Sable Has Never Known Love. We Can Change That.

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

When we first read Sable's story, we couldn’t turn away. Someone had found this beautiful Siamese mix dragging herself across the ground, unable to use her back legs. She wasn’t crying. She wasn’t giving up. She was simply pulling herself forward with her front legs, hoping someone would notice. Then we stepped in. One By One Animal Advocates cannot turn these cases down. We rushed her to the emergency room, fearing the worst. As we waited for the first x-rays, we braced for a shattered spine and an impossible decision. Instead, the x-rays told a different story. Thankfully, her spine wasn't broken, instead the x-ray revealed old bullet fragments. The fragments were old, but a testament to the life Sable has endured. She's been through unspeakable, intentional cruelty and still approaches her people with trust. At the ER, Sable could not stand on her own. She still had feeling in her back legs and normal anal tone, and she would “rabbit kick” to reposition herself, all small signs of hope. But she was unable to urinate on her own and required manual bladder expression. After being transferred to Ashland Animal Clinic, there has still been no improvement. She is still unable to stand, and her bladder continues to require manual expression. Without a clear structural cause, we are holding onto hope that inflammation is affecting her mobility. Steroid treatment may help, but right now, we are waiting and hoping to see how much function she can regain. Cases like this are never easy. We are constantly balancing what medicine can do with the quality of life every animal deserves. Sable deserves every possible chance to recover, and right now that means around the clock care. Her emergency visit, x-rays, medications, hospitalization, and ongoing treatment have already resulted in significant medical expenses, and her care is far from over. If you can help give Sable that chance, please consider donating. Every contribution goes directly toward her care and gives her more time, more support, and more hope.

Help Rosetta Trade Shelter Life for a Second Chance

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Rosetta has spent nearly a year waiting. This beautiful 3½-year-old, 50-pound girl has watched countless dogs come and go from the shelter while she remains behind, hoping each day will finally be the day someone sees the incredible dog she truly is. When Rosetta first arrived at the shelter, she loved participating in playgroups and spending time with other dogs. But after being injured during a dog altercation, everything changed. Although her physical wounds healed, the experience left her fearful and uncertain around other dogs. Since then, Rosetta has missed out on many of the enrichment activities that help shelter dogs thrive. Instead of group play, she enjoys one-on-one walks with volunteers—and those moments have become the highlight of her day. What hasn't changed is her love for people. Rosetta absolutely adores human companionship. She lights up around children, happily leans in for affection, and loves relaxing beside her favorite volunteers under the shade of a big tree. She's goofy, affectionate, and full of personality. Like many dogs who have never had consistent training, she's strong, enthusiastic, and still learning her manners—but beneath all that excitement is a dog who simply wants someone to believe in her. With the shelter operating at more than twice its intended capacity, staff members work tirelessly to care for every animal. But dogs like Rosetta need more than a crowded shelter can provide. That's why One By One Animal Advocates is giving Rosetta an incredible opportunity. Rosetta has been accepted into a four-week professional training program at The Bark Barn, where experienced trainers will help her build confidence, develop essential life skills, and learn how to calmly navigate the world around her. Her journey will include muzzle conditioning to ensure safe introductions, confidence-building exercises around other dogs, loose-leash walking, obedience training, place commands, and the structure every dog deserves to become the best version of themselves. Most importantly, she'll be given something every shelter dog longs for: the chance to succeed. While she's in training, The Bark Barn will also help search for the right forever home. Even if Rosetta returns to the shelter afterward, she'll come back with new confidence, valuable skills, and a much greater chance of finally finding the loving family she's waited so patiently for. The cost of Rosetta's four-week boarding and training program has been generously discounted, but $1,500 is still needed to make this life-changing opportunity possible. Training is every bit as important as medical care for dogs like Rosetta. Some animals need surgery to heal their bodies. Rosetta needs guidance, confidence, and the chance to learn the skills that will help her leave shelter life behind forever. Your donation is an investment in Rosetta's future. Every dollar brings her one step closer to confidence, a loving home, and the life she's been waiting for. If you're unable to donate, sharing Rosetta's story is another wonderful way to help. Together, we can give this sweet girl the second chance she has waited nearly a year to receive. Because every dog deserves the opportunity to become someone's best friend. 7/21/26 Update Yesterday, Rosetta was celebrated exactly as she deserved. Her biggest advocate, Diann, surprised her with a beautiful cake decorated with roses to celebrate her final day at the shelter. For one unforgettable afternoon, Rosetta was the guest of honor. She even wore a crown for a little while—because every queen deserves one. While she certainly enjoyed her special treat, we have a feeling her favorite part was all the love. The hugs, the smiles, the extra attention, and being reminded just how many people are cheering her on. It was such a simple act of kindness, yet it meant so much. It was a beautiful reminder that one person really can change an animal’s world. Sometimes, all it takes is someone who believes they’re worth celebrating. Thank you, Diann, for making Rosetta feel so incredibly loved. Yesterday wasn’t just about cake—it was about reminding a very deserving dog that she matters. And judging by that smile, we’d say she knew it.

The Road to Safety Depends on This Van- Help Keep Lifesaving Transports on the Road

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Before sunrise, volunteers with One by One Animal Advocates load dogs and cats into their transport van, each one beginning a journey toward a second chance. Some are leaving overcrowded shelters where time has run out. Others are traveling to foster homes, rescue partners, or adopters waiting to welcome them into loving families. Many have never known kindness before that moment. For these animals, this isn't just a ride. It's the trip that saves their lives. Since June 2024, this single transport van has become one of the rescue's most valuable tools. Nearly every Saturday, volunteers drive more than 600 miles across West Virginia and Maryland, spending up to 14 hours on the road coordinating lifesaving rescue transports. During the week, the van continues making trips to Cincinnati, Akron, and Youngstown to bring vulnerable animals to safety. In just two years, the van has traveled an incredible 110,000 miles helping save countless dogs and cats. But after so many miles spent serving animals in need, the van itself now needs help. During the most recent transport, the driver noticed the van becoming difficult to control around curves. A mechanical inspection revealed serious repairs are urgently needed, including a replacement rear differential, transfer case repairs, and new brakes. Without these repairs, the van cannot safely continue the lifesaving journeys that so many animals depend on. Every day the van is off the road means animals waiting longer for rescue, longer for medical care, longer for foster homes—and in some cases, losing the opportunity for a second chance altogether. Your donation today won't simply repair a vehicle. It will help keep lifesaving transports moving. It will help frightened shelter pets reach the rescues that said "yes. It will help sick and injured animals get to the veterinary care they desperately need. It will help families meet the pets they've been waiting to adopt. Every mile this van travels represents another life changed forever. Please consider making a donation today to help One by One Animal Advocates complete these critical repairs and keep hope rolling down the highway for the animals who have nowhere else to turn. Because sometimes, the road to a forever home begins with a rescue van—and compassionate people like you who keep it moving.

A Gentle Giant Deserves Comfort Again

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

For weeks, this dog survived alone on the streets of Kentucky. People would spot him, take photos, and post sightings on Facebook — but no one could get close enough to help him. This weekend, everything changed. After he was posted on a local community page, the Animal Control Officer and his wife went out determined not to give up. With patience, kindness, and turkey bacon, they finally lured him to safety. When he was finally caught, they weren’t even sure of his gender, age, or true size because of the severity of his matted coat. Shelter workers then spent the weekend patiently shaving off the dirty, tangled coat, revealing an emaciated male dog covered in ticks and sores. He was so gentle they named him Abe, and reached out to One By One for medical assistance. Severe matting like this causes constant pain and injury. It pulls tightly on the skin every moment, leading to deep irritation, open sores, infection, and extreme weakness from prolonged neglect. In some areas, it can become so tight it restricts circulation, adding further pain and damage to already fragile tissue. Every step of his recovery will take time, medical care, and compassion. Right now, he urgently needs: Blood work to evaluate his overall condition Testing for tick-borne illnesses and treatment if positive Flea/tick prevention and deworming Vaccines Ongoing medical care following shaving to treat wounds and parasites Frequent small meals and high-quality nutrition to safely regain strength At this time, he is too medically unstable for neuter surgery, but that will come later when his body is stronger. He survived weeks alone. Now he deserves the chance to heal safely, comfortably, and surrounded by care. If you would like to help be part of his recovery journey, donations toward his veterinary care would mean the world to him — and to us. 7/24/26 Update Thanks to this incredible community, Abe's journey has the happy ending we were all hoping for. When Abe was rescued after surviving alone on the streets, his future was uncertain. Beneath the heavy mats, he was painfully thin, covered in ticks and sores, and in desperate need of medical care. We believed that once his matted coat was removed and he began gaining weight, the hardest part of his recovery would be behind him. But Abe wasn't finished keeping us on our toes. His endlessly wagging "happy tail" turned into an unexpected medical challenge. After two emergency room visits, multiple veterinary appointments, and ultimately two separate tail amputation surgeries, Abe faced yet another hurdle with the same gentle spirit that won everyone's hearts from the very beginning. Today, we're thrilled to share the news we've all been waiting for. Abe had his sutures removed, his little tail nub is healing beautifully, and he has officially been medically cleared by his veterinary team! As wonderful as that news is, it gets even better. Abe has found his forever home. He is now living the life he always deserved with a loving family, two canine siblings, and a little boy who will grow up alongside him. The frightened, neglected dog who once wandered the streets alone is now surrounded by love, safety, and a family that will cherish him for the rest of his life. None of this would have been possible without your compassion. Your donations helped provide the diagnostics, emergency care, surgeries, medications, and follow-up treatment Abe needed every step of the way. Because of your generosity, he was given not only a second chance—but a brand-new beginning. From all of us at One By One, and from Abe's forever family, thank you for believing in him. Your kindness transformed the life of a dog who had every reason to give up, and instead gave him the future he always deserved.

