Charlie

Charlie is an eight-year-old Labrador mix in Dallas, TX, who needs $1,800 for urgent care.

Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

Charlie ended up in a shelter that euthanizes dogs for space reasons during the holiday season because his humans were moving and they surrendered him to the animal control facility. Soon after he arrived, the shelter staff noticed Charlie was limping. Then they realized his nails were hideously long and overgrown. They were so long that he could not walk well. You can see it in the video. Lucky Lab heard about Charlie, and the shelter said he had to be out of the facility by a certain date, or they'd have to kill him. Our rescue had a wonderful foster mom offer to foster him and that saved his life. After Charlie went to his foster home, his foster mom noticed he had sores on his paws and feet, likely from living with his nails being neglected for so long. He was also anemic, had a low thyroid, and needed medication--he still has to be neutered and treated for heartworm. This poor senior boy who ended up in an animal control facility deserves so much more! After we treat him for his many medical issues we plan on finding him the best, most loving home with humans who will never leave him behind or neglect him again.

Toby

Puppy Toby is an 8-month-old yellow Labrador pup in Austin, TX who needs $2,000 for hip surgery.

Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption heard about a puppy that couldn't walk in a Texas animal shelter and was at risk of being euthanized. We could not let that happen! We didn't have a foster home for Toby but knew we had to save him, so we had a volunteer pick him up and get him to an animal hospital. X-rays showed he had a broken pelvis and one of his hips was a mess. We've had two specialists review Toby's case. Both say he needs hip surgery to remove the bone fragments from his hip joint. The surgery is called and FHO. We had a rough year with many medical dogs in need and donations are low right now. Probably due to the economy and inflation. We are struggling right now and need to raise the money first for Toby to have his surgery. Lucky Lab is a nonprofit rescue, and no one in the organization is paid, we're all volunteers. We put our hearts and souls into rescuing these dogs and want Toby to have the best new year ahead.

Bentley

Bentley is a 11-year-old Labrador (and Muppet) in Lewisville, IN, who needs $2,000 for TPLO Ligament Repair Surgery.

Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

Poor Bentley! Lucky Lab saved him from a shelter after he ended up there, and his owners apparently told the shelter after having him for 10 years, they no longer wanted him. He was a poor, discarded, limping senior dog covered in bumps and lumps thrown out during his golden years. His story broke our hearts. When we saw pictures of his sweet face, we could not resist helping him. Though we are predominately a Lab rescue we figured there must be some Lab in there somewhere. Lab and Muppet is what we decided! We made him an official Lucky Lab. An incredible foster offered to take him in, and then we discovered Bentley was limping. We brought him to the veterinarian, who discovered he had a torn ACL, and surgery was the only option for repairing it. Knowing Bentley's age, we wanted to make sure he was up for the surgery. We had every single one of his lumps and bumps aspirated and luckily they all came back benign. We treated him for a skin infection and had his bloodwork done several times and his veterinarian and surgeon said Bentley was up for the surgery and a good candidate! Now Lucky Lab is raising the money for Bentley's surgery so he no longer has to limp along while he walks in pain. Just knowing his story and seeing him limp makes us wonder how long he was suffering and no one helped him! Please help us help Bentley.

When the volunteers hear about dogs with the saddest stories and terrible injuries, they can't resist jumping into action. That's what happened when they heard about Puppy Delilha. "We got a call from an animal control agency that an eight-week-old puppy had been attacked by another dog," Katherine Martin, with the rescue group, tells Waggle. The sweet puppy's jaw was broken, and she could not eat. (A Lab that can't eat = big trouble!) "The agency asked if our rescue could help her because she needed surgery," Kathy says. "We paused momentarily and thought, 'Oh my goodness, how are we going to pay for this?' We decided to leap and hoped the net would appear." Someone said, "Be sure to launch a Waggle campaign," and tell them about Puppy Delilah. They've helped us so many times before. So here we are, Waggle, Waggle friends, and dog lovers. We need your help to pay for Delilah's surgery and follow-up medical care -- like X-rays, veterinarian appointments, special food, and care. "Once she is healed up, and out of pain, our hope is she will be up for adoption and be a treasure for her future family," Kathy says. "Thank you so much for your help and support. Buddy Hank

Buddy Hank is a 2-year-old Labrador in Lewisville, IN, who needs $2,000 for eye surgery.

Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

Buddy Hank is young, handsome, and sadly, going blind. He is a purebred Lab born with a genetic defect that causes blindness. His prior owners wanted to euthanize him because of it. "A woman who learned about Buddy Hank's grave predicament contacted Lucky Lab Rescue, begging us to help and save him," the group tells Waggle. "We certainly could not let him be killed because he was going blind!" The rescue got Buddy Hank into one of the top specialists in Texas for his condition. He's been on prescription eye drops to try to help, but sadly the pressure is so great inside one of his eyes that it's painful. His specialist recommends removing that eye and leaving the other one, which is responding to the drops. "We are trying to raise the money for Buddy Hank's surgery when donations are down, and dogs piling up in shelters are up," the rescue says. Once Buddy Hank heals from his eye surgery, he will be put up for adoption and find a family that loves him no matter what! "Lucky Lab does not turn away dogs with injuries or illnesses," the nonprofit group says. "Please give to help us continue our mission to save these underdogs. We can't do it without you."

