Kipper

A midnight rescue for an abandoned senior dog in terrible condition.

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

This little guy was a midnight save by Castaway Critters. Someone spotted him wandering the streets, and when they went to pick him up, he somehow escaped again. Then, in what feels like pure fate, he wandered directly in front of the rescuers of Castaway Critter's vehicle. Right place. Right time. Once they got him safe, they realized just how much he had been suffering. His fur was among the worst matting they'd ever seen—so severe that his feet had turned purple from restricted circulation. His nails were painfully overgrown, forcing him to walk on them instead of his paw pads. He has a painful wound on his back, a serious skin infection, significant hearing loss, and impaired vision. His teeth also desperately need attention. Their first steps were to de-flea him and scan for a microchip. And thankfully, he had one. That's when they learned this little guy is 14 years old and was once known as Kipper. Unfortunately, his owner's information is outdated. They have no idea how long he has been on his own or how he survived in this condition. But one thing is clear: an elderly, hearing-impaired, vision-impaired dog covered in severely neglected fur and overgrown nails did not simply end up this way overnight. Someone knew him. Someone was responsible for him. For now, they're focusing on getting Kipper comfortable, treating his skin infection and injuries, addressing his dental needs, and giving this senior boy the care he should have received long ago. His medical needs are significant, and Castaway Critters is asking for your help. Please consider donating toward Kipper's veterinary care, medications, grooming, dental treatment, and recovery. Every dollar, no matter the size, helps give him the comfort and dignity he deserves. We want Kipper to know that his life matters—and that from this point forward, he is safe.

Oscar

Please help Oscar from being abandoned in critical condition.

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

When Castaway Critters took Oscar in, he was in critical condition, and 17 other rescues had already denied taking him in. His eyes were crusted shut, his fur was completely matted, he was severely dehydrated and infested with fleas, and the infection in his mouth was so advanced that he could barely eat. His tail had fallen off long ago, and the smell coming from his tiny body told us just how much suffering he had endured. Oscar is at least 12 years old, and despite everything he's been through, he is still fighting. He was rushed to Shores Veterinary Emergency Center, where he has already undergone sedation, bloodwork, FIV/FELV testing, fluid therapy, flea treatment, and the removal of three severely infected teeth. Veterinarians discovered extensive infections in his mouth, and because he is so thin, additional testing is being done to determine whether his weight loss is due to his dental disease or something even more serious. The good news is that Oscar tested negative for FIV and FeLV. Now, they're praying that there isn't another underlying illness standing in his way. His medical bills are already significant, but they couldn't turn their backs on him when so many others had no choice but to say no. Today, Castaway Critters is urgenly asking for your help. Every donation will go directly toward Oscar's emergency care, diagnostics, medications, and the treatment he desperately needs. Oscar has spent far too long suffering alone. Now, let's show him what love feels like.

Castaway Critters was hit with another hoarding case. They need you now!

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

Castaway Critters was hit with yet another hoarding situation. They did not skip a beat and loaded up the car full of crates for another extraction. Their team assembled, geared up, set up their stations, and got straight to work. By the end of the day, seven more cats had been pulled from unimaginable conditions and brought to safety. There were no complaints, no hesitation, and no stopping—because these animals needed them. Now that they're safe in their medical sanctuary, the real work begins. These sweet cats are covered in hundreds of fleas and suffering from worms, diarrhea, and possible upper respiratory infections. Many are frightened, withdrawn, and clearly unsure if they can trust the humans around them. To make matters worse, only one of the seven has been spayed or neutered. Castaway Critters is beyond capacity. Every foster home, every medical pod, and every crate is full. They are currently caring for nearly 200 animals, yet they couldn't turn their backs on these cats. They can't do it without your help. They're asking for your help to provide the medical care, food, medications, and supplies they desperately need. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps them continue saying "yes" to animals who have nowhere else to go. They have a long road ahead, but one thing is certain: they will never have to face it alone again. Thank you for your continued support.

Rocky

Please help Rocky fight for his life after being severely burned.

