Benji

Benji is a 1 year old Mix-Breed in Huntington, WV, who needs $2,000 for Orthopedic Surgery to Repair Multiple Fractures.

Huntington, WV • Western West Virginia Animal Rescue Alliance

Early one morning a kind woman found Benji broken and bleeding, in horrible pain on the side of a busy road. His body was twisted, his legs were mangled, and blood had pooled beneath him. The woman struggled to load Benji into her car, and raced the trembling pup to a vet, but it was still so early in the morning that the clinic wasn’t open. The woman was panicked because the pup was in pain. The woman called our shelter and I immediately sent Benji to the Proctorville Animal Clinic. His injuries were severe. The orthopedic specialist determined that his back was intact, but both of his hind legs were broken. One leg had an open wound compound fracture as well as two additional broken bones, and the femur was completely out of the hip socket on the other leg. Benji’s condition is agonizing, yet even through the trauma, he looks up at his caregivers with trust and love as if he knows they’re trying to help him. Watching this sweet, brave dog suffer is heart wrenching. He’s barely a year old, just starting life, and now faces surgery, and months of rehabilitation and recovery before he’ll ever run or play again. Benji’s care comes at a steep cost. Between extensive surgery, hospitalization, and post-op care, his total veterinary fees will far exceed what our small 501(c)(3) rescue can afford. We need your support to get Benji through this ordeal. Help us give Benji a chance at the life he deserves.

2/5/26 FINAL UPDATE ON RYE 🐾 Thankfully, XRY has confirmed that Rye did not suffer any broken bones after being hit by a car. He successfully underwent surgery to close his wounds and has made a full recovery. Rye is now thriving in his foster home—running, playing, and having a blast with his canine friends. All that’s left is for his forever family to find him. 💙 Thank you to everyone who supported Rye on his journey. His happy ending is so close! For quite some time, Rye had been a familiar sight in the neighborhood—searching for food, shelter, and a safe place to rest after his owner moved away and left him behind. Life as a stray is never easy, but recently, Rye’s situation turned critical. He was hit by a car, suffering a severe injury to his leg that left muscle, tissue, and bone exposed. Fearing it might be broken, a kind-hearted neighbor took him to the vet. The exam confirmed just how serious his injury is. But with no owner and no one in the neighborhood able to accept financial responsibility, Rye’s future became frighteningly uncertain. The vet clinic reached out to us for help. But here’s the reality—every shelter we partner with is full, and we don’t have an available foster. Even receiving rescues have no space for If we say yes, your donations will cover Rye’s X-rays, pain medication, surgery, basic vetting, and a safe place to heal while we search for somewhere permanent for him. His future depends on our decision, and our decision depends on you. We’ve given this handsome boy a name. Now, will you give him a chance? Be part of the team that turns Rye’s story from uncertainty and pain to healing and hope. 4/10/26 Update After everything he’s been through, Rye’s story is finally turning the corner we’ve all been hoping for. Thankfully, X-rays confirmed that Rye did not suffer any broken bones after being hit by a car. He underwent surgery to close his wounds, healed beautifully, and made a full recovery. What once looked like a devastating injury is now just a memory — and Rye is thriving. Over the past eight months in foster care, Rye has truly blossomed. He’s running, playing, and having a blast with his canine friends. The scared, injured stray who was left behind is now a happy, resilient boy who loves life and is ready for his forever home. And here’s the exciting news… Rye has a meet-and-greet scheduled for April 24! 🎉 After eight long months of waiting, he finally has a potential adopter who wants to meet him. This moment wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support from everyone who donated, shared, and believed in Rye. Because of you, he received the urgent medical care he needed and the time in foster to heal both physically and emotionally. From being abandoned… to surviving a traumatic accident… to healing and now possibly finding his forever family — Rye’s journey is a testament to what compassion can do. Thank you for being part of Rye’s story. His happy ending is so close, and we can’t wait to share the next chapter.

