Help Auggie Fight for His Chance to Grow Up

At just 3½ weeks old, Auggie is already fighting for his life. Auggie is a tiny French Bulldog puppy born with a cleft palate, a serious birth defect that has made it difficult for him to eat safely and put him at risk for dangerous complications. But Auggie’s breeder made a decision that mattered enormously: they recognized that he was declining and called us for help. At the time, the breeder did not know Auggie had a cleft palate. They only knew that he had stopped eating and was rapidly losing weight. After receiving their call on Sunday night, we immediately began searching for rescue placement and transportation, despite being closed to new intakes. When we still could not find transportation by Monday morning, we made the four-hour drive ourselves to bring him to safety. When we finally got him, we knew he was critical. Auggie weighed just 250 grams. We were told he had stopped eating and was rapidly losing weight. When we examined him, we discovered the cleft palate that was preventing him from feeding normally. He was also experiencing significant respiratory congestion caused by constant regurgitation. Food and liquid had been entering his nasal passages instead of traveling safely into his digestive system, placing his fragile body at serious risk for aspiration and pneumonia. His little body had already been fighting SO hard—and it wasn't a fight he could survive alone. We immediately started Auggie on antibiotics and nebulizer treatments to help manage his respiratory issues. Because continuing to feed him was causing ongoing regurgitation, we also made the difficult decision to begin weaning him in an effort to protect his lungs and prevent his condition from becoming even more serious. Right now, we're taking Auggie one hour at a time. The next few days—and honestly, the next several weeks—will be critical for this little fighter. He needs intensive monitoring, veterinary care, medications, respiratory treatments, and the specialized care required to give his tiny body a chance to grow stronger. We said yes to Auggie because we believe his life is worth fighting for. Now we need our village to help us keep fighting alongside him. Rudy Needs Us: Help This Sick Puppy Fight His Way Back

Meet Rudy. He’s just a puppy, but he has already endured more suffering than any little dog should ever know. Now, he needs our help to get his second chance. When This is Houston saw a post circulating about a puppy who had been found desperately ill and in need of help, they stepped up. Rudy was rushed to Vergi 24/7, where his condition was far more serious than anyone initially realized. Rudy had been so critically ill and unable to move that he had remained in one position for an extended period of time. As a result, he developed a severe pressure sore on his hip. A large area of hardened, dead tissue had formed over the wound and had to be removed, leaving very little healthy tissue behind. Depending on how the wound heals, Rudy may eventually need surgery to close it. He also has a painful wound over his knee. Thankfully, what initially appeared to be exposed bone turned out to be exposed tissue — but there is still very little healthy tissue available to cover the injury, meaning surgical closure may also be necessary. And sadly, the end of Rudy’s tail has become necrotic. A portion of his tail will need to be amputated. But despite everything his tiny body has been through, Rudy is fighting. His recovery has been slow, but he is making progress. Rudy has gained strength and is becoming more alert. He’s starting to show his personality, even barking at other patients as they pass his kennel. He’s showing more interest in standing, and while he still cannot walk, he is no longer the fragile little “noodle” he was when he arrived. He continues to receive range-of-motion exercises and is eating consistently every four hours. His wounds are receiving ongoing care, including specialized bandaging and hydrogel for the severe hip wound. And there is even more good news. Rudy tested negative for distemper. His bloodwork continues to improve. His temperature is staying stable, his blood sugar has remained steady, and his red blood cell count is holding at 21% following his transfusions. Most encouragingly, his white blood cell count has climbed from approximately 1.7 to 7.6 — a huge improvement from where this little puppy started. He has also been able to come out of the incubator, and his veterinary team has reduced some of the additives in his fluids as his body continues to stabilize. There is still a major hurdle ahead: Rudy’s albumin levels need to stabilize, and his wounds will require continued intensive care. His recovery may involve additional procedures, including possible surgical closure of his wounds and the necessary tail amputation. But every improved blood value matters. Every bark matters. Every attempt to stand matters. Rudy is still here. He is fighting. And now he needs us to fight alongside him. ThisisHouston stepped up when Rudy had nowhere else to turn. Bizou isn’t even five months old, but this tiny kitten has already endured more suffering than any animal should. Someone abandoned Bizou on the street, sick, weak, and unable to fend for herself. By the time she was found and taken in by Alyarz Pet Club, she was barely holding on. Her little body was exhausted, her coat was filthy and severely matted, and it was clear she desperately needed medical attention. Bizou was rushed for bloodwork, and the results revealed just how critical her condition was. Her hematocrit was only 5%. Bizou was suffering from life-threatening anemia. Her red blood cell level was so dangerously low that there was no time to wait—without an emergency blood transfusion, she might not survive. Thankfully, a matching blood donor was found, and Bizou received the lifesaving transfusion she desperately needed. But her fight is far from over. Bizou remains hospitalized and is receiving IV fluids and supportive care as veterinarians work to stabilize her. She needs continued monitoring, repeat bloodwork, medication, further testing to determine what caused her severe anemia, and whatever additional treatment is necessary to help her recover. At less than five months old, Bizou should be discovering toys, curling up somewhere safe, and experiencing the carefree life of a kitten. Milo Needs Help After a Urinary Blockage Nearly Took His Life

Just days ago, Milo was teetering on the brink of septic shock, and his veterinarian gave him only a 50/50 chance. This sweet, playful four year old cat was taken in by NY Cat Warriors as a stray in March 2026. Already neutered and ear tipped, Milo settled into foster care and even formed a special bond with another cat in his foster home. He seemed healthy and had a bright future ahead of him. Then, without warning, everything changed. Milo stopped eating normally and became increasingly lethargic. By August 22, his foster knew something was seriously wrong, and he was rushed to the emergency room. Vets discovered that Milo was suffering from a life threatening urinary blockage. Although they were able to clear the obstruction, his bloodwork revealed that his condition was even more dangerous than initially feared. Milo’s potassium had risen to a dangerously high level, putting him at risk of a potentially fatal heart arrhythmia. At the same time, his blood sugar had fallen dangerously low. In a cat with a urinary blockage, this unusual combination raised serious concerns about a severe infection and the possibility of septic shock. Milo was admitted to the ICU, where he required intensive treatment and monitoring. He received insulin to lower his potassium, dextrose to stabilize his blood sugar, antibiotics to fight infection, pain medication, and careful monitoring to make sure he did not become blocked again. For a frightening period of time, no one knew if Milo was going to make it. Thankfully, Milo has begun responding to treatment. His kidney values and potassium have improved, his blood sugar has become more stable, and he has started eating small amounts on his own. He has improved enough to leave the highest level of ICU care, but Milo is not out of this yet. He remains under veterinary care as his team watches closely to make sure his improvement continues and that he does not experience another blockage or complication. After coming so close to losing him, his rescue wants to make sure Milo receives everything he needs to safely continue his recovery. Saving his life has also come at an enormous cost. More than $7,000 has already been paid toward Milo’s emergency