Danny Boy Has Defied the Odds Once, Now He Needs Your Help Again

kaunakakai, HI • Rescue Kitties of Hawaii

Two years ago, Danny Boy should have died. After being hit by a car on Oʻahu’s North Shore, he was left injured in the sun for hours until an RKH volunteer found him clinging to life with a fractured jaw and a massive head wound. Against all odds, he survived. Now, at 7 years old, this incredible boy is fighting for his life once again. Danny Boy has been diagnosed with FIP and severe, painful stomatitis. He recently stopped eating and drinking, causing his sodium levels to spike dangerously. He requires intensive ICU care at VCA Family Animal Hospital and slow rehydration on IV fluids to survive. The good news? The treatment is working. And after a very recent recheck, his sodium levels are dropping, he is starting to eat on his own, his feeding tube is delivering vital nutrition, and he is finally purring again. Danny Boy hasn't given up, and neither can we. Danny Boy's care requires immediate financial support. We still need to raise over $3,000 to cover his mounting ICU and FIP treatment bills. Danny Boy spent years helping other rescues survive; now he needs us. Please consider making a donation today to give this miracle cat the chance he so deeply deserves. Every dollar goes directly to his lifesaving veterinary care.

Pearl City, HI

Curry has been in our lives since he was 6 months old. He is a German shepherd and Labrador retriever. He lives out in the yard where he’s free to run around but he is currently inside the house due to his current condition. On the morning of Thursday, May 28th, our world turned upside down. We realized our usual routine was broken when Curry wasn’t waiting by the door to greet us. After an anxious search, we found him hiding—a place he had likely been for over 12 hours. When we found him, he was shaking, excessively thirsty, and devastatingly, he had lost all movement in his back legs. His back legs paralyzed. Curry is a brilliant, joyful, and deeply loving companion who has brought so much light into our lives. He is not just a pet, he is family, and he has so much more life left to live. Curry is my only dog, I am a senior citizen with disabilities so I live in limited income. We are holding onto hope for a miracle, the miracle of seeing Curry run and play again. The initial emergency costs, the upcoming diagnostic testing, and surgery, it’s overwhelming.

Pazuzu

Please help Pazuzu who was brought in right before recent flooding in Hawaii.

kaunakakai, HI • Rescue Kitties of Hawaii

The devastating storms hitting Hawaiʻi right now are relentless. Between flooding, thunder, lightning, mud slides, sinkholes, and just total destruction, the roads are completely underwater and impassable. Rescue Kitties of Hawaii's phones have been ringing nonstop with calls for help, but they physically cannot get to so many of them yet, and there are no flights in or out of Molokai, so even critical cases are trapped with us until the storm passes. Luckily, this sweet, little orange kitten was brought to them just before the roads flooded. His name is Pazuzu. He’s about five to six months old and only 3½ pounds… severely underweight. His spine is protruding, and he clearly has some neurological issues. He cannot fully empty his bladder on his own and only passes stool from overflow. They have been manually expressing him and providing round-the-clock critical care. Right now, there is no access to a veterinarian. No transport. No options, but they are doing everything they can. He’s been started on FIP medication, antibiotics in case this is toxoplasmosis, and he is being kept warm, hydrated, and stable… they are trying to buy him time and praying they don’t lose power again. This is the reality on Molokai in a storm like this. Rescue Kitties of Hawaii is not giving up. So many people and animals are displaced from these storms. It’s beyond heartbreaking. Can you please help Pazuzu and Rescue Kitties of Hawaii in this urgent time? 5/30/26 Update Thanks to all of you, Pazuzu is doing really well and keeps growing. He has limited mobility in his hind legs and incontinence issues from the tail pull injury. His vet wants to keep monitoring him to reassess when he grows more to see if his body can heal any further on its own.

