Shock

Shock is a 3 year old Mix-Breed in Wichita, KS, who needs $350 for Urethral Catheterization.

Wichita, KS

At only 3 weeks old Shock came to us with his siblings and mom after being left in a crate in front of the HQ building for the rescue I worked for. We took the whole family in as a foster family and ended up falling in love with him, so naturally he joined our family of 6 at the time. He’s been the sweetest, most loving cat, and we really don’t know what we’d do without him. Shock has gone through it, recently he was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, pemphigus Complex, which is an umbrella term for a group of diseases that cause his body to attack the top layer of his skin. Shortly after we got that under control Shock started showing signs of a urinary blockage. We rushed him to the vet where he spent the next 5 days being in the hospital. Shock is the most loving well rounded kitty I’ve ever met. He hasn’t met a soul, human or animal, that he hasn’t become friends with. The vet staff hes met love him, and so does anyone else who has the pleasure of meeting this little guy. He loves to play, he loves to soak in the sun, and especially he loves his cat trees. 5 days in the hospital, one being an overnight at an emergency clinic, adds up. The total bill equals almost $1000, which is a huge unexpected expense, especially after having to spend so much to get the autoimmune disease diagnosed and treated. Any help would be appreciated

Pita

Pita is a 7 Year Old Australian Shepherd in Wichita, KS, Who Needs $1,500 for Coughing.

Wichita, KS

Pita had a natural birth and was brought home at 7 weeks of age. He has stayed current on vaccinations, vet checks and annual use of heartworm prevention. Pita enjoys going to the dog park and playing fetch. Pita has been struggling with excessive thirst and urination for 6 months. His bloodwork and urinalysis has been normal, but needs to be rechecked. His x-rays appear to be normal despite a periodic coughing. The vet feels there is maybe some concern with one side of his lungs. The hope is to address his pu/pd and then see if steroids would help his cough. Pita is an active dog who still loves to cuddle. From the start he has always wanted to have his head on your lap for pets. He craves pets so much that he will push his head into your hand non-stop until you provide it! With increasing living prices, a car accident that resulted in having to buy a new vehicle, a job change due to demotion AND needing to moving within the last month I am struggling to come up with funds for vet care.

Lily

Lily is a 3 month old American Shorthair in Wichita, KS, who needs $4,000 for Intensive Care Hospitalization.

Wichita, KS

Lily did not get a fair start to life. I found her in the dumpster at just 4 weeks old, fighting an upper respiratory infection, fleas, and worms. After treatment, and round the clock bottle feedings, she received her first set of vaccines at 8 weeks old. Unfortunately, Lily was unlucky enough to catch panleukopenia despite receiving her first FVRCP just 5 days before she was supposed to receive her second booster. She needed 6 days of intensive care hospitalization at the Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Wichita. Lily is such a snuggly little cat. She loves to play with her puppy brother, and ambush you when you aren't looking. But when she isn't playing, she is sleeping on your chest and meowing for attention. Lily received care for 6 days, receiving around the clock antibiotics, vitamins, stomach protectants, nausea medicine, daily bloodwork, vitals, and much more. Her bill is almost $4,000. I was denied scratchpay and carecredit, and need financial assistance.

Ledger is a 14 year old Miniature Schnauzer in Hutchinson , KS, who needs $2,000 for Surgery to Remove Cancer and Rib Di-section.

Hutchinson, KS

Ledger, what can I say? He is my buddy, my baby, and my soul dog. A valentine's present given by my husband in 2011, we went to the pet store "just to look". After spending 2 mins with this ball of fur, and I couldn't imagine my life without him. For 14 years he has brought so much happiness to our family. In July of 2024 he was diagnosed with cancer. The vet thought she got it all. She didn't. It has come back more agressively and if not removed, vet says it will rupture and take his life. This carcenoma is pushing into his rib which will eventually cause him pain. 14 years is not enough. He still has so much life in him. We are not ready to say goodbye. Ledger is the light of our little family. He has virtually grown up with our daughter and he means everything to her. He is also a "big brother" to our 5 year old Shih Tzu. Ledger hasn't taught Obi everything yet. He needs more time. In 2022 my daughter and husband both became disabled. I am currently the only person in my home able to work. After a legal battle, my husband was able to get on Social Security, my daughter's case is still ongoing. New surgery needed and we are out of money.