This loving black Lab sat emaciated, suffering from skin infections, tick infestations, and two tickborne illnesses on death row in a South Texas shelter. He was miserable and needed immediate help. The clock was ticking on his life. And when Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption saved Loki, he instantly showed his rescuers how grateful he was. "He could not stop hugging the volunteer who picked him up and rushed him to the animal hospital," the rescue tells Waggle. Then Loki could not stop hugging everyone he met! He embraced the employees at the vet's office and his foster mom-- he shows them all how thankful he is. Loki received immediate treatment for his tick infestation and illnesses. He was hospitalized for a week to stabilize his health and weight after being neglected for so long. Lucky Lab is in crisis mode and needs your help paying for Loki's medical bills. The facility was full, and it would have to start euthanizing dogs for space reasons. "They sent us a picture of this beautiful, young Labrador-Golden Retriever mix. Our hearts melted. How could they kill such an amazing dog? It's heartbreaking what happens in these shelters. He was a must-save," the rescue tells Waggle. Once Tommy went to his foster home, his foster mom made a horrifying discovery: Tommy's abdomen was covered in puncture wounds. His skin was swollen, gaping, oozing, and infected. The rescue contacted the shelter. It said Tommy had been attacked by another dog two weeks before! He received no medical attention or care, so his wounds festered and worsened. Tommy's foster mom had to race him to the animal hospital for urgent care. It's sad to think he sat in the shelter in pain and was about to be led to his death! All due to no fault of his own. Tommy will also need donations to help him get all his vaccines, microchip, neutered, and medical care. The last few months have been a whirlwind of crazy for Lucky Lab and many rescues. Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

Poor Zeus! Lucky Lab saved this beautiful chocolate Labrador from a shelter where he was at risk of being killed for space reasons. Soon after Zeus arrived at his foster home, his foster mom could tell something was not quite right. His eyes, mouth, and lips were scarlet red and irritated. His ears had raging infections. The rescue brought him to their veterinarian, who referred Zeus to a dermatologist and eye doctor at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists. After many (expensive! Gulp!) tests, it turns out that Zeus has an autoimmune disorder that is allowing a bacteria called Pseudomonas to attack and overrun his body. Now Zeus' team of specialists and the rescue are trying to determine the cause of the autoimmune affliction, fight the bacteria and treat his symptoms. "Zeus is seven years old, and he should be living in his forever home with a new family, but until he's feeling better, he needs to stay in foster care," Lucky Lab tells Waggle. "You can see what a great gem of a dog is behind those sad eyes. Our rescue doesn't shy away from helping dogs with medical needs." His medical bills are now running upward of $4000. It's a tab the nonprofit rescue is struggling to pay. "When we take in a dog, we treat them like one of our own. Please help us raise the money to get Zeus the tests and care he needs to fix him up. We want Zeus to have an amazing life ahead of him. We want his luck to change! After all, he is with Lucky Lab Rescue!"

Cocoa

Cocoa is a two-month-old chocolate Lab puppy in Austin, TX who needs $900 for treatment of burned paws.

Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

When Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption volunteers first saw Cocoa's sweet face and burnt paws on a shelter's social media post, they sprang into action. There was no way they could leave that adorable puppy in the animal control facility. "The picture of the puppy's red feet brought tears to our eyes," the rescue tells Waggle. "An animal control officer spotted her and picked her up, thank goodness! She was all by herself." No one knows how Cocoa's paw pads became so burnt. Her veterinarian at New Hope Animal Hospital isn't sure if it was a chemical burn or if the poor pup had been running on hot asphalt as a stray. Let's remember; we're talking "Texas hot" asphalt. Temperatures in The Lone Star State have been hovering around 90 to 100 degrees this summer, which means the asphalt could heat up to 160 degrees. "We believe it's likely the burns came from walking on the hot road," the rescue says. Cocoa is on several medications and antibiotics to help her little feet heal. Her prognosis is excellent. Cocoa's foster mom, Margaret S., says the puppy now walks on her tip toes due to the pain. We hope she realizes she can walk on her full paws again once she heals. Don't tiptoe around it. Let's help Cocoa!

Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

"Ouch!" That's what you'll say when you see the X-ray of Sammy's broken leg. Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption saved Sammy in the nick of time! "Sammy was in a kill shelter housed in a kennel with another dog, likely her sister. Her sister got saved, but Sammy got left behind, probably because she had a broken leg. The facility got full, and the staff walked the poor hobbling dog back to the euthanasia room. When Lucky Lab heard, they contacted the shelter immediately, got Sammy a stay of execution, and then sprung her," the rescue tells Waggle. The rescue brought her to Sunset Canyon Veterinary Clinic, where they learned one of the bones in Sammy's leg completely snapped in two. An orthopedic surgeon reviewed her case and is hopeful she can avoid surgery -- but her leg will need to be in a splint for about two months, which needs to be changed weekly. Then she will need a couple of sets of follow-up X-rays to see if the bone is mending itself back together properly. Despite is all, Sammy is the sweetest girl! She loves her humans and their family. She is now in a foster home, and she is so happy. Please help Sammy catch a good break this time! "Lucky Lab does not turn away dogs that need medical care," the rescue says. Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

Though Maverick is a dog, it's starting to seem like he may have nine lives! He's had a couple of brushes with death, and now he needs your help. First, an animal control officer in rural Texas witnessed Maverick coming into the shelter. This facility did not have many resources, and the officer knew if she didn't help Maverick, he might not make it out alive. She sent an email to Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption pleading for their assistance saving him. She wrote this heartfelt email to the nonprofit group: "I had a Lab surrendered to me, and there has been no interest in him. I am a kill shelter, so I was reaching out to see if you had space for him in your rescue. He is a VERY sweet dog. He gets along with my other dogs in the shelter very well, and I let him do his own thing most of the time." Lucky Lab was fortunate enough to have a foster that could take Maverick. And Maverick has been just as advertised. He's an incredible and sweet dog. He was heartworm positive and went through treatment like a champ. But just as Lucky Lab thought they could post Maverick for adoption, he started limping. The veterinarian thought he had an ACL tear, but X-rays revealed one of his hips was out of the socket, and he was also riddled with pellets! He had been shot at some point in his young life. You can see the shiny, metal BBs on the radiographs. Now Maverick needs surgery at Lake Forest Animal Hospital to repair his hip so he can walk without pain. The rescue has taken on many dogs with medical conditions and can't afford Maverick's surgery. They are racing to raise the $2000 he needs for this life-changing operation. Until Maverick has the surgery, his future is on hold! He can't be put up for adoption and find his forever family until he's all fixed up. Please help Lucky Lab raise the money to help Maverick, and let's give him a happy ending.

Beatrice is a four-year-old Labrador mix in Austin, TX, who needs $1,900 for emergency C-section surgery.

Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption got a panicked call that a pregnant Lab mix was at a Texas shelter that was about to pop! Bea was huge. The shelter was packed, and they would kill her because they did not want to deal with puppies being born in the facility. "We had to literally race to her rescue to get her out of there. It was crazy," the rescue tells Waggle. They sprung Bea, who went to one of the rescue's best puppy fosters. Then everyone got a huge surprise! X-rays showed Beatrice was likely to have about 15 puppies. This is one of the biggest litters in Lucky Lab history. The average litter (according to the internet) is about 5-6 puppies. The poor foster was like, "I'm blocking Lucky Lab's number in the future!" Due to the large size of the litter, they brought her to Sunset Canyon Veterinary Clinic when Bea went into labor. Bea gave birth to two puppies, and then her labor became slow and she was tired. She was struggling, and there were a lot of puppies yet to be born. The medical team performed an emergency C-section and voila there were 15 puppies squealing and hungry. (Bea was also spayed at the time.) Poor Bea woke up from surgery with a family of 15 to feed. She was like, "What the heck just happened?" Lucky Lab is raising money to pay for Bea's surgery and care. She will also need heartworm treatment. She is high heartworm positive which is dangerous. Miss DJ is a Labrador puppy in Austin, TX, who needs $2,000 to fix her broken heart.

Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

Puppy Miss DJ needs major surgery to fix her broken heart. This adorable chocolate puppy is scheduled to have her operation the day after Valentine's Day, and Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption is scrambling for donations to pay for her care. DJ has a life-threatening condition called "persistent right aortic arch." The aorta in her heart is cutting off part of her esophagus, preventing food from getting to her stomach. Without surgery, she will die from starvation. That would be just devastating and heartbreaking. Research shows that a large majority of puppies with this condition are helped with surgery and live a normal life. Right now, her foster mom (who is a saint) feeds her a special gruel formula and then keeps her upright in a baby sling for about a half-hour to let gravity help take the food to the puppy's stomach. She is having this tricky surgery and a CT scan at Austin Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital (AVES) in Austin. A board-certified surgeon will perform the operation. The rescue has to raise thousands of dollars to pay the bill. "We are doing all we can to raise the money as quickly as possible so we can give the animal hospital the payment. We hope and pray Lab lovers out there will help come to her rescue," the Lucky Lab tells Waggle. The rescue is a nonprofit organization that helps dogs with severe medical conditions. Mason was the victim of a hit and run! This nine-month-old pup was struck by a car and left in a ditch. Finally, someone called animal control. Officers brought him to a shelter in Houston, where he languished for days. One of his hips was fractured, and his other hip was dislocated. He also had a shattered knee. When Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption heard about Mason, one of their volunteers raced to the shelter, picked him up, and drove him to Austin. The rescue arranged for Mason to have emergency orthopedic surgery with one of the top surgeons in The Lone Star State, Dr. Bevan, at Central Texas Veterinary Specialty Emergency Hospital. Dr. Bevan says Mason was worth saving. The pup is young and spry. His bones are still green, and he will bounce back. He performed surgery on one of Mason's hips and reconstructed his knee on the same leg. After that side of Mason's body heals, he will likely need surgery on his other hip and be neutered at the same time. "At one point, I genuinely thought Mason was not going to have a good quality of life, and we were going to have to let him go," Amy T., with the rescue, tells Waggle. "It's a miracle Dr. Bevan was able to fix him up enough to give him a shot at a great life." Amazing donors helped the rescue get Mason's initial surgery done, but his recovery is just beginning. He will start water therapy three times a week for many weeks, if not months to build his strength and conditioning back up to where it should be for a nine-month-old puppy. Then his medical team will assess how to fix his other hip. Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption is an all-volunteer rescue, no one who helps run the rescue gets paid. All the donations go to the dogs. The group takes on tough medical cases, like Mason. "Mason's expenses will continue long into the future, but we know he is worth it," Amy says. "And thanks to Waggle, we are able to help raise the funds needed to pay his amazing vets."

Ash

Ash is a seven-year-old Labrador in Austin, TX who needs $2,000 for emergency leg surgery.

Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

It all started when Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption got a frantic message: The staff at one of the more notorious Texas animal shelters was walking a black Labrador wearing a cast on his leg down the hallway to the euthanasia room. As the poor dog was hobbling toward the kill room, he had no idea he was about to be spared. With the clock ticking on his life, Lucky Lab said, "We'll save him!" "The shelters in Texas are filling back up with dogs and euthanizing them for space reasons or if they're injured," Amy T., from the rescue, tells Waggle. "These kinds of emergencies are starting to happen daily. The pandemic puppy phase where the shelters were empty is over." A volunteer drove Ash to a local animal hospital, so he wasn't killed. X-rays of his leg, wrapped in a plaster cast at the shelter, revealed a severe break in one of his bones. The veterinarian told the rescue he needed surgery immediately. The only hope to save his leg was to have a plate put in to mend the bone back together. So the next phase of Ash's rescue mission started: Find a surgeon who could operate, stat! Lucky Lab contacted Dr. David Allman, a board-certified canine orthopedic surgeon, on a wing and a prayer begging for help. Then a miracle happened! Dr. Allman fit Ash in for surgery the next day. Volunteers then whisked Ash to Austin Vet Hospital for the operation, and hours later, Ash emerged from the procedure, which was a success. "He's now in a wonderful foster home recovering," Amy says. "We are foster-based and depend on people opening their homes to these dogs to save them. We pay for all the veterinary care. That's why we are always begging for donations!" As the rescue worried about how they were going to pay for Ash's surgery on such a tight timeline, one of the rescue members said, "Who you gonna call? Waggle!" (Think the Ghostbusters song.) Ash and Lucky Lab could use your help! They are starting to get overwhelmed by the number of dogs in need.

Some shelters, especially in Texas, are euthanizing animals for space reasons, and that's what nearly happened to Margaret. "The poor pup, who is just a mere pup herself, was dumped at the animal control facility with her puppies. Someone likely owned Margaret and never got her spayed. Then when she had puppies, the litter was an unwanted surprise," Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption tells Waggle. The shelter Margaret ended up in has a horrible practice of separating the mother dogs from their puppies, and sometimes the puppies get rescued, and the mother dog doesn't. "If the shelter gets full, it sends the mother dog to the kill room to be euthanized! When we heard Margaret was released for euthanasia, we had minutes to get her pulled from there. We were frantic and had to intervene quickly," the rescue says. Kind volunteers got Margaret out and drove her to Callahan Road Animal Hospital so she would be safe. The medical team there discovered she was missing a lot of hair due to a skin infection, and she had atrocious ear infections that needed to be treated. When she's well enough, and ready Lucky Lab will make sure she is spayed so this litter of puppies will be her last. "We think once Margaret gets the love and medical care she needs; she will blossom into a diamond. We love seeing these diamonds in the rough turn into real gems," the rescue adds. Murphy is a four-month-old Labrador puppy in Austin, TX who needs $2,000 for critical medical care.

Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

Murphy is a fighter who desperately needs your help! All he wants is to be healthy so he can finally find his forever home! When this boy was just a few weeks old, he was abandoned and living on the street. He had enough sense to follow a woman home while she was out on a walk. She was determined to assist the pup. She contacted animal control, had him scanned for a microchip, and made dozens of posts, signs, and announcements saying she found a puppy. But no one reported him missing, and he didn't have a microchip. After doing all the due diligence Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption agreed to take Murphy into their rescue. Once Murphy got to his foster home, it was clear he was very ill. "He didn't have an appetite. He had terrible stomach upset and had very pale gums," Cori J., the rescue's medical director, tells Waggle. The rescue brought him to Parmer Lane Pet Hospital, where a veterinarian discovered he was severely anemic. "He was immediately put on antibiotics and treated for tickborne illnesses," Cori says. "But even after the antibiotics, he is still anemic. He's a bit of a medical mystery. We are running more advanced and expensive tests to figure out the cause. He is now being treated for Bartonella, which is another nasty bacteria transmitted by ticks." Then a dog bit Murphy's face. It was an innocent kind of "get away from me hyper puppy" snap, but Murphy's face got nicked. Then a massive infection set in. The swelling in Murphy's cheek is so enormous it looks like he is eating a jawbreaker! Despite all the time Murphy has spent in the animal hospital, taking medications, being examined and treated, he's remained a brave champ through it all. "Sweet Murphy is always a joy and favorite when he goes to the veterinarian's office," Cori adds. "He has remained in high spirits. We hope Murphy will heal up soon, and we are so appreciative of anyone who can donate for his care. He's a gem."

Rosiland is fighting for her life in a Houston, Texas emergency hospital. About ten days after Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption saved the yellow Lab mix from a shelter, she spiked a high fever, came down with a horrendous respiratory infection, and her skin turned scarlet red. The rescue raced her to BluePearl Pet Hospital, where the medical team ran several tests. Everyone was shocked at the results! Poor Rosiland had distemper, the dog flu, mycoplasma, and adenovirus. She was clobbered with so many illnesses she could barely move. Lucky Lab is ready to take on tough medical cases, but they can only do it with wonderful donors and supporters who donate to help the dogs they save. And Rosiland really needs assistance! "We are so thankful to have Waggle as a rescue partner. We feel like the organization is part of the team," the rescue says. "She is the sweetest girl. When we saved her, we were told she was adorable and beautiful, and she was true to her description. When she got so ill, we were just heartbroken. Everyone works so hard in the rescue to save dogs, and to have one get severely sick on death's door is so devastating. She is friendly and kind." Please help Rosiland battle for her life!

Zym

Zym is a three-year-old Labrador Mix in Austin, TX who needs $2,000 for emergency surgery.

Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

The phone call from the veterinarian's office was sad and urgent: A Labrador mix had eaten something he should not have (so typical for a Lab), and it caused an obstruction that needed to be surgically removed, or the dog could die. The dog's owner could not afford the surgery. They were also leaving on a long road trip due to a family emergency and could not give him the required care. The owner was facing economic euthanasia, putting the dog down because they could not afford his urgent surgery. The animal hospital contacted Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption in a hurry. With the clock ticking on Zym's life, the rescue had seconds to answer the question: "Can you take this dog in and pay for his surgery?" Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption doesn't turn away dogs that need medical care or expensive surgeries. "It's why we are always begging and pleading for money," the rescue tells Waggle. "We are so thankful we can rely on Waggle to help us." With surgery, the vet can likely retrieve the blockage; it's believed to be a plastic or rubber object blocking his digestive tract. Once it's removed, Zym is expected to be OK. But without surgery, Zym will not make it. The rescue said yes! And thought, "Oh my gosh, we sure hope we can raise the money for his care. We are a nonprofit rescue!" New Hope Animal Hospital told the group Zym was so adorable he was worth it! The situation everyone was in, Zym, his owners, the veterinarian's office, and the rescue, is heartbreaking. Will you please help Zym get the emergency surgery he needs?

Puppy Edith is a Black Labrador puppy in Houston, TX, who needs $1,400 for Hospitalization and Treatment of Parvo.

Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

Puppy Edith narrowly escaped being killed in a South Texas animal shelter. The facility was full and planned to begin euthanizing dogs for space reasons. A panicked shelter worker called Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption and begged for them to save Puppy Edith and her brother Puppy Archie. The rescue could not say no! Wonderful volunteers helped drive the puppies to their amazing foster mom in Houston. Shortly after they arrived, the pups had another brush with death. "Edith and Archie arrived from the shelter seemingly fine," Stephanie B., Lucky Lab's Houston manager, tells Waggle. "But within a few hours of getting them, Edith became lethargic and was not eating." Soon after, Archie got sick too, and the group raced the puppies to the veterinarian, where they tested positive for Parvo, a horrible virus that can be fatal to dogs who are not fully vaccinated. The pups were so ill they needed round-the-clock care, fluids, and antibiotics at BluePearl Pet Hospital. "We were crushed to find out they were Parvo positive, but you could tell Edith is a fighter," Stephanie says. "Now the puppies are fighting for their lives." Lucky Lab Rescue always makes sure the dogs they save get the best medical care, and they rely on donations to help pay their veterinary bills. Having two pups admitted to the emergency room is really taking a bite out of their bottom line. They would be so grateful for any donations!

Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption got a frantic call from a woman who helps run an animal control facility in Southern Texas. "The shelter is full, and two puppies are at risk of being euthanized for space!" Soon after, the rescue's volunteers sprang into action and raced to save Puppy Archie, a yellow Lab, and his sister Edith, a black Lab. A fabulous foster offered to take the pups in, and a volunteer network of drivers assembled to get them from South Texas to their foster home in Houston. The rescue thought the worst was over, but soon after Archie and Edith arrived at their foster home, their lives were on the line again. "Within 36 hours, Archie had gone downhill fast," Stephanie B., the rescue group's Houston manager, tells Waggle. "He was lethargic, not eating and running a high fever. He was rushed to the veterinarian where we found out he was positive for the Parvovirus, had giardia, and possible Distemper." Edith was also ill with the virus. Then another rescue mission ensued: Both puppies had to be hustled over to BluePearl animal hospital for 24-hour emergency care, including antibiotics, fluids, and medications to help settle their stomachs. Hospilitizing two puppies will help save their lives -- but Lucky Lab is desperately trying to raise the money to pay for their medical care. The rescue has been inundated lately with wonderful dogs who end up in shelters through no fault of their own. People still think that the "pandemic puppy" rush to adopt craze is still happening, but that is long over. Shelters are filling up with animals again, and when the shelters are full, some are euthanizing to make space in the kennels. Rescues need help. Please help poor Archie fight Parvo! With your help, Lucky Lab is confident a wonderful forever home is in his future when he recovers!

Jake is a ten-year-old Labrador in Forth Worth, TX, who needs $2,000 for hospitalization for respiratory infections and tumor removal.

Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

Just when Jake should have been enjoying his golden years living in a loving home, his life took some heart-wrenching turns. First, his owner died, and Jake got dumped at a municipal shelter that is notorious for having outbreaks of hideous respiratory diseases. Then as Jake sat in a kennel in the shelter hoping someone would adopt him, he caught not one, not two, but THREE awful illnesses! Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption got an urgent message about Jake. He was so ill the shelter's workers weren't sure he was going to make it. Jake had a fever, a horrendous cough, and he stopped eating and drinking -- he was taking a turn for the worse. Lucky Lab bolted to his rescue. A wonderful volunteer picked up Jake from the shelter and brought him to VCA Westcreek Animal Hospital. He was so ill that discharge was streaming out of his nose. Jake's veterinarian ran a respiratory panel which revealed he had a trifecta of highly contagious ailments: canine herpes, mycoplasma, and kennel cough. "I was super surprised at those test results having no idea that all of those things could be happening at once. Taken alone, each one is a challenging diagnosis, but all together at one time, I was truly concerned for his prognosis," Katherine G., the rescue's Dallas and Forth Worth manager tells Waggle. Because Jake was so sick and contagious, he stayed hospitalized on fluids, antibiotics and was quarantined at the animal hospital for weeks so he did not spread germs to other dogs. Eventually, Jake started to get better, and everyone at the animal hospital cheered for his recovery. Jake also had a large tumor on his foot that was surgically removed and sent to pathology. Once he was no longer contagious, his foster mom, Shelia G., picked him up. "The veterinarian's employees loved Jake," she tells Waggle. "He was a bit cautious when he arrived at my house. I would reach out to pet him, and he would hop backward like he didn't want to be caught, but now he's learned pets and belly rubs are coming, and he's all for it." Now everyone is saying prayers the tumor is not cancerous so Jake can be posted for adoption, and this big boy can finally have a second chance at the life he deserves. Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption is a nonprofit organization that doesn't turn away dogs that need medical care. Jake's illnesses and surgery ran up quite a hefty bill; they are hoping generous donors will help them raise the money to pay it off so they can save more dogs.

An email sent to Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption saved George's life. "A Texas shelter sent us a message saying they were going over the dogs in their facility and noted what a nice black Lab George was, but he was missing part of his foot and needed immediate medical help," the rescue's volunteers tell Waggle. When the nonprofit group first saw George's pictures, they were taken by his beautiful but bewildered face and wondered if he was thinking, "What happened to my paw?" No one knows how George hurt his foot. The shelter said he was found in a field, and he may have been injured for quite some time. A kind rescue volunteer picked up George from the shelter and drove him straight to Sunset Canyon Vet to meet with the wonderful Dr. Portie. Lucky Lab had high hopes George might be a candidate for a prosthetic device to help him walk again on all four legs. But the group just found out that an infection has been festering in George's leg and traveled up the bone almost to his shoulder. His muscle in his shoulder has also atrophied because he must not have been using his injured leg for some time. Sadly, George needs to have his leg amputated. The vet says he is young and other than his horrible foot injury, he is relatively healthy. He's expected to make a full recovery from his surgery and should be available for adoption once he's all healed up. Lucky Lab doesn't turn away dogs that need serious medical attention and relies on donations to give more dogs like George a second chance!

Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

Puppy Dobby is sick, hospitalized, and needs your help! This sweet Labrador pup started to have neurological issues; he was having trouble walking and started shaking--- so did some of his littermates. Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption raced the puppies to VCA Northwood Animal Hospital in Indiana. Dobby and his sister Luna are the sickest. Their litter is named after characters from the Harry Potter book series. "He is a very special puppy," Katherine M., president of Lucky Lab Rescue, tells Waggle. "Dobby came to us from a Mississippi shelter with his mom and littermates. We were unsure of what was happening to him, and he had to be admitted to the hospital and quarantined." The puppies are being tested for Distemper. They are too young to be vaccinated against the virus and may have been exposed at the shelter. It breaks Katherine's heart because Dobby is so sweet. "He loves to be held and give puppy kisses," she says. Having an entire litter of sick puppies is draining the rescue's bank account. But Lucky Lab knew they had to fight for these pups and economic euthanasia was not an option. "His vet bills were extensive but necessary to save his life," Katherine says. "It was horrible seeing his lethargic body sick and unable to be a normal puppy." The rescue is hoping with the good care the puppies are getting, they'll be out of the hospital soon and, once they're healthy, adopted into loving homes. With your help, the nonprofit group hopes they will raise the money to pay for Dobby's care.

Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

Puppy Luna is fighting for her life! She is anemic, needs a blood transfusion, and has suspected Distemper. A horrible hand for such a young puppy to be dealt. Katherine M., the president of Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption, was crushed when she heard the news. "My heart sank," she tells Waggle. "We were told by the vet that she was most likely not going to make it. But her little face and eyes screamed that she was not ready to go, so we moved forward with her supportive and life-saving care." The rescue originally saved Luna, along with her mother and littermates, from a shelter in Mississippi. The puppies were too young to be vaccinated against Distemper and were likely exposed to the virus at the shelter. Luna's brothers and sisters are also ill, and some had to be hospitalized. The medical bill for all their care is a massive undertaking. "To have so many sick puppies is incredibly expensive, and it's hitting right at the time our rescue has a lot of medical dogs in need," Katherine says."Our donations are down, likely because of COVID and so many people being out of work." Lucky Lab doesn't turn down dogs that need veterinary care. But when it rains, it pours, and right now, it's pouring. The medical team at VCA Northwood Animal Hospital in Indiana has been pulling for the puppies and working hard to help. The good news is Luna is already starting to perk up. The group arranged for the mama dog and puppies to be brought to their headquarters in Indiana. And just when the nonprofit rescue thought everyone was safe, Godiva became sick. She started showing neurological issues, was twitching, and could not walk well. The president of the rescue, Katherine Martin, rushed Godiva to the animal hospital. "It is so heartbreaking to have a sick puppy," Katherine tells Waggle. "We expect them to have happy stories and great new lives, but life threw us a curveball." VCA Advanced Veterinary Care Center admitted Godiva immediately and brought in a neurologist to evaluate her. She has been on fluids and medication while the medical team runs tests to figure out the cause. "We hope that Godiva will make a full recovery, and she will be adopted into a loving family. We think she is simply adorable," Katherine adds. Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption saves dogs from the Midwest, South, and Texas. The rescue is not afraid to take on tough medical cases and won't turn dogs away if they need advanced veterinary care. But they can only keep their doors open with help from generous donors. Lucky Lab saved a mother dog and a litter of puppies. If our nonprofit rescue did not take them in they all could have been killed. We often never know the backstories of the dogs we save and in this case, we don't know how these puppies became so ill. We raced the entire litter to the veterinarian. All the puppies were admitted to the hospital, but two are in critical condition. Luna is the most ill she remains hospitalized and is getting a blood transfusion tomorrow. She is also anemic. Luna is fighting an uphill battle. We are so worried. Dobby is also very sick and is in isolation. They are such cute puppies. We can't thank people who support our rescue and its mission enough, please help us get through this crisis, and please say prayers these puppies pull through. They need all the help they can get. Our donations are down right now likely because of COVID and so many people being out of work. Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption takes in tough medical cases and doesn't turn down dogs that need veterinary care. But when it rains it pours and right now it's pouring. We are hoping with the proper care and treatment they will pull through and go onto loving homes. Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