hospitalization, and his total veterinary expenses are expected to approach $10,000. For a small foster based rescue, one unexpected emergency of this magnitude has a tremendous financial impact. Milo fought through a urinary blockage, dangerous bloodwork abnormalities, a severe infection, and the threat of septic shock. Now he needs our help as he continues fighting his way back. Emma’s life changed in an instant when a foster with Strong Paws Rescue witnessed her being hit by a car on the streets of Houston. The driver didn’t even stop. Thankfully, someone did. The foster immediately rushed to Emma’s side and got her the emergency veterinary care she desperately needed. But as rescuers began to learn more about this sweet girl, it became clear that the accident was only the latest hardship she had endured. Emma was found with a shoestring tied tightly around her neck and was covered in fleas. Even more heartbreaking, she was full of milk, indicating that she had recently given birth — yet there were no puppies anywhere in sight. It appears Emma may have broken free from wherever she had been kept before wandering into the street. Now, Strong Paws Rescue is determined to give Emma the care and compassion she should have had all along. Emma Needs Orthopedic Surgery Emma was immediately taken to Heights Veterinary Clinic, where veterinarians discovered a spiral fracture in her leg that will require orthopedic surgery. Despite everything she has endured, rescuers are grateful that her injuries weren’t even more severe. Because of the force of the impact, there was also concern about possible lung trauma, and Emma needed to be closely monitored for signs of bruising or other complications. Emma is currently unable to stand on her own, although she has been able to eat a small meal. Her temporary foster is a veterinarian, which means this incredibly vulnerable girl can remain under close observation while she awaits surgery. There is another concern, too. Because Emma recently gave birth and is still producing a significant amount of milk, her foster is carefully helping relieve the pressure on her mammary glands to reduce her risk of developing mastitis. Thankfully, there are currently no signs of infection. An Emergency Strong Paws Never Expected There was no time to prepare for Emma’s arrival. Strong Paws Rescue had already faced an incredibly expensive stretch of veterinary cases when their foster happened to witness the accident. But leaving Emma injured and suffering in the street simply wasn’t an option. Her initial emergency care alone cost approximately $1,800, and her upcoming orthopedic surgery will add significantly to the expense. She will also need continued monitoring and veterinary care as she begins the long process of recovering from both the accident and everything she endured before her rescue. Emma has already survived more than any dog should have to. She survived whatever circumstances left her with a shoestring around her neck. She survived losing or being separated from her puppies. And somehow, she survived being struck by a car. Now she needs our help to survive the next chapter — and finally have the chance to heal.

Help Rocco Heal: Injured Kitten Fighting to Save His Sight

When Paws & Claws Animal Welfare Society found little Rocco on the streets two days ago, the tiny kitten was in heartbreaking condition. His rescuers immediately knew he needed urgent medical attention and rushed him to the hospital. Rocco's injuries are consistent with significant trauma. His eyes were severely swollen and protruding from their sockets, suggesting that he may have been injured or beaten. He also has a painful bruise on one of his hind legs that is making it difficult for him to walk normally. Despite everything he has been through, Rocco is now safe and receiving the care he desperately needs. He is currently on medications and eye drops to reduce inflammation, protect his injured eyes, and give them the best possible chance to heal. Sadly, his future vision remains uncertain. Rocco is currently blind, and his veterinary team cannot yet determine whether he will regain his sight. They will need to monitor his progress closely as his eyes heal before they can know what his long-term prognosis will be. For such a tiny kitten, this is an overwhelming amount to endure. But Rocco has already shown how strong he is. Instead of being left to suffer alone on the streets, he now has people fighting for him and giving him the chance he deserves. He was born with pectus excavatum, a congenital condition that causes the chest and breastbone to become abnormally sunken inward. In severe cases, this can put pressure on the heart and lungs and make it difficult for a kitten to breathe and grow normally. Today, Sour Cream underwent an important procedure to help correct his chest deformity. His veterinary team added 12 mm to his chest, giving his little body more room and helping move his chest toward a healthier shape. For such a tiny kitten, this is a huge step. On March 13, 2026, a volunteer picked up a Cane Corso family from a north Texas animal shelter and drove them to safety, to a MAS Bully Rescue foster family in Bryan, Texas. The first two pictures we received of Mama Renata, as she affectionately became known, and her six babies painted a full picture: we were seeing a scared, neglected, and abused dog who would do anything if it meant her babies would be safe. She cowered over her babies, fearful for what may come, but brave enough to put herself in front of any potential harm. But getting Renata and her "Italian Roots" to Bryan was only the first hurdle. Soon after settling into her foster home, we quickly learned that Renata was fearful, reactive, and hesitant to trust. Never aggressive towards people, but incredibly apprehensive, you could tell this girl had been let down more times than not; making her untrusting of people. Medically, she came with a list... Extreme Emaciation (pouring all she had into her babies) High Heartworm Positive Intact (and needing an extensive spay) Severe damage from a long-term embedded collar After months of being the best mama, she watched as all of her babies found loving forever homes; while no one came for her. And when the rescue began to tackle her medical issues, the list continued to grow. On May 19th, Renata went in for her spay and corrective surgery to remove the extra skin and scar tissue around her neck, caused by the damage from the long-term embedded collar. That night, everything changed. From the moment her foster mom picked her up, it was clear something was wrong. Renata was experiencing excessive bleeding and oozing from her neck wounds, that continued to progress and worsen over the next several weeks. Under close veterinary supervision (by both our primary clinic and the practice who did her procedures), we watched as Renata's body began to reject the sutures and surgical corrections, experiencing severe wound dehiscence. Large globs of coagulated blood and clots were - literally - dropping from her neck, and she very clearly began to develop an infection. After multiple rounds of failed antibiotics, the surgical site failed entirely, leaving Renata with a large open wound. Testing of the surgical site found that Renata lives with MRS-P, a chronic, antibiotic resistant staph-infection; and after conducting an antibiotic susceptibility test, we learned that there were/are no safe antibiotic options for her. Now 3 months later, Renata's neck has finally "healed," although she is left with severe scar tissue and folds that become humid and yeasty when not cared for daily. And while the surgeon has offered to do a revision, we as a team have collectively decided to pass, knowing that the likelihood of Renata having complications moving forward is high. Renata is now, finally, starting her heartworm treatment (injections into her back); and, for a XL breed dog, are expensive. And these are only her medical needs. Renata would benefit greatly from training that would work on building her confidence, reducing her reactivity, and make her a more adoptable candidate. While MAS Bully Rescue actively works with Off Leash K9 - our preferred training partner - their programs are expensive, running $4,000 fair market; and discounted to $2,600 for the rescue. After her medical needs received almost no fundraising support, MAS Bully Rescue truly does not have the extra resources available to provide intensive training support. And every day that Renata sits in our program, is another day where a shelter dog loses a chance at a spot in our program. Will you please help us help Renata?

