Every Breath Is a Struggle for Dior

Dior is a tiny, one-year-old Pomeranian with a huge personality and a dangerously fragile airway. He was found abandoned in poor condition by a senior volunteer with New York Cat Warriors. He had a severely matted coat and was covered in ticks and fleas. But the most frightening problem was something we could hear: a harsh, hoarse cough followed by episodes of gasping and labored breathing. Dior is a happy, affectionate little puppy who wants to play, explore and be close to people. But excitement and stress can make him pant heavily and struggle for air. Ordinary moments that should be joyful can become frightening because his airway cannot reliably remain open. Dior’s preliminary examination, bloodwork and chest X-rays have been completed. The radiology report confirmed collapse of his trachea where it enters his chest, along with collapse affecting some of his smaller airways. His condition also creates additional risk under anesthesia, particularly during recovery. Dior has now been referred to the specialists at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center for the advanced care he needs, including an anticipated tracheal stent procedure. The AMC estimates that Dior’s surgery will cost approximately $16,000. Right now, the costs are the obstacle standing between Dior and the specialty care that could allow him to breathe more safely and comfortably. Although New York Cat Warriors is ordinarily a cat rescue, we could not turn away this tiny abandoned dog when he needed help. We are a small, all-volunteer, foster-based organization with limited financial resources, and this balance is more than we can absorb without help. Dior is now safe in foster care with the volunteer who found him. She is seriously considering adopting him once his airway condition has been treated and he is medically cleared. Dior may already have the loving permanent home he deserves but first, we must help him breathe. Please help us raise the final costs needed to unlock Dior’s procedure. Tina Was Just a Kitten When Her Life Changed Forever 💔 At just three months old, Tina experienced unimaginable cruelty in Lebanon. Someone threw this innocent kitten into a pack of stray dogs, where she was viciously attacked. By the time she was rescued, her spine and both of her back legs were fractured. When Alyarz Pet Club found Tina, they rushed her to the veterinarian, determined to give her every possible chance at recovery. But her injuries were devastating. The damage to her spine left her unable to urinate on her own, and her tiny body faced a long, painful road ahead. Her rescuers refused to give up on her. Tina underwent multiple surgeries and extensive physiotherapy as her veterinary team fought desperately to save her legs. Through every procedure and every setback, they held on to the hope that she could recover without losing a limb. Sadly, despite their extraordinary efforts, veterinarians determined that amputation was the best option for Tina’s quality of life. It was a heartbreaking decision for the rescue that had fought so hard to save her leg, but their priority has always been giving Tina the best life possible. Now, Tina needs our help to continue her recovery. The amputation alone cost $300, and that doesn’t include her previous surgeries, veterinary care, or rehabilitation. Tina will also need additional physiotherapy to help her regain strength and mobility, with a package of just 10 sessions costing $420. Alyarz Pet Club has already taken on an enormous financial burden to save this little girl’s life. Winnie was shot in the head. And somehow, after everything she has endured, she still wants to be close to people.

Winnie showed up as a stray at someone’s home, painfully thin and unable to close her mouth. She couldn’t eat, and the people who found her feared she had been hit by a car. They made a liquid gruel, hoping they could get even a little nutrition into her, and reached out on Facebook for help. That’s when One By One Animal Rescue stepped in and rushed Winnie to Proctorville Animal Clinic. What the veterinary team discovered was heartbreaking. One side of Winnie’s face was infested with maggots. They were coming from inside her mouth, through her cheek, and had even spread between her toes. Her body was severely emaciated because she had been unable to properly eat. Then the X-rays revealed the unimaginable reason she couldn’t close her mouth. Winnie had been shot in the side of her head. The entry wound is still visible. The bullet remains lodged in her head, and the damage is devastating. Both sides of her jaw are broken, and some of her teeth and the tissues in her mouth have been badly damaged. We don’t know who shot Winnie. We don’t know why. We don’t know when it happened or how long this little dog survived on her own, unable to close her mouth or eat. We only know that somehow, she survived. The veterinary team carefully cleaned Winnie’s mouth and wounds while she was fully sedated, flushing the affected areas to remove the remaining maggots and treat the infection. And somehow, despite the horrific injuries she had endured, they discovered something miraculous: Winnie’s tongue was still intact. Just imagine how much pain she must have been in. Even biting your tongue can hurt terribly. Winnie had been living with both sides of her jaw broken, a gunshot wound to her head, severe wounds and starvation. And yet, when the veterinary staff cared for her, Winnie kept trying to move closer. She remains hospitalized and has a very long road ahead. Because her jaw is so badly damaged, her veterinary team has stabilized it with a tape muzzle to protect it until surgery. Since Winnie cannot safely eat on her own, a feeding tube has been placed so her severely emaciated body can finally receive the carefully controlled nutrition it desperately needs. And because Winnie finds so much comfort in having someone close, she was given a little stuffed puppy with a heartbeat inside. When a person can’t sit beside her, Winnie can feel that little heartbeat against her body. Yesterday, she was a stray suffering alone. Now, she is warm, receiving pain medication and nutrition, surrounded by people fighting for her—and falling asleep beside a heartbeat so she doesn’t have to feel alone. ❤️ If Winnie is strong enough, she is scheduled for a complex surgery Tuesday to repair her shattered jaw. Her surgeons may need to place a plate on one side and use wiring on the other. Her recovery will require continued hospitalization, nutritional support, pain management, monitoring and ongoing veterinary care. Winnie’s medical journey is going to be long. And it is going to be expensive. But Winnie hasn't given up. So neither will we. We want this little girl to know what it feels like to have a full belly. We want her to fall asleep in a soft bed without pain. We want her to discover treats and toys. We want her to experience gentle hands instead of cruelty. And most of all, we want to see that tiny tail wag become a whole-body wiggle. We cannot change the moments Winnie has already endured. But together, we can change the moments ahead of her. Help Senior Yvette Get the Care She Deserves Here in Texas, temperatures have been climbing above 100 degrees for weeks, with very little relief even at night. For stray cats living on the streets, the heat can be unbearable. Last night, one senior cat, who we named Yvette, made her way to us, and we knew we couldn't turn her away. Yvette is a senior girl who is sweet, exhausted, and clearly in need of help. She is not spayed, and she arrived sick and worn down after surviving on the streets. While we work to piece together her story and actively search for anyone who may be looking for her, we knew she needed help immediately. Yvette is now at our veterinarian receiving much-needed medical attention and a safe place to rest and recover. So far, Yvette has received subcutaneous fluids, full-panel bloodwork, a fecal test, an antibiotic injection, and steroids. She is currently taking another antibiotic to help treat her illness and the respiratory symptoms she is experiencing. If the antibiotics don't resolve her congestion and nasal discharge, she may need additional PCR testing to determine what is causing her symptoms. Yvette also has stomatitis, a painful inflammation of the mouth. Once she is stable and has gained some weight, she will need a dental procedure to address this condition. Her veterinary estimate is already $700, and her medical needs are likely to continue as we work to get this sweet senior girl healthy. A week ago, Dorje was starving on the streets. Tonight, she will finally go to sleep with a full stomach. When Soltis Hope Street Dog Rescue found Dorje, starvation had taken an unimaginable toll. She was skeletal, struggling to walk and covered from head to toe in mange, wounds and secondary infections. Her body had begun consuming its own muscle just to survive. Dorje was terrified. She had learned to fear people so deeply that rescuers spent more than an hour trying to gain her trust before finally bringing her to safety. At the clinic, she was too medically fragile to safely sedate and too frightened to let anyone near her. But just over a week later, something is changing. Dorje is walking better. Her skin is beginning to heal. Her body condition is improving. And slowly, she is realizing she doesn’t have to run anymore. Several times a day, food appears. No one asks anything from her. She can simply eat, rest and heal. Dorje still has a long road ahead. She needs continued wound care, treatment for mange and infections, careful nutrition, supplements, vaccinations, parasite treatment, deworming and, once she is strong enough, a spay. Stanley was just trying to survive. A kind woman began feeding him after he appeared outside her apartment building. Every day, he would come back to her for food. He knew she would help him, and little by little, he began to trust her. But not everyone wanted Stanley around. People in the apartment building began threatening that they would kill him. Then Stanley disappeared. For four terrifying days, the woman who had been caring for him couldn't find him. And then she discovered him lying beside the building — bleeding badly from his neck. His injuries were so severe that it appeared someone had tried to slit his throat. Stanley was rushed to the veterinarian, where he is now receiving treatment for his horrific injuries. And despite everything that has happened to him, there is something that makes Stanley's story even more heartbreaking: He is incredibly sweet. This precious boy is gentle and loving with people. He still seeks out human kindness after someone appears to have tried to hurt him. How could anyone look at this sweet baby and want to harm him? We may never understand what happened to Stanley or why someone would want to hurt an innocent animal who was simply trying to find food and survive. But we can make sure that what happened to him is not the end of his story. Paws & Claws Animal Welfare stepped in when Stanley needed help most. Owl Is Fighting to Survive After Unthinkable Cruelty