Stella Blue

A Puppy’s Femur Was Dislocated by Cruelty — Stella Blue Needs Surgery

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

At just 5 months old, Stella Blue should be chasing butterflies, making friends, and discovering how joyful life can be. Instead, she’s sitting in a vet cage—scared, hurting, and confused. Her tiny body endured something no animal should ever face. Kicked so hard for allegedly chasing chickens that her femur—the strongest, longest bone in her body—was forced out of its socket. The pain is unimaginable. The betrayal, even more so. A kind neighbor stepped in and got her to safety, but now Stella Blue needs us. She needs orthopedic surgery to repair her leg. She needs pain relief. She needs to be spayed and receive the basic care every puppy deserves. Most of all, she needs a chance to heal—physically and emotionally. We need to raise $2,000 to give Stella Blue that chance. Right now, every movement hurts. Every touch is a question mark—will it bring comfort, or more pain? Let’s show her that hands can be gentle. That people can be kind. That her story doesn’t end like this. Please consider donating, sharing, or simply helping us spread the word. Together, we can give Stella Blue the life she’s been denied—and the future she deserves. 6/4/26 Update We are happy to share that Stella Blue's orthopedic surgery was a success, and while she was under anesthesia, she was also able to be spayed. This is a huge milestone in her journey, but it is not the end of the road. Stella Blue's recovery is still very much ongoing. She faces weeks of healing, follow-up care, rehabilitation, and careful monitoring as she regains her strength and learns to trust that she is finally safe. After everything she has endured at such a young age, both her physical and emotional recovery will take time. We are incredibly grateful for the love, prayers, encouragement, and donations that have helped get Stella Blue this far. Because of your support, she received the surgery she desperately needed and now has the opportunity to heal and thrive. However, we are still working to cover the significant cost of her medical care. Every donation makes a difference and helps ensure Stella Blue can continue receiving the treatment and support she needs throughout her recovery. If you would like to help Stella Blue on her healing journey and support One By One's mission to continue saying yes to animals in need, please consider making a donation. Your generosity is helping give Stella Blue the future she deserves. Thank you for standing beside Stella Blue every step of the way. Her story is still being written, and your support remains a vital part of it. 6/14/26 Update After successfully undergoing orthopedic surgery to repair her injured leg, Stella Blue continues to make steady progress in her recovery. Healing from such a significant injury takes time, but every week we see more strength, confidence, and determination from this resilient young girl. She is gradually becoming stronger on her operative leg and continues to work hard as she regains mobility. Watching her become more comfortable and capable has been incredibly rewarding, especially knowing how much pain she was in when she first came into our care. Perhaps the best part is that Stella Blue is finally getting the chance to be a puppy. Recently, while out on a walk, Stella Blue had an unexpected encounter that made everyone smile. She spotted a turtle and was immediately curious. Instead of being frightened or overly excited, she gently investigated her new friend and seemed fascinated by the slow-moving visitor. We're happy to report that Stella Blue is officially turtle-friendly! Moments like these are a beautiful reminder of how far she has come. A puppy who once knew fear, pain, and uncertainty is now discovering the simple joys of life—exploring the world, making friends, and learning that she is safe. While Stella Blue's progress has been wonderful, her recovery journey is not yet complete. She continues to need follow-up care, monitoring, and support as she builds strength and ensures her surgical repair heals properly. The costs associated with her surgery and ongoing recovery remain significant. We are so grateful for everyone who has donated, shared her story, and cheered her on throughout her journey. If you would like to continue supporting Stella Blue's recovery, donations are still greatly appreciated. Every contribution helps cover her veterinary expenses and allows One By One to continue helping animals who have nowhere else to turn. 7/21/26 Update We are thrilled to share that Stella Blue's story has the happy ending we all hoped for! After undergoing orthopedic surgery to repair her injured leg, Stella Blue faced a difficult recovery and even required several days of hospitalization. Thankfully, she was soon strong enough to leave the hospital and continue healing in a wonderful foster home, where she received the love, patience, and care every puppy deserves. As the weeks passed, Stella Blue's true personality began to shine. Her foster family described her as endlessly curious, delightfully clumsy, and full of puppy energy. She became fascinated by birds and squirrels and would happily try to chase them if not for her leash. And yes—she even made another turtle friend along the way, reminding us all just how sweet and gentle she truly is. Today, we couldn't be happier to report that Stella Blue has made a full recovery. Even more exciting, she has found her forever home! She has been adopted by a loving family where she now has a canine brother to play with, a safe place to call home, and the bright future she always deserved. It's hard to believe this joyful, playful young dog is the same puppy who arrived terrified and in excruciating pain after suffering such unimaginable cruelty. Because of your generosity, Stella Blue received the life-changing surgery and medical care she needed, giving her the chance not only to heal—but to truly live. On behalf of everyone at One By One, thank you to the entire Waggle community for believing in Stella Blue. Every donation, share, and message of encouragement helped give this resilient puppy a second chance. Your compassion transformed Stella Blue's story from one of abuse and heartbreak into one of hope, healing, and love. We couldn't have done it without you. Happy life, sweet Stella Blue! We know your best adventures are just beginning.

Clover Was Left Shot and Helpless in a Field — Now She Needs Us to Help Her Stand Again

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

When animal control in rural Kentucky received a call about a dog lying motionless in an open field, no one knew what they were about to find. There, alone in the grass, was Clover — a young two-year-old dog who hadn’t moved, hadn’t stood, and hadn’t been able to escape whatever nightmare had happened to her. She was alive... but barely hanging on. As officers approached, the devastating truth became clear: Clover could not walk, could not stand, and could not bear weight on her back end. Then they saw the wound — a bullet entry in her back flank. Someone had shot her. We may never know who did this to her, how long she suffered there in silence, or how long she laid in that field waiting for help that might never come. But Clover survived long enough to be found. And now we have a chance to change the ending of her story. This rural Kentucky shelter has no funding for major medical care, so they reached out to us in desperation, asking if we could take responsibility for this sweet girl before it was too late. We said yes. Clover was rushed immediately to the veterinarian, where X-rays confirmed every heartbreaking suspicion: bullet fragments are still lodged inside her body, and the gunshot shattered her pelvis — leaving her unable to stand or walk on her own. As if the pain from being shot wasn’t enough, Clover is also battling multiple untreated medical conditions from prolonged neglect. She tested positive for Lyme disease, Ehrlichia canis, and is suffering from hookworms, meaning her little body is trying to fight infection, parasites, trauma, and severe orthopedic injury all at once. Despite everything she has endured, Clover has remained gentle, quiet, and trusting. She has not given up. So neither can we. Right now Clover needs: \\\\- Emergency pain management - Surgical consultation and orthopedic care for her fractured pelvis - Removal/monitoring of retained bullet fragments - Treatment for Lyme disease and Ehrlichia - Deworming and supportive hospitalization - Ongoing rehabilitation so she can hopefully walk again Her road to recovery will not be short, and it will not be inexpensive — but Clover deserves the chance to heal after surviving such cruelty. No dog should be shot and discarded like she didn’t matter. Today, we are asking you to show Clover that her life does matter. Your donation will go directly toward the lifesaving diagnostics, treatment, medication, and rehabilitation she urgently needs. Every single dollar helps us get this broken girl one step closer to standing again. Please donate if you can, and share Clover’s story far and wide. Because the field where she was left was supposed to be where her life ended. Together, we can make it where her second chance begins. 7/25/26 Update What a journey Clover has been on. When Clover was first found lying motionless in a field after being shot, we didn't know if she would ever walk again. X-rays revealed a shattered pelvis with bullet fragments still lodged in her body, and she was also battling Lyme disease, Ehrlichia, hookworms, and the effects of prolonged neglect. Despite the unimaginable pain she had endured, Clover never stopped showing us her gentle spirit. Today, we're overjoyed to share that Clover's story has the happy ending she always deserved. After spending six weeks hospitalized at Ashland Animal Clinic on strict crate rest, Clover's pelvis healed beautifully. Against the odds, she made a complete physical recovery. While her body had healed, we knew there were emotional wounds that still needed time and patience. Based on everything we learned about her past, it was clear Clover had experienced significant trauma. She was unsure around other dogs and needed help building confidence and learning that the world could be a safe place. To give her the very best chance at a successful future, Clover attended an intensive four-week board-and-train program. It turned out to be exactly what she needed. She blossomed. Clover learned new skills, gained confidence, made canine friends, and discovered how wonderful life could be when surrounded by kindness instead of cruelty. Watching her personality emerge after everything she had survived was nothing short of incredible. And now for the best news of all... Clover has been adopted! The frightened dog who was left for dead in a field has found the loving forever family she always deserved. Her story could have ended the day someone chose cruelty, but because of compassionate supporters like you, it became a story of healing, resilience, and hope instead. Your donations made every step of this journey possible—from emergency veterinary care and hospitalization to rehabilitation, behavioral training, and ultimately preparing Clover for her forever home. Because of your generosity, a dog who had every reason to lose trust in the world was given the opportunity to start over. From all of us, and from Clover's new family, thank you for believing that her life was worth saving. You didn't just help heal her broken body—you gave her the future every dog deserves.