Wally’s Second Wish: Help Save His Eyesight

Wally is just one year old, and he should have his whole life ahead of him. Instead, this sweet Rottweiler was on the euthanasia list at our overcrowded city shelter when Pioneers for Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) stepped in to save him. He did nothing wrong. He is pure love. Wally’s first wish was granted: he is still alive. Now we need your help to grant his second wish—to live pain-free and keep his vision. Wally urgently needs double entropion surgery. Entropion is a painful condition in which the eyelids roll inward, causing the fur and eyelashes to constantly rub against the cornea. This can lead to pain, excessive tearing, squinting, corneal ulcers, and potentially permanent damage to his vision if it is left untreated. Wally is such a young boy, and he deserves the chance to grow up without living in pain. He deserves to see the world around him, play, explore, and enjoy the long and happy life he should have had all along. But right now, Wally cannot have his surgery until the funds are raised. We don't want this young dog to have to wait any longer than necessary for the care that could give him relief and protect his vision. Please help us give Wally his second chance. Alex Is Fighting For His Life

Alex has been fighting for his life for months, and after everything he has endured, he still needs help. Alex was originally found on the streets of Lebanon in terrible condition. He was severely dehydrated and emaciated, with painful ulcers inside his mouth. He was also diagnosed as FIV-positive. Since being rescued, Alex has been in and out of the hospital as his veterinary team searches for answers. His most persistent problem has been a severe, chronic ulcer on his tongue accompanied by excessive drooling. The inflammation and pain have made something as basic as eating incredibly difficult. Doctors eventually determined that Alex was also suffering from neuritis, believed to be related to a previous traumatic injury to his face. The nerve damage makes it difficult for him to control his tongue and mouth, causing his tongue to hang out and leaving him drooling constantly. The moisture has also caused painful irritation to the skin around his face and discoloration of his fur since he is unable to groom himself. Veterinarians have tried everything they can to give Alex relief. He has undergone multiple dental extractions, extensive diagnostic testing, repeated cultures, several courses of antibiotics and supportive care. At one point, Alex needed a feeding tube so his mouth could rest while he continued receiving nutrition. Unfortunately, his painful tongue lesion and inflammation have persisted despite treatment. Now Alex is facing another serious setback. Recent bloodwork revealed that his hematocrit had fallen to just 11.3%, leaving him severely anemic and potentially in need of a blood transfusion. His white blood cell count was also significantly elevated, indicating that his body is continuing to battle severe inflammation or another underlying problem. Alex has once again been hospitalized, where he is receiving IV support and vitamins while his veterinary team works to stabilize him and determine what is causing his worsening anemia. After months of hospital stays, procedures, medications, testing and around-the-clock care, Alex’s medical expenses continue to grow. His rescuers have never given up on him, but they cannot do this alone. We are hoping to raise at least $3,000 to help cover Alex’s ongoing hospitalization, diagnostic testing, medications and supportive care. Alex has already survived so much. Creamsicle was found stuck high in a tree in Paterson, terrified, injured, and unable to get down. Her rescue from the treetops brought RBARI one more tiny medically needy kitten during this relentless kitten season. Thanks to the combined efforts of the Paterson Fire Department and Paterson Animal Control, Creamsicle was safely rescued. RBARI took over her medical care and rehabilitation upon rescue, as it quickly became clear she had been through an ordeal before climbing the tree. Creamsicle has an ulcer on one eye, an upper respiratory infection, and painful burns on her paw pads. Her feet were raw and it was painful to walk. They don’t yet know what caused the burns, but exposure to extreme heat or a chemical is suspected. Creamsicle is on crate rest as she is treated for her eye and respiratory infections and the painful burns on her feet. This sweet, gentle kitten has been wonderful for her baths, medication, and wound care. Creamsicle arrived at one of the hardest points of kitten season. Their foster homes are full. Their cages are full. Supplies are disappearing faster than they can replace them, medical expenses continue to climb, and their volunteers and fosters are exhausted—yet kittens like Creamsicle continue to need these caretakers every day. Timmy was found abandoned at an industrial site, alone, vulnerable, and in heartbreaking condition. When rescuers from Pumpkin’s Rescue Club found him, it was clear that this sweet cat desperately needed medical attention. He was rushed straight to an emergency veterinary hospital, where he has remained hospitalized as the veterinary team works around the clock to save his life. Timmy’s condition is extremely serious, and right now, there are still more questions than answers. His veterinarians are concerned that he could be suffering from diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), sepsis, pancreatitis, or potentially a combination of these devastating conditions. His glucose levels have improved with treatment, but Timmy remains incredibly weak. His organs are enlarged, and he is currently so debilitated that he cannot even bear weight on his legs. For now, his veterinary team is continuing to treat him for DKA while they work to determine exactly what is happening inside his fragile body. Every hour matters as they monitor his condition, provide supportive care, and try to get his systems stabilized. It is impossible to know what Timmy endured before he was found at that industrial site. What we do know is that he was abandoned when he was already desperately sick—and now he needs someone to fight for him. Pumpkin’s Rescue Club is doing everything possible to give Timmy that chance, but his emergency hospitalization, testing, medications, and ongoing intensive care are quickly adding up. After suffering a devastating seizure, advanced imaging revealed what even specialists rarely see. Genevieve was born with Diplomyelia, an extraordinarily rare congenital condition that caused her spinal cord to split into two instead of developing as one. Her body struggles to coordinate movement, and she cannot fully control her bladder or bowels. The heartbreaking discoveries didn't stop there. Large portions of the areas of her brain responsible for movement and reflexes never fully formed. Because her condition is structural, there is no surgery that can fix it. Her neurologists and her caregivers at Flopsy’s Friends developed one goal: keep Genevieve comfortable, seizure free, and give her every opportunity to enjoy the life she deserves. And Genevieve has exceeded every expectation. Every milestone has been hard earned. She learned to stand and eat on her own with a specially designed feeding setup. Thankfully, oxygen therapy has helped her breathe more comfortably, but she still needs specialized care, additional diagnostics, medications, and ongoing monitoring. Watching Genevieve struggle is heartbreaking. She can't tell us what hurts. She can't explain what she needs. All she can do is keep fighting. And she does. Every single day. An ultrasound showed a large mass in Genevieve’s abdominal area, something that had also been noted during her recent emergency hospitalization. Her platelet count is also dangerously low at just 38,000, which is especially concerning for a kitten who already struggles with balance and is more prone to stumbling. Flopsy’s Friends is now working to get Genevieve an urgent abdominal ultrasound, and she may need to return to the emergency hospital to have it done as quickly as possible. Genevieve is also still running fevers, struggling to urinate, experiencing significant bloating, and dealing with persistent ear infections. Her little body is clearly struggling, and she urgently needs answers and continued medical care. For now, Genevieve is happy to be back home. She even cried a little during her echocardiogram, which is unusual for this normally quiet girl, but she was such a trooper through it all. Refusing to let Teddy's story end there, the rescue pulled him from the shelter and rushed him for emergency veterinary care. While Teddy is finally safe, his fight is only beginning. Initial bloodwork revealed several alarming abnormalities, including an elevated white blood cell count, low blood glucose, and elevated kidney values, all signs that his body is battling something serious. He remains weak, depressed, and has very little interest in food. His veterinary team has ordered extensive diagnostic testing to determine exactly how much damage the unknown chemical may have caused and what treatment he needs moving forward. Teddy's caregivers are doing everything they can to encourage him to eat. So far, he's only managed a few tiny bites of food. He nibbled on a piece of chicken nugget, but not even enough to finish one. He'll take a short walk outside, but the little energy he has quickly disappears. Once back inside, he quietly returns to his bed, getting up only when absolutely necessary. His heart rate also remains dangerously low, and his veterinarians are closely monitoring him while they await the results of more advanced bloodwork that will help guide the next phase of his treatment. Despite how sick he feels, Teddy's sweet personality is still shining through. He even managed to wag his tail—a small but beautiful reminder that he's still fighting. No dog should come this close to losing their life simply because they need medical care. Mozart was found in a busy city in Rhode Island. Founder called animal control and when they arrived they couldn't believe their eyes. She thought he was dead. The ACO spent 4 hours trying to clean him and when she did she released a knot near his leg and when she did his leg just fell. His leg was so matted it cut off circulation that his leg became necrotic. When he was half shaved he was soaked with urine. This is the worst case of neglect the ACO ever seen. He spent the night at Ocean State Emergency Hospital in East Greenwich, RI. He received blood work tests, antibiotics, fluids, sedated shave down and full body cleaning. Blood work test stated white blood cells elevated and anemic. His back leg was accessed and it will need amputation once infections are cleared. He is currently on pain patch and will not be discharged until we have his doctor has pain management in place. Please consider helping this boy Mozart Augusta. UPDATE: Mozart is home resting and will be seeing a Primary Vet for pain management and leg amputation. He is also losing part of his right foot due to bone corrosion and testing for possible cancer. 8/4/26 Update: More care needed As time goes on and the more and more diagnostics are done to Mozart we are finding a very bad past. His front paw is fractured and needs a baby toe amputated as well as his leg. He has what appeared as a broken tail but that has healed at a right angle. Despite his trauma he is loving the attention of kindness. We have a lot more work to do for him.

