Please help Dottie recover from emergency surgery.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

When Dottie's owner wanted to euthanize her after declining treatment, A Pathway to Hope chose to help. A compassionate veterinary team contacted them about this 3-month-old kitten because they just could not euthanize her without first trying to save her. Dottie had a dangerous intestinal obstruction that required immediate surgery. Dottie had stopped eating and drinking and was suffering from vomiting and diarrhea. She was transferred to a specialty hospital, where an ultrasound confirmed a linear intestinal obstruction requiring emergency surgery. A Pathway to Hope is already overwhelmed by so many critical medical cases, but they could not let this tiny kitten die without a chance. If you can please donate, even a small amount, it will make a huge difference to this rescue and Dottie's medical care. Thank you!

Oreo, Nutterbutter, & Nabisco

Oreo, Nutterbutter, & Nabisco need your help.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

A Pathway to Hope received another emergency call for a cat family during one of their events. This is what rescue looks like. It’s not planned or convenient. It’s saying yes on one of the busiest days of the year, knowing that if you say no, they have no other chance… and having faith in YOU — our incredible rescue community. Only about a week old, Oreo’s eyes were barely open, and she already had to fight to survive. Beside her was her orange brother, Nabisco, and their mama. As a newborn kitten, Oreo had a devastating umbilical cord injury. They learned the next day that the owner wanted to surrender the mom and the remaining kitten. Tragically, two kittens had already passed away. And then things got worse. Oreo’s tiny foot detached due to the severity of the injury. She is now on antibiotics and under medical care. She will need a full leg amputation once she is older and strong enough for surgery. At the same time, we are caring for dozens of new cats and kittens, beyond capacity. But emergencies can’t wait. So we said yes. Thankfully, Oreo, Nabisco, and their mama are now safe in the hands of an incredible foster who stepped up immediately to help this fragile little family. Right now, they need your help—every donation you make today will help cover the skyrocketing medical bills for this family and so many others already depending on this rescue team. If you’ve ever thought about helping, this is one of those moments where it truly matters. Thank you for your support!

Tortellini

Tortellini's bones were so underdeveloped they became brittle and broke from malnutrition.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

This tiny kitten, now named Tortellini, was found dragging herself through the streets. At just 2.5 pounds at 4 months old, Tortellini should be playing as every kitten deserves. Instead, she had to fight pain just to move. Yet, she still tried to drag herself to safety, never losing her will to live. Tortellini was brought to Bond Vet in a box. At first, it was feared she had been hit by a car. But after examining her, the devoted veterinary team discovered something even more shocking. Tortellini is severely malnourished, with multiple old fractures and broken bones throughout her tiny body. Her legs are bowed, having never developed properly, likely due to profound nutritional deficiencies during the most critical stages of her growth. Her medical team immediately fell in love with this sweet soul, determined to give her the best chance to live, and reached out to A Pathway to Hope for help. They are urgently arranging advanced testing through Michigan State University and an appointment with an internal medicine specialist to determine what can be done to give this precious girl the chance at the life she's never had. Please help us give Tortellini the advanced medical care she so desperately needs. Every donation brings her one step closer to healing and one step further from a life of pain and suffering. Thank you for believing that Tortellini deserves a chance at growing into a healthy, happy adult cat.

Senior Companions Cleo and Tivali Need Our Help

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

When Cleo and Tivali were first found, we were told they were friendly four-month-old kittens. One, a tiny gray kitten with a cloudy eye and injuries to her face, urgently needed medical care, so A Patheay to Hope stepped in. We agreed to help, but when Cleo was trapped, we discovered she wasn't a kitten at all. Cleo is a tiny senior little lady, who has likely been struggling to survive on the streets for years. Cleo had suffered severe facial trauma, leaving her with almost no teeth, a swollen face, a permanently damaged eye that may still require removal, and multiple medical conditions requiring ongoing treatment and follow-up care. She is sweet and docile despite her pain. Meanwhile, Cleo’s companion, Tivali, proved much harder to rescue. We refused to give up, and he is finally safe as well, but in need of significant medical care before we can even consider adoption. What we expected to be a straightforward kitten rescue quickly became far more complicated (and far more expensive) than anyone imagined. But this is the reality of rescue. Animals don't always arrive as expected. They don't fit neatly into budgets or plans. They simply need help and we are here to step in. If you're able, please consider making a donation today to help cover Cleo's ongoing medical treatment and Tivali's veterinary care. Every gift helps us give animals like Cleo and Tivali the second chance they deserve. Thank you for helping us give Cleo and Tivali HOPE for better days ahead.

Shammi and Her Kittens

Shammi and her kittens need your help in a heartbreaking fight for survival.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

What should have been a joyful story of a mother cat raising her babies has turned into a heartbreaking fight for survival. Shammi and her five kittens came into the rescue already struggling. The tiny family has been battling severe gastrointestinal illness, parasites, dehydration, and ongoing medical concerns. Despite multiple veterinary visits, diagnostic testing, medications, supportive care, and around-the-clock monitoring, the kittens remained dangerously small for their age. One of Shammi's precious kittens, Tinos, suddenly declined and was rushed to the emergency hospital. Despite every effort to save him, Tinos passed away wrapped in the warmth and love of his devoted mother. Our team was devastated, but we immediately made the difficult decision to authorize a necropsy in hopes of determining what caused Tinos' death and whether there is anything more we can do to protect his siblings. Just hours later, another kitten, Rhea, developed labored breathing and coughing and was rushed back to the emergency hospital. Doctors diagnosed pneumonia, and Rhea remains hospitalized while receiving intensive medical care. Today, Shammi's remaining kittens—Rhea, Cora, Eros, and Nikos—are still fighting. They are receiving medications, fluids, supportive care, and close monitoring as we work tirelessly to keep them alive and uncover the cause of their illnesses. In less than 24 hours, medical expenses for this tiny family have exceeded $7,000 and continue to climb. Emergency hospitalization, diagnostic testing, medications, imaging, treatment, follow-up care, and Tinos' necropsy have created an overwhelming financial burden, but we refuse to give up on these babies. Every donation will go directly toward: Emergency hospitalization and treatment for Rhea Ongoing medical care for Shammi and the remaining kittens Diagnostic testing and laboratory work Medications, fluids, and supportive care Tinos' necropsy to help provide answers and protect his siblings Rescue can be heartbreaking. We cannot save every animal, but we owe them every chance. Please help us give Shammi and her remaining kittens the care they desperately need. Your support could make the difference between life and death for this fragile family. Thank you for standing with them during one of the most difficult rescue cases we have faced.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

Kitten Season is in Full Swing! Help us Act Fast

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

Every spring, as flowers bloom and the weather warms up, animal rescues are met with an overwhelming amount of new cat and kitten friends. This year is no exception and it’s already off to a fast start. In just the past week, A Pathway to Hope’s dedicated volunteer community has trapped, rescued, and scheduled spay/neuter surgeries for 30+ cats. They’ve already saved at least five litters alongside their devoted mama cats—and kitten season is only just beginning. Right now, the top priority is placing nursing kittens into loving foster homes and ensuring every mama is spayed to prevent future litters. Even acting this fast, one of the rescued cats is already pregnant. This work is vital for both the cat and animal rescue communities, but it comes at a cost. With surgeries, care for pregnant moms, and future medical needs for kittens, expenses are already nearing $9,000 and that’s assuming no complications (which is always wishful thinking). Fostering saves lives. Adopting creates space. Donations—whether monetary or from a wishlist—make this work possible. Together, we can make this kitten season a little less overwhelming for those who need us most.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