Help Support Poppy's Path to Hope and Healing

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Poppy is just a baby, only a year old, trying to survive on the streets when the unimaginable happened. She was struck by an ambulance on a Saturday, and by the time she arrived at the shelter two days later, it was clear her leg was badly broken. Despite the pain she was in, Poppy’s gentle spirit shone through. She greeted staff with soft eyes, leaning in for comfort from the people she was learning to trust. A full veterinary exam brought even more concerns. In addition to the broken leg that requires orthopedic surgery, Poppy tested positive for both Lyme disease and ehrlichia—two serious tick-borne illnesses that can weaken the immune system, cause joint pain, fever, anemia, and long-term complications if left untreated. While both conditions are manageable with early intervention, she’s facing a long road to recovery, one filled with medication, monitoring, and lots of loving care. Poppy’s still just a puppy, with her whole life ahead of her. She's shown us she's a fighter, but she can't do this alone. We’re committed to giving her every chance to heal fully and live the life she deserves, one filled with safety, love, and play. We’re asking for your support to help cover the cost of Poppy’s surgery and ongoing treatment. Every donation brings us closer to giving her the pain-free, joy-filled life she deserves. She’s already endured so much, and with your help, her future can be full of hope. Update 10/13/25 Poppy’s leg was saved! They were able to get her to an orthopedic specialist who was able to reconstruct her leg internally with hardware. Following the surgery, she had to be on mobility restrictions, but only needed a pressure bandage. Throughout the entire process, she maintained her sweet demeanor. Thank you for helping save her leg!

Sawyers Story: If You See Something, Say Something

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

When a Good Samaritan arrived at a residence to repossess stolen property, they never expected to find a heartbreaking scene that would change a life forever. In the corner of the cluttered space, Sawyer's eyes pleaded for mercy. Her skeleton frame frail and broken. Thankfully, animal control was called and Sawyer was taken into the care of One by One Animal Advocates. She was so emaciated that the vet gave her the lowest possible body score of only 1 out of 9 on the body condition scale—severely emaciated, suffering from extreme muscle wasting, and barely clinging to life. Desperate to survive, she had been eating whatever she could find. Her stomach was filled with plastic, debris, and trash. On top of it all, an old, untreated fracture in her growth plate has left her leg severely damaged, making every movement agonizing. She is unable to bear weight and screams out in pain when she tries. Surgery is required, but the truth is, Sawyer isn’t even strong enough for surgery yet. Her body is too fragile, too malnourished, and even vaccines must wait until she gains weight and stabilizes. Sawyer has suffered alone for too long, but now she has a chance. One By One Animal Advocates is committed to giving her the care she desperately needs, but can’t do it without you. With your support, Sawyer can be provided the nutrition, medical care, and surgery that will give her a real shot at life. She has already shown she is a fighter- now she just needs a little help to keep fighting.

Juliet’s Fight for Her Life—And Her Kittens’

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Juliet was once a stray cat struggling to survive in rural Kentucky. She had no caretaker, no shelter, and no food —just the growing weight of her unborn kittens inside her. She was extremely hungry, her fragile body searching for anything to eat. Desperate and exhausted, Juliet went into labor, doing everything she could to bring her babies into the world. Thankfully, this is when her rescuers stepped in. They rushed her to an emergency vet. By this time, Juliet had given birth to three tiny kittens, but something was wrong. Two more were still inside her, and no matter how hard she tried, they wouldn't come. They were too large. She was too weak. Without an urgent C-section, Juliet and her remaining kittens wouldn’t make it. Thanks to the incredible efforts of her rescuers and the veterinary team, the surgery was a success. Juliet made it through, and so did her kittens. For maybe the first time in her life, Juliet is finally safe and loved. Sadly, one of her babies was born with a severe cleft palate. Despite all efforts to help him thrive, this tiny kitten did not make it. The other four are doing well, constantly being loved on and hugged by mom. Juliet and her babies need continued medical care, nourishment, and a safe place to heal. Will you help Juliet and her kittens get the second chance they deserve? Your donation will ensure that Juliet and her babies never suffer alone again.

Young Mom Cat, Pearl, Needs Surgery For A Rare And Dangerous Condition

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Pearl came to One by One Animal Advocates after she had recently given birth to multiple kittens, but sadly only one named Diamond survived. To make matters worse, she was absolutely consumed by fleas, leaving her skin incessantly itchy, raw, and painful. The rescue noticed that her belly was enlarged and they assumed she was already pregnant again. However, Pearl’s condition rapidly declined. She began panting, became lethargic, and her body was hot to the touch. She was rushed to the emergency room. Her bloodwork revealed troubling abnormalities, but was clear of any signs of pregnancy, pyometra, or FIP. She was placed on IV fluids and antibiotics in hopes to relieve some of her symptoms and help her recover. She showed slight improvement but was not rebounding the way the vet would have liked to see. Finally, after ongoing vet visits, extensive bloodwork, and a variety of medications, her condition was discovered. Pearl has an ectopic spleen, meaning that it has actually displaced itself in her tiny body. This is a rare and dangerous condition that requires surgical removal. Pearl has fought so hard to stay well and take care of her one surviving kitten and One by One is determined to help her heal. Pearl’s surgery and care will be costly, but her life is worth it. Please donate today to help Pearl receive this life-saving surgery. Together, we can make a difference.

