On Mother's Day 2011, Gretchen P.'s life changed forever. It was the day her husband and kids surprised her with Sadie. "She was eight weeks old, and we all fell in love with her immediately," Gretchen tells Waggle. Then, tragically, in 2017, Gretchen's life changed again. She lost her husband, a firefighter, who made the ultimate sacrifice while on duty. And Sadie knows how much Gretchen needs her. "She still keeps a close eye on me. She grieved just as we did. She is my therapy pet, for sure. I don't know what I would do without her," Gretchen says. Now Gretchen and Sadie need your help. Sadie developed a cancerous lump on her right hip and needs it removed ASAP. After all the struggles Gretchen has been through, she needs financial help paying for Sadie's care. "Things have never been good or back to normal since my husband passed," Gretchen says. "I moved my dad in to take care of him. About one year ago, I had to leave my job to take care of him full-time. Mom passed in April 2021, and my dad in January 2022. I'm just recently back to work." Amaryllis

Amaryllis is a 9-year-old Labrador Retriever mix in McKinney, TX, who needs $1,500 for immediate hospitalization.

Amaryllis, a sweet senior gal, was dropped off at the Legacy Humane Society. Her former owner said her grandchildren "dumped" the dogs on her, and she could no longer care for Amaryllis because of her medical conditions. The humane society's veterinary team discovered Amaryllis had severe heartworm disease. They started treatment immediately, but Amaryllis suddenly went into heart failure. She's now being treated for her heart condition and doing very well in a foster home. Sadly, it appears Amaryllis never had her own bed until she went to her foster's house. "For a few days, she didn't know what a dog bed was and would only sleep on the hard floor next to it. But, she finally figured it out, and now she loves her bed," Molly B., with the humane society, tells Waggle. Now the nonprofit group is trying to raise money for Amaryllis' medical care, and they need your help! "We are doing everything we can to make sure her life isn't cut short, and we would greatly appreciate all the support," Molly says. "Any amount will go a long way in helping us give her the life she's worthy of."

Mr. Magoo came to RBARI after a lifetime of neglect. At 12 years old, his eyes were matted and crusted shut, leaving him blind; his mouth was filled with decaying teeth, he was unneutered, and he had clearly gone far too long without medical care and the simplest comfort. Yet, this tiny senior Yorkie’s gentle spirit still shines bright despite daily suffering. As soon as Mr. Magoo hears your voice, he wags his tail and tries to find you. 💔Years of neglect left Mr. Magoo’s eyes sealed shut and painfully inflamed. After carefully soaking and shaving away the hardened buildup, he was able to open his eyes again. Sadly, RBARI discovered irreversible scarring from long-untreated dry eye and infections. To end his pain, the difficult decision was made to remove his eyes. 💛 Please help give Mr. Magoo the comfort, safety, and love he’s waited a lifetime for. My father admitted himself into rehab and his 5 year old pitbull was an emotional wreck without him so a friend of mine agreed to keep her she kept her for 2 months before she got pregnant. She hen she was about to have her liter I got her back and she had 6 pups and Ray was the runt and the one that was blind reason behind his name (Ray Charles) but then he developed puppy strangle. He’s misrible Ray is only 11 weeks old he developed this illness around 2 weeks ago but ever since he was born he’s stole my heart he’s blind out of one eye and the absolute calmest dog iv ever been in contact with. I have 1 other dog that’s mine she’s a 8 year old pit bull but she’s never had puppies Ray will lay in her leg crease when he sleeps Ray is the runt so he’s always been small but when he eats he will pick himself up off this back paws and I think it’s the most adorable thing ever. He’s my whole heart Ray has puppy strangle a condition they don’t yet know the cause of. I took him to the urgent vet in and he was seen by dr goodknight. He was givin antibiotics but since then he has scratched himself so raw on his Snout now he’s going to have to go back soon he’s so pitiful I have just received custody of my 10 year old brother due to my mom and dad on drugs it costed my a lot in the court system to fight to keep him out of department of social services

She was a surprise for her 16-year-old son's birthday, and ever since, tiny Athena has developed a big personality in a home filled with people and other animals. "When the cats start to scratch on something, she will go and bark at them," Melissa tells Waggle. "She loves to sing. Her favorite song is "Rise Up" by Mother and Son. She loves to give hugs and kisses. My heart melts when I come home to see how happy she is to see me." But now, the family is facing a gut-wrenching situation. "We took her to the vet for X-rays, and she has a mineralized disc sitting on her spine," Melissa says. Athena needs urgent surgery to fix it, but the operation is upward of $3500 -- it's too steep a price for Melissa to pay. "I am working, but with this being so much and unexpected, I am just not financially able," Melissa says. "We have cried with her. It breaks my heart to see her like this and not be able to do anything but give her pain meds." Please help Athena!