Inkjet Needs Your Help

kaunakakai, HI • Rescue Kitties of Hawaii

Inkjet has defied every odd stacked against him, surpassing all expectations after his heart disease diagnosis. Because of his condition, he’s supposed to receive regular testing, but keeping up with that level of care is nearly impossible. Rescue Kitties of Hawaii is a small rescue, and they simply cannot afford the extensive medical support he requires. Now, a year after his initial diagnosis, they’re overjoyed to share that Inkjet is doing better than anyone ever imagined. He’s on two different oral heart medications that have helped him manage his disease, but the vets at VCA need to see him again to adjust his meds and ensure he continues receiving the treatments that keep him stable. On top of his heart condition, Inkjet needs a special Z/D diet each month for his Eosinophilic Granuloma. This food is costly, and his Atopica medication, something he will need for the rest of his life, is also very expensive. Providing Inkjet with the medical care he needs would be the greatest blessing, truly the best Christmas gift for him and for everyone who loves him so deeply. He’s an odd lil duck, but the SWEETEST, most loving boy… every second counts, and we don’t take a single moment with him for granted. He is thriving, living a spoiled, happy, comfortable life—and I like to think he refuses to leave us. 4/22/26 Update Rescue Kitties of Hawaii is still in desperate need of your help to care for Inkjet. They are heartbroken that they have not been able to get his echocardiogram because they lack the funds. Just the bills from his recent vet visit, his special prescription diet food that they buy monthly, plus his daily heart meds are stacking up quickly. Please help support RKH and Inkjet. No amount is too small and is greatly appreciated. 6/5/26 Update Thanks to you, Inkjet is doing really well and has an appointment to get an echocardiogram at the end of August. We are so thankful for your love and support as he continues on his healing journey.

Smokey

Sweet senior kitty Smokey urgently needs our help

kaunakakai, HI • Rescue Kitties of Hawaii

Recently rescued from the small island of Moloka‘i, Smokey was rushed to the hospital after suffering a severe neurological seizure and being diagnosed with pneumonia. Her condition was critical, and she needed immediate, intensive care to survive. Veterinarians quickly began a full diagnostic workup to find the cause of her pneumonia and determine whether she could fully recover. She underwent ultrasounds, an echocardiogram, and extensive bloodwork. Thankfully, all of these tests came back normal—confirming that she wasn’t in heart failure. Instead, doctors discovered age-related thickening of her heart wall, which, while considered normal in older cats, is still concerning. Smokey’s road has been incredibly difficult. She spent more than a week in critical care and remains on a feeding tube to prevent refeeding syndrome after going without proper nutrition for several weeks. The good news is that she’s beginning to show interest in food again and is responding well to fluids and antibiotics. Small victories mean everything—but we're not out of the woods yet. Based on her symptoms, veterinarians suspect she may have neurological FIP, and she has now begun treatment for that as well. Her prognosis is hopeful, but the cost of keeping her alive and giving her a chance at a healthy future has quickly grown overwhelming. Smokey has already had weeks of costly, round-the-clock care, and her medical bills continue to climb. She is fighting with everything she has, and her rescuers at RKH are doing the same—with extremely limited resources. Now that she has made it through the most dangerous part of her journey, we’re asking for your support. Any donation, no matter the size, will help give Smokey the chance to thrive for years to come. Thank you for helping this brave senior girl continue her fight. 1/25/26 Update Her VCA doctors feel she most likely has a cancerous brain tumor, as they basically ruled all other issues out, and that her time with us is limited. But right now she is still here, still very much herself, and still wrapped in so much love. Because of all you, she has comfort, peace, and dignity. She has wonderful doctors who make sure she is not in pain. She is simply living her days surrounded by love, exactly as every soul deserves.

Please help Kris who is need of the full course FIP treatment

kaunakakai, HI • Rescue Kitties of Hawaii

Meet one of RKH's newest kittens named Kris. Her and her siblings were named after the show Three's Company. After a full veterinary assessment and bloodwork, sweet little Kris was diagnosed with FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), a once fatal disease that can now be treated with life-saving medication. Thanks to the quick action of Rescue Kitties of Hawaii and their dedicated vet team, Kris immediately began the costly FIP treatment protocol, along with supportive antibiotics and care. The great news? She’s already gaining weight and showing remarkable improvement! Her sister Janet, was also diagnosed with FIP (a rare situation to see in two kittens from the same litter). But like Kris, Janet is responding wonderfully to treatment. These two sweet girls have come so far. When RKH first rescued them, they were terrified and untouchable, but with the loving care of their amazing foster mom, they’ve blossomed into affectionate, playful kittens. Because foster mom Jackie was so observant and quick to act, both girls got the medical help they needed before it was too late. However, the medical bills are stacking up quickly. Now, they need your help to complete their full 84-day course of FIP treatment, which is the only way to ensure they will both survive and thrive. The medications are expensive, but they are working. With your support, Kris can go on to live a long, healthy, love-filled life with her siblings. Thank you! 6/5/26 Update Thanks to your generosity, Kris is fully healed from FIP treatment and has grown into such a happy, healthy, loving, snuggly cat. He was adored and adopted by a loving family with other fur siblings, and he is living the dream! When I compare his before and after pics it brings happy tears to my eyes. From the wild on Moloka’i as a small, feral, super sick kitten with no chance of survival to an amazing, beautiful, safe indoor life with a wonderful furrrever family and unconditional love. Our rescue journey with Kris lasted over a year in foster care to ensure he was in good health. We miss him and love him always, but our job with him was complete. We set him up for success, and our hearts are full knowing he is so loved and HEALTHY!

