Toasty

Toasty is a 4 year old Manx in Olney , MD, who needs $7,498 for Steroids, Immune-Suppressing Meds, Transfusions.

Olney, MD

I've fostered Toasty since he was a tiny kitten with his bonded brother- Hazy. They began as Chubby (Toasty) and Nubby (Hazy) - they both don't have tails— leading me to believe that they are Manx cats. From day one, he's been playful, affectionate, and full of personality. They've grown up side by side, and their bond is unbreakable. Lately, Hazy is confused and calling out for his brother😞 Toasty is facing serious health challenges and is currently in the ICU. He's receiving blood transfusions, steroids, and monitoring for an immune condition. These treatments are critical to stabilize him and give him a real chance at a happy, healthy life. The medical team at Veterinary Referral Associates is providing thorough and thoughtful care while they determine a definitive diagnosis. is a friendly, social, and loving boy. Toasty greets me at the door everyday when I get home and follows me around until it's time to cuddle. Toasty is the dominant brother (about 2lbs heavier) and caretaker/groomer of Hazy. He loves laying in his perched hammocks, bird and squirrel watching, and cuddles with his mom and brother. He also loves a good box and wrestling with Hazy. Toasty’s medical care is costly, and I can't cover it alone. Every donation helps pay for ICU care, medications, and life-saving treatments. Your support ensures he gets the care he needs to survive and thrive-help Toasty keep fighting and bring him home to us.

Chocolate Mousse

Chocolate Mousse Can’t Eat Without Life-Saving Surgery

York, PA • The Lone Ranger Cat Rescue

Chocolate Mousse—affectionately called “Mogwai”—is a tiny kitten who has been fighting to survive since the day she was born. Mogwai arrived just four days before Christmas, born to her mother Bathsheba, who had been rescued from a breeder in Georgia earlier that same month. At first, everything seemed normal. Mogwai nursed well during her first weeks of life and steadily gained weight as she grew stronger. But when it came time to transition from nursing to solid food, something was very wrong. Little Chocolate Mousse began having severe difficulty swallowing, followed by frequent regurgitation after eating. Despite multiple veterinary visits and several rounds of X-rays, her condition continued to worsen. During one episode, she inhaled food into her lungs, causing aspiration pneumonia—a dangerous complication for such a small kitten. After extensive diagnostics, veterinarians finally discovered the heartbreaking cause. She was born with a congenital vascular ring anomaly, a rare birth defect where part of the heart’s blood vessel structure develops incorrectly. Instead of regressing during fetal development, the right aortic arch forms a ring around the esophagus and trachea, compressing them and preventing food from passing normally into the stomach. In simple terms, every time Mogwai tries to eat, her body cannot move the food down properly. Without treatment, kittens with this condition slowly starve despite wanting to eat. The good news is that there is hope. Veterinary specialists can perform a delicate thoracic surgery called a thoracotomy, where surgeons carefully ligate and divide the abnormal vessel causing the compression. This procedure releases the pressure on the esophagus and allows food to pass normally again. When caught early—before long-term damage from aspiration pneumonia—the prognosis is very good, and many kittens go on to live full, healthy lives. But this highly specialized surgery is urgent and costly. Lone Ranger Cat Rescue is committed to giving Chocolate Mousse the chance she deserves, but the diagnostics, treatment for pneumonia, and the upcoming thoracic surgery are significant expenses for a small rescue. Your donation will help cover: • Diagnostic imaging and veterinary evaluations • Treatment for aspiration pneumonia • Specialist surgical consultation • Life-saving thoracic surgery (thoracotomy) • Post-operative hospitalization and recovery care Despite everything her tiny body has endured, our little truffle is still fighting. She wants to eat, to grow, and to live the happy life every kitten deserves. With your help, this little Christmas miracle can get the surgery she needs to finally eat, grow, and thrive. Please donate today to help save Mogwai’s life. Every contribution brings her one step closer to a healthy future. 4/24/26 Update We are so deeply saddened to share that sweet Chocolate Mousse — our tiny “Mogwai” — has passed away. From the very beginning, she fought harder than any kitten ever should have to. Despite her will to eat, to grow, and to live, her little body was up against a devastating congenital condition that made even the simplest act — swallowing — a constant struggle. Her diagnosis of a vascular ring anomaly, compounded by aspiration pneumonia, created complications that became too much for her fragile body to overcome. This is not the outcome anyone hoped for. But because of you, Mogwai did not suffer without care. She was seen, diagnosed, and supported every step of the way. She was surrounded by people who refused to give up on her, who advocated for her, and who made sure she felt comfort and love in her final days. That matters. It matters more than we can ever fully express. Your donations allowed her to receive critical diagnostics, treatment, and the chance to fight — a chance so many animals never get. You gave her dignity, compassion, and the gift of being deeply cared for. We wish this story ended differently. We wish love alone could have saved her. Thank you for standing with Mogwai, for believing in her, and for showing her that her life — no matter how short — mattered. Please continue to support animals like her, who are still waiting for their chance. Run free, little Mogwai. 🤍