Breaking the Cycle: 32 Cats Spayed in One Day—Help Us Keep Going

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

This month, we completed one of our regular cat clinics and were able to spay and neuter 32 cats in a single day. Thirty-two lives changed. Thirty-two futures rewritten. And countless unwanted litters prevented before they could begin. At every clinic, each cat doesn’t just receive surgery—they receive rabies vaccines, flea treatment, and basic care like ear cleaning, often for the first time in their lives. Many of these cats are community or feral cats who would otherwise never see a vet. Others are owned pets whose families simply can’t afford care right now. And this is just one day. We host at least one large-scale cat clinic every month, in addition to smaller clinics throughout the week. Last year alone, we spayed and neutered over 500 dogs and cats—and we’re already well on track to meet (and exceed) that number again this year. Because here’s the truth: We cannot adopt our way out of the pet overpopulation crisis. For every litter born, shelters and rescues are pushed further beyond capacity. Kittens grow into adults who continue the cycle. And the result is heartbreaking—animals suffering on the streets, overcrowded shelters, and not enough homes. Spay and neuter is the most effective, humane solution we have. That’s why we are committed to offering these services completely free of charge whenever possible—removing barriers so that no animal is left behind simply because of cost. But we can’t do this without you. Every clinic requires surgical supplies, vaccines, medications, and staffing. Every single cat represents a cost—but also an incredible impact. When you donate, you’re not just helping one animal. You’re preventing hundreds—sometimes thousands—of future births. You’re stopping suffering before it starts. You’re creating lasting change. Help us continue these life-saving clinics and expand our reach. Together, we can break the cycle—for good. 5/21/26 Update Because of your support, another successful clinic is complete — and this one changed the lives of 32 cats in a single day. Thirty-two cats were safely spayed and neutered, preventing countless future litters and breaking the cycle of suffering before it could continue. But these clinics are about so much more than surgery alone. Every cat who came through our doors also received important medical care including rabies vaccines, flea treatment, ear cleaning, and compassionate handling that many had likely never experienced before. Some of these cats were community cats who may never have otherwise seen a veterinarian in their entire lives. Others belonged to loving families who simply could not afford care on their own. Thanks to your generosity, cost was not a barrier, and these animals received the help they needed. This clinic is just one example of the work your donations make possible. We continue to host large-scale cat clinics every month, along with smaller clinics throughout the week, because the need has never been greater. Every spay and neuter surgery prevents future suffering, reduces overcrowding in shelters, and gives animals a better chance at healthier, safer lives. The impact of prevention work is enormous, even if it is not always as visible as emergency rescue stories. The truth is that every litter prevented means fewer kittens struggling on the streets, fewer overcrowded rescues, and fewer animals facing neglect, illness, or euthanasia simply because there are not enough homes. We are deeply grateful to everyone who donated, shared, and supported this clinic. Because of you, 32 cats now have a better future — and countless more lives will never have to suffer at all. Thank you for helping us create lasting change, one clinic at a time.

Broken Leg, Tick Disease, and Now Surgery — Olive Needs Critical Care

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Olive’s story almost ended before it even began. A good Samaritan found her after she was likely hit by a car, and rushed her to the emergency vet where her leg was stabilized with a splint. From there, she was passed from clinic to clinic, searching for help — but no one was able to take responsibility for her care. She was in pain, injured, and out of options. And then we got the call. We couldn’t let her story end there. Now safe under our care, Olive is scheduled for orthopedic surgery. Her leg injury is serious and requires a surgical plate to repair the damage and give her any chance at walking normally again. But Olive’s situation is even more complex. She has tested positive for Lyme disease and Ehrlichia (E. canis) — tick-borne illnesses that complicate her treatment and make surgery riskier. Because of the increased bleeding risk, she cannot be spayed at the same time as her orthopedic procedure, meaning she will require additional care down the road. Right now, Olive urgently needs: \- Emergency orthopedic surgery with a plate to repair her leg - Pain management and post-operative care - A full month of doxycycline to treat her tick-borne illnesses - Ongoing monitoring due to surgical and medical risks - Boarding during recovery, as we currently have no placement available Despite everything she’s been through, Olive is very sweet — 52 pounds of pure love, soaking up every bit of kindness she’s offered. She is gentle, trusting, and still believes people will take care of her. We’re determined to prove her right. But we can’t do this alone. Between emergency surgery, medical treatment, and extended boarding, Olive’s care is costly and urgent. Saying “yes” to her meant taking on all of it — because the alternative was unthinkable. Please consider donating to help Olive get the lifesaving care she needs. Every dollar goes directly toward her surgery, treatment, and recovery. Olive has already survived the unthinkable. Now she just needs a chance to heal, to feel safe, and to finally know what it means to be loved. Let’s give her that chance. 5/11/26 Update Olive has officially had her surgery — and we’re so happy to share that it was a success! Her leg was repaired with an orthopedic plate, and she also underwent her spay procedure while under anesthesia. After everything this sweet girl has been through, seeing her finally on the road to recovery feels incredible. Olive has quickly become a favorite at the clinic and spends much of her time relaxing in the clinic manager’s office, where she gets lots of extra love, attention, and snuggles. Despite her painful past, she continues to show everyone just how gentle, trusting, and loving she is. She still has a long recovery ahead of her, including rest, monitoring, medications, and follow-up care to ensure her leg heals properly. But thanks to your support, Olive now has the chance she deserved all along — the chance to heal safely and move toward a brighter future. If you are able, please consider making a donation toward Olive’s continued recovery and medical care. Every contribution — no matter the size — helps ensure this sweet girl can continue healing comfortably and safely. Olive has fought so hard to survive. Let’s help her keep moving forward. 5/20/26 Update We are so excited to share this wonderful final update about Olive! When Olive was first found, injured and alone after likely being hit by a car, her future was incredibly uncertain. Passed from clinic to clinic with a painful leg injury and nowhere to go, she desperately needed someone to say yes to her care. Thanks to your support, that “yes” changed everything. After undergoing orthopedic surgery to repair her leg with a surgical plate, Olive has continued to make incredible progress. At her recent follow-up appointment, her X-rays looked fantastic — so good that her veterinary team was able to remove her splint and finally take off her cone! Even better, Olive has now been discharged to a loving foster home where she is absolutely thriving. Her foster describes her as an absolute doll who loves leaning into people for affection and soaking up every bit of love she can get. And in true Olive fashion, she has already chosen her foster sibling Whale as her “boyfriend!” She’s now enjoying supervised playtime in the backyard as she continues rebuilding strength in her leg, and watching her run, play, and simply enjoy life again has been incredibly rewarding for everyone involved in her journey. Because of your donations, Olive received the lifesaving orthopedic surgery, medical treatment, medications, follow-up care, and safe recovery support she needed to heal. Your compassion gave this sweet girl not only a second chance, but the opportunity to experience the love, safety, and happiness she always deserved. Thank you for being part of Olive’s journey and for helping make her recovery possible.

Crying Out in Pain: Hector Needs Amputation Now

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Hector is a senior beagle mix who should be spending his days resting comfortably, enjoying gentle walks, and soaking up love. Instead, he’s been surviving in pain. This sweet boy was found as a stray and brought to a rural Kentucky shelter, where his condition quickly broke hearts. Hector is overweight, older, and struggling—but what hurts him most is a severely damaged front leg. An X-ray revealed the devastating truth: Hector’s leg was broken long ago and never treated. The injury has healed incorrectly and is now far beyond repair. While our team always does everything possible to save a limb—even for balance—Hector’s leg is no longer helping him. It’s only causing him pain. He holds it tightly against his body, unable to use it, and cries out when it accidentally touches the ground. The kindest and only option left is amputation. While that may sound scary, dogs like Hector often experience incredible relief after surgery. Without the constant pain of a non-functional limb, they can finally move comfortably again—and many go on to live happy, mobile lives. Hector deserves that chance. Right now, he is waiting—hurting, uncomfortable, and overlooked. But with your help, we can give him the surgery he urgently needs, along with pain management, recovery care, and the support to help him adjust and thrive. After everything he’s endured, Hector deserves to feel safe in his own body again. Please consider donating to help Hector get the life-changing care he needs. Every gift brings him one step closer to comfort, healing, and hope 4/28/26 Update Thanks to your incredible generosity, Hector has officially received the life-changing surgery he so desperately needed. His damaged front leg was successfully amputated, removing the source of the chronic pain he had been carrying for far too long. For a senior dog who had been surviving with an old, untreated fracture that never healed properly, this surgery marks the beginning of a far more comfortable future. In addition to his orthopedic care, Hector also tested positive for Lyme disease and is currently being treated with doxycycline to help address that infection as well. As expected, recovery has come with a few challenges. Because Hector lost a front load-bearing leg and is also carrying extra weight, adjusting to his new balance and center of gravity is taking time. His care team is carefully assisting him through this transition while also helping him slim down with a healthy diet plan to make mobility easier on his body. The wonderful news is that Hector continues to show everyone exactly who he is: a very sweet, happy boy who is taking each day in stride. He is healing, adapting, and getting stronger. Most importantly, Hector is no longer living with the constant pain of that unusable limb. Because of your donations, this deserving senior now has the chance to move forward in comfort and with dignity—something every dog deserves in their golden years. Thank you for giving Hector not just surgery, but relief, recovery, and hope for brighter days ahead.