Baby Tabs is a 14 year old Mix-Breed in Kapolei, HI, who needs $2,000 for Hospitalization, Oxygen, X-rays, & Bloodwork.

Kapolei, HI

Baby Tabs is a special cat. He was trapped as a kitten during a TNR clinic and we kept him with us so that he would have a fur-ever home rather than being released. He loves to snuggle with one of our other cats, who is his BFF. They are always together and like to walk around the house together and nap next to each other. Baby Tabs was recently diagnosed with diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and now heart disease. He was having difficulty breathing today and was gasping for air, so we rushed him to emergency at VCA Family. While being examined by the emergency vet, his heart stopped. The vet performed CPR and was able to revive him. They found fluid in his lungs, which is the result of his heart disease. Baby Tabs is so affectionate and loves to be pet! He always sleeps on the bed with us and his BFF. He's very loving and took care of his sisters before they passed. Baby Tabs is in need of additional diagnostics and treatment. He is currently being hospitalized and is in an oxygen chamber to help with his breathing. Unfortunately, the vet bills are difficult to handle and we can't afford everything that is being recommended.

Pepper is a 7 year old Belgian Shepherd Dog (Malinois) in Kapolei, HI, who needs $2,000 for Ovariohysterectomy.

Kapolei, HI

We got Pepper when a friend of ours was giving away a litter of puppies. The moment we saw her, we instantly fell in love. She looked just like her siblings, adorable and full of energy, but what made her stand out was a small white spot on her nose that gave her the sweetest, most unique expression. That little mark was enough to let us know she was the one. Pepper was recently diagnosed with pyometra, a serious and life-threatening infection of the uterus that requires emergency surgery. Hearing the news broke our hearts, especially because she’s such a loved member of our family. What’s made this even harder is that the cost of the surgery ranges in the thousands, something we simply can’t afford right now. Pepper is my emotional support animal, but truly, she’s my everything. When panic takes over, she’s the only one who can calm my heart. She stays by my side, loving me through every breakdown, every tear. She’s saved me more times than I can count. Now she needs life-saving surgery, I can’t afford. I’m terrified. I just want to save the one who's always saved me. We’re a military family, and our sweet dog Pepper,my emotional support animal,is fighting for her life. She’s helped me through some of my darkest days. Now she needs emergency surgery we can’t afford, and it’s tearing us apart.

Fatso is a 5 year old Mix-Breed in Waianae, HI, who needs $2,000 for Surgery, Fluids, Sedation, Injection, Bandage, etc.

Waianae, HI

Fatso is the son of my 2 other dogs named Brownie (mom) and Fat Fat (dad). I named him Fatso because he looked just like his dad. He likes to adventure out into our farm and loves eating food all the time. Fatso was attacked on May 26th by a much larger dog and is sustaining severe injuries that require ongoing treatment at the VCA Family and Oahu Veterinary Specialty Center. He requires surgery every so often to remove dead tissue, infection, and fighting off anemia. Fatso is special because I saved him numerous times. There were times from when he was choking, something smashed his feet, lost in the farm, etc. He is quiet, funny, and likes to side eye a lot. The wound Fatso is experiencing is an ongoing treatment that takes a good amount of time. With that, a lot of financial burning is occuring for each day he is in the hospital. I really need the help from anyone who can support financially or supportively.

Pu`uwai Ho`ola is a 11 year old Italian Greyhound in Kailua, HI, who needs $2,000 for Surgical Mass Removal with Anesthesia, Hospitalization, Etc..