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

Meet Rocky, a 9-month-old Terrier who survived a devastating house fire. Nearly 70% of his body is burned, and despite unimaginable pain, this sweet boy is fighting with everything he has. Rocky is receiving around-the-clock emergency care at Shores Veterinary Emergency Center. He is on a feeding tube, IV fluids, antibiotics, pain medication, and intensive burn wound care. His eyes are covered in painful ulcers from the fire, and every round of medications and treatment takes nearly two hours. Rocky's owner was unable to take on the enormous cost of his care, so when Shores asked if Castaway Critters could step in, they immediately said yes. They wouldn't let this baby lose his life simply because the cost of saving him was too high. His care has already started with an $8,000 estimate, and they know the road ahead will be long. But the veterinary team is seeing small signs of progress and believes Rocky has a chance at a full recovery. Rocky lost his home and everything he knew. Now, he needs you. Please help us give this brave little boy the chance he deserves. Every donation will help provide the emergency care keeping him alive. If you can't donate, please share his story. We promise to love Rocky through every step of his recovery. Hang on, Rocky. Your new beginning starts now. Thank you for your continued support.

Hoarding Case

Castaway Critters was met with another hoarding cat situation. They desperately need you!

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

Castaway Critters was recently contacted by a woman who recognized that she needed help and bravely reached out to Castaway Critters for support. First and foremost, they want to thank her for taking the right step. It takes courage to acknowledge that things have gotten out of hand and to ask for help before the situation becomes even worse. After seeing their other recent hoarding situation, she realized she didn't want her own animals to reach that point. She knew it was time to ask for help—and they are here to help both her and her cats. They are currently looking at 35–50 cats living in the home, including both kittens and adults. None of the cats have been spayed or neutered. Their plan is to safely remove and care for all of the cats while also helping the four senior cats she has loved and cared for their entire lives. Once they have been spayed/neutered and received the veterinary care they need, they will return them to her. They will also work with her to provide food and litter while she gets back on her feet. Some may question why they would return the senior cats, but they believe that helping the community is an important part of rescue. These cats are loved, and uprooting four senior animals who have spent their entire lives with their person isn't necessarily the best solution. If they can ensure they are healthy, fed, safe, and loved while helping their owner get back on her feet, that's a win for everyone. ❤️ This will be a massive team effort. They are organizing extraction teams and will move the cats out in phases. Their first phase began with the kittens. The kittens arrived with fleas, upper respiratory infections, worms, and infected eyes. They have all started antibiotics and are already getting cleaned up with a much-needed bath. There are still many more cats waiting, and they know this journey will be long, but it will be worth it. Your support makes it possible for Castaway Critters to keep showing up, one animal and one community at a time. Please remember to be kind. Everyone needs a little help sometimes, and they believe that offering compassion can change lives for both people and animals. Thank you for everything you have done for Castaway Critters and for continuing to stand beside us and them. We appreciate you more than words can say. At the end of the day, we all have the same goal: saving lives.

Hoarding Cats

This is the worst hoarding case Castaway Critters has seen.

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

What Castaway Critters walked into was something they'll never forget. Castaway Critters cats rescued 20+ cats and kittens from a home in Pennsylvania. The conditions were beyond heartbreaking. The home was infested with roaches, bed bugs, mice, fleas, ticks, and lice. The ammonia from years of waste was so overwhelming that their team had to wear HAZMAT suits and respirators just to enter safely. It was a scene of unimaginable neglect. Inside, frightened cats of all ages—from newborn kittens just 2 days old to senior cats over 10 years old —were doing their best to survive together in an environment no animal should ever endure. Now the real work begins. Every cat they rescued needs veterinary care, nutritious food, parasite treatment, and a safe place to heal. Some are in far worse condition than others, but every single one deserves a chance at a new life. Castaway Critters is desperately asking for your help. Your donation, no matter the size, will help provide emergency medical care, supplies, and the resources needed to get each one of these cats the life-saving care they need to heal and hopefully, find a loving home one day that will care for them properly. Together, we can turn a place of unimaginable suffering into the beginning of a brighter future for these cats. Thank you for standing with them.