Help Priscilla Recover from Life-Saving Surgery After Years of Litters

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Priscilla’s stomach was the first battleground you could see. Scarred, stretched, and sagging, it painted a brutal picture of her past. This gentle girl gave herself over and over, nursing countless litters until there was almost nothing left. By the time she landed at the shelter, she was just skin and bones, her body a roadmap of relentless sacrifice. And yet, those quiet days in that bare kennel might have been the safest she’d ever known. Then came a routine spay surgery that should have opened a door to a better life. But instead of relief, there was a faint line of blood along her incision site—an indication that it was *far* worse than a mere minor complication. Because beneath that thin layer of skin, Priscilla was bleeding internally—her organs just inches from spilling out. If not for one vigilant shelter employee who refused to ignore a small red flag, Priscilla would have lost her life. Thankfully, they contacted rescuers of One by One Animal Advocates, who stepped in and rushed her to the hospital where she underwent life-saving surgery. And against all odds—and despite all the abuse her body had endured—Priscilla pulled through, her spirit refusing to quit. Today, she’s in foster care, still fragile but slowly recovering. Every soft bed, every gentle pat, every kind word is a brand-new experience. Her future is no longer defined by suffering; it’s ripe with the promise of care, safety, and respect. In fact, just a day after surgery Priscilla's appetite started to return—she even tried a cuddly bone in foster care. But this is just the tip of this girl's recovery iceberg: there’s a long road ahead, both physically and emotionally. Priscilla deserves to heal and finally experience the love and safety she’s never known. Please help by donating today to support the costs of Priscilla's life-saving surgery and care. Together, we can give this girl all the love, comfort, and peace she so deserves—and prove that her life can be defined by healing, not hurt.

Tiny Kitten Desperately Needs Help Battling Megaesophagus

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Miss Grey has faced more challenges in her short life than most could imagine. Rescued from a heartbreaking hoarder’s property in West Virginia, she was just one of many cats and kittens struggling to survive in unspeakable conditions. The house was falling apart with missing deck boards and an infestation of giant spiders. There were abandoned cars and trash strewn everywhere. The cats were living off rusty trays filled with stale kibble. One by One Animal Advocates was doing their best to aid the cats on this property. They saw Miss Grey and her three siblings in a box, so young they still needed to be bottle fed. The rescue had absolutely nowhere to take them, but knew they couldn’t leave these incredibly susceptible, vulnerable kittens there as the cat colony was sick and dying. Safe and under their care, Miss Grey was the most enthusiastic eater but was vomiting up food consistently and only half the size of her siblings. They took her to the vet for an evaluation where she was diagnosed with generalized megaesophagus, warranting critical need for specialized care. This condition, likely congenital, causes her esophagus to function improperly, making it difficult for her to eat. She requires meals prepared as slurry and must eat in an upright position to allow gravity to help her digestion. Miss Grey has already undergone vet evaluations and X-rays, and while her condition cannot be cured, it can be managed with ongoing care. Despite her challenges, she is a sweet and resilient soul. She needs high-quality food, a specialized feeding chair, and regular follow-ups to monitor her progress. We cannot do this without your help. Please consider donating to help support Miss Grey’s medical needs, supplies, and care.

Black Buddy is a 2 year old American Shorthair in Huntington, WV, who needs $1,498 for Emergency dental and FIV positive.

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Black Buddy is a community cat who was previously neutered and ear-tipped through TNR. He roamed a neighborhood and one of the caregivers reached out when he showed up with a swollen face, an open mouth that he was unable to close, and drooling excessively. He had lost weight because he could not eat, and his appearance was more ragged than usual because he could not groom himself. Sadly he had been that way for a while, but no one could afford vet care for a cat that “wasn’t theirs” until finally his condition worsened to not being able to eat or close his mouth. At that point, one of the caregivers reached out for help. We got him an emergency appointment at PAC where they determined he had severe stomatitis and severe dental disease. They suspect he is middle-aged, but difficult to tell because his teeth were in such poor condition. He needs blood work and a combo test before dental. Turns out he is FIV+ which will impede his healing. Because of his FIV status he should not live outside unattended around other cats and none of the neighbors were willing to take him in. Black Buddy´s teeth are so bad that he needs emergency surgery as soon as possible. This was unexpected but an emergency! The good news is this street cat will no longer have to fend for himself or find shelter in bad weather.