Mike

Mike is a 12 year old Himalayan/Colorpoint Persian in potomac, MD, who needs $5,000 for Left Eye Enucleation.

potomac, MD

We acquired Mike from a Himalayan cat pet breeder in Pennsylvania 12.5 years ago. My boss's name at that time was Mike Ball, and this little tiny creature looks just like a little white furry ball of joy. Hence, the name was chosen for him! Mike's left eye had succumbed to an incurable virus and is now blind, swollen, and infected, and has to be surgically removed at Veterinary Referral Associates. Mike is pure joy to be around, even though he is often mischievous, but that is also what makes him so adorable. He has an admirable quality: he feels his favorite family members' frustrations and offers his love at such times. In our family, there is only one breadwinner currently, and we are putting our youngest son through the first year of university. Mike is our emotional support.

Linox is a 1 year old American Shorthair in Damascus, MD, who needs $2,000 for Right Leg Tibia Surgery.

Damascus, MD

We adopted linox when he was 3 months little boy. He had a hernia surgery when he was 7 months. Linox is a lovely outdoor cat who got lost for two nights and was found at the forest with his leg broken. The veterinarian said the only way to fix his leg is with surgery. After paying 1,300.00 for his diagnostic and low income it is impossible for me to afford surgery that could reach 9 thousands $ I took linox to emergency hospital Veterinary Referral associates in Gaithersburg MD. They gave me an estimate of his leg surgery. I don’t know where else to go and get a cheaper estimate or any help to afford this expensive surgery. Linox came to my life when I needed the most! I came back home after a ACL right knee surgery that make me quit my favorite thing in life that was soccer when my boyfriend brought him a little kitten that brought me back to life with his love and affection! Linox is the sweetest cat. He never gets upset and always begs for cuddles even with strangers! Everyone in the neighborhood loves him. My family and I spent all the money last month with a family member who was diagnosed with leukemia. Right now I have low income and I am unable to afford linox leg surgery.

Midnight

Midnight is a 11 year old American Shorthair in Laurel, MD, who needs $1,575 for FIC/FLUTD Diagnostic and Treatment.

Laurel, MD

Midnight has been with me since 2021 and is my first ever pet. I adopted Midnight through a local cat adoption organization when he was about 7 years old. When I first adopted Midnight, he was rather overweight, but has since dropped to a healthy weight since he’s gotten sick with his FIC (feline idiopathic cystitis)/ FLUTD (feline lower urinary tract disease). In 2023, he developed a urethral blockage that sent him to the vet ER. After a second blockage, the vet suggested PU surgery to prevent future blockages, along with a strict regimen of prescription cat food. Midnight is currently seeing specialists including Dr. Lechner at Vet Referral Associates to perform a diagnostic of his current condition which may include more surgery or radiation. After adopting Midnight, there was an instant attachment to this big guy. He is an affectionate and cuddly older cat, which complicates things because ever since his extensive procedures, he has become incontinent. His incontinence can make him more prone to UTIs and because of his conditions, he has racked up a long history of vet visits and expenses to keep his condition manageable. Due to increasing cost of living and the costs of his many hospital visits in 2023, the resurgence of urinary tract problems will prove to be difficult to cover. I hope to give Midnight a more comfortable and cuddle-filled life if his symptoms can be alleviated.

Midnight is a 11 year old American Shorthair in Laurel, MD, who needs $1,575 for Diagnostic of Chronic Urinary Issues.