Sabril is an adorable pit bull–husky puppy bursting with energy and joy. Her foster family and everyone at A Pathway to Hope absolutely adore her. After cutting her foot on ice, Sabril needed sutures to close a painful wound. Unfortunately, because of where the injury is located, and her love of zoomies and playtime, healing has not been easy. She has already undergone two procedures on her paw, weeks of care, and has incurred thousands of dollars in medical expenses. Since her accident, sweet Sabril has been limited to leash walks and wearing a cone. Her energy is bottled up, and all she wants is to run, play, and simply be a carefree puppy again. Her foster family is working tirelessly to comfort her and support her recovery every step of the way. They are fully committed to getting Sabril the care she needs so she can heal and find her forever home. This is what makes A Pathway to Hope so special…our fosters don’t just open their homes, they open their hearts in the biggest, most selfless ways. Right now, we are facing several urgent medical cases and need your help. Every donation will make a meaningful difference in Sabril’s journey to recovery. Bingo’s World Looks A Little Different

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

A Pathway to Hope recently took in this determined boy Bingo. Can you help us protect Bingo’s beautiful heart as he prepares for heartworm treatment and an eye specialist consultation? Every morning, Bingo wakes up with his tail wagging, excited for the day ahead. He has no idea he lives his life a little different than most pups. Bingo may be deaf and visually impaired, but you would never know it from the way he greets each new day. After just one week in his foster home, he had already figured out the layout of the house and confidently made himself part of the pack. With the help of his foster mom and his canine siblings, this incredibly smart boy has learned how to navigate his world with confidence. He’s proving to the world that minimal use of his eyes and ears is no big deal. He is crate trained, potty trained, and absolutely loves other dogs. Bingo enjoys walks with his foster sister, playful wrestling with his foster siblings, and most of all snuggling close to his people. Touch is Bingo’s love language, and he always wants to know his humans are nearby so personal space is non existent with him! While Bingo is thriving in foster care, he does have some medical challenges ahead. Bingo tested positive for heartworm, which means he will begin the long process of treatment. He is also scheduled to see an eye specialist to better understand his visual impairment. What we know now is that his eyes appear to not be fully developed. Despite these challenges, Bingo is full of joy and love. He plays and explores with everyone around him just like any other dog. Heartworm treatment, specialist visits, and medical care can be expensive, which is why your help is imperative. Bingo may need a little extra guidance navigating the world, but his heart is full of love, and he’s ready to concur the journey ahead.

Sweet senior boy Wuffie is finally settling into his foster home, but he’s facing a tough hurdle. He has been struggling with a major chronic UTI that’s causing frequent accidents. This poor old man has been through so much, and right now he needs a little extra help (and a lot of love) to get comfortable and start healing. His amazing fosters are doing everything they can, but they urgently need supplies like to help with cleanup and keep Wuffie’s space safe and comfortable. Wuffie also needs nutritious food to help rebuild his strength and support his recovery. Every donation truly makes a difference for him. His foster’s priority right now is getting Wuffie healthy enough to get surgery for his enlarged prostate. We are hoping a simple neuter surgery will resolve most of his current problems. Please take a moment to check out Wuffie’s wishlist and consider sending something his way. Even the smallest gesture brings comfort to this sweet boy during a really hard time. Lily Was Brought In to Be Euthanized; We’re Giving Her a Chance

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

Lily wobbles when she walks. Born with cerebellar hypoplasia, a neurological condition that makes her unsteady, she lived a happy, loved life until her owner was placed into assisted living. Overnight, Lily lost her person, her home, and the only safety she had ever known. She was grieving and scared, and even began peeing outside the litter box — a common stress response in cats. She was brought to a vet to be euthanized, but thankfully the clinic refused. Instead, Lily spent her days crated while the office searched for help. When one of our volunteers walked in and saw Lily, she knew we at A Pathway to Hope needed to help. Once in foster, the full picture became clear. Lily arrived matted, with diarrhea, vomiting, and incontinence worse than described. She was taken to our vet, and we are now addressing her urinary inflammation, digestive issues, and other medical concerns so she can finally get the relief she deserves. Through it all, Lily remains gentle and incredibly loving. She purrs the moment someone enters the room. She adores warmth, seeks out people and her heating pad, and simply wants to feel safe again. And we intend on helping her do just that. Lily was nearly lost because she needed help, not because she was beyond saving. She’s a reminder of how quickly vulnerable animals can fall through the cracks, and how urgently our Medical Fund is needed to catch them. Lily fought to stay alive. Now she needs us to fight for her. A Pathway to Hope takes in several urgent cases every month and we can’t continue to do so, without generous donations. 3/18/26 Update Despite her challenges, Lily greets each day with the sweetest spirit. This tiny girl may be a little wobbly and have some challenges with potty habits, but her gentle personality and loving spirit make everyone who meets her fall in love. Lily is happiest when she’s close to her people, soaking up attention and affection. While she is safe and loved in foster care, Lily does have some medical needs that we are continuing to manage. Our veterinary team has discovered that she is dealing with significant dental disease, which is unfortunately very common in cats and can be quite uncomfortable. We are planning a dental procedure for Lily in the coming weeks to help relieve that pain and improve her overall comfort. For now, she is being monitored closely and enjoying the love and patience of her foster family. 5/18/26 Update Thank you to everyone who supported sweet Lily on her healing journey. We are so grateful for your love and care as Lily's journey is not quite over. She still needs to have a dental procedure, but we are hopeful all will go well and will be able to find her forever home soon. She desereves it.

An Unexpected Cancer Diagnosis Changed Everything for Merlot

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

When she was first found outside, Merlot was believed to be a kitten struggling to survive. She was small, underweight, and waiting desperately on a doorstep for help, as if saying, “Please… I’ve been waiting for someone to notice me.” But once Merlot arrived at the vet, the truth came crashing in. During what should have been a routine spay, the medical team found fluid and a mass near her mammary glands. Further testing revealed that Merlot is not a kitten at all but actually an adult cat who had been quietly suffering for too long, abandoned outside with no one to help her. The biopsy brought devastating news: Merlot has Grade 2 mammary cancer. She is also battling kidney disease and a painful urinary tract infection. Despite everything, Merlot’s rescuers refused to give up on her. Her future is uncertain, but her will to live is a powerful thing! This friendly, gentle girl was left behind when she needed care the most, and now she needs additional surgery, bloodwork, and ongoing medical support to give her the life she always deserved. Because cases like Merlot don’t come with warning. Because abandoned animals with serious illness don’t get second chances unless someone steps in. Because we never want to look at an animal like Merlot and say, “We can’t afford to continue her care.” That is why your donations matter. Merlot didn’t deserve to be abandoned to suffer alone. But she deserves every chance we can give her now. 8/11/26 Update Merlot’s mammary mass was successfully removed, but the biopsy brought difficult news: it was Grade 2 mammary carcinoma, an aggressive cancer that may return or spread. Thankfully, chest X-rays showed no evidence that the cancer had already spread. After carefully considering the options, we have decided not to put Merlot through a radical mastectomy or chemotherapy. Instead, we are focusing on keeping her comfortable, happy and surrounded by love for however much time she has. Her testing also revealed early kidney disease, and she was recently treated for a urinary tract infection that may have affected her kidneys. Merlot is now eating a prescription kidney diet and will continue to receive the monitoring and supportive care she needs. For Merlot, care now means good food, peaceful days, regular veterinary follow-up and the chance to simply enjoy being safe and loved. We couldn't have done this without you.