BRUTALLY SHOT, WOLFIE’S BODY IS RIDDLED WITH BUCKSHOT The Lawrence Shelter reached out to us asking for assistance with Wolfie, thought to be the victim of a vicious coyote attack. He had multiple wounds, bleeding, swollen, and unable to bear weight on his back leg. We rushed him to Proctorville Animal Clinic where we learned the cause was more violent than we could have imagined; XRY’s revealed his entire back flank, leg, scrotum, and tail are filled with buckshot. Wolfie was the victim of an intentional act of violence meant to inflict immense pain. As shelter workers, vet staff, and rescuers, we too often see signs of neglect or cruelty. We are conditioned to put that aside focusing on medical care and a brighter future, but seeing Wolfie in this state reduced us all to tears. We cannot fathom in any part of of our hearts or souls how someone could be this sinister and cruel. Despite his tremendous pain, Wolfie has only offered a tail wag. Wolfie is Erlicchea, Lyme, and anasplasmosis positive and has multiple entry wounds. His biggest risk is infection and the biggest obstacle is pain control. Athena

Athena is a three-month-old Labrador mix in Huntington, WV, who needs $2,000 for urgent surgery.

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Athena, a sweet and innocent dog, was surrendered to a shelter in rural KY along with her siblings. She quickly took a turn for the worse and started having trouble breathing, leaving everyone at the shelter worried and helpless. Realizing the urgency of the situation, the shelter reached out for help. Unfortunately, they didn't have enough funds to provide Athena with the medical attention she desperately needed. It was clear that something serious was going on inside her tiny body. One By One Animal Advocates couldn't bear to see Athena suffer and stepped in to get her emergency veterinary care. After an XRY examination, the heartbreaking truth - severe trauma had destroyed her diaphragm. The broken and dislocated ribs makes the surgery tricky as they will continue to move even after repair. There is nothing that can be done for her ribs. It will be a long and questionable recovery, but the vets believe they can repair it. There will be a lot of pain associated with the unstable ribs, but she will get pain medicine for a long time to provide comfort. Imagine not being able to catch your breath because there is no room for your lungs to expand. This is exactly what Athena is going through right now. With every labored breath she takes, she tries to compensate by using her abdomen. It's a desperate struggle just to get some air. By supporting our campaign, you can play a vital role in saving Athena's life. Your generous contributions will go directly towards covering the costs of her much-needed surgery!

We cannot imagine how a person can look at a living soul and pull the trigger and cause damage and pain." Seeing animals injured and wounded is tough, but knowing the pain was intentionally caused is very difficult to deal with. The shelter named him Noah, and the animal hospital called him Rudolph for his red nose, just in time for the holidays. Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Please help Cheyenne! Cheyenne is a 6.5 year old Chihuahua with bilateral luxating patellas. Every step she takes is painful, because her knees are out of place. Cheyenne was rescued in July. Cheyenne came from a hoarding situation which is bad enough, but it gets worse. The rescue found out about the dogs because someone was trying to help her owner, who had health issues. The lady could hardly move around, sat mostly in the floor. As a result, the dogs never went outside. All the dogs from hoarding situation used the bathroom on the trailer floor. It was heat of summer, and no AC. Cheyenne was part of an accidental litter. Because she was not “full-blooded”, her owner did not like her, resulting in very little human interaction. Her mom and her both had flaky skin, overgrown nails, and flea infested. They were terrified and growled because they had never been around other humans. Cheyenne is now with One by One Animal Advocates receiving love and care. If enough funds are raised, she will be able to undergo surgery to fix her knees. She will receive this procedure at Proctorville Veterinary Clinic in Ohio. Please consider donating to help Cheyenne so she can get the help she needs. Thank you for your support!