Lucky

Lucky is a 7 year old Siamese in Wichita, KS, who needs $1,000 for Urinary Issues.

Wichita, KS

This is my cat Lucky. While I was shadowing at a clinic for school hours, he came in with a urinary blockage. His previous family was unable to pay to unblock him, so they surrendered him and I took him in. Before this, he was in the shelter and multiple homes. He has been in my care ever since. Lucky has not been the luckiest cat. He has had multiple urinary blockages that has resulted in him getting a PU surgery. This surgery rerouted his urinary tract and makes him urinate like a girl. He has been doing great up until this point. He all of a sudden stopped eating and stopped urinating. He is being hospitalized at Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Wichita. Lucky loves to make biscuits, roll in the sun and sunbathe, lay with his grandma (one of his favorite people in the whole world), eat kibble, and play with his mom (me). He loves to give kisses and be a little sassy as well. Since this came on so suddenly, and as a young woman just trying to make it, any help would be appreciated. It would mean the absolute world to me to have Lucky back home. I want to give him a wonderful and a healthy life since he was not dealt a good hand at the start.

Charlotte was brought to the Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita after being hit by a car. She was in early shock upon arrival and had suffered from head trauma, pelvic fractures, and a full-thickness wound on her medial hindlimb. The medical team is also monitoring her closely for potential pulmonary contusions, given the circumstances of her injury. Charlotte has been a great dog. She is currently on restrictions until her pelvis heals and then will require surgery to have a FHO done in the future. Charlotte has fit right into her foster home. Overall, she is not just a companion but a truly special member of the family. Any and all help is greatly appreciated to help cover her expenses.

Cosmo came into my life when my mom told me that her friend was selling puppies. She was thinking of me and how much i was devastated when my pet tortoise of 8 years unexpectedly passed on. She wanted to make sure i was not alone so she let me know about the puppies. When i went to pick him out, he was the first one to come to me so i knew that he would be my new buddy. When i came home from work Wednesday, i noticed he had been vomiting and just not being his typical puppy self. My normal vet told me to take him up to UrgentVet when they open on Thanksgiving. They told me that he had a blockage in his gut area and that it cant pass naturally so a surgery will have to be in order. They directed me to Vet Emergency in Wichita Cosmo is a lover. All he wants to do is eat, play, explore, and give kisses to whatever he can get his tongue on. He has no mean bone in his body. My closest friends and family can all attest to his friendly nature. He helps keep me grounded as a person and is a constant reminder to be as loving as he is. I live by myself and primarily have to do everything by myself. I only took him in because i just started getting a consistent enough pay to take care of him and i but the cost of surgery is out of reach for me

Wichita, KS

I adopted Petra as a puppy, a reject from service work, and she has been my faithful companion through many tumultuous life changes as we have tried to better our circumstances. She is my only pet, though she is especially fond of cats. Just days ago I brought my first child home from the hospital to meet her big sister and careful guardian Petra! Almost as soon as I arrived home from the hospital with my new baby, Petra became unwell. She was first seen at All Creatures Veterinary Hospital and was referred to Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital for emergency surgery to remove a foreign body obstruction from her small bowel. Dr. MJ Soula performed the life-saving surgery on my special girl. Petra is the most intriguing dog I’ve ever known. She is so linguistically inclined, she quickly learned to tap my hands to respond yes and no, and growls when she’s happy (the louder, the more emphatic her response is to questions). She is extremely careful with my newborn, and loves her extended family very much. Petra has been the motivation for my survival many a time. This was a life or death situation for Petra, who I literally owe my life. Unfortunately, I am still dealing with the fallout of past financial abuse, a multi-year divorce, and much more recently the birth of a long-hoped-for child. I’ve exhausted all resources.