Found Alone on Christmas—Desperately Needing a Holiday Miracle

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

While others celebrated the holidays, Noelle was discarded when she needed love the most. Noelle is an 11-year-old senior girl who was found wandering locally as a stray on Christmas Day, her body quietly telling the story of years of neglect. At just 35 pounds, this adorable husky / corgi mix is suffering from advanced mammary cancer. And sadly, these tumors that have been growing for a very long time—all due to a very avoidable reason: she was never spayed. Sadly, the damage is done. Noelle's prognosis is terminal. But "terminal" doesn't mean "unloveable." And it certainly doesn't mean she shouldn't be given the chance to experience love; to experience a home; to experience a family. Noelle is pure sweetness. She is gentle. Calm. Loving. She has met other dogs and cats and done beautifully. She leans into everyone she meets—she's just needs a little help, and a little comfort. Now, in the new year, we are fighting to get Noelle the chance she deserves. She's receiving steady treatment and pain management, and her vets will let us know when it's "time." But for now, the mission is clear: give Noelle what she's never had before. A chance. So, while we're currently screening for hospice applications so she has a soft place to stay as she receives treatment, we need your help. The cost of Noelle's exams and continued treatment and pain management is steadily climbing. Every donation will make all the difference for this sweet girl who was abandoned. Every dollar goes toward keeping her comfortable, pain-free, and surrounded by warmth for whatever time she has left. 💛 Please, help this special girl live out the rest of her life in peace and comfort. Because Noelle deserves to know she matters today and every day after. 2/5/26 Update Noelle is at the emergency hospital tonight after a sudden and heartbreaking decline. She’s developed subcutaneous emphysema — a painful complication where air becomes trapped under the skin after major surgery or infection. Her foster mom became worried when Noelle wouldn’t eat and couldn’t get up on her own. This is the same girl who usually squeaks her lamb chop nonstop and never leaves her mom’s side.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

Sweet, chubby Gary was living his happy, normal life until one night everything changed. He suddenly stopped eating and drinking and could no longer make it to the litter box to urinate. Panicked, his family rushed him to the vet only to hear the scary news: Gary had diabetes. But when faced with the reality of a nearly $5000 medical bill, Gary’s family decided they could no longer care for him. For 18 long years, Champ knew only one family. He grew up beside them, never expecting that one day he’d be left behind. But recently, Champ was dropped off at a shelter with no idea of what is to come or what he did wrong. No pet should ever have to face that kind of loss. After nearly two decades of devotion, Champ was surrendered simply because he was “too old.” When he arrived, he smelled of urine, his legs were weak, and his teeth were in painful condition, all clear signs that he hadn’t received the care he deserved. Yet despite all that, Champ still wags his tail at the sound of a kind voice. He still believes that love is possible. Champ needs urgent medical care, including treatment for his legs, dental work to ease his pain, and the gentle attention of people who see his worth. Moose, who suffers from spina bifida, has broken his leg—and he needs us now more than ever. 💔

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

A Pathway to Hope is caring for a sweet boy named Moose, who suffers from spina bifida and now has a broken leg. He needs us now more than ever. 💔Moose struggles to walk and needs his bladder expressed a few times a day. His devoted foster family found him collapsed on the floor in excruciating pain, his leg shattered and dangling. Moose has always thought he was an acrobat—and even in the safety of his specialized cat room, his playful spirit led to this devastating injury. Now, Moose urgently needs specialized surgery and care costing $9,000 to repair his leg and give him the chance to keep living the happy, love-filled life he so deserves. We can’t let a fixable injury take away everything this brave boy has fought for. This rescue found him as a tiny kitten after his mom was suspected to have been hit by a car. He was smaller and weaker than his siblings. He wobbled when he walked, struggled with incontinence, and vets discovered nerve damage that would likely be lifelong. Most would have given up on him. But not this rescue—and not his incredible foster family, who have lovingly cared for him every single day for over a year. Moose is happy, playful, and is a joy to have around. Every single donation makes a difference for Moose. Your support will allow him to get the emergency surgery and hospitalization he urgently needs so he can heal and keep living the joyful life he was meant for. Thank you for standing by Moose. Update 9/23/25 Our little warrior Moose is proving once again just how resilient he is. 💜 Despite his spina bifida, broken leg and recovery, he hasn’t let anything stop him. He recently got his staples out (yay!), though he’s still rocking his cone a bit longer since the skin on his feet is delicate. He’s definitely still a little uncomfortable, but thanks to your support, lots of love, and plenty of Churu treats 🐱 he’s pushing through. His loving fosters even got him a flat scratching post to make things easier, and he absolutely loves it! Moose also made a new friend, Koyari–a tripod kitty from Aruba, who truly understands his struggles, and the two are already bonding. Thank you for sending Moose love and kindness—it’s what has carried him this far. 💕 Update 10/21/2025 Moose is wearing the cone for a bit longer, but he's still on the road to recovery and doing great in his foster home! With your help, he continues to heal and remind us that hope is always stronger than hardship. He will hopefully be up for adoption soon!

Help Winston Overcome His Life-Threatening Condition

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

At just 10 months old, Winston came to A Pathway to Hope on the brink of euthanasia after being diagnosed with a life-threatening urinary blockage. His owner, unable to manage his care and unknowingly contributing to his condition through improper nutrition, had run out of options. With no other rescue able to take on the financial burden, and despite already facing over $30,000 in recent emergency medical costs, they couldn't say no to sweet Winston. They were his only hope. As a result of never receiving proper cat food or vital nutrients, Winston developed a severe Vitamin C deficiency that led to skeletal damage. His bones were brittle and underdeveloped, and advanced imaging revealed multiple fractures: old breaks in his pelvis and at least one new spinal fracture. These injuries left him unable to posture to urinate, resulting in repeated and untreated urinary tract infections that ultimately caused multiple blockages. It took four hospitals and numerous diagnostics to uncover the full picture. He was transferred to 24-hour hospitalization for a urinary blockage (underlying cause not yet known). After being discharged, his condition rapidly declined, prompting a second emergency visit to the vet. But due to suspected neurological concerns, he was transferred to a specialist; however, he showed no signs of neurological abnormalities. The critical care team performed an ultrasound, revealing cystitis and bladder wall thickening, along with advanced X-rays and additional diagnostics. It was through these images and the expertise of the medical team that the true cause of Winston’s condition was finally uncovered: severe nutritional deficiency and resulting orthopedic trauma. Throughout this ordeal, Winston has been in excruciating pain from his fractured spinal cord and healing pelvis, only to be managed right now with IV pain medication. His initial hospitalization alone carried a cost of over $2,000. The ongoing estimate for Eclipse Specialty Hospital now totals $9,718 before a generous 20% discount. Even as medical costs climbed, they continued advocating for Winston. Their team tracked down his former owner and asked detailed questions that proved crucial in understanding the root of his condition. Today, Winston remains hospitalized on IV pain management and a carefully monitored treatment plan. He is expected to remain in the hospital for at least 48 more hours while his urinary catheter is in place, his pain is stabilized, and he begins eating independently. He’s slowly accepting spoon feeding and Churu treats—small steps on a long road. Despite everything, Winston’s prognosis is hopeful. With proper supplements, balanced nutrition, and 4–6 weeks of crate rest, his fractures are expected to heal and his bones to strengthen. Thanks to a collaborative, multi-hospital effort, the dedication of exceptional medical professionals, and the unwavering commitment of volunteers who refused to give up—along with your support—Winston now has a real chance at life. Winston’s life would have ended not from a lack of medical solutions, but from a lack of resources. Because this amazing rescue said yes—and because of compassionate supporters like you— Winston is still here, fighting for the future he deserves. Will you continue to support him? Update 8/20/25 Winston had his recheck last week, and we have wonderful news! 💙 This brave little survivor is doing SO well. His bloodwork was improved, and his medical team is thrilled with his progress. As he heals, Winston is starting to move more – and his sassy, quirky personality is shining through! He remains on strict crate rest to allow his pelvic and spinal fractures to mend and is receiving supplements to support his recovery. After surviving on nothing but chicken, he’s still picky, but we’re celebrating the small victories! Winston is finally eating cat food, including dry food and being spoon-fed Churu treats like the king he is. 👑

