slim. But we knew that if we could give her even a moment of a life that was pain-free, safe, and filled with love, something she had never known, it would be worth everything. And Grace Anne she chose to fight. Today, Grace Anne is doing amazing. She’s gaining weight, she’s happy, and most importantly, she knows she is loved. Watching her experience comfort and kindness for the first time is something we will never take for granted. She also does well with other dogs and enjoys their company. We are still working through one remaining concern. Grace Anne continues to have an elevated white blood cell count, and our medical team is actively trying to determine the cause. We are committed to getting to the bottom of it and making sure she continues on this path forward. Grace Anne, we love you. Thank you for trusting us, and for letting us be part of your story.

Pearla

Pearla is a Maltese in WHITESTONE, NY, who needs $1,800 for Life-Saving Obstruction Treatment.

WHITESTONE, NY • NYC Second Chance Rescue

NYC Second Chance Rescue A few days ago, we received a heartbreaking email from a fur-mom desperate to save their dog, Pearla. Pearla, a young Maltese, suddenly started vomiting and was unable to keep any food down. She became weak, lethargic, and wasn't her playful self anymore. When her mom rushed her to the vet, she was given medication for an upset stomach. The medication seemed to help with nausea, but Pearla still wasn't behaving like herself. She wasn't eating, drinking, or playing, so something was clearly very wrong. Her owner rushed her to the hospital, where X-rays were taken, revealing a foreign object in her abdomen. The vets recommended further tests and exploratory surgery. The estimated costs for Pearla's treatment kept rising to thousands, an amount her owner simply did not have. Living in NYC on a very tight budget, they needed help. Determined to save Pearla's life, she contacted multiple animal welfare organizations. Unfortunately, her efforts were fruitless until she emailed us. Without hesitation, we agreed and referred Pearla to our vets, who promptly proceeded with the surgery after reviewing the x-rays. The doctors successfully removed the obstruction, which was a peach pit. Pearla is recovering well and will soon be reunited with her mom. Please send all good thoughts to Pearla as she continues recovering, and please consider making a donation to her medical care if you can. $1 or $50, every single ounce of help counts! Mission: NYC Second Chance Rescue was founded in 2009 based on one fundamental principle that has guided us ever since: They Matter! As simple as it sounds, we believe every animal deserves to be treated with compassion and dignity, regardless of breed, age, or medical needs. We are dedicated to ending the unnecessary suffering of animals and working towards a better future by reducing animal overpopulation in shelters, rescuing and rehabilitating critically injured and neglected animals, and connecting the community to services that help pets stay in their homes.