When animal control arrived, the owner said Wilbur had gotten into some kind of chemical three weeks ago. He said “he meant to take him to be euthanized” but never gave a clear reason why he didn’t. Sadly, lack of medical care is not a punishable offense. For three weeks, this poor dog has suffered in agony, in silence, all by himself. The skin has been burnt off his face, affecting his nose and lips, oozing clear fluid that caused the straw he was lying in to stick to his wounded face. The shelter is full and does not have the funds to provide care for this grievous injury. That is when we stepped in to take him into our care at One By One Animal Advocates. Wilbur was sedated so he his wounds could be cleaned, debrided, and treated. In addition to his obvious wounds he has muscle wasting most evident at his head and along his spine; so much so that the vet did not feel comfortable neutering him in his current condition. We found out he is Lyme and Erlicchea positive, not a huge surprise since he’s been living outside, and possibly heartworm positive - it has been sent to an outside lab for confirmation. We were a bit worried because they wanted to do an XRY because his heart sounded suspicious, but turns out it was ok and he had “old man lungs”. We are feeling overwhelmed in medical cases, but we cannot say no to this innocent dog who has fought to survive. Can you join our team in support of Wilbur, and help us get him started on the road to recovery?

Everyone who has met this sweet girl is determined to do everything they can to help Matty make a full recovery, but her medical expenses are piling up. Matty deserves a chance, but the rescue can't afford it alone. Let's come together to help this precious pup heal and live a happy life again. Thank you for your support!

Lina is a 10-month-old Calico Cat in Huntington, WV, who needs $1,000 for Prolapsed Reproductive Tract.

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Lina's barely a year old but has already been through more pain and suffering than most of us could handle. She was brought into our care at One by One in terrible condition with a prolapsed reproductive tract that had been left untreated for days. The tissue was discolored and drying out. Lina needs our help urgently. She requires emergency surgery to prevent the tissue from becoming necrotic or developing sepsis, which could result in death. The procedure will be difficult but necessary - she will need very strong antibiotics and pain medication during her recovery. Lina is still such a loving and affectionate cat. She purrs at even the slightest bit of attention and loves to be petted and cuddled. We can't bear to see her in this kind of pain and discomfort any longer, which is why we need your help. This little girl deserves to live a happy and healthy life. Thank you for your kindness and generosity!

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Meet Allie, a sweet beagle mix who desperately needs your help. She was found in a rural shelter with blood in her urine and a worrying mass on her chest. Unfortunately, the shelter doesn't have any funds for her care. If nobody steps up to help her, poor Allie will either suffer and get worse or be euthanized. That's when One by One Animal Advocates Rescue stepped up to take on her case and saved Allie from this dire situation. They couldn't let this happen to such an innocent and deserving dog like Allie. But they need your support to provide her with the necessary medical attention she needs. "When we picked her up, she was covered in urine and blood and had an overwhelming flea infestation," Heather explains. Allie had a fine needle aspiration of the mass on her chest, pre-op blood work, and X-rays at the veterinarian's office, where they found a HUGE bladder stone causing all the bleeding. Every day must have been excruciatingly painful for her. To make matters worse, Allie also requires dental treatment, but it had to wait until after her bladder surgery. Please consider helping Allie today by donating whatever amount you can and sharing Allie's story with others!

Innocent Dog Suffers For Far Too Long In Isolation And Misery. Imagine being tethered to a post by a heavy logging chain with no food or water in sight. Your bones are prominent, your stomach shrunk, and wounds dig deep into your neck from the same chains that keep you trapped. This was the heartbreaking reality for Dale, who was recently uncovered by a deputy investigating animal neglect. He had been tethered to a post and had no access to food or water, even though the weather was scorching hot. The damage to his body did not occur overnight; Dale has suffered for far too long in isolation and misery. He was seized from this deplorable, neglectful situation, and the owner has been cited with animal cruelty and neglect. Thankfully, One by One Animal Advocates is stepping up to provide Dale with the medical care he needs. He will require blood work to check if his organs have suffered damage due to malnourishment, diagnostic tests to look for heartworms or tick-borne diseases, sedation to examine and treat his severe neck wounds, and antibiotics and pain medication. Any amount you can donate will provide him with the necessary treatment, nutrition, and love he deserves. Together, we can give him a second chance at a life filled with happiness and health!