Kaya & Puppie

Kaya & Puppie is a 1 year old Mix-Breed in Hawthorne, NJ, who needs $2,000 for surgery.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

A beautiful mother husky was picked up as a stray and was curled tightly on a cold cement floor—giving birth in the middle of an overcrowded, inner-city shelter. With no comfort, no safety, and no quiet, she instinctively tucked her newborns beneath her body. She refused the blanket she was offered and instead used her raised bed as a shield, which was the only protection she had to offer her babies. When RBARI came to her rescue, she showed teeth when they approached her, but not aggression, more like desperation. And yet, the moment a kind hand reached out to leash her and gently move her babies to a blanket, she softened. She knew they were there to help. Still, they had to leave them behind and quickly mobilize her to find a foster placement. As one overwhelmed rescue after another had to decline, RBARI and A Pathway to Hope joined forces to give this mama and her seven newborns a chance. They couldn't say no. Kaya is now with a foster family, but recently, they found her hiding under a table, panting, weak, and in critical condition. She was rushed to the hospital, where staff had to immediately triage and carry her to the back for emergency care. One of her mammary glands had developed an aggressive abscess. Despite intensive care and hospitalization for 5 days, her tissue is now severely damaged, purple, and oozing, and the pain has spread to her back leg, affecting her ability to walk. 💛 Kaya needs emergency surgery to debride the dead tissue and insert a drain. Her surgical team is hoping to avoid a full mastectomy, but won’t know the extent of the damage until they begin. She remains on IV fluids, strong antibiotics, and round-the-clock pain medication. Her body is exhausted, but Kaya is still fighting. Her pups are safe and loved in foster care—but they miss their mama. Please make a gift to help cover Kaya's emergency surgery and care and the daily needs of her sweet pups. Your donation means warmth, safety, and a fighting chance for this brave mama and her newborns. Together, we can make sure this family’s life is filled with love and not fear. Thank you! Update 10/12/25 Kaya's surgery went extremely well, and she is making fantastic progress. So much so that she is now available for adoption! 3/21/26 Update Thank you to everyone who supported Kaya and her puppies on their healing journey! Kaya is now doing well and, she was adopted by her foster family. She had a rough time at first as she developed an infection when she was spayed, but she is all healed and enjoying her foster siblings. we are also happy to share that all of her puppies have been adopted and are thriving.

Pearl

Pearl is a 1 year old Mix-Breed in Hawthorne, NJ, who needs $2,000 for surgery.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

Meet Pearl, the cutest 6-month-old Pomsky puppy, only weighing 7 pounds. On May 16, Pearl’s owner reported she had fallen and brought her to the vet in distress. X-rays confirmed a serious humerus fracture—her right leg was broken at an angle that would not heal without surgery. She was sent home in a temporary splint, with a plan to see a surgeon within 24 hours. But that visit never happened. When Pearl returned to the ER about a week later—her splint had fallen off, and the truth emerged: her injury had been left untreated. The family made the unthinkable decision not to proceed with surgery. Instead, they chose euthanasia. A compassionate doctor stepped in and convinced them to surrender her to rescue. That same day, A Pathway to Hope and RBARI joined forces to save Pearl. A volunteer transported her immediately to a specialty hospital, where she was started on IV pain management. Pearl had been silently suffering for nearly two weeks and was unable to move her leg. The break is high up on her leg, making this an especially complex and delicate procedure, particularly given her tiny size. Her surgeon believes she can recover with orthopedic surgery and a plate, but because she is in so much pain, they cannot yet rule out nerve damage. Still, we have hope. And Pearl has a fighting spirit that has captured the hearts of her medical team. 💔 Please, donate now to help fund Pearl’s urgent surgery and hospitalization. Her surgery will cost over $10,000. Pearl’s surgery is urgent, and her road to healing will be long. But with you by our sides, this rescue can commit to giving her the chance she was denied—a life without pain, and a future full of love.

Beloved Community Cat Found Torn-Up & Hurting

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

A Pathway to Hope is graciously caring for a kitty in the community named Skitty. A family has been feeding and caring for him for about 7 years, but he's mainly an outdoor cat. They have become quite attached to each other over the years. Recently, Skitty got into a fight defending himself from another stray that started coming around the yard. While Skitty was successful on fending off the other cat off, he got some bad scratches on his nose. He seemed to be recovering just fine at first but then he began to become sluggish, and his eyes and nose started oozing thick brown liquid. He stopped eating as much since his nose was clogged and he was becoming much thinner. Not knowing what to do, the family contacted A Pathway to Hope. Luckily, they were able to get him to a vet quickly so Skitty could acquire medicine for his infection, other treatments he needed to help with state he was in, and bloodwork. The vet also found a small lump on his neck, which they tested. He is now recovering with the right antibiotics, but they are keeping an eye on the bump. Please consider helping A Pathway to Hope care for Skitty and cover his medical bills so he can get back to doing what he does best, exploring the outdoors. Any amount is appreciated, and as always, thank you for your continued generosity. Update 7/17/25 Skitty is slowly but surely making his way to recovery, and a BIG part of that is due to his Army (YOU!). The support and love for this boy are so incredibly appreciated as he gets back on his feet—or paws, we should say. Each new day is a little better, physically and emotionally; he’s steadily gaining weight back, the infection is clearing, and his appetite seems to be returning. Thank you for your continued support as this boy continues his healing journey. Every donation and share means the world, to us and to Skitty!

House Fire Survivor Found After 2 Months—This Miracle Kitty Needs Your Help

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

After a devastating house fire broke out almost two months ago, this sweet 7-year-old cat named Ivory was presumed dead. She was finally found living alone in the ruins of her former home, severely emaciated, weighing only 5.9 pounds, weak, missing her tail, and fighting on her last leg to stay alive. Her elderly owner hasn’t been seen since, and the apartment was condemned. But miraculously… Ivory survived. She was at a high risk of euthanasia due to her declining health until A Pathway to Hope stepped in. They immediately rushed her to the vet and are getting her the urgent medical care she needs. She’s currently being syringe-fed baby food and churros, and comes to the kennel door seeking attention, head-bunting and purring. She’s too frightened to eat on her own unless someone is with her, offering love, safety, and encouragement. But once she feels comforted, she eats with a strong appetite. She just needs someone to be there to care. A Pathway to Hope and generous donors like you are her only hope. With your support, we can give Ivory the second chance she so deeply deserves. Every donation makes a difference and helps her heal and grow stronger each day. Thank you! 4/30/25 Update: Ivory hasn't been eating well since her rescue, and A Pathway's vet referred her to a specialist. An ultrasound revealed thickening of her GI tract and an enlarged liver and spleen, raising concern for lymphoma. But this is not a death sentence. With your help, we can give Ivory the chance she’s fought so hard to earn. 5/9/25 Update: Following her visit to a specialist, Ivory began treatment for suspected IBD or lymphoma. With your help, she’s responding well to steroids and B12. Her appetite has improved, her strength is returning, and she’s even made a best friend—her special needs foster buddy, Moose. Thank you for giving her the second chance she so deeply deserved.