The veterinary team immediately began treating his wounds with an emergency cleaning to remove damaged tissue and reduce the risk of infection. Unfortunately, because the injuries are so deep and located around his face and head, one treatment simply isn't enough. Conejito now requires repeated wound cleanings every two to three days to give his body the best chance to heal. These procedures are essential, but they are also extremely painful. Because of the sensitive location of his injuries, Conejito must be sedated for each treatment so the veterinary team can thoroughly clean the wounds without causing him unnecessary fear or suffering. Sedation allows his doctors to carefully remove unhealthy tissue, monitor for infection, and help healthy tissue grow so his wounds can finally begin to close. Every unsteady step put her life at risk. A concerned community member saw that she couldn't survive much longer and reached out to Wild Whiskers for help. When rescuers brought Nova to safety, they discovered that she wasn't injured from a car accident, as many had feared. Instead, Nova has cerebellar hypoplasia (CH), a neurological condition that affects her balance and coordination. Cats with CH can live long, happy lives indoors, but on the streets, where every step can mean dodging traffic or escaping predators, her condition made survival incredibly dangerous. But then we learned that Nova had endured something even more heartbreaking. A BB was found lodged in her body. Someone shot this tiny, vulnerable cat with a BB gun. We can't stop thinking about what that must have looked like—this sweet girl already struggling to walk, wobbling through the streets, barely able to survive and find enough food, only to be hurt even further by someone who chose to shoot her. It absolutely shattered our hearts. And yet, Nova kept going. Her challenges didn't end there. During her initial veterinary examination, doctors discovered dangerously high pressure in one of her eyes. A veterinary ophthalmologist confirmed that Nova is permanently blind in that eye because of glaucoma. The eye cannot be saved, and the painful pressure has been affecting her every single day. Nova has also already been through so much of what no cat should have to endure. Veterinarians discovered that she had previously given birth to kittens. It's difficult to imagine this fragile little cat, struggling to walk and survive outdoors while carrying a litter, giving birth, and trying to care for her babies—all while living with a painful, blind eye. Thankfully, Nova has now been spayed, so she will never have to endure that hardship again. We thought we were almost at the finish line. Nova's veterinary specialists recommended an enucleation to remove her painful, damaged eye. Because she is already blind in that eye, the surgery will not take away vision. Instead, it will eliminate the painful pressure she has been forced to live with and spare her from a lifetime of stressful daily eye medications. We were hoping that once her eye was removed, Nova's major medical needs would finally be behind her. Unfortunately, we learned that she has another painful problem that cannot be ignored. Nova's dental disease is extensive. She has resorptive lesions and multiple broken teeth, which means she is also experiencing significant dental pain. She will need a dental surgery to remove the damaged teeth and address the disease in her mouth. Her eye surgery and dental surgery must be performed separately because of the risk of bacteria associated with oral surgery and eye surgery. That means one more procedure—and one more expense—for this little survivor. We are so close to giving Nova the comfortable, pain-free life she deserves. Wild Whiskers has already spent hundreds of dollars on Nova's emergency veterinary care, diagnostics, vaccinations, examinations, and specialist care. We are now raising funds for her enucleation, biopsy, and the dental surgery she desperately needs. If enough funds are raised, her removed eye will also be sent for biopsy. The results could help identify any underlying disease that could potentially threaten the vision in her remaining eye, allowing her veterinary team to better protect the sight she still has. Nova spent who knows how long struggling through life alone—wobbling through a parking lot, searching for food, enduring a painful blind eye, dental disease, and even a gunshot wound. Patrons fed her when they could, but it was clear she was fading. She had no shelter, no protection, and no one to keep her safe. One kind person finally made a call to Andrew’s Paws for Hope. That call saved her life. When Lily arrived at the sanctuary that night, she walked straight to the bed that had been prepared for her. She curled up, closed her eyes, and fell asleep almost instantly. It was the sleep of a cat who had been waiting far too long to feel safe again. From that night on, she chose her place in the world. Parmesan arrived with multiple serious medical concerns, including a heart murmur, severe vision impairment, painful dental disease, anemia, electrolyte imbalances, and chronic dry eye disease. Despite everything he’d endured, his gentle, loving personality never wavered. Everyone who meets him says the same thing— he is unbelievably sweet. His veterinary team immediately got to work. Parm has been diagnosed with immune-mediated dry eye, a lifelong condition that will require daily medication to keep him comfortable. Parmesan also underwent dental surgery to give him a fresh start. Years of advanced periodontal disease had caused severe gum recession, and veterinarians had no choice but to remove six painful teeth to relieve his suffering. Although his surgeries went well, there are still challenges ahead. Veterinarians have confirmed that Parmesan has no vision, and he will need ongoing monitoring of his eyes, repeat bloodwork to evaluate mildly elevated liver enzymes, lifelong eye medication, and continued follow-up care as he adjusts to his new life. When Finn was trapped at a junkyard colony in March, everyone believed he would simply be another trap-neuter-return cat. But the moment rescuers from Clewiston Friends of Animals, Inc. saw him, they knew his story would be different. Finn's fragile body told the story of a cat who had suffered for far too long. He was covered in painful, severe mange, his eyes were infected, and open wounds covered his skin. He was far too sick to undergo surgery, so instead of returning him to the colony, his rescue team focused on giving him something he had likely never known before: safety, comfort, and medical care. By the very next morning, Finn surprised everyone. Rather than the fearful feral cat they expected, he revealed himself to be incredibly affectionate, gentle, and grateful to finally be safe indoors. It didn't take long for him to capture everyone's hearts. Over the following months, Finn made remarkable progress. His skin healed, his wounds disappeared, and he was finally healthy enough to be neutered. During his recovery, veterinarians also discovered that Finn is FIV-positive. Knowing he would be much safer living indoors, his rescuers made the decision that he would never have to return to the junkyard. Instead, Finn settled into the indoor life he clearly adored while patiently waiting for the loving family he deserves. Just as his future was beginning to look bright, another devastating setback struck. Finn suddenly became lethargic, began vomiting, and stopped acting like himself. He was rushed to the emergency veterinarian, where diagnostic testing revealed his blood sugar had skyrocketed to over 600 and ketones were present—a life-threatening diabetic crisis. As if that weren't enough, Finn was also diagnosed with pancreatitis, a painful condition requiring immediate treatment. Finn was hospitalized right away and is expected to remain under intensive veterinary care for several days while doctors work to stabilize both his diabetes and pancreatitis. He is receiving IV fluids, antibiotics, medications, and around-the-clock monitoring to give him the best chance at recovery. Once he is stable enough to return to his foster home, Finn will require lifelong insulin therapy, a prescription diet, and careful