What happened to Owl was not simple neglect. It was prolonged, heartbreaking cruelty. Someone appears to have watched this beautiful dog slowly starve until she became so weak that she could no longer stand. Her nails grew horrifically long and curled beneath her paws. Sores developed across her skeletal body. Her tail became necrotic. And when she was finally abandoned, she was simply dumped on a Brooklyn sidewalk and left there. Owl was found near Owl’s Head Park unable to walk and barely strong enough to survive. Estimated to be just 5–7 years old, Owl may have spent years—possibly half of her life—with the person who allowed this to happen to her. Her condition tells the devastating story of prolonged starvation and suffering. When she arrived at NYC Second Chance Rescue, Owl was severely emaciated, extremely weak, and unable to stand. Her body was covered in pressure sores over the areas where bone protruded beneath her skin. Her nails were so severely overgrown and curled that they showed just how long she had been neglected. Her tail tip has become necrotic and ulcerated, and she may require surgery or even amputation. Bloodwork revealed significantly elevated liver enzymes, showing just how severely her body has been affected by prolonged starvation. Owl also has a heart murmur and severe dental disease, adding even more challenges to an already critical situation. Right now, Owl requires around-the-clock medical care and extremely close monitoring for refeeding syndrome. After prolonged starvation, simply giving a dog food again can be dangerous if it is not done carefully. Her veterinary team must slowly and cautiously nourish her while watching for potentially life-threatening complications. There are no guarantees that Owl will make it. If she does survive this critical period, she is facing weeks of hospitalization, intensive treatment, rehabilitation, and a long road toward rebuilding her strength. But for the first time in what may have been years, Owl has people fighting for her. And the rescue is also fighting for justice. They are seeking surveillance footage from cameras near Owl’s Head Park and the area where she was abandoned, hoping to identify the person responsible for what was done to her and hold them accountable. Owl never deserved this. She deserved food. She deserved medical care. She deserved a safe place to sleep. She deserved someone to protect her. Instead, she was allowed to waste away until she could barely stand—and then she was discarded. We refuse to let that be the end of her story. Her road to recovery will be long, expensive, and uncertain, but the rescue is determined to do everything possible to get Owl out of the woods and give her the life she should have had all along. At just 3½ weeks old, Auggie is already fighting for his life. Auggie is a tiny French Bulldog puppy born with a cleft palate, a serious birth defect that has made it difficult for him to eat safely and put him at risk for dangerous complications. But Auggie’s breeder made a decision that mattered enormously: they recognized that he was declining and called us for help. At the time, the breeder did not know Auggie had a cleft palate. They only knew that he had stopped eating and was rapidly losing weight. After receiving their call on Sunday night, we immediately began searching for rescue placement and transportation, despite being closed to new intakes. When we still could not find transportation by Monday morning, we made the four-hour drive ourselves to bring him to safety. When we finally got him, we knew he was critical. Auggie weighed just 250 grams. We were told he had stopped eating and was rapidly losing weight. When we examined him, we discovered the cleft palate that was preventing him from feeding normally. He was also experiencing significant respiratory congestion caused by constant regurgitation. Food and liquid had been entering his nasal passages instead of traveling safely into his digestive system, placing his fragile body at serious risk for aspiration and pneumonia. His little body had already been fighting SO hard—and it wasn't a fight he could survive alone. We immediately started Auggie on antibiotics and nebulizer treatments to help manage his respiratory issues. Because continuing to feed him was causing ongoing regurgitation, we also made the difficult decision to begin weaning him in an effort to protect his lungs and prevent his condition from becoming even more serious. Right now, we're taking Auggie one hour at a time. The next few days—and honestly, the next several weeks—will be critical for this little fighter. He needs intensive monitoring, veterinary care, medications, respiratory treatments, and the specialized care required to give his tiny body a chance to grow stronger. We said yes to Auggie because we believe his life is worth fighting for. Now we need our village to help us keep fighting alongside him. A Tiny Kitten Survived Unimaginable Cruelty. Now He Needs Us

This tiny kitten should have been safe beside his mother, learning how to play, explore, and grow. Instead, he was stolen from her and subjected to horrific abuse by children. Comet was hit in the eye, injured, and left separated from the only protection he knew. By the time Paws & Claws Animal Welfare received a request for help, this innocent baby was in desperate need of medical attention. They immediately rescued him and rushed him to a veterinary hospital. What the veterinary team found was heartbreaking. Little Comet's body temperature was dangerously low, and he was suffering from severe dehydration and extreme exhaustion. His eyes were badly swollen, and he could barely open them. Blood covered his tiny face, and the veterinary team worked to carefully clean away as much as they could. He was also bleeding from his nose and required injections to help control the bleeding. Because he was so weak and fragile, he was immediately admitted to the ICU, where the veterinary team is working around the clock to stabilize him and bring his body temperature back to normal. Right now, Comet is simply too fragile for additional testing. His little body needs time to stabilize before the veterinarians can safely perform the examinations necessary to understand the full extent of his injuries. We don't yet know everything Comet has endured or what his road to recovery will look like. We do know that he deserved none of this. He should have been with his mother. He should have been playing. He should have been loved and protected. Instead, he is fighting for his life in an ICU. Paws & Claws Animal Welfare stepped in because they refused to let this innocent kitten suffer any longer. Now they need our help to give him the medical care he needs to survive. His veterinary expenses are already mounting, and additional diagnostics, treatment, hospitalization, and care will be needed as his condition develops. At just five months old, sweet Carl was hit by a car and left with devastating injuries that required immediate, lifesaving veterinary care. As a young kitten, he should have been spending his days chasing toys and discovering the world, not fighting to survive. When we took Carl in at RU4ME Pet Rescue, we knew he was in serious trouble. When we took Carl in, we knew he was in serious trouble. His mouth had been degloved, meaning the tissue of his lower lip had been pulled away from the underlying tissue, leaving it badly injured. He also had broken teeth that needed to be removed, and his leg was so severely damaged that it had to be amputated. Carl underwent emergency surgery to give him the chance to survive and begin healing. His lower lip required sutures to reattach it, his damaged teeth were removed, and his injured leg was amputated. These were not optional procedures—they were the care Carl needed after being struck by a vehicle. Through it all, Carl has fought to keep going. At just five months old, he has already endured more pain and trauma than any kitten should ever have to experience. But thanks to the veterinary team who treated him, Carl is alive and has the opportunity to heal. We have already spent $1,241 on Carl’s lifesaving veterinary care, and now we need our community’s help to cover that expense. We hate having to ask for donations, but these are the emergencies that keep us going. When Vonda arrived in the care of Baw Baw Animal Welfare, she was suffering from severe wounds across her chest and front leg. Based on her history and the appearance of her injuries, the veterinary team believes Vonda’s wounds are burns. The damaged areas are extensive and painful, leaving her in need of careful wound management and continued veterinary attention as her body begins to heal. Thankfully, there is one encouraging piece of news: Vonda’s bloodwork did not show any significant abnormalities. Despite the condition of her wounds, her body is holding strong. Her veterinary team has begun treating the injured areas with appropriate medication and soothing wound care to protect her skin, prevent infection, and make her as comfortable as possible. Vonda was also found with a severe tick infestation, adding yet another challenge to her recovery. She has now received treatment to address that as well. Healing from injuries like Vonda’s won’t happen overnight. Her wounds will need continued dressing, monitoring, and care to ensure they heal properly and complications don’t develop. Hachi Was Hit and Left Bleeding, Alone and Hopeless