Coco Needs Your Help

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

Coco, an older cat with a "grumpy" face, was abandoned by her previous owner and was left in pain with untreated medical issues. She had untreated dental issues, infections, and was on antibiotics but it was never refilled. After A Pathway to Hope rescue took her to urgent care, where she got X-rays, bloodwork, and a dental procedure, Coco is now recovering. She’s eating and purring and doesn't seem to be in pain. Her biopsy results are still pending, but she’s in a safe, loving home where she can heal and regain her strength. Coco is special because of her combined sweet yet grumpy nature. On one hand, she’s affectionate and loves attention from family members, but she always wears her grumpy attitude. She’s playful at times, and purring is a sign of her trust and comfort. Coco enjoys sitting nearby, observing, and occasionally seeking affection. A Pathway to Hope rescue is stretched thin financially, with over $1,500 spent on Coco’s care alone. Your support will help them continue Coco's treatment and give her the chance to heal, while also providing proper care to all the other animals in their shelter as well. Thank you! Update 6/12/15 Coco is doing great in her foster home! She’s very easy going, calm, and friendly. She likes relaxing and eating. Those are her two favorite things to do. She eats soft food only due to her previous health issues with her mouth. Just to play it safe. She is not messy with her litter box. She is definitely messy with eating. She spills soft food on the floor all the time, even though they have tried all different types of bowls. She is getting along a little bit better with their dogs and cats, but she’d still prefer to be an only fur baby. She is definitely an awesome cat!! 4/21/26 Update Thank you to everyone who supported Coco on her healing journey. This pretty kitty has fully healed and has officially been adopted into her forever home where she is receiving all the love and care in the world. Thank you!

Tucker Needs You: Please Donate to Save This Gentle Giant

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

Tucker, A Pathway to Hope’s 105-pound gentle giant, was recently rushed to the hospital at serious risk of bloat, a life-threatening condition. His stomach is distended with fluid, and he has been vomiting non-stop. Due to his size and deep chest, his stomach is at high risk of twisting, which could be fatal without emergency surgery. Right now, the best place for Tucker to be is at the hospital, where he is being constantly observed and will undergo a procedure to place an NG tube to drain some of the fluid in his stomach. A Pathway to Hope urgently needs your help to cover his medical costs. The procedure, x-rays, ultrasound, bloodwork, and hospitalization are estimated to cost between $4,000 and $5,000. Thankfully, a compassionate neighbor reached out to our rescue, and a wonderful foster stepped in to give him a safe and loving home. Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

URGENT! Discarded outside, covered in maggots, senior husky needs his second “Chance!” Starving, covered in maggots and too weak to stand, Chance was abandoned in an inner city neighborhood. He is a gentle senior husky who has been through so much mistreatment in his life, but his spirit remains unbroken. Even at his worst, lifeless and lethargic, Chance wagged his tail when he saw another dog, crying out for companionship. Chance’s suspected “owners” claimed to have found him, as he slowly starved in the yard. When rushed to the hospital, he wasn’t expected to survive, but this resilient boy fought back. His kind friends at the shelter were determined to give him his second chance at his best life. The message came in this weekend, “I don’t mean to do this to you…” but Chance needed to find rescue by the day’s end. One of our incredible husky families who has helped to rehabilitate Burton, Ford and Kenai, stepped forward to help Chance. We need your support to provide Chance with the medical care he so desperately has been lacking. He is battling severe anemia, malnutrition, lethargy and painful maggot-infested wounds. He visited the vet again today and was shaved down to clean his wounds and is now on antibiotics. Please hold Chance in your hearts, as he is really struggling today. We are hopeful that tomorrow is a better day for Chance, and with your support, we can do everything in our power to give him the devoted care he needs. *Update 1/27: In Loving Memory of Chance Chance’s final months were truly the best of his life, filled with love and care from his devoted family. Despite his difficult past, his spirit remained strong. He healed and thrived under the tender care of his human family and his pack—especially his loyal best friend and protector, Burton. 🐾 Thanks to his family's unwavering commitment, Chance's last days were surrounded with love. They lovingly shared, “Our boy Chance crossed the rainbow bridge today to begin his next adventure. He gave us 4 amazing months and made such an impact on us. He taught us so many lessons, and though he overcame so many odds, he was old and tired, and we promised we wouldn’t let him suffer. We are so honored to have been his family during this time and hope he knew nothing but love. It took a village to save him, and we’re forever grateful to A Pathway to Hope for trusting us, Plains Animal Hospital for their care, and everyone who cheered him on and supported his journey. Please don’t overlook the old, sick, or handicapped animals—they have so much love to give. Our time with Chance was short but amazing. Run free, buddy. Say hi to Buddy and Lucky for us. We love you so much.” 💕 Thanks to Rob, Joanna, and their wonderful family Chance had everything he needed in this life to move on with love and peace in his heart. And thank you to our Pathway family for supporting Chance’s care, ensuring his final months were filled with comfort. Run free, beautiful boy! You will forever be in our hearts. ❤️

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

A Pathway to Hope Hope’s Home is a rescue and rehabilitation home in Barnegat, NJ, purchased by A Pathway to Hope in 2021, directly utilizing the services of a live-in dog behavior trainer. The rescued dogs and cats are welcomed into Hope’s Home under the care of our dog behavior trainer to enjoy daily life, never knowing they are homeless and seeking a family of their own. They receive daily, intensive training to prepare them for home life, as they learn what it is like to be a beloved member of a pack and a home. However, Hope's Home doesn't only focus on helping secure homes for the homeless dogs we work to save.– It also supports pet-retention and adoption support to fosters, volunteers, adopters, and the community. Because, at its very core, Hope’s Home is a sanctuary for animals in need AND a resource for our community. The community we serve is an important part of our behavior trainer’s role with Hope’s Home, ensuring that we are supporting the behavioral needs of dogs rescued, rehabilitated, and adopted out by Pathway, as well as dogs in need within our community. Pack walks, foster training, training classes (both remote and in-person), individual training sessions, and training support calls are an intrinsic part of Hope’s Home and the responsibility of our behavior trainer. Our goals in working directly with a behavioral trainer to provide support to Pathway dogs and the community are as follows: 1. Offer training sessions to adopters, fosters, and community members in need of dog training support for pet retention and adoption. 2. Reduce the number of returns and improve pet retention. 3. Provide consistent training support to homeless dogs in efforts to find them forever homes. 4. Provide volunteer and foster training opportunities to ensure that all volunteers and fosters are providing consistent training support to the animals they are caring for. 5. Provide training support through training classes, individual training sessions, and consultation calls to community members and adopters to ensure pet retention. 6. Provide post-adoption support, including training classes, individual training sessions as needed, training consult calls and pack walk opportunities, to all Pathway adopters to safeguard adoption success. Bridget Gallagher, Dog Behavior Trainer, is a trainer, volunteer, foster and adopter who has dedicated her life to dog behavior training and rescue. Rocky is a 11 month old Siberian Husky in Hawthorne, NJ, who needs $2,000 for Orthopedic Consult and Eye Consult, Urinary Issues.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