Kailua, HI

I adopted Pu`uwai Ho`ola (Hawaiian for "healing heart") 7 yrs ago from the Hawaiian Humane Society after I lost my previous dog 1-1/2 yrs before. Pu`u had been abandoned by her previous owners & was heartworm positive but I adopted her, had her spayed, & nursed her back to health after heartworm treatment. She has been living happily with my Devon Rex cat, Anuenue, & me ever since! Pu`u had acquired some lumps on her body but nothing looked alarming until her most recent check-up. The vet tested a suspicious one it & it came back as cancerous Mast Cell Tumor. I was able to get an urgent consultation with surgeon Dr. Nate Lam @ VCA Family & Oahu Veterinary Specialty Center & he is pretty confident he can get the lump & the nearby lymph nodes (prayerfully w/ clear margins). Even though I adopted Pu`u as a "senior" dog, she has so much energy & spunk! She is a happy & very sweet dog. Everyone (2- or 4-legged) who come into contact with her comments on how sweet & friendly she is. She & my cat are besties-playing, sleeping & rough housing together & she has endeared herself to my new BF as well. She loves to run, play w/ her many toys, cuddle, go on car rides & sleep! I was on temp disability for several months due to a health issue of my own so I don't have a lot of reserves stored up. But Pu`u is too healthy otherwise & is too previous to us to consider her a lost cause. I don't want money to be the reason her happy life is cut short.

Ramses is a 8 year old Old English Bulldog in ewa beach, HI, who needs $2,000 for Life Support due to Complications from Surgery.

ewa beach, HI

I have had Rames from when he was a puppy. It is my closest thing I have to a child. He lives with me and my girlfriend, he also has a sister and younger brother. Currently he is in a coma after going into cardiac arrest during his surgery for his ACL. Surgery went well, but for some reason 15 mins after his surgery his heart stopped. Doctors were able to perform CPR and get it going again. He has been in a coma for the past 48 hours with assisted breathing. I am not sure how long I can afford to keep him under there care, but I do not want to give up. He is the gentlest dog in the world. Always so loving and gentle with everyone. He is our world and I just can't give up on him. If anyone can help keep that chance alive with donations then I will keep fighting for this angel. The cost of the surgery was planned, and we can cover the cost, but the cost to keep him alive until he wakes from this come is more than we can afford. Not sure if he will or will not wake up, but I'm here asking to give him some more time if at all possible. thank you

Chico is a 2-year-old Mix in Ewa Beach, HI, who needs $2,000 for Urate Stone Removal.

Ewa Beach, HI

My other half had found Chico on Craigslist. As we contacted the owner, she had told us that they didnt want him due to his “small” size. We went ahead and purchased him from them. We took him to Petco for shots. Chico had a very foul smell when we got him, he also had worms. After having him for a month, he had to have a surgery due to Urate stones. Chico, along with our 2 other dogs that my sister had left behind due to Cancer, is very playful. They cry when one is not home— even for just a walk. Chico is very loving, he loves his cuddles. He always greets us when we come home from a long day at work. Chico, when told to speak, growls instead. He knows how to get more snack — by thinking he is big enough to try and reach for it. Chico makes noises as he eats his dinner.9 He was having a hard time peeing and pooping. He was digging dirt so he could lay in there. We took him to VCA Pet Hospital and they said they need to do surgery to remove the stones as the stones are big. They qouted us $8,500-$10,000. It is way too much as we are just regular working people. Chico means the world to us, specially our son. It hurts that we cant even help him right now due to financial situation. Cost of living in Hawaii is high. Living paycheck to paycheck just to make ends meet. Chico helps us at home by taking off that stress we have.

Mele, Hawai'ian for merry, came into our life at eight weeks old. She is always happy. We brought her into our family three months after our beloved dog of 14 years passed. She is always smiling and loves to cuddle up next to everyone she meets for a hug or long pets. One of Mele's favorite pastime is to eagerly greet our mail carrier each day and often jumps inside. She will do the same for all UPS drivers. Mele also loves taking long walks and swimming at the beach. In the evening, she enjoys resting next to us. She's very in tune with us because she is so observant & communicates by getting our attention and leading us to her desired object. Mele's favorite toy is a frisbee. She is can't wait for us to throw it and give it chase. She is always happy, undemanding. She enjoys doing whatever we are engaged in; as long as she is by our side. Mele has been diagnosed with lymphoma in her neck area & behind her knee joints, along with an enlarged spleen. We are awaiting tests to determine the type of lymphoma. She just completed her first round of chemo and must undergo chemo every 3 wks. to manage the cancer for a longer quality of life and possible remission. I I am fully employed but have limited resources. I paid for the tests, lab work, x-rays, ultrasound and first round of chemo using my savings, but I cannot afford to pay for the next several rounds which are almost $550 ea. Jagger

Jagger is a 8-year-old Brussels Griffon in Kailua, HI, who needs $1,000 for Bilateral Perineal Hernia Repair.