Hachi was found lying outside Marriott Hotel, bleeding helplessly on the road after a brutal road accident. He could not understand what had happened to him. He could not understand the speed, the impact, or why his body was suddenly in so much pain. All he knew was fear, blood, and the street beneath him while he waited for someone to notice that he was still alive. Thankfully, someone did though. On Friday, our helpline received the call about Hachi, but before we could even reach him, a kind soul had already stepped in. They did not look away. They did not leave him there to bleed. They took him to a nearby vet for basic treatment while waiting for us to arrive, and that small act of kindness may be the reason Hachi is still here today. When we reached him, our hearts broke. Hachi was badly injured and bleeding from his forehead, ears, and arm. The amount of blood he had lost was frightening. He was weak, scared, and in pain, and without timely help, we could have lost this innocent boy right there on the streets. That is how close it was. Now Hachi is safe, but he is not okay yet. His body is hurting, and his mind is still carrying the trauma of what happened. He needs treatment, wound care, pain medication, antibiotics, monitoring, follow-up care, and time to heal from an accident that could have ended his life. The streets are the only home so many animals know, but they do not understand roads. They do not understand speed. They do not understand that one careless moment can leave them bleeding, broken, and fighting to survive. Hachi was lucky that one person cared enough to stop. Baby Lexxi Escaped Euthanasia and Now Needs Help

At just 8 weeks old and only about 8 pounds, Lexxi came frighteningly close to losing her life before it had even really begun. Lexxi found herself on the euthanasia list at BARC in Houston due to her orthopedic needs. Montana’s Pack Rescue stepped up and saved her just in time when no one else would. This tiny puppy is finally safe—but now she needs help healing. Lexxi has an injury to her right hind leg that is causing her to noticeably limp. There is also a firm area of swelling near the top of her leg, raising concerns that she may be suffering from a dislocation or another orthopedic injury. She needs a thorough veterinary evaluation and imaging to determine exactly what is wrong and what treatment will give her the best chance at a pain-free future. It’s heartbreaking to think that a puppy this young was facing euthanasia while also struggling with an untreated injury. Lexxi should be learning how to play, exploring the world, and discovering what it feels like to be loved—not fighting for her life. Thankfully, Montana’s Pack Rescue said yes when Lexxi had no one else. They gave her the second chance she desperately needed, and now they are committed to getting her the medical care she deserves. Marco Was Left Behind - Now He’s Fighting for His Life Marco didn’t just lose his owner. He lost the only person who knew he was there. After his owner passed away, no one realized that 5-year-old Marco was still inside the home. For what was likely weeks, he was completely alone with no one coming to feed him, care for him, or even know that he was waiting. By the time Marco was finally discovered, he was barely hanging on. He arrived at the local shelter severely emaciated, with a body condition score of just 1 out of 10. He was quite literally skin and bones. He also had a massive abscess on his neck that required immediate draining. When Backwoods Barkers Rescue learned about Marco, we pulled him from the shelter and rushed him straight to the vet. His bloodwork showed just how critical his condition had become. Marco’s red blood cell count was only 9. A normal level should be around 40. He needed an emergency blood transfusion to save his life. Right now, our only concern is keeping Marco alive and helping his fragile body recover. His immediate care includes his blood transfusion, IV fluids, hospitalization, medications, continued bloodwork and treatment for the wound on his neck. And unfortunately, this is only the beginning. Marco is also heartworm positive, but he is far too weak to begin heartworm treatment. He needs time to heal and gain a significant amount of weight before his body can safely handle it. Once he is strong enough, he will also need to be neutered and continue treatment for everything his body has endured. Marco's total emergency care is estimated to be in the thousands, but right now we are taking his recovery one day at a time. What makes his story even harder to comprehend is the dog underneath all of this. Marco is incredibly sweet. After losing his owner, being left alone for weeks, nearly starving to death, developing a painful abscess, and now enduring hospitalization and a blood transfusion, he still wants love. Rudy Needs Us: Help This Sick Puppy Fight His Way Back

Meet Rudy. He’s just a puppy, but he has already endured more suffering than any little dog should ever know. Now, he needs our help to get his second chance. When This is Houston saw a post circulating about a puppy who had been found desperately ill and in need of help, they stepped up. Rudy was rushed to Vergi 24/7, where his condition was far more serious than anyone initially realized. Rudy had been so critically ill and unable to move that he had remained in one position for an extended period of time. As a result, he developed a severe pressure sore on his hip. A large area of hardened, dead tissue had formed over the wound and had to be removed, leaving very little healthy tissue behind. Depending on how the wound heals, Rudy may eventually need surgery to close it. He also has a painful wound over his knee. Thankfully, what initially appeared to be exposed bone turned out to be exposed tissue — but there is still very little healthy tissue available to cover the injury, meaning surgical closure may also be necessary. And sadly, the end of Rudy’s tail has become necrotic. A portion of his tail will need to be amputated. But despite everything his tiny body has been through, Rudy is fighting. His recovery has been slow, but he is making progress. Rudy has gained strength and is becoming more alert. He’s starting to show his personality, even barking at other patients as they pass his kennel. He’s showing more interest in standing, and while he still cannot walk, he is no longer the fragile little “noodle” he was when he arrived. He continues to receive range-of-motion exercises and is eating consistently every four hours. His wounds are receiving ongoing care, including specialized bandaging and hydrogel for the severe hip wound. And there is even more good news. Rudy tested negative for distemper. His bloodwork continues to improve. His temperature is staying stable, his blood sugar has remained steady, and his red blood cell count is holding at 21% following his transfusions. Most encouragingly, his white blood cell count has climbed from approximately 1.7 to 7.6 — a huge improvement from where this little puppy started. He has also been able to come out of the incubator, and his veterinary team has reduced some of the additives in his fluids as his body continues to stabilize. There is still a major hurdle ahead: Rudy’s albumin levels need to stabilize, and his wounds will require continued intensive care. His recovery may involve additional procedures, including possible surgical closure of his wounds and the necessary tail amputation. But every improved blood value matters. Every bark matters. Every attempt to stand matters. Rudy is still here. He is fighting. And now he needs us to fight alongside him. ThisisHouston stepped up when Rudy had nowhere else to turn. Milo Needs Help After a Urinary Blockage Nearly Took His Life