* A Pathway to Hope * Rocky spent his whole life crouched in a small crate – 24/7. He came into rescue matted and soaked in his own urine and feces. All his joints are soft and lax, and he walks on part of his legs due to a hyperextension. His legs are bowed, and one foot appears larger. His eyes are different sizes, droopy and almost hidden – likely not fully developed. His vision is questionable. We don’t know if Rocky’s special needs have anything to do with his horrible start to life, but we do know that his neglect has only exacerbated his condition. Rocky will be visiting an eye specialist, as well as an orthopedist. Rocky is approximately 40 pounds, and looks like a miniature cross between a husky, malamute, and muppet. Rocky is an amazing soul. Despite the extreme neglect Rocky faced, he is playful, loving and desperately wants to make friends. He doesn’t quite know how to play yet, but he is trying to learn (awkwardly) and is so excited when other dogs will play with him as he clumsily wrestles with his best husky voice. Our sweet, special needs boy came to Pathway on Sunday, and we need your help to provide him with the advanced medical care he so deserves. Rocky is ridiculously adorable and so deserves this second chance. Thank you for your hope!

Moose is a 4 month old Mix-Breed in Hawthorne, NJ, who needs $1,300 for Nerve Damage.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

* A Pathway to Hope * Despite nerve damage, we have hope baby Moose has a long life ahead! But…we need your help! Please help us to get Moose the specialized care and diagnostics needed to survive and thrive. Little Moose was discovered with his siblings after his mom was suspected to have been hit by a car. A wonderful couple trapped the kittens, knowing they were not safe, and reached out to area rescues, with no reply. Realizing that one of the kittens was unwell and much smaller than the others, with what they believed to be “swimmers syndrome” (an unsteady gait), as well as incontinence, they took him to the veterinarian. It was initially thought that Moose had a deformity not allowing him to empty his bladder, and a specialty hospital was recommended. The hope was surgical correction. The couple continued to reach out unsuccessfully to rescues for help. Moose’s rescuer and foster mom shared, “Please get back to me… I really need help with him.” As soon as we saw little Moose, and the devotion that this family had to finding him help, we knew we had to do everything we could for this little fighter. We teamed up with our best partners at RBARI to give baby Moose every chance at life. Sadly, however, following a consultation with a surgeon at a specialty hospital, it was found that Moose has nerve damage, and this could be a lifelong condition. The next step is a consultation with a neurologist to determine Moose’s long term prognosis. We have gotten this far in helping Moose, and his devoted foster family – but we need your help! Please consider a donation towards Moose’s upcoming consultation and continued care, as we do everything we can to give this baby the life he deserves. To find out more about adoption, please visit apathwaytohope.org. Update 2/22: Moose is thriving and not letting anything slow him down! Moose has adjusted wonderfully to his new life with his incredibly devoted foster family, and he's become the social butterfly of the household! He’s the first to greet any new foster cat, playing all day with his foster brother. Despite his mobility challenges, he doesn’t let anything slow him down—he easily keeps up with the other cats and even enjoys baths now! Moose's favorite thing? Churros! He has to be the first to get one, or he'll try to steal it from his foster friends. His foster mom says, "We love him very much and are so glad he found us!" A Pathway to Hope couldn’t agree more—he truly has found his forever place in their hearts.

Mia is a 21-month-old Siberian Husky in Hawthorne, NJ, who needs $2,000 for Mastitis, Mammary Gland Rupture, Motility.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

Mia was living outside in South Carolina, destined to give birth to yet another litter of puppies outdoors We secured foster and two of our volunteers mobilized to drive the 11 hours to pick Mia up. Sadly, Mia gave birth on a cold, rainy day before we reached her. Amazingly, all six puppies survived and came the long journey to NJ into the arms of a loving foster family and devoted volunteers. Mia is the sweetest dog. She is loving with all people, gentle, so caring with her babies, but at the same time a puppy herself, enjoying toys, playing, and long walks. She is devoted to caring for her babies and loves spending time lying at her foster mom's feet while she works when the babies are sleeping. Despite all that she has been through, Mia remains loving and trusting of people. Not many dogs could go through giving birth outside (twice), raising 2 litters of puppies (first was before we knew of her), getting mastitis, a ruptured mammary gland, horrible GI issues and caring for her babies - while still remaining such a wonderful, happy and playful pup herself! Mia was hospitalized with a high fever and mastitis. We believe the bacterial infection stemmed from giving birth outside in the rain and dirt. She also developed necrotic tissue, an abscess and a mammary gland rupture causing an open wound, as well as constant vomiting from motility and GI issues. Mia was hospitalized for 3 nights total, missing her babies the entire time! We are tired, and we are overwhelmed, but we have not given up hope. We are buried in hospital bills – but never willing to give up on these animals that desperately need us. We need you now, more than ever. Thank you for being a treasured part of our Pathway family.

Nova is a 3-month-old Mix in Hawthorne, NJ, who needs $2,000 for Testing, Insulin, and Diabetes Treatment.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

Nova came into rescue in critical condition after almost being put into diabetic ketoacidosis when she was self-diagnosed with diabetes and “treated” with glucose, honey, steak and table food. She is currently hospitalized and her diabetes is being stabilized. She will be fostered by a vet tech at the hospital. The suffering Nova underwent in order to get the help she needed is heartbreaking. She was placed by another organization, then returned a month later emaciated with a dangerously high blood glucose. She was then brought to an emergency hospital, but taken home against medical advice due to financial constraints, only to end up in another vet hospital the next day, then surrendered to us. It is almost unheard of for a 13-week old puppy to have juvenile diabetes, but that is what is suspected for poor Nova. She is tiny and sweet, never having had a chance to be a healthy puppy with her medical condition managed before. We joke that she is a miniature dog / cat / bat mix - SO adorable at just 6.5 lbs. Nova is finally getting the care she so desperately needed, and deserves. She was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes (very rare), and more testing will be done in coming weeks to determine her treatment, full diagnosis and prognosis. Nova has a long road ahead, but she now has HOPE on her side! Join with us as you give this hope to Nova. Her journey may appear daunting, but she has the best team working together – including YOU – and this makes all the difference in providing Nova with a bright future!

Buddy

Buddy is a 12-year-old Yellow Labrador in Hawthorne, NJ, who needs $2,000 for urgent care.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

Buddy is a 12-year-old senior dog, rescued as part of a cruelty case. Buddy was dropped at animal control by a man who claimed to have found him, but was actually his owner, later charged with neglect. Buddy is currently in a foster home and finally getting the care he so deserves. Despite the pain he has endured, Buddy remains sweet and loving – docile with people, dogs and cats – just looking for a place to feel safe. Buddy should be living his senior years spoiled and surrounded with love, not neglected and in pain. Buddy is the sweetest boy who just wants a safe place and love. He lived so long in pain and through neglect that he is just happy to now be comfortable and loved. Buddy presented with skin lesions, ear infections, grossly overgrown nails, Lymes disease, anal gland infection and a swollen back left foot. His injured rear paw was horribly painful, requiring, as his bone was sticking out. Two lumps were found on Buddy and biopsied. He has mast cell cancer, so the tumors will be removed this week, and surgery should be curative for our sweet boy! Following a lifetime of neglect, Buddy finally has a second chance at his best life. Despite the pain he has endured, Buddy remains docile and loving – just looking for a place to feel safe, someone to care for him. Please help us change Buddy's world!