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

At just 5 weeks old, baby Trigger weighs less than a pound—closer to the size of a 2- or 3-week-old kitten because of severe malnourishment. He was found covered in hundreds of fleas, so many that they had formed a thick brown mass of fleas and blood across his tiny body. It's a miracle he was still alive. Right now, Trigger is extremely weak. He can't stop shaking, and every ounce of strength he has is being used simply to keep fighting. Castaway Critters rushed him to the vet and the team worked around the clock to give him every possible chance to survive. We're asking for your help today. Your donation will provide emergency veterinary care, medications, flea treatment, supportive care, nutritious food, and everything Trigger needs as he battles for his life and to grow into a healthy, adult cat. Every dollar gives this tiny survivor a better chance at the future he deserves. Please help us show Trigger that his story doesn't end in a trash can. It ends surrounded by love, hope, and people who refused to give up on him.

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

Scout was found in Londonderry Twp at 11 pm, hunkered down outside all alone and petrified. She was taken to the emergency vet, but the finder was unable to keep her. Luckily, they had contacted Castaway Critters to care for her. When they walked into the emergency vet room, they were met with the saddest, most deserving big eyes. As soon as Scout saw them, it was as if she knew she was going to be ok. However, she has a long road of healing ahead. She is severely malnourished and underweight. She should weigh approximately 55 pounds but currently weighs about 27 and is very weak. She has fleas and ticks. She smells like the worst kind of stale urine. Her coat is dirty and very dull, and her nails are overgrown. She will need a slow refeed schedule and a boatload of diagnostics. They did not do that the first night because she was petrified of human touch as much as she wants to be accepting of it. If you can help Scout in any way, we would greatly appreciate it. No amount is too small. Thank you.

Help Us Give Miss Trina a Beautiful Life

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

When we first laid eyes on this gorgeous kitten, our hearts sank. She reminded us of another kitten we once fought desperately to save—lost, sick, exhausted, and seemingly ready to give up. It was as if little Miss Trina had stopped fighting and was simply waiting for someone to find her. This tiny Siamese kitten, estimated to be just 5 to 6 weeks old, was discovered all alone outside. Nearby, an adult cat watched over her, and we believe it may have been her mother. We are actively trying to bring her to safety too, because nobody gets left behind here. Miss Trina was found in heartbreaking condition. Her eyes were completely swollen shut with infection and pus. Her tiny body was covered in ticks. She was suffering from a severe upper respiratory infection and was so dehydrated and weak that she could barely move. She couldn't see, couldn't eat on her own, and had lost the energy that every kitten should have. Thankfully, a compassionate Good Samaritan found her just in time. Right now, Miss Trina is receiving intensive care. She is being syringe fed formula and HydroCare to keep her nourished, receiving fluids to combat dehydration, antibiotics to fight infection, and medicated eye treatments to give her the best chance of saving her sight. She spends most of her time curled up on a heating pad, resting and gathering strength for the long battle ahead. Every hour matters. While we have already seen small signs of improvement after just one night in rescue, Miss Trina still has a long road to recovery. Castaway Critters is committed to giving her every chance to survive and thrive, but the costs of emergency care, medications, supplies, quarantine protocols, and ongoing treatment add up quickly. If you can help, please consider making a donation. Every dollar helps provide lifesaving care for Miss Trina and other vulnerable animals who have nowhere else to turn. If donating isn't possible, sharing her story can be just as valuable.

Please support Castaway Critters in two back-to-back hoarding situations.

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

Castaway Critters is assisting with not one but two cat hoarding situations. About a month ago, they were contacted about a bunch of cats and kittens in someone's home. Another rescue was able to take some of the cats and Castaway Critters took the rest. They successfully took in a mother cat and 8 kittens. They are all very, VERY sick with severe URI's and eye infections. They were started on antibiotics, eye medications, and supportive care immediately. Not too long after, they were contacted by another rescue about over 30 cats and kittens in a trailer park that were all in need of medical care and being fixed. They took 10 kittens from that situation. They were polluted with fleas, had severe URI's, were emaciated, had ringworm, had severe eye infections, and are full of worms. These two hoarding projects, which include the medical rehab and getting them all ready to be adopted will cost approximately $5,000. Teamwork makes the dream work. When rescues pull together and help each other, we make a real difference in the lives of the animals that need us most. This is a MAJOR financial burden on top of 19 animals that now need care around the clock. With your help, these kittens will grow to be beautiful and loving pets but first, they need to heal and recover. Any donation of any amount would be greatly appreciated and put directly towards the medical needs of these precious souls. Thank you.