Just days ago, Milo was teetering on the brink of septic shock, and his veterinarian gave him only a 50/50 chance. This sweet, playful four year old cat was taken in by NY Cat Warriors as a stray in March 2026. Already neutered and ear tipped, Milo settled into foster care and even formed a special bond with another cat in his foster home. He seemed healthy and had a bright future ahead of him. Then, without warning, everything changed. Milo stopped eating normally and became increasingly lethargic. By August 22, his foster knew something was seriously wrong, and he was rushed to the emergency room. Vets discovered that Milo was suffering from a life threatening urinary blockage. Although they were able to clear the obstruction, his bloodwork revealed that his condition was even more dangerous than initially feared. Milo’s potassium had risen to a dangerously high level, putting him at risk of a potentially fatal heart arrhythmia. At the same time, his blood sugar had fallen dangerously low. In a cat with a urinary blockage, this unusual combination raised serious concerns about a severe infection and the possibility of septic shock. Milo was admitted to the ICU, where he required intensive treatment and monitoring. He received insulin to lower his potassium, dextrose to stabilize his blood sugar, antibiotics to fight infection, pain medication, and careful monitoring to make sure he did not become blocked again. For a frightening period of time, no one knew if Milo was going to make it. Thankfully, Milo has begun responding to treatment. His kidney values and potassium have improved, his blood sugar has become more stable, and he has started eating small amounts on his own. He has improved enough to leave the highest level of ICU care, but Milo is not out of this yet. He remains under veterinary care as his team watches closely to make sure his improvement continues and that he does not experience another blockage or complication. After coming so close to losing him, his rescue wants to make sure Milo receives everything he needs to safely continue his recovery. Saving his life has also come at an enormous cost. More than $7,000 has already been paid toward Milo’s emergency hospitalization, and his total veterinary expenses are expected to approach $10,000. For a small foster based rescue, one unexpected emergency of this magnitude has a tremendous financial impact. When Sabrina finally got help, her tiny body told a heartbreaking story. She weighed only 5 pounds — nothing but a skeleton of a frame beneath enormous, painfully swollen tissue from severe mastitis. Her infection was so advanced that it was hard to understand how she was still alive. Even harder to understand was how long she must have been suffering before someone finally asked for help. Sabrina had been seen outside as her condition became worse and worse. For mastitis to progress to this point, she had been living in tremendous pain for quite some time. Yet somehow, this tiny girl kept surviving. When a community member finally reached out, our friends at Clewiston Friends of Animals immediately got Sabrina to a veterinarian. Her infection was so severe that she had to remain hospitalized for an entire week. When she was finally stable enough to leave, we picked her up and promised her that she would never have to suffer alone again. But we didn't yet know the full story of what Sabrina had endured. After weeks of healing in our care, Sabrina suddenly became lethargic and developed a fever. With an infection as serious as hers had been, we couldn't wait. She was rushed back to the veterinarian, underwent additional testing and was started on another round of antibiotics. That's when X-rays revealed something that broke our hearts. Sabrina had a healed broken femur. All this time, we thought the mastitis explained the suffering she had endured. It didn't. This tiny, severely underweight kitty had also somehow survived a broken leg. We don't know exactly what happened to Sabrina before she came to us. What we do know is that a broken femur is incredibly painful — and hers had already healed by the time it was discovered. That means Sabrina had been out there surviving through that pain before she ever reached us. And as if that weren't enough for one little body, Sabrina is also blind in her left eye. She isn't even a year old. At an age when her biggest concern should have been chasing toys and finding the sunniest place to nap, Sabrina was trying to survive a severe infection, an injured leg, hunger and life outside with vision in only one eye. It just isn't fair. But if you met Sabrina today, you would never know how cruel life had been to her. She is one of the sweetest, funniest and most playful kitties we have ever cared for. She plays nonstop. She seeks out affection. She runs around with the joy of a kitty discovering that life can actually be GOOD. Sometimes it feels like she is making up for lost time. For perhaps the first time in her short life, nothing hurts. She doesn't have to search for food. She doesn't have to survive outside. She doesn't have to keep going on a broken leg. She can finally just be Sabrina. For the past two months, we have been helping put this little girl's body — and her life — back together. When Paws & Claws Animal Welfare Society found little Rocco on the streets two days ago, the tiny kitten was in heartbreaking condition. His rescuers immediately knew he needed urgent medical attention and rushed him to the hospital. Rocco's injuries are consistent with significant trauma. His eyes were severely swollen and protruding from their sockets, suggesting that he may have been injured or beaten. He also has a painful bruise on one of his hind legs that is making it difficult for him to walk normally. Despite everything he has been through, Rocco is now safe and receiving the care he desperately needs. He is currently on medications and eye drops to reduce inflammation, protect his injured eyes, and give them the best possible chance to heal. Sadly, his future vision remains uncertain. Rocco is currently blind, and his veterinary team cannot yet determine whether he will regain his sight. They will need to monitor his progress closely as his eyes heal before they can know what his long-term prognosis will be. For such a tiny kitten, this is an overwhelming amount to endure. She cared for her babies, but no one cared for her...

On March 13, 2026, a volunteer picked up a Cane Corso family from a north Texas animal shelter and drove them to safety, to a MAS Bully Rescue foster family in Bryan, Texas. The first two pictures we received of Mama Renata, as she affectionately became known, and her six babies painted a full picture: we were seeing a scared, neglected, and abused dog who would do anything if it meant her babies would be safe. She cowered over her babies, fearful for what may come, but brave enough to put herself in front of any potential harm. But getting Renata and her "Italian Roots" to Bryan was only the first hurdle. Soon after settling into her foster home, we quickly learned that Renata was fearful, reactive, and hesitant to trust. Never aggressive towards people, but incredibly apprehensive, you could tell this girl had been let down more times than not; making her untrusting of people. Medically, she came with a list... Extreme Emaciation (pouring all she had into her babies) High Heartworm Positive Intact (and needing an extensive spay) Severe damage from a long-term embedded collar After months of being the best mama, she watched as all of her babies found loving forever homes; while no one came for her. And when the rescue began to tackle her medical issues, the list continued to grow. On May 19th, Renata went in for her spay and corrective surgery to remove the extra skin and scar tissue around her neck, caused by the damage from the long-term embedded collar. That night, everything changed. From the moment her foster mom picked her up, it was clear something was wrong. Renata was experiencing excessive bleeding and oozing from her neck wounds, that continued to progress and worsen over the next several weeks. Under close veterinary supervision (by both our primary clinic and the practice who did her procedures), we watched as Renata's body began to reject the sutures and surgical corrections, experiencing severe wound dehiscence. Large globs of coagulated blood and clots were - literally - dropping from her neck, and she very clearly began to develop an infection. After multiple rounds of failed antibiotics, the surgical site failed entirely, leaving Renata with a large open wound. Testing of the surgical site found that Renata lives with MRS-P, a chronic, antibiotic resistant staph-infection; and after conducting an antibiotic susceptibility test, we learned that there were/are no safe antibiotic options for her. Now 3 months later, Renata's neck has finally "healed," although she is left with severe scar tissue and folds that become humid and yeasty when not cared for daily. And while the surgeon has offered to do a revision, we as a team have collectively decided to pass, knowing that the likelihood of Renata having complications moving forward is high. Renata is now, finally, starting her heartworm treatment (injections into her back); and, for a XL breed dog, are expensive. And these are only her medical needs. Renata would benefit greatly from training that would work on building her confidence, reducing her reactivity, and make her a more adoptable candidate. While MAS Bully Rescue actively works with Off Leash K9 - our preferred training partner - their programs are expensive, running $4,000 fair market; and discounted to $2,600 for the rescue. After her medical needs received almost no fundraising support, MAS Bully Rescue truly does not have the extra resources available to provide intensive training support. And every day that Renata sits in our program, is another day where a shelter dog loses a chance at a spot in our program. Will you please help us help Renata?