Wichita, KS

Princess, Chihuahua, was given to us from a friend. Princess came into our lives in August of 2024. We had rescued another dog (part Pit and something else) from someone who was not able to care for him. Princess and Tux had a rough start at first. he was pretty jealous. They get a long great now. Princess choose her name. That was the name she responded to the most. Princess was diagnosed with Parvo on October 27, 2024. we took her to the VESH. This was on a Sunday. We are a paycheck-to-paycheck family and I decided that we would be okay to take her home and follow up with Vetco on Monday. Which we did. After the Vetco visit she was okay. However, later that night she would not hold up her head. She is now hospitalized at VESH. Princess was a gift to our family. In reality mostly to me. I lost my dog Delilah (part Chihuahua) due to her being hit by a vehicle. I took it extremely hard. Delilah passed away in my arms before I could get her help. She is my baby and goes with me everywhere I can take her. She makes me laugh and comforts me when I need it. She has a favorite toy (shown in pic) my cousin's daughter gave her. We are on a fixed income. I have some help but I worry it will not be enough. It would be everything to me to be able to have princess healthy and given every chance to live. She is my everything and I cant imagine a life without her snuggled up next to me or Jason.

Our roommates dog also attacked his owner, unfortunately he is no longer with us. Samson has some severe wounds to his neck that will need to be explored. This is going to be a LONG recovery process for him. But we are going to continue to fight along side with him! I have applied for Care Credit & Scratch Pay, denied for both. August came into our lives when he was brought into the emergency vet hospital where I work for a serious brain injury from being stepped on (he was such I tiny puppy.) I brought him home as a foster, and it quickly became a foster fail. August is the friendliest little pup. He loves to play with the other animals in the house. But his closest bonds are with my 8 year old grandson and my 5 year old granddaughter. He’s so happy when they’re here, and he cries at the door for a long time when they leave. He became a foster fail for a reason. He’s so happy and full of life and personality. August is a dancer. He likes to get your attention and love by approaching you on his hind legs and doing a little two-legged waggle dance. All with a huge smile on his face. It first started out that he chewed up a Christmas stocking and we found chewed up paper towels. August wouldn’t stop regurgitating. X-rays and bloodwork came back normal. We ran a cpl it was abnormal. Pancreatitis. Endoscopy showed ulcers and irritation in his throat and stomach. He is being hospitalized in the hopes we can get him to feel better. This year I was diagnosed with a brain tumor, had unexpected brain surgery, had radiation therapy done on my brain, and spent many months unable to work. My family has been through so much this year, and it hurts my heart to see our sweet August sick like this.

Meet Junie! Junie presented to Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital with a concern of ingesting a fish hook. The finder stated that they found him running down the street with a fishing pole. Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital started with radiographs and there was a fish hook. It was stuck in his esophagus!!! Junie needed a rescue to commit to his care as he presented as a stray. This bright eyed puppy is actually in a ton of pain and was at risk of being euthanized if a rescue was not able to step to save his life. He is only 4 months old and has had a fish hook lodged in his esophagus for over 24 hours. Junie was just out and exploring like puppies do and had no idea what he was getting himself into. Always and Furever Midwest Animal Sanctuary stepped up initially for stabilization until another rescue was able to take him on. Stray Rescue of St. Louis ended up taking this baby in under their rescue. The doctor at Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita tried to remove the fishhook with an endoscope (which has a camera & retrieval devices) but was not successful in retrieving it. Due to this Junie then required to have emergency surgery. This is would be a procedure that most veterinarians would not attempt. However, everyone was going to continue to fight for Junie. Everyone worked together to figure out how to transport and a specialist that was comfortable with performing this procedure. This will be a huge task but nothing we can't accomplish if we all work together. Please please help donate and share her story. Rescues are only able to continue to help save lives with the help of donors.