Tripp is barely 10 weeks old, and right now, he is fighting for his life. When Castaway Critters first rescued him, he was covered in ticks, severely emaciated, unable to stand, suffering from a ruptured eye pouring infection, a puncture wound in his chest, a broken sternum, and a shattered back leg that will eventually require amputation. We believe this tiny, tiny kitten was hit by a car and somehow survived. However, this is far too much for a kitten this young to have endured. Despite unimaginable pain, Tripp still fights. He still eats. He still bites to let us know he’s not giving up. Every 3-4 hours he is syringe fed, medicated, monitored, and wrapped in warm blankets while his little body tries to heal. These next critical days and weeks will determine whether his body can keep fighting. His emergency care, medications, diagnostics, surgeries, and ongoing treatment are overwhelming for the rescue organization, but giving up on him was NEVER an option. Please help us save Tripp. Every donation, share, comment, and prayer matters right now. This tiny “baby raptor” deserves the chance to grow up knowing love instead of pain.

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

Hootie came home. He does not have FIV or Leukemia — a huge blessing. But he’s still carrying the scars of survival. He has a fractured tooth, likely from being hit by a car. He’s anemic. He was covered in ticks and will likely be diagnosed with Lyme disease. He has a heart murmur and came home on a long list of medications. At 10 years old, Hootie should have been someone’s companion, someone’s snuggle buddy — not outside fighting to survive. Instead, he was left to fend for himself for who knows how long. Now, even though his space is small, it is safe. There is food. Water. A soft bed. Gentle hands. A place to rest his tired body and learn what love feels like again. While healing in quarantine, Hootie has worked up quite the appetite — and Castaway Critters is dangerously low on food for him and the 100+ animals in their care. After surviving starvation, parasites, and flea anemia, these animals deserve full bowls and nourishing meals. Food isn’t just comfort — it’s critical to their recovery. If you can help us restock their favorites and help cover the ongoing costs of Hootie's medical care, please consider donating. It’s believed they came from a hoarding situation, and tragically, they may be the only cats who made it out alive. Now safe with Castaway Critters, Valor & Vesta are beginning a long and painful road to recovery. Portions of their bodies are badly burned and wrapped in bandages. They require intensive pain management, frequent dressing changes, special creams, eye medications, clean air support, and specialized litter to reduce the risk of infection. It’s quite the undertaking, but Castaway Critters is committed to getting these two back to health. Through everything they’ve endured, they remain completely gentle and trusting, and will one day thrive in a loving home. One even shows signs of having had multiple litters before this tragedy. It’s clear life was not kind to them long before the fire. Their care will be extensive and costly, but they finally have a team determined to fight for them every step of the way. Castaway Critters is asking for help to cover ongoing medical treatment, supplies, medications, and follow-up care so these two warriors can heal safely and finally know love. Please help Castaway Critters cover spay & neuter costs for an overwhelming number of kitties.

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

Every week, Castaway Critters Rescue welcomes animals who didn’t ask to be born into uncertainty. Strays, abandoned pets, unexpected litters—each one is a reminder of how quickly the cycle can continue when spay and neuter isn’t accessible. Behind every rescue is a simple truth: prevention saves lives. When a cat is spayed or neutered, it doesn’t just help that one animal. It prevents countless future litters from entering overcrowded shelters. It reduces suffering, lowers euthanasia rates, and gives each rescued pet a better chance at a stable, healthy life. But these surgeries come at a cost—and for a rescue committed to doing things responsibly, those costs add up quickly. Castaway Critters Rescue is asking for your help to cover spay and neuter expenses so every animal in their care can be adopted safely and responsibly. Your donation goes directly toward these essential procedures and helps break the cycle of homelessness before it begins again. A small surgery can change everything. A small donation can save lives. Meet Alfredo: Neglected and skin stained from urine. Please help this sweetie!