Wally is such a young boy, and he deserves the chance to grow up without living in pain. Then, suddenly, he wasn’t. They tested him for panleukopenia. Negative. They tested for Giardia. Positive. So they started treatment and hoped this little fighter would begin to bounce back. But Ben just kept getting weaker. They had to take him back to the vet. And this time, the panleuk test came back positive. Intensive hospitalization has begun, and this tiny 8-week-old boy now has a very long, very difficult road ahead of him. Ben has already fought so hard to make it this far. Alex has been fighting for his life for months, and after everything he has endured, he still needs help. Alex was originally found on the streets of Lebanon in terrible condition. He was severely dehydrated and emaciated, with painful ulcers inside his mouth. He was also diagnosed as FIV-positive. Since being rescued, Alex has been in and out of the hospital as his veterinary team searches for answers. His most persistent problem has been a severe, chronic ulcer on his tongue accompanied by excessive drooling. The inflammation and pain have made something as basic as eating incredibly difficult. Doctors eventually determined that Alex was also suffering from neuritis, believed to be related to a previous traumatic injury to his face. The nerve damage makes it difficult for him to control his tongue and mouth, causing his tongue to hang out and leaving him drooling constantly. The moisture has also caused painful irritation to the skin around his face and discoloration of his fur since he is unable to groom himself. Veterinarians have tried everything they can to give Alex relief. He has undergone multiple dental extractions, extensive diagnostic testing, repeated cultures, several courses of antibiotics and supportive care. At one point, Alex needed a feeding tube so his mouth could rest while he continued receiving nutrition. Unfortunately, his painful tongue lesion and inflammation have persisted despite treatment. Now Alex is facing another serious setback. Recent bloodwork revealed that his hematocrit had fallen to just 11.3%, leaving him severely anemic and potentially in need of a blood transfusion. His white blood cell count was also significantly elevated, indicating that his body is continuing to battle severe inflammation or another underlying problem. Alex has once again been hospitalized, where he is receiving IV support and vitamins while his veterinary team works to stabilize him and determine what is causing his worsening anemia. After months of hospital stays, procedures, medications, testing and around-the-clock care, Alex’s medical expenses continue to grow. His rescuers have never given up on him, but they cannot do this alone. We are hoping to raise at least $3,000 to help cover Alex’s ongoing hospitalization, diagnostic testing, medications and supportive care. Alex has already survived so much. He was rushed straight to an emergency veterinary hospital, where he has remained hospitalized as the veterinary team works around the clock to save his life. Timmy’s condition is extremely serious, and right now, there are still more questions than answers. His veterinarians are concerned that he could be suffering from diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), sepsis, pancreatitis, or potentially a combination of these devastating conditions. His glucose levels have improved with treatment, but Timmy remains incredibly weak. His organs are enlarged, and he is currently so debilitated that he cannot even bear weight on his legs. CH affects coordination and balance, leaving Francis wobbly and unsteady on his feet. For a tiny kitten navigating cars, predators, and the countless dangers of life outdoors, surviving on his own was almost unimaginable.Thankfully, someone noticed Francis and reached out for help. When he entered rescue Wild Whiskers Inc., his CH was obvious—but his caregivers quickly realized something else was wrong. Francis appeared increasingly neurological and began declining. Eventually, he stopped getting out of bed. Bloodwork revealed just how serious things had become: his sodium was off the charts. His rescue team knew they couldn't give up on this tiny baby. With help from his veterinary team, Francis began an intensive treatment plan that includes twice-daily subcutaneous fluids and oral medications at home. His bloodwork has started improving—and even more encouragingly, Francis started playing again. For the first time, this little fighter began acting like the kitten he was always meant to be. Francis also receives weekly ozone treatments as part of his ongoing supportive care, and his rescue has already spent significantly on diagnostics, bloodwork, treatments, and other veterinary expenses. Some kittens are born into this world with every advantage. Genevieve wasn't. Before she ever had a chance to explore, play, or simply be a carefree kitten, she was fighting for her life. After suffering a devastating seizure, advanced imaging revealed what even specialists rarely see. Genevieve was born with Diplomyelia, an extraordinarily rare congenital condition that caused her spinal cord to split into two instead of developing as one. Her body struggles to coordinate movement, and she cannot fully control her bladder or bowels. The heartbreaking discoveries didn't stop there. Large portions of the areas of her brain responsible for movement and reflexes never fully formed. Because her condition is structural, there is no surgery that can fix it. Her neurologists and her caregivers at Flopsy’s Friends developed one goal: keep Genevieve comfortable, seizure free, and give her every opportunity to enjoy the life she deserves. And Genevieve has exceeded every expectation. Every milestone has been hard earned. She learned to stand and eat on her own with a specially designed feeding setup. She began grooming herself, a victory that most people would never think twice about. With medications, physical therapy, laser therapy, acupuncture, rehabilitation, and endless love, she has become stronger, steadier, brighter, and more determined every single day. She has slowly been able to reduce her prednisone dose, her eyes have become more focused, her coat has started growing back, and she continues proving that she is so much more than her diagnosis. Out of nowhere, she became critically ill and was rushed to emergency care after developing a high fever and severe breathing difficulties. Doctors diagnosed pneumonia. Imaging also revealed a small amount of free fluid that now requires evaluation by a cardiologist to rule out any underlying heart disease. Her little body is fighting so hard. Her fever returned, and her white blood cell count soared to 38,000, more than double what it should be, showing just how hard her immune system is working. Thankfully, oxygen therapy has helped her breathe more comfortably, but she still needs specialized care, additional diagnostics, medications, and ongoing monitoring. Watching Genevieve struggle is heartbreaking. She can't tell us what hurts. She can't explain what she needs. All she can do is keep fighting. And she does. Every single day. Genevieve has never given up, and neither will we. For now, her veterinary team believes these issues can be monitored with annual echocardiograms. Unfortunately, her appointment also brought a new and concerning discovery. An ultrasound showed a large mass in Genevieve’s abdominal area, something that had also been noted during her recent emergency hospitalization. Her platelet count is also dangerously low at just 38,000, which is especially concerning for a kitten who already struggles with balance and is more prone to stumbling. Flopsy’s Friends is now working to get Genevieve an urgent abdominal ultrasound, and she may need to return to the emergency hospital to have it done as quickly as possible. Genevieve is also still running fevers, struggling to urinate, experiencing significant bloating, and dealing with persistent ear infections. Her little body is clearly struggling, and she urgently needs answers and continued medical care. For now, Genevieve is happy to be back home. She even cried a little during her echocardiogram, which is unusual for this normally quiet girl, but she was such a trooper through it all. After everything he has already been through, we truly believed his future was finally looking bright. Blueberry was recently hospitalized at an emergency veterinary hospital suffering from a serious blockage. His condition was painful, dangerous, and life-threatening, and he needed emergency surgery to remove the obstruction. We were able to put up some of the money to help with his surgery because we could not let him go without the care he needed. But that expense has added to the financial strain on our rescue, and we need your help to replenish those funds so we can continue saving other animals who need us. Refusing to let Teddy's story end there, the rescue pulled him from the shelter and rushed him for emergency veterinary care. While Teddy is finally safe, his fight is only beginning. Initial bloodwork revealed several alarming abnormalities, including an elevated white blood cell count, low blood glucose, and elevated kidney values, all signs that his body is battling something serious. He remains weak, depressed, and has very little interest in food. His veterinary team has ordered extensive diagnostic testing to determine exactly how much damage the unknown chemical may have caused and what treatment he needs moving forward. Teddy's caregivers are doing everything they can to encourage him to eat. So far, he's only managed a few tiny bites of food. He nibbled on a piece of chicken nugget, but not even enough to finish one. He'll take a short walk outside, but the little energy he has quickly disappears. Once back inside, he quietly returns to his bed, getting up only when absolutely necessary. His heart rate also remains dangerously low, and his veterinarians are closely monitoring him while they await the results of more advanced bloodwork that will help guide the next phase of his treatment. Despite how sick he feels, Teddy's sweet personality is still shining through. He even managed to wag his tail—a small but beautiful reminder that he's still fighting. No dog should come this close to losing their life simply because they need medical care. Blueberry needed an emergency amputation. Without hesitation, the rescue agreed to let surgeons quickly remove what remained of his severely damaged leg. The surgery was successful, and Blueberry is now beginning the difficult road to recovery. While the worst of the trauma is behind him, his journey is far from over. Now, they are permitted to speak and the truth is horrifying. Blueberry was seized through the court system, and his former owner is facing animal cruelty charges. Investigators do not believe that Blueberry lost his leg in a lawnmower accident. They believe he was intentionally attacked by a human and that his leg was deliberately severed. We know how difficult this is to read. We want our community to understand that we initially shared the only information legally available to us. Investigations like this cannot be compromised, because justice and ensuring that animal abusers are held accountable must remain the priority. Years of Neglect No More