monitoring to keep his diabetes under control. While this diagnosis will change his daily routine, it doesn't change who Finn is—a resilient, loving cat who has already overcome so much. When he arrived, his blood sugar and blood pressure were dangerously low, and his tiny body had become cold. Every minute mattered. The veterinary team provided emergency care, stabilized him, and gave this little fighter the chance he desperately needed. Thanks to their quick action, Frankenstein survived. Kusha is a gentle neighborhood dog who has never had a family to call his own, but he has always had a community that knows and cares about him. Friendly, trusting, and especially fond of children, Kusha spent his days quietly surviving on the streets, relying on the kindness of those who stopped to feed him. Then, in a single heartbreaking moment, everything changed. A week ago, Kusha was found convulsing in the middle of town near a church. His back legs had already become paralyzed, but somehow, despite unimaginable pain, he dragged himself to the home of a man who occasionally fed him. By the following day, his front legs had stopped working as well. Unable to help financially, the man reached out to Big Little Life Animal Rescue International, desperate to save his friend. Kusha was rushed to the emergency veterinary hospital, where doctors discovered he was suffering from severe poisoning that had left him completely paralyzed. He was immediately hospitalized and began intensive treatment, including IV fluids, medications, an antidote commonly used in suspected tuberculosis medication poisoning, and around-the-clock supportive care. For nearly a week, there was little improvement, and every day felt uncertain. Then, at last, Kusha gave everyone a reason to hope. His body has finally begun responding to treatment. While he remains critically ill and has a long road ahead, that small sign of progress means he has not given up—and neither have we. As more information came to light, the heartbreaking truth emerged. The day before Kusha became ill, witnesses reported that a woman became angry after two homeless dogs barked at her while she was walking her own dog. The following day, she returned carrying food intended for those strays. Kusha had not been involved in the earlier encounter. He simply wandered over first and eagerly ate the food before the other dogs could reach it. It is believed the food had been laced with tablets used to treat tuberculosis—medication that can be fatal to dogs. Kusha was an innocent victim. Today, he continues to fight for his life. He still requires hospitalization, medications, constant monitoring, and will likely need extensive rehabilitation as doctors work to determine how much movement he can regain. Although these are encouraging signs, Kusha remains in serious condition and still cannot urinate on his own. The doctors placed a catheter and drained about 300 ml of urine. There was pus in it, which may mean he is also dealing with an infection. He has also been sent for X-rays so the doctors can better understand what else may be going on and how to continue his treatment. He still needs hospitalization, IV fluids, medications, vitamins, catheter care, more tests, and most likely rehabilitation. He is finally moving in the right direction. Please help us keep Kusha receiving the treatment he needs. Every day matters right now. 8/14/26 Update: KUSHA IS WALKING Kusha’s treatment has continued with IV fluids, medications, vitamins, and close monitoring. He has remained weak, and his back legs were still not responding normally. But finally, Kusha walked. His steps are unsteady and he is still very weak, but he got up and moved on his own legs. He also peed and pooped by himself, something he had not been able to do since the poisoning. This is real progress. Kusha still needs more IV treatment, medications, monitoring of his bladder and urinary infection, and time to rebuild strength and coordination in his legs. He is not fully recovered, but today he showed us just how far he has already come. I will never understand people who look at a homeless dog and decide his life does not matter. How does someone think it is okay to hurt a living being simply because no one is standing beside him. And then there are people who stop and do what they can. Twyla has already fought harder than any kitten ever should. Now she needs your help one more time. When Twyla was born at the rescue after her pregnant mother was saved, she was much smaller than her siblings. She struggled to nurse, lost weight, and her future was uncertain. The rescue quickly discovered why: she was born with a cleft palate, an opening in the roof of her mouth that made it impossible for her to nurse normally. Every attempt to eat or drink put her at risk because food and liquid could pass into her respiratory system instead of her stomach. From the moment they realized something was wrong, the dedicated volunteers at It's Meow or Never for Ferals refused to give up on her. Skilled caregivers worked together around the clock, tube feeding Twyla every two to three hours, day and night, to keep her alive. Their incredible dedication gave this tiny kitten the chance she deserved. Slowly, Twyla grew stronger. She tripled her weight, filled the rescue with tiny purrs, and showed everyone just how spirited she was. Even with a cleft palate, she never stopped trying to eat and drink like every other kitten. She embraced life with determination, spending her days playing with her siblings, snuggling with her mom, and charming everyone she met. At just the right age, Twyla underwent the specialized cleft palate repair surgery she desperately needed. It was a huge milestone, and for the first time in her life, she got to enjoy soft, wet food. It was something most cats take for granted, but for Twyla, it was a dream come true. Sadly, that victory didn't last. At her four week follow up appointment, after she began sneezing frequently and pawing at her face, specialists confirmed the heartbreaking news: part of the repair had reopened. Fortunately, Twyla isn't in pain, and there is no damaged or dying tissue. Her surgeon explained that this is a known complication of cleft palate repairs, and revision surgery is often necessary to achieve a lasting repair. Now Twyla urgently needs a second surgery. Because there is only a limited window while she is still young enough for successful cleft palate repair, time is incredibly important. Until the revision surgery is completed, she has had to go back to eating carefully prepared kibble instead of the wet food she had finally been able to enjoy. Every day she has to wait is another day without the normal life she's worked so hard for. Her ankle is severely swollen, frozen in place, and contracted from what appears to be an old injury that was never treated. Every step she takes is a reminder of the pain she has been forced to endure. A local canine officer safely secured Matilda and cared for her because the small local pound was unable to comfortably accommodate a dog of her size. It also appeared that Matilda had given birth to multiple litters of puppies during her life. After years spent caring for others, she was left alone when she needed help the most. Although a nearby resident believed they knew where she came from, the suspected owners denied that she belonged to them. Her full story may never be known, but it is heartbreakingly clear that she was abandoned. Now safe with Upper Midwest Great Dane Rescue, Matilda is finally receiving the love and compassion she has always deserved. In addition to the severe orthopedic issues affecting her front leg, veterinarians discovered an abdominal mass, a possible mammary tumor, and that Matilda is anemic. Right now, her doctors are focused on keeping her comfortable, managing her pain, and closely monitoring her bloodwork in hopes that her anemia will improve enough for surgery. Matilda's front leg has likely never functioned normally, either because of a birth defect or an injury she suffered very early in life. Because Great Danes carry most of their weight on their front limbs, relying almost entirely on one healthy front leg for so long has placed tremendous strain