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

A few days ago, this little guy was posted as found in the city of Harrisburg. Nobody came forward as the owner, so he was given to someone else. Everyone thought he would have a lovely ending. Turns out, he was BACK on the page as found AGAIN. After Castaway Critters spoke with a few people, they learned that he was allegedly tied outside 24/7. And there is a cat that apparently belongs to the same owner and begs for food in the neighborhood. They are currently trying to find the kitty. Alfredo is severely matted down to the skin. They are unsure how he is even able to walk without being in pain. His rear end was matted shut. His ears were full of thick fuzzy mats, and because of that, he isn't able to hear. He is NOT neutered. He is coughing. If he was tied outside for a long time, he could have some trachea damage. He was also FILTHY, dehydrated, and was very scared. They immediately got him bathed and shaved, which put so much relief on his face. However, underneath those mats, they found even more sadness. His skin was actually stained from urine. Urine burns on his underside and inside of his legs. He felt like a sheep the way his curly fur turned into a mat. His fur was so matted that it actually wrapped around his genitals. When he peed, the mats were absorbing it and just laying on his skin. This is absolutely heartbreaking, and if you can help support Alfredo to overcome this horrible abuse and get the medical attention and love he needs, Castaway Critters would be so grateful. He did not deserve this type of neglect. Thank you for your continued support.

This little guy was found by a good samaritan at the intersection of Nyes Rd & Locust Ln, hunkered down, scared to death! When the person got out to try to direct traffic and grab this floof ball, he ran up under his engine block! Thankfully, he was able to get pulled over to safety, get him into a box, and then contacted us to see if we were able to get him! Upon initial assessment, Castaway Critters found that: He is not microchipped He is covered in some type of black, sticky substance resembling diesel fuel or tar. He smells horrible. He is extremely friendly and grateful and wants to just eat and calm himself in a safe space! They are treating him for fleas, worms, and ear mites and will be monitoring him during his quarantine. We will be working on getting the sticky out of his fur and giving him a good bath! This is only what they know right now. Upon further examination, they could find more. Annie

Underweight and emaciated, Annie didn't deserve this treatment. Will you be her hero?

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

Annie didn’t always have that name. She came to Castaway Critters as “Grace,” a small 3.5-year-old Maltese taken as evidence in an active animal cruelty case. Because of that, much of her story must remain untold for now. When Annie arrived, she was emaciated and underweight, her tiny body buried beneath overgrown, matted fur. The mats were so severe they pulled tightly against her skin, trapping diarrhea and causing painful irritation. Her skin was neglected, her body fighting parasites, and she carried brutal injuries. She was frightened of everything—every sound, every movement—and when she felt overwhelmed, she would bite out of fear, simply trying to protect herself in a world that had not been kind. Annie’s journey is just beginning, and it will take time. She needs continued veterinary care, proper nutrition, grooming to relieve the discomfort of her matted coat, and patient rehabilitation to help her trust again. The cost of caring for a dog from such severe circumstances is significant, especially while her case remains ongoing. We are asking for your help to give Annie the future she deserves. Your donation will go directly toward her medical treatment, recovery, and the long process of helping her feel safe in the world again. Sweet Betty needs your help!

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

Betty was found sitting quietly at a stop sign when Castaway Critters was called to rescue her. She is only about a year old, but her body tells a much harder story. When she was found, Betty was severely emaciated, her small frame worn down from what appears to have been life as a breeder mom. She had painful bite wounds, a severe infection, and her teeth had been filed down. Her skin was inflamed with hot spots, and in her distress, she had chewed her own paw pads so badly that she could barely walk. And yet, Betty greets people with the sweetest spirit. Despite everything she has endured, she wiggles with excitement when someone comes near. Her little body tries so hard to show happiness, and her tiny underbite gives her the most endearing smile. She leans into gentle hands and looks up with trusting eyes, as if she still believes that kindness is coming. Betty is now safe, but her road to recovery will be long. She needs intensive veterinary care to treat her infections, heal her skin, manage her pain, and help her regain strength so she can walk comfortably again. For a dog so young who has already suffered so much, this care is essential to give her the life she deserves. We are asking for help to give Betty that chance. Veterinary treatment, medications, and supportive care add up quickly, and Castaway Critters cannot do it alone. Natasha Hasn't Known Love in a Long Time, Let's Show Her it Still Exists