Charlie Brown

Charlie Brown is a 3-year-old Mix in Hawthorne, NJ, who needs $2,000 for Hit by a Car and Abandoned with a Pelvis Fracture and Wounds.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

His name was “Dog” – hit by a car and abandoned at the vet’s office, he needed a guardian angel. Never having a name, never having a home, and never having visited a vet, “Dog” spent his life as an outdoor dog. As was inevitable, given his neglect over the 1.5 years of his life, he was hit by a car. His pelvis was fractured, involving the hip, he had a gaping, bleeding wound and neurological damage is suspected. He was finally given the dignity of medical care when his “owner” took him to a hospital, his leg wrapped up in a makeshift cast to cover the huge gash from impact. They opted for euthanasia. Luckily, his guardian angel, Ben, intervened. The kind staff at the hospital saw how incredibly sweet this boy was and sought out rescue. They knew he deserved better. A rescuer had seen Ben’s story and the wonderful care he got, despite all odds stacked against him, and she reached out for help. “Dog” quickly became Charlie Brown, and we promised him a chance at life, in honor of Ben. Charlie Brown rapidly declined while kenneled and waiting for rescue – his mobility decreased, pain increased, and he is showing signs of neurological damage in his back end. As soon as we heard his story, we knew we needed to act. He is being driven from VA to NJ, where A Pathway to Hope has joined with the Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge, to provide Charlie Brown with emergency medical care. Charlie Brown will immediately be admitted to the hospital. He has a long journey to recovery. From a life of loneliness outdoors, to being welcomed into a family of rescuers, volunteers, supporters, and love, Charlie Brown new life starts today – with you by his side!

Molly

Molly is a 1-year-old Siberian Husky in Hawthorne, NJ, who needs $2,000 for FHO Surgery and Hospitalization.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

Molly went missing from her home, where the family was breeding huskies. She was seen along the highway, but she wasn't found until a week later. It was determined she had been struck by a car and had been waiting for someone to find her for a week. She was admitted to the hospital for emergency treatment and surgery and has been released into foster to recover. It will take time for Molly to heal both physically and emotionally. The trauma she endured is unimaginable, and Molly is gentle, but withdrawn. She perks up around dogs and children and is very gentle and sweet, despite her discomfort. Molly’s personality is slowly emerging. She loves children and belly rubs, enjoys a soft bed, likes being outside and has a typical picky husky appetite! Molly is an extremely small adult husky (just 30 pounds). She is very quiet and docile, like a tiny husky lap dog. She has endured SO much in the last week, yet she remains so gentle. It was adorable to see her finally open up around another husky - and a small child! Molly also was bred and had puppies 4 month ago:-( which the owner wont currently give up, but we will try to spay / neuter. Molly was hit by a car. She was not found for a week, we suspect because she could not walk and get help, and she was in a wooded area and resembles a coyote. Her pelvis was broken in 3 spots, and she was extremely dehydrated and starving. Her pelvis had begun to heal, so it could not be moved much, but she required FHO surgery on her hip. She was hospitalized for 3 days and is now recovering Rescue - the owner was breeding their dogs and had never taken them to the vet. Animal control contacted us about Molly, and the owners surrendered her to rescue. We are also spaying and neutering their other huskies. They have 3 other adults and 2 puppies(Molly's puppies)

The pair ended up in a shelter. The other dog was rescued, but with his unsightly tumor, no one adopted Ben. That's when A Pathway to Hope saved him. "Ben was sorely neglected, then dumped when he needed help the most," Amy H. with the nonprofit group tells Waggle. Now, the rescue needs your help to get Ben the medical attention he never received. He needs the tumor biopsied, bloodwork, and X-rays. This will help determine the medical plan for this sweet boy. "Ben is the sweetest senior boy, who is happy, eating, and playful despite the horrific growth on his face," Amy says. "He is good with everyone. Dogs, cats, and kids. "We saw past his physical challenges and recognized his incredible spirit," Amy H., with the rescue, tells Waggle. When the growth fell off, it left him without a significant part of his face! Despite this setback, Burton remained determined to live life to the fullest. Now Burton needs a CT scan and the remaining part of the growth on his nose removed and sent to pathology. Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

At just 5 months old, Braxton was found emaciated and limping, suffering from starvation and an old broken leg. He was taken into a MS shelter, which is overflowing with homeless animals. If that wasn’t enough, Braxton has since fallen ill with parvo. He was hospitalized, treated and is now recovering from parvo, and now will be facing orthopedic surgery to repair his leg. Despite all he has been through, Braxton is super sweet. We are calling him a husky mix, though breed is unknown. He will likely be a big boy! He is still seeking a forever home. This adorable puppy has faced overwhelming trauma in his short life, yet he remains hopeful. Braxton deserves so much better – and we can give it to him, with you by our sides. Braxton was found as a stray with a broken leg. The leg has been allowed to heal improperly in the shelter. He was coming to rescue when he fell ill with parvo. He has been treated and recovered, but now he will need orthopedic surgery for his leg. Blue Pearl Paramus - needs ortho consult first, then likely same day surgery Braxton will not get the orthopedic surgery he needs in the care of the shelter. HE is coming to A Pathway to Hope to see a specialist and have surgery so that he can find a forever home. He is just a baby and deserves to be able to walk, run and play!

Teddy is a 6-year-old Pomeranian/Poodle mix in Hawthorne, NJ, who needs $2,000 for emergency surgery.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

Please help! Teddy needs exploratory surgery – and we have no idea what will be found. Teddy went into distress yesterday, and we immediately acted to support him and his mom, Margie. Teddy is a 6-year-old Pomeranian / poodle mix, who was rescued from Egypt by Pathway in 2018, noted to have been neutered by the sending rescue. Teddy was not eating, nauseas and lethargic for 2 days when we hospitalized him with the amazing medical team at Eclipse. Bloodwork, xrays and ultrasound all point to the same thing – Teddy has an abdominal mass that is believed to be either his testicle(s) or leftover tissue / sponge from his neuter. A tumor has been detected on the tissue believed to be his testes that will be biopsied. He was in critical shape, having been sent home from another hospital the day previous due to his mom’s lack of funds. It was our commitment to Margie and Teddy to always be there for them – and we need your help! Because of Teddy’s condition, and the nature of this exploratory surgery, the safest thing is to keep him on supportive care stabilized in hospital and send him right into surgery. Please help us to be there for Teddy, and Margie, with your donation today. Our funds have been badly depleted due to recent emergencies, surgeries and hospitalizations, and we can not continue our critically needed work without your support, and your HOPE.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

URGENT! We have a foster. We had a transport for Lemon. We have a surgeon ready to operate next week. BUT, we can’t rescue Lemon without your help. At just 10 weeks old, Lemon was abandoned, struck by a car, then left to die with her back leg completely shattered. Thankfully, some kind soul found her injured body and brought her to a busy shelter. When we heard Lemon’s story, we reached out to our Pathway To Hope community. Quickly, we had a foster, we had an orthopedist, we had transport…we just didn’t have the funds. We cannot commit to rescuing Lemon without the funds to provide her with the surgery she so desperately needs – a specialized orthopedic surgery costing thousands of dollars. Right now, her broken leg is healing incorrectly. Lemon struggles to walk but is happy and tries SO hard to be the puppy she is inside. She deserves to live the rest of her life running, jumping and playing like any puppy should. Please consider a donation today to help us save Lemon the right way – with a home, family, and the specialized surgery she so deserves!