We recently received an urgent message from a dedicated volunteer at a local shelter about a 4-month-old puppy who wasn’t acting like herself. She seemed quiet, weak, and not at all like the playful baby she should be. Trusting their instincts, the volunteer rushed her to the emergency veterinary clinic — and sadly, our worst fears were confirmed. Riot tested positive for Parvo. At just 4 months old and weighing only 11 pounds, Riot should be spending her days playing, exploring, and learning what it means to be loved. Instead, she’s now fighting a dangerous and potentially deadly virus. Parvo attacks quickly, causing severe dehydration, vomiting, and weakness — and without immediate treatment, it can be fatal. No puppy should be abandoned to fend for themselves at such a young age. Being left alone and vulnerable most likely led to Riot contracting this devastating disease. But tonight, she’s no longer alone — and we’re determined to give her every chance to survive. Riot is currently hospitalized and is receiving critical, around-the-clock care. Parvo treatment can be intensive, but puppies are fighters — and Riot deserves the opportunity to grow up and experience the happy life every dog deserves. Your support will help cover her emergency hospitalization and lifesaving care. Every donation, no matter the size, brings Riot one step closer to recovery. Please consider helping this tiny warrior beat Parvo. Together, we can give Riot the chance to leave the hospital, find safety, and finally just be a puppy. 8/11/26 Update We have the best possible news to share about this little fighter! After a long and difficult week traveling back and forth between Ashland Animal Clinic and the Tri-State Animal ER, Riot has officially become a Parvo survivor! 🎉🐾 There were good days and bad days as this brave puppy battled the devastating virus, but she never stopped fighting. Thanks to the emergency veterinary care she received and the incredible support of everyone who donated to her campaign, Riot made it through. And her happy ending doesn't stop there… Riot has been adopted! 💜 She now has a loving family and a brand-new name: Willow. After everything this little girl endured at just four months old, she finally gets to leave her difficult past behind and enjoy the puppyhood she always deserved. From a quiet, sick puppy fighting for her life to a healthy, loved puppy with a family of her own—what an incredible transformation. Thank you to everyone who donated, shared Willow's story, and helped make sure she received the lifesaving care she needed. Your generosity helped give this little survivor a second chance. Her story started with fear and uncertainty, but it ends exactly the way we hoped it would: healthy, happy, and home. Welcome to your new life, Willow!

Help Chico Get Life-Saving Cardiac Care After Losing His Home

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Chico is a 10-year-old Chihuahua who has spent his entire life deeply loved. His owner made sure he was always cared for — she had him neutered, kept him current on vaccines, and even provided daily pain medication to ease his arthritis. But when her own health declined and she had to move into a nursing home, she was heartbroken to say goodbye to her loyal companion. One By One stepped in to help Chico, determined to make sure this sweet senior would continue receiving the care he deserves. During his recent veterinary visit, it became clear that Chico’s health is fragile and he needs urgent follow-up care. His exam revealed abnormalities on his bloodwork, severe dental disease requiring extractions, and — most concerning — an abnormal heart rhythm and unusual heart sounds. While listening to him, the veterinarian noted a possible arrhythmia and even observed his tongue turning a shade of purple, suggesting possible low oxygen levels. These findings make a full cardiac workup essential before any dental surgery can safely be performed. Chico now needs an echocardiogram, ECG, and cardiac consultation with a specialist. These tests will determine whether he requires medication and how to safely proceed with his dental treatment. Unfortunately, the specialty clinic requires payment at the time of service, and the cost for the cardiac workup is $1,300. Additional expenses include: • Dental extractions estimated at $500 • Senior bloodwork already performed: $150 Although this sounds like a lot, Chico is only 10 years old and still has many happy years ahead of him with proper care. Helping him now not only improves his quality of life, but also brings tremendous comfort to the owner who loved him for so long and wants to know he is safe and cared for. Your donation will help Chico receive the cardiac testing he urgently needs and move forward with life-improving treatment. Every contribution, no matter the amount, helps this sweet senior get closer to the care he deserves. Together, we can show Chico — and the people who love him — that senior dogs matter, and they deserve every chance to live their best life. 4/29/26 Update Yesterday, Chico made the long trip to MedVet for his full cardiology consultation, including an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) and ECG, and we truly received the best news we could have hoped for. While the veterinarian did confirm that Chico has two mildly leaky heart valves, these changes are considered age- and breed-related and, thankfully, do not require cardiac medication at this time. Even better — Chico has officially been cleared for anesthesia under a monitored cardiac protocol. This means we can now move forward with the next major step in his healing: addressing the severe dental disease that has likely been causing him chronic pain for quite some time. For a tiny senior dog, bad teeth are not just cosmetic — they are painful, dangerous, and can affect the entire body. Infected teeth and diseased gums can make eating miserable, worsen inflammation, and continue putting strain on his health if left untreated. Now that his heart has been evaluated, Chico desperately needs his dental procedure and extractions scheduled as soon as possible so he can finally eat comfortably, feel better, and enjoy the happy golden years he deserves. But we still need your help to get him there. The cardiology visit was a huge expense, and we are now actively fundraising for Chico’s upcoming dental surgery. This procedure is essential — not optional — and every day we wait is another day Chico continues living with pain in his mouth. Please donate and share to help us finish what we started for Chico. His best years are waiting — and we cannot get him there without you.

Adora’s Foot Was Crushed in a Trap — Help Save Her Leg

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Adora, a sweet Beagle, has endured unimaginable pain — and now she needs your help to heal. A heartbreaking plea came from a fellow volunteer animal group in Kentucky about a dog whose foot had been caught in a painful trap. The injury was devastating. The tissue between her toes had been stripped away, leaving bone exposed. She was in such severe pain that she even attempted to chew off her own foot. Her owner, believing there was no hope, considered ending her life with a fatal shot to “put her out of her misery.” Thankfully, compassionate rescuers intervened just in time. They rushed her to a veterinarian, where she arrived in shock. The veterinary team worked quickly to stabilize her, clean the wound, run bloodwork, and start antibiotics and pain medication. While amputation of her leg was initially recommended, the rescue group had already exhausted their funds and reached out to One By One for help. Adora was then transferred to Ashland Animal Clinic, where there was finally a glimmer of hope. Despite the severity of her injury, the pad on the bottom of her foot remained intact. This gives the veterinary team the opportunity to attempt a delicate surgery — amputating behind her toes while preserving the pad, which could allow Adora to retain use of her leg instead of losing it entirely. This brave girl has already been through so much, but she’s fighting. With your support, Adora has a chance not only to survive, but to walk comfortably and enjoy a happy life.Your donation will help cover the cost of Adora’s life-changing surgery and care. Every contribution, no matter the amount, brings her one step closer to healing and keeping her leg. Adora’s future now depends on compassion and community. Please consider donating to help this resilient girl get the second chance she deserves. 5/18/26 Update Because of your incredible compassion and support, Adora’s story has the happy ending we were all hoping for. When Adora first came to rescue, she was suffering from a devastating injury after her foot became trapped, leaving exposed bone, severe tissue damage, and unimaginable pain. She arrived terrified, in shock, and fighting just to survive. At one point, it seemed like she might lose her leg — or even her life. But thanks to the quick actions of rescuers, dedicated veterinary care, and the generosity of donors like you, Adora was given a chance. After undergoing surgery to save as much of her leg as possible, Adora began the long road to recovery. Day by day, she healed. The brave little Beagle who once could barely endure the pain slowly transformed into a happy, comfortable dog again. And now, we are overjoyed to share the best update of all: Adora is fully healed and has been adopted into a loving home. This once-suffering girl now has the future she always deserved — filled with safety, comfort, love, and the freedom to run and enjoy life again. None of this would have been possible without the kindness of people who chose to care when Adora needed it most. From all of us at One By One, thank you for making Adora’s second chance possible. Your donations helped provide emergency veterinary care, surgery, pain management, and the recovery support that changed her life forever. Because of you, Adora’s story did not end in tragedy. It ended with healing, hope, and a family to call her own.