Kailua, HI

Jagger is the quirkiest and sweetest little dog. When we take him on walks people point and say, “Awe! He’s like a little lion!” Because of his haircut. He came into my life through my boyfriend. I had never seen another dog like him, and was a little hesitant when petting him at first, but he very quickly won me over and now I consider him the most darling-est of darlings. Jagger literally spends 24/7 with us. When he cuddles next to me, I like to say, “Awe! He loves his mummiums”. Every night we ask him, “Do you want to go on the walkums?!” And he will scoot around with so much excitement that his front legs almost can’t keep up with his back. When he is on his walk he is basically the happiest creature you will ever see. From research online, we expected the surgery to be approx $1500 to maybe $4,000. We were shocked at the total of just the surgery being $5356 to $6,695. We are currently on one income while I am searching for a remote job online, having lost my former job due to COVID. To me, because Jagger is so small and energetic, he will always look like a puppy. Male dogs that are older and haven’t been neutered are more at risk for perennial hernias. This is a dangerous condition due to the risk of an organ misplacing into the hernia, which would lead to an instant emergency. He is going to be treated at the VCA In Oahu. Jagger will wake me up in the morning sometimes by laying on my chest with a quick little grumpy, demanding yap. He will even impatiently tap me on the face with his tiny toothpick sized legs. I’ll ask if he wants “brekkie?” He will immediately jump off of me and hop around in an excited little circle. I sometimes feel annoyed because I just want to sleep a bit longer, but italways makes me laugh.

Odin

Odin is a 4-year-old Bulldog mix in Honolulu, HI, who needs $1,998 for TPLO surgery.

Honolulu, HI

This is Odin, he's a Bulldog, American Bulldog and Mastiff mix that I rescued from the Hawaiian Humane Society in July. I was overjoyed when I picked Odin up, he's super sweet like a big teddy bear, and even listens to common commands. I thought to myself, this is too good to be true, who just gives away such a sweet dog, I guess I'm just lucky.... Turns out Odin has blown both his ACLs and needs a very expensive surgery. This is probably why he was surrendered to the Humane Society. We are hoping the power of social media can help and are looking for donations to contribute towards a TPLO procedure, any donation will help. Please share this page and comment below even if you don't donate. Mahalo! Full Story: After a few days of getting to know him I noticed he waddled a little when he walked and at the time didn't think much of it. Then one day I noticed he wasn't putting full pressure on his back left leg. I figured he hurt his back foot somehow, it didn't seem that bad, I'll just keep an eye on it. After a few days of no improvement I realized this could be more serious than I thought, I better get him checked out. The next day I took him to the Vet and right away the Vet could tell Odin's leg wasn't right, after giving him a thorough examination it was determined that Odin had an "cranial cruciate ligament" (CCL) which is basically the same thing as an ACL tear but for dogs it has a different name because of their anatomy. Unfortunately for both Odin and I this is a fairly serious injury that requires a major operation and costs around $4000 per leg. The name of the surgery is called TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) the philosophy behind the TPLO surgery is to completely change the dynamics of the dog’s knee so that the torn ligament becomes irrelevant to the stability of the knee itself. Developed by Dr. Barclay Slocum, the TPLO surgery was originally considered a radical procedure for addressing canine ACL injuries. Now in existence for over 20 years, the surgery has proven itself time and time again, to be an extremely effective long-term solution for addressing this injury in dogs, providing quicker recover and superior long term results. When a dog tears its ACL, every time the dogs goes to stand or put weight on the leg, the femur slides/rubs on the back of the tibia. This rubbing causes pain and inflammation, which is very uncomfortable. This is why most dogs with a torn ACL will not even put any weight on the leg, or if they do, they will just toe touch the leg to the ground. The true beauty of the TPLO surgery is that it completely alters the dynamics of the knee. Once the bone is cut and the tibial plateau is rotated, where the femur and the tibia communicate, no longer can the femur slide backwards. The knee is immediately stabilized. By doing so, this eliminates the need for the ACL ligament entirely and returns stability to the joint immediately. So here we are, about 4 weeks after the Vet diagnosed Odin's injured ACLs and his condition has not improved even with limiting all his activity down to just taking potty breaks. In fact, he seems to be getting worse, he hardly puts any weight on his back left leg now and sometimes in the morning when he stretches he whines in pain. I'll be documenting his entire recovery process and will keep updating everyone upto date here.