Mozart was found in a busy city in Rhode Island. Founder called animal control and when they arrived they couldn't believe their eyes. She thought he was dead. The ACO spent 4 hours trying to clean him and when she did she released a knot near his leg and when she did his leg just fell. His leg was so matted it cut off circulation that his leg became necrotic. When he was half shaved he was soaked with urine. This is the worst case of neglect the ACO ever seen. He spent the night at Ocean State Emergency Hospital in East Greenwich, RI. He received blood work tests, antibiotics, fluids, sedated shave down and full body cleaning. Blood work test stated white blood cells elevated and anemic. His back leg was accessed and it will need amputation once infections are cleared. He is currently on pain patch and will not be discharged until we have his doctor has pain management in place. Please consider helping this boy Mozart Augusta. UPDATE: Mozart is home resting and will be seeing a Primary Vet for pain management and leg amputation. He is also losing part of his right foot due to bone corrosion and testing for possible cancer. 8/4/26 Update: More care needed As time goes on and the more and more diagnostics are done to Mozart we are finding a very bad past. His front paw is fractured and needs a baby toe amputated as well as his leg. He has what appeared as a broken tail but that has healed at a right angle. Despite his trauma he is loving the attention of kindness. We have a lot more work to do for him.

At some point before he was rescued, this gentle dog was brutally attacked by other dogs, leaving him with severe bite wounds across his neck, ear, and the back of his head. No one knows how long he suffered before help arrived, but by the time Amici Cannis found him, his injuries were extensive and incredibly painful. The veterinary team immediately began treating his wounds with an emergency cleaning to remove damaged tissue and reduce the risk of infection. Unfortunately, because the injuries are so deep and located around his face and head, one treatment simply isn't enough. Conejito now requires repeated wound cleanings every two to three days to give his body the best chance to heal. These procedures are essential, but they are also extremely painful. Because of the sensitive location of his injuries, Conejito must be sedated for each treatment so the veterinary team can thoroughly clean the wounds without causing him unnecessary fear or suffering. Sedation allows his doctors to carefully remove unhealthy tissue, monitor for infection, and help healthy tissue grow so his wounds can finally begin to close. Without continued treatment, Conejito faces a much greater risk of serious infection, delayed healing, and prolonged pain. Amici Cannis refused to let this sweet dog suffer alone. When rescuers brought Nova to safety, they discovered that she wasn't injured from a car accident, as many had feared. Instead, Nova has cerebellar hypoplasia (CH), a neurological condition that affects her balance and coordination. Cats with CH can live long, happy lives indoors, but on the streets, where every step can mean dodging traffic or escaping predators, her condition made survival incredibly dangerous. But then we learned that Nova had endured something even more heartbreaking. A BB was found lodged in her body. Someone shot this tiny, vulnerable cat with a BB gun. We can't stop thinking about what that must have looked like—this sweet girl already struggling to walk, wobbling through the streets, barely able to survive and find enough food, only to be hurt even further by someone who chose to shoot her. It absolutely shattered our hearts. And yet, Nova kept going. Her challenges didn't end there. During her initial veterinary examination, doctors discovered dangerously high pressure in one of her eyes. A veterinary ophthalmologist confirmed that Nova is permanently blind in that eye because of glaucoma. The eye cannot be saved, and the painful pressure has been affecting her every single day. Nova has also already been through so much of what no cat should have to endure. Veterinarians discovered that she had previously given birth to kittens. It's difficult to imagine this fragile little cat, struggling to walk and survive outdoors while carrying a litter, giving birth, and trying to care for her babies—all while living with a painful, blind eye. Thankfully, Nova has now been spayed, so she will never have to endure that hardship again. We thought we were almost at the finish line. Nova's veterinary specialists recommended an enucleation to remove her painful, damaged eye. Because she is already blind in that eye, the surgery will not take away vision. Instead, it will eliminate the painful pressure she has been forced to live with and spare her from a lifetime of stressful daily eye medications. We were hoping that once her eye was removed, Nova's major medical needs would finally be behind her. Unfortunately, we learned that she has another painful problem that cannot be ignored. Nova's dental disease is extensive. She has resorptive lesions and multiple broken teeth, which means she is also experiencing significant dental pain. She will need a dental surgery to remove the damaged teeth and address the disease in her mouth. Her eye surgery and dental surgery must be performed separately because of the risk of bacteria associated with oral surgery and eye surgery. That means one more procedure—and one more expense—for this little survivor. We are so close to giving Nova the comfortable, pain-free life she deserves. Wild Whiskers has already spent hundreds of dollars on Nova's emergency veterinary care, diagnostics, vaccinations, examinations, and specialist care. We are now raising funds for her enucleation, biopsy, and the dental surgery she desperately needs. If enough funds are raised, her removed eye will also be sent for biopsy. Parm has been diagnosed with immune-mediated dry eye, a lifelong condition that will require daily medication to keep him comfortable. Parmesan also underwent dental surgery to give him a fresh start. Years of advanced periodontal disease had caused severe gum recession, and veterinarians had no choice but to remove six painful teeth to relieve his suffering. Although his surgeries went well, there are still challenges ahead. Veterinarians have confirmed that Parmesan has no vision, and he will need ongoing monitoring of his eyes, repeat bloodwork to evaluate mildly elevated liver enzymes, lifelong eye medication, and continued follow-up care as he adjusts to his new life. When Finn was trapped at a junkyard colony in March, everyone believed he would simply be another trap-neuter-return cat. But the moment rescuers from Clewiston Friends of Animals, Inc. saw him, they knew his story would be different. Finn's fragile body told the story of a cat who had suffered for far too long. He was covered in painful, severe mange, his eyes were infected, and open wounds covered his skin. He was far too sick to undergo surgery, so instead of returning him to the colony, his rescue team focused on giving him something he had likely never known before: safety, comfort, and medical care. By the very next morning, Finn surprised everyone. Rather than the fearful feral cat they expected, he revealed himself to be incredibly affectionate, gentle, and grateful to finally be safe indoors. It didn't take long for him to capture everyone's hearts. Over the following months, Finn made remarkable progress. His skin healed, his wounds disappeared, and he was finally healthy enough to be neutered. During his recovery, veterinarians also discovered that Finn is FIV-positive. Knowing he would be much safer living indoors, his rescuers made the decision that he would never have to return to the junkyard. Instead, Finn settled into the indoor life he clearly adored while patiently waiting for the loving family he deserves. Just as his future was beginning to look bright, another devastating setback struck. Finn suddenly became lethargic, began vomiting, and stopped acting like himself. He was rushed to the emergency veterinarian, where diagnostic testing revealed his blood sugar had skyrocketed to over 600 and ketones were present—a life-threatening diabetic crisis. As if that weren't enough, Finn was also diagnosed with pancreatitis, a painful condition requiring immediate treatment. Finn was hospitalized right away and is expected to remain under intensive veterinary care for several days while doctors work to stabilize both his diabetes and pancreatitis. He is receiving IV fluids, antibiotics, medications, and around-the-clock monitoring to give him the best chance at recovery. Once he is stable enough to return to his foster home, Finn will require lifelong insulin therapy, a prescription diet, and careful monitoring to keep his diabetes under control. While