She lives in the home with myself and Buddy. Buddy is her puppy (he's 7) She has a nice fenced yard and lots of toys. She will throw the toy up in the air and catch it herself if no one throws it for her...but I usually do! She has two housemates–myself and another dog, called Buddy. (7 years old) She tolerates Buddy most of the time...she will growl at him when he tries to lick her teeth! She growls whe whole time he's doing it --but she still just sits there...so it's not much of a protest! (haha) HoneyBear is friendly and enjoys jumping and playing...her and Buddy wrestle contantly. usually:( HoneyBear and I have a special Bond that starrted the day I found her. Anyone who knows me, knows that she is the center of my world. I literally have no idea who I am without her. As I keep telling everyone...if she could just live another 30 years I'm positive I could teach her to talk! She's so smart it's scary! HoneyBear needs Cruciate surgery to restore her use of her leg. She will occasionally use the leg but it causes her pain, so she lifts the leg and carries it 90% of the time. I asked HoneyBears Doctor if he thought she was too old for surgery…he told me “age is just a number” and I agree. HoneyBears need for surgery came as a surprise to me. The CCL diagnosis is an expensive surgery. I'm using all of my savings, and asking friends and family for donations.

German Shepherd Rescue of Iowa was able to take her in but is needing help with the bill. Clementine is a very happy puppy despite everything that she is currently going through. She is interested in playing with others. Clementine is initially being fostered by one of the technicians that help take care of her during her hospital stay. She will have exposure to other animals and people during this time. How can anyone not fall in love with that sweet little face?!?! German Shepherd Rescue of Iowa immediately welcomed her to their rescue and can not want to have her transported to them to start her journey to her forever home! Clementine has not let this slow her down and is recovering well from this. Clementine presented with wounds to her hind limb, more than 10 open wounds on her leg! They were 2-3 mm, which was highly infected. Initially there were concerns about the leg possibly being broken due to the crepitus that was found and the amount of swelling that was there upon presentation. She required sedation, radiographs & wound management. Radiographs revealed that the limb was not broken The German Shepherd of Iowa Rescue was able to commit to Clementine to make sure that she gets the care that she is needing. And then to find her a fur-ever home! It will take some time for Clementine to recover from this.

Wichita, KS

Reba is very special to the owner. Reba is very loving, loyal and gentle with both people and other animals. Her owner stated that she is her constant and only companion. And is trying to do everything possible for them right now. Not only are they having to deal with Reba being sick and requiring hospitalization, but they have lost everything at home. Reba is a happy dog. She loves her family and is very loyal. Despise being hurt and requiring medical care, she still wants to check in on her family to make sure that they are okay. Reba likes everyone, humans and other animals. Reba has been given a guarded prognosis but she is a fighter and we are all hoping she can pull through this! Reba and her owner's house burned down on Monday night. Reba was found unresponsive and had to be revived by the fire department. Reba is what woke the owner up during the middle of the night to let her know that the house was on fire. She saved her owners life! Not only is she her companion she is her guard dog! Reba is very special to the owner. Since being found in the housefire, Reba has required medical treatment. She has been coughing a lot. Today she started having blood in her water bowl. Her owner rushed her to the veterinary emergency hospital for around the clock care. Reba is requiring hospitalization for the next 2-3 days, supplemental oxygen support, IV fluids, and medical management. Reba and her owner just lost everything in their house fire the other night. They are going to have to figure out everything and rebuild from here. Her family needs her to get better and back with them while they are trying to figure things out!

Wichita, KS

Shae Amorette came to the Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Witchita (VESHW) in need of a holiday miracle! Animal control discovered Shae covered in wounds. Officers brought her to VESHW, where Shae had seven puppies! If the family had been left out in the cold, they would have likely all died. The veterinary team went to work fixing Shae's gaping injuries and giving her puppies round-the-clock care. No one came forward to claim or rescue the family. The medical care Shae needed was above the amount the city could afford. Now the hospital is hoping for two more holiday miracles: To raise enough money to cover the family's medical bill and for a rescue to offer them a fantastic new start in 2023. "Shae has been doing wonderful with being a new mom," Tori P., with the animal hospital, tells Waggle. "She has never shown any signs of aggression towards staff. It is now time for her to have her happy story and find a great home that will provide her with what she deserves and needs for life!"

Blackie is a 11-year-old Shorthair Cat in Valley Center, KS, who needs $1,750 for Oral Surgery for Acquired Palatal Defect and Enucleation.