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

My name is Daphne, and I'm a sweet old girl found lying on the side of a road in the middle of nowhere. My vision and hearing aren't what they used to be. I was scared, alone, and wondering if anyone would come to save me. After what felt like an eternity, something wonderful happened - someone rescued me and took me home! She listed me on a yard sale site as free, but still, no one claimed me as their own. That's when One by One Animal Advocates stepped in to help and took me to the vet. My eyes were goopy and I couldn't see properly. The vet confirmed that it was entropion - something causing me a lot of discomfort. I also had a painful limp in my front left leg, which made them think I might have been hit by a car. To top it off, my skin was so itchy it felt like fire ants were crawling all over me. My teeth hurt too, which made eating difficult. Thanks to some amazing humans, I now feel so much better! They gave me medicine, bathed and wrapped me in cozy blankets. It's incredible how much of a difference they've made in my life. I can't believe that there are people out there who care about dogs like me. Despite being older, they saw my worth and gave me a second chance in my golden years. But, as with all of us older folks, medical bills can pile up quickly. Would you be willing to help support me in this next chapter of my life? Your kindness means everything!

Pushpop

Pushpop is a 8-year-old DSH Cat in Huntington, WV, who needs $820 for Pillow Foot, A Mass On One Paw, and Ulcers In Mouth.

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

It was a heartbreaking sight when this sweet, orange cat was limping towards the doorstep of a house. His poor paws were in terrible, raw and painful condition. Knowing that he needed immediate help, the rescuer quickly sent out an urgent message to us at One by One Animal Advocates seeking help.. When we took him to the vet, they found that he had been severely anemic. They were initially stumped; A chemical burn seemed likely at first since all four paws were affected as well as his abdomen and tail. Pushpop was too anemic and far too fragile for sedation. But it became clear that hospitalization on fluids was necessary to inspect his condition properly. Bloodwork was needed daily to monitor his condition and progress. The vet team diagnosed him with severe Pillow Foot, a mass on one paw, and ulcers in his mouth. This is also known as Feline plasma cell pododermatitis. It is a condition in which severe inflammation develops on the foot pads. Pododermatitis occurs when the immune system is mistakenly triggered and it overproduces lymphocytes With medication for Pillow foot, he has now become more stable. He will soon be ready for the next steps towards recovery: an operation to remove the mass on one paw, as well as histopathology to exam the mass tissues under a microscope. But that wasn't all - it seemed Pushpop also required every single one of his teeth pulled out in order to treat stomatitis, causing ulcers in his mouth. Despite his obvious pain, he’s an absolute trooper and very loving. With just a bit of help towards Pushpop's medical care, we can make sure that we never have to say no to an animal in need! Can you help us get this sweet, senior the care he deserves?

Tilt's life changed when some animal lovers spotted him at a local mall dragging his leg. The cat appeared to be in excruciating pain as he struggled to walk. They caught Tilt and rushed him to an emergency animal hospital. The staff discovered he had a dislocated pelvis. He was hit with such force that broken bone fragments scattered throughout his leg. When One by One Animal Advocates heard about Tilt, they immediately offered to help with his medical bills and surgery. "Tilt the cat has been through a lot, but thankfully the kind girl who trapped and rescued him discovered that he's very friendly and just needed a little love," Heather A. with One by One tells Waggle. "She is committed to giving him all the care and support he needs to gain confidence and thrive as an indoor pet. He will undergo leg amputation surgery and spend time resting in a crate due to the fractured pelvis." Now the nonprofit group is racing to help raise money for Tilt's care. Will you give so he can have a second chance? "Thanks to the kindness of strangers, this sweet little cat might still be wandering alone on the streets," Heather says. Let's rally together to help Whisper, a disabled Gulf War veteran's dog who urgently needs emergency surgery that her owner cannot afford. One by One Animal Advocates will help relieve the financial burden by covering the total cost of Whisper's medical bill and returning her healthy and happy to her loving owner. "He has selflessly served our nation, and it is an honor and a privilege to be able to give back to him," Heather from One by One tells Waggle. Whisper can no longer urinate and is suffering from a severe vaginal prolapse. The condition is more common in young females of large and brachycephalic breeds. Her vagina has become displaced and requires urgent surgical attention to relieve her discomfort and ensure she stays healthy - as it can worsen if untreated over time. Whisper is a faithful companion to her adoring owner. But now, she is in pain, and it breaks her owner's heart to see her suffer as he searches for a way to ease her discomfort. Let's come together to help those who have served our country, both the dogs in need and their devoted owners. Every donation, however small, can give this special pup a chance at life again - by helping fund the surgery she needs to get back on her paws and quickly home to her human dad. Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Heavily Pregnant With Parvo-virus In A Rural Kentucky Shelter One By One Animal Advocates sprang into action when they heard about a heavily pregnant dog at a rural Kentucky shelter. Without hesitation, they rushed to her aid and took her in, providing her with the loving foster home she desperately needed. Tessa finally felt safe, secure and cared for the very next day - she delivered. Sadly it was stillborn and to save her remaining three pups, an emergency c-section was quickly performed at the animal hospital. Miraculously, these tiny puppies emerged unscathed, with full coats of fur and healthy suckling abilities thanks to their mother's milk supply. Tessa and her new family of three were healthy and happy - until the biggest puppy unexpectedly declined and passed away. Her situation became an emergency again, and Tessa was rushed to the animal hospital. Shortly after, she was diagnosed with an awful virus, Parvo-virus. "We can't imagine delivering a stillborn puppy, undergoing a c-section, losing more of her babies AND being diagnosed with a deadly virus." says Heather. Every minute mattered. Tessa had one puppy left and was fighting for her life. She is compromised already: unknown history, shelter life, mated with a bigger dog (which is why she needed a C-section). She is depressed and exhausted. With your assistance, rescue groups can ensure that abandoned dogs like Tessa find safety, comfort and ultimately, their forever homes. No amount is too small! Your generosity will mean the world to Tessa and many others.