this diagnosis will change his daily routine, it doesn't change who Finn is—a resilient, loving cat who has already overcome so much. When he arrived, his blood sugar and blood pressure were dangerously low, and his tiny body had become cold. Every minute mattered. The veterinary team provided emergency care, stabilized him, and gave this little fighter the chance he desperately needed. Thanks to their quick action, Frankenstein survived. Friendly, trusting, and especially fond of children, Kusha spent his days quietly surviving on the streets, relying on the kindness of those who stopped to feed him. Then, in a single heartbreaking moment, everything changed. A week ago, Kusha was found convulsing in the middle of town near a church. His back legs had already become paralyzed, but somehow, despite unimaginable pain, he dragged himself to the home of a man who occasionally fed him. By the following day, his front legs had stopped working as well. Unable to help financially, the man reached out to Big Little Life Animal Rescue International, desperate to save his friend. Kusha was rushed to the emergency veterinary hospital, where doctors discovered he was suffering from severe poisoning that had left him completely paralyzed. He was immediately hospitalized and began intensive treatment, including IV fluids, medications, an antidote commonly used in suspected tuberculosis medication poisoning, and around-the-clock supportive care. For nearly a week, there was little improvement, and every day felt uncertain. Then, at last, Kusha gave everyone a reason to hope. His body has finally begun responding to treatment. While he remains critically ill and has a long road ahead, that small sign of progress means he has not given up—and neither have we. As more information came to light, the heartbreaking truth emerged. The day before Kusha became ill, witnesses reported that a woman became angry after two homeless dogs barked at her while she was walking her own dog. The following day, she returned carrying food intended for those strays. Kusha had not been involved in the earlier encounter. He simply wandered over first and eagerly ate the food before the other dogs could reach it. It is believed the food had been laced with tablets used to treat tuberculosis—medication that can be fatal to dogs. Kusha was an innocent victim. Today, he continues to fight for his life. He still requires hospitalization, medications, constant monitoring, and will likely need extensive rehabilitation as doctors work to determine how much movement he can regain. He still needs hospitalization, IV fluids, medications, vitamins, catheter care, more tests, and most likely rehabilitation. He is finally moving in the right direction. Please help us keep Kusha receiving the treatment he needs. Every day matters right now. 8/14/26 Update: KUSHA IS WALKING Kusha’s treatment has continued with IV fluids, medications, vitamins, and close monitoring. He has remained weak, and his back legs were still not responding normally. But finally, Kusha walked. His steps are unsteady and he is still very weak, but he got up and moved on his own legs. He also peed and pooped by himself, something he had not been able to do since the poisoning. This is real progress. Kusha still needs more IV treatment, medications, monitoring of his bladder and urinary infection, and time to rebuild strength and coordination in his legs. He is not fully recovered, but today he showed us just how far he has already come. I will never understand people who look at a homeless dog and decide his life does not matter. How does someone think it is okay to hurt a living being simply because no one is standing beside him. And then there are people who stop and do what they can. Today, they're finally beginning to play, explore, and discover what it means to feel safe. But just a few weeks ago, Roro, Livvy, Joey, Eli, Issac, and Maddie, lovingly dubbed The McGhee 6 by Sweet Onion Kitten Club, were simply trying to survive. The six kittens came from a home with a large cat colony where they had little to no human contact. Terrified, painfully sick, and victims of heartbreaking neglect, they arrived in rescue completely feral and in desperate need of help. What happened to their eyes was entirely preventable. They developed severe upper respiratory infections, essentially a "kitty cold," that caused thick discharge to seal their eyes shut. When a kitten's eyes can't drain, pressure builds as infection spreads, causing the eyes to swell until they rupture. All these babies needed was someone to care enough to gently clean their faces and keep their eyes draining while they recovered from their colds. Instead, they suffered in silence until the damage became irreversible. The damage has affected each kitten differently. Sweet Maddie appears to be completely blind. The others seem to be able to see at least shadows, offering hope that they still have some vision despite everything they've endured. Issac's eyes remain cloudy but are otherwise looking healthy, while Joey is still being closely monitored as his veterinary team watches to see how his eyes continue to heal. After just 10 days of antibiotics, gentle face washes, regular meals, clean bedding, and countless prayers, the transformation began. Their appetites returned, the infections started responding to treatment, and tiny bursts of playful energy began appearing on the kitten cam. For the first time, each kitten's unique personality started to shine through as they learned that people could be trusted. It's been about three weeks since they were rescued, and they've made incredible progress. The latest update has brought a glimmer of hope. Thanks to the dedicated care they've received, their eyes are looking better than expected, and their veterinary team has decided to hold off on surgery for now. While this is wonderful news, they're not out of the woods yet. The damage to their eyes is still significant, and surgery may still become necessary if their condition changes. For now, the McGhee 6 will continue receiving the specialized veterinary care, medications, and close monitoring they need as their team works to give them the very best chance of healing. Their rescue has already poured countless hours, endless compassion, and significant medical care into saving these little lives. Time Is Running Out for Twyla's Cleft Palate Repair

Twyla has already fought harder than any kitten ever should. Now she needs your help one more time. When Twyla was born at the rescue after her pregnant mother was saved, she was much smaller than her siblings. She struggled to nurse, lost weight, and her future was uncertain. The rescue quickly discovered why: she was born with a cleft palate, an opening in the roof of her mouth that made it impossible for her to nurse normally. Every attempt to eat or drink put her at risk because food and liquid could pass into her respiratory system instead of her stomach. From the moment they realized something was wrong, the dedicated volunteers at It's Meow or Never for Ferals refused to give up on her. Skilled caregivers worked together around the clock, tube feeding Twyla every two to three hours, day and night, to keep her alive. Their incredible dedication gave this tiny kitten the chance she deserved. Slowly, Twyla grew stronger. She tripled her weight, filled the rescue with tiny purrs, and showed everyone just how spirited she was. Even with a cleft palate, she never stopped trying to eat and drink like every other kitten. She embraced life with determination, spending her days playing with her siblings, snuggling with her mom, and charming everyone she met. At just the right age, Twyla underwent the specialized cleft palate repair surgery she desperately needed. It was a huge milestone, and for the first time in her life, she got to enjoy soft, wet food. It was something most cats take for granted, but for Twyla, it was a dream come true. Sadly, that victory didn't last. At her four week follow up appointment, after she began sneezing frequently and pawing at her face, specialists confirmed the heartbreaking news: part of the repair had reopened. Fortunately, Twyla isn't in pain, and there is no damaged or dying tissue. Her surgeon explained that this is a known complication of cleft palate repairs, and revision surgery is often necessary to achieve a lasting repair. Now Twyla urgently needs a second surgery. Because there is only a limited window while she is still young enough for successful cleft palate repair, time is incredibly important. Until the revision surgery is completed, she has had to go back to eating carefully prepared kibble instead of the wet food she had finally been able to enjoy. Every day she has to wait is another day without the normal life she's worked so hard for. Abandoned and Injured, Matilda Still Has Hope