on the rest of her body. That extra stress is now affecting her remaining front leg as well as her spine, making her mobility even more challenging. If her bloodwork improves as hoped, Matilda is expected to undergo exploratory abdominal surgery during the second week of August. This procedure will help her veterinary team determine the cause of the abdominal mass and develop the best treatment plan for her moving forward. Matilda received some new presents, including a comfortable bed and toys of her own. They may seem like simple things, but for a dog who was found abandoned, severely underweight, struggling to walk, and facing multiple serious medical concerns, having a soft place to rest and a few things to call her own means a little more. Matilda’s last evaluation revealed that her medical situation was far more complicated than originally expected. In addition to the severe orthopedic condition affecting her front leg, her vets discovered an abdominal mass, a possible mammary tumor, and anemia. Her medical team is closely monitoring her bloodwork while working to determine when she will be stable enough to move forward with additional procedures. Her new bed and toys don’t erase the serious challenges she is facing, but they can make the difficult days a little more comfortable. She is home, and her first surgery went smoothly! One of the biggest concerns was a possible mass that had been discovered during her earlier evaluation. Thankfully, there is now some very reassuring news: no mass was found, and there is no cancer. Instead, it was determined that one of Matilda’s kidneys is slightly enlarged and positioned higher in her abdomen than expected. This will need to be monitored moving forward, but everyone is incredibly relieved that the frightening possibility of cancer has been ruled out. There is more good news, too. Her bloodwork and anemia are improving with regular meals and proper nutrition, and she continues to get stronger as her body recovers. And while Matilda has been recovering, she has made a very special new friend named Six! There may be quite a size difference between the two, but that certainly hasn’t stopped them from becoming best buddies. Six may be tiny, but she has a big personality and has no problem keeping up with Matilda. The two spend their days playing together, sharing toys, curling up in the same bed, and keeping each other company. Six has even figured out that climbing onto the recliner gives her a little height advantage during playtime! Watching their friendship develop has been such a sweet part of Matilda’s recovery, and having a little companion around seems to be making her time at home that much more enjoyable. There are still some decisions to be made about what comes next for Matilda’s leg and a few of her other medical needs, so her journey isn’t over just yet. Sturgeon has already survived more than any puppy ever should. When Sturgeon was only five weeks old, his mother was tragically killed, leaving him and his littermates alone to survive without food, shelter, or water. Thankfully, Beagles and Bentleys stepped in, rescuing the orphaned puppies and providing the love, care, and medical attention they desperately needed. As Sturgeon grew stronger, his playful personality began to shine. He proved to be an intelligent, curious, and spunky Great Pyrenees mix with his whole life ahead of him. Then, just as everything seemed to be falling into place, disaster struck again. Only 10-12 weeks old, Sturgeon suddenly became ill with kennel cough. His condition deteriorated rapidly as the infection progressed into a severe case of bacterial pneumonia. He was rushed to the emergency vet, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit and placed in an oxygen chamber for three days while his medical team fought to save his life. Sturgeon required around the clock emergency care, oxygen therapy, IV medications, and constant monitoring. His tiny body was working overtime just to breathe. Thankfully, this brave little puppy never gave up. After days of intensive treatment, Sturgeon pulled through. He was determined to be well enough to leave the hospital and continue his recovery with the loving family who had just begun an adoption trial before he became sick. Sturgeon's emergency hospitalization resulted in nearly $10,000 in unexpected veterinary expenses. As a nonprofit rescue, Beagles and Bentleys never hesitates to say yes when an animal needs lifesaving care, but emergency cases like Sturgeon's place a tremendous strain on their resources. Thankfully, Super B Foundation stepped in before it was too late and Benny was immediately evaluated by a veterinarian. For the next three weeks, Benny must remain as still as possible in a cast—a nearly impossible task for a playful, growing puppy. After that, he’ll return for repeat X-rays to see if the bone is healing correctly. Every two weeks he needs to have his bandages redone and be checked for pressure sores - costing the rescue $600 each visit. If his leg isn’t improving, amputation may be his only option. No matter what the next X-rays reveal, Benny’s journey isn’t over. He will need ongoing veterinary care, follow-up appointments, pain management, and careful monitoring until his leg has fully healed and he’s finally able to run and play like every puppy deserves. Just days ago, Stewie was on the euthanasia list at California's overcrowded Devore County Animal Shelter. At only two years old, this tiny pup was facing euthanasia while suffering in silence with a devastating broken leg and hip pain. When Bichon Rescue Brigade learned about Stewie, they knew they couldn't let his story end behind shelter walls. His life had been spared but his battle was only beginning. Veterinarians discovered Stewie had a severely displaced fracture of his left femur. During surgery, they made another heartbreaking discovery: the injury was older than anyone realized. Scar tissue and granulation had already formed around the broken bone, meaning Stewie had likely been living in excruciating pain for much longer than anyone knew. The rescue was given a choice - pay less for a complete leg amputation or pay more to save the leg. To give him the best chance at a pain-free future, BRB opted to save his leg and surgeons performed an extensive orthopedic procedure. They cleaned away damaged tissue, repaired the fracture with a specialized locking bone plate, and performed a femoral head ostectomy (FHO) to restore his mobility. Thanks to his veterinary team, the surgery was a success and Stewie is now on the long road to recovery. For the next two months, Stewie must remain on strict crate rest with no running, jumping, long walks, or rough play while his body heals. He will need ongoing pain medication, follow-up appointments, X-rays, and careful rehabilitation to ensure his leg heals properly. Bichon Rescue Brigade gave Stewie the chance to leave the euthanasia list behind and begin a new life filled with hope instead of pain. Now they need our help to give him every opportunity to fully recover. The rescue fought to save his leg even though that meant a much larger bill. With so many serious medical conditions occurring at once, his immune system had become severely compromised, making recovery incredibly difficult. Our veterinary team immediately began supportive treatment, including diagnostics, IV fluids, medications, vitamins, and intensive nursing care, hoping to stabilize him and uncover the underlying cause of his illness. Despite everyone's best efforts, Kaina's condition continued to deteriorate.Sadly, his fragile body could not overcome the severity of his illness, and he passed away. Losing Kaina is heartbreaking. We had hoped to give him the chance to recover and experience the healthy, happy life every animal deserves. Instead, we find comfort in knowing that his final days were spent surrounded by compassionate people who treated him with dignity, kindness, and love. He no longer had to suffer alone. Only about a week old, Oreo’s eyes were barely open, and she already had to fight to survive. Beside her was her orange brother, Nabisco, and their mama. Yogi, his mom, and his siblings were abandoned in a McDonald’s parking lot in Barstow when the