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Robin was likely someone's beloved companion when he showed up at someone's house, seemingly in good condition but limping. Treating Robin's injury would have been a financial impossibility for his rescuer, yet they could not turn away from this limping feline friend. With their limited resources already stretched thin, the kind-hearted person had no choice but to bring him to the shelter for help. Unfortunately, he could not bear any weight on his leg and required medical evaluation - an expense the shelter couldn't afford. We were then asked to help Robin financially with his emergency care. We couldn't say no and watch this sweet little kitty suffer. Sending Robin for an X-Ray was heartbreaking - discovering that a bullet had pulverized his leg and scattered fragments of bone all over the place. We knew immediately that amputation was the only viable option, as even if it were possible to fix his leg, there was no guarantee he'd ever walk correctly again. We need your help to save this sweet cat's life and ensure they live their best nine lives! Please donate today to ensure we can get our furry friends the care they deserve! Your generous contribution will enable us to make a real difference in Robin's life and ensure he lives his best nine lives. Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

In overcrowded and underfunded shelters, innocent lives can be put on the euthanasia list simply due to a lack of resources - like this one-year-old, energetic and friendly boy, Duke. Duke was abandoned at a rural shelter. The staff pooled their money together to take him to a vet where he was diagnosed with heart failure based on his clinical presentation. They paid for a month of medication, but were still faced with the pressure to euthanize for space. Everyone had fallen in love with Duke and did not want him to die. All of us at One by One Animal Advocates could feel the desperation when they asked us to take him as a hospice foster. One glance at his adorable face, and it was clear that there was no way we could turn him away! Our hearts won't accept a hospice-only future for this young pup. We refuse to simply settle with what's wrong and will do whatever it takes to make sure he gets the treatment needed to live life as any happy, playful dog his age should. Fluid (more than 15 extra pounds) has accumulated in Duke's abdomen, signaling underlying inflammation, infection, heart condition, cancer or more. Further diagnostics will be performed, starting with draining some fluid and sending it off to the lab for analysis. Can the Waggle community help us figure out Duke’s medical issues and give him the life he was meant to have, and not the one he currently has? A donation would be an immense relief for her getting Duke on his road to recovery!

Even experienced animal rescuers who have seen it all still get sickened and shocked by gruesome, gut-wrenching cases. That's what happened when the crew at One By One Animal Advocates saw Boomer -- one of the worst cases of neglect they've ever seen. "The two-year-old pup was blind, confined to a cage, covered in fleas, and unable to eat for days. The nonprofit group needs your help raising money for Boomer's life-saving care. He is hospitalized in critical condition and needs medications, bloodwork, IV fluids, and small specialized meals throughout the day. The traps are cruel, inhumane, and illegal in some states. Miles is the perfect example of why. This poor, sweet cat was spotted liming in pain with a large, rusted leg hold trap clamped around his front leg. He was scared; it was difficult for him to move, so he hid under a house. A rescuer trying to help Miles set a trap, placed it under the house, finally caught the cat, and contacted One by One Animal Advocates asking for help.