Laurel, MD

Midnight is the first pet I’ve owned and has been with me since 2021. He was 7 years old when I adopted him from a local adoption organization. Currently, Midnight and another cat I adopted a year ago live together with just me in my first house. The other cat’s name is Madame Peanut, and she was a foster-to-adopt that I hoped could get along with Midnight to keep him company if I wasn't home. In 2023, he developed a urethral blockage that sent him to the vet ER. That night and that week onwards has changed our lives considerably. After a second blockage, the vet requested we try to give him a PU surgery (Perineal Urethrostomy) to prevent future blockages, along with a strict regimen of urinary health cat food. Now, AVIMO Annapolis is suggesting a permanent stent. (pending) When I adopted Midnight, he was already far from a kitten, at 7 years old. I came to quickly see that Midnight loved to get pets, sit on laps, and had a liking to playing with shoelaces. I always had a soft spot for the senior and overlooked pets, so it was an instant attachment to this big guy when I first met him at his foster's. Midnight also quickly became attached to me, a "momma's boy.". Due to increasing cost of living and the costs of his many hospital visits in 2023, the resurgence of urinary tract problems will prove to be difficult to cover. His first pet insurance could not cover enough of the cost, I mostly paid OOP and eventually with my savings.

He is under the care of Dr. Sara Fritz at Veterinary Referral Associates in Gaithersburg, MD. He’s currently Stage II, Substage A, and a strong candidate for CHOP chemotherapy, which could extend his life 12–18 months or more. Royce is incredibly intuitive, gentle, and emotionally in tune with everyone around him. As my emotional support animal, he senses stress and offers comfort without being asked. He’s playful but calm, affectionate but respectful, and wins over even those who are unsure about dogs. He’s more than a pet—he’s family, and he brings peace, joy, and connection into our home every day. I just graduated from college and am working hard to build my future while navigating unexpected medical expenses for my dog, Royce. I’ve already spent over $1,100 on his care, but the cost of chemotherapy is more than I can handle alone. Having him healthy again would mean

Little Rocko is such a special addition to our family. We rescued him from a non-profit organization back in mid October, Calle to Casa. He has been a joy since day one. He joined our 2 other kittens Gati and Mango. They became quick friends. He is now a 5 month little fur baby. On Monday January 6th, out first snow day, Rocko’s left humerus bone of the left leg was accidentally broken. We went to Montgomery Animal center, after X-rays we were referred for surgery. We went to Vererinary Referral Associates. When Rocko went in to surgery his red blood cell count was very low and he was anemic, since then his condition worsened and he needed a blood transfusion. He is always happy, hungry and always looking for someone to cuddle with. He quickly because the little baby of the whole family. He loves to eat and is very dramatic when he is hungry! This accident is a big financial hit for our family running into about $10,000, we really need any help we can get. We have had some unexpected financial hits in the past couple of years and this has been a big hit.

Tammy is a 6 year old Mix-Breed in Rockville , MD, who needs $2,000 for Critical Care for Pancreatitis.

Rockville, MD

Our daughter always wanted a dog, and we promised her that she would get one. She would pet any dog that crossed her path and we used to go to pet adoption events frequently. We love Yorkies and Schnauzers, so when we eventually found Tammy it was love at first sight. She is our baby, our copilot, our perfect calming and cheerful companion. She goes everywhere with us. Suddenly, Tammy developed severe pancreatitis and it got very serious. She needed a very complicated surgery and critical care before and after the surgery. She has already been admitted for 10 days, initially at Metropolitan Animal Center and currently at VRA, Veterinary Referral Associates. She is improving slowly but still has a feeding tube and requires labs and many medications. Tammy has the sweetest temperament. She welcomes everyone with excitement. She loves playing volleyball with her older sister and running around the basement with her dad. She loves children and rolls over so they scratch her belly. We believe she smiles at times. She is also the first one to know who is feeling sad because she will stay close and give gentle kisses. Tammy has good care at VCA and we got her medical insurance. Unfortunately we had no idea of how expensive it could get and already used it all. She is improving and we will not stop her care as long as her vets believe she can make it. Would love to have her home again.

Columbia, MD

Serenity is a ten-year-old mixed breed dog we adopted as a 7-week-old puppy. She was billed as a pure breed German Shepherd, but DNA proved that wrong. She has seven different breeds! She has had a blessed life with four cats and 2-days a week at playdates. Living in Maryland she gets car rides daily and goes everywhere with her family. She loves interacting with people and is often called the neighborhood welcome party. Mostly she enjoys sitting near Mom as she works. When visitors arrive, she is the first to greet them usually with butt wags and small barks. She is the center of the house and our family. She is incredibly special due to her coloring. In the last four years, she has turned white on her head. As a surprise when told it was vitiligo. The same problem that Michael Jackson had and most people did not know that it was something that dogs can experience. It makes her so beautiful and special. December 2023 had Serenity limping which led us to make a veterinary appointment. Thinking it was just a pulled muscle we were heartbroken to find that it was bone cancer. After several veterinary appointments and testing the cancer is limited to her left front leg. We scheduled to have the leg removed but the bill of $7578.18 plus earlier bills $2,740.60. Pressing is the surgery cost. I can only get a loan for $4800 and if my credit is not perfect it is a high rate. Hoping for assistance with this bill.