Matilda should never have been left to suffer alone. She was found wandering a rural gravel road near Bethany, Missouri, painfully underweight and unable to use one of her front legs. Her ankle is severely swollen, frozen in place, and contracted from what appears to be an old injury that was never treated. Every step she takes is a reminder of the pain she has been forced to endure. A local canine officer safely secured Matilda and cared for her because the small local pound was unable to comfortably accommodate a dog of her size. It also appeared that Matilda had given birth to multiple litters of puppies during her life. After years spent caring for others, she was left alone when she needed help the most. Although a nearby resident believed they knew where she came from, the suspected owners denied that she belonged to them. Her full story may never be known, but it is heartbreakingly clear that she was abandoned. Now safe with Upper Midwest Great Dane Rescue, Matilda is finally receiving the love and compassion she has always deserved. Despite everything she has been through, she has remained incredibly gentle, affectionate, and trusting. She has settled into her foster home beautifully and is soaking up every bit of kindness she's offered. But Matilda's journey to recovery is only beginning. She urgently needs to see a veterinary orthopedic specialist, undergo advanced imaging to determine the extent of the damage, and receive specialized surgery. At this point, her medical team does not yet know if her leg can be repaired or if amputation will be the best option to give her a comfortable, pain free life. In addition to the severe orthopedic issues affecting her front leg, veterinarians discovered an abdominal mass, a possible mammary tumor, and that Matilda is anemic. Right now, her doctors are focused on keeping her comfortable, managing her pain, and closely monitoring her bloodwork in hopes that her anemia will improve enough for surgery. Matilda's front leg has likely never functioned normally, either because of a birth defect or an injury she suffered very early in life. Because Great Danes carry most of their weight on their front limbs, relying almost entirely on one healthy front leg for so long has placed tremendous strain on the rest of her body. That extra stress is now affecting her remaining front leg as well as her spine, making her mobility even more challenging. If her bloodwork improves as hoped, Matilda is expected to undergo exploratory abdominal surgery during the second week of August. This procedure will help her veterinary team determine the cause of the abdominal mass and develop the best treatment plan for her moving forward. Despite everything she's facing, Matilda hasn't lost her gentle spirit. She continues to greet everyone with kindness, soaking up affection and reminding everyone around her just how resilient she is. Her road to recovery has become longer than anyone anticipated, but Upper Midwest Great Dane Rescue is committed to giving her every chance at a comfortable, happy future. Matilda received some new presents, including a comfortable bed and toys of her own. They may seem like simple things, but for a dog who was found abandoned, severely underweight, struggling to walk, and facing multiple serious medical concerns, having a soft place to rest and a few things to call her own means a little more. Matilda’s last evaluation revealed that her medical situation was far more complicated than originally expected. In addition to the severe orthopedic condition affecting her front leg, her vets discovered an abdominal mass, a possible mammary tumor, and anemia. Her medical team is closely monitoring her bloodwork while working to determine when she will be stable enough to move forward with additional procedures. Her new bed and toys don’t erase the serious challenges she is facing, but they can make the difficult days a little more comfortable. She is home, and her first surgery went smoothly! One of the biggest concerns was a possible mass that had been discovered during her earlier evaluation. Thankfully, there is now some very reassuring news: no mass was found, and there is no cancer. Instead, it was determined that one of Matilda’s kidneys is slightly enlarged and positioned higher in her abdomen than expected. This will need to be monitored moving forward, but everyone is incredibly relieved that the frightening possibility of cancer has been ruled out. There is more good news, too. Her bloodwork and anemia are improving with regular meals and proper nutrition, and she continues to get stronger as her body recovers. And while Matilda has been recovering, she has made a very special new friend named Six! There may be quite a size difference between the two, but that certainly hasn’t stopped them from becoming best buddies. Six may be tiny, but she has a big personality and has no problem keeping up with Matilda. The two spend their days playing together, sharing toys, curling up in the same bed, and keeping each other company. Six has even figured out that climbing onto the recliner gives her a little height advantage during playtime! Watching their friendship develop has been such a sweet part of Matilda’s recovery, and having a little companion around seems to be making her time at home that much more enjoyable. There are still some decisions to be made about what comes next for Matilda’s leg and a few of her other medical needs, so her journey isn’t over just yet. Three Days in an Oxygen Chamber Saved Sturgeon's Life

Sturgeon has already survived more than any puppy ever should. When Sturgeon was only five weeks old, his mother was tragically killed, leaving him and his littermates alone to survive without food, shelter, or water. Thankfully, Beagles and Bentleys stepped in, rescuing the orphaned puppies and providing the love, care, and medical attention they desperately needed. As Sturgeon grew stronger, his playful personality began to shine. He proved to be an intelligent, curious, and spunky Great Pyrenees mix with his whole life ahead of him. Then, just as everything seemed to be falling into place, disaster struck again. Only 10-12 weeks old, Sturgeon suddenly became ill with kennel cough. His condition deteriorated rapidly as the infection progressed into a severe case of bacterial pneumonia. He was rushed to the emergency vet, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit and placed in an oxygen chamber for three days while his medical team fought to save his life. Sturgeon required around the clock emergency care, oxygen therapy, IV medications, and constant monitoring. His tiny body was working overtime just to breathe. Thankfully, this brave little puppy never gave up. After days of intensive treatment, Sturgeon pulled through. He was determined to be well enough to leave the hospital and continue his recovery with the loving family who had just begun an adoption trial before he became sick. Sturgeon's emergency hospitalization resulted in nearly $10,000 in unexpected veterinary expenses. As a nonprofit rescue, Beagles and Bentleys never hesitates to say yes when an animal needs lifesaving care, but emergency cases like Sturgeon's place a tremendous strain on their resources. Benny is only four months old, but he’s already endured more pain than any puppy ever should. This sweet little boy arrived at an overcrowded California shelter over 4th of July weekend as a stray with a badly broken leg. Alone, frightened, and injured, Benny faced an uncertain future in a shelter where resources are stretched thin and time is never on a vulnerable puppy’s side. Thankfully, Super B Foundation stepped in before it was too late and Benny was immediately evaluated by a veterinarian. For the next three weeks, Benny must remain as still as possible in a cast—a nearly impossible task for a playful, growing puppy. After that, he’ll return for repeat X-rays to see if the bone is healing correctly. Every two weeks he needs to have his bandages redone and be checked for pressure sores - costing the rescue $600 each visit. If his leg isn’t improving, amputation may be his only option. No matter what the next X-rays reveal, Benny’s journey isn’t over. He will need ongoing veterinary care, follow-up appointments, pain management, and careful monitoring until his leg has fully healed and he’s finally able to run and play like every puppy deserves. Joey's future is brighter today because compassionate people chose to give him a chance. This tiny kitten—originally thought to be a little girl named Josie but now known as Joey—was found with part of his leg cut off. He already came through his amputation surgery with flying colors. At just 10 weeks old and weighing only 2 pounds, he's already overcome more than most animals ever should. He's still hospitalized, but if everything continues to go well, he'll be heading to his foster home tomorrow. His injured leg has been removed, and thanks to IV antibiotics, pain medication, and exceptional veterinary care, Joey is already feeling better.