Donate Today to Help Hazel Survive

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

This sweet girl’s name is Hazel, a 3-year-old pitbull who has already endured more than any dog ever should. She lived her entire life on a chain — facing loneliness, harsh weather, and never knowing if she would even be fed that day. Finding herself saved by One by One Animal Advocates her life is now taking a turn for the better, but we want so much more for Hazel. She deserves warmth, safety, medical care, and a family who will treasure her. Today she underwent surgery, and we received an urgent update from the vet: Hazel had an abnormal amount of bleeding during her spay. While in surgery, they ran additional testing and discovered she is positive for E. canis and Lyme — two tick-borne illnesses. The excessive bleeding is a symptom of E. canis, and combined with her fragile uterus (likely from previous pregnancies), it caused serious concern. She had to be transported to the ER for hospitalization so she could be monitored for possible internal bleeding. After spending the night at the ER, she is now back at Ashland Animal Clinic where she continues to be closely observed. This was unexpected, and the emergency care is costly — but necessary to save her life. Donations made today will go directly toward her ER visit, hospitalization, continued monitoring, treatment for tick-borne illnesses, vaccines, preventatives, and everything she needs to finally have a real chance at a healthy future. Hazel has already proven she is a fighter. Now she needs us. Please consider donating and sharing so we can meet our goal and show Hazel she is no longer alone. 4/16/26 Update After her frightening post-surgery complications, Hazel remained hospitalized for close monitoring and repeat bloodwork. The biggest concern was the abnormal bleeding caused by her E. canis diagnosis, but thanks to attentive veterinary care and her own incredible resilience, the bleeding has resolved and her bloodwork has improved. Because of that progress, Hazel has officially been cleared to leave the hospital and return to her foster home—something we were all anxiously waiting for. Even during her recovery, Hazel has shown us exactly who she is: a loving, gentle soul who just wants to be close to people. While staying at the clinic, she quickly became everyone’s favorite “helper.” She greeted clients, soaked up attention, and brought smiles to the staff who have worked so hard to care for her. In true Hazel fashion, she’s also become a bit of a fashion icon—the team loves dressing her up when she comes back for check-ups, and she soaks up every second of it. After everything she’s been through—living chained outside, battling illness, and facing scary medical complications—Hazel continues to choose love. She is truly something special. She still has a road ahead as she continues treatment for her tick-borne illnesses and regains her strength, but this is a huge step in the right direction. We are so grateful for everyone who has supported Hazel so far. Your donations made it possible for her to receive the emergency care she needed to survive. If you’re able to continue sharing or contributing, it truly makes a difference as we support Hazel through the rest of her recovery and give her the life she has always deserved. 4/27/26 Update Hazel’s journey has been nothing short of incredible, and today we are so happy to share the news we have all been waiting for: Hazel has made a full recovery. After the terrifying complications following her spay surgery, the emergency hospitalization, the abnormal bleeding, and the unexpected diagnoses of both E. canis and Lyme disease, there were many moments where we simply had to take things one day at a time. Her little body had been through so much after years of neglect, living chained outside without proper care or protection. But Hazel never stopped fighting. With continued veterinary monitoring, medication, follow-up visits, and lots of love from her foster family, Hazel steadily regained her strength. She successfully completed her full treatment plan for both tick-borne illnesses, and we are thrilled to report that she has recovered beautifully. Hazel continues to charm everyone she meets with her affectionate personality, her sweet “helper” attitude, and of course her love of dressing up for attention. Watching her transform from a forgotten chained dog into a joyful, thriving companion has been one of the most rewarding things we could witness. Because of your donations, Hazel received every emergency intervention, medication, test, and follow-up treatment she needed to survive and heal. Your support truly changed the course of her life. While Hazel’s medical battle is behind her now, rescues like One by One Animal Advocates are still saying yes to dogs just like her every day — dogs who arrive sick, neglected, and in urgent need of care. Please consider making a donation today to help the next animal facing a medical emergency get the same chance Hazel did. 5/20/26 Update What a journey Hazel has had — and we could not be happier to share this beautiful final update. When Hazel first came into rescue, she was severely emaciated, exhausted, and had spent her entire life chained outside. She had known neglect, repeated pregnancies, hunger, and loneliness instead of the love and safety every dog deserves. Soon after finally being rescued, she faced even more challenges when complications during her spay surgery revealed underlying tick-borne illnesses that nearly cost her life. But Hazel never stopped fighting. Thanks to the incredible care from her veterinary team, the dedication of her rescue, and the compassion of supporters like you, Hazel received the emergency hospitalization, treatment, medications, monitoring, and follow-up care she desperately needed. Step by step, she regained her strength, healed from her illnesses, and finally got the chance to simply be a dog. And now for the happiest news of all: Hazel has officially been ADOPTED! Today, Hazel spends her days exploring trails, hiking with her family, cuddling with her fur siblings, and enjoying long peaceful naps in a home where she is cherished. The dog who once lived at the end of a chain now has a future filled with adventure, comfort, safety, and love. Her transformation is truly incredible, and it would not have been possible without every person who donated, shared her story, and believed she deserved a second chance. Because of your support, Hazel’s story did not end in suffering — it ended in healing, happiness, and a family of her very own. Thank you for helping change Hazel’s life forever.

From the Roadside to Hope: Help Josephine Heal

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Josephine is safe—but her journey is far from over. Thanks to an incredibly kind Good Samaritan, Josephine was given a lifeline. She was allowed to take shelter in a garage and was then transported to the vet, where we quickly learned that her medical needs were far greater than we ever could have predicted. Josephine is an older girl who has clearly been living with pain for a long time. An old, untreated leg injury healed incorrectly, leaving her with joint thickening and arthritis that affects her mobility. This likely put her at serious risk—she couldn’t move quickly enough to avoid danger, which may be how she ended up in harm’s way in the first place. While her leg cannot be surgically fixed, her pain can be managed with medication so she can be comfortable. She also suffers from keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eye), meaning she does not produce enough tears and requires daily eye medication. Thankfully, her eye pressures are normal and she has no ulcers at this time. She tested positive for Lyme and Ehrlichia—tick-borne diseases we unfortunately see far too often—and has already begun antibiotics. Josephine still needs to be spayed and requires a dental due to moderate tartar buildup. She has received senior bloodwork, vaccinations, deworming, and preventatives. While all of that is expected for a dog who has lived life without consistent care, her most urgent concern is far more serious. Josephine has a mass on the right side of her face and another on the back of her head. These masses need to be surgically removed and sent out for histopathology so we can determine what we’re dealing with and what comes next. Until we have answers, we can’t move forward—and neither can she. At this moment, Josephine does not have a foster or rescue placement lined up. What she does have is a gentle, loving spirit and a chance at a future she never should have had to wait this long for. The estimated cost for Josephine’s medical care and boarding is between $1,600 and $1,900. We cannot do this without immediate help. Your donation tells us you believe senior dogs like Josephine are worth saving. It tells us to keep stopping for the old dogs left on the side of the road, to keep saying yes when it’s hard, and to keep giving them the chance to become someone’s treasured companion. Please donate for Josephine today. She has endured enough. Now she deserves healing, comfort, and love. ❤️ 4/9/26 Update Thanks to your generosity, Josephine had surgery to remove the mass from her face and abdomen. The histopathology concluded cancer, but surgery should be curative. We are happy to report she has been adopted!

Abandoned at a Boat Ramp, Vomiting & In Pain—Pinecone Needs a Village

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Pinecone is a young puppy who was abandoned at a boat ramp in Guyandotte and brought to the HCWAS shelter. She is currently under emergency veterinary care. Despite a rough start, she has shown resilience and trust while being cared for by shelter staff. After vomiting, Pinecone was tested for parvo, which was thankfully negative. However, she then vomited a broken penny. X-rays confirmed she ingested multiple coins. She was rushed to emergency care and requires urgent abdominal exploratory surgery. Treating hospital: HCWAS emergency veterinary staff. Pinecone is a gentle, innocent puppy whose circumstances were never her choice. Despite being abandoned and in pain, she remains trusting and sweet with caregivers. Her will to survive and her vulnerability make her especially deserving of a second chance and a safe, loving future. Pinecone’s emergency surgery, hospitalization, bloodwork, IV fluids, and medications are costly and far exceed the shelter’s limited budget. Donations will directly save her life and give her the chance to heal, thrive, and eventually find a loving home. 3/10/26 Update: PINECONE MADE A FULL RECOVERY!! Pinecone actually required three abdominal surgeries to remove all of the coins she had swallowed. She went back and forth between her foster home and the vet for incision care, vaccines, and routine follow-ups—and through it all, she was an absolute trooper. We’re thrilled to share that Pinecone has made a full recovery and has officially been adopted! 💛 Thank you to everyone who supported Pinecone on her journey—this happy ending wouldn’t have been possible without you. 3/10/26 Update: PINECONE MADE A FULL RECOVERY!! Holly is a 3 year old American Pit Bull Terrier in Huntington, WV Needing Emergency Surgery !

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

This sweet micro bully mama to be was surrendered to the shelter because she needs emergency surgery. She is a micro bully who was impregnated by a large dog. She has been in labor over 36 hours indicating the pups are likely too large to deliver. The puppies are at risk of oxygen deprivation and death; and mom is at risk of uterine rupture and death. We do not know much about her but so far from what we have gathered Holly is sweet, gentle, and calm and shows a brave, loving spirit even in this crisis. Holly has been in labor for over 36 hours, and the puppies are likely too large to deliver. They face life-threatening oxygen loss, and she is at critical risk of uterine rupture and death. The shelter does not have the funds for the emergency care she urgently needs. 2/5/26 Update: Holly’s Road to Healing! HOLLY UPDATE 🐾 Holly underwent an emergency C-section and delivered seven puppies. Sadly, after an extended labor, only three were born alive, and one passed shortly after delivery. Holly was a devoted mother—gentle, nurturing, and attentive from the start. The veterinary staff closely monitored the puppies and quickly stepped in when they needed extra support. The vet even took the remaining two puppies home to tube-feed them, but despite every effort, they both sadly passed away. Holly made a full recovery from her surgery and has since been adopted into a loving home. 💙 Thank you to everyone who kept Holly and her puppies in your thoughts and supported her along the way. Khloe

Khloe is a 2 year old Mix-Breed in Huntington, WV, who needs $2,500 for treatment.

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Khloe is a gentle, seven-year-old pit mix whose world was quickly slipping away. When her owner reached out for help, Khloe had already been sick for a week. She couldn’t eat, had lost 5–10 pounds, and was bleeding heavily. By the time we rushed her into the hospital, her bloodwork was terrifying: her white blood cell count—normally a sign of infection—was 8 to 20 times higher than it should have been, and her kidney values were off the charts. The diagnosis: pyometra, a deadly uterine infection requiring immediate surgery. The prognosis: the vet didn’t think she would survive the operation. Before they could even attempt surgery, Khloe spent hours on IV fluids and strong antibiotics—giving her the tiniest fighting chance. When they got the call that she survived her emergency surgery, we cried with relief. But only a few hours later, the nightmare wasn’t over. Khloe suddenly took a turn for the worse. She became pale and yellow, refused food, and her blood levels showed life-threatening anemia. An ultrasound revealed fluid in her abdomen. She needed a blood transfusion and a second emergency surgery—all within the same day. Khloe has beaten the odds again. She has finally been discharged home, resting and healing. She will return in two weeks for suture removal and repeat bloodwork to monitor her kidneys and anemia. But her fight has come with a cost. Her current total is $2,300, and they still need to cover her upcoming bloodwork in two weeks. Every dollar, every prayer, every share truly matters. No donation is too small. Khloe’s life was nearly taken from her—twice—and she is only here today because people like you chose to stand beside her. Please help us give Khloe the full recovery she deserves. 2/19/26 UPDATE We are so excited to share an incredible update about Khloe! Khloe recently went back to the vet for repeat blood work, and we received the best possible news — her kidneys are improving, and her blood levels are holding steady following her transfusion. This is exactly what we were hoping for! Since then, Khloe has made a complete recovery. She’s back to being herself, and her owner is beyond grateful to still have his beloved girl by his side. Her story is a powerful reminder of what compassion and community can do. From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for giving Khloe a second chance. 3/29/26 Update Khloe has completely recovered, and been medically cleared by the veterinarian. She is back to her happy, playful self without a care in the world. We are thankful for the donations she received for her emergency surgery, and thankful she is now spayed and will never endure this again. Thank you for being Khloe's hero!