Valley Center, KS

Blakie came into our lives 9 years ago. A stray cat showed up on our door step yowling. I told my daughter she could feed it a can of tuna. 2 days later that same cat showed up with 4 little kittens. I went an bought a bag of cat food. We were living in a rental with a mouse problem and Mama Cat brought me a dead mouse. And that is how we got a cat. My daughter named her Blackie. Blackie and my daughter have been best friends ever since. She has also been my study buddy while I earned my degree in Nursing and foot warmer on cold winter nights. We also have my son's dog, Easton and they tolerate each other, but whenever I walk Easton she follows along. She has been out constant faithful and loving companion. Blackie has always been an indoor/outdoor cat and makes her rounds through the neighborhood (I let all the neighbors know she belongs to us and is well taken care of) Everyone knows how sweet and loving she is. She greets the next door neighbor every morning when he leaves for work. She did try convincing one neighbor she was starving and pregnant. I think he still gives her treats. We were dog sitting, the dog broke out of her cage and attacked Blackie. The dog had gotten hold of her face and broke her hard palate and damaged her eye. She is back home but without surgery food goes through the roof of her mouth and into her respiratory tract. She will have her mouth repaired and her eye removed. I am a single mom. Unexpected electrical repairs last spring and the Emergency Vet Bill have wiped my savings. The estimate for the surgery is $3500. Surgery will keep her well and able to love on us for years to come.

"I'm a single mom of five children, and I can't come up with $4,000 to fix our baby," Jeniffer says. "Our hearts are shattered because we can't get our sweet boy the help he needs. His birthday is next month, and it would mean the world to us to see our baby get help." Chico adores his family dearly, and they miss him. "He waits at the window every day for the kids to get home from school," Jeniffer says. "He sleeps beside the children's beds with his favorite blanket and toy. He loves his family very much, and we love him." Please help Chico get the care he needs!

Mew is a 1-year-old Domestic Medium Hair cat in Wichita, KS, who needs $1,000 for diagnostic testing.

Wichita, KS

Mew has been an important member of our family for roughly a year and a half. We helped a friend looking to home some kittens and mew seemed instantly attached to our family. At first he was so tiny he needed help getting in the litter box and would meow to snuggle under the covers. He was so sweet he fit right in. Mew loves to sit on the balcony and watch the neighbors. He also likes to snuggle and play with our sons fake fish on his fishing rod. He’s usually pretty mellow unless he feels like zooming around late at night. He loves to snuggle with his blanket at night and will lick and knead it. He’s very curious about other creatures and loves to sneak up and boop dogs and run away. Sadly this was an unexpected expense we need help with. We are a single income family. Please help my kitty so my son doesn’t lose his best friend. Any help is appreciated. We plan on following up with a regular vet once he’s better and investing in pet insurance. Recently mew hasn’t been eating well and is breathing a little harshly. We had him seen 4/5/21 and they’re not sure what is causing his condition. The veterinarians diagnostics included several tests such as blood, snap and x rays. Our hearts break to see our kitty sick and miss his fun loving side. My son and mew often chase each other around. He likes to randomly pop out and tap you and run away. He can be funny or moody, but usually he just likes to be around us and cuddle. He’ll sit and watch me cook in hopes he gets a bite. Our love for mews grown strong. He is definitely part of our little family.

This is a sudden unexpected major expense that we cannot afford my husband is the only one working I myself am a stay at home mom, we five kids that will greatly be heartbroken if we had to make an alternate decision due to this major expense & would mean a lot to have her I’m looking for help because Mona developed a pancreatic infection which has caused her not to be able to eat or drink she is currently at the Veterinary Emergency and specialty Hospital of Wichita Kansas. She got admitted on January 28, 2021 and is still in there. I spoke with the doctor this morning and apparently she’s having trouble urinating and could possibly have cancer in her bladder. Even though Mona was a gift for the kids I am her favorite person. She makes me happy when she greets me every time I come home, she’s playful with the kids and loves to play in the snow, and is not a big fan of rain. Nemo is a German Shepherd puppy in Park City, KS, who needs $2,000 for radiographs and frequent custom splints due to growth.