Honey selected me through the “cat distribution system” and showed up on my front porch one May evening. She purred against my leg and pawed my door to let her in. I then took her in to get vaccinated and make sure she was no one’s cat, and was able to adopt her. I loved her so much that I adopted her best friend, who is also a cat, Pepper. Honey has corneal rupture, herpesvirus in the eyes, descemetocele, and conjunctivitis in both eyes. Her right eye ruptured, causing her to go blind, whereas her other eye has an ulcer that I would love to graft and save. Honey is the sweetest cat you’d ever meet. She is constantly the center of attention when guests come over. She is the most cuddly girl and is so grateful to have been saved off the streets. I am a low income teacher through the Archdiocese of St Louis who makes 1,000 every two weeks. I have student loans from my bachelors and masters. I am also saving for my wedding coming up in June. I don’t want to give up on Honey and am out of options financially.

After my mom passed away I was looking for a reason to live.. so I decided to adopt a cat. End my local a.D.o.pt shelter place had kitten. And I went an got him. He was quite an very much a scary cat. He was the only one not hiss at me. I always wanted a black cat. I named him "Thachary Binx" after the Hocus pocus character. Long story short, while playing with my other cat. I guess they were playing too rough for one day. And then later on in that same day he started limping a lot. I wasn't really quite sure what it was because I assumed it was a soft tissue issue. I waited a few days he seemed a lot better. And on a win just to make sure I took him to a vet and she told me that his hip was broken. He's special because he's been through everything with me in the last few years. He's my emotional support animal. Literally. I got them certified and referred by my therapist and everything. He's my world he is my baby. He's been there after my mom died. He's been there after my breakup. He's been there after my sister died. And so much more. He deserves the best. I love him. The only reason why I'm here is because I can't afford it. The biggest issue is that there isn't a payment plan option for any of this. Everyone seems to want all the money up front and I can't do insurance cuz it's pre-existing condition now.

Orion is a 11 year old Siberian Husky in New Orleans, LA, who needs $4,000 for Dental Surgery & Extraction.

Orion has been my soulmate for the last 8 years, and every moment has been a blessing. He’s the funniest, smartest guy around, and he’s got the biggest heart. He enjoys “punching” people when he wants food or a treat (he pushes into their legs with his nose), howling and talking at dogs while on his walks, and chewing his Whimzees at night. Orion was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease, which has come with its complications—with his immune system compromised, he is undergoing pneumonia treatment, and just today, he tripped and knocked his canine tooth out. The pulp is exposed, and he will require dental surgery to ensure that he doesn’t develop a severe infection. Orion is the funniest dog I’ve ever met. He has the biggest personality. He loves watching birds and squirrels. He’s obsessed with the neigbourhood chicken that walks around every morning. He likes coming with me to coffee shops, and his morning walks are the best part of his day. He’s the kindest soul. I’m currently working at a restaurant, and we’ve hit slow season. Between Ori’s other health issues and repairs I needed on my car, I have spent every last penny, and I am in dire need of help to make sure that I can give Ori the care he needs.

Just before pandemic I lost my first golden, she died in my arms. I was working a trip as a Flight Attendant and was crying and my work buddy recommended I get anther dog. I had a dog on Pet finder in mind. Lo and behold the Golden was listed by another crew member she knew who ran Road Trip 4 Paws in Texas. By the time we landed in LGA, she was on the phone setting everything up to adopt Jake. Our family is seeking help for Jakes surgery. Last Friday he was lethargic and drinking tons of water. On Monday we ran to Pacific Santa Cruz Veterinary Hospital to seek help. After an ultrasound and labs we discovered Jake had a bleeding tumor in his spleen. The next day we went back for another ultrasound and X-rays, nothing indicated spread of tumor. Doctors recommended Spleen removal. Jake came to me as timid pup, afraid of everyone but me. He now feels safe in our household of five with two cats. He greats everyone with a toy in his mouth. He wants all the belly rubs. He has brighten all our days, and he gives emotional support for free. He has comforted me through divorce, deaths of parents and adjusting to retirement. Because of Pandemic, I retired and divorced very quickly. I moved home to expensive California to be with Daughters. Not knowing how hard living on a fixed income would be. I am finding people won’t hire me because of age. We all work together to make ends meet.