A Senior Soul Deserving Comfort

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Lilly was first spotted at the riverfront, wandering with another dog, clearly searching for safety and care. Concerned people called the shelter, and that’s when her story came to light. She had an owner, but he was homeless—and for the past year, so was she. Now, at 8–10 years old, this sweet senior girl has finally been taken into One by One Animal Advocates. Thin and frail, with a noticeably large tumor on her side and fly bitten ears, she is facing an uphill battle—but one they are determined to help her fight through. So far, she’s received a 4DX test, full blood work, and chest X-rays. Next, she’s scheduled for an ultrasound to prepare for surgery. Her body shows the wear of years without consistent food, shelter, or medical attention, but her gentle spirit still shines through. She deserves warmth. She deserves health. She deserves to know love in her golden years. But we can’t do it alone. Her ongoing diagnostics and care are costly, and we need your help to give her the healing and comfort she’s been denied for too long. Update 9/17/25 Lilly’s mass was successfully removed and sent for histopathology. Unfortunately, it came back as a sarcoma (cancer), and the vet believes he got clean margins. She spent three weeks hospitalized for monitoring, wound care, and bandage changes. The vet staff called her a sweet old gal who would allow them to do anything to her. She was just recently discharged to a foster home to complete her recovery, and she has learned that she receives a treat after her walk. She loves to spend the afternoon napping on the couch. Having this big tumor that weighed her down for years removed surely added comfort to her remaining years.

Help Rocky Through a Horrible Attack

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

One by One Animal Rescue was asked to help a stray dog who was attacked by a pack of dogs. A good Samaritan had been feeding him and thought she had found him a home, but the family brought him back to her after the attack. The good Samaritan was distraught by the situation, but he was not her dog, and she could not afford an emergency bill. She reached out to the rescue pleading for help saying that he could barely walk, and that “he smells like potted meat”. Rocky went straight to the ER, where they gave him his name. He is approximately 35 pounds, estimating 5-6 years old but it's hard to determine. He suffered wounds to his head, but his groin and neck took the brunt of the attack. Understandably, he was in a lot of pain, making the exam difficult. His liver values were elevated and he has a grade 4 heart murmur, so he cant be sedated. On top of that, he is Lyme positive. He is limping on his front leg possibly from Lyme disease or the attack; it has been too painful to XRY him. He has received injectable and oral pain meds. They gave him a partial bath until they got to his neck and he became distressed, so they allowing him to rest. The most notable thing the ER vets said was that they have smelled a lot of things, but nothing as bad as him. Sadly, the infection was raging. He is on two antibiotics. Rocky has a long road ahead to recover, and desperately needs your prayers and donations. Whenever One by One encounters injuries like Rocky’s, they have to consider the road to recovery and long term prognosis and factor in medical advice given by the vet. They knew Rocky was in a lot of pain, that his injuries were severe, and the infection possibly the worst the vet staff has encountered. A couple days later, the vet started IV fluids, which had previously been held due to high liver values, so he could add an additional high-powered IV antibiotic. The chlorhexadine bath helped some with the odor but the wounds have drained (a good thing), and the smell is still present. An inspection of his neck and ear suggest that skin will slough off. With all of that being said, Rocky is bright and alert, has offered a tail wag, and is drinking. We pray the dark days are behind him and this rescue vows to walk side by side with Rocky offering support every step of the way until he steps again into the sunshine. We are thankful for a report that suggested a little improvement. Their plan is to transfer him tomorrow to a day clinic. Rocky needs your prayers, your love, and your encouragement. Let him know life is worth living.

Help Support Poppy's Path to Hope and Healing

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Poppy is just a baby, only a year old, trying to survive on the streets when the unimaginable happened. She was struck by an ambulance on a Saturday, and by the time she arrived at the shelter two days later, it was clear her leg was badly broken. Despite the pain she was in, Poppy’s gentle spirit shone through. She greeted staff with soft eyes, leaning in for comfort from the people she was learning to trust. A full veterinary exam brought even more concerns. In addition to the broken leg that requires orthopedic surgery, Poppy tested positive for both Lyme disease and ehrlichia—two serious tick-borne illnesses that can weaken the immune system, cause joint pain, fever, anemia, and long-term complications if left untreated. While both conditions are manageable with early intervention, she’s facing a long road to recovery, one filled with medication, monitoring, and lots of loving care. Poppy’s still just a puppy, with her whole life ahead of her. She's shown us she's a fighter, but she can't do this alone. We’re committed to giving her every chance to heal fully and live the life she deserves, one filled with safety, love, and play. We’re asking for your support to help cover the cost of Poppy’s surgery and ongoing treatment. Every donation brings us closer to giving her the pain-free, joy-filled life she deserves. She’s already endured so much, and with your help, her future can be full of hope. Update 10/13/25 Poppy’s leg was saved! They were able to get her to an orthopedic specialist who was able to reconstruct her leg internally with hardware. Following the surgery, she had to be on mobility restrictions, but only needed a pressure bandage. Throughout the entire process, she maintained her sweet demeanor. Thank you for helping save her leg!

Help A Very Fortunate Pup Heal After Life-Saving Surgery

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Freya is just one year old, but she’s already survived more than most dogs ever should. When her owner had to move and couldn’t take her along, Freya had already been suffering for weeks. She was barely eating, losing weight rapidly, and growing weaker by the day. We were tagged in a post asking for help and immediately rushed her to the vet, hoping to uncover what was wrong. Initial tests ruled out parvo but revealed serious concerns. Her body was failing, and time was running out. Despite treatment for hookworms and severe diarrhea, Freya continued to decline. Bloodwork pointed to a possible gastrointestinal issue, and an ultrasound showed fluid-filled loops in her intestines and concerning tissue nearby. The vet recommended exploratory surgery, even though Freya’s condition, marked by anemia and low protein levels, made the procedure extremely high risk. It was a difficult decision, but without it, she wouldn’t survive. What they found stunned even the experienced surgeon. A single thread had been silently slicing through Freya’s intestines, slowly causing immense damage. Her intestines were bunched, twisted, and scarred. In total, eight incisions were needed to repair the damage, with evidence that some areas had already begun to heal around the disintegrating thread. It’s nothing short of a miracle that she made it through. The vet who performed the surgery called her “a very fortunate pup.” Freya is now recovering under close watch. She’ll remain hospitalized as she heals, with more ultrasounds ahead to ensure no remnants were missed. The surgery came at a significant cost, but we know her life is worth it. Freya still has so much love to give, and we’re asking for your help to give her the bright future she nearly lost. Please consider donating toward her care. Together, we can help Freya rest easily and look forward to better days.

Ava’s Second Chance: Healing After Unthinkable Hurt

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

When Ava arrived at a rural county shelter, staff noticed something was wrong. She never used her front leg. She was calm and sweet, but clearly in pain. X-rays revealed the heartbreaking truth: Ava had been shot months earlier, and her elbow was completely shattered. Left without medical care, her body tried to heal on its own, but the damage was too severe. One by One Rescue stepped in to help, sending her to a trusted vet. The injury had fused in an unusable position, and the joint couldn’t be repaired. While we hoped she might be able to keep the leg for balance, the vet warned that it would only cause more pain and could even lead to self-injury. The kindest choice—for Ava’s comfort and safety—was to amputate. Ava made it through surgery with flying colors and is already adjusting beautifully. She’s curious, gentle, and beginning to play like the young dog she is. Even with one less leg, she’s proving that joy and resilience are still part of her story. Her tail wags a little more each day, and her foster family is showering her with the love she’s missed for far too long. With your help, Ava can continue her healing journey. Donations will go toward her surgery, pain management, and follow-up care. Your support means everything. It is what makes second chances like Ava’s possible. Thank you for support! 2/3/26 UPDATE We are overjoyed to share that Ava has completely recovered from surgery and has adjusted wonderfully to life with three legs. She’s strong, resilient, and full of spirit — truly an inspiration. And the best news of all… Ava was ADOPTED! 🏡✨ She’s gone to the \_perfect\_ forever home — one with a loving canine sibling, feline friends, and a family who truly understands and embraces her special needs. Knowing that Ava is safe, loved, and supported brings us so much comfort. Because of you, her best years are still ahead, and her future is bright. Thank you to everyone who donated, shared, and believed in Ava. You helped turn a tragedy into a second chance — and we are endlessly grateful. ❤️

Gracie Fought to Protect Her Babies—Now She Needs Our Help

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Gracie, a two-year-old pregnant cat, was attacked by a dog and violently shaken, leaving her with a severely broken front leg. She was taken to the ER to be euthanized, but the veterinary team saw something in her worth saving. They paid for her emergency care themselves and reached out for help securing her future. X-rays revealed three unborn kittens, their tiny skeletons visible beside the fracture. The vet presented three options: end the pregnancy and repair the leg, deliver the kittens early via c-section, or fix the leg using anesthesia safe for pregnancy and allow a natural birth. Gracie had fought to protect them—she was given the chance to keep fighting. Her orthopedic surgery was more difficult than expected. The joint capsule was damaged, and a pin was placed to stabilize the break. Gracie is now resting in a quiet foster home where she’s gaining strength. She’s eating well, responding to care, and preparing to bring her kittens safely into the world when the time is right. Gracie’s emergency surgery couldn’t wait. Now that she’s stable, donations are needed to cover her medical expenses and continued recovery. Every gift helps give Gracie and her kittens a real chance at the life she was nearly denied. Please consider supporting her journey today. Update 06/29 Gracie's singleton kitten and her are bonding beautifully. Sadly two of her kittens did not make it, it was all just too much. But thankfully, the one that did survive is doing wonderfully. Momma and baby are inseparable! It is such a beautiful sight to see now that they are both safe and are now just focused on relaxing and healing. Thank you to all who have supported her so far, and we will keep you updated. Update 07/16 Gracie continues to recover well and her personality has begun to blossom. Her little one is growing quickly and keeping her on her toes as little ones do. We are so thankful they have each other to help one another. Thank you for your ongoing support!