Sandy Spring, MD

Lucky joined our family on St. Patrick's Day 2021 for my son, Shane's 10th birthday. He was 9 weeks old and the sweetest pup. He joined our other dog Lucy, a 3 year old Boston Terrier. Prior to Lucky's arrival, we sadly had to rehome another dog due to fighting between Lucy and that dog, that despite months of trying it couldn't be resolved. My kids were excited to welcome Lucky to our family. Lucky and Lucy get along marvelously, thankfully. Lucky is silly and and quite the peppy little guy. He loves chasing all 3 of my son's around in the backyard. He thinks my youngest son, Keegan is his favorite toy! He is also quite the cuddle-bug and loves to take his naps on your lap or cradled in your arms (his favorite!). He acts like he is a baby, my husband and I call him Perma-Baby! We found out very early on, that Lucky is almost completely blind left eye and has reduced vision in his right. But that doesn't slow him down one bit! But as a result, he puts almost everything he comes across in his mouth to explore it! We take care of Lucky's eyes by seeing an opthamologist and putting a special ointment on multiple times a day. It has worked and his eyes are doing great! June 2022, we sponsored a college baseball player to live at our home for the summer. He accidentally left a basket of laundry on the floor of our laundry room. Lucky snuggled in this basket and found Tide Pods. He chewed open the pod and became very ill. He spent a week in the hospital in an Oxygen Crate and almost died. Thankfully, he recovered! Months later, he developed recurring pneumonia. We just finished paying off the $5k loan from Scratch Pay for his hospitalization. Since his 2 rounds of aspirated pneumonia in 3 months (another $3k) are highly unusual, our vet referred us to specialists and they need to do a surgery which is $6k. HELP US HELP LUCKY!

He has a loving home that loves him dearly and constantly tries to give him the best care he can possibly get. He loves to tackle with his brother who is a cat and they love to play together especially at night time when they run around the house like maniacs! Cody loves to go on long walks and has 4 walks a day! He loves to eat his homemade chicken, rice, veggies, and ground beef. He barely eats his dry food now ever since his sister has started cooking for him. He likes to sleep with his legs up and he does snore which is the cutest little noise ever! Be aware though, Cody is a barker and loves to bark at strangers. I just want the best care for Cody and without financial help, as a 22-year old that has to pay for his surgery because my parents are not able to, it is hard when I just graduated from my university and haven't found a job yet! My parents can only help so much. I originally took Cody to Germantown vet clinic to get his dental cleaning but it turned to be the opposite of what I was expecting. It turned out Cody had an anal gland and was referred to an oncologist specialist at Veterinary Referral Associates. We are not sure if it is AGASACA until his surgery is performed and the mass is taken to a biopsy to be confirmed. Cody barks at any stranger he sees and gets excited to see anyone walk by the house. He gets excited to see his mom and dad when they arrive from work especially his dad! He is a daddy's boy and does not leave his side. He is scared of thunder and will wake you up in the middle of the night if he hears thunder.

She was sick and fragile and had been surrendered with no information, not even a name. She's been by our side ever since. Living in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New York. We currently all live together in Pittsburgh. June is the ultimate couch potato. You can almost always find her sleeping on the couch or even tucked into bed. Yes, we her head on the pillow and all. She truly believes she is human and sometimes convinces us she just might be. Although she's 10, she still loves a good walk through the woods and keeps up for a little, old lady. She is loved by all of our family members and friends. I am a full time student and working part time. Emilio works at Whole Foods. We've been so grateful to work through the pandemic but as we all know times are tight. As someone with a panic disorder, especially during these difficult time, June has been my emotional support. June has been a very healthy dog all the way up until her diagnosis. She has been active even throughout her first month of treatment and continues to be in good spirits thus far. June has been diagnosed with B-cell lymphoma. She is being treated at Veterinary Referral Associates by Dr. Sara Fritz. As I stated earlier, June is part human. When she needs to go outside, she will grab your hand with her mouth and pull you to the door. When she wants to eat, she will give you side-eye until you give her her meal or a snack. And when she wants to get into your bed, she must be formally invited with a pat on the bed instead us jumping up on her own. She sleeps right in between Emilio and I.