puppies were only a few days old. Even from a distance, it was clear something wasn’t right. Several puppies appeared to have injuries to their ears and toes, but Yogi’s condition was far more severe. We were initially told he had a simple laceration on his front leg. Unfortunately, veterinary exams revealed multiple fractures, extensive tissue damage, and infection. At only 2 weeks old we knew amputation right away would likely result in him passing away so we immediately put him on antibiotics, wound cleanings and close monitoring with 2 vet checks weekly. Our goal was to get him to 1lb as we knew the surgery had to happen as soon as possible, but wanted him to be at a more substantial weight to give him the best chance possible. His foster worked around the clock with supplemental feedings to be sure he was getting as much food as possible as his siblings unintentionally would push him to the side. We knew early on he was a determined and strong little guy and with every ounce gained we got closer and closer to surgery day. Finally, our vet gave him the all clear, Yogi officially had his amputation. The surgery was successful with no complications! Yogi showed us how resilient animals truly are and for the past two weeks has been working hard with his foster family through physical therapy, learning how to walk, run and even play with his siblings now that he is fully healed! His journey has just begun, he is still learning how to adapt and will soon be looking for a special home of his own, but right now we need the help to raise the funds to cover his procedure. His current balance due is $1986.81 for his life changing procedure. We are so optimistic for this brave boys future!

While Nieves and another dog were relaxing together in their yard, an unknown dog suddenly entered the property and viciously attacked them without warning. Both dogs suffered serious injuries. In the chaos, the second dog ran away in fear and has not yet been found. Nieves was immediately rushed to Amici Cannis Hospital, where the veterinary team worked quickly to stabilize her. Under anesthesia, her wounds were thoroughly cleaned, carefully examined, and sutured to reduce the risk of infection and give her the best chance at healing. While Nieves is now recovering under veterinary care, she still has a long road ahead. She will need pain management, medications, follow-up examinations, and continued monitoring to ensure her injuries heal properly and that complications do not arise. For Nieves' guardian, this emergency came without warning. Like so many loving pet owners, he never expected to face such a devastating and costly veterinary crisis. Although he is committed to doing everything he can for Nieves, the unexpected expense of emergency treatment is simply beyond his financial means. When we first read Sable's story, we couldn’t turn away. Someone had found this beautiful Siamese mix dragging herself across the ground, unable to use her back legs. She wasn’t crying. She wasn’t giving up. She was simply pulling herself forward with her front legs, hoping someone would notice. Then we stepped in. One By One Animal Advocates cannot turn these cases down. We rushed her to the emergency room, fearing the worst. As we waited for the first x-rays, we braced for a shattered spine and an impossible decision. Instead, the x-rays told a different story. Thankfully, her spine wasn't broken, instead the x-ray revealed old bullet fragments. The fragments were old, but a testament to the life Sable has endured. She's been through unspeakable, intentional cruelty and still approaches her people with trust. At the ER, Sable could not stand on her own. She still had feeling in her back legs and normal anal tone, and she would “rabbit kick” to reposition herself, all small signs of hope. But she was unable to urinate on her own and required manual bladder expression. After being transferred to Ashland Animal Clinic, there has still been no improvement. She is still unable to stand, and her bladder continues to require manual expression. Without a clear structural cause, we are holding onto hope that inflammation is affecting her mobility. Steroid treatment may help, but right now, we are waiting and hoping to see how much function she can regain. Cases like this are never easy. We are constantly balancing what medicine can do with the quality of life every animal deserves. Sable deserves every possible chance to recover, and right now that means around the clock care. Her emergency visit, x-rays, medications, hospitalization, and ongoing treatment have already resulted in significant medical expenses, and her care is far from over. Zoe's world changed overnight. At just 3 years old, this sweet French Bulldog began experiencing frightening seizure-like episodes that left her owner fearing the worst. Having seen the devastating effects of Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) in French Bulldogs before, they knew Zoe would likely need extensive diagnostics and specialized medical care that they simply could not afford. Wanting Zoe to have the best chance possible, they made the heartbreaking decision to surrender her to Pacific Rim Rescue. From the moment Zoe arrived, the rescue acted quickly. An urgent veterinary visit led to an emergency referral to a neurologist, and this week Zoe underwent an extensive neurological workup, including advanced imaging, at Summit Veterinary Referral Center. The news brought both relief and new challenges. The MRI confirmed that Zoe is not suffering from Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), as originally feared. Instead, veterinarians discovered severe infections and debris deep within both of her middle ears—painful conditions that may be responsible for the neurological symptoms she has been experiencing. Additional radiology results and a spinal tap are still pending to determine whether the infection has spread to the tissues surrounding her brain or whether the pressure from the infection alone is causing her seizure-like episodes. Zoe's journey isn't over. Her next step was an appointment with a veterinary dermatologist, who will attempt to scope and flush her middle ears. If that isn't enough to resolve the problem, Zoe will need surgery. Zoe is scheduled for the Otoscopy in August. Through every test and every appointment, Zoe has continued to fight, and bring joy with her sunny disposition and desire to be with her humans and canine foster siblings. At first, it was feared she had been hit by a car. But after examining her, the devoted veterinary team discovered something even more shocking. Her legs are bowed, having never developed properly, likely due to profound nutritional deficiencies during the most critical stages of her growth. For days, Jimmy wandered the streets carrying an enormous tumor on his neck.People spotted him but couldn't get close enough to help. Every day he remained out there, he was forced to live with the weight, discomfort, and uncertainty of a mass that continued to grow while he fought simply to survive. When ThisIsHouston learned about Jimmy's heartbreaking condition, volunteers immediately began searching for him. After an entire weekend of efforts, and with the incredible assistance of the Houston Police Department Northeast Division, Jimmy was finally brought to safety and rushed straight to the emergency hospital. For the first time in who knows how long, Jimmy no longer has to face this alone. Now the search for answers has begun. Veterinarians immediately performed an aspirate of the large mass on Jimmy's neck, which revealed round cells. While doctors suspect it could be a transmissible venereal tumor (TVT) or a plasmacytoma, it's too soon to know for certain. Jimmy still needs extensive diagnostics, including bloodwork, heartworm testing, fecal testing, a tear test, and skin cytology, so his veterinary team can determine exactly what they're dealing with and how best to help him. Right now, even the first 48 hours of diagnostics carry an estimated cost of $915 to $1,657—and that's before any treatment, chemotherapy, surgery, or additional medical care he may need once a diagnosis is confirmed. Despite everything he's endured, Jimmy is finally safe. He no longer