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

We recently received a call from one of our partners asking for urgent help with one of the worst cases of neglect we’ve ever encountered. From the moment we heard her story, everyone at Castaway Critters knew we had to step in. This is Natasha. She is heartbreakingly thin—emaciated would almost be too generous a word. She moves slowly and is incredibly weak, but she’s still trying her best to walk on her own and give a small tail wag. After her initial veterinary visit, we learned that Natasha is around six years old and spayed, but she is a devastating 30 pounds underweight. She should weigh at least 90 pounds and currently weighs 60, with no muscle left on her body. On top of her starvation, she is battling Lyme disease, intestinal blockages, and severe ear and skin infections. She has also been chronically dehydrated for so long that her heart has begun to shrink. Her condition required immediate hospitalization, and her first visit resulted in medical bills totaling more than $8,000. We are doing everything we can to give this sweet girl the care she desperately needs. She is trying so hard, but she still faces a long road of medical treatment and recovery. Right now, she struggles to show interest in food, something her body urgently needs to regain strength. We’ve been coaxing her with rotisserie chicken and potatoes, but it hasn’t been enough. She has since received a feeding tube so she can slowly learn to rely on food again. Despite everything she’s endured, Natasha continues to learn to trust. She is incredibly affectionate and even closes our laptops to get pets with both hands (A terrible coworker if you ask us 😂). She has learned to enjoy walks and will pace excitedly to the kennel door when she sees our staff coming. She loves exploring outside, sniffing everything she can, including goose poop, and each day, more of her personality begins to emerge. With time, care, and your support, we believe Natasha can regain her strength and rediscover the playful, happy dog she was always meant to be. Every dollar donated helps cover the overwhelming medical costs we’ve already incurred and the care she still needs. Natasha has been failed by humans before. Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

From the moment Castaway Critters found him, weak and trembling, one thing was clear—Uno is incredibly friendly. Even in pain, he leaned into every gentle touch, desperate for affection and hope. He just wants love, and he gives it freely. But Uno is facing a battle he can’t win alone. His vet believes he may have gotten into rat poison, and on top of that, he’s struggling with toxoplasmosis—something they’re fighting with 30 days of intense antibiotic treatment in hopes this terrible infection can be flipped. Uno’s treatments, bloodwork, supportive care, and medications are already adding up quickly. When Castaway Critters first found Dart, he was in a state that’s hard to even imagine—an arrow had pierced through his head. There was no way this sweet boy could be left to suffer on his own. He was immediately rushed to Harrisburg Area Animal Hospital, where an emergency surgery was performed to remove the arrow and clean his wounds. The team and caring veterinarians acted fast, and Dart is now post-surgery, receiving round-the-clock wound care and antibiotics to prevent infection. Despite everything he’s endured, Dart’s gentle spirit continues to shine. Their staff lovingly call him an “A+ Biscuit Maker”—he kneads and purrs as if he’s never known pain. Castaway Critters Rescue saw a picture posted on FindToby about a cat begging for help to get inside. So the next day, one of their volunteers and fosters picked him up in Etters. This poor guy is named Rafiki. He has cauliflower ears, most likely from an untreated, horrendous ear infection. The mats are also so thick on him that it is uncomfortable for him to be pet or picked up. They are working on getting him situated at their medical sanctuary, and then they will get him groomed and get those mats shaved. He will then meet the vet and have those adorably sad little ears evaluated. He is INCREDIBLY sweet. He wants love in the worst way. He has a LOUD voice and a lot to say! No more outside. No more pain. No more begging. This rescue heard his cry for help and did not hesitate. He is now safe and already loved so much. Will you be a part of Rafiki's healing journey? He was in desperate need of love and proper care and will finally be receiving it, but it comes at no small cost. Please donate any amount today to help this sweet boy. Thank you!

Meet Castaway Critter's newest rescue, Jane. Yes, they named her in honor of Jane Goodall. 🩷A good samaritan found her outside in the Lower Paxton/Linglestown area and brought her in,and then called this rescue for advice. They sent her right to their emergency vet for care. What they know so far: 💜 She is 10. 💜 She is deaf. 🦻 💜 She is very thin, dehydrated, and has a ROARING upper respiratory infection that has her incredibly weak. She should make a full recovery as long as she fights and hangs in there. Her foster Mama has her in the bathroom, doing routine steam outs with hot water from the shower and a buffet of food. She received an antibiotic injection, tested negative for FIV/FELV, received flea and tick meds, and got a bag of subcutaneous fluids. Please keep her on your hearts. She has a long way to go, but we are so glad she is in good care and hanging on. Castaway Critters is caring for many cats, and they desperately need your help with Jane's vet bills. Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