Help Graham Stand Strong Again

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Graham was first seen limping through an area known for dumped dogs. He was alone, thin, and eating from trash. He stayed in the same spot for days, holding his injured leg off the ground. When a local reached out for help, One by One Animal Advocates didn’t hesitate. Graham needed urgent care, and time wasn’t on his side. At the vet, the damage was worse than expected. His toe jutted out at a 90-degree angle, and the open wound showed tendon and bone. It had likely been that way for weeks. The vet performed surgery, removed the damaged toe, cleaned and repositioned the tissue, but couldn’t fully close the wound due to dead skin and granulation. Graham spent two weeks in the hospital, getting bandage and splint changes while the infection was managed. Though his leg is severely atrophied, there’s no nerve damage. Now in recovery, he's receiving daily support, gentle exercise, and learning how to walk again. Through it all, he remains calm, sweet, and cooperative. Graham’s vet bills are high, and his recovery will be long. One by One Animal Advocates stepped up without time to fundraise, and now, they need your help to close the gap. Please consider donating to support his continued care and rehab. Update Graham is steadily healing, in big part due to the dedicated efforts his foster dad is doing to help his recovery—including massaging his atrophied hip muscles and doing leg walking exercises to try to rebuild his leg muscle. Soon, our boy will go to the vet for recheck (fingers and paws crossed everything goes as planned!). He has a ways to go but we are so proud of the progress he’s already made. A HUGE thank you to everyone continuing to follow & support Graham’s recovery journey. Every ounce of support is greatly appreciated!

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

William’s journey to a new life began with a simple act of hope. After being hit by a car, he limped to a neighbor’s house every day for ten days, looking for food and suffering with a badly broken leg. The neighbor finally convinced William’s owners to surrender him so he could get the help he needed. That’s when One by One Animal Advocates stepped in to save him. X-rays showed William had a serious tibial fracture that started to heal incorrectly, due to the delay in care he needed. Surgery was tricky, but the vet found a way to wire his leg and place it in a splint. Saving his leg wasn’t simple, but William’s resilience and the love of his rescue team made all the difference and his healing journey is now underway. After surgery, William stayed in the hospital for a month for monitored healing. Even through the tough days, he stayed sweet and full of life. At just one year old, he’s discovering joy again, learning that people care and that better days are ahead. William’s future is looking brighter with every step he takes. One by One Animal Advocates is determined to show him that he matters and that he is worth saving. Every donation, no matter the size, helps remind William he is loved. Please consider donating today to help give William the bright future he, like all animals, deserves. Update 05-05-25 William hit a huge roadblock when he developed sores the length of his leg that would not heal despite multiple rounds of antibiotics, and he had to be hospitalized for three weeks. William’s splint and bandages have been removed, his leg is healing, and he has been discharged, but not without a hefty expense. Thank you for your ongoing support! Update 06-10-25 William has continued to heal and is doing so well! He’s healing steadily, and his sweet personality is truly shining through. He’s become more confident by the day. A kind soul posted her on Facebook in a desperate plea for help. That’s when One by One Animal Advocates stepped in—refusing to let her suffer in silence. Initially, it was believed Jinx had a subluxated tail. But after spending a weekend at the emergency clinic, she was transferred to a veterinary hospital where further diagnostics revealed the true extent of her injuries: a fracture at L7 in her spine. Jinx is currently unable to walk or stand. She is under close observation as veterinarians monitor her pain levels and nerve function in her back legs. Despite the pain and fear, Jinx remains gentle and trusting. Her quiet spirit speaks volumes—she leans into the hands that comfort her, showing glimpses of the sweet soul underneath all the trauma. Her road to recovery will be long and uncertain, but with time, patience, and the right support, there is hope. Help Hardy's Fight: From Abandoned to Adored

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

One By One Animal Advocates received a call about a dog in desperate need. He had been hit by a car and left behind—cold, broken, and alone in the pouring rain. When rescuers arrived, they found him unable to stand, his body shattered from the impact. His leg was broken, his hips crushed, his spine fractured. His tiny body had been through unthinkable trauma. And yet, through the pain, Hardy managed to lift his head—just enough to show that he was still fighting. Hardy was taken to the vet to get an understanding of the full extent of his heartbreaking injuries. His body littered with broken bones. X-rays also revealed he had been starving for so long that he had eaten animal bones just to survive. Hardy is now safe and receiving the urgent care he needs—IV fluids, pain management, and love from his caregivers. He will need to undergo multiple surgeries. His knee cap requires a surgical screw, and his hip must be corrected where the ball of his femur has broken off. After an appropriate recovery time, he’ll return for another round of surgery to fix his rectum and be neutered. It’s a lot for one small dog to endure—but Hardy is ready to fight, and his caretakers ready to fight for him. His medical costs including hospitalization, X-rays, medications, and major surgeries are costly. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps Hardy take another step toward healing. Your kindness tells him that he is not alone anymore, that his fight is worth it. Update 03/17 We are ecstatic to report little Hardy is now in foster care! He had surgery last week on his broken leg and broken hip, and has to be carefully monitored in crate rest while his other broken hip and broken back heal on their own. We’ve had lots of dogs on crate rest for broken hips/pelvis, but this is our first dog in foster with a broken back. The resiliency of dogs is amazing! Once we get him through this tricky recovery process his outlook is bright! Update 03/26 Hardy is well on his way to recovery! So much so that his mobility restrictions have been lifted, and he has been given the go-ahead to engage in play with his foster family’s personal dog. To say we are amazed and overjoyed is an understatement!

Sawyers Story: If You See Something, Say Something

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

When a Good Samaritan arrived at a residence to repossess stolen property, they never expected to find a heartbreaking scene that would change a life forever. In the corner of the cluttered space, Sawyer's eyes pleaded for mercy. Her skeleton frame frail and broken. Thankfully, animal control was called and Sawyer was taken into the care of One by One Animal Advocates. She was so emaciated that the vet gave her the lowest possible body score of only 1 out of 9 on the body condition scale—severely emaciated, suffering from extreme muscle wasting, and barely clinging to life. Desperate to survive, she had been eating whatever she could find. Her stomach was filled with plastic, debris, and trash. On top of it all, an old, untreated fracture in her growth plate has left her leg severely damaged, making every movement agonizing. She is unable to bear weight and screams out in pain when she tries. Surgery is required, but the truth is, Sawyer isn’t even strong enough for surgery yet. Her body is too fragile, too malnourished, and even vaccines must wait until she gains weight and stabilizes. Sawyer has suffered alone for too long, but now she has a chance. One By One Animal Advocates is committed to giving her the care she desperately needs, but can’t do it without you. With your support, Sawyer can be provided the nutrition, medical care, and surgery that will give her a real shot at life. Juliet’s Fight for Her Life—And Her Kittens’

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Juliet was once a stray cat struggling to survive in rural Kentucky. She had no caretaker, no shelter, and no food —just the growing weight of her unborn kittens inside her. She was extremely hungry, her fragile body searching for anything to eat. Desperate and exhausted, Juliet went into labor, doing everything she could to bring her babies into the world. Thankfully, this is when her rescuers stepped in. They rushed her to an emergency vet. By this time, Juliet had given birth to three tiny kittens, but something was wrong. Two more were still inside her, and no matter how hard she tried, they wouldn't come. They were too large. She was too weak. Without an urgent C-section, Juliet and her remaining kittens wouldn’t make it. Thanks to the incredible efforts of her rescuers and the veterinary team, the surgery was a success. Juliet made it through, and so did her kittens. For maybe the first time in her life, Juliet is finally safe and loved. Sadly, one of her babies was born with a severe cleft palate. Despite all efforts to help him thrive, this tiny kitten did not make it. The other four are doing well, constantly being loved on and hugged by mom. Juliet and her babies need continued medical care, nourishment, and a safe place to heal. Will you help Juliet and her kittens get the second chance they deserve? Young Mom Cat, Pearl, Needs Surgery For A Rare And Dangerous Condition

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Pearl came to One by One Animal Advocates after she had recently given birth to multiple kittens, but sadly only one named Diamond survived. To make matters worse, she was absolutely consumed by fleas, leaving her skin incessantly itchy, raw, and painful. The rescue noticed that her belly was enlarged and they assumed she was already pregnant again. However, Pearl’s condition rapidly declined. She began panting, became lethargic, and her body was hot to the touch. She was rushed to the emergency room. Her bloodwork revealed troubling abnormalities, but was clear of any signs of pregnancy, pyometra, or FIP. She was placed on IV fluids and antibiotics in hopes to relieve some of her symptoms and help her recover. She showed slight improvement but was not rebounding the way the vet would have liked to see. Finally, after ongoing vet visits, extensive bloodwork, and a variety of medications, her condition was discovered. Pearl has an ectopic spleen, meaning that it has actually displaced itself in her tiny body. This is a rare and dangerous condition that requires surgical removal. Pearl has fought so hard to stay well and take care of her one surviving kitten and One by One is determined to help her heal. Pearl’s surgery and care will be costly, but her life is worth it. Please donate today to help Pearl receive this life-saving surgery. Together, we can make a difference.