has to search for food while carrying a massive tumor or wonder where he'll sleep each night. Jimmy has officially made it through surgery. We received the call from his surgeon and while the procedure was long and far more complicated than anyone anticipated, Jimmy did incredibly well. Once surgeons began operating, they discovered the massive tumor had an extensive blood supply and was tightly intertwined with the surrounding tissues. Removing it safely was an enormous challenge. Thankfully, the surgical team was able to preserve both Jimmy's jugular vein and another major vein that drains his shoulder. Because the tumor was so deeply attached, some surrounding muscle had to be removed to ensure the mass could be excised completely. During surgery, Jimmy's red blood cell count dropped, requiring a blood transfusion. His heart rate also became a concern at one point, but thanks to the team's quick intervention, he remained stable. By the end of surgery, his red blood cell count had returned to where it was before the procedure. The mass has now been sent to a laboratory for biopsy, and we expect results within the next 7–10 days. Incredibly, the tumor weighed 5.3 pounds. Just imagine carrying the weight of a bowling ball attached to your neck every single day. Because of your generosity, Jimmy never has to carry that burden again. The team also placed a surgical drain to aid his recovery, and while he was already under anesthesia, Jimmy was neutered as well—one more important step toward a healthier future. As Jimmy was waking up from anesthesia, he regurgitated and was placed on supplemental oxygen as a precaution. Thankfully, his oxygen levels have remained excellent at 99–100%, and his veterinary team is slowly weaning him off the oxygen while monitoring him closely over the next couple of days. Jimmy still has a road ahead of him. He needs continued hospitalization, pain management, medications, careful monitoring, and we're all anxiously awaiting the biopsy results that will determine what comes next. Unfortunately, instead of providing the clear answers we were hoping for, the results have left us with more questions. The biopsy confirmed the presence of mast cells, but the pathologist was unable to definitively identify the type of cancer Jimmy is battling. To get the answers he desperately needs, additional specialized stains have now been sent to a reference laboratory, with results expected to take another two to three weeks. At this point, Jimmy's veterinary team is considering several possible diagnoses, including a plasma cell tumor, transmissible venereal tumor (TVT), mast cell tumor, or lymphoma. Each of these cancers carries a very different prognosis and requires a completely different treatment plan, making an accurate diagnosis absolutely critical before moving forward. Rather than losing precious time while we wait, Jimmy's oncologist recommended beginning a treatment trial with L-asparaginase (L-spar), which Jimmy received today. If the medication reduces the amount of fluid draining from his surgical site and improves the condition of his skin, it could provide an important clue that lymphoma is the underlying cause. Jimmy's medical team is also concerned that his surgical drain continues to produce more fluid than expected. To ensure nothing is being overlooked, they've submitted a sample for bacterial culture to rule out a possible infection. We know this isn't the update everyone was hoping for. We wanted answers. We wanted certainty. Instead, we're facing another stretch of waiting while Jimmy continues to receive the specialized care he needs. But one thing hasn't changed: our commitment to this incredible dog. Jimmy survived life on the streets carrying a tumor that weighed more than five pounds. He endured major surgery, a blood transfusion, and a difficult recovery. Now he's facing another hurdle, and we refuse to stop fighting for him. His incision has healed well so his staples were removed. They were happy with how everything looked— there’s no redness, discharge, swelling or signs of infection. While his skin is still pretty flaky, he doesn’t appear to have an active infection so for now, we’ll continue using a medicated mousse until he’s able to have medicated baths. His lymph nodes are still mildly enlarged but have gotten slightly smaller and his skin looks calmer than before. Based on his improvement after the L-Spar treatment last week, his oncologist feels much more confident that Jimmy has cutaneous lymphoma but we’re still waiting on stain results from his biopsy to confirm a diagnosis. Jimmy started treatment with CCNU, an oral chemo medication he’ll receive once every three weeks. Most dogs respond well to chemo, but prognosis is about 6 months. Cutaneous lymphoma would be responsible for Jimmy’s widespread skin changes and flakiness. These issues may not completely resolve because they’re part of the cancer itself. but for now we’re hopeful Jimmy responds well to treatment and continues feeling better

Albert Has Suffered Long Enough—Help Him Finally Heal

When Albert arrived at NYC Second Chance Rescue, it was impossible to ignore the pain he had been carrying for far too long. Hidden beneath years of severe matting and neglect was a dog who had been silently suffering. As veterinarians carefully examined him, they uncovered one heartbreaking medical issue after another. Albert has painful ulcers in both eyes that make every blink uncomfortable. He is also battling a severe bacterial and yeast skin infection that has left his skin inflamed and irritated. On top of that, he has a heart murmur and bloodwork showing multiple concerning abnormalities, including elevated liver values, mildly elevated kidney values, inflammation throughout his body, electrolyte imbalances, and a borderline low thyroid level. While we're grateful that testing ruled out tick-borne diseases and intestinal parasites, doctors know there is still much more to uncover. They are now concerned that an underlying condition—such as Cushing's disease or hypothyroidism—may be contributing to everything Albert is facing. The next step is a comprehensive abdominal ultrasound to evaluate his liver, kidneys, adrenal glands, and other vital organs so his veterinary team can determine exactly what is causing these abnormalities and create the treatment plan he desperately needs. The good news is that Albert hasn't given up. Despite everything he has endured, he continues to eat well, accepts the care he's receiving, and greets his rescuers with a gentle, loving spirit that shines through his pain. Soon, we hope to move him into a dedicated medical foster home where he can continue healing surrounded by comfort, patience, and love. While that diagnosis may sound frightening, there is good news: his atrial valves are not enlarged, which means his heart is compensating well. At this time, his cardiology team has determined that he does not need heart medication, and they will continue to monitor his condition. His abdominal ultrasound also brought a wave of relief. The scan showed mostly age-related changes, and veterinarians have officially ruled out Cushing's disease—one of the biggest concerns they had when Albert first arrived. The only significant finding was an enlarged prostate, which will be addressed during his upcoming neuter surgery. Additional testing confirmed that Albert has hypothyroidism, and he has now started medication to help regulate his thyroid levels. With treatment, his veterinary team is hopeful this will improve many of the symptoms that have been affecting his overall health. Tomorrow marks another important milestone in Albert's recovery. He is scheduled to undergo both his neuter surgery and a much-needed dental procedure to relieve the years of pain caused by neglected teeth. Because these procedures require an extended period under anesthesia, his veterinarians will wait another one to two weeks before bringing him back to receive his vaccines, allowing his body time to recover safely. While Albert still has a journey ahead of him, today's update is filled with cautious optimism. Every diagnostic test has brought valuable answers, allowing his veterinary team to develop the best possible treatment plan.