At Castaway Critters rescue, love and dedication run deep for their animals. But as of lately, it has been one of the hardest they’ve ever faced. It started when a rescued litter of orange kittens unknowingly brought in Feline Panleukopenia—also known as feline distemper—a highly contagious and often fatal viral disease, especially dangerous to kittens. At the same time, a group of black-and-white kittens arrived battling upper respiratory infections. Quickly, the rescue was in crisis, and the disease began to spread. The caretakers refused to give up. For 72 straight hours, they stayed awake, administering subcutaneous fluids, medications, and round-the-clock care, desperately trying to save every single life. Tragically, a few preciou kittens that were just brought in didn’t make it—but there are still others fighting to survive. Now, Castaway Critters is facing mounting medical bills for treatments, supplies, and ongoing care. These kittens are relying on us—on you—to keep fighting alongside them. Tiny, Blind, and Still Full of Love–Skittle is Fighting for a Future

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

At just 8 weeks old, Skittle should be chasing toys and curling up for long kitten naps. Instead, she’s fighting for her sight—and her life. A kindhearted stranger found her filthy, crawling with fleas, and heartbreakingly thin. She weighed just 0.8 pounds—so small you could feel every vertebra in her spine. Her eyes were shockingly swollen, infected, and filled with pus within moments of cleaning. The vet says there’s a 99% chance she will be completely blind. Castaway Critters is clinging to the slim hope that one eye can be saved, but it’s unlikely. Skittle will almost certainly need surgery to remove both damaged eyes, with a projected cost of $2,000. His lip, covered in sores and ulcers, hung open, making it painful to eat or groom. The vet says Pixel will need a procedure under sedation to remove the dead skin and suture his lip closed. For now, he’s on Clavamox to fight the infection, but he’s not out of the woods yet. Pixel is gentle, trusting, and grateful for every ounce of kindness he’s shown. Fearing a foreign body, they rushed him to the vet for tests. What they found was shocking. Meet Margarita: A Tiny Fighter with a Huge Heart

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

This sweet cat named Margarita was horrifically thrown outside by it's owner and cried outside their home for 3 long weeks. She rapidly began losing fur and weight and had to find cover for herself during storms in the area the past couple of weeks. When Castaway Critters was contacted, they quickly threw a crew together for an emergency extraction. What's worse is that this is a special needs cat who has already endured serious trauma as a kitten. She was born in a barn, and the mother cat had chewed Margarita's back left paw off, leaving her with an untreated and exposed wound. Upon intake, she weighed in at a devastatingly 4.3 pounds. Before Castaway Critters saved her, poor Margarita had never been inside a veterinary office, which means no proper medical care, vaccinations, and has not been spayed. Margarita, or any other cats, do not deserve this kind of neglect and abuse. The crew of Castaway Critters sat in the ER with her to save her life. Who knows how much time she had left. Your donation today will go directly towards Margarita's emergency care and ongoing medical treatments to ensure she makes a full recovery and, eventually, finds a loving home who will not neglect her. Peppercorn Has the Worst Mouth His Vet Has Ever Seen: Please Help Him Heal