Park City, KS

Nemo came into my life while working my shift at the veterinary emergency hospital. He was a four-week old baby who was owner surrendered from a backyard breeding situation due to a malformed front leg. I took him home that night as a medical foster due to him needing formula-fed and needing a little extra TLC. I ended up foster failing him as he has become my heart dog. He loves water. He will run in the bathroom as I get ready every morning and jump in the bathtub for me to turn the water on for him to play in. He has two doggy siblings. His coonhound sister, Joon, took him in as her baby instantly and is protective of him. His German Shorthair Pointer brother, Apollo, is his play buddy. Those two will run around the backyard for hours together. Being a foster failure, I knew there would be expenses but did not expect his treatment to be years long and need re-peat radiographs as often as he is needing them due to setbacks and road bumps in his recovery. Being on a limited salary I am struggling to afford his care. Nemo was surrendered due to a malformed leg. After radiographs at the Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Wichita with Dr. Smith and Dr. Davis we learned his humerus was broken and his ligaments were tight and holding his leg in a cramped position due to the long neglect of the break as a neonate. Nemo has been my sidekick from day I brought him home. He loves drive-thrus as he knows he usually gets a pup-cup or snack. He will start hitting the window button on the car door to stick his head out to give his biggest puppy eyes. He is the smartest puppy I have ever met;having learned sit, down and stay before 8 weeks old. He gets the 3 legged zoomies whenever we come home.

I came across Bear from Heartstrings animal advocates. You see, Bear hasn't only been saved this time, but he has been saved twice before. He came from Amarillo, Texas as his first owners had dumped him. He spent a few months in a shelter there and the day he was suppose to be put down, he got picked up and brought to Kansas. I found him and gave him a safe home. It's been a perfect match since! Bear has been my everything since day one. He has a couple doggie siblings who absolutely adore him. Hes always down to snuggle or play. He is a mommas boy. We have to snuggle every night and hes is there when I'm sad to cheer me up. He loves to play with my boyfriends daughter in the yard chasing and pouncing on her. I have put forth more then I can truly afford, but I am not ready to give up on Bear. Hes is more then I could ask for. I am reaching my limit on what I can give and needing help! Bear only has one downfall. Bear tends to eat things he shouldn't. For some reason Bear loves to eat mulch and sticks. This go around he had a blockage of sticks, grass, and hair. The hair and sticks caused lacerations to his intestine. He is at Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital being treated by Dr. Smith. I consider Bear my emotional support. He provides me the attention I need to help reduce anxiety and depression. He always manages to be dorky to but a smile on your face, weather its blowing bubbles in the pool, climbing on your shoulders, or just sitting next to you watching tv. When we go to the dog park hes the dog that all the dogs want to play with. He has such an amazing personality.

SHARPY!! Sharpy is the offspring of Twitters. Sharpy and her sister Whispers, were not able to find a new home. Thus, we're all living happily together. They've all been healthy and happy. Until, one day.... My name is Mitchell and my sister and I have 4 cats. Sharpy is the "Golden Girl"! She get along with anything and everyone. Sharpy is our favorite cat. She's a one-of-a-kind. If my sister is crying, she comes to her and will lick her face and purr. All feels better! Mama Cat is sometimes mean to Sharpy, so they are kept apart. Sharpy likes to ride behind my neck with her legs and paws hanging over my shoulder. What a character! She and her sister love to play ball together and race for the mini bouncy ball! My sister and I both live on disability, so we live on a very fixed income. We have no car and were saving our Stimulus towards getting one. So glad, we could use some of it to get Sharpy well. It took a lot more $ than we had saved up but she was our kid. Our CHILD! Titters was taken to Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital, in Wichita KS. Sharpie, who usually is playful and loving, stayed by herself and was taken sick. We knew $ was going to be an issue. She was diagnosed with a Thoracic Back Injury (cat jumped on her back) as well as Pyometritis, a ruptured uterus. Emergency surgery was the only thing to save her life. Though prognosis was poor. Sharpy is the most loving and sweetest cat we have ever encountered. Not having any children, the cats are our kids. Sharpy is the happy cat who brings us all together. She's SO loving, likes to lick my cheek and to be held. She's not a picky eater...she's just a GREAT cat! She does like to hide in kitchen cabinets, though. When we open them, SURPRISE! There she is, back in our arms again.