Even though Roger was on death's door, he kept winning hearts with his charm. It likely helped save him. A week ago, Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption received an urgent call from a municipal animal shelter. A wonderful and sweet Labrador, who got brought in off the street, needed help immediately. The dog was attacked. He had more than a dozen lacerations and injuries all over his body, including some near-fatal wounds. He needed emergency medical care, which the shelter could not provide, so workers contacted Lucky Lab. "When we saw Roger, we knew we had to help him," Amy T., from Lucky Lab, tells Waggle. "Even though he was in pain, you could see he was trying to keep his happy-go-lucky game face on. There was no way I could say no. The shelter said Roger won the hearts of everyone who met him during his short time there." Rescue volunteers picked up Roger and rushed him to Westcreek VCA Animal Hospital. The veterinarian called the rescue and said Roger was in such awful shape he needed surgery immediately. It appeared he was attacked, likely by coyotes or a pack of dogs. He was at death's door, and if he were bitten one more time, he probably would not have made it. During four hours of surgery, Dr. Jill McNeil and her staff sutured, stitched, and sewed Roger back together. He came out of the operation with sutures just about everywhere, a drain tube from one wound, a head bandage, and an eye injury. When the animal hospital gave Lucky Lab the post-op update, they added, "He's just the nicest, most loving dog. We are so happy to help him." Roger has to stay at the hospital for two weeks for bandage changes and wound care, so everything heals perfectly. He's in pretty fragile shape. Each time Lucky Lab gets an update from the staff, they tell them what an amazing dog Roger is. The good news: He is expected to recover and will hopefully be up for adoption in about a month. What a story, and what a dog! Go, Roger, go! Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption doesn't turn down dogs that need medical care, but the nonprofit rescue relies on donations to pay their tabs at the animal hospital. "Without donations from generous donors and help from organizations like Waggle, we would not be able to save all the dogs we do. We appreciate everyone who gives or shares Roger's fundraiser. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts," Amy adds. "Thank you for helping to save Roger's life."

Poor Ella! Just when Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption hoped the pup would catch a break, she got the wrong kind of break; she broke her leg! Now the rescue and Ella really need your help. Lucky Lab saved Ella when she was a young puppy. She got adopted. Months later, Ella was returned to the rescue because she wasn't doing well with a young child in her adoptive home. The rescue arranged for Ella to live with an amazing foster who noticed the petite pup was very shy and timid. Her foster started working with Ella, teaching her to be more confident, even bringing Ella to work so the pup could socialize more with people and pets. Ella started to blossom. She came out of her shell and was just posted for adoption in Austin, Texas. Then a day ago, Ella was hopping out of the car, got tangled in a leash, and landed wrong. She fractured her leg. It was such a terrible injury her bone protruded through her skin. She is stable in the hospital but needs to have a board-certified surgeon fix her leg immediately. "Sometimes these types of fractures can occur during a dog's normal activities. They land just wrong or twist, and it sets things up for the fracture," Cori J., the rescue's medical director, tells Waggle. After Ella is all fixed up, she will be available for adoption again in the Austin area. She is wonderful with other dogs and people, still shy at times, but she will be your very best friend within minutes. She would do best in a home with adults, or adults with older kids, and a confident dog pal or two. She only weighs 30 pounds, so she would fit right into a pack. "Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption is a nonprofit organization that refuses to turn down any dog because they need medical care," Cori says. "Luckily, with amazing groups like Waggle helping us, we can save dogs who need help. Thank you to all those who help us heal our sweet Ella. Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption volunteers are completely and utterly heartbroken: Puppy Tumble came down with Parvo. "She is the sweetest girl," Amy T., with the rescue, tells Waggle. Parvo is a dangerous, highly contagious virus that is completely preventable if a puppy or dog is vaccinated. Sadly, these puppies were born outside after a person who didn't spay or neuter their pets had an unexpected litter. "Not spaying, neutering, or vaccinating your dog or cat can have serious consequences," Amy says. "Now this puppy is suffering because of it. We see this happen all the time, and it's gut-wrenching." The rescue hopes Puppy Tumble, fighting for her life at New Hope Animal Hospital, can win her battle, and her littermates don't contract the virus. Tiller is a 3-month-old Labrador in Lewisville, IN, who needs $2,000 for bladder surgery.

Lewisville, IN • Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption

Tiller has quite a story! Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption got an urgent message from someone who originally bought this cute 11-week-old Lab puppy from a breeder. What no one knew is Tiller has something seriously wrong with her bladder and needs major and expensive reconstructive surgery to fix it. The puppy has what's called an ectopic ureter. Not to bore you with anatomy and biology, but basically, her ureter is supposed to run from her kidneys to her bladder. Unfortunately, something in the plumbing department got misrouted when she was developing, and her ureter does not connect to her bladder. The rescue had only hours to get a plan in action, but amazingly the most wonderful foster mom offered to take in Tiller. Her former owner did get scans and testing done and found a specialty hospital to handle her case. Now the rescue just needs to raise the money! Her former owner could not keep up with the care she needs nor could they afford the surgery. The breeder, we're told, did not want to take the puppy back. The owner was going to euthanize Tiller, she even had the appointment made to put her down. But right before she did, she contacted Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption asking for help. As a result, this gorgeous black Lab puppy is well, leaking urine everywhere, all the time. And she's getting chronic infections as well. Tiller is not off to a good start at just a few weeks old. Surgery can help fix this, but the operation has to be done by a specialty surgeon at a specialty hospital.