Puyallup, WA

Ginger and i have had a very long difficult, hard but successful road i got her when i was 19 years old she started out my adult life with me, watched me grow, transform, and make the choices to form me into the person i am. we have been through so much together not by choice but by fate she was put here for me so i could understand that the world is not what i was led to believe as a complicated, fostered adolescent. All of the negativity i acquired from insecurities and uncertainties started to show glimpses and screen shots of a more positive outlook and view on not only people but life in general and possibilities of a brighter future. without our bond and love for eachother i would be stuck with a very unhappy and negative perception of the world.... uncertain & unsure-because i wasn't in control of my own life (she helped me to establish responsibility for myself and another life ) cold-not being able to see the bigger picture of the distance and detachment from others (she is never cold towards me & she/we are the bigger picture) cruel- unable to gain or grasp the true meaning behind others choices and/or words (she has no words only her actions display her feelings and only mine show and reciprocate) my life before her was soaked with sadness covered up carefully by a mask of damaged glimpses of hope and unknown will to survive over ran by the fear of being alone/rejected or forgotten. our relationship started as a mutual need from one another i needed a friend and she needed food and shelter but after some time she slowly became my reminder and reason to continue to allow myself to feel, to not completely desowen my inner self and become the cutoff cold and cruel sort of individuals i had become so used to. I believe she is my souls perfect counterpart she's my life's level, the Good to all the bad, my gift for all the unwanted yet still displayed strength, the yin to my yang, my hero, my friend, my teacher, my consistent, my very own true and pure example of unconditional Love. I understand how that might seem ridiculous or over exaggerated especially those with a more stable, upbringing or at least more secure relationships with others. Each to their own but the truth is My little Ginger has brought me happiness where happiness was long forgotten. She has made me a better person in so many ways and please do not take light when i say has saved my life both in a literal sense and figurative one and that alone is the reason i will continue to fight for hers because she is worth it. shes worth another day another year whichever turns out to be allowable. Doesn't everyone else want the same things.... just to feel safe, comfortable, loved, and cared for when were unable to care for ourselves. Taking her life is not an option for her and i. I am not capable of making that decision nor do i feel like it should even be one given to me. If she were in the same position roles reversed she would love me to death not decipher when is the best time for it to take place.

His Mommy "Gaby" belongs to our neighbour, Mary who loved Marco and Polo's dispositioned, she said she wanted to mate Gaby with one of our boys...Polo was the winner..and soon Gaby was pregnant, she had 4 pups 3 boys and a girl...the second I saw Shadow's little round silky shiny fur ball body I fell in love with him, and have been every second since!! Shadow was welcomed and loved by our other 2 pups a year old at the time and they are to this day inseparable!!!! Marco and Polo are both Poodles, we brought them home at the same time, Marco was 8 weeks old and Polo was 3 months old. We have as some ppl would say, "spoiled" our babies..We cook them fresh food every other day, We knit and crochet all of their blankies and sweaters by both my daughter and myself, Shadow loves to wear any and everything and it is so funny to see how each one of them knows, which sweater or blanket belongs to who!!! and if I put the wrong one on one of them, rest assured they clearly let me know...They are very vocal!!! and it is hilarious to see them lined up to get their measurements!! Shadow is very laid back, he has the Beagle body, with the poodle face but looks like both Gaby and Polo. He's intuition or whatever you want to call it has saved my life more than once, the last time he saved me from what could have been the loss of my leg. He is the sweetest, loyal, obedient, Baby you can ever meet! And unless you hear it for yourself you will not believe he says Momma!!!! He loves it when I sit him with me and just rub him and cuddle with him and loves it, even more, when I sneak him an extra treat after his Nana told him no more!! Words can not express how I feel about My Shadow nor what he means to our family, and I can honestly say from the bottom of my heart is that He keeps me alive, our babies are my reason for waking up every day.

However, today I can't walk further than a block. I lost 7 pounds between September-October 2019 from vomiting every day 3 times a day. This picture is the picture of me today on the floor as i can't get up easy to walk. The huge picture to the left is my pal guardian Dublin who is 2 years older than me. He likes to keep my painful stomach warm with his fur. I stopped eating about a week ago and I need an endoscopy because I have "a mass" on my stomach that is causing me severe burning pain and vomit. Last month it was hurting so bad I had diarrhea on my owner's mattress with blood. I have been examined by a sonographer and internal medicine doctor. My parents have spent $840 plus dollars on x rays and other testing plus medicine and food. My owner is looking for employment and refuses to put me to sleep. The doctor wants to do a biopsy and endoscopy on the "mass" that is showing on the sonography image since Oct 10, 2019. The veterinary hospital accepts payments over the phone. I keep waiting mean while, we can't do this without your donations!