Help Priscilla Recover from Life-Saving Surgery After Years of Litters

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Priscilla’s stomach was the first battleground you could see. Scarred, stretched, and sagging, it painted a brutal picture of her past. This gentle girl gave herself over and over, nursing countless litters until there was almost nothing left. By the time she landed at the shelter, she was just skin and bones, her body a roadmap of relentless sacrifice. And yet, those quiet days in that bare kennel might have been the safest she’d ever known. Then came a routine spay surgery that should have opened a door to a better life. But instead of relief, there was a faint line of blood along her incision site—an indication that it was *far* worse than a mere minor complication. Because beneath that thin layer of skin, Priscilla was bleeding internally—her organs just inches from spilling out. If not for one vigilant shelter employee who refused to ignore a small red flag, Priscilla would have lost her life. Thankfully, they contacted rescuers of One by One Animal Advocates, who stepped in and rushed her to the hospital where she underwent life-saving surgery. And against all odds—and despite all the abuse her body had endured—Priscilla pulled through, her spirit refusing to quit. Today, she’s in foster care, still fragile but slowly recovering. Every soft bed, every gentle pat, every kind word is a brand-new experience. Her future is no longer defined by suffering; it’s ripe with the promise of care, safety, and respect. In fact, just a day after surgery Priscilla's appetite started to return—she even tried a cuddly bone in foster care. But this is just the tip of this girl's recovery iceberg: there’s a long road ahead, both physically and emotionally. Priscilla deserves to heal and finally experience the love and safety she’s never known. Please help by donating today to support the costs of Priscilla's life-saving surgery and care. Tiny Kitten Desperately Needs Help Battling Megaesophagus

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Miss Grey has faced more challenges in her short life than most could imagine. Rescued from a heartbreaking hoarder’s property in West Virginia, she was just one of many cats and kittens struggling to survive in unspeakable conditions. The house was falling apart with missing deck boards and an infestation of giant spiders. There were abandoned cars and trash strewn everywhere. The cats were living off rusty trays filled with stale kibble. One by One Animal Advocates was doing their best to aid the cats on this property. They saw Miss Grey and her three siblings in a box, so young they still needed to be bottle fed. The rescue had absolutely nowhere to take them, but knew they couldn’t leave these incredibly susceptible, vulnerable kittens there as the cat colony was sick and dying. Safe and under their care, Miss Grey was the most enthusiastic eater but was vomiting up food consistently and only half the size of her siblings. They took her to the vet for an evaluation where she was diagnosed with generalized megaesophagus, warranting critical need for specialized care. This condition, likely congenital, causes her esophagus to function improperly, making it difficult for her to eat. She requires meals prepared as slurry and must eat in an upright position to allow gravity to help her digestion. Miss Grey has already undergone vet evaluations and X-rays, and while her condition cannot be cured, it can be managed with ongoing care. Despite her challenges, she is a sweet and resilient soul. She needs high-quality food, a specialized feeding chair, and regular follow-ups to monitor her progress. We cannot do this without your help. Please consider donating to help support Miss Grey’s medical needs, supplies, and care.

Maisie

Maisie is a 3 year old Mix-Breed in Huntington, WV, who needs $1,200 for GI Cancer.

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

* One By One Animal Advocates * Help save a precious cat in need! Three weeks ago, workers at a found a skinny cat with a big belly living in their parking lot. They think Maisie may have been pregnant and were worried for her safety under the donation dumpster. We immediately stepped in to take her to the vet where they were alarmed by her yellow coloring and pale gums. Through further diagnostics, we learned that Maisie is fighting for her against a dangerous condition called IMHA. Her body is attacking its own red blood cells, leaving her weak and struggling to breathe. She was also found to be anemic, and her liver values were elevated. She was immediately started on cyclosporine and prednisolone. Fluid was trained from her abdomen but not conclusive, neither was an ultrasound. Without immediate treatment, she may not survive. Maisie needed further diagnostics and blood work over a few weeks. The recent ultrasound results paint a grim picture, hinting at possible GI cancer. It's a gut-wrenching realization that this beloved feline may be facing an uphill battle against a deadly disease. Over the course of the three weeks, we as an organization, the vet staff, and especially her foster have fallen in love with her and are committed to helping her. We won't give up on her! We'll continue to fight alongside her, hoping for a miracle. She has survived being in a busy parking lot with a deadly disease, seems to have beaten IMHA, and now needs to battle liver failure and possible GI cancer. She has shown a willingness to fight, and we want to give her the means to do so. Maisie is so loving and constantly rubs against her foster, sleeps with the dog, makes biscuits in the foster’s lap. She is grateful for attention and care, and we can’t stop now.

Camellia

Camellia is a 1 year old American Pit Bull Terrier in Huntington, WV, who needs $2,000 for Orthopedic Surgery.

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

* One by One Animal Advocates * Camellia was left all alone on a desolate, windy road. She had a noticeable injury, yet she remained faithful, waiting for her humans to come back. The love and loyalty in her eyes cut through the sadness of being abandoned with just a small bit of food. It's heart wrenching to think how someone could leave such a loyal companion behind. The level of love and loyalty Camellia had for her owner and their obvious disregard for her breaks our hearts. The shelter was no place for an injured dog, so ACC has graciously boarded her. XRYs showed her hip was out of socket so she had a closed reduction of her hip and a specialty sling applied. This was the best option but, unfortunately, it was not enough to keep her leg in place. She needs to have another orthopedic surgery - a femoral head ostectomy - to fix her leg. Camellia was abandoned by the people who should have loved and protected her; to them, she was worthless. We need to raise $3000 to cover two different orthopedic surgeries, her vetting, and spay. Your donation today is a statement that Camellia’s life is valued. She means something to us, and we want to help her heal so she can find a family who will cherish her. Thank you for your help!

Frances is a 12 year old Mix-Breed in Huntington, WV, who needs $1,300 for Senior dog with fractured leg.

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

One by One Animal Advocates A silver face peeks out from behind a rusted cage suggesting a dog who has seen a lot in her lifetime. We don’t know her back story, but we know she is in a rural KY shelter with an obvious injury to her front leg. Frances is unable to bear weight on her front leg, and gingerly holds it up as she tries to hobble along. An appointment has been arranged for her evaluation, diagnostic XRYs, and pain medicine. We have no idea the cause of injury, when it occurred, or what she will need. Through further diagnostics, it was discovered that the fracture occurred right at the joint and long enough ago that it has started to calcify. All this time she has been walking on a broken leg that the vet said is still causing her pain. Because of the location and age of injury, the only solution is amputation. Everyone who has interacted with her has commented how loving she is. We are determined to get her the veterinary care to feel happy and healthy in her golden years. Please donate today to help this sweet senior. Thank you!

Black Buddy

Black Buddy is a 2 year old American Shorthair in Huntington, WV, who needs $1,498 for Emergency dental and FIV positive.

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Black Buddy is a community cat who was previously neutered and ear-tipped through TNR. He roamed a neighborhood and one of the caregivers reached out when he showed up with a swollen face, an open mouth that he was unable to close, and drooling excessively. He had lost weight because he could not eat, and his appearance was more ragged than usual because he could not groom himself. Sadly he had been that way for a while, but no one could afford vet care for a cat that “wasn’t theirs” until finally his condition worsened to not being able to eat or close his mouth. At that point, one of the caregivers reached out for help. We got him an emergency appointment at PAC where they determined he had severe stomatitis and severe dental disease. They suspect he is middle-aged, but difficult to tell because his teeth were in such poor condition. He needs blood work and a combo test before dental. Turns out he is FIV+ which will impede his healing. Because of his FIV status he should not live outside unattended around other cats and none of the neighbors were willing to take him in. Black Buddy´s teeth are so bad that he needs emergency surgery as soon as possible. This was unexpected but an emergency! The good news is this street cat will no longer have to fend for himself or find shelter in bad weather.

Should we require them to surrender? Should she go to the overcrowded shelter? Should they consider financial euthanasia? No. No. No. Seeing the bond between the elderly couple and Ladybug, the vet techs reached out to see if we could help, so now we turn to you. We want to help. Iris has suffered unknown horrors No one knows the suffering Iris has endured. Her body bears so many injuries in various states of healing it is difficult to even guess. Dragged by a car is our first impression. Her face has the worst injuries with various layers of skin removed, some pieces blackened and necrotic, leaving exposed raw tissue behind. BRUTALLY SHOT, WOLFIE’S BODY IS RIDDLED WITH BUCKSHOT The Lawrence Shelter reached out to us asking for assistance with Wolfie, thought to be the victim of a vicious coyote attack. He had multiple wounds, bleeding, swollen, and unable to bear weight on his back leg. We rushed him to Proctorville Animal Clinic where we learned the cause was more violent than we could have imagined; XRY’s revealed his entire back flank, leg, scrotum, and tail are filled with buckshot. Wolfie was the victim of an intentional act of violence meant to inflict immense pain. As shelter workers, vet staff, and rescuers, we too often see signs of neglect or cruelty. We are conditioned to put that aside focusing on medical care and a brighter future, but seeing Wolfie in this state reduced us all to tears. We cannot fathom in any part of of our hearts or souls how someone could be this sinister and cruel. Despite his tremendous pain, Wolfie has only offered a tail wag. Wolfie is Erlicchea, Lyme, and anasplasmosis positive and has multiple entry wounds. His biggest risk is infection and the biggest obstacle is pain control. He requires intensive hospitalization, IV fluids, IV pain meds, IV antibiotics and, although his back leg does not appear to be broken, it will need to be monitored. Realizing the urgency of the situation, the shelter reached out for help. Unfortunately, they didn't have enough funds to provide Athena with the medical attention she desperately needed. It was clear that something serious was going on inside her tiny body. One By One Animal Advocates couldn't bear to see Athena suffer and stepped in to get her emergency veterinary care.