Urgent! Baylie is awaiting surgery! Please donate to save Baylie’s mobility. We have to move fast to save Baylie’s mobility. Baylie is just 12 weeks old and survived a hit-and-run in New Orleans, leaving her with severe injuries that require urgent surgery. Just days ago, Baylie was flown to us at A Pathway to Hope courtesy of Good Flights and arrived at her loving foster home with her tail wagging. Xray's confirmed what was suspected, that Baylie needs immediate FHO (femoral head ostectomy) surgery to save her mobility. Her hip is fully displaced, out of the socket. Baylie’s wonderful disposition hides her pain, but she cannot live this way permanently. She is at the vet hospital, awaiting this complicated surgery. Although it will be a slow and uncomfortable recovery, with your help, we can make sure that Baylie receives the care she needs to get better! We need your support to make that possible. Despite her discomfort, this spunky and playful pup is determined to recover and start her life fully. All sweet Baylie wants to do is play…Please consider a donation towards her towards her medical costs. Tonka

Tonka is a 10-year-old Husky in Hawthorne, NJ, who needs $2,000 for Severely Emaciated, Heartworm Positive, Advanced Dental Disease, and Matted Fur.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

Tonka has lived a lifetime of neglect before finding himself an ailing stray dog in a crowded shelter. That's when Pathway and Piney Mountain Foster Care stepped in. This gorgeous senior husky should have been spoiled in his golden years, but instead, he is emaciated at just 40 pounds under his filthy fur. We fought to get Tonka to NJ to get him the extensive diagnostics he desperately needed! Tonka’s schedule was lined up with medical consults at three separate hospital – that included an echocardiogram, cardiologist consult, abdominal ultrasound, dental exam and extensive diagnostic testing. We knew Tonka was in rough shape, but seeing him shaved down and hearing his full medical results was shocking. He is severely emaciated with a body score of 2 out of 9. Tonka is heartworm positive and has horrible dental disease. Both are severe and advanced. He is also suffering from painful ear infections and arthritis. Tonka’s fur was so horrible that he had to be fully shaven – it was thin, matted and soaked in urine and feces. Tonka has burns on his stomach from prolonged urine contact and the matts on his hind legs prevented him from walking normally. Tonka only knows how to LOVE. He passed a temperament test with flying colors, rolling over for belly rubs during the most uncomfortable part of testing for most dogs! The long-term neglect Tonka has endured has broken his body, but not his spirit, as he greets you with joy and excitement. While it is hard for us to see, he truly feels like a new man today and has hope for the future. We SO appreciate your support in helping with Tonka’s initial medical care. Tonka’s upcoming medical care has quickly exceeded funds raised, and we need your help. Please consider donating to help us provide our beautiful boy Tonka with the diagnostics and treatment!

Zoey

Zoey is a 13-year-old Domestic Shorthair in Hawthorne, NJ, who needs $2,000 for Intensive Care and Hospitalization.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

Zoey was our first mama cat rescued in 2010 with her 2 kittens just as Pathway was established. We were committed to her then, and we are committed now. She was abandoned outside a pet store on a busy road. She lived with her “kittens” Abby and Elmo their whole lives, but sadly, this past year was their last together, as Zoey needed more intensive care and was surrendered back to us. Zoey has been facing too much in recent months. After being diagnosed with diabetes and a long struggle to balance her treatment, Zoey lost her home of 11 years. She has developed two abscesses hidden under her skin and fur, both of which exploded with wounds, necessitating immediate medical care and hospitalization. Zoey was hospitalized for over a week initially and has regularly visited the hospital since then over the last 6 months, now going approximately every 2 weeks to stay for the day for a recheck. She has undergone extensive diagnostics – and her list of ailments is overwhelming. But, no one told Zoey she is supposed to be doing anything besides living – and so that’s what Zoey does, with spunk. Doctors have diagnosed her with pancreatitis, abscessed wounds (they believe she may have underlying cancer that hasn’t surfaced yet), uncontrolled diabetes, and some neurological concerns. When Zoey first came home from the hospital, she was unable to walk unassisted. She was so weak that we wondered if we had made the right decision moving forward…so, we left it up to Zoey. Despite all of her ailments, Zoey has been an incredible fighter, showing an intense will to live. Zoey’s hospital bills have been around $15,000 over the last 6 months, but she keeps fighting to live, and so we, A Pathway to Hope, feel moved to fight alongside her.

Rosie

Rosie is a 10-year-old Labrador Retriever in Hawthorne, NJ, who needs $2,000 for urgent care.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

Rosie's story is going to break your heart. It's unthinkable how people could have treated this beautiful senior yellow Labrador with such cruelty! Rosie didn't have a home and wandered the streets. She was starving and scavenging anything she could find to eat. Sadly she ate rocks to fill her belly. Then people shot at her with a BB gun, and the pellets lodged under her skin. Someone finally called animal control on Rosie, and she ended up in a shelter. She had Lyme disease, a skin infection, spots on her lungs, and laryngeal paralysis, which made it difficult for Rosie to breathe. Heartbroken over Rosie, the shelter contacted A Pathway To Hope rescue. They swooped in, brought Rosie to a foster home, and got her immediate medical attention at Eclipse Specialty Emergency Pet Care. The nonprofit rescue is racing to raise money for Rosie's medical tests and treatment, including extensive bloodwork and diagnostics, an ultrasound, an echocardiogram, and a bronchoscopy. Amy H. from the rescue says she knows Rosie wants to tell everyone, "I am old, and my body aches, but life these days is so wonderful, thanks to my foster family and rescuers, who saw my old, worn face and just fell in love." Please give so Rosie can have a second chance!

Reese is a 2-month-old Domestic Shorthair in Hawthorne, NJ, who needs $2,000 for Emergency Hospitalization.

Hawthorne, NJ • A Pathway to Hope

Kittens are so incredibly fragile, and without the help of A Pathway to Hope, a kitten named Reese would have perished. Reese was found laying in the heat in a flowerpot (as seen in her main photo) for hours, eyes sealed shut, lethargic and fading away – until their team quickly mobilized and rushed her to the hospital. Reese was covered in fleas, suffering from an upper respiratory infection and so anemic that she required an emergency blood transfusion – and she seemed to bounce back and was released from the hospital. Sadly, Reese quickly deteriorated overnight in foster. She was quickly rushed back to the hospital with lethargy, lack of appetite, and labored breathing concerns. She was not eating, was put on oxygen, ran a fever, and awaited chest x-rays. Reese also had to repeat bloodwork to determine if she had any red blood cells left to fight off the infection that was overtaking her tiny body. Vets believe Reese’s upper respiratory infection worsened in her lungs, possibly into pneumonia. This gorgeous, frightened girl is learning to trust and truly has found her second chance at life. A Pathway to Hope could use your support in helping fund her medical care so they can continue their mission of life-saving work.