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

Sweet Peppercorn was dumped outside amongst a feral colony of cats in Harrisburg city. A foster feeding the kitties noticed he was severely emaciated and took him to the vet. The vet said his mouth was the worst she had ever seen and told the foster that he needed a full mouth extraction. However, his bloodwork has shown severe anemia, which won't allow him to have this procedure until his numbers come up. He’s currently on special food that costs $85/case that helps nourish his body. He has to have monthly blood checks and daily medications, which cost hundreds of dollars. A full mouth extraction will cost Castaway Critters about $1,500. Peppercorn is so sweet and deserves to have this extraction so he can fully live out his life in a healthy way. Update 3/19 Peppercorn recently had a rather expensive biopsy and ultrasound on a mass in his mouth. It hasn't been confirmed yet, but the vet is almost positive this poor baby has cancer that is going down his throat. He's on steroids to continue getting his iron levels back up. The vet has prescribed antibiotics so he can be cleared for a dental procedure. He has the worst mouth Castaway Critter's vet has ever seen, and it's uncomfortable for him to eat. He had almost given up—until a kindhearted person scooped him up and rushed him to the emergency room. Thanks to immediate medical intervention and two weeks of intensive treatment, Elvis began to turn a corner and went to his foster home, where he lives with his foster mom and foster siblings. Amazingly, Elvis is now a happy, curious kitten who’s ready for a fresh start. Tucker was found in a box with several other kittens along a highway in York, Pa. The person who took him to the emergency vet requested to euthanize him because he was the runt and looked "sickly." He had a prolapsed rectum, extreme diarrhea, fleas, and was underweight. Fortunately, the vet tech did not allow this and reached out to Castaway Critters. It was not hard for them to say, "Yes!" to this adorable baby. Tucker need a lot of TLC and medications, but he is stable and gaining weight. Tucker and Elvis met face-to-face after living in the same house for a couple weeks of quarantining. Since Elvis is shy and Tucker is outgoing and playful, Tucker has become his emotional support friend! They love playing and spending time together. With medical bills from both kittens stacking up, we need your help to cover the cost of their care. Please consider giving today to help offset the cost of Elvis' and Tucker's treatment. We can't thank you enough for your continued support and for giving us the ability to help as many cats like this as possible!

Please Help This Christmas Kitty Fully Heal

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

Daisy, a sweet 2-year-old brown and white tabby, was found just days before Christmas by one of Castaway Critter's fosters while feeding a colony of stray cats in Harrisburg, Pa. This brave kitty had a severely injured tail—completely degloved, with a portion already missing. The remaining nub was dangerously close to infection, and Daisy was at high risk of sepsis. Without hesitation, the foster scooped her up and rushed her to the vet, where it was determined that her tail needed immediate amputation to save her life. In addition to the surgery, Daisy received her vaccinations and necessary medications to help her on the road to recovery. Daisy has come a long way since her surgery and after having her stitches removed, she has healed up great. Furthermore, Castaway Critters needs your help to cover the significant medical expenses that have accumulated. Your donations will go directly toward covering Daisy’s life-saving surgery and ongoing care so she can start a new, healthy life. Thank you!

Help 13-Year-Old Melody Enjoy Her Golden Years in Comfort and Love

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

Melody’s story began in a church parking lot, where she was found as a tiny kitten. A kind woman took her home, and for years, Melody lived as a beloved solo companion, soaking up all the love and attention from her 92-year-old Mama. But life took a heartbreaking turn in December when her Mama had to be placed in a nursing home. Overwhelmed with worry about what would happen to her cherished cat, Melody’s Mama desperately sought help. Many rescues turned them away, but Castaway Critters couldn’t ignore their plea. They stepped in without hesitation, determined to ensure Melody’s story didn’t end tragically. Now around 13 years old, Melody is adjusting to her new life, but she has special needs that require ongoing care. She suffers from a skin condition and needs weight management food, which costs about $100 per month. In addition, regular senior blood panels are essential to monitor her health, costing between $300 and $500 annually. Melody is a gentle, sweet soul who deserves to live out her golden years in comfort and love. With your help, we can give her the care she needs and find her the perfect forever home where she’ll be treasured once again. Your donation could make a world of difference for Melody. Please Help Amelia Get Out of Critical Care

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

Amelia’s journey began on the streets of Harrisburg, PA, where a Good Samaritan found her in a heartbreaking condition. This poor girl was covered in fleas, with pus oozing from her eyes and nose, and so weak she couldn’t even stand. Amelia was rushed to safety and diagnosed with a severe upper respiratory infection (URI). At first, things seemed to improve, but just as hope began to grow, her condition took a devastating turn for the worse. Amelia is now admitted to Shores Veterinary Hospital, battling severe anemia and receiving critical care that may require a blood transfusion. Her current treatment includes IV antibiotics, fluids, and round-the-clock care from dedicated professionals. Veterinarians are exploring the possibility that she may be positive for FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), a diagnosis that would require costly treatment ranging from $1,000 to $3,000. Combined with her current care, her medical expenses are estimated to exceed $8,000. Amelia deserves a chance to recover, heal, and experience the love and warmth of safety and a forever home. Your donation could be the difference between life and death for Amelia. Please consider contributing to her care today. Every dollar counts, and together, we can give her the second chance she so desperately needs. Thank you for helping us fight for Amelia